HIIIII!!! my name is clover and this is my intro post. i WOULD make an about page but i really don't want to bc im lazy keep reading if u wanna know thingz abt me bc this will take a while trust

okay so, i go by he/she/they. I am a minor and i don't know if i'll post a lot but i got some heavy fandom opinions i might share bc i get kind of passionately rage-filled at some things.

i'm also aroace!! interests!!! ☆ there's a lot so be warned

any colored, bold interests are ones im REALLY into so you dont get bored reading - if you havent gotten bored already

only bold interests are ones i adore but aren't fixating on at the moment my interests are ANYTHING cuphead related (casino cups, etc.), gravity falls, splatoon, idv (i dont play the game bc i suck but i love the lore + chars), undertale/verse, HORRORTALE ESPECIALLY, silent hill, rdr2, resident evil, lego monkie kid, jttw, any mythology really, scott pilgrim, heathers, coroika.. kind of?, tmnt (2012 & 1987), white day; a labyrinth named school, the path (videogame), sonic, FNAF, madoka magica, serial experiments lain, MY OCS!!! (I HAVE DOCS ON ALMOST ALL OF THEM PLEASE ASK ABOUT THEM!!!!), um jammer lammy, hollow knight, fictional horror, PETSCOP, luna game, cookie run kingdom, REGRETEVATOR!!

i have more interests but they're more minute so its unnecessary to name ALL of them also theres already a fuck ton of text soooo ! oh i also like making my own versions of aus (especially problematic ones or poorly written ones (ofc im not bullying any creators of aus by saying them and their creativity sucks, they don't suck, but some popular aus are just..... ugeeeeehhh. also some creators are bad people so they kind of deserve it. I just want to make a better space for fans of said aus.)) byf ☆

I am not defending the movies, but why are you so triggered by them seemingly doing Sonic Adventure 2 before Sonic Adventure 1? Like, what is it about the game that makes you angry that aren't adapting that yet (despite the movies not supposed to be one to one adaptations to begin with) to the point of outright praying that Sonic 3 bombs?

1) it’s the year 2024! use the word trigger in the correct context please!

2) i honestly wish sonic movie 3 would be good because this is the public’s major reintroduction to shadow and the concept of sonic having serious storylines. the only reason i hope it fails is because it’s ran by paramount & because the series as a whole is terribly flat & without heart & i don’t want this to become the new norm

ok, with that out of the way, why do i think they should do sonic adventure 1 before sonic adventure 2?

a) amy.

if they don’t want to adapt sonic cd then sonic adventure is a perfect game to introduce amy in! she has a great storyline that impacts sonic’s final confrontation with chaos and it’s a great way to showcase her character! she’s headstrong, she loves sonic but she’s not afraid to tell him when he’s wrong, she’s extremely compassionate! it’s a great introductory story for her. and amy plays such a key role in sa2- reminding shadow of maria’s true wish- and i think they should have introduced her before an sa2 adaptation. either they’re going to introduce amy in sonic 3, which will be difficult due to how story heavy sa2 is, or they won’t have her at all, and someone else will replace her in the scene, which is a very big disservice to her character! it’s also just really shitty in general to introduce shadow before amy when amy is a core classic sonic character.

b) exploration of the mythos of the chaos emeralds.

sonic adventure 1 & 2 are direct dialogues to each other, even if it doesn’t seem like it. sa2 builds off the mythos of sa1- you can especially see this in the colony ark, where a lot of the core is based off angel island! the shrine is based off the one in Angel island! i think it loses its impact if there isn’t the previous context to realize the implications of gerald knowing about angel island and studying it! sa2 build off sa1 in minute but important ways and to do one before or without the other is a disservice to the overarching lore

c) they probably won’t go back and adapt it

sonic 2 seemed to try to vaguely adapt sa1- longclaw wiped out the echidna clan and they explore the master emerald. i genuinely don’t think they’ll go back and establish sa1 after this since they “covered” (shittily) the major beats of sa1. and this sucks!

there’s so many good scenes in sonic adventure 1! it’s a defining story for every character involved. amy gets a storyline that shows off her compassion and heroism. knuckles learns more about his history and culture. tails learns to not be in sonic’s shadow- that he’s a hero too! it’s a very character defining story!

plus the fight scene with perfect chaos and sonic would have been so good and im so pissed we’re never going to see it!!!!!

d) there’s no good reason for them to skip it

this is a fan favorite game! this is a very well loved game in the franchise! there’s no reason to skip directly to sa2! they’re only skipping it because they know shadow is a fan favorite and they’re trying to rush him in to milk more money!!!! there’s just no reason for them to skip this game in favor of sa2. i can understand skipping sonic cd, i can understand combining sonic 2 & 3, but there’s no reason to skip sa1 when it is such a defining game in the sonic franchise.

i just think it’s bad writing to skip sonic adventure one, especially when i think there’s only so many sonic games that have a very easy & adaptable storyline that could work well on the big screen. it’s such a waste of a beloved game that has intense overarching lore implications.

wat r ur thoughts on frontiers so far??? i havent been 2 invested in recent sonic stuff but im watching a live playthrough and the atmosphere is sooooo cool it def seems like a step in the right direction 4 the series XP

OMG LITERALY ITS SOOOOO GOOOOD sum aspects kf it reminds me of unleashed which is awesome 2 me cus rhats one of my faves… i dont pay much attention to actual gameplay in sonic i mostly like the storys and characters but frontiers is supeeer fun and i love being able to explore and do the challenges and the stages are pretty cool too … im not the best at them thiugh…. Seriously ive been talking myselr so much about how much i adore it its like they made a game just for melina i never play video games but this is so so fun to me. I was kind of confused at first tho ill be honest it is overwhelming with how big the islands are (im on the second one right now i forgot its name:P) but ithink im getting the hang of it its SO FUN EXPLORING SOOOO FUN and i like how sonic even mentions he likes how muchcroom there is to explore … omg the characterization im not too sureabout for amy i dont know if its her voice or what but THAT IS NOT AMY ROSE! I always get sad when she is written as more mature i miss 12 year old amy…She is so sweet though i still love her forever.&knuckles is so silly i love seeing sonic knuckles interactions OMG jusy so happy to see sonic characters talking to eachother and being friends i LOVEEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also sage js so interesting i have no idea what is going on with her i didnt keep up with anything about the game before it released cus i didnt want spoilers but i like her. Very interedting veeeery interesting i like how they bring back phantom ruby stuff(i assume) along with lore established in sonic adventure i think it really ties the world together in a way i always craved im so hapoy they are building more on chaos and angel island and master emerald lore seriously … ALSO I LOVE THE DESIGNS FOR ALL THE CREATURES SO MACH OMG the koco are adorable i want keychains of them and in the second island the enemies are so sick oh mai god . … the little kocos true old form or whatever look like chaos mademe go nuts i got so excited i wonder wat it allll meaaansss…. Hopefully i will FIND OUT! Also the msyic so badass im so hapy after i finish the game i know i will be listening all the time its just too good>< i love how huge the game is too and there is socmuch you can do in it if you want to. Also im super into the weather and time changes i think it is so cool but makes you think sonic is staying awake for days and in the rain so gross he needs a shower .. I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS ASK I HAVE BARELY TALKED ABIUT IT TO ANYONE Nothing beats sonic adventure though🤷‍♀️lets be real.actually i miss sonics adventure attitude wah but i think in frontiers it is kind of saying they are older and not so much kids anymore which could explain why amy is like that… still not into it personally but i always think its interesting to hear them acknowledge past events.okay im done.okay. ITS JUST SO COOL before it came out i kind of thought i would not apply anything in the game to how i view the sonic world in my head (cus thats how i feel about sonic forces LOL i just ignore it) but its surpriseing me how much i like it i havent liked a sonic games world building this much since sonic unleashed ... still i dont think frontiers will be like the basis of sonic for me but it gives super intruiging bits and pieces that i will hold on to forever in my brain. OKAY.i played at schol today in my math class its so hard playing in public cus i need to chill💆‍♀️OKAY IM DONE. okay but also like for me i usually dont really care much for new sonic stuff i like the old stuff wayyyy more but i agree this game is like a huge good step for the series GAH OKAY

id like to start this post with a link to a fundraiser masterpost and a reminder to do your daily clicks.

as i mentioned in my last post, i probably wont be posting about anything scu-related in the future, at the very least not anything praising it. if i reblog shadow referencing a keanu reeves role, my bad, ive only seen so many things with him in it. if i reblog scu art that i think is just mainline, my bad, i wasn't thinking. im gonna be honest i dont even think ill do little things, like stobotnik but in mainline context, though i will say, stobotnik mainline au may be like. the 1 exception??? because i do like the ship??? but thats the complete extent of what ill post, if that.

a part of me wants to say "but this is spoiling other people's fun!" and then the other part of me says "by not giving a platform to actors and a company that is complicit in genocide" and it shuts up the first half pretty easily. remember that considering everything, while yes it's likely to have very anti-military, anti-us themes, there is a chance both knuckles and sonic 3 will contain hidden pro-israel propaganda. if it wasnt obvious, i don't want to post about israeli propaganda.

for anyone who knows me personally, or at least messages me, im more likely to be more leniant seeing as. well. it's not public. but im still not sure if ill talk about it unless it comes up in conversation???

ik i have a handful of people here who are mostly scu fans, possibly even scu exclusive. ig im sorry??? i can understand why theres a lot of scu fans, so i suppose if you like scu but you also want to stop posting about it, may i recommend some OTHER things to try (this is a long list so buckle up:

hop (2011) has a similar plot to sonic 1 and has james marsden (who is also not a good person but i dont think even universal would care if youre pirating hop (2011))

a really good place to start is honestly the snapcube dubs!!! you might get a few spoilers from context clues but theyre a really fun way to get to know games a little bit! obviously, theres a big barrier of there only being 5 dubs of 4 games, but i feel like once youve watched the dubs you can sort of get into the rest of her videos from there (theres also. theres this one. this one series. that people like. btw.)

while yeah i recommend the games, theyre sort of hard to know where to start. all i can really say is, dont start from forces or frontiers, at least know the plot of sa2 and thats basically it. ig if you want to play EVERY game, you dont really need to play anything before sonic 3 & knuckles and even then you can still start from sonic adventure and learn the plot of s3&k

NiGHTS is fun but also youll learn nothing about sonic i just wanted to mention it

if youre more into the action, i recommend sonic prime (and also, a few fix-it-fics or rewritten endings)

i recommend sonic boom if you want the comedy* and the characters living (mostly) normal lives. also you can literally watch most of sonic boom for free on youtube idc if im biased i will die on the hill of it being the best sonic canon. yeah im even including rise of lyric. no i have not played rise of lyric. do not mention the wasted potential of the concepts or i will explode.

*no offense but sonic boom is way funnier. idc if im biased because the sonic films are honestly only a step up from mcu humour most of the time, if that

if you want lore, i recommend the comics rather than the games, seeing as its slightly daunting where to start with the games. for a slightly more sanitised and. ig "normal" experience, read either idw or post-reboot archie. but if you want things to get a little wild theres pre-reboot archie. the only archie comics ive read are sonic boom and NiGHTS, so im not speaking from experience. but. wow. theres a lot to unpack there

if for whatever reason you just want sonic thats completely different to the games, i recommend sonic the comic and any of the 90s cartoons!!! theyre honestly really fun and because theyre so early on in sonic history (?) theres so many inconsistencies

sonic the fighters is fun but also you literally will never have to play that ever and its hard to find anyway

im pretty sure ive mentioned every canon there??? and a few things i dont need to lol. but the point is, if you are a fan of scu, you arent immediately a bad person! BUT (and here's the bit you actually have to listen to): if you are posting and praising the scu, particularly the upcoming projects, you are giving a platform to a large chunk of zionists.

Vigil

Vigil loves to steal and wear Echo's oversized pajamas (and by pajamas i mean those old clothes you use to like, be at home) and hoodies. It makes him feel protected, plus, he carries around Echo's scent.

He doesn't like video games as much as Echo does, but his favorite thing to do when they're off duty is to watch Echo enjoy his video games until he gets bored and starts teasing the gamer lustfully as he plays, yeah, he is a horny man

Vigil is not affectionate in public and neither is Echo, Vigil wants to himself profesional around people. Echo doesn’t mind being affectionate in public, but respects Vigil’s desicions.

Vigil can get really loud when ever Echo pins him down 😳😏

Vigil is the big spoon, he can’t sleep if he’s not squeezing Echo’s chest

Vigil really likes (like, a lot) to shower with his partner. Not with sexual intent (most of the time lol) but to just spent time intimately, to scrub, caress and contemplate eachothers bodies.

Echo

Echo is aware Vigil likes to keep it profesional in public, so the most daring thing he can really do is to stare at him, perch his eyes on him, he knows Vigil can feel his look.

Echo hates going against his partner in the simulators. He hates to disorient him, he knows how painful and annoying the sonic blasts can be (he has tried it on himself, lmao) so he tries to avoid him as much as he can.

Echo ocasionally calls Vigil Soba-chan (japanese noodles) because Vigil is delicious.

Whenever Vigil is deployed on a mission, Echo likes to grab Vigil’s blanket (yeah they dont share blankets because Echo keeps rolls in to it.) to remind himself he will be okay.

Echo used to be super awkward with him until he asked him out.

Vigil sometime tops him whenever he manages to get really drunk, and Echo never complians 😏

Echo is, surprisingly, the best cook from both. Vigil also is very good when it comes to cooking, but Echo will often insist to let him spoil him.

"Oh my god, this is it. THIS is the kind of video I’ve been waiting for.

I care about the Sonic series - like, really really care about it. ’06 was undeniably a disaster, but the fact that highly influential people use it to dismiss all that’s come since - and even pretend the older games were never critically acclaimed - is frustrating beyond description.

And yet, when I think about ’06 itself, I can’t bring myself to feel anger - just a haunting poignance.

(To clarify, I played it in 2012; I had some laughs, but it was still so insufferable that it took me 6 months to beat. I thought experiencing it would quell the feeling, but alas…)

I think it’s because, somehow, the game’s plot ended up broadly reflecting its real-world presence. It’s permeated by the concept of disaster and a sense of utter failure; a wildfire that’s near-impossible to put out; a yearning to fix the past and restore what you love, to mend a faux pas with one last chance.

By no intention from Sonic Team and SEGA, the game speaks about itself like a twisted modern art piece. It’s no excuse for what they did, but this quality makes it feel almost poetic.

But who are we kidding here? It’s taboo to talk about Sonic that way on the Internet, especially on YouTube. God forbid you feel anything but apathy, maybe disgust. “What, you wanna treat Sonic seriously as a subject? Into the cringe compilation with you!”

It always warms my heart to see people go against that; who refuse to use the same 12-year-old jokes or subscribe to the demeaning "they're all just autistic furries" attitude. It feels good to know there's people who actually care - people who are just as heartbroken at the scale of '06's impact, of the parroting and exaggeration that's gripped the public consciousness for over a decade.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is... thank you.

(Mini) Genesis does, what Nintendon’t - a proper Sega Mega Drive Mini review!

As you guys, gals and girls know, I’m a HUGE retro 8/16 bit video game system fan, because when I was a child, I couldn’t afford, let alone buy myself such a great gaming device. Besides, my love for Mario and Sonic comes from this time period, when I was only 4 or 5 years old. I still can good remember, how awesome the americanized-japanese version of the Sega Mega Drive was!

Yeah, this ad never gets old! ;)

Fast forward 30 years later (this system came out on the 4th of October 2019) and I got the chance to buy (with my own earned money!) a classic collection of the finest 40 games from the Sega Mega Drive (Mini) era! And boy, is this video game system awesome!

And a throughout comparision to my OG Mega Drive from the year 1990! It’s soooo tiny and small!!! ^^

In the package, you get an HDMI cable, 2 controllers, one console and a power cable. You set everything up, chose the play language and are greeted by the menu screen and the catchy music. In the menu, you can also change the screen size. I always pick the big screen size, because I’m not a fan of those ugly black bars. But still, wow, they made the big screen mode just absolutely right!!

The other thing that this company (I think it was M2) made the emulation absolutely nailed it is the speed of the emulation! I can clearly remember, how slow the sound of Sonic 1 was when I got it, together with the forementioned OG Mega Drive, on my 30th anniversary birthday. The sound was really slow. But in this version, nope, the sound and gameplay are ultra-fast (playing in 60 fps is really a charm for yout eyes!), just like Sonic would love it! ;)

Just look at the gameplay speed!

Now that’s what I call “gotta go fast!” :D

Another thing I like about this device is the fact that the buttons are really soft to touch. But not only that, they are also very responsive. No input lag at all!

All in all, it’s a great video game system, one that every retro fanboy (myself included!) should have or should buy for his kids for christmas. In comparasion with the Playstation Classic, that just wanted to get money out of the classic games, this is quite the opposite of it - they wanted to preserve those gems of games. And they did an awesome job in doing that!

(This console will be used for next years 2020 Virtualna Retro Arena in the movie theater in Idrija - just need to buy two wirelles controllers and hack it once it’s public!)

The good:

+ Retro fine design

+ Very small, almost pocketable.

+ 40 great games + 2 bonus games.

+ Has an HDMI output.

+ (Really) fast emulation and smooth controls.

The BAD:

- Quite a steep price.

- Where’s Sonic 3, NBA Jam or Mortal Kombat 2?

- At the time of this review (8. October 2019), it’s not being hackable ATM.

Wie ihr Männer, Burschen und Mädels weisst, bin ich ein GROSSER 8/16 bit Videospiel-Fan, da ich solch ein system in meiner Jugend mir nicht leisten könnte. Ausserdem kam meine liebe zu Mario und Sonic aus der Zeitperiode, wo ich nur 4 oder 5 Jahre als war. Ich kann mich noch immer gut an die Werbesprüche von der japanisch-amerikanisierten Sega errinern.

Ja, dieser Werbespruch wird niemals alt werden! ;)

Fassen wir und 30 Jahre nachwärts (diese Konsole kam am 4. Oktober 2019 heraus) in ich bekam eine Change zum Kauf (mit meinem eigenem hartverdiendem Geld!) einer Klassischen Kollektion von 40 Spielen von der Sega Mega Drive (Mini) Zeitperiode. Und Mann, is diese Videospielkonsole toll!

Ein näheres Foto der wiederauferstehenden Version der Mega Drive Konsole.

Und eine zusammengefasster Vergleich der OG Mega Drive aus dem Jahre 1990! Es ist sooo klein und fein!!! ^^

In der Packung bekommt man einen HDMI Kabel, zwei Kontroller, eine Konsole und ein Netzteil. Man schliesst alles ein, wählt die Spracheingabe ein und man wird von einer tollen Music in Menü begrusst. Da kann man auch die Bildschirmgrösse einstellen. Ich bin nähmlich kein Fan von den schwarzen Balken. Deshalb wähle ich immer den Grossbildschirmmodus ein. Aber immer noch, wow, haben die Macher dieser Konsole den Grossbildschirm-Modus hervorragend eingestellt!

Die Konsole, die am TV vernetzt ist im Grossbildschirmmodus.

Das andere Ding das ich gesehen habe (die Kompanie M2 machte dieses Gerät) ist die Schnelligkeit der Emulation! Ich kann mich noch sehr gut daran errinern, wie langsam die Musik in dem Spiel Sonic 1 war, als ich meine OG Mega Drive zum 30-jährigen Geburtstag bekam. Die Musik war wirklich langsam. Aber in dieser Version, nein, die Musik und Spielerlebnis sind ultra-schnell (so in 60 fps zu spielen ist Balsam für’s Auge!), so wie der Sonic es lieben würde! ;)

Schau dir das Spielerbniss an!

Das andere was ist relativ schnell festgestellt habe, ist das die Tasten auf dem Controller wirklich sehr sanft und weich sich anfüllen. Aber nicht nur das, sie sind auf sehr meldisch! Kein Inpu Lag!

Alles im Allem ist das eine wundervolle Videospielkonsole, eine die jeder Retro-Fan (so wie ich einer bin!) haben muss oder zumindest für seine kinder zu Weihnachten kaufen muss. Zum Vergleich mit den Playstation Classic, wo es ihnem nur um Profit von klassischen Spielen ging, ist das genaus das Gegenteil - die macher (M2) wollten diese Diamanten weiterleben lassen. Und sich machten einen aussergewöhnlich guten Job dafür!

(Diese Konsole wird for nächstes Jahr 2020 für die Virtualna Retro Arena in dem Filmtheater Idrija benutzt - muss mir nur noch zwei ohne-kabel Controller kaufen und die Konsole hacken, wenn mal öffentlich wird!)

+ Retro gutes Design.

+ Sehr klein, passt fast in die Hosentasche.

+ 40 gute Spiele und noch zwei extra Spiele drauf.

+ Hat einen HDMI Output.

+ (Wirklich) sehr schnelle emulation und sehr glatte Tasten.

Das Schlechte:

- Ganz schon hartnäckiger Preis.

- Wo sind Sonic 3, NBA Jam und Mortal Kombat 2?

- Zum Zeitpunkt dieser Rezension (8. Oktober 2019) ist die Konsole noch nicht zum Hacken geöffnet.

If you never use rpg maker I strongly say thatyou

SHOULDN’T go head first and make a super long game. Youcan, but just note that you are going to get stuck on everything. Just making asmall test project to get to know the engine really helps you to know how tobasically use the engine.

Whattype of story do you want to make?

Try to write down the basic ideas of thetype of game you want to make. For example: a game about a young elf girl istrying to find the shard pieces for a star she broke. Just something basic, fora concept it doesn’t have to have a million endings and everything the fullgame is going to have.

Demon Tea’s concept idea was basically ademon girl that ran from home and found a village where she met a happy golucky person.

Concepts =/= the final game, your concept is just the foundation/ plan ofthe game. Like how you draw guide lines for a drawing, the guide lines aren’tgoing to be in the final picture but its there to help you.

Don’t go crazy on your game: Don’t get trap in remake hell [PERFECTIONISM]

We all want to make our games amazing and the bestthing ever, but please take in account that nothing can be perfect. Its not abad thing it’s the truth, there is no such thing as a perfect game. Every gamehas flaws but even if a game isn’t perfect it can still be enjoyable. Perfect=/= enjoyable.

Enjoyable= how a person felt about a certain thing. I enjoy sonic adventure 2 and it’s avery flaw game but I still enjoy it. Like how people enjoy the movie the room, it’sa very flaw movie but people love it because of the flaws since it makes themovie.

Thoughjust because the game isn’t perfect =/= not to care how you made the game, youshould put effort and care into the game. Just remember that the game is somethingyou are doing for fun and enjoyment. Don’t go crazy over wanting to make thebest game in the world, since this is a subjective term. Meaning what peopleview as the best is different from you.

Justdo your best and the work will pay off for sure.

Whatis the reason you want to create the game?

Understand your true motive on why youwant to create the game you are making the game and make sure you always rememberwhy you are making the game.

But please note: that you should be makingthe game for fun and because you want to do it, making a game just to be popularcan be a reason but it would be something that drives perfectionist since youare trying to make a game people like rather than a game you care about. This would lead to self-doubt andredoing things over and over never making progress. You can dream about seeingpopular lets players playing your game and having a bunch of people playing it.BUT DON’T think its going to be the next Undertale and get ahuge fanbase of people all around you go crazy about things. Don’t expect yourgame to go off the day you release it, don’t get upset that you only got 10downloads on day one. Be happy that you did it, that you let your game out inthe world.Everything will pay off but don’t justthink you’ll get super popular, popularity takes time and just happens. Don’tgo crazy on being popular, rather think of the main reason you want to createthat story.

Popular =/= happiness, it’s nice to havepeople caring about your work, just don’t have it all go to your head andstress yourself out into a perfectionist cycle.

Trynot to compare yourself to others:

This is something I’m familiar with, comparingyourself to other devs or games and bashing yourself because “why can’t I bethat good”. Please understand this:

YOU ARE YOU!

I mean this you are you, don’t look at othersand put yourself down since what I learn is that there always someone behindyou looking up to you. You think you are the worst but there’s people who findyour work amazing. Your work is blind to yourself because you see it every day,but to someone else its amazing.

You must be you, not like dev x and devy. You can be inspired by them but don’t doubt yourself on how you can’t do thingslike them.

EVERYONE CAN DRAW AND CAN-DO THINGS. It’s the matter of learning the skill to getbetter at it. Art is a skill not a talent, its something you master and keepgetting better at. Same with being a dev you get exp points and you level up.Like a rpg tbh since you get exp and level up the more you practice a skill.

Learnto take feedback:

When someone gives you feedback on yourgame there are different types which I won’t cover all of them. Just know youare letting your game out in the public eye, you will have people who tell youthey like your game and others who tell you they didn’t enjoy it. If its civilthat’s A-Okay, since its their opinion.

You will get feedback that is critiques whichisn’t a bad thing, just understand if it’s someone who is just saying “Yourgame sucks” or “The protag looks weird” without context, this isn’t a critique.Don’t censor critiques btw, like if people are pointing out things like thegame has plot holes or things that are feedback that can help your work. Don’tyell at them or shut them down, take the advice. Just because the player doesn’tmake games don’t mean they can’t give you feedback.

Feedback is free and helpful so take all you can get from it.

Justdo it:

I canlist everything about being a dev, but this is what I can say to you, just doit. If you are passionate about wanting to create a game just do it. Once Iheard about rpg maker games I didn’t ask anyone I just dive head first into it.OvO/ It’s amazing now that people can ask other devs things like this about howto get into making games.

Beinga dev =/= an alien. No, we are just people who have a huge passionate in storytelling,art, music, games, etc. Making games is a media that lets a person get to seethe world in the eyes of the character.

Withrpg maker it makes it easier for people to get into game making which helpsthem get into another engine. It doesn’t matter if you are making a rpg makerbattle system, a spooky horror game, a walking simulator, etc. Make the gameyou dream of making and just do it.

Everythingin the world has been done before, but just take your spin at it, make a gameyou enjoy and don’t let others put you down since you want to make a game abouta young sweet female protag that wakes up in a strange world but can’t rememberwho they are. Just make the game you want to make.

— BASICS.

▸ IS YOUR MUSE TALL / SHORT / AVERAGE ? ...he’s on the shorter side, though I guess not that far off average for mobians/hedgehogs. definitely short compared to humans though, and tiny for a Black Arms. he appears a bit taller than he actually is, though, because his shoes give him two inches. he’s 3′4″ with them on, 3′2″ without

▸ ARE THEY OKAY WITH THEIR HEIGHT ?

yea. i mean i feel like he’s been enduring a bit more teasing than usual lately because of it, but it’s not something that bugs him past that. he spent several years on the ARK where everything was built for humans so he got very used to dealing with his smaller size, climbing on counters and shelves to reach stuff, looking up at people, things like that. his size definitely doesn’t feel like a problem in human environments, let alone mobians’

▸ WHAT’S THEIR HAIR FUR LIKE ?

very versatile, much like his incessant quilling his fur is constantly adapting to change, mostly in temperature, growing longer when it’s cold, thicker when it’s rainy, shedding when it’s warm and so on. it always has a decent enough layer though, you can never see skin beneath his black fur unless it’s been ripped/burnt/cut off, so I guess in that sense its default state is considerably more furnished than that of the average hedgehog

his thicker white fur follows the same kind of behavior, it grows wider in winter to cover most of his upper body and throat and essentially serves as a natural scarf so he can breathe okay even when he’s dashing against sub-zero winds, and it sheds back down to a small patch that barely covers his chest in summer to reduce risks of overheating

▸ DO THEY SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THEIR HAIR / GROOMING ?

not... really ? I’d say he settles for a quick but thorough daily shower, he’s not one for grooming much past that because he already sheds like crazy and that would speed up the process even more ? if anything, he might pat down his white fur a bit because it really fluffs up when it air-dries

▸ DOES YOUR MUSE CARE ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE / WHAT OTHERS THINK ?

he didn’t for a long time, but I think learning his color scheme was due to Black Arms genes may have changed that a little; he doesn’t like the idea of being seen as one of them, that’s why he avoids taking his gloves off around others or show off his teeth much or doesn’t like eating in public, i could go on for a while but basically he didn’t mind his black and red colors and his threatening complex until he learned he got that from man-eating aliens,

over the years i think he’s come to terms with it for the most part because black is real useful on stealth missions and for getting that extra warmth on sunny days and claws can come in real handy sometimes when you’re missing certain tools, but, yeah i think there’s probably still a bit of lingering self-consciousness there

▸ INDOORS OR OUTDOORS ?

hmm I think he has a slight preference for outdoors just because it’s less confined and ever-changing, but he wouldn’t spit on indoors either you know sometimes you just need some place to take a break and where there’s a limited possibility of things that could happen

▸ RAIN OR SUNSHINE ? both. both are addictive when you spent your early life where you could experience neither of those, in fact i’d say those exact two things are responsible for shadow growing/shedding fur out of season because he’s the kind to just stand in the rain when it’s cold or in the sun when it’s hot just because the feeling of rain through his quills or sunshine in his fur will always be like a bit of a novelty to him ▸ FOREST OR BEACH ? hhh f...f.....beach probably. both are fine but i feel like the beach is one of those cliche things maria especially wanted to experience and talked about all the time so he just have a slightly better preconceived idea of it ▸ PRECIOUS METALS OR GEMS ? im just gonna link you to the lucky charm post that should give you a clear idea ▸ FLOWERS OR PERFUMES ? flowers hands down. they’re colorful and pretty and smell good and are natural. maria would have loved them and also earlier this year rouge decorated the whole observatory in the ARK with them to surprise shadow and it was Good ok ▸ PERSONALITY OR APPEARANCE ? personality. yeah people can be nice to look at but if that’s all they got going for them they’re not worth much ▸ BEING ALONE OR BEING IN A CROWD ? alone. i don’t think i have much explaining to do here lmao he’s just not a people person. small groups can be okay and so are a good few people, like, he can deal with a crowd or otherwise large number of people in one place but he’s definitely not gonna enjoy it as much as just being alone ▸ ORDER OR ANARCHY ? I think Gerald’s (and therefore his) idea of an ideal world was a place where they’re one and the same ? a world where people are free to do what makes them happy, to not be limited in any way shape or form but where such a freedom would lead to people being selfless and generous enough to not throw it all into chaos ? but given that’s not really something remotely feasible at this point order is probably the best options in his books given what he’s seen some people do once some of their restraints were removed ▸ PAINFUL TRUTHS OR WHITE LIES ?

painful truths. unless it concerns him revealing stuff about himself that he just doesn’t want people to know about, he’s always gonna be blunt with people and he expects the same courtesy in return. shadow’s sick of all the lies and insincerity a lot of people go to for no good reason and he’d rather you just tell him the truth head-on

▸ SCIENCE OR MAGIC ? chaos energy is where it’s at. i don’t know what it counts as, i’m assuming it’s something between the two ? gerald, tails, eggman and probably a whole lot of other people managed to harness it to create life or power machinery and such, so it can be useful in terms of science, but it’s also something so unstable and unquantifiable and tricky to control or even understand, and being able to do so is considered a power instead of knowledge - which makes it sound more like magic. either way, that’s what shadow believes in and relies on - not that i expect that to be a surprise to anyone, considering ▸ PEACE OR CONFLICT ? he strives for peace but i don’t think he’d know what to do with himself if that was ever achieved tbh ▸ NIGHT OR DAY ?

- the countless hours spent in the observatory with maria - early team dark times when he had good enough days to just focus on his goal and not worry about everything else, probably mostly around grand metropolis/casino park hours, when they were starting to be a proper team but things hadn’t gotten too serious/difficult yet - when a certain hedgehog came back to life and immediately turned to him and silver for additional help. i’ll go into this more some other time but let’s just say that meant a great deal to him - that crush 40 concert rouge took him and omega to - quite a few simple moments spent with his team that wouldn’t have looked like much to many others but that he remembers clearly feeling fulfilled and happy right then and there - a certain night when things felt Bad and a certain hedgehog showed up and made them feel good again - spraining zero’s wrist

▸ IS IT EASY FOR YOUR MUSE TO KILL ?

if we’re talking physically, yes. if we’re talking emotionally,

not as much as he makes it look like honestly. death is something very permanent that has been the cause of possibly the biggest trauma he’s experienced in his life - he does not take that lightly and does not inflict it when he sees an alternative. episode shadow in forces can go suck a lemon

▸ WHAT’S IT LIKE WHEN YOUR MUSE BREAKS DOWN ?

hhh it’s. difficult. but it’s definitely something team dark has earned at this point. literally all three of them have explicitly proven that they would give up their lives for either of the others so it’s safe to say there’s absolute trust between them now

oh boy it’s bad lmao

shadow is very unfamiliar with the concept of romantic love as a whole so he has no idea how he’s supposed to behave with the subject of his affection. remember that picture where he’s holding sonic’s hand and staring at it and presumably has been doing so for like ten minutes ? yeah

social norms aside what would come naturally to him is a very, very intense protectiveness - that’s his primary response when it comes to anyone he’s attached to and romantic ties would be no different. he would be very defensive of them verbally but also protective-bordering-on-possessive physically

he also pays very close attention, i’ve already said it countless times but he’s an amazing listener and whoever he’s smitten with would likely be someone he could watch and listen to intently for very long periods of time. he’ll never be the most talkative but don’t let that fool you into thinking he won’t enjoy engaging conversations with the person he’s interested in

aside from that i tend to think that shadow would be a very unintentional sap because, again, he’s not familiar with whatever’s considered normal in a relationship. so he’ll be the kind to let the other know he’s thinking of them in various ways or just show up and surprise them with something they might want, all completely shamelessly and like it’s no big deal because if it pleases them why should he hold back ? (of course that’s all in a hypothetical situation where it’s solely between him and his significant other-- if there’s other people involved he’s gonna be a lot more subtle/shy about it if he dares doing anything out of the ordinary at all)

his affection is hard to earn but once you have it he’ll be loyal to you for life honestly

When I was younger, I did this a lot! I have the Spongebob Movie game, a Powerpuff Girls game. A Kim Possible Game. One of those Nick Crossover games. I had a Shrek Game and a lot of spongebob/powerpuff/kim possible games.

I taught my mom how to play COD when I was younger and she actually turned out pretty okay! She also LOVES Mario Kart, and she actually introduced me to it/taught me how to play 64 back when we had a Nintendo 64. We play Double Dash all the time, as it is her favorite. She’s very good.

First game I cried over was Ghost Trick, it’s been a downhill battle ever since with video games.

sonic forces me to analyze the game

this is by no means a full, in depth review of sonic forces. however, since im working on a Forces au i think its only fitting to talk about my personal gripes with the game. just to be clear, i dont hate sonic forces by any means! there are some really neat concepts about it that i enjoy, which ill include my thoughts on as well! though with that said, theres a lot about it that could have been dealt with better. this post is gonna be a bit long and messy, sorry!

now i cant speak for what the gameplay controls itself are like since i havent actually played it with my own hands, so my primary focus will be the story and general format of the game. everything under the cut!

ill start by saying that in hindsight, i think the general premise of the game is actually really neat (had the war framing of the plot not been so overly glorified and bland. more on that below). eggman taking over most of the world is very reminiscent to the initial circumstance of mobius in the early archie sonic publication. it seems especially reflective of the comic in the fact that sonic forces takes place on a planet setting more akin to that of Mobius than that of Sonic’s World/Earth, the difference being the lack of human beings aside from Eggman. while this does somewhat bother me for the fact that it paints an inconsistency with the setting, im also all for the planet being strictly Mobians + Eggman again tbh. the concept of sonic being on earth populated by humans, complete with a mock version of the united states, never really settled well with me. it always felt like just a means to make sonic more relatable, which is true, but not done because it made anything more interesting. a problem that then arises is that the origins of shadow and silver/blaze would be radically different or at least would need some retcon alterations to make sense...but thats a topic for another day

overall, looking past the inconsistency with the setting and its implications, i enjoy how the premise of the game feels like going back to the basics. but even the premise still has its problems...which is never a good sign, and this point practically sealed forces’s fate of inconsistency: the theme of war and how it frames the story is so, so poorly written

starting with whats presented at the beginning of the game, sonic is captured by eggman as a prisoner. if the writing had just left it at that, fine. however, the exposition goes on to say that sonic has been there for six months being tortured...and that tails has completely lost it. again id be fine with this - the theme of war is a darker one so these two events would make sense in this circumstance. however, that tension is just totally lost in a matter of a few episodes. you rescue sonic who is just as cheery and jokey as ever, somehow able to fight a boss despite being supposedly locked away and tortured for six months

of course i understand that its not like they could give sonic ptsd and make him look tortured and weak and so on - but why even mention the torture thing at all? the same problem is apparent with the first cutscene with tails. tails is hardly given enough time to seem like he has "lost it". i will say though that tails WAS given a bit more of an emotional response to work with than sonic overall. particularly when tails is about to be attacked by chaos, and he ducks his head in fear and calls for sonic to help him even though sonic isnt there - i actually enjoyed this small segment bc it does reflect some of what was said about how he reacted to sonics capture (aside from also being across the planet...for seemingly no reason except bc he "lost it" and to get him away from the main group so that classic sonic can appear)

frankly speaking from these two points alone, the games tone just feels kind of confused. its obvious the writers wanted some parts of the darker theme of war...and its also obvious that going all out wasnt gonna be an option bc of the nature of sonic as a character and franchise being about more lighthearted, easier to relate to stories about sonics heroism. which im fine with that being the case; sonic is a hero and more importantly a mascot that profits off of kids being able to relate and look up to. my issue is simply that the premise of this game makes consistent writing kind of doomed from the start if the writers are trying to appeal to both the kids AND older fans. they cant go to the lengths necessary to adequately build the narrative. cant go too dark, cant go too lighthearted, and not finding a balance between to two gives you a confused and bland story

on that note, i personally find the theme of war to be...uncomfortably glorified and unchecked (adding to the tone confusion and blandness). sonic forces is named so because...yknow. armed forces. armies. the whole point of the game is that theres a war going on and youre on the good guy side. i mean its not as if youre fighting against other living creatures, just infinite and eggmans robots, but still. i think what put me off the most is the first comic with the soldier cat. after they save the day, the last lines are "I'll do better. I'll be better. I'll become a real soldier and a real hero." now slap that as the tagline to a united states army corps commercial and suddenly its really...sour tasting

war is just one of those subjects that i think needs to be handled with a bit more care. i mean think about it: the primary gimmick of forces is that you get to make your own character, to be the sonic version of yourself in this world. the plot of the game is that theres a war, and your character joins the resistance to defeat eggman. this game is pretty blatantly glorifying the idea that joining in on a war can make you a REAL soldier, a REAL hero. to some kids, that might sound pretty cool. but theres no nuance to it whatsoever, nothing thought provoking on the subject. no one steps back to be like ‘its good to do good things but wars are tough and not fun, and being a hero isnt everything’. none-a that

now do i think a sonic game could get it into a childs head that they should join the army for real? no, not necessarily. i think its possible, but i think that would also be due to a larger issue of military glorification present in modern culture in general (especially in america). mostly i just find the implications at play with glorifying the theme of war in conjunction to the avatar gimmick to be in poor taste and also entirely avoidable because...

i dont think the war and army framing even had to be a thing. not only is it just so sloppily done in general, with that fact that the supposed soldier forces on the Resistance side are literally never seen on screen except for some dialogue boxes in one episode and the rest of the time only being mentioned through other characters, but i seriously think never saying the words “war” or “army” and not including literal soldiers would have worked just as well and even been the better route. they could have just been like yeah heres eggman taking over the world, heres the resistance fighters that have come together to stop him, they are opposing forces and you play as your avatar to stop eggman - and just leave it at that. it wouldve made the glorification of war less obvious and the handling of the topics at hand appear less confused, appealing to a more lighthearted tone rather than weighing it down with frankly out of place hints to a darker subject of war

finally i wanna talk about the story as it relates to how its told through the game. the plot itself is fairly standard - eggman starts war, captures sonic, takes over planet. you rescue sonic, and together you fight eggman and infinite and ultimately defeat them. thats all good and well even if its cheesy sometimes. the REAL problem is how its executed. a lot of the exposition is given not through cutscenes, but through spoken dialogue with text box subtitles over the episode select screen. and it just feels so...stiff. it doesnt feel like world building, it just feels like being forcefed information with no substance behind it

i get that fully rendered cutscenes throughout can be expensive and time consuming, but shoot id take in-game rendered cut scenes at least. (like in sa, sa2, shadow 2005...) anything that could have provided the world building with a bit more ground to stand on would have been great. sure, there are levels to traverse which look cool...but they dont provide any sense of scale, they dont tell us what the area is like, and more importantly, you never see the other characters who are supposedly on the battlefield "alongside" you in a couple episodes. the storyline from the exposition along sounds like it could be an epic journey - but the way its told with the given game mechanics (i.e.: stage-based gameplay with no open worlds to explore) leaves a lot to be desired

i feel like the stuff explained in the comics should have just been cutscenes or exposition or something to pad out the game a bit. the comics are so short anyways so why just put it in the game? maybe not the first comic about the rando soldier saving the day or w/e...but the comic with silver and knuckles fighting chaos? the comic about infinites origins? all of that could have easily been included. at LEAST the comic with shadow was part of the DLC...but even thats just so gimmicky. they provide important background to the main plot of this game so i really dont understand why it was sidelined to comics and not just included from the beginning

the tension that the exposition already fails to build up is brought down even worse when coupled with the confusing timing of the stage complete screens, where you get your completion rank and see what new character creation items you unlocked. listen, i know immediate gratification for completing the level is important and all...but i swear, having these screens between the end of a boss fight and the cutscene showing what happens to them after being defeated seriously impairs the flow of the game. maybe having it there allows for the cutscene to load up in the background to improve efficiency, but personally id prefer seeing a loading screen as the break between a boss fight and the following cutscene after it and THEN the stage complete screen to finish the sequence off. the boss fight end cutscenes arent that long anyways for the most part, so its just nonsensical to have the stage complete screen interrupt the action when theres only a two minute scene left to it

i cant stand how streamlined forces is to the point of the main plot. what happened to games that actually take the time to explain stuff, show us extra bits to the story and how they connect? and even when forces' does explain SOME stuff, its through audio/text only dialogue. nothing visually interesting, just...dialogue. and then its off to the next level. forces' feels very bare bones honestly. the story is supposed to feel big and epic but it just wasnt given enough to bring that feeling into fruition. this is probably the only thing that saves forces’ from the war glorification issue because the game simply fails so miserably at telling a compelling story due to poor writing and poor formatting that the war stuff gets lost in the mix - and thats just sad

all of this brings me to my conclusion. fuck i wish sonic forces was a better written and executed game, because i do think it could have been so cool. i really like infinite as a villain, in both his design and personality. yeah hes kind of a whiny, edgy bitch - but he had potential. and its really gonna suck if this game killed off all that potential in one fell swoop

(then again, thats why we have fan content and aus :3)
