being both a bretta and zote fan is so so painful actually ppl will always find some way to make sure they never interact again or use the latter to (seriously) demonize zote for stuff he never did while also mischaracterising bretta and i 💥👊💥🥊👊🤜🤛💥🤜👊🤜💥🤜💥🥊 🤜👊👊👊🤜💥 im not good at putting into words why this is frustrating
either make them divorced mortal enemies or reluctant friends who actually enjoy eachother's company either of those are funnier but why make up stuff that didnt happen and then pretend its canon and the reason why they should never talk again..... thats so boring
i was gonna leave this in the tags but no i wanna talk
i know im complaining here but its honestly not an issue i see a-lot like i do see them being enemies or friends in fancontent and to the ppl who do that ily very much. its always cool. and people like my dynamic too and when they let me know it makes me rlly happy lol
but i feel like people need to understand that not every situation is good or bad sometimes they are just. situations. like bretta and zote
and i still feel like there's this general misunderstanding about zote that needs to be cleared up which is that he's not actually.... a liar lol. or i mean the only person he lies to is himself and he's not pretending to be a knight he really BELIEVES he's a knight. don quixote coded like he rlly believes he killed the vengefly king and won the colosseum tournament and whatever. all confirmed by his dreamnail dialogue like it makes it REALLY CLEAR that he believes what hes saying. he's actually having delusions thats why most people in hollow knight choose to help him out its why he cant process life threatening situations. he's still annoying just because of his general personality but NOT because of his delusions. (i'd say something profound about how usefulness ties to worth in most people's subconscious and its rooted in ableism and its why zote hate is so loud and normalized but i dont know how to) basically he is not out here 'manipulating' anyone wtf
bretta's delusional too btw the game literally calls her out (gpz godhome description i think). personally i like that canon decided these two should meet and the result was this awfully tough dreamgod that u can fight 10x that's hilarious to me. if a fan made this up and it never happened in canon i would be like 'holy shit this should be a dlc this WOULD happen' because these two are just like that
also people seriously forget that bretta didnt just leave because of zote she left because of ghost too. girl just had enough of short knights ok she was done with both of them if you bring her back to town she's not suddenly gonna realize ghost is heroic and cool and be apologetic and want them back and zote's mad and jealous. <- this out here is mischaracterising ALL 3 of them its so juvenile what.... and i just dont think she'd care that much about either of them, a lot like how zote barely gives a shit about the infection or never realizes she left, they both have tunnel vision these two are the same do you see it
also tell me he was lying when he called ghost a beast because they are thats all they've been striving for this is a compliment to them i know it
this isnt reallyyy a rant. its a personal grievance because i like them both so i care about their portrayal and interactions and i like it when they aren't lonely. but also they're really light-hearted characters so why not just treat them like that....they go through shit and then they move on easily and go through it all over again. its been 7 years can we cut them a break. i dont wanna see anymore mischaracterising unless its really funny

Hey there hope you are doing fine it is occurred to me that you are a huge lov Stan if it is not too much to ask could you give me a retrospective on your view of the lov and your opinion on them as they have grown and evolved and then your current opinion on where deku vs shiggy is headed thx.
I'm honored to be considered an LOV stan. Anyway, from the top:
Magne - Actually? Really enjoyed her for the time she was there. I think it would have been neat if her story tied into Aizawa, Hawks, or Nagant's somehow (meaning that they'd pursued her at one time or had been doing research on her specifically for a job - nothing super deep) to give her a little more focus and make the MHA cast seem more related and compact. I would have even liked her to live a little longer so she could do more LOV hijinks and show us more of that "big sis" title. I know some people don't like Magne or found it to be in bad taste that she died, but I don't feel it was a choice made in spite and I didn't have a problem with it, personally.
Kurogiri - Dark secret time: I actually do not really care about Kurogiri as Shigaraki's "caretaker" without the infusion of ambiguous Shirakumo energy and heart. I'm not a big "found family" person and I was never super into the takes of the major LOV fandom regarding this topic. Anyway, Kurogiri may or may not ever be exactly as he was as Shirakumo, but the more Shirakumo's presence is felt (even if he fights it and is like, "nooo I am loyal to Shigaraki! I don't care about these Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada people!" because even then, it's still kinda the Shirakumo-heart-of-a-hero-loyal-to-his-friends OS running the show), the more I like him. I'm super stoked with the straightforward trope choices HK made for this character.
Shuichi Iguchi/Spinner - Spinner is so cute. I think Spinner is so, so cute and pathetic and sweet and wanting. God, he'll follow anything if he thinks it might make a difference. He is ready to lay down everything for Shigaraki even though he does not really understand him. He is so desperate to be a part of something, his heart is honestly in the right place when it comes to the individual members of the LOV, but every choice he makes or moment of self-doubt he has makes things worse. His heart is pure and every choice he makes takes him farther and farther from what he really wants. Please save Spinner. Someone, please save Spinner. Please love Spinner and help him do and want things independently of others and by his own direction and efforts. It can start small like getting him to grow and care for his own vegetables before he figures out what it is he'd really like to do or be.
Atsuhiro Sako/Mr. Compress - He kinda left it all on the floor when his moment came, so I don't have much to say besides I like him and of course he stole my heart when he asked me, the reader, to listen to his backstory before he bled out from ripping a hole in his own ass. In some ways, I like this a lot given that BNHA is a story-within-a-story, but in other ways I feel like this could have been more elegantly handled. I'm glad he lived and I'm excited to see him do more things outside of prison. He doesn't need to be in prison. That's just my opinion, though.
Jin Bubaigawara/Twice - Fantastic. Twice was always cute in that pesky-annoying way of any Deadpool Expy, but I think he's even cuter and softer of heart than Wade Wilson. I love how straightforwardly his backstory is told once we're allowed to see it, and I love - and hate - that his last thoughts were that Hawks had no right to pity/judge him as lucky or unlucky. His final "curse" to Hawks is powerful to me, particularly since it shows that, despite everything, Jin had people who actually knew him for who he was and liked him for it. At least, he had Toga. There's really a lot I could say about the Jin-and-Hawks situation, including how Jin's rejection of Hawks' conditions to let him live were also a rejection of Hawks and his choices, but I think those are the highlights. I really like that he got less goofy as we got to know him, but was never NOT goofy.
Himiko Toga - Dabi is a close second, but I think Toga is my favorite of the LOV. Hers is a classic female villain trope - crazy, jealous, horny, pansexual vampire blood-witch - but the story takes her completely seriously and asks what the FUCK is wrong with the situation of the world in order for her story to turn out like this. She's a classic, but better and with a human heart. So like, the thing about Toga is that she and her behavior doesn't really change - it's only the context that does as more is revealed about her. Also, her cutesy-yandere antics combined with Twice manages to actually make a funny pair rather than an annoying one. I mean, yeah, they're annoying, but it's in a charming way. If Ochako breaks her heart I'll fucking enter that manga myself and kill her. But Ochako won't do that because Ochako understands what she is doing.
Toya/Dabi - I am a big!!! Fan!!! Of Toya's dramatic ass! Pathetic! Pathetic! Pathetic! Any time I think I'm throwing a tantrum and being a spoiled brat, I think of Dabi and realize I've not yet hit rock bottom. From basically his intro, it was obvious he was a Todoroki and even more delicious that nobody in-story (not Aizawa, not Shoto, not Enji, not Hawks, not nobody) could figure it out even when he was soooooo desperate for them to figure it out and then got to reveal it! On TV! Oh, the drama! The spectacle! (Miss me with the "oooooooh it's not confiiiiiiirmed Dabi is a Todoroki" stuff, 'cause, c'mon you guys: this is the over-the-top-dramatic-irony manga.) That said, the tantrum is warranted - the thing he honestly needs is attention and acknowledgement as well as continued support. Dabi is my favorite Daddy Issues character. Cannot wait to see what his life looks like after his tantrum's over - which I think will happen. He's still alive in the manga and the Todorokis still have a long way to go even if he does kick the bucket by the end (he won't, though his lifespan might be reduced or something. There's gotta be blowback for becoming a charcoal briquette twice.)
Tenko Shimura/Tomura Shigaraki - I actually didn't give two hoots about him until we got the confirmed insight that he's a little boy in a 23-year-old body. I actually find Shigaraki to be the most boring of the LOV, but a lot of interesting things happen to him and he does a lot of interesting internal repression and exploration even with his limited understanding and context for his situation. I enjoy that his "enlightenment" is an artificial one that encourages destruction but opposes not only the status quo but any future creation. He's change and chaos, but only until the moment he succeeds, because then his destruction will be the stagnant status quo. Right now, he's got the otherworldly white hair like a Japanese demon or half-divine being and unlike Toya (who is totally a vengeful spirit and fire demon straight from hell) he's kinda suggesting a western angel, too. Must be cool to be the most significant and "perfect" white-haired anime boy in a series, huh. That's a lot of power, Sephiroth.
He's a great dragon-and-damsel rolled into one, and Izuku is going to save him with some help. It's as straightforward as that. After that, Tenko will probably want to become the definition of a true hero - not a Hero (as in the in-universe job), but someone proud of the legacy his grandmother and Toshinori tried to uphold while still desiring improvements. His destruction may be channeled into a real weapon of justice meant to meaningfully destroy the corrupt but with the goal to then make right what had been wronged. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he undergoes another quirk evolution and is able to create stuff a la Fullmetal Alchemist using the stuff he destroys/using the same stuff he would have otherwise destroyed. If so, it might be more apt to call his quirk something like "Flourish"/"Growth" or even "Improve"/"Surpass" rather than "Decay". The one thing I think Shigaraki can never really accept (though he will bide his time if needed) is stasis. Eventually, I think he'll become another intended successor of All Might, though frankly anyone in the series can and should earn that title at this point.

Random ramble, but I love both being in the hollow knight fandom and also the countryhuman fandom, cuz its such a shock from needing to defend liking just one ship, to basically being part on the head and just getting a 'yeah'.
Like I get both fandoms definitely have their problems, but it's such a shock to go from getting literally bullied for being in one to than being welcomed and treated nicely and NOT getting absolutely shat on.
Idek, no ones probably gonna even see this, but yeah. I'm in the countryhuman fandom, and I love it. And just to be specific, no I dont ship weird ships, I just like anthropomorphic things. Like bugs... and countries...
Welp! That's all! Also ig heres a sillie picture of the one and only US of A and this is going to definitely be the only post on where I mention countryhumans. And if you used to be in the ch fandom, and got ptsd from this post. I'm so sorry. If you're in the hk fandom, hello! Silly bugs am I right? Haha-
Tumblr media
I've been in the ch fandom for nearly 5 years, I dont think I can leave. I keep getting dragged back, please help

I honestly really, really love how you portrey FPK in your AU! I never saw PK in game as evil or villainous or anything like that. Hallownest seemed to prosper before his altercation with Radiance. Hallownest was incredibly advanced and probably MUCH bigger than the game even showed. He did seem to push other gods out of his kingdom, which caused Radiance to be forgotten and lead to the fall of the kingdom, but there were no hints anywhere around Hallownest that he was evil. And the music that plays in the White Palace is beautiful and sad and feels so full of regrets. It is not a track fitting the caricature folks have made his concept into. I wanted more about Hallownest and what it was before, and more about PK and who he was as a king. That is why my PK, who grew into my OC Kavuta, had an ego and was vain, but was far from evil and had many regrets over the entire situation and how he was forced to handle it.
I admit I may be a little guilty of... woobifying him, I think is the word. Maybe even very guilty. Some people may not like that, which is fine, but to me FPK is a very relatable character (sure I wrote him that way but, you know what I mean) so it's really hard for me not to feel bad for him. Especially with everything he's gone through in the AU backstory. But I think it explains a lot about him and his actions.
And yeah, the game definitely portrays PK in a very tragic light. I don't think there's a character in the game who outright despises him. Well, except for The Radiance I guess, but we never really get to know her thoughts, maybe her anger was directed at everyone, not him specifically. That's another thing that I have a bit of trouble understanding about a lot of the most common fanon. For example, Hornet hating PK, it's so widespread you'd think there was something pointing towards it in the game, but I don't think she even mentions him at any point, which sure, may suggest they weren't close, but that's just one of many possible interpretations. I don't know, I just sometimes feel like I'm missing something, even though I know I am not.
But yeah, to return to what you said. There is a lot in the game to suggest that he was never meant to be evil, so it's frustrating how often people paint him as the villain of the story. I don't think there is one, even The Radiance is a complex character you can sympathize with to some extent. I guess it's just an inevitable part of the fandom and the fanon they propagate, that they'll latch onto details and make that the only trait of a given character, even if said detail misrepresents the character or is completely made up. It gets quite frustrating but there's nothing to be done, unfortunately.
And I wouldn't even have a problem with people interpreting a character one way or another if they took it as just that - an interpretation, not something universal. But no, PK being a buzzsaw obsessed child murderer is so common in the general fandom that new people who get into the game assume that's just what he is, even if he's so much more complex in the game. It's a shame, really. Also, I'm not saying it's bad to dislike PK. No, not at all, that is entirely subjective, he did do terrible things after all. But when I see someone make up reasons to hate him and then spread that like it's the objective fact from the game? Yeah that's just. That's not it. I don't get that.
I said it before but this is the main reason why I don't really interact with the fandom these days. Or any fandom for that matter. It's too frustrating, and I'd rather focus on my AU since I genuinely do love it, instead of having other people sour HK for me over dumb things I can't change haha

HK really does hate Shouto doesn't he?
I really don't think he does. I think he may enjoy drawing other characters more - I read that he said in an interview that Shouto is one of the hardest characters to get the expressions right for - but I don't get the feeling he dislikes him.
If anything, he came up with a really cool, handsome shonen rival-type character and made him into an awkward sweetheart bestie, who is legit one of the funniest people in the whole manga.
He plays with the design a lot and puts him into all kinds of Shouto-verses, from Shoutocat and Todomoon. He just has some of the cutest extra designs
He was basically the MC of one of the best arcs in the manga and his family arc is the second most prominent plot in the manga.
He gets in almost every arc something to do (which is not at all true for many characters that fandom consistently thinks are being "better treated" than Shouto.)
Yeah, he puts him through quite a lot of hardships and gives him heartbreaking L-s, but he emerges better every time for it - I think honestly writers torture the characters they like more, because it gives them interesting things to do
And of course, he really still needs to make sure he sticks the landing for Shouto in the endgame - but the way Dabi vs Shouto is going right, I feel like he will. He's been handling the Todo-plot with a lot of care so far.
HK has a hard time generally to distribute attention well among his massive cast and give everyone the spotlight they deserve - but that's not a Shouto-specific problem.

About the Boueibu iceberg
@delphoxqueen asked me to explain about my list for the iceberg so here it is. I might update this from time to time with links and stuff if I stumble across the original posts. This is all from what I know so feel free to add new info. Also, spoiler warning for RobiHachi and the Boueibu manga and novels. (This is like a masterpost it’s very long)
1. There’s a theory in tumblr about which decade the series is set in, using data like the friday the 13th calendar in s2 ep11. In HK we got a second number for when the next monthly Pretty Boy Contest was happening and using the one from Love it was theorized that around a decade had passed since then, which ended up being true.
2. The stage play had a few original songs and characters exclusive to it so unless you watched the full performance, you probably weren’t able to witness all of them. One of the characters is called “Robato Deniro”, as romanized in the stage play booklet I own.
3. The nurse and the cafeteria staff from the s1 mobile game appear in the background in around the first half of s2 ep3.
4. S2 had an unfinished manga that was only available online and was never released on physical format; it was centered around the defense club and sometimes the conquest club and Beppu brothers. All that’s left from what I know are the scans linked on magicalgirlsandcerulean’s blog.
5. This isn’t that obscure because it’s talked about in the anime, but I’m mentioning it because I think many people dropped it before the ova, where right at the beginning it is revealed that the alien that resucitated Mr. Tawarayama twice was, as described by Io, a “mulberry-colored naked mole rat-looking thing”, and was nicknamed “Moley-san” by Yumoto. At least in the anime, we had never heard before of who this was and it never appeared on screen nor was mentioned again.
6. In HK ep8, Karurusu promises the knights to grant a wish if they show him how earthlings spend summer. Kyoutarou reveals at the end of the episode that he wished that summer lasted one more day so he could spend it doing nothing, which prompts Ichiro to theorize that it’s the 32nd of august, and the next day is the second 1st of september.
7. The stage play was was held from march 10th to 13rd, of which the latter is Ryuu’s birthday. There’s an additional recording of a small celebration with cake focused on Ryuu and Io.
8. Atsushi mentions his older sister in the flashback at the beginning of s1 ep4, but she never appears or is mentioned again.
9. There’s a few posts on tumblr theorizing about what happened to the Hakone parents since Yumoto only says in s2 ep3 that according to Gora, “they are busy with their hot springs tour”. En mentions that it’s a bit suspicious, but it’s all the information we have from the anime. Posts talk about the parents perhaps passing away from an accident or an illness, thus the reason why Gora was so worried about Yumoto’s cold in s1 ep10, but from another post I think it’s implied in the second novel that they actually left their home when Yumoto was still a toddler.
10. It’s no secret that the surnames of the characters are all real onsens in Japan that even the seiyuus have visited, but apparently the Arima onsen has two different kinds of water, “kinsen (gold hot spring)” and “ginsen (silver hot spring)”, with different properties each, and the Kusatsu onsen water also has certain properties, both that were used to build the characters. Additionally, Ryuu’s favorite food are Sato Nishiki cherries, which are grown in the same prefecture, Yamagata, as his onsen, Zaou.
11. The press club lose relevance after s1, with only Kinosaki and Tazawa reappearing briefly in s2 ep2 to interview the Beppu twins after they arrive at the school. Tazawa doesn’t even have lines. Hireashi is mentioned by Zundar in ep11.
12. What the heck
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13. Exclusively in the manga we see that Arima met Kinshiro and Atsushi when they were little and they were good friends, but when they met again as adults, Kinshiro seemingly didn’t remember Arima. Atsushi, however, stated that Kinshiro’s talent is remembering people’s faces and names, so Arima wonders if he’s just trying to distance himself from him. He also explains to Akoya that he follows Kinshiro and obeys him because as a child, he was fascinated by his radiant smile. This is never talked about in the anime.
14. Like the previous point, the anime never shows Akoya being bullied, at most just a slight dislike of his full name, but the manga shows that he was made fun of for it and how he actually hates his surname, to the point of introducing himself formally to the president and vicepresident of the student council as “Holy Angel Akoya”.
15, 16, 17, 19. Batonama lives were the livestreams done through the franchise by the defense club seiyuus on youtube and niconico. They’re all on youtube, without any kind of translation.
Love-ko is a girl with a shell bikini drawn on a piece of cardboard that was used as a girlfriend in the Batonama Love! lives, acted by the seiyuus themselves.
RobiHachi has one episode full of official Boueibu artwork and a parody of the series too, a Love-ko doll appears, and Wombat appears as well, named “The Don”. It received an english dub, so for a bit, people were excited that Wombat was going to speak in english too. Also, various mechas appear in both Boueibu and RobiHachi.
18. The director of Fairy Ranmaru (Masakazu Hishida if I’m not wrong) revealed in an interview that he was inspired by Boueibu and aimed to make a show like that.
20, 21. The website super-groupies.com has results for defense and conquest club lingerie sets, dc and VEPPer tote bags, the Beppus’ scarf rings, dc bath sets and the pumps magicalgirlsandcerulean mentioned. I’ve found the s1 Loveracelets and Caerula Adamas’ ring on different sites, the True Loveracelets on TheChara’s twitter and the Happybraces (apparently called “Hapibure”) on broccoli.co.jp but I’m not sure where exactly they were all announced and sold, so I’ll just drop that.
22, 33. Boueibu was originally pretty much a copy of Sailor Moon, I think they were all going to be called “Lackluster Moon” and that stuff and be literally Sailor Moon genderbent. They were all different from color palettes to physical features (except Yumoto’s), and Ryuu was a shota, even smaller than Yumoto. Their names were also very reminiscent of the five Sailor Senshis’. Even if they made it more original, the show is still clearly inspired by Sailor Moon (just look at Caerula Adamas lol) and Pretty Cure. It has also referenced, very blatantly, animes like Doraemon, Detective Conan, Aikatsu and even Vocaloid, when Kyoutarou tries to guess what Karurusu is saying with ““Just Google It, Asshole”?” in ep1.
23. Wombat’s real name and the name of his planet sound like gibberish to the earthlings and ends up being named after the Earth animal, but Zundar, Dadacha, Karurusu and Furanui all have original names. And I think Hireashi means “goldfish”?
24. If you google “zundar technology”, it’s actually a company in Shanghai, China. Aren’t Wombat and Zundar always talking about “advanced alien technology”?
25. Zundar and Dadacha are siblings, so are Karurusu and Furanui, and so are their father King Kamopapa and their uncle minister Wao, but neither are the same species and, except the first two, not even the same color. But they are supposedly related because they share birthmarks or something like that...
26. Everyone who’s in this fandom knows about the pixel blur and voice pitch censor from s1, but I’ve added it anyway because it’s so rare for mahou shoujo and shounen animes to explain why the heroes aren’t recognized when transformed.
27. A good while of s2 ep11 is spent discussing Zundar’s ex-wife and his problems to give child support. Naturally, he gets mad at this.
28. “Money doesn’t betray” (s1 ep6) and “The despair hidden behind your smile that comes from not being understood” (s3 ep11) are sentences that came out of nowhere and implied that the people they were said by (Io) or about (Taiju) respectively had some kind of angst going on but were never explained at all. They’re famous for just that.
29. The Beppu twins’ house in Andromeda shown in flashbacks had strange green circles that apparently are from another anime I don’t know but honestly I didn’t get it very well... It was revealed on a tweet from Takamatsu.
30. Alien language mostly appeared in s2 due to the many flashbacks of Aki and Haru in Andromeda, but in Boueibu s1, it appears on the Zundar Needle before it is shot on the human. It appears a lot through RobiHachi as well, due to being a story about travelling through space. There might be an alphabetical chart somewhere, but I can’t assure it exists, I might even have dreamed it.
31. Hikaru Midorikawa as the melon monster, Kousuke Toriumi as the bishounen monster, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the kotatsu and panda monsters and Takuya Eguchi as the remote controller monster in s1 and 2, before going on to voice the main cast in HK. Keisuke Koumoto voiced Hatchi Kita in RobiHachi as well as Akihiko in Boueibu, and the characters look similar.
A new addition is that so far Boueibu is the only anime I’ve seen where children weren’t voiced by female seiyuus, but by actual children. Personally, it’s charming and makes it so much more realistic, specifically since no women appear in the franchise at all either (not counting Protag-chan in the game).
32. Speaking of seiyuus, Can I Destroy The Earth? had a dub shown in ep11/12 (?) that made Gora the villain that wanted Earth to stay the same and not progress, against the monsters that supposedly wanted to bring good things to earthlings. Aki and Haru quickly dismissed this dub as fake. (I made a mistake in the title in the previous post btw)
34. As seen in the glossary in the Boueibu Mook (I think, but might not be the mook), Caerula Adamas’ speeches are based on an old japanese detergent commercial that went “Gold, silver, pearl, gift”.
35. In the manga there’s a short parody of the first chapter of Sailor Moon with “Pretty Boy Guardian Gakuran Akoya”. The conquest club manga was released before the anime, so I remember reading somewhere that a fake website appeared for the Gakuran Akoya manga, before turning into the conquest club manga website in the day of its release.
36. Cgi was used a few times in the anime: s2 ep10 for a short sequence of the defense club on a rollercoaster and the carousel monster, ep11 for a cenital shot of the Battle Lovers singing, and HK ep12 for the Honyalaland soldiers and the Wao mecha.
37. The toothbrush incident in s1 ep7. (It’s definitely well-known but it’s so weird lol)
38. “We hope we can see each other again someday!” Something along those lines was the last text to appear in the last episode of HK, implying a s2. We all know how that went.

Any tips on how to grow your own blog by chance?
Aah man I've written a response to this kind of question many times but I always delete it because I'm afraid of coming off as self centered or arrogant, but I definitely have some tips on what works and doesn't work (on tumblr.)
I will say that I never believed I would get to the "Big Fandom Artist" stage. I've seen people drop my name in conversations or descriptions and just assume other people know who I am and that's still incredibly wild to me. I never really pushed to get a big blog it really just happened.
But! I do have rules and personal guidelines that might help if you are thinking of actively building your blog!
1: Keep personal information and vent posts to a minimum
It should go without saying that its not a good thing for your personal information to be on the internet. Once its out there its near impossible to erase. This is for your own safety.
Vent posts give out more information than you might think, but also some people who are following you may be going through difficult times themselves. I go on the internet to get away from my stressors and problems and i've specifically catered my dashboard to reflect my desires. I have no doubt others are the same.
I've unfollowed mutuals because they vented too frequently. I enjoyed what they made! But it stressed me out to read their vent posts because I couldn't help. I realized it was taking a toll on my mental health and I made the tough decision to unfollow.
It is very tempting to vagueblog because its nice getting out all the angry feelings, but a blog with thousands of people following it is not the place to do it.
2: Shitpost vs Quality Foley
I could go into a massive essay on this alone (ive even written out an outline already) but i'll keep it as brief as I can.
Throughout my time on Tumblr I’ve seen a number of posts of artists complaining about the lack of notes on their serious work compared to the abundance of notes on their shitposts.
This is because Tumblr IS a place of shitposts. It's like squeezing a clown nose and expecting it not to honk.
However! It's more complicated than that and i've broken it up into four parts organized by importance.
A. Relevance/Meta: Is it something that people are already familiar with? Is it something that's currently going on?
People want to enjoy things they're already familiar with. For example, people getting into Hollow Knight are more likely to follow a blog that posts HK content regularly over a HK blog that posted a picture of Grimm once and then is full of original content. It's not that people don't like your original stuff, its just not what they're looking for.
If you like striking while the iron is hot, meta jokes are the way to go. Making references to games like Among Us during the height of its popularity for example would get you lots of notes.
B. Hilarity
Is it funny? Does it subvert expectations?
Shitposts will always be more popular than a well drawn post. People like to laugh and share things that laugh. A cool, well drawn post is more often than not met with a "hm, cool. scrolls down."
This is a polished comic I made 10 months ago. I'm very proud of it and i'm pleased with the amount of attention it got. It took me 2 days to finish.
This is a shitpost I made 3 years ago that I still haven't been able to top. It took me 30 minutes to make.
That's not to say a well drawn post can get popular! It's just that people enjoy a good laugh over something shiny. This is a factor of knowing your audience. Some things land better than others and you'll be better off if you just roll with what you get.
I will say tho I appreciate the people who reblog my oc posts 200x more than people who reblog my shitposts and fanart. Those are quality followers and you must cherish them.
C. Appeal
Is it cute? Is it fluffy? Is the design easy to understand? Does it make people emotional? Is it angsty? Is it relatable?
People like cute shit. People like things that make them hurt (albeit not too much). People like things that they can see themselves in.
D. Skill
There is some merit in being good at what you do. People do like funny things more than shiny things, but shiny things are cool too.
If you post things that are funny? You're normal horoscopes.
If you post things that are well drawn? (its really telling that I can't think of someone right off the top of my head)
If you post things that are funny AND well drawn? Well then you're iguanamouth
3: Know your boundaries.
There's a difference between being understanding/tagging things correctly and catering to people who want you to be someone else.
I know that many people get upset with others who gender the vessels in Hollow Knight. While it doesn't bother me, I can recognize the misgendering of vessels as a source of dysphoria and I tag accordingly.
If someone comes into my inbox and tells me to stop drawing a character because they're "problematic," I'm just going to block them and go about my day.
4: This is your blog, its your rules.
I'm apologetically myself on my blog. I post what I want and what inspires me. The reason why I have so many AUs is because its my blog and I like AUs. If a large portion of the fandom doesn't like my AUs, its their loss, I make great AUs.
In fact, its just a good mindset in general to have. If some people don't like what you make, its not your problem. It makes you happy and it makes hundreds of others happy then continue to do what you do. It's impossible to have a large following and not have someone who dislikes you purely out of spite.
Make stuff for yourself, not because you want numbers.
5: Don't feed the trolls.
If someone sends you hate, take a picture of it, share it with your friends, laugh, block the person, delete message, move on with your life.
It's really fun to feed the trolls, but feeding trolls attracts more trolls and soon its not fun anymore. Just laugh when you get your first anon hate, maybe frame it in your room, and don't even acknowledge them with a "fuck you."
6: Recognize your position.
This is more advice for when you do get a big blog. You get to a point when you realize you have a portion of your audience who value much more than a regular human being and are willing to take up arms for you.
Do. Not. Weaponize. Your audience.
It's incredibly shitty and can ruin peoples lives.
7: Post Frequency/Schedule
Now this is one I can't do. It's normal for me to become incredibly active for 2 weeks and then end up posting nothing for a month. I don't have the patience to build up a queue of new things.
However! If you have more discipline than me, posting daily or twice a week builds up anticipation for your next post. You're dependable and people have the chance to look forward to seeing something from you on their dash on Friday.
Thats all I can think of so far.
There's no TL;DR you'll miss my important advice within these tips.

Hello! It is I again, back with yet another bit of rambling for Hollow Knight! This one is a bit specific, though, and might tread on some shoes in the fandom if stumbled across, so I wanna preface this by saying that if you do not share my idea, that’s totally valid! I would prefer to not be discussed with over this, and replies will most likely be ignored! As a result of not wanting to seek confrontation, I’m not going to tag it either. This is also something I’ve been sitting on for a while! So it is a bit... lengthy? That said, HK spoilers under the cut!
Honestly, in regards to the Void Civilization, I don't think the Radiance was a colonizer.
It's one thing to say that the big angry moth lady decided in what was likely a combination of having lost some essential part of herself from lack of worship as well as a big grudge-holding that vibe checking the Pale King's perfect, shining kingdom of glory that was meant to last throughout the ages was a good idea. It's another thing to say that the big angry moth lady, ruling over a tribe of pacifistic moths who would have LIKELY reflected their higher being's view, proceeded to entirely devastate a civilization to where traces of them living are pretty much nonexistent.
If such was the case, if she wanted to wipe them so thoroughly off the face of Hallownest to where nothing remained, what about their remnants? And I'm not talking about the remnants of their existence in the Abyss, I'm talking about the statues that litter the entirety of the kingdom. If these were of the Void Civilization's making, wouldn't a god who decides to literally scrub out a thriving civilization- one that might have had no qualms with her, existing underground and leaving her and her tribe be- leave nothing behind? Even then, if Light such as the Old Light can destroy Void if it's empowered, such as vice versa, who's to say there was nothing that was stopping her from going down to the Abyss and eliminating the source of the problem?
And that's if they even existed within the same time frame.
What I believe is more likely is that the Void Civilization itself died out some odd centuries ago before Radiance and her moths came to be. This isn’t something implausible, given that most places settled into are commonly in very habitable regions and thus, in the case of one civilization crumbling, another could be likely to come along centuries later and make their home there without even properly uncovering the remnants of the lost civilization until years down that line. This isn’t to say that I believe Radiance was a pacifistic UWU goody two shoes. She likely had some massive bias towards her own moths and ignored the existence of other bugs at best. We can sort of sum up that she was possible very protective of her moths, which are the two traits that probably really started the whole mess in Hallownest to begin with as a wyrm, a devourer of kingdoms, coming in would have set her off and sent her on the attack if the thought of her being super protective is true. That’s not even mentioning the kingdoms who existed at the same time as Radi not showing more conflict of sorts with her as opposed to PK. (This also would be a good time to point out the ‘radi hiveminded before pk’ likely not being true at all BUT this is a rant about why radi didn’t colonize not why pk is still one of The Worst objectively imo and while the two subjects are similar they are also different) And! If Radiance were to have taken out the Void Civilization, than the moths, who are largely pacifistic, would have been her accomplices, henceforth sharing her views; something that I don’t think PK would have been able to get them out of by simply having them comply with his rule and henceforth assimilating the moth tribe into modern Hallownest culture, dissolving or appropriating what he saw fit but never able to rid them of their core ways. So, with this in mind, when Radiance did break from the moth’s pacifism, it was largely into PK’s rule, with her connection to her tribe, her followers, having essentially been severed except for maybe like, a few who might’ve still remembered her/worshipped in secret and were rapidly dwindling into the ages. This is also not to mention Radiance’s main area of worship/influence, that being Crystal Peak and the Spirit’s Glade (and, by extension, Dirtmouth and the Crossroads), is drastically far from where the void civilization would have been, which can be assumed to be directly in the Abyss or one of the nearby areas.
"But the ANCIENT ENEMY line!"
Void and Light are two opposing forces. They are basically two sides of the same coin, and it's likely instinct for a Light-based being of any kind to want to Vibe Check anything made of Void, as is vice versa! There isn't any need to think super hard into it, it's just how it is. Yin and Yang, Push and Pull, you get the idea. There doesn’t need to be some Deep Lore (™) explaining it when it’s already established that dark and light just are opposite forces. “Then what about the “kill the empty ones” line?” This. This is CUT CONTENT. Meaning that at one point, it would have fit the story they were telling, but ultimately it clashed with something in the game, whether it be story-wise or ideal-wise in the vision they had for it, thus was removed. It happens all the time, and while I love me some cut content opening up new headcanons, it is important to remember to look upon other things existing in the game and to draw perhaps more than just one conclusion from the evidence presented. (This is also to say that different headcanons from mine are- in at least 70-80% of the time- valid. Just because I don’t support something doesn’t mean your take on it is Wrong.)
“But what about what Seer tells us?” Seer. The moth who is elderly, was raised in PK’s time as king, and was most likely kept from knowing things about her own culture and history, if not outright lied to? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think she is the most reliable narrator, and that some things she tells you should be taken with a grain of salt. Not to mention the implication of the moths being grouped into Hallownest unwillingly, with one piece of proof being the PK idol planted in the spirit’s glade likely before it was closed off (if the idol was left there some time before, then why was it left there instead of being picked up and moved?).
TL;DR: Radiance did not colonize, as a lot of evidence proves more towards the void civilization either having existed at the same time, separate from her area of influence, or (more likely) they existed and fell long before Radiance ever came to be in the area.

Dear Yuletide author,
Thank you so much for participating this year and making my small fandom dreams come true. I’m very excited that you’ve been matched with me, and whatever fandom you choose to write from my list will make me happy, so go hog wild! If you would like some more guidance than “go hog wild,” I’ve compiled some thoughts as to what I like and dislike in fics, and specifically for each fandom I’ve requested.
In general: - I’m very much into banter and friendly antagonism. - I’m not particularly interested in reading porn, especially pwp. I’m not against it and if it involves feelings I’ll probably love it, but it isn’t my first craving. - I really like polyamory, open relationships, multi-shipping, what have you. - I love gen and friendship fic. - I love love love found families, so you can never go wrong with those themes. - I prefer non-holiday-themed fic and absolutely DNW kid fic.  - I also strongly prefer non-AUs if that’s at all possible with what you have in mind, since I like the following canons a lot
Letterkenny  (Wayne, Glen, or alternatively Katy/Riley/Jonesy, or just a gen fic about everyone) I love Letterkenny a lot, though I have to admit I’m an intermittent watcher and haven’t seen every single episode. Generally speaking, my favourite thing is when everyone in town has to come together to solve a problem/defeat an enemy/complete a project, and they still hate each other but are loyal to each other above all else, so if you’re thinking of going gen that type of plot will always make me satisfied. I have an unnatural love for Pastor Glen; I find him incredibly endearing and his little (huge) crush on Wayne gives me life. I’m not particularly angling for Wayne/Glen, though if your heart desires I’d love to read that too---what I really, really would like is begrudging friendship where they’re in a situation where Wayne is forced to be nice to Glen or toss him a bone or, oh be still my quivering heart, defend Glen. I’m not against Wayne/Tanis as a background ship, I just wouldn’t be interested in only them as a whole plot. I am very, very interested in Katy in general and her sexually dominant vibes that disturb her brother and intimidate Squirrelly Dan. I will always and forever ship Katy/Riley/Jonesy if you want to toss any of that in, or toss in Riley and Jonesy working out at the gym with their gay married friends. Wayne and the boys hating Jonesy & Riley’s guts but being forced to hang out with them (or even be nice to them!!) because Katy brings them around warms the cockles of my heart. In summary, I think the essence of what I like for this fandom is really just unlikely bonds, unexpected alliances, people pulling together despite having very complicated feelings about each other, and of course lots of banter.
Happy Together (春光乍洩) This is my second favourite Wong Kar Wai film but the one that leaves me most yearning for...something beyond the movie. What I love most about it, besides the achingly beautiful cinematography, is how much gets left unsaid even when you’re trying to say exactly what you mean. This movie means a lot to me as a Hong Konger because it came out at the time of HK’s handover to China--just like how Ho Po-wing and Lai Yiu-fai can’t return back from South America and also can’t return back to when they were in love, there’s no returning back to Hong Kong as it was because it’s already gone. None of this so far is any help for writing a fic, I am so sorry. I just feel a lot of things about this movie. I would absolutely love to read some sort of continuation of what happens after. Does Lai Yiu-fai see Chang again? (Please god let him see Chang again. They don't have to get together, though I do ship them. I ship them just as much platonically, as friends.) Or maybe does he strike up some sort of friendship/relationship with Chang’s parents? Does he see and reconcile with his own dad? My only do not want for this fandom is Lai Yiu-fai and Ho Po-wing getting back together, since to me one of the major thematic points of the film is a sort of forced moving on from something you can never go back to.
Sorted (Sorted Food) (James Currie in particular, but also everyone) Hello, hi, I’m obsessed with James Currie and it’s a problem!!! Sorted is a group of five guys who make food videos; two of them are chefs and three of them are normal. James is a very good chef. I would like literally anything if it involves James in any way, particularly if it touches upon any of the following: his lisp, his quietness, his intense obsession with the processes and techniques of cooking, his lisp, his tendency to keep to himself and make himself small to offset how tall and strong he actually is, his lisp, how he dealt with entering late into a friendship where the other four guys have known each other since they were 11 and were very cliquey with each other, and have I mentioned, his lisp. I am also very soft for Mike, in particular how tender Mike and James are to each other (see here for Mike petting James like a good dog, here for Mike saying not as a joke that he’d like James to bear his children, and here for uhhhhhh just look at it). I think Ben and James have a lovely dynamic as they are the two Serious Chefs so James can kind of relax his usual guard around him, since he doesn’t have to worry about Ben destroying anything. As a result, James can be a needy brat with Ben instead. Barry plays up being endearingly stupid and it makes me feel like everyone is morosexual for him, and Jamie is down to unquestioningly lady-and-the-tramp a pirouline with James so. What I’m saying is. James. OT5, some particular pairing, no pairings and just good mates having top quality bants, going on a sponsored trip to some foodie destination country, goofing off at one of their flats, nearly burning down the studio, I would be happy with any of that! As long as it involves James.
