Thanks to @mamey2422 for commissioning me to draw Grey and Ethan from How to Fake it in Hollywood. It was super fun to do something with characters I'm unfamiliar with!

A talented Hollywood starlet and a reclusive A-lister enter into a fake relationship . . . and discover that their feelings might be more than a PR stunt in this sexy debut for fans of Beach Read and The Unhoneymooners.
Grey Brooks is on a mission to keep her career afloat now that the end of her long-running teen soap has her (unsuccessfully) pounding the pavement again. With a life-changing role on the line, she’s finally desperate enough to agree to her publicist’s scheme . . . faking a love affair with a disgraced Hollywood heartthrob who needs the publicity, but for very different reasons.
Ethan Atkins just wants to be left alone. Between his high-profile divorce, his struggles with drinking, and his grief over the death of his longtime creative partner and best friend, he’s slowly let himself fade into the background. But if he ever wants to produce the last movie he and his partner wrote together, Ethan needs to clean up his reputation and step back into the spotlight. A gossip-inducing affair with a gorgeous actress might be just the ticket, even if it’s the last thing he wants to do.
Though their juicy public relationship is less than perfect behind the scenes, it doesn’t take long before Grey and Ethan’s sizzling chemistry starts to feel like more than just an act. But after decades in a ruthless industry that requires bulletproof emotional armor to survive, are they too used to faking it to open themselves up to the real thing?
my review:
Naturally, the fake dating in this book caught my interest. I’m always a sucker for that trope, especially in Hollywood. How to Fake It in Hollywood was a steamy read about faking a relationship and dealing with the consequences of falling in love in the public eye.
Ever since her popular teen drama ended a year ago, Grey Brooks has been out of work and hunting for her next role. She’s desperate enough to consider her publicist’s suggestion of fake dating Ethan Atkins, an A-list actor who’s been out of the public eye for the past five years after his best friend died and a messy divorce and is now trying to clean up his reputation. When they meet, they reluctantly agree because neither of them can deny their attraction to each other. Soon that attraction leads to something real, but how good can a relationship be when your every move is followed by the public eye?
The characterizations were very strong. Of course, Grey wants to continue acting and needs something to be her big break, especially after being in the industry since she was eight years old. However, she also wants more public recognition so she and her best friend can get the project they wrote together off the ground. Meanwhile, Ethan struggles with his feelings of grief and alcoholism; he wants to finish the film he was working on with his best friend before he died, but every moment reminds him of his loss.

REVIEW: How to Fake it in Hollywood by Ava Wilder
3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
I didn't know anything about the story when I started reading it. I had an idea that it would be a fun rom-com, and that's what I was looking for at the time. Forget the romance and fun rom com I was hoping to read. Instead, I ended up with a rollercoaster of angsty drama.
The first half of the book was good. I liked the fake dating; it was fun until it took a turn I didn't expect. I didn't realize that Ethan's mental health and drinking issues would be the center of the story. I don't think I would have picked it up if I was aware of that. Topics like addiction, child star molestation, and the dark side of fame were addressed in a candid manner, but the way the fake relationship aspects were handled felt a bit chaotic.
I read it all, but I definitely skimmed through some parts. I really had no interest in Kamilah and their project.
Anyway, it was fine, I didn't hate it but it was totally different than what I expected. I rounded it up to 3 stars because I finished it, and half of the book had my interest, before it took a turn.

Grey Brooks is an ex-soap opera star who can't seem to find new work since her breakout role ended. Ethan Atkins is a superstar whose reputation has gone off the deep end since his best friend died. Put together by their agents, a plan has been set forth to get both of their careers back on track. In the midst of fake dating though, who wouldn't fall in love?
While this book took me a lot longer than normal to read, I felt it was one of the better ones I've read this year. I could really feel the chemistry between the main characters, and it didn't seem forced at all. Grey and Ethan could've been real celebrities and I would've believed every second of it. The relationship just felt so real!
I think this partly has to do with the inclusion of mental health and addiction in both romance and career. A lot of Ethan's struggles I know will be relatable to many. The portrayal of his mental health was done in a very tasteful but also realistic way, and I appreciate the way things played out in the end.
Like I stated previously, this book took me a lot longer to read than normal. I think this is because of the pacing of the book. There were a lot of fast parts but then when it wasn't going fast it felt like it was dragging on and on. I kept finding myself wishing I were doing something else while reading, so I did do something else haha.
Overall, this book was really enjoyable, and I'm so glad I got to read it!
4 stars.

what no one has done nearly enough with is vel and cassian (or more likely, joreth sward or someone) having a lavender marriage for the Rebellion. vel needs a more convenient Cover for not being a nice heterosexually married Chandrilan Lady and the rebellion needs to sink another long term sleeper agent into the Chandrilan elite to pass money and information around. Vel and Cassian think they're going to kill each other in the first week or be immediately found out but the thing is that because they have a shared purpose and don't actively hate each other's guts they can grit their teeth and Bear It for the rebellion and in comparison to the *rest* of *real* Chandrilan couples this is an absolute dream relationship, so everyone's after Vel for marriage advice
enter jyn and cinta. for maximum drama

they changed the facade of the "metro hotel" (as they tend to change sets around every now and then) but the buildings in the back are the exact same
what is Wrong with me.

Do you ever think how awkward and apologetic Taylor (and Karlie) must be sometimes when people get a bit out of control with the "shipping" with some of their friends, whether close or acquaintances?
yeah what a weird subject to broach especially with new friends like oh by the way i don’t want to alarm you as we walk out this door but you’re about to have about 27 strangers dedicate themselves to proving that you’re hooking up with me. hope you find that amusing. okay let’s head out thanks for dinner!!
