Let's start with my favorite item of the set, Bonbon Hair. It's the cutest hair I've ever created, and I'm really proud of it. The bow is adorable, and I was finally able to make a great 3D model of it. I'm really happy with how the hair looks - it's exactly what I had in mind. I hope you love it too! One thing to note is that the bow on Bonbon Hair isn't removable and won't work with hats. Usually, I prefer hairstyles that can be worn with hats, but for this one, I needed more space for the bow's texture. I also drew the bow's shadow onto the hair's texture to give it more depth and a better overall look. I also made sure to keep the polycount low - around 6k polygons. I could have made it lower, but it didn't look as good in movement. So, I kept it at a higher polycount to maintain good movement without too much distortion.

I designed the dress to complement the hairstyle, adding a bow at the back for an extra touch of charm and romance. I used a new mesh from the latest kit that I couldn't wait to franken-meshing with it. My goal was to create a vintage silhouette and style, and while I'm not sure if it was successful, I'm very happy with the final result. At the end of the day, it looks cute, and that's all that really matters.

The nails are a kind of old wip that I finally decided to finish. It's one of the cutest designs I've ever come across, and I was determined to recreate it in The Sims. I love a stiletto design, and for me, one of the best nail art is this one; it matches the nail's format and is so cute. The nail includes two color options but only one spec option. However, I plan to create additional versions in the future, including a glossy and matte finish, possibly as part of a mini set that I'm working on that will have this and other versions of some of my recent clothing designs.

Next up, we have the Biscuits Earrings. These were originally a work in progress meant for a different set, but while I was styling the Sims, I realized how well they matched with the current Sweet Tooth Set. So, I quickly finished them up and included them as part of the set.

By now, it's all. Unfortunately, I've been working very slowly lately; thanks to this heat wave, I feel most of the day like I'm melting. It's scorching in here, guys. I don't understand how a person can say global warming is a lie; really, how?!

Close-up of Rajwa Al Saif's henna party outfit on 22 May 2023. The dress, by Saudi designer Honayda Serafi, took more than 2,000 hours to create, and includes several hidden messages of love, Vogue Arabia reports.

“Crafted by Saudi designer Honayda Serafi, Al-Saif’s henna dress is a vision in white and gold. The future queen of Jordan celebrated with family and friends in a look that takes inspiration from the traditional Najdi dress, known as Sahabi thoub, which originates from the Najd region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Keeping in mind the occasion and the family, Serafi made sure to combine the cultural beauty of the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to celebrate the union of Rajwa and Prince Hussein beautifully.

Featuring a handcrafted veil and dress, Rajwa Al-Saif’s pristine white henna outfit comes doused in 3D ornaments, made using a mix of silk, metallic threads and traditional reed strings (a signature element of Najdi embroidery). To create this masterpiece, Honayda Serafi took cues from the bride’s personality, attempting to reflect her innate grace, the rich traditions of her land, and her contemporary spirit.

Look closely, and you’ll notice that Al-Saif’s gown is replete with lovingly made details. Featuring a high round neck and full sleeves, the crepe gown features an inverted triangle-shaped bodice that is inspired by the traditional Najdi bodice design, normally worn as a separate piece. As the body-skimming gown continues, it flares out towards the ankles to create a mermaid-esque shape. The bodice of the gown is elevated using embroidery: soft organza flowers share space with geometric shapes and Arabic motifs, all of which are typical to Saudi Arabia and reflect the beauty and traditions of the bride’s homeland.

Rajwa Al-Saif’s veil has also been embroidered with meaningful designs, making this piece so personal to her journey. Seven Jordanian stars adorn her veil to signify the seven-pointed star that sits proudly on the Jordanian flag. What makes this symbol even more special is its religious meaning: The star on the Jordan flag signifies the seven verses in the opening chapter of the Holy Qur’an, and the seven mountains of Amman.

Along with the stars, the veil also features intricate palm trees as a reference to Saudi Arabia, and even some poetry. The words “I see you, and life becomes more beautiful” have been embroidered into Al-Saif’s veil, from Tunisian poet Abu al-Qasim al-Shabi, known for his Andalusian notes. If you’re a fan of Rajwa Al-Saif’s elegant wardrobe, you may already know that the bride-to-be has a soft spot for special symbols when it comes to her clothing. Back in August 2022, when Rajwa was officially engaged to Prince Hussein, she also commemorated the occasion with her clothing—an abaya that was embroidered with two gold birds, symbolizing two souls in love.”

The veil took 760 hours to complete

An exquisite piece of couture requires hours of effort, and Rajwa Al-Saif’s henna outfit is no different. According to the designer, Al-Saif’s veil took 760 hours to complete, and was worked on by a team of experts, craftsman and women. Extending to 10 meters, the piece was made using handcrafted tulle, a process that normally takes close to 2,000 hours of work. As for her billowing gown, the creation is the result of 340 hours of work.

Real person message!! When making your sculptures (or other things too really!) do you ever get bored of making the same kind of guy many times? And if yes, do you have a way to spice up the process, or do you prefer to just move on to something new? (I love your work a ton! Both when the types are very different but also when they are like siblings :D)

Oh man YES I do get tired of Particular Guys! Sometimes because the whole process is so labour-intensive (hello, Woodsbeasts & big Bird Ladies), sometimes just because I run out of creative steam on 'em (most recently, sphinxes), Thankfully (because the timelines of pottery are so so so long) just not making them for a batch or two will give me a minimum 6 month break & by the time I think of going back they feel fresh & exciting again.

I also have the benefit of pottery being the more flexible part of my job (I'm also an illustrator/graphic designer) - when it started to become a viable part of my practice, I promised myself that, with the exception of commissions/prepping for particular sales, most of my batches would be of whatever I felt like making at the time. As opposed to my other work, which takes the shape of particular projects (a book, a report for a client, etc), I can just tootle away at my pottery desk, sculpting weird beasts that make me happy. This has worked well for me & I plan to stick with it as an approach for the time being.

Mugs/vessels are a bit different, as the actual making of the forms almost becomes muscle memory (especially the slab-built mugs), so it feels less creatively draining. I can, however, burn out on particular types of vessel decoration, eg. the EIGHT (8?!?) medieval-marginalia inspired pieces that are in the glaze kiln as I type. They took SO LONG and by the last couple of mugs I was full-on cursing my choices (tho if they turn out well I know I'll forget all about the pain & go oooohhhh let's make more. This is how my terrible brain works).

So yeah! Burnout happens, but I don't let it worry me because I know my weird little guys can wait until I'm ready to make 'em again :)

Bumpy road, pretty result

Whoaaaa. This one...

The next fanfiction I bound was Cinder and Smoke by @thelittleblackfox. I lover their work to pieces. They write incredible thought out Stucky!AU's with a lot of fantasy aspects or really good scifi and I wanted badly to do one of their fics, but waited til I was a little happier with my results and could make a pretty cover. We decided together on this one and I started formatting... And then I stopped for a long while because Word is the devil.

Cinder & Smoke is a western!AU and just about the most romantic thing I've ever read. It has yearning and a little angst and a very distinct vibe that feels like Fernweh and wilderness and change. Go read it!

I worked on it between June and December 23 and Christmas was the only reason I finished it this quickly, but I did not want to leave it unfinished for the turn of the year.

Sadly I don't have a lot of pictures, but when I'm finished with my copy I'll post some more.

Now we'll come to the journey it was to finish this!

It started out rather uncomplicated, because I thought I had gotten the hang of formatting and then, when I tried adjusting the font and overall look of the text body Word kept killing the italics. And I googled and tried and experimented and I just couldn't get it to stop. I was so frustrated, oh god. It put me off a little and I had to leave it for a while. When I came back around to it I found a slightly butchered solution, that works though so I won't question it. After that formatting went smoother and I was able to bind it. I used paper from that same supplier that fucked up my paper order for the covers from the notebooks. But only after I had it printed I noticed that it was cut crooked and wouldn't cleanly fold in half. I despaired a little, said fuck it and hoped it wouldn't be to noticeable. I think it's alright.

Binding went really well and I think that's the cleanliest job I did to this date.

Did the endbands by hand to match the color scheme I was aiming for. Because of the title I wanted to invoke fire and used primarily black and red for the coloring.

Then came the cover. First of all, don't use black bookcloth. You will see every. single. mistake. Also dust and glitter... I brushed this thing so often, you wouldn't believe it.

And I tried different vinyl. I couldn't find the right shade of red I wanted, it's a little hard to source it around here so I went an entirely different route and used golden glitter vinyl. What I didn't know until after I plotted the design: The glitter has texture. I couldn't see a single cut-line. I had to keep the picture open to work along the edges and not rip the letters. Still lost all of the i-points 😭

The flower was pretty easy though. Glueing it on was also quite hard because it just wouldn't hold and I got glitter everywhere. Which let to more brushing but I'm afraid mailing it destroyed all that work :D

Anyway. I am sooo happy with how it turned out I instantly forgot about all annoyances and was able to mail it before the end of the year and that was a really satisfying last project, so all is well :)

This was also the first time I had the idea of choosing a little icon for the author's penname because most of the time I don't have enough space for the entire name. I reworked all of the other books to accomodate that.

Happy Barbie Movie Release Day!

It’s nice to feel excited about something again.

It’s not every day you see a toy product centered movie gaining this much positive attention, much less one that deals in the existential horror of being alive. Which is, actually, exactly what I expected out of it and am very happy to see.

Barbie’s probably one of if not the most recognizable and successful product Mattel has, and it’s been that way for decades. But why am I talking about that here? This is a things-full-of-liquid-with-heavy-emphasis-on-water-games blog!

Well, you’re not gonna believe it, but Mattel being a toy company that’s been around for this long, has actually dabbled a bit in our territory! And they actually made a good couple of water games themed around a certain blonde blue eyed doll and her best friends!

So! Without further ado, may I present to you……..

Polly Pocket Tiny Games!

What? Was that not where you thought that was going?

Believe it or not, there really aren’t many Barbie water games at all, just cheaply reskinned ring toss games with a Barbie backdrop…which is both baffling and disappointing considering Barbie has had COUNTLESS beach, pool, sea, and just general water themes. Polly Pocket though? Got 6. You may recognize these if you’re a veteran of this blog.

Being one of Mattel’s latest ventures in water games, my sources tell me that these were actually received incredibly poorly, averaging at a 2-3 star rating. While definitely cute and unique, reviews often mention that the games seem to be designed more for aesthetics than actual play, and that it’s very hard to get some of the play pieces to actually move. Not too surprising looking at those cramped tanks. Wasted potential for sure!

Ohhh but I can’t just end the post there can I? That’s such a bummer! Well, what if I told you this wasn’t the first time Mattel tried their hand at making water games? What if I told you that in 1989 Mattel was one of the few big toy companies that actually dared to challenge the reign of Tomy’s Waterfuls during the peak of its popularity? Oh it’s very true, and considering you’ve probably never heard of it, you can safely assume how that endeavor went. But it’s intriguing nonetheless!

Trouble Bubbles/Fun Bubbles

Documentation of these online is mostly limited to listings on buy-and-sell sites (As always. I can’t stress how vital these sites are to conserving lost/obscure media.) so there’s not a lot known about these, and not many pictures of them either. What I can gather is that Mattel made at least 6 of these as well, 3 Trouble Bubbles games and 3 Super Trouble Bubbles games. The main difference between the 2 being Super Trouble Bubbles having a small switch that allows you to redirect the jets of water, which is pretty cool and admittedly not something I’ve seen in other water games! Both also have a wind up timer to challenge yourself to complete the game in a short period.

I’ve yet to collect one of these myself, but they look pretty decent in terms of quality and stand out nicely. They never fully took off in terms of popularity but I think they’re pretty cool, especially as a piece of toy history! Not too shabby at all for Waterfuls competition, my hat’s off to them! Not bad Mattel, sad they haven’t recaptured the same inventiveness for their Polly games. But hey, honestly? Nowadays would be a GREAT time to bring back Trouble Bubbles if you ask me. Water games are coming back in style and Waterfuls has been slow in new major products for quite a while. Who knows? It may just be able to snag that crown sometime in the future…

Unlikely.

I am in awe. The lighting, the detail work?! It has the feathers of trimax but the plant patterning of stampede (and oh gods, the patterning, the detail, the glow--) and then Vash's damned hand?! You've got all the pieces plus the texture and I'm just staring. AND the symbolism! Like, you've got Wolfwood staring at Vash, though Vash himself is hidden from view, and I'm just ajkghdkghjkd

designing the unicorn twins was an interesting little challenge, trying to make them look horse enough to be able to blend in with the masses but also predatory enough to make you go hey wait Thats Not A Horse. vash needs to put more effort into making himself look harmless because A. he moves differently from an equine when he isnt putting up an act with his exaggerated gait and B. the prey part in my centaurs brains is alive and well and theyre a suspicious bunch by nature so seeing vash stalk towards them in his normal gait would set off a lot of alarm bells

Alright friendies, I was suuuuuper late to watching Be My Favorite, episode 10 yesterday, and I write this to you in the twilight of a hotel bathroom while my kids are sleeping, HA (writing meta on a road trip is a thing, I tell ya, but it's GOTTA BE DONE!). And the other issue is that I haven't fully caught up on all the meta for this episode floating around, so I apologize in advance, because I should be citing all the friends, but let me instead just summarize what I THINK is happening on Tumblr, thanks to the GODDESS, @lurkingshan, who was updating me yesterday.

I think that there's differing thoughts on that last scene of intimacy and how we got there, and what exactly Kawi's hesitation is all about. I'm going to posit Some Theory Stuff, but overall -- I think this was a FANTASTIC episode, still keeping up with the intentionality of what this series has previously established (we'll disagree a touch, @lurkingshan, but not by too much, because I don't think this episode got Jittirained -- thank goodness for the "inspired by" caveat in the opening title sequence), and I screenshot some bits of this episode to accompany this ramble, so let's boogie.

I think the first giveaway of the intentionality of this episode was the framing of the three main parents of this series giving their kids either advice and/or feedback and/or evidence of their own changes in their own lives that made them happier and/or better people.

In Kawi's dad's instance: we know he will pass, and he knows he has a chance at passing. He tells Kawi: stop holding your life back for me. Move forward and live.

In Pear's dad's instance: he says, listen, I was angry at your mom for a long time. The way that I moved forward, and became stronger, was to forgive. That's a hell of a piece of advice for a young adult -- and we see Pear taking that advice when she speaks with Kawi and Pisaeng, and being the badass we knew she could be. Pear's dad also utters this line, which I think sets the theme and tone for the rest of the episode -- and, of course, the rest of the series.

In Pisaeng's mom's instance: we see Pisaeng essentially demanding that his mom be happy for him. I actually thought this was a really smart and interesting scene. Many of you know I analyze these shows from an Asian/filial piety lens, and I actually thought, in that scene -- I was like, damn, Pisaeng is talking like a Westerner here. And I liked that -- I liked that Pisaeng was standing up for his happiness as a tangible emotion, and daring his mother to meet him where he was at.

I also thought the interplay and flashbacks between Pisaeng's mom and Kawi were really smart. I believe there's some meta out there theorizing that they MAY have been in a crystal ball moment, which I will definitely not rule out, because the full content of that call between Kawi and Pisaeng's mom was still a touch unresolved and a little confusing -- but I am going to assume it was intentional until proven otherwise. High hopes.

Okay, so we then get to the hesitation bit, the bit with Kawi and Max talking about sex, the breakfast congee, the theme park, the dinner date, and the night-night woo woo. And then the before-credit wrap-up of Kawi's call to Pisaeng's mom, and the (I think) unreliable preview to the very anticipated episode 11 next week.

Here's my Big Theory: I think this entire episode, including all the parental feedback, was rooted in a Big Krist Macro-Level Commentary about Krist's past in BL, particularly by way of his extremely clear hesitation in intimacy in the SOTUS franchise with Singto Prachaya. If BMF, inspired by Jittirain's original novel, was designed to include such huge references to Krist's past career, including his many fumbles, I would posit that this episode was the encapsulation of many, if not all, of those threads.

a) I think Kawi's talk with Max goes into Krist's hesitation about intimacy on screen.

b) During the breakfast congee scene, including Pisaeng's wiping Kawi's mouth, I got STRONG Kongpob/Arthit vibes. Those morning breakfasts at that little table! (I will admit, as I said to @lurkingshan yesterday: I benefit from my Old GMMTV Challenge in these current analyses, because I so recently just WATCHED Krist's old shows.)

Kongpob was randy, y'all. (SINGTOOOOOOOO.) So is Pisaeng. (GAWINNNN!!!!) And Arthit just never quite caught up -- and Krist was out there wiping his damn mouf after those kisses. I posit that Kawi's playing the clean-up hitter here after all those strike-outs.

c) So during the theme park scene, I was laughing, because yes -- who actually goes to eat at a theme park, unless you're going to Disneyland to eat the turkey leg (amirite). BUT: as that scene went on, I thought that it might have served as a metaphor for Krist's career in BL. In other words: when you're at a theme park, you gotta ride the rides, right?

When you're at a theme park -- you gotta theme park. When you're in a BL, Krist.... you gotta BL. Somehow, someway. You gotta play the game.

And Kawi walks away from the rides, huffing. Pisaeng follows him. Pisaeng keeps trying to be romantic. And Kawi says:

Oh dear, my dude.

d) Dinner scene. Pisaeng is taking the blame for Kawi's bad mood. Pisaeng's not sure what else to do.

Kawi is at a precipice, and he knows it. He knows that sex is important to Pisaeng through Kawi's previous discussion with Max. Max has explained -- okay, if TWO people are not into it, then holding hands is okay. But if ONE person IS into it, you will have imbalance. AND: you will not know that you MIGHT like it IF you don't try it.

I think the impact of Kawi's decision to let intimacy in was referenced in this shot -- which I just thought was fucking brilliant.

Kawi looks for a second at the table next to them -- a man sitting alone, having his dinner. I just thought...that was so great. A Krist analysis in this moment is a bit of an extrapolation, but going back to Kawi: I think Kawi recognizes, vis à vis the past parental feedback that he got from his dad, that his life WILL be impacted if he holds himself back any longer. I think that's a gorgeous message. (And, honestly, it does actually apply to Krist and his return to BL, so there we go.)

e) Bedroom scene. Pisaeng asks.

To me, this is the encapsulation of what didn't -- or maybe even COULDN'T -- happen in Krist's past career in BL. And I think Kawi, and Krist, take a huge leap here, and I think Kawi proves to himself that change can happen in his life, and possibly make his life better. And I think, again, that that's also a metaphor for Krist's own career in BL -- that taking risks can produce great art from his acting, a skill of his that many of us fans questioned for so damn long.

Just to wrap this up quickly, I think there was some commentary out there about Pisaeng's original intentions during the first time he enters Kawi's bedroom. Kawi finding the condoms did remind me of Pharm finding Dean's condoms in Until We Meet Again (that show is always on my mind now, like Bad Buddy), and I think Pisaeng's mom explains enough to Kawi by way of whether or not Pisaeng was acting "differently," if you will. Pisaeng's mom said to Kawi -- dude, what the hell do you think Pisaeng is getting at, don't overthink this, lol.

Again, I posit that Pisaeng is playing a kind of Kongpob stand-in here by way of randyness, and I'm not sure it's out of character for Pisaeng. The man communicated that he has his needs! So did Kongpob. And Krist's playing the faen who's gotta catch up to that, in both instances. And we ultimately see the different ways in which Krist's characters handle that pressure.

I'm really excited for next week, and I will hang out with everyone on the sidelines of gentle hesitation that this show can stick its landing. But that being said: I really thought this episode was great, and I posit that it didn't falter from its intentionality in its macro-level intelligence. This show's fucking great.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday Arch! I have a question for you.

What is the state of medicine in your world? Are things like surgeries, chronic treatments, prosthetics even, common? How are these advancements viewed, and who has access to treatment? Is there stigma associated with medical conditions?

Hey there, and thank you kindly for the Ask!

So, while I was very much tempted to make my answer far more complicated for myself than it needed to be, I'm sure we're all happy to hear that I am not doing that. To keep it simple, we'll be sticking entirely with the 'modern', or 'current' state of medicine in the 12 Worlds, in the United Commonwealth.

A/N: Well, I gotta say, that went a lot faster than I thought it would! Tagging @athenswrites @caxycreations @hessdalen-globe @thatndginger @avrablake

These days, medicine and healthcare in the UC is doing very, very well for itself and for society at large. Both recognisably advanced 'scientific' medicine as well as what might be termed more 'Magical' aid are fairly common, and medical science grants the people of the Commonwealth longer, healthier lives than those enjoyed anywhere beyond else. Healthcare in the modern day is a state service and the largest function of the UC's "welfare', alongside education. It is administered through the Directorate General of Health, which provides a scaled system of public-private payments which seek to ensure maximum coverage across even the least developed segments of the sprawling Commonwealth.

Those, at least, are the spark notes on how it all functions at the highest level. To answer your specific questions:

There's long been a certain association between large portions of the medical profession, and an over eager tendency to err towards taking the most thorough, and invasive, treatments they can. The relatively recent phenomenon of Chronic patients receiving better designed long term treatment is, partially, a reaction to previous sentiments that all efforts should be spent on wiping out the ailment in question as soon as possible, and getting the patient out the door just as quickly. With constantly increasing life spans, I'd expect that the resources allocated to treating conditions associated with old age would only increase as well.

Prosthetic limbs, and artificial organs, do exist in the UC, but mostly serve as temporary fixes while fully 'grown' organs are painstakingly cultivated, pieced together, and eventually reattached to the patient. Such complex organ regrowth is also a relatively recent innovation, and has its roots in the long running efforts of the UC Army to treat its war wounded. General 'disabled accessibility' is nonetheless something treated fairly seriously and well in Commonwealth , since it'd still take time for any physically disabled patient to regain the full use of their bodies.

These technical achievements are generally viewed with great pride across the Commonwealth, and are seen as validations of the UC's systems, institutions, and principles. Under modern state healthcare, accessibility has been promised to all UC citizens, anywhere, anytime, and great efforts have been underway to construct the vast apparatus and infrastructure needed to deliver on that promise.

At the same time, the perceptions and attitudes that exist within Commonwealth society are hardly universal, despite its best efforts. Just as some view the interventions of the central government as that of a foreign entity, stigmas and prejudices do exist within the various societies that make up the UC's vast fabric. Those which have existed within the Commonwealth umbrella the longest tend to take less prejudicial views in general, while attitudes differ in those societies which have less integrated with the UC's "zeitgeist"

A Brief Note On 'International Health'

Though I wished to keep this all simple, a comment on the Commonwealth's systems of health cannot be complete without addressing how it relates with 'foreign' states through that medium.

Many aspects of the UC's established politics is rooted in the internationalist 'Pan-Humanitarian' movement, whose founding advocates, though often varied between themselves, still acted in unison to bring about the union of their various nations into the singular Commonwealth. This worldly streak certainly remains in the mainstream of UC politics, and can be seen through its undying attempts to export what health it can to the peoples of the Worlds.

Alongside its more general forms of 'civic aid' - which might include disaster response assistance, operating 'mission schools', and even the 'training' of governments employees - the UC has often attempted to provide direct medical support to non-hostile foreign nations. It is for that mission that many thousands of UC healthcare professionals have been 'deployed' abroad, working in conjunction with the Foreign Commission and local agencies to provide the full panoply of medical services, within their means.

Further afield, the UC leads the Worlds in a number of healthcare related movements, most notably in terms of international vaccine roll outs and disease eradication efforts. Often conducted through the forum of the venerable and private Al-Safi Institute of Medicine, it features the most visible attempts by the Commonwealth to reach across borders and blocs to work towards solutions for all humanity.

I am already melting with glee at feedback to my addition on @moonchild-in-blue's artist thread, I've been stimming for a good hour bc I'm not sure how to properly respond 😂😂 i am very shy, let's just get that out of the way but thank you for the responses you guys are beautiful!

Here is the close-ups that were requested! I really just have them for Vessel's "face" and hands, as they have the most detail vvv

I actually had a lot of fun messing around with "face" designs bc I knew I was not gonna be able to draw Vessel's current mask in a full-body piece like this at the level of detail my brain would be pleased with on this canvas size. I've seen so many cool takes on Sleep's eyes tho and how they would manifest through Ves, so I had to give my little spin on it

The ribbon was actually a suggestion from my friend bc originally the idea was for him to be holding some kind of necklace or chain, but I couldn't really decide on like, a style? so they helped me out lol

The pauldron was also cool to get down tho why must filigree be so difficult @.@; I stared at one single reference photo for like 3 hours, I swear it was ingrained into my retinas for about a day once I'd finished that part 😂😂

And I had to add the claws, you can never go wrong with claws on a not-quite-human character. The gradient of the paint was also a must, I'm a sucker for subtle corruption elements

I am god awful at backgrounds, so this was literally me just fucking around and throwing stuff onto the canvas and saying yep, it's good 😂 obviously there's a decent amount of callback to Sundowning, towards the end I did kinda try to give it a blend of all three eras/albums, but there's definitely not enough TPWBYT. That can be rectified in the future tho, heheehe

Of course, however you guys want to read it isn't necessarily right or wrong, just like how we all see the music, go wild with it. I am absolutely down for different takes

So, the start of one of my fave OTPs starts with him conducting a search of her house, as one does...

In the aftermath of Cao Cao's failed assassination attempt, Diaochan finds adopted daddy with a dagger preparing to cut his throat. This would have been a very different narrative if she came in a bit later but as it is, she cool-headedly talks him out of it pointing out that clues point out Dong Zuo is not sure. Common sense to the rescue! She also points this out. Love ancient politics.

Lu Bu is here armed with a search warrant. Search warrant being "daddy ordered and I got an army and sharp weapons."

God, she's the only one with brains.

I love how he always is about a halfstep from going on a full scale massacre of anyone who looks at him sideways and yet in terms of romantic relationship, he's pretty much the sole man who has any rights in this whole drama (except for ZL.)

Good news. He's only here to search the house to see if Cao Cao is hiding here (yeah, it means Warlord suspects him but has no certainty yet, that's something).

So they are searching the house and he sees a movement out of the corner of his eye. It's Diaochan in her quarters but of course he has no idea. EEEE! On rewatch, I am so stoked!

And then he sees not an assassin but a beautiful woman. I kinda love how they are both frozen but while she's affected, he's completely spell-bound. I approve of psycho experiencing love at first sight.

"Also future wife of both you and your dad."

That is the most entertaining first meeting ever "so yeah, I was there to search her father's house for traitors and if we found them, she'd have gotten executed along with everyone but luckily that didn't happen and instead we hooked up." Or something. You just know he is dying to ask her out for the ancient Chinese equivalent of a coffee date (A public hanging? A sword-fighting exhibition?)

Anyway. This is even more entertaining if you upend "wanna go out with me?" to the end of each of his sentences.

She starts spinning an amazing mix of lies and truth. Love her. Also, he sees what he assumes (due to design and pride of place), Minister's ancestral dagger, one they thought Cao Cao was trying to use in the assassination and why they thought the Minister was involved. If the dagger is still in Minister's house, as opposed in warlord's possession post-assassination attempt, that means he's not involved (or so they think. This is a much fancier replica - everybody believes this is the original when it isn't).

Heh...flattery will get you everywhere. Also look how happy he is he doesn't have to murder her fam.

Delicious!!!!

Anyway, it says volumes that as smart and cool under pressure as she is, she eventually just says fuck it and basically engages in a suicide mission because she doesn't want to live without him. She very much had the smarts and the looks to continue as a cherished side piece for some powerful man but she really did not want to at all.

hi! i really love your designs, the colours are always really well done anf the characters are full of life.. and i love how your rewrites give the characters complexity and make them really interesting to me, much more so than canon(though i am a fan of some ideas introduced there, they don’t quite turn out in ways that make sense to me)! i’ve been wondering a few things about helluva troupe for a while however and hopefully the answers aren’t spoilers, lol.. in HT, what is Fizz’s involvement with the ‘troupe’ and what is stolas’s involvement too.? i wish you much luck on your work as it is lovely to see! With Fizz it's,,, a bit Fuzzy, because hilariously he's the whole reason I made this AU among other things But I ended up makinh him a sorta side character antag again because while originally he was going to be part of the main crew from the start of HT's storyline, as I went along in trying to write I saw some cool hcs about his star clown days and so I thought to use the more canonized view- mostly in that he's a star clown during the events of HT instead of dropping the show life to join Blitz in I.M.P. That previous version is why you see him in the I.M.P references- and hinty hoo that ol version isnt completely null and voice to the current HT

ANYWAY so yeah- While Fizz isn't as much a main character as he was he still has a great deal of importance to the story and themes I want to express in HT. When it comes to him and the Troupe itself, I could best describe him as one of the biggest foils or parallels to the main cast. Just,, he's this golden image that represents their every want fulfilled. For Blitz especially given their thick history heehooo. (That's not to say this 'golden image' is entirely as it seems btw...)

Now it sounds much like canon I know but I like to think I'm taking a different direction with it- It's not really just the "haha you suck with relationships, fuck, shit, pénis im doing better look at my good relationship" nonsense cuz for 1. Fizzarozzie does nOT exist anymore- its Mamzie now 😊 (Mammon + Ozzie) and 2. The themes with Fizz and really most of HT has less to do with the melodramatic romance "will they wont they" of Stolitz (which isnt really a thing either) and more the struggle impoverished and oppressed peoples experience with success, failure, identity, community, family, status, history, trauma, etccc. Specifically, because I am an indigenous person from Canada, a lot of the themes are drawn from my own experiences, knowledge and history as an indigenous person. Though with execution, creative liberties were taken to make the fact they're in Hell clear btww-

That very likely did nOT answer jour question but i amn,,,stoopi 😭😭😭 simpler answer i suppose maybe by chance would be Fizz is an eventual antagonist to I.M.P. Specifics and how it happens and wheNNN?? Im still not sure yet if im honest- been really busy the last year or so and so Ive hadnt had any time or energy to work as much on writing all the things! ;u; thats probs disappointing to hear cuz plaNNing and all is important if you're gonna post story stuff at all,,, but !! I do hope to work more on the story this year so i can wrap up all these floating ideas into a Concrete line of stuff cuz truly all im missing is the middle pieces. ANYHOOT ONTO STOLAS! i rambled a bit too much about Fizz cuz im still figuring him out- Stolas might be a bit shorter cuz his role is sweet and simplisticerr.

So, Stolas is an antagonist. He and Blitz still have an exchange sort of deal, but the deal is Blitz gets to keep the grimoire for I.M.P if he handles Stolas' "errands" and gives it back on the full moon with ofc none of the uh,,hawny stuff, obv. Blitz kinda keeps this deal under wraps from the rest of I.M.P because for him, it hurts his pride to admit he's in need of some big guy's help. And Stolas is somewhat aware of this. And so, Stolas is this looming, cruel threat that Blitz carries the burden of cuz he's stubborn as fuck whilst the rest of I.M.P remain ignorant.

Some bonus notes that dont really have to do with Stolas involvement with imp but jus how stuff ive changed with his canon influence the story diff than canon; so, Stella isnt a thing anymore. In general the Goetia work much differently- majority of the Goetia being the children of Ozzie instead of Paimon (who is Stolas' sibling now btw too) and the Goetia being thousands of years old instead of fucking 30- Also! While Via is existant she is but a baby instead of a moody teen,, ties heavily with Stolas' motives and how he operates as a character, royal, and Goetian and felt it would work better with how HT Stolas is as a character than it would otherwise.

Also no worries about the username! I dont like canon stolas much either lol,,;

What have I been up to?:

Summary:

(I play a drawing video game and learn some stuff to improve my art abilities. New full render coming out on Sunday. Get excited.)

What was I doing?:

While I was gone, I was playing a game on roblox called "Spray paint". And basically you just paint anything on the walls of an abandoned skate park and let other people view and like your drawings. I have made a few pieces and this game really helped me develop a new style that utilizes zero black lines to convey realistic attributes. With this development, I have also changed the designs of two upcoming characters that will be featured in my comic!

Who are the featured characters?:

The two (new) bots have gone through some major design changes as I got to play the game more. One character who already has their named revealed to be "Raven" is reserved for a future robot piece. Her latest design is the very first picture in the collection. The second new bot will remain unnamed at this time until a post showing off his full design comes out. His latest designs are in the 8th and 9th pictures.

The third bot you should see (in the very last picture) is a redesign of "Aleister". He now has four large bat-like ears, bigger hands, two red horns on top of his head instead of the sides, and two metallic antenna cylinders on the sides of his head. I don't know why I decided to redesign him but now I realize that I needed to spice him up a bit more.

Different art style?:

As you can see throughout the pictures, the box-head robot; and "Raven" have very drastic changes between each piece. This is when I was deciding on what their canon design should look like. And eventually to come to an reasonable design that I am satisfied with. These are my two first ocs that have been created with the assistance of Roblox. And I am happy that I also have developed a new art style along with this. I am planning on using less black lines in my art to make the pieces look more realistic. At the moment I am still learning how to use this new style in Procreate, so further adjustments will have to be made.

When do we get new robot post? I'M HUNGRY!!!:

Don't worry my followers, turns out that I have been cooking something while I was gone. My next robot piece releases on Sunday at 1 PM like it always has been. This new piece will reveal the name of that box-head, skibidi toilet TV man looking, robot dude (The robot is not a reference to Skibidi toilet), and showcase a new experimental style that can enhance my photo-realistic ambitions! So stay tuned for that!

Character design and step-by-step process for my Torchship Commission. It involved character design, posing, starship art, rendering, and a LOT of work. This is, so far, my biggest and best commission yet. I thought it might be interesting to look at how I went about drawing this.

Initial character design sketches to get the feel of the characters correct. I used more of a lower decks style especially in the eyes at this step, but they would be more detailed by the time i got to making the final drawing. I had to do Martin in color because of the psychic energy being in her head.

the actual line-art is pretty rough here. in retrospect a big part of that is simply the neck placement relative to the head. but that wasn't the point. the point is cool whispy aura/halo.

Iterating on the faces, putting them on bodies with relative heights Holmes is a career spacer and so very tall; Yureli is a martian, and martians are all very short. Also, I forgot Stevens' goatee, so that had to be added! The facial expression on Martin had to be changed to be more "bedroom eyes" as per client feedback. :P

note how Holmes' robot arm attaches to her spine down her back. The robot arm was not specified in the commission info, but I thought something that resembled a NASA rover robot arm, or maybe Canadarm, would be really cool and interesting.

Mockup with the sketch mostly finished. I was asked to lower Martin's ACER pistol to be more like a secret agent kinda pose.

And after more tweaks to placement and proportions and cleaning of lines, the finished sketch:

sorry i just noticed a bunch of technical errors in my previous sketch. this is so embarassing. i had to fix this. here's a fixed version

Mary Gilham 32 was started on a separate project file. I started by tracing the basic proportions of the Mary Gilham from one of the reference renders I was sent, then I added a lot of the details. The warp rings were made by using the ellipse tool to construct the different pieces of the rings and move them into place; way better than freehanding it.

Now, I had procrastinated starting this project for a couple days, but by the time I actually got to working on it I could not stop. I had started the concept sketches at 2:44 PM and I finished the line-art and silhouette for the Mary Gilham at 10:48 PM. Job well done for the day, I went to bed.

And then got back out of bed because I couldn't sleep, lmao.

I finished the line-art for the characters, and the silhouettes.

and finally, at 1:00 in the morning, I sent this full color unshaded drawing and. surely i went to bed right?

...I sent this at 2:00 AM.

yeah my brain was broken. i spent another hour rendering the rocket. I considered just using the CGI render by Holly, but the visual mismatch would have been pretty bad. Plus, I like how I did the Cerritos in Guzcomic, still looking both metallic and realistically lit but also storybook kinda feel. The sunlight shading was simple enough, but making the self-illuminated parts of the ship shine was really cool. The glowing bits use a combination of normal blend modes and blurred Screen blend modes on top of the line-art layer to look a little like bloom. I'm not fully happy with the radiator illumination, it looks a little on the unconvincing side, but the radiator emissive glow looks great, and the illumination coming from the cloak ring and the warp rings looks great. By the way, the red glowing end-caps which look like star trek's bussard collectors are just big warning lamps indicating a radioactive nuclear or antimatter rocket. The nacelles are rocket tanks and engines; the warp drive is one of the big rings.

THEN i went to bed, for real this time.

In the morning all that remained was to add the flags on their shoulders and do the final shading/rendering on the crew.

and finally I finished the job. There were a few touches I saved for last, like rim highlighting from the engines on the characters, and colored reflections from each other's uniforms, but that didn't take too long. Oh, and Martin got her psychic energy being in the last hour too. Overall I worked from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM that day.

The final drawing has some easter eggs to look out for that would never appear in the format of a podcast thumbnail. So feel free to zoom in and look around. I like placing little easter eggs and visual gags in my art. :)

Who is Skweeb?

While I have told bits of pieces of the story when people have asked, I've never put together the full story into an easily accessible post like this. This should give people an idea of exactly who and what Skweeb is, for those who might not have stuck around with me for long enough to know through experience.

Skweeb is the character I often use the represent myself online. He's a short, plump red demon/imp with spikes on the side of his head, ears on top, and two large black eyes connecting to his mouth, which has two prominent fangs. He has mitten hands, stumpy, boot-like feet and a black tail.

Skweeb is an interesting character. Dating back to his origins around the first half of October 2021, I created him with no intention to become a proper character. He had no name, looked very primitive, and featured alongside two other demons, that I'd also later redraw and expand with proper names. His creation was an accident!

The drawing initially didn't gain much traction. I went on to work on my next drawing unaware that he'd very quickly become who I use to represent myself with online. If the drawing didn't do well, why would I pivot back towards the character?

The reason is that this unnamed, throwaway character got me my first ever piece of fan art, from one of my good friends!

Seeing this, I worked towards making Skweeb into a full character, starting with the name. Where does the name come from? quite frankly, I'm not sure myself. It's simply something I thought of randomly while looking at the character. It could have possibly come from the game Bugsnax, as one of the characters often calls the main character a "Squeeb" during the earlier parts of gameplay, although I admit that's a random guess. I'm really not sure!

Other runner up names included Prud, Mal and Fom.

After the inital outburst of love for the character, I quickly started on developing him out more. Over the next few months, Skweeb's legs would be made longer, he'd gain a much more pronounced belly, and an overall more "rounded" design. By april of the next year, most of these changes has been made, and Skweeb looks a lot more like what he looks like now!

It's only been just over a year since the character's creation, but I am so, so happy that I managed to settle on someone to represent myself with online. In 2021 I was going through an odd "Identity crisis" regarding how I presented myself online. Up to this point, I had been using Jack Frost from Shin Megami Tensei as my "sona" of sorts, but considering he wasn't something original I came up with, it always bothered me. Skweeb changed that.

While I do use Skweeb as the character to represent me online, there is one thing I want to specify. He's not me. He's a character I made, and use to represent myself, but he's not a personified version of myself. He's different in key aspects, such as various parts of his personality. I like the 'lil guy I've created, but he's not a representation of myself in an OC.

And thus concludes the story of how this duder went from a throwaway halloween imp to demon at the forefront. I hope you enjoyed! I'd been putting off telling this story for so long because, really, I'm just lazy. With the addition of this to my Tumblr posts, I hope to get these out a lot more quickly, I still have ideas.
