I mean you'd with the least amount of pressure possible but, would you ever think about writing a book? Every once and a while I remember how it felt reading Back to Us and I just wish I could read a story that was fully yours.
HAAAAAAA.
Friend.
Let me tell you a story about what was my writing journey post 2020 for me.
As some of you might know, I finished a book at the very end of 2020, by the title of Charlatans. It's an adult novel about three voodoo-touched adult siblings who make Faustian bargains to find their long-missing father in exchange for their hearts' deepest desires.
I was super proud of it. My first full-fledged novel, something I had always known I was capable of doing. The hard part was over.
Or so I thought.
See, to be a GOOD novelist, you have to let your work marinate. So that's what I did: I sat on it for a few months, not touching it at all, not even remembering that it existed. After those few months, I set to the hard work of editing.
When I tell you it is SO hard to edit a book you know is missing SOMETHING, but you have no idea what...ugh. And asking for beta readers was tasking, 'cause the thing was over 90K words. I did still ask, of course, but didn't really manage to get a lot of feedback at that time of editing.
Nevertheless! I pressed on. Started researching literary agents, fully aware that with a single project, you only get ONE shot with each agent.
I had a spreadsheet. I had my query letter. I had detailed notes on who to ask for and why. I was ready.
And so I started querying.
...The agents that didn't straight up ignore me gave me automated rejections. The agents that didn't do that gave me personal rejections.
And the one or two agents that actually bothered to ask AND read the whole manuscript?
They loved it!
Just...not enough to publish it.
So. Here I am, with a fully finished manuscript and no one looking to publish it. What do I do?
I put it away and go back to the drawing board, because clearly, I'm missing something. But since no rejection is personalized enough, I don't know WHAT.
Frustration makes me put it down, and I let it sit for a few more months.
Until #DVPIT.
For the uninitiated, #DVPIT is a literary event in which diverse prospective writers and established agents come together to discover new working relationships. The diverse writer has three chances to pitch their project throughout the day to agents, and if agents like your pitch, you may send them your query package. Cool, right?
I take the day off work. I have my pitches queued on my phone, ready to go. Throughout the day, I strategically post them at peak hours, keeping my fingers crossed for even one single agent's attention.
The event runs for an extra week to give agents a chance to read the thousands of pitches flooding the Discord channel. I wait.
No likes. Not a single one.
Now, this part I'm less bitter about, because 150 characters to describe my book? That's just ridiculous. And the comp titles to prove that people would like it? Ugggggh. Not an opportunity to really sell Charlatans.
But this means that, still, my first novel is without an agent. No agent, no publication.
So I put it away again and decide to move on.
And before you ask, yes, I did look into self-publishing. Still lowkey looking, but it's tough, since everything seems like a scam nowadays. And don't even get me started on the AI books being published.
I know you didn't ask for this rant, @hydrogen-ann and for that, I apologize. But TL;DR: a published book is currently a pipe dream for me, though not for lack of trying.
Bitterness aside, thank you so, so much. I'm so happy you'd be interested in something original of mine. If I ever push Charlatans out the door/find the time to write an entirely NEW novel, I'll be sure to let you know 💜

I love your art!!! What do you think is your style inspiration? I feel like my style/progress has stagnated and I think it's because i don't have much inspo anymore
Tumblr media
sorry for such a late reply; i was trying to formulate a sincere answer!
but for style insp, i think that artists like dana terrace, vewn, and sabertoothwalrus, as well as storyboards for shows like the owl house, are like the biggest insps for me at the moment! i just really love the flow of lines and dynamicness of the character poses, which is smth im trying to emulate in my art. plus all their individual styles are so goshdarned gorgeous. love the way these artists do their lines and colors so u should check them out (if you havent heard of them already lol! im pretty sure theyre all really well known)
also do not be so hard on yourself to "improve" and such. i know this is easier said than done but truly enjoying yourself and at the very least getting your point across (even if you think the art is sub par (tho tbh ppl viewing it will think its awesome)) is so much better than having something that looks "perfect"

(cw discussion of sexual harassment/assault and suicide) Ann Takamaki vs Mikuru Asahina feels like hydrogen bomb vs hydrogen bomb but I really want to emphasize how bad Ann's in-game treatment feels when the start of the game is taken into account. The first enemy in the game is a high school volleyball coach who leverages his status as a former Olympian to do whatever he wants at the school, including physically assaulting male students and sexually harassing female students. He tries to get sexual favors from Ann in exchange for keeping her best friend on the school volleyball team, though she's able to keep it so she just has to be seen with him instead, resulting in rumors that she's sleeping with him. When he demands she sleep with him, she doesn't show up and he "punishes her" by sexually assaulting her best friend instead, which results in her best friend attempting suicide (she lives thankfully). You spend hours of the game trying to take down this man who treats Ann like she exists purely for his own pleasure...and then you get to the next villain and the characters who helped Ann defeat her abuser are now telling her she should strip and consent to a nude painting because they need a distraction, even though she's super uncomfortable with this! The game overall just loves to treat Ann as 'the sexy one' despite including a whole arc about how fucked up and creepy it is for her to be sexualized by an adult man. The 'comic relief' sidekick of the game is "in love" with Ann and constantly making advances or weird comments towards her, the boys check her out while she's sweating through her clothes even though she's clearly uncomfortable, it just keeps going on. For a game about rebelling and challenging the status quo, it sure has no issue with treating a teenage sexual harassment victim as easy fanservice and never calling out the male main characters for continuing the cycle of sexual harassment that it punishes its villains for taking part in (small victories I guess....).
Ann deserved better. Justice for Ann!

Portrait of Monsieur de Lavoisier and his Wife, chemist Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze (1788), Metropolitan Museum of Art:
-De Lavoisier was central to the 18th-century chemical revolution and greatly influenced the history of chemistry and biology.
-He recognized and named oxygen (1778) and hydrogen (1783) & wrote the law of conservation of mass in 1783.
-Lavoisier helped construct the metric system, wrote the first extensive list of elements, and helped to reform chemical nomenclature.
-He predicted the existence of silicon (1787) and discovered that, although matter may change its form or shape, its mass always remains the same.
- At the height of the French Revolution, he was charged with tax fraud and selling adulterated tobacco, and was guillotined.

Hundred-year storms on Saturn
The largest storm in the solar system, a 10,000-mile-wide anticyclone called the Great Red Spot, has decorated Jupiter's surface for hundreds of years.
A new study now shows that Saturn — though much blander and less colorful than Jupiter — also has long-lasting megastorms with impacts deep in the atmosphere that persist for centuries.
The study was conducted by astronomers from the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, who looked at radio emissions from the planet, which come from below the surface, and found long-term disruptions in the distribution of ammonia gas.
The study was published today (Aug. 11) in the journal Science Advances.
Megastorms occur approximately every 20 to 30 years on Saturn and are similar to hurricanes on Earth, although significantly larger. But unlike Earth's hurricanes, no one knows what causes megastorms in Saturn's atmosphere, which is composed mainly of hydrogen and helium with traces of methane, water and ammonia.
“Understanding the mechanisms of the largest storms in the solar system puts the theory of hurricanes into a broader cosmic context, challenging our current knowledge and pushing the boundaries of terrestrial meteorology,” said lead author Cheng Li, a former 51 Peg b Fellow at UC Berkeley who is now an assistant professor at the University of Michigan.
Imke de Pater, a UC Berkeley professor emerita of astronomy and of earth and planetary sciences, has been studying gas giants for over four decades to better understand their composition and what makes them unique, employing the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array in New Mexico to probe the radio emissions from deep inside the planet.
“At radio wavelengths, we probe below the visible cloud layers on giant planets. Since chemical reactions and dynamics will alter the composition of a planet’s atmosphere, observations below these cloud layers are required to constrain the planet’s true atmospheric composition, a key parameter for planet formation models,” she said. “Radio observations help characterize dynamical, physical and chemical processes including heat transport, cloud formation and convection in the atmospheres of giant planets on both global and local scales.”
As reported in the new study, de Pater, Li and UC Berkeley graduate student Chris Moeckel found something surprising in the radio emissions from the planet: anomalies in the concentration of ammonia gas in the atmosphere, which they connected to the past occurrences of megastorms in the planet’s northern hemisphere.
According to the team, the concentration of ammonia is lower at midaltitudes, just below the uppermost ammonia-ice cloud layer, but has become enriched at lower altitudes, 100 to 200 kilometers deeper in the atmosphere. They believe that the ammonia is being transported from the upper to the lower atmosphere via the processes of precipitation and reevaporation. What’s more, that effect can last for hundreds of years.
The study further revealed that although both Saturn and Jupiter are made of hydrogen gas, the two gas giants are remarkably dissimilar. While Jupiter does have tropospheric anomalies, they have been tied to its zones (whitish bands) and belts (darkish bands) and are not caused by storms like they are on Saturn. The considerable difference between these neighboring gas giants is challenging what scientists know about the formation of megastorms on gas giants and other planets and may inform how they’re found and studied on exoplanets in the future.
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is a facility of the National Science Foundation, operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities Inc.
TOP IMAGE....A huge storm dominates the rather featureless surface of Saturn in an image taken by the Cassini spacecraft on Feb. 25, 2011, about 12 weeks after the powerful storm was first detected in the planet's northern hemisphere. The megastorm is seen overtaking itself as it encircles the entire planet. Astronomers have found deep in the atmosphere the aftereffects of megastorms that occurred hundreds of years ago. The dark stripes are the shadows of Saturn's rings. CREDIT NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute
CENTRE IMAGE....In the optical, Saturn's banded atmosphere appears to smoothly shift from color to color. But seen here in radio light — VLA data overlays a Cassini image of Saturn — the distinct nature of the bands is apparent. Scientists used VLA data to better understand ammonia in the gas giant's atmosphere and learned that megastorms transport the ammonia from the upper to the lower atmosphere. CREDIT S. Dagnello (NRAO/AUI/NSF), I. de Pater et al (UC Berkeley)
LOWER IMAGE....Radio image of Saturn taken with the VLA in May 2015, with the brighter radio emissions from Saturn and its rings subtracted to enhance the contrast in the fainter radio emissions between the various latitudinal bands in the atmosphere. Since ammonia blocks radio waves, the bright features indicate areas where ammonia is depleted and the VLA could see deeper in the atmosphere. The broad bright band at northern latitudes is the aftermath of the 2010 storm on Saturn, which apparently depleted ammonia gas just below the ammonia-ice cloud, which is what we see with the naked eye. i'm seeing several people on my dash engaging in discussion about nuclear policy (oh good, but what, why now, did i miss something, etc) and i would like to encourage two things:
discuss facts or events, not the whole concept in vague and broad strokes (it's easier)
accept that many facts and events regarding nuclear policy are ambiguous or unknown (it's inevitable)
examples of facts and events:
holtec is the only manufacturer of casks; holtec casks are flawed, cracking, and leaking.
hanford is the worst waste site because it has extremely high level waste beyond what is typically considered "high level" (spent fuel rods), because they rushed the cleanup for a million dollar cleanup payout, because they dumped wastewater into the ground, because the wastewater dumping was the subject of peabody award winning journalism, because the director of the site resigned in 2017 (anne white).
there was recently a nuclear bribery scandal in ohio.
san onofre decommissioning has been fraught with resale upon resale to various corporations trying to turn a profit off abdicating responsibilities for waste handling.
design proposals were never able to foresee the scale of sea salp blooms under climate change, which has led to several shutdowns from clogged intakes at sites that rely on the ocean for cooling water.
yucca mountain was cancelled and there are no longterm repositories in the united states. there are also no interim-term storage sites; PFS in goshen utah was cancelled and two are currently under review. interim sites require shipment on trucks across the interstate highway system twice; once from reactor to interim and again from interim to longterm -- none of which, again, exist.
70% of high level waste is uncasked and continually reracked in cooling pools where the rods were spent, the NRC is continually rubber-stamping approval for storage extension for these sites without additional environmental review despite the additional risk.
the united states has abicated responsibility for bikini atoll dome cleanup after failing to pay out reparations as promised to the united nations (these were paid to a trust which is now empty, despite most of the beneficiaries having not received the reparations they were promised for the sacrifice of the marshall islands as a munitions testing site for the hydrogen bomb)
there are hundreds of abandoned uranium mills and mines across the continental united states.
bill gates owns terrapower.
examples of ambiguities and unknowns:
the SL-1 meltdown is typically not accounted for in reviews of nuclear power's "safety record" because it was classified for decades. we will never know whether it was an accident or intentional sabotage by operators
karen silkwood either committed suicide or was murdered by a sandwich containing polonium. she was a former anti-nuclear activist who accepted a job at a reactor
why did anne white resign
how prevalent is cancer among workers at hanford, is this the greatest risk, or is non-nuclear toxic waste a greater risk to cleanup workers
what is the total risk over the whole term of waste storage
have we made an adequate risk assessment if design specifications are not being met (such as aforementioned flawed casks, uncasked waste, further future unpredictable or unforeseeable events such as the sea salps, or the ambiguous possibility of SL-1's intentional operator sabotage)
what language, if any, will be spoken by the final handlers of the waste we generate today
what is the plan for cleanup if the united states collapses before it handles its waste, are we just planning to abandon a hundred reactor sites and several hundred more mills and mines, or what
how many radiation monitors near nuclear munitions test sites are openly available to the public (this one is a trick question, the answer is "none," it's neither ambiguous nor unknown, but many people appeal to their presence without checking whether they're accessible)

Just Like You, Chapter 8

Tumblr media
Brendan hissed in pain as I dabbed his cut with more hydrogen peroxide.  I gave him a look and he frowned, the lines in his forehead becoming more prominent, “those lines will become permanent one day you know…with the way you keep frowning like that.”
“I’m fine…”
“If you were fine, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt like this.”
“Shit…Faith, I don’t ne-“
But he stopped himself when he saw the deadly look I was giving him.  I had been calm and quiet on the outside, but on the inside, I was a raging storm.  Internally, I was torn apart, over how things had progressed between Brendan and Penny.
Over how close they had gotten.
In how he had let himself get carried away in his own fantasies.
In how easily he had seemed to forget my very existence.
I knew that I was just his girlfriend, not even his wife, but still.  We had an understanding.  We both had a similar lifestyle and could understand one another on a level that not even he and Ann could.  I knew that he had brought in Ann on his little endeavors, but with he and I it was different.  Our children knew what we were about even before they could truly understand that it was taboo.
“She meant nothing.”
“You said that already.”
He shuddered when I gave him another look.
“I mean it.”
“You don’t cook for a woman and bring her flowers because you can, Brendan,” I said without any emotion in my voice.  I fought to keep my emotions under control as I pictured the scene from when I’d found him.  The flowers were fresh, which meant he’d had to have gotten them that day.  And the food was gourmet.  I knew he’d spent time on it.  It wasn’t a simple hookup.  I picked up the needle and began stitching his cut shut.  I felt an internal tick mark being struck, the pride filling my belly as I knew I was giving him a little of the pain he’d caused me by doing what he did.  He winced as I hadn’t bothered to use any type of anesthetic on him, “you were planning on having sex with her.”
“I’ve had sex with some of the others…”
“Not in this house you haven’t,” I led, trying to point out why I was upset without actually having to say it.  My breath caught in my chest as the words processed and I glared at him, “have you-have you had sex with them here?”
He shook his head, “n-not once they’re here…no…”
“Why now?”
His steely gaze flickered up to mine and he sighed, grabbing my hand to stop the stitching on his brow, “do you love me, Faith?”
“That’s a stupid question to ask, Brendan…”
“Is it?” he asked softly, “Because ever since we’ve had Lily…before this, you mostly ignored me.  I mean…we spend time together…but it feels like we aren’t on the same page that we were on before we had her or even Brayden.”
“Do you want me to pretend that I’m alright with our relationship, Brendan?” I asked softly, cutting the stitches and tying them off.  I tried to distance myself further from the situation by moving back a little.  He frowned, “or do you want me to be honest?”
“I always want you to be honest with me, Faith.”
“I can’t be happy when we’re like this,” I told him truthfully, gesturing at the distance between us as a reference to the situation, “I can’t be happy in our relationship knowing that Ann has this hold over you.  Knowing that there is someone that has you by the balls behind a screen that is powerful.  Knowing that you don’t want me.”
“I want you…”
“You almost had sex with Penny.  I was here…in the very next room.  Y-you don’t love me like you claim that you do…I’m just a novelty that’s not as pretty as I was before we had our children.  I’m a relic to you, Brendan,” I reminded him.   He sighed and looked away from me.  But I grabbed his jaw, “tell me that you’re still in love with me.   That you still feel those same things that you felt the night I had you on my table…”
“I-I can’t…”
It felt like my heart broke as he said the words aloud.  I took a shuddering deep breath and took a step back from him.  Nodding my head, I turned away from him.
“Tell me you still feel the same about me…that you don’t have any hang-ups about our relationship.  That you still feel the same as the night that I was on your table…hell, the night we met.”
“I’ve never stopped loving you, Brendan…but one of us had to focus on our children and make sure that someone was there for them,” I sighed sadly, a tear finding its way down my cheek, “and I knew that it wasn’t going to be you…so I blocked off my emotions…because it’s harder to be hurt if the person who isn’t ever there doesn’t mean as much…but I never stopped loving you.”
“Faith…”
“I want you to know that the only reason I didn’t let them escape, the only reason I stopped them, is because of our children,” I pointed out, “they were upstairs.  They don’t need to lose both of their parents.  If Penny saw them…neither one of us would have ever seen them again and you know it.”
“Faith, I-“
“I’m done, Brendan…keep the house for all I care…but I’m leaving…me and the kids…we need to get away for a while…”
“Baby…don’t leave me,” he said sadly, sitting up on the medical table.  I shook my head as he threw his legs over and attempted to jump down, but his body crumpled beneath him.  His brows furrowed as he looked up at me, shock written across his features, “Faith…wh-what did you do, baby?”
“I knew you would try to come after me…knew that if I told you what I was doing you’d try to stop us,” I sighed quietly, “and I don’t do liabilities, Brendan…you know that.  I’m not going to eat you…but I’m not staying either…I-I can’t let you put the kids in danger.”
“Faith…don’t do this…” he said quickly, his tone coming across more like a wounded animal than a forceful demand, “what about Brayden?  And Lily?  What will they say when you-“
“Brayden knows,” I admitted, “I-I told him after you fell asleep from the sedative…Lily is still young…and you haven’t been there a whole lot for her…she won’t have any issues.  This is goodbye, Brendan.”
“FAITH!” he yelled loudly as I began walking away.  I could hear him pulling himself forward on his arms, the tranquilizer keeping his lower half paralyzed for the time being, “FAITH DON’T DO THIS.”
“I’m sorry, Brendan…”
Tumblr media
“It’s your fault that she’s gone,” Brendan groaned as he looked at the sedated Penny, “she left me and it’s all your fault.  I didn’t have a choice…”
Penny looked up at him, barely aware of the situation.  Her eyes were unable to focus on the man as he shed a few tears.  She went to reach up, seeing a zig-zag above him, but her arms were strapped to the table.
“Wha-what’s going on?”
“You took her from me,” Brendan growled, glaring at Penny, “I loved her…she was so good to me…and she’s gone…”
“M-Marie?”
“Marie is dead!” Brendan seethed, picking up the bone saw, “you won’t ever see her again…it’s just you and Melissa…”
“M-Melissa.”
“But you know the rules,” Brendan sighed, “if you misbehave, I have to take something away from you…and you were very, very bad Penny.”
“S-stop…stop!” she begged, when she heard the bone saw start up and Brendan started his operation.
“Oh Penny,” he sighed to himself, “you know…we were working on our relationship…and it was almost there…I was just trying to get the fire into her.  I was trying to get her to see me…to see that I could be there for her.  But you had to go and ruin it.  You had to take her away from me…so for now…I’m going to take something important away from you…I was thinking both legs…but that’s not nice.  And I don’t want to freeze you…no…buyers deserve fresh meat.  That’s what they pay for after all.  But as for you…I’m a nice guy…not that you would know.  You never gave me that chance to show you.”
“P-please!” she cried, listening to the horrifying noise of her bone being split and the muscle and tendon slipping away from the rest of her body.  She couldn’t feel it, but she was coherent enough to know what was going on as she begged him to stop tearing her apart, “stop!”
“I loved her…” he growled as the saw skittered against the metal table, letting him know that he’d completed the task of cutting off Penny’s leg, “I loved her…and she just walked right out of my life…don’t worry though…you won’t be able to do that…you’re here with me until I decide you’re done…just like Melissa.”

Jacques Alexandre César Charles
Tumblr media
Portrait by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard
November 12, 1746 – April 7, 1823 was a French inventor, scientist, mathematician, and balloonist. Charles wrote almost nothing about mathematics, and most of what has been credited to him was due to mistaking him with another Jacques Charles, also a member of the Paris Academy of Sciences, entering on May 12, 1785. He was sometimes called Charles the Geometer. Charles and the Robert brothers launched the world's first unmanned hydrogen-filled gas balloon in August 1783; then in December 1783, Charles and his co-pilot Nicolas-Louis Robert ascended to a height of about 1,800 feet (550 m) in a manned gas balloon. Their pioneering use of hydrogen for lift led to this type of balloon being named a Charlière as opposed to a Montgolfière which used hot air.
Charles's law, describing how gases tend to expand when heated, was formulated by Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac in 1802, but he credited it to unpublished work by Jacques Charles.
Charles was elected to the Académie des Sciences in 1795 and subsequently became professor of physics at the Académie de Sciences.
Tumblr media
The balloon built by Jacques Charles and the Robert brothers
Charles conceived the idea that hydrogen would be a suitable lifting agent for balloons having studied the work of Robert Boyle's Boyle's Law which was published 100 years earlier in 1662, and of his contemporaries Henry Cavendish, Joseph Black and Tiberius Cavallo. He designed the craft and then worked in conjunction with the Robert brothers, Anne-Jean and Nicolas-Louis, to build it in their workshop at the Place des Victoires in Paris. The brothers invented the methodology for the lightweight, airtight gas bag by dissolving rubber in a solution of turpentine and varnished the sheets of silkthat were stitched together to make the main envelope. They used alternate strips of red and white silk, but the discolouration of the varnishing/rubberising process left a red and yellow result.
Jacques Charles and the Robert brothers launched the world's first hydrogen filled balloon on August 27, 1783, from the Champ de Mars, (now the site of the Eiffel Tower) where Ben Franklin was among the crowd of onlookers. The balloon was comparatively small, a 35 cubic metre sphere of rubberised silk, and only capable of lifting about 9 kg (20 lb).  It was filled with hydrogen that had been made by pouring nearly a quarter of a tonne of sulphuric acid onto a half a tonne of scrap iron. The hydrogen gas was fed into the balloon via lead pipes; but as it was not passed through cold water, great difficulty was experienced in filling the balloon completely (the gas was hot when produced, but as it cooled in the balloon, it contracted).
Charles developed several useful inventions, including a valve to let hydrogen out of the balloon and other devices, such as the hydrometer and reflecting goniometer, and improved the Graves and heliostat and Fahrenheit's aerometer. In addition he confirmed Benjamin Franklin's electrical experiments.
Charles's law (also known as the law of volumes), describing how gases tend to expand when heated, was first published by natural philosopher Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac in 1802, but he credited it to unpublished work by Jacques Charles, and named the law in his honour.
Around 1787 Charles did an experiment where he filled 5 balloons to the same volume with different gases. He then raised the temperature of the balloons to 80 °C (not at constant temperature) and noticed that they all increased in volume by the same amount. This experiment was referenced by Gay-Lussac in 1802 when he published a paper on the precise relationship between the volume and temperature of a gas. Charles' law states that under constant pressure, an ideal gas' volume is proportional to its absolute temperature. The volume of a gas at constant pressure increases linearly with the absolute temperature of the gas. The formula he created was V1/T1 = V2/T2.

I'd love to hear about your Marvel OC if you want to share!
So her name is Peggy Barnes-Rogers and she exists in my Marvel Universe I made up called Earth 904, which has elements of the MCU, comics, and animated series. Basically me just taking whatever I liked from each.
She came to be after Striker Labs kidnapped Jean Grey and tried to clone her, because in my universe the Phoenix Force can be passed on through offspring (or in this case, genetic material). Jean Grey escaped and didn't realize they had her genetic material. But they did.
For years they worked on creating clones of Jean Grey, and they were finally successful. They created a few viable embryos and incubated them in a lab until they were fully formed fetuses, almost ready to be born.
Then, the Avengers found the new lab site and invaded it. In the process, the lab began to burn, and only one incubation tube survived. It cracked, and fell open, and all the embryonic fluid leaked out, and the newborn baby took her first breaths.
Now, the Avengers had a newborn baby on their hands, with no idea what kind of powers or lineage she had. All they knew was that they found her in an evil science lab, so who knows what it could have been. They also know they can't just let this baby become another lab rat.
Meanwhile, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes were married and happy. Bucky's younger sister, Becky, just passed away, and Bucky talks about how he had always had a parental streak, and how he had raised his younger siblings at times. He mentions that before WW2, he'd always wanted to be a father.
So, it was like a match made in heaven.
Here's this baby, with potential superpowers or alien powers or who knows what, and two former Avengers who know how to handle superpowered beings, and also want to be parents.
Steve and Bucky adopt the baby and name her Peggy, after Peggy Carter.
Peggy grows and indeed, she does have superpowers. She's the new host of the Phoenix Force. She has all the powers Jean Grey has, but because she grew up in a supportive environment that prepared her for what life she may live, the Phoenix Force didn't overtake her, nor become destructive like it did with Jean Grey.
Peggy joins the X Men when she's older, and eventually forms her own team with Erika, Magneto's granddaughter; Kiara and Tana, T'Challa and Storm's daughters; Helena, Baron Zemo's daughter; Stella, Magneto's granddaughter; and Anne, Tony Stark's daughter. (Anne later leaves and becomes a villain known as the Iron Maiden).
Later, Peggy discovers that the Phoenix Force is only one of four Forces, which take on the forms of the four chemical elements of life. The three other hosts of the Forces are Celeste, Emma Frost's clone, who is the host of the Diamond Force [Carbon]; Sooraya Qadir (Dust), who is the host of the Earth Force [Nitrogen] ; and Tana of Wakanda, who is the host of the Water Force [Hydrogen] (the same Force in Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire, because in my universe Storm is descended of Queen Kida). The Phoenix Force is representative of Oxygen.
Peggy, Sooraya, Tara, and Celeste learn that the Four Elemental Forces were meant to be the guardians of life, and that the four are most powerful when they are together and fight as one. Thus, whenever there is a cataclysmic threat, the four join forces.
Peggy eventually gets a younger brother, Jürgen/Jamie, an alien hybrid of a Titan and an Asgardian who was rejected from both societies because he was a hybrid of the commonly enemy societies.
Peggy's girlfriend is Kiara of Wakanda, who is the new Black Panther after reclaiming her throne from Shuri, who expelled Kiara and Tina from Wakanda when they were children after starting a coup that assassinated T'Challa and Storm.
Peggy, Tana, Kiara, Jürgen, Anne, Helena, Stella, and more have been OCs of mine for a very, very long time. Obviously their stories are looks have evolved as I have grown, but the basic essence of them remains the same.

Is water a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen?
In theory, it is easy to make water from hydrogen gas and oxygen gas. Mix the two gases together, add a spark or enough heat to provide the activation energy to start the reaction, and add presto-instant water. However, simply mixing two gases at room temperature will do nothing, just as the hydrogen and oxygen molecules in air do not spontaneously form.
Author: Anne Marie Helmenstein, Ph.D.
5.1: Hydrogen, Oxygen and Water - Chemistry Textbook
Apr 19, 2023 · The oxygen atom pulls the electrons of the 0-H bond towards itself, gaining a slight negative charge and leaving small positive charges on the two hydrogen atoms. Therefore water can interact with other polar molecules. In addition, water molecules dissociate to some extent into H+ and OH- ions, a property that is important in acid-bases.
How do hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water?
Feb 11, 2023 · When two hydrogen atoms combine with an oxygen atom to form a water molecule, each hydrogen atom donates one of its electrons to the oxygen atom, resulting in 10 electrons instead of eight for oxygen. . But if the hydrogen atom no longer has a single electron, is it still a hydrogen atom?
Oxyhydrogen - Wikipedia
Oxyhydrogen is a mixture of hydrogen (H 2) and oxygen (O 2) gases. This gaseous mixture is used for torches to process refractory materials and was the first gaseous mixture used for welding. Theoretically, a 2:1 hydrogen:oxygen ratio is sufficient to achieve maximum efficiency; In practice a ratio of 4:1 or 5:1 is required to avoid oxidation flame.
What happens when hydrogen and oxygen meet? , Science
Apr 30, 2018 · Hydrogen and oxygen will combine to form water – and release lots of heat in the process. Mixture of Hydrogen and Oxygen Hydrogen and oxygen gases mix at room temperature without any chemical reaction. This is because the motion of the molecules does not provide enough kinetic energy to activate the reaction during collisions between the reactants.
This means that water is easily formed by combining oxygen and hydrogen.

Libby Spotlight: New eAudiobooks
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett (read by Meryl Streep)
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.
Tom Lake is a meditation on youthful love, married love, and the lives parents have led before their children were born. Both hopeful and elegiac, it explores what it means to be happy even when the world is falling apart.
American Prometheus by Kai Bird & Martin J. Sherwin (read by Jeff Cummings)
American Prometheus is a full-scale biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, "father of the atomic bomb," the brilliant, charismatic physicist who led the effort to capture the awesome fire of the sun for his country in time of war. Immediately after Hiroshima, he became the most famous scientist of his generation - one of the iconic figures of the twentieth century, the embodiment of modern man confronting the consequences of scientific progress.
He was the author of a radical proposal to place international controls over atomic materials - an idea that is still relevant today. He opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb and criticized the Air Force's plans to fight an infinitely dangerous nuclear war. In the now almost-forgotten hysteria of the early 1950s, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup, and, in response, Atomic Energy Commission chairman Lewis Strauss, Superbomb advocate Edward Teller and FBI director J. Edgar Hoover worked behind the scenes to have a hearing board find that Oppenheimer could not be trusted with America's nuclear secrets.
American Prometheus sets forth Oppenheimer's life and times in revealing and unprecedented detail. Exhaustively researched, it is based on thousands of records and letters gathered from archives in America and abroad, on massive FBI files and on close to a hundred interviews with Oppenheimer's friends, relatives, and colleagues.
Pageboy by Elliot Page (read by Elliot Page)
“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.
With Juno’s massive success, Elliot became one of the world’s most beloved actors. His dreams were coming true, but the pressure to perform suffocated him. He was forced to play the part of the glossy young starlet, a role that made his skin crawl, on and off set. The career that had been an escape out of his reality and into a world of imagination was suddenly a nightmare.
As he navigated criticism and abuse from some of the most powerful people in Hollywood, a past that snapped at his heels, and a society dead set on forcing him into a binary, Elliot often stayed silent, unsure of what to do. Until enough was enough.
Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher (read by Jennifer Blom)
There's a princess trapped in a tower. This isn't her story.
Meet Toadling. On the day of her birth, she was stolen from her family by the fairies, but she grew up safe and loved in the warm waters of faerieland. Once an adult though, the fae ask a favor of Toadling: return to the human world and offer a blessing of protection to a newborn child. Simple, right?
But nothing with fairies is ever simple.
Centuries later, a knight approaches a towering wall of brambles, where the thorns are as thick as your arm and as sharp as swords. He's heard there's a curse here that needs breaking, but it's a curse Toadling will do anything to uphold…

⧼   go min si, cis woman, she & her   /   dead girl in the pool by girl in red + once upon a time, 호랑이 담배 피우던 시절에, latha bha seo, a gallant king and beautiful queen long thought to be barren finally welcomed three bonny daughters and their kingdom rejoiced with the ringing of the bells. the king held a christening feast unlike any seen before and invited the three fairies in the land to join in the celebrations, secretly hoping that they would bestow the most magical gifts upon his children. a great storm rolled in on the eve that the owls were sent to deliver the invitations and one was blown off course ; it was a harmless mistake. the youngest fairy stepped forward as the eldest child was presented to court and bowed low. "this princess," she proclaimed, "will be wealthy in wisdom." the king and queen, of course, thanked her greatly. the middle fairy stepped forward as the middle child was presented to court and bowed lower. "this princess," she said, "will have the courage to change." the king and queen, of course, thanked her profusely. only when the youngest child was presented and the eldest fairy was nowhere to be seen did the king and queen realise the blunder, with the dawning horror that there would be no more gifts to give. "this princess," the eldest fairy might've announced, "will be the fairest of them all." i say might because, of course, the eldest fairy found herself busy elsewhere on that particular day. this is the part of the story where everything goes wrong. fairytales always have rules ; if one princess is clever and the other is brave, the last will almost always be doomed. sorry - beautiful. but also doomed.   /   INTERLUDE #1 : anne carson wrote, "a golden flower of a girl; a precarious girl."   /   spoiler alert : that girl is going to die. at least that's what they're saying on the internet. have you ever heard of a little trope called 'fridging'? don't let yourself get too attached to the most unfortunate princess, now, because there's a world of ways in which the narrator can and will take her from you ; a wicked witch burst in to place a rotten curse on her, her mother's love smothered her in her sleep, the goddess of love was in a particularly bad mood that day, a man needed some character development and no one could think of anything better than a slow, painful end for the unlucky lady. god forbid she looks pretty in pictures - extra, extra, read all about it! 'BEAUTY SLAIN!'   /   INTERLUDE #2 : ALWAYS AN ANGEL, NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL, NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL, NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL, NEVER A GOD-   /   even her name tells her what you need to know. derived from the german surname 'astor' or perhaps the name of the titan goddess 'asteria' in greek mythology. from the latin astur, meaning a species of hawk ( a hawk is a predator with good eyesight and a short, hooked beak ; a predator is a creature that hunts, kills and eats other animals, known as prey ; this, to a hawk, would be small birds and rodents easily clasped in the death trap of sharp talons ; this, on second thought, is rather unpleasant to think about, but you can already sort of see the irony ) or the ancient greek aster, meaning star ( a star is an astronomical object comprising a luminous spheroid of plasma born from the gravitational collapse of a gaseous nebula - that's a mouthful, isn't it? try again ; a star is a luminous ball of gas, mostly hydrogen and helium, held together by its own gravity. the sun is the closest star to earth ; the sun is the star at the centre of our solar system ; our solar system is a gravitationally bound system of objects, meaning the planets, circling the sun ; someone told me once that by the time the light of a star reaches us here on earth it's already dead & if the sun ever happened to change its mind about shining and collapse in upon itself then we'd all die, too ; bottom line, they're all beautiful, but doomed. ring a bell? )   /   INTERLUDE #3 : in the words of friedrich nietzche, "you have always approached everything terrible trustfully. you have wanted to pet every monster."   /   the princess wants a better story. who can blame her, right? it begun so promisingly. what if the bells at the start of the story woke a sleeping witch? the storm still rolled in and the owl still got blown off course and the eldest fairy still decided she had something better to do with her time but on the day of the grand christening feast, this witch got curious and wandered into the midst of the celebrations in time to see the king and queen exchange terrified looks. she's a bit rusty, but surely something, maybe even anything, is better than nothing. "this princess," she says, and all eyes turn to look at her, "will have the strength to persevere." still doomed, then, but given a fighting chance. maybe that's the best they could hope for.   /   FINALE : in a dream you saw a way to survive and you were full of joy.   ⧽   ━━   hey, isn’t that ASTORIA GREENGRASS? i read a daily prophet article on them, once ; the TWENTY FIVE year old pure blood WITCH is a HUFFLEPUFF alumnus who has gone on to be an OWL POSTAL WORKER. i’ve heard they can be quite WHIMSICAL & EBULLIENT, but i don’t know… they came off very SCATTERBRAINED & HEDONISTIC in that interview. it really is hard to know what to believe these days though, isn’t it?   [   rachel, twenty four, gmt, she / they   ]
