I just want to vent about my dad on a website I know he doesn't use. (He's a Reddit/Facebook man.)

These are two texts from our D&D group's groupchat. In it, Dad reacts to finding out that WotC hired the literal Pinkertons to intimidate someone who got sold the wrong trading cards by criticizing the guy who the Pinkertons intimidated.

This is typical for my dad. When these tales of corporate misdeeds happen, Dad always defends the corporations. If they are not breaking the law, he takes that as evidence that they're in the right. If they are breaking the law, he tries to downplay the severity of the crime. He's a corporate bootlicker, and I don't think he realizes it.

This bootlicking is a bit ironic, since my dad is a "Don't Tread on Me" libertarian. Well, if you asked he'd say he had disagreements with the Libertarian party, but he's never explained exactly what those disagreements are. Which is actually pretty similar to his relationship with the Republican party; Dad will say he holds Democrats and Republicans in equal disdain, but he's complained long and often about Democrats with their gun control and Obamacare and taxes. By contrast, the worst thing he's said about Donald Trump is that he doesn't protect gun rights.

Now, I don't think Dad actually agrees with the alt-right. He's voiced support for minority rights and stuff, even if it's in a milquetoast "We've basically achieved equality, and also the government shouldn't stop businesses from discriminating because the free market will put them out of business" way. But when he talks about politics, he doesn't complain about conservatives. He complains about liberals.

And he talks about politics a lot. My dad might espouse disinterest in the country's political parties, but he has strong opinions about politics. His political discussions, which he made sure to include me and my brother in, are a big part of why I care about politics as much as I do—and to his credit, he encouraged us to think for ourselves instead of just following his politics. I too was a dumbass libertarian for a while, but when I was presented with new evidence, I could change my mind.

But, well. Having a politically-opinionated dad, while being politically-opinionated in the opposite direction is a bit of a problem. And in case you didn't pick up from the way I described my dad defending WotC and also have not noticed any other political post I've made on this blog, I am firmly opposed to capitalism in general and capitalists fucking over employees (or other individuals who annoy them) in specific. So there's a bit of tension there. And I don't know what to do with it.

So far, I've mostly tried to avoid it. That's successful most of the time, but not all the time. Everything is political; even if my dad wasn't the kind of guy who talks with his kids about the president's health care policy or California gun control, politics would come up sooner or later. The friend in the group chat wasn't trying to be political; he just relayed an interesting news story relevant to the group's shared interests. But corporate malfeasance is a political issue, whether you want it to be or not. Politics are gonna come up.

I guess I could argue with him, point out that WotC's actions are morally bankrupt, no matter how legal they are. Question why making a video about some cards that you bought is grounds for getting goons sent to your house. Hell, maybe I should do that, push back against shitty political ideas. But what would the result of that be? I'd get mad, my dad would get mad, neither of us would change our minds, and it's not like the rest of the group would care.

For now, I guess I'm venting my frustrations on Tumblr. I hope that's a healthy outlet.

(bi man anon) thank you for answering! it's horrible that both of us, and certainly many other bi people, have to go through this treatment just to exist in fandom spaces as ourselves.

you certainly did nothing wrong with the azula post. it was properly tagged and didn't cross tag into actual ships. it's just how the biphobes are. when i was younger, i had once tried to run a blog not engaging in discourse but simply supporting headcanons, and i still constantly got hateful messages and threats for going against 'canon' even though they all but had to go out of their way to find my blog, if i remember right i hadn't even maintagged anything. it's long since deleted by now though, and i never saved any receipts, so take it with a grain of salt i suppose. needless to say, i understand your story and i believe you acted rationally. the one who brought it back up after you de-escalated and left the conversation was incredibly childish and seems to be a reoccurring situation in general with this type of thing.

i do wonder how much of it is tied into other discourses, i most frequently see this kind of behavior with antis. i wouldn't be surprised at all if some proshippers did the same. there's a lot to be said in general about exclusionism and the treatment of bi folk (many gay people wish for us to water ourselves down to nothing more than gay and lesbian, just with a different word. seems to lineup a lot with anti-aro/ace and forcing nonbinary people into binaries ie transmasc or transfem, denying the existence of transneutrality and pressuring them into outing themselves, or the usage of amab and afab in casual discussion rather than medical contexts or other cases where it's actually relevant) a lot of it all seems to circle right back into radfem ideology. unfortunately, a prevalent ideology even in fandom spaces.

thank you, again, for sharing one of your stories. i have never harassed anyone either, over anything, much less headcanons. it seems incredibly common that people will take someone disagreeing with their headcanon as a personal attack. you can say you don't mind a lesbian or gay headcanon, but prefer a bi one, and people will still get mad. it's unfortunate. thankfully, we have stubborn bi people who'll hold their ground even through the harassment and poor treatment. i hope you'll hold tight onto your bi azula headcanon, and every other bi headcanon you have. i'll be doing the same for mine.

Hey, nice to hear from you again! I was honestly more than happy to make that post, and I'm especially glad that my experience and the way I handled these things was validated.. I'm always made to feel like I'm doing something wrong by reacting accordingly to the disrespect, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that either.

I really think that you're absolutely right in some of these other points you brought up. Namely it being a common theme in online spaces now that people are just plain immature and rehash arguments for no reason... but also I think you're onto something about this tying into other types of discourse, and certainly aphobia and enbyphobia as well. These types of discrimination (biphobia, aphobia, enbyphobia) are pretty socially acceptable, sadly, even in queer or majority queer fandom spaces... it sucks. And we're not the only ones who've noticed it either.

You're also 100% right about people in general treating disagreement like a personal attack. You say you have a different headcanon and they act like you ran over their dog -__-

Helpful Hands (LUCIFER X GN!READER)

People always underestimate how much he does for this family, or at least he thinks so. They see mean old Lucifer who only ever bullies and is way too strict. They see the guy who has a patch of gray hair but should be way too young to have it. They see the Avatar of Pride who can’t bear to be defeated for the life of him. Sometimes they see a stuck up asshole who thinks of nothing but himself and occasional torture because he’s viewed as Mr. Sadist. The last part might be mildly true, but only on bad days and only to those who really deserve it. He’s heard it all, from both friends and foes alike, and of course his family. Even Diavolo scolds him at times, which that’s when he’s truly about to snap it because if it weren’t for the Demon Lord he probably wouldn’t be on edge all the time, but more on that later. The point is, though, that most, if not all, of those claims are fault.

People see the surface level. They see what they want to see and they don’t dare to dig deeper. Maybe they fear him, maybe they’re just too warped in the idea that he absolutely hates everyone that they also turn to hating him. A “I do you like you do me” type of deal, but if they would just take the time… if they would listen and really take a good look at him… maybe they’d realize he’s just suffering. Everytime he gets mad at Mammon or gives a stern, “not now,” that’s him being overwhelmed. Or if his agitation shines through, it’s not because he’s truly annoyed, but because he knows they can do better. He pushes his brothers, absolutely, but only because he knows their true potential. He holds all this weight on his shoulders, for everyone, and instead of giving a small thanks, they ruin his day. It’s hard being the unwanted parent of six, but if he wasn’t, Hell would burn. Or, well, more so than it usually does. Diavolo adds to his work on the daily, and maybe that wouldn’t be such a problem, if he weren’t also the one distracting him from such work and then getting onto him for not having it done.

It’s hard being him. It’s hard to be the responsible one because you feel like you have to; because you feel like you owe it to them. He blames himself, heavily, for everything that has happened, even though it was their choice to join him. He lays there at night, more often than he likes to admit, and asks himself the big “what if” questions. “What if I didn’t go against them.” “what if I let loose.” “What if I’m being too strict.” Never, ever will you hear him say these things. Pride, ya know? But you don’t need to hear those things because you do know. You see it in his tired eyes and slumped posture once no one is looking. You see it in the way he eats and his coffee outweighs his nutrients. You can tell every time his anger rises too quickly, although he deems himself the rational one. You know Lucifer, even if he thinks you don’t, and you feel bad for him. You feel bad that you’re the only one who seems to see how truly tired he is. How much of a shoulder to lean on he actually needs, and although you’d never dare just go up and offer it, because once again his pride still wouldn’t let him admit that, you try to acknowledge his needs in little ways.

Coffee was ready this morning, Lucifer noted, but he brushed it off because maybe it was just Beel’s late night or early morning snack; maybe he wanted some? “The pot is full…” and he took advantage of that. Whoever made the coffee, and someone must have because it was still hot and tasted fresh, he thanks them. You smiled to yourself when you saw him with a cup, heading back to his office, “morning, Lucifer. Enjoy your coffee.” He had looked at you, blinking a few times and probably wondering why you’re so cheery this early in the morning, “Good morning, (Y/N).” but that was it. Well, not really. Next thing he knew was that lunch was already done when he arrived in the kitchen to start it. “(Y/N)? What are you doing? It’s my turn.” but you only shrugged, wiping your hands before grabbing the plates and heading out to the dining room to place them, “yeah but I was already down here and didn’t have anything to do. Don’t mind me, just come sit and eat.” He didn’t say it, and he didn’t need to, but he was really appreciative and he even managed a small smile when you passed.

Those were isolated incidences, though, or so he thought. But now, little by little, he realized more and more things that he had never noticed before. The rooms were clean, or at least the ones he was in, the fridge and pantry was always stocked, even with Beel around, and he rarely ever got interrupted. Of course, he still heard the occasional arguments between his brothers; Mammon stealing the remote right as Belphegor was about to put sleepy time music on… seriously, why can’t the guy do that on his D.D.D.? Or Satan screaming at Leviathan who accidently tripped over Satan’s books in his room while lending him his headphones. Shocker on that one, right? Or maybe it was a disagreement between you and Beelzebub about which spices should be used in the Spicy Hellburned Chili for this wednesday night’s dinner. But all of these were minor and nothing compared to what he usually deals with. At first he was super suspicious though and would constantly check on everyone, but by day three he thought that maybe, just maybe, he had gotten lucky and he finally does have some peace. Spoiler alert: he did. He got way more done than he ever did.

That, however, does bother him. He doesn’t know who or why they would do it and as much as he enjoys it, he would also like to have a discussion with them. His birthday isn’t for another couple of months so he knows that that wouldn’t be the reason he’s being treated so nicely, so what else could it be? Mammon would only do this for money and even then he’s pretty upfront about it and begs for it Lucifer immediately after he had done the task, so he’s off the table. Satan and Belphegor would rather die than help him, Asmodeus is too obsessed with himself and Leviathan is holed up more than he shows any signs of life. So, the only other two people are you and Beelzebub, both of which are very nice people and debatably the only ones who truly care about him. The last part is a joke, but you two show it more than others. “Was it you that has been helping me?” But Beelzebub just looked confused, half a bag of chips down his throat as Lucifer asked and something told Lucifer that he wasn’t it. “No, but did you need help?” With a shake of his head and a sigh, Lucifer turned on his heel to go and find you, but not before doing something else.

“Come to my room, (Y/N).” he had said and for a moment you thought your whole plan backfired and his brothers annoyed him again, or maybe you had forgotten something in it? Were you not careful enough in your attempts to make his life easier? You haven’t even gotten to the best part! “I’m here…” you practically sprinted down the hall while trying to find an excuse for anything he could potentially say, but when he opened the door to let you in, all of those left your mind, “what’s up?” He didn’t look… mean, per se, but he looked stern like always and it kind of freaked you out. Did you do something wrong? Was the coffee not strong enough? You used the wrong spices for the chili, didn’t you? “Do you see this?” Lucifer’s finger pointed out and you followed it, noting it was pointing at his desk, “uhm…. Yes? Am I not supposed to see it? Wasn’t it always here?” “Yes, it has always been there. However, something is different.” You turned to look at him and then back at his desk. Was it new? Did he paint it? Is there a trophy on there you should be aware of? “Lucifer I can’t see--”

When you turned back around, he was holding out two glasses of champagne and a smile was, for once in what felt like forever, gracing his lips. “Exactly. It’s empty. You can actually see it.” he hands you one of the glasses, his smile never faltering, “I had an unusual amount of time this week thanks to a few… coincidences that just so happen to align with my schedule and make my life easier. I know it was you. You made my coffee that morning, and were kind enough to leave the pot. You took up my lunch shift on purpose, not because you were down there. You also took my dinner shift this week, and cleaned the house. I’m assuming you’re also responsible for keeping my brothers in line which is a miracle within itself.” He chuckled softly, shaking his head before reaching out his other hand and tilting your chin up, “I don’t know how or why… and frankly, I don’t want to know. It would ruin the fun of it, but I do want to thank you for it and seeing as I have nothing else to do tonight, or tomorrow, you’ll be staying with me.” You blinked a few times. You could feel your heartbeat speed up and for a moment you wondered what you had actually done, but also, how bad could this go? You had one more thing to give him, anyway. “Works for me. I have one more thing to give you, anyway.” You clink your glass with his before taking a sip, watching him raise an eyebrow while your own eyebrows rose up and your lips turned into a smirk. “Undress for me, Lucifer.”

You hope he will agree to a massage. Lord knows he needs his shoulders loosened up.

and soon you were hanging out all the time

he confessed to you first

let's be honest, he developed a crush on you really quick

but he was still nervous to admit his feelings for you, even though it was obvious you liked him back

one of the only times you've seen him so shy and nervous lol

he bought you a bouquet of flowers and took you out to lunch and confessed to you there

he was really worried you'd turn him down so he was kinda surprised when you said yes to him being your boyfriend

and if you did cheat you'd absolutely break his heart and i would be legally obligated to hit you over the head with a baseball bat multiple times

but you never would because you love hendery too much to ever lose him

for some reason i can see hendery not being phased by pda?

he's doesn't hesitate to kiss you in public and hold your hand and give you back hugs and cute shit like that

because mans knows how lucky he is to be with you and is so proud to be your boyfriend

idk what you guys would have disagreements about

because his relationship with you is the first serious one he's ever had

so he tries his absolute best to be the perfect boyfriend

dates with hendery are always so thought out and fun

he remembers little things you've said in passing that you like

so if you said "oh i prefer fun, active things" he'd make sure your next date includes lots of opportunities to run around and get close to you

he's just down for whatever makes you happiest because the most important thing for him is seeing you smile :)

when he's away homeboy misses you so much he has no idea what to do with himself

constantly moans to wayv how much he misses you

rings you every night after he's finished his schedule to tell you about his day and listen to yours

usually you're the one listening to hendery talk but it's okay because you like to listen to him and he makes sure to ask you if he's boring you (which he never is)

there's no specific time he texts you during the day

he's not really the type to send good morning/good night texts unless you were already texting

however he randomly sends you pictures of his pets, louis, leon, and bella lol

and we're talking super zoomed in photos or him holding their ears/tails/paws in a funny position

basically 90% of his social media is you/selfies with you

he already posts selfies heaps so he doesn't mind adding you into the mix

as we've previously discussed he's not worried about showing you off

so he's not on that "i can't post my partner on insta" bullshit

it may seem sweet that hendery posts pics of you heaps but be warned

he does not care if you are pulling an embarrassing face in the pictures

in fact that makes him want to post it even more lol

you're constantly on his instagram stories too

he has a habit of randomly photoshopping his and your faces onto other people and then posting that??

don't ask me why but he finds it hilarious and totally normal to do that, so he does

he also likes leaving funny comments on your own posts

and he definitely sends your own posts to you in a text saying something like "I JUST DROPPED MY KIMCHI YOU LOOK SO GORGEOUS"

hendery prefers to talk to you in chinese (cantonese/mandarin)

but he'll also learn english or korean for you since he has the basics down and friends to help him practice

any other language he will struggle through to learn because he want to make you happy

hendery is the first one to say "i love you"

he's so in love with you that he probably says it after like a month of dating

so you're a little bit shocked but you can tell he really means it

and he'd be kind of shy about it because he knows it's a bit soon to be saying stuff like that

but he really wants you to know how he feels about you

because he's never felt this way about anyone and his love and affection for you is literally bursting from him

i honestly don't know much about hendery

except he's an absolute sweetie and would 110% be the best boyfriend ever

if i could choose anyone out of wayv to be my boyfriend i'd definitely choose hendery

because i know my feelings are gonna be validated and i'm going to feel loved 24/7 and also peeing myself with laughter

Sam is very supportive, patient and understanding with you, he doesn’t rush a relationship with you and will prefer to take things slowly. He will not want you to feel rushed at any point but at the same time he will make his intentions clear to you once he realizes he’s falling for you.

He won’t want you to wonder if he likes you or if he wants a relationship with you, he’ll lay it out for you and tell you flat out what he wants but at the same time he will let you know that he’s not in a hurry and is happy to move at your pace. He will make sure you are okay and comfortable before taking further steps in the relationship, and early on he will try to make sure that the two of you both want the same things in the future before even pursuing you further.

He doesn’t mind at all that you are shy and introverted, in fact he actually finds it kind of cute especially if you turn to him when you get shy in public. For example, if you get shy in public and become clingy towards him, but in general he is very understanding and won’t ever tease you for being shy and introverted. If he notices that you are becoming shy or uncomfortable in any situation, he will do what he can to comfort you or take you away from the situation.

Sam is also very comforting towards you when it comes to your anxiety and is very understanding as well as a great listener when it comes to listening to your thoughts, problems or concerns. He will read up a lot about anxiety and will try to learn about it for he can better help you, he’ll also ask you about your anxiety if you are comfortable talking about it with him. Because he will want to know how he can best help you or what could be possible triggers for you, and if you can explain it or tell him what could help or hurt you, he’s all ears.

Sam can become overly protective of you because of your anxiety, it makes him rather watchful over you and how people treat you and can be quick to come to your rescue whether it’s protecting you from physical, emotional or mental abuse or teasing. He loves to listen to you play violin if you’re willing to play for him that is but won’t push it if you’re too shy to play for him. He won’t push you to do anything you don’t want to and will rarely push you out of your comfort zone, he himself doesn’t really like to be pushed out of his comfort zone either and is happy being at home spending time with you.

You both like being there and helping others which make you both pretty attentive to each other, checking in on one another and making sure the other is okay. This keeps the channels of communication wide open between the two of you and makes it easy to notice when something is wrong with the other, he can sense it from a mile away if something is on your mind or bothering you. He is quick to address it as well he won’t like feeling like you are troubled, he’ll make it clear that he is there for you and will straight up ask you if you’re okay, if somethings wrong or if somethings bothering you. It’s best to be honest with him too because he can tell when you are lying or just trying to make him feel better or keep him from worrying about you.

He is very persistent and will stay with you and keep asking you if you need to talk or if you’re sure you’re okay, and he won’t leave it alone until he gets answers. The two of you also both enjoy learning and reading which gives the two of you a great hobby to share with one another, sharing info and telling each other about interesting books. He is very generous and will go out of his way to do things for you or get things for you that he knows you will like; he can even be a bit romantic at times but can also get a little shy or embarrassed when making romantic gestures with you.

He’s not shy about telling you how he feels about you and will tell you pretty regularly that he loves you and shows it as well, hugging you, kissing you, kisses on the forehead or the top of your head. He always makes a point of telling you he loves you before he leaves or before you go somewhere, he is very loyal and dedicated to you and does whatever he can to keep you happy and safe.

While he can be over protective at times even to the point of being controlling it just because he cares about you so much and doesn’t want to lose you, which can make him kind of clingy and hold on to you a little too tightly sometimes. ● Tends to be more of a dog person but that doesn’t mean he hates cats especially if you have a cat, though if you do have a cat, he can seem annoyed with a cat at times if it lays on his clothes, gets cat hair on his stuff or knocks his things over. But he really won’t hate a cat and will play with and pet it or let it lay on his lap.

● Sam is very loving with you and will initiate physical touch with you fairly often especially when he’s trying to comfort you, or if he’s trying to show you that he’s there for you. Touching or holding your hand, rubbing your shoulders or back, pulling you near him to lean against him or pulling you next to him and into a hug.

● He doesn’t argue with you and won’t even raise his voice to you, that doesn’t mean that the two of you won’t have disagreements but generally the two of you have an easy time talking things out and expressing your concerns or worries about an issue. He doesn’t like to argue and prefers to talk and discuss things peacefully and can keep a rather cool head as long as you stay rather calm as well.

● Can become more cuddly and loving towards you during the winter or when he can tell you are cold, often offering you his jacket when the two of you are out or getting you a blanket when the two of you are home. But will flat out hug you more often, sit with you and cuddle up to you more to keep you warm, especially if you like when he does this or you cuddle up to him.

He is very gentle, kind and caring towards you though he may not always understand how you are feeling or what you’re going through. He may not fully understand exactly what you’re going through when you have issues with anxiety, that doesn’t mean he can’t understand but you’ll have to be fairly open with him and explain your feelings to him. He is very comforting and encouraging though no matter what you are going through and is extremely loyal, staying by your side and sticking with you regardless of the situation.

● Gabriel

He is loving and playful though not particularly patient and can use humor at inappropriate times while trying to lighten the mood of a situation, it can seem as though he doesn’t take much seriously and that can make him seem as though he doesn’t care. But he really does care about you but can have a hard time relaxing and genuinely letting down his guard around you, but when he does, he can show a much softer and genuine side. He will become protective over you and can get jealous of you spending to much time with others which can make him act a bit childish at times and has no problems voicing his dislike for certain people.

I guess I'll need to express this. I'm sorry, but I don't see nothing wrong with people believing Pidge is a Tomboy. They have their reasons.

Um... Hello. It's been a long time since VLD ended, and I'm like two years late, that's for sure and I'm conscious of it.

However, I guess I needed to express something since I didn't see anyone having the same opinion or talking about this the same way I do. I didn't have many people in this topic to agree with, I guess there are some, but I don't blame them if they didn't want to share that here.

I want to say this before I start. The first: Maybe this is going to be a very long post, I don't know how much I'm going to write or how long it takes, so, sorry if it takes a lot of time to read. Second: Maybe I'm going to reply to some points or arguments that I've heard and I feel the need to answer them; however, I'm going to be as respectful and kind as possible, because my main purpose is not ofending anyone or their feelings. Third: please, don't feel harassed, attacked or offended. This post is not made to attack personally someone. It's made basically in order to express my opinions, you have the right to answer to it, I support freedom of expression, and as much as that means your can even insult me, I also have the rights to read your notes and answer to them properly.

So, now that I made this visible, let's start.

I've seen arguments, I've seen opinions and I've seen personal identification. Being a person who has also seen lots and lots of opinions about the show in general, specific treatment of the characters, critical opinions about how and why the show went down, ships analysis and theories and... Like, more. Looking for a lot of information in this fandom like I never imagined I could be able to do because of all the polemic situation behind, I evidently found opinions which I have a very solid disagreement with. Opinions that I thought didn't had answers or nobody answered them, and sadly I guess this is one of these.

I don't have any single problem with people seen Pidge as a girly girl, inf fact, I don't blame any of them, any. It's not even their fault, they'll have their complaints and even myself have some of how this came out. So, please, If you want to keep seeing her this way without any problem, please, do it! Keep what you're doing! This is a fandom, that's what fandom's are for, for expressing ideas, theories, points if view, headcanons, whatever! I also don't have any problem with girly girls in the show, its completely fine that there are, I even love minor characters that just appear in comics, like Princess Malocoti, so... Yeah, and underrated comic female character is one of my favorites.

I don't think its bad being girly, I don't anything bad with it. I'm also a girl myself. They can be girly, cute and be even more than that! Not only that, but I don't have any problem with other Pidge's headcanons.

My personal complaint it's because of some people whose form of public expression shows the necessity of others seeing the things the same way they do. Saying “its Canon, true facts” while I guess they are (maybe not intentionally) omitting some details that also can be easily considered as Canon and can explain why people see Pidge this way. I felt the necessity of doing this because It wasn't said enough, maybe it's not the popular opinion. I found not discussions, not answers... And I think it needed to be said. You don't need to agree with me, in fact I don't have faith for people publicly say the same as me. So, feel free to express yourself in the notes and reblogs.

So, while I do understand where the arguments come from or why, I have some stuff that I think can answer them. After this first section, of course I have even more to say.

1. Pidge dressed like a boy to enter to the Garrison, being this the only alternative she had.

Sorry but... That's very accurate! That's true. But, what happened to it? Was that exactly the only option she had? No. In fact, dressing like a boy wasn't a necessity. As someone whose name I reserve the mention (its out of Tumblr) “There were already girls at the Garrison”.

She was not obligated to dress like a boy and the show already showed how women in the Garrison (and out) were appreciated and recognized as strong as men there. Ina Leifsdottir, Rizavi, Veronica, Sanda, Colleen... These women already showed having great qualities that make them deserving of their charges. And not to mention the girl students in the first chapter.

And more appart?! Allura, who was incredibly important for Voltron. Axca, Ezor, Zethrid, Romelle... I don't think women were treated so bad in the show that could make Pidge feel bad for herself in order to see herself “obligated” to dress like a boy just to have others respect and be in the same group as men. Instead of existing discrimination, the teamwork and the cooperation of both genders existed in the show. Not to mention that in this, women are the most intelligent, capable and strong characters.

I'm sure Pidge knew she was a girl, I don't find a way about how dressing like a boy is going to easily tell her otherwise. There are women in the Garrison already capable enough, so there wasn't a reason for Pidge feeling bad because she was a girl, the Garrison accepted girls since the first chapter.

Apart, as I mentioned before, it wasn't the only option she had. If Pidge dressed like a boy, was because she preferred it for some reason, (a reason, by the way, that wasn’t shown), if not, I guess that was a writing or animation mistake. She easily could've changed her identity, not exactly her gender. It would have been better in order to preserve her feminity if they wanted so. It didn't seem to me like she forcedly had to cut her hair and abandon her feminity if she was that worried for that or if that was so important for her. Yes, it sounds like an argument in favor of trans Pidge, and while I do not share the same pint of view as the pople who think she is, I guess this point is a good one, there’s not even a reason for Pidge to dress like a boy in first place.

I had a suggestion.

Instead of the flashbacks we received, I would have preferred an episode of Pidge using her intelligence and spy capacities to steal different girls clothes in a clothing store, trick the employees and making sure her mom didn't suspect anything; after, questioning her most important decision: Go to the Garrison to save her family, which was so important to her that didn't even mind cutting her hair. Also, It would've been good to explain why she preferred to dress like a boy instead of using other options.

I personally didn't like how this happened because of how simple and lacked of effort her change was. Apart from her hair and glasses, she looked exactly the same, as similar as the girl who already hacked a very confidential information at the Garrison. Since that moment, they should've been more suspicious about Pidge Gunderson, even if he was a boy. It only made this seem like the security at the Garrison was low and people was not able to have common sense (that or being really bad at watching or identifying faces). Not only that, but, is Iverson ignoring the fact that “Pidge Gunderson” has exactly the same voice as Katie Holt?! And he even didn’t suspect?! It just felt like... they needed something to explain why the character has the design she has and being a girl, and if it is, it... it just didn’t need it anyway. It would've been funny seeing Pidge getting in trouble in the previous suggestion or at least disguise as a boy, but deal with Iverson. He could have known it earlier and have the dynamic of trying to catch Pidge while she's in the space, for example. Being suspicious but trying to catch her slowly while she notices he knew who she really was and start to take action passive and cleverly. I don't know, anything that could let Pidge know she's not dealing with any person. That would have made more sense, letting know how new Pidge was at trying this kind of stuff because she never had to do something like this before. Intelligent move between Pidge and Iverson every time in the academy with daring, sassiness and blackmail on the way and end being who she was before again with no problem. Other options are still the blackmail or dressing as another different girl and make an effort to look completely unlike, which would make Iverson and the rest of the members, more to identify her than just cutting her hair and pretend that nobody will notice her. And they didn’t for a while! LOL WHAAAT?! I mean, I know is a show dedicated to a general audience and everything doesn’t need to be that complex, but reinforcing the reason of why her decisions were this way and make that more than just the paladins could notice her, could’ve made her change have sense and still being simple. Wait, now that I think about it a little more, it seems like the Paladins have a better eye than military forces at this point.

2. Pidge felt awful because she loved her long hair and cut it.

I can’t deny that Pidge didn’t even seemed comfortable taking a big and risky desition like this. This also brings my comprehension of people thinking that this is the only option she had. Because it seemed like that, and they have their reasons. She looked like she didn’t want to do this and it’s sad to not see why she taked this decision specifically.

I think, however, this argument is actually omitting other reasons completely justifyable to Pidge's feelings that are also according to her story and the flashbacks.

The situation implies even more than this point. It implies her identity. Along with how she dressed, it also includes every part of herselft, all she was, her whole life was going to change for who knew how long. Her life at school, her hobbies on Earth, and even her interactions with her mom which also were going to cease.

A teenager took the decision to go to an academy alone just to then travel to the space to find her family and not telling her mom anything about it. She also had the probability to die out there without finding anything.

Another reason to be worried like Pidge, it’s the fear of being recognized one way or another. If that happens, possibilities of finding Matt or her father could decrease due to the time they could’ve been out. They were supposed to be “missing”, how long could they survive if they were alive? If Iverson catches, it would’ve been more difficult for her to enter again, even if she could have. They were going to increase the security and make sure more than usual to prevent her from getting into the Garrison so easily. The more difficult it becomes to find her family, the more time it takes in order to succeed and find it alive.

It can be more okay to me if they mentioned.

Please, remember that Pidge also has more important objective behind and also has to do with this.

3. The comparison with Mulan.

I... I guess I understand how people felt bad because of how Pidge "left behind her feminity of her gender" just two enter to it, imaginating how hurt she had while cutting her hair. Also, the comparison is viable if we think about the disguise, which is the strongest connection I could find, however, some factors like the personal reasons and the ambientations were omitted again.

Other kinds of people can also see the purpose in both characters: «Articulate a new vision of the female hero, question and scoff at social conventions and interrogate, through the deconstruction of gender binarisms, the precepts by which we build and order our reality», or at least, it seems so. Both characters are shown like female role models in positions where men are usually placed.

However, the characters have specific differences one from another. Specially if we talk about the personal experiences they have.

For Mulan, it was a higher necesity, and It had to do with her gender, because of historical and cultural instances. A man of every family had to be recluted and her father had to go even though he was sick. It was a crucial obligation serving the army. Mulan was in disagreement and decided to serve in the military, but her only way she could do this is not only changing her identity, but also her gender, trying to keep herself undercover. It’s also important to point out the way she couldn’t fit with the norms of her gender at that time. If we take the point of Pidge being comfortable with who she was and avoid mentioning her current changes as time passed in the show, we could see a difference between them.

In other comparison, Pidge had to disguise herself in order to be unrecognizable; it wasn’t exactly a gender problem, because her main purpose was to hide her identity, and her ambientation, unlike Mulan, was stable enough to disguise as any person of any gender in order to enter to the Garrison. The main objective was remaining long enough to find Matt. In this case we see Pidge cutting her hair and using Matt’s glasses instead of using a more elaborated disguise that can succesfully pass undercover, which is less convincent, taking into consideration, aspects like her face and eyes, enough to make her look suspitious.

The differences are in the ways each character reach a reason to disguise and the resources that let them to it; the way they act over the circumstances. Maybe it’s something that you know, this point seems irrelevant if we talk about the common factor that makes people compare them, however, this is used not just to make a simple and compelling comparison, but as a strong argument in order to make people who desagree look like they don’t have any other option. They can’t see Pidge as a Tomboy even if the show already has some hints to it (and let’s not talk about her at the end of season 8 ). 4. Clothes and gestures

Some people bring the argument to the table that Pidge is girly because she wore a dress. I don’t know about you, but I guess there’s more muliebrity than just wearing a dress. Many of Pidge’s gestures seemed to be from neutral to male (of course, with some exceptions already seen to enfazise the fact that she’s a girl after all). If we consider the “gender roles” again, Pidge is not much of a character atached to them. In fact, after the flashbacks, going back to who she was didn’t even seem as important as it should be. The character never mention anything about it again, letting me know how low her interest was; her clothes changes aren’t so femenine and is focused of things men are usually interested while being a girl, not to mention the typical “smart anime boy gesture”, and the different tones of her voice and their variants sound noticely more agressive compared to characters like Ezor or Allura.

5. (And last one, I hope) Sexual orientation?

It’s been days and months since I started to write this post, so, I really wanted to cover some things and not post things like this in a while.

I’m not in favor of headcanons forcely being above the facts in the show. I don’t have any problem with people’s imagination or creating a personal sexual orientation to their favorite character, It can hapen and I guess I’ve done that myself; however, Pidges sexual orientation is not confirmed. This can go for both:

a) People who believe Pidge is lesbian/asexual/pansexual/bisexual...

b) People who believe Pidge is straight until otherwise is shown.

For both kinds of people, the character simply doesn’t have almost anything related to it confirmed, specially because the writers gave her character another focus. In this case, literaly every suspition is posible or imposible, depending of how good the writing is, because there’s no negativity or confirmation behind it. The character could be as lesbian, asexual or others, as completely straight. There’s no limitation in this section. It all depends of the ideas, the writing and execution you want to give it. I’ve been reading the nonconformity of the people in this subject. I think both sides have veru extreme solutions, even though there’s no actually a “truth” in there. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People always are going to have different perceptions and are allowed to create new ones and let their imagination go, and that’s one of the greatest thing in fandoms, however, things can go a little bit extreme when people become angry and not tolerate other persons opinion. That’s why I’m writing this. I’ve read some comments telling others what to think and how to think, or what kind of headcanons they should have, and even though English is not my first language, I guess there are some things that needed to be said. There are people like that in fandoms in general, but this thing about Pidge has called my atention long time ago.

I appreciate that you take the time out of your day to read my witterings, and respond to them in detail, but I'm somewhat intellectually limited and it takes a while to write an answer.

The final one is a bit of a problem. The original post is long, your bit is long, and my addition is probably twice both put together.

Did you know Tumblr has a limit: no more than two hundred and fifty text blocks per post? I discovered this from experience, unsurprisingly.

I think the only solution is to split it across several posts.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I suppose I should.

I started this blog last May, to relieve the boredom of my main embarrassment, whose only likes (all three of them) were from porn bots.

It wasn't even meant to be about Pokémon. I'd left the fandom years previously. It was odds and ends, but I happened to find a few silly screen shots so wrote a couple of joke remarks, not expecting a ripple of interest.

Within a couple of hours I got more notes than t'other's managed even to this day. I had the idea this was where I was more at home, so I started taking it seriously.

My pseudonym was just daft thing I'd made up previously, to reflect that, whilst still in love with old days, I'm not exactly pleased with how it's gone.

I thought it might stand out as memorable, plus I like acronyms, so it affords me the opportunity to call myself 'T.A.P.'

In the early days the focus was on the 'maniac' aspect. Anger as a description didn't fit at all. The farther back you go, the more stupid and clownish it gets. It's not been like this all the way through!

Seriously, it used to be an entertainment blog, designed to make people laugh. It's all ages: no swearing, no porn, nothing to put anyone off.

(This post under discussion contains the only profanity I've ever deployed. I thought saving it up might add some oomph.)

I mean it, it's was all light-hearted ridicule. Every so often, there would be a slightly cutting remark, but mild compared to now.

Then, last September, someone I spoke to regularly, who assured me we were friends, suddenly cut off all contact.

At first I wasn't aware of it, but by October it became too glaring a silence to ignore.

I thought rifts started because of massive disagreements, but as far as I remembered our last exchange ended normally.

I found out by accident that the reason for it was because I am repugnant and morally inferior and so swollen with my own ego that the existence of others doesn't register. Instead they are but soulless droids built to worship the great T.A.P. mollusc.

Well that was news to me. I had no idea I came across like that. As far as I knew, I was on my best behaviour when we interacted.

I was polite. I tried to be ingratiate myself. I kept talk to the fandom. I didn't pry. I attempted humour when the opportunity arose.

I thought I'd done all I could to be liked, but apparently I hadn't. It was a revolting experience for them, for all of saying they loved me and I was 'honey'.

It really, really, really got to me, and the feeling hasn't abated, if anything it's worse.

As I said, I don't know what I did wrong, and because I don't, I can't mend my ways. If I am this repellant waste of flesh I'd like to change, but if I'm not told my offence, what am I meant to do?

If what I thought was the best I could be wasn't good enough, and instead was so sickening I don't deserve their presence, then I have no idea how to interact with people.

Maybe every time I respond to someone, thinking I'm at worst, civil, is really grotesque conceit, because my arrogance is so extreme I'm not even aware it's there. In my head it sounds normal.

It'd be too easy to scoff that they were the one with the problem, but, given all the arguments that happen in life, it can't always be someone else's fault. It's got to be you at least once.

They obviously think they were justified, so who's to say they weren't?

You may say not to let it worry me, that I should just get over it, and you'd be totally right. Being bothered makes me feel pathetic and petty on top of the rest, but this is me you're talking to, not a sane person. Self-hatred is more instinctive to me than breathing.

I always dwell on the negative. If one hundred people were assembled, ninety-nine of whom declared me the most wonderful being ever to live, and one remarked I wasn't all that special, it's him I'd remember.

It's called ghosting because that's what happens. There comes a moment when you accept that, no, it's over, rejected again, and it's like realising I'd died, and had been gone for a while.

Except I hadn't noticed the process, so I was always dead in a way, and they spoke to the silvery silhouette left behind, until that too dispersed into untraceable nothingness. Again, the silence is my fault for dying, not theirs.

I feel there's no point in messaging anyone, because I'll only disgust them too. Some blogs encourage contact, and when I see it I always think:

Yeah, but they don't mean YOU.

If it's another person I already spoke to, I can't shut up. I bombard them with text in the hope they know I don't think they're a menial droid. Every one I immediately regret, and wish I could take back, because that will irritate them until I'm just a sad, nagging past.

The Ghost-Maker used to reblog 99% of my work. This dropped to nothing overnight, so not only am I worthless, but so is everything I do.

Posts G.M. didn't like got 0-5 notes. Ones they did had 20+. Many a time, it took their reblog for anyone else to notice.

It was like others used that blog as a filter to pull the fool's gold from the murk of this one. Once their favour evaporated, so did a lot of the goodwill from elsewhere, so it's was as if Tumblr agreed I was scum.

Saying that above just shows they were right, because it takes one smug bastard to believe their existence registers with anyone else.

Please don't think I'm demanding likes, that my stuff deserves them, although as I'm arrogant I am. It's just that 99% to 0% is a bit of a fall.

Up til then, I held back much of what I thought about the current state of the anime, as they liked it, but now I have no reason to stop.

If I'm to be accused of all these vices I might as well have them. I'm dead, so who cares what I say? No one listens to a ghost.

It's not that I'm unconcerned if I upset anyone, it's just the truth that I don't matter enough for what I write to be valued enough to offend.

As a ghost, I think of this blog as invisible. It's there, but not really, so how can anyone mind?

Incidentally, the first week I was here I got blocked by someone who hates all fans from the Nineties. I don't care about that, as they sound like a cretin, and I'd have to be defective to gain their approval.

I just want to say I find that moronic. I don't hate new fans at all. I wouldn't block someone because we disagreed.

Blocking denies people access to your blog, stating they don't deserve your ART. That's arrogant to me.

Blocker likes Ghost-Maker, but...

Ever since around October, I've progressively become angrier and angrier. Whenever I'm here or Pokémon enters my head, it just reminds that I'm pond slime, about the most crude, malformed half-life freak you can envision.

I don't like being here anymore. I keep intending to leave, the site and the fandom, and set fire to it all before I go, wipe away the slug trail to spare people's stomachs.

I kept quiet until now, but holding it in just made it more intense. If I may describe myself in ridiculously flattering terms, I feel like a shaken champagne bottle, but the cork is welded in, so the only option is for the glass to shatter.

If anyone's reading this, wondering where the fun went, well this is why I flipped. The red mist won't clear. I can't see beyond it.

I won't name Ghost-Maker, because I don't want to start anything, plus most will take their side. They may see this as they still rifle round these parts occasionally for posts that aren't mine.

Well done, Ghostie. You're the lucky one. We'll never meet and you haven't seen me. Pity the poor sods I've encountered. There must be vomit trails across the land provoked by my vile condition. I wasn't aware of this until you let me in on the secret.

There's an English television presenter called Caroline Flack. She killed herself yesterday and everyone loved her. I feel guilty that I'm alive and she's not.
