The more script leaks and news of cut scenes we get, the sicker I become. Because what do you mean such weighty scenes delving deeper into characters and their relationships with each other were removed? Scenes that would make all of us more invested in these characters and their relationships??? Alicent voicing her clear powerlessness against her forced marriage to Viserys, Rhaenyra being willing to wield her power to save her (while cruelly but also understandably doubting Alicent's virtue in the matter with Viserys)? Rhaenyra and Alicent reaching a sorrowful resignation to their fate while preparing for the wedding? Harwin rowdily and tactlessly defending Larys from a bully while Larys begrudges him for drawing attention, showing the latter's desire to not be perceived and to maintain an agreeable public/political presence? Baela convincing Rhaenys to join Rhaenyra in the war, appealing to what Laena would have done and who she was? Are you fucking kidding me???? Why did the producers cut these meaty informative scenes and keep some rather empty, indulgent and unnecessary ones like the Larys foot scene??? What happened to insightful storytelling???

it seems to me that, with the darksvster script transcripts (thank you for your service, first of all🙏), some are feeling in bit of a tight spot, because they fear their interpretation of the show will be proven wrong and, god knows, there's nothing worse on this earth than Being Proven Wrong On The Internet, right? 🤦‍♀️

i would just like to make note of the fact that this perception is absolutely self-induced and artificially-created and that everyone should take a breather and stop being an arsehole about this.

the media text exists as you saw on screen: if you add or subtract certain elements, the meaning will change. this is an obvious tenet of how interpretation works: it is influenced by what is there, not by what is not there.* sometimes even a small detail can completely derail the meaning of a scene. sometimes it just adds context. sometimes it introduces a new aspect altogether.

so (and this goes for both teams) no one is being retroactively dumb for not reading the writers' minds and not being prescient enough to anticipate all versions of the scripts. if you were proven right, cool. if you read something that disagreed with some of your previously-defended takes, you may feel a bit miffed, but how could you have known? it's not that serious. you shouldn't feel like your reputation is on the line and go into fight-or-flight mode or resort to bullying (the favourite pastime of this fandom, ofc). if you want to positively participate in fandom, worry about backing up your interpretations of what actually aired on screen with solid arguments instead.

some of you conflate your personhood and sense of self-worth way too much with your fandom of choice and it's making you act all kinds of goofy.

*ofc there are situations in which the absence of certain topics can say quite a lot about the writer, but there is a difference between choosing not to address certain social, racial, political dimensions at play in a work of fiction vs the absence of random plot points or tidbits of characterisation no one could have possibly guessed at unless they literally possessed a crystal ball

I just find it funny, that alicent,the epitome of duty and graciousness, probably likes it for people, especially her children, to behave in an orderly conduct befitting their station, to then have a daughter that casually leans and basically folds herself 90 degrees over the table to make sure otto sees the details in her beetle (that aegon got for her-this is the alleged rumours of the script im not 100% sure myself).

Like i imagine as a personal headcanon, back when they were still friends, rhaenyra was the tomboy princess, that was always reminded by a half japing young alicent to act like a proper lady, then years later u have helaena like:

u can clearly see helaena even putting her legs up to push her body forward, so her favourite peepaw can look at her beetle.

While rewatching this scene and putting my volume up in my headphones,im pretty sure i heard her distinctively say 'look at it' to otto.

Another thing, its just hilarious to me that aegon and aemond noticed viserys coming in and started going to their seats while helaena didnt even bother😭😂.(she probably didnt notice lol)

apparently in an old draft of the script alicent realizes (through larys) that talya was spying on her and angrily says she'll take her head. wish they could have found a way to keep it, but oh well. I hate that they even had this talya thing in the first place but at least let alicent punish! just like they removed her saying she didn't want aegon wearing viserys crown because he viserys was weak.

yeah it seems like they de-fanged alicent quite a bit! the script version was closer to her (perceived) book self. i'm not mad that they made her kinder overall, but they could have left the part explaining that SHE specifically doesn't want aegon to wear viserys' crown and her comeback that she is now older (and more experienced) than her mother ever got to be.

it gives her a backbone and a bit of an edge, because, at the end of the day, she DOES have grievances against viserys and should be allowed to express them! no matter how gentle hearted one is, sometimes enough is enough.

anyway, i'm not sure the decisions to make her softer helped increase her popularity with the general public
