Adultification of all HotD Girls and the infantilization of Rhaenyra.
Two scenes in HotD really bug me with how the characters acknowledge Rhaenyra as a child when she’s 18, but then go on to marry and impregnate girls younger than 18.
Viserys call Rhaenyra, “just a girl” when Daemon takes her to the brothel. He doesn’t use the world woman, he uses girl, denoting Rhaenyra as not an adult at this point in her life. By Visery’s logic, he married a child. Alicent was only 14/15 when he married her and only 17 when she become a mother twice over.
Daemon also cause Rhaenyra, “just a child” when she’s says he abandoned her after her wedding. Daemon then goes on to flirt with a 15/16 year old Laena at the wedding and marrying her soon after.
The adultification of Laena is much worse than characters in text acknowledging people older than her as kids. Laena is played by two actresses that are about ten years older than Laena’s canon age. This also isn’t just a case of adults playing teens, the show has set Rhaenyra and Alicent as the standard for what a 14 through 18/19 year old and 28 through 34 year olds looks like. Laena’s actresses are older than Rhaenyra and Alicent’s Actors and Actresses. This is a classic example of black girlhood being earesed in text and out of. Laena goes from a clear 12 year old who is very visually much younger than Rhaenyra and Alicent to being a near adult woman who looks about the same age, if not older than the other girls. Laena is also styled in much more mature clothing than we see any other character in. Even Alicent’s “sex dresses” are much more reserved than Laena’s gold dress.
We also have the same thing happening to Laena’s daughters, Baela and Rhaena. In text they should be 16 or younger but their actresses are older than Jace’s actor. The only upside is that the two are not visually sexualized and aged up as teen Laena was.
In conclusion, HotD in text shows the absurdity of Viserys and Daemon viewing Rhaenyra as a child while pressing girls younger than she was at the time. The show tries to erase the clear adultification of Laena. The show engages in a lot of anti black stereotypes and I am not looking forward to how they’ll treat Nettles.
Disclaimer: I am not a WOC or a POC, if anything I wrote is wrong please correct me. My goal is to learn and advocate for better representation in media for all gender, races, ethnicities, and sexual orientation.

“Baela shrieks with her father’s anger.”
“Jace the closest to Aemond in age —”
“Aemond puts his hands around Luke’s throat, throttling him.”
“You will die screaming in flames just as your father did.”
“…comes at Aemond, who readies the big rock.”
“He counters, smashing Jace’s face in with the rock.”
I’m gonna knock some teeth out ‘closest to Aemond in age’ and he was canonically 6 to Aemond’s 10. Jace and Luke were the only ones really involved with the fight in the book, and it’s stated multiple times that Aemond had the clear advantage over them and was beating them ruthlessly. It was a clear power play on his part that quickly turned sour because the younger brother feared for both his and his older brothers life (as he should, the kid was 5 fucking years old).
I know why they added the Dragon Twins to the fight, and it was solely to infantilize Aemond even further than they already had (and demonize the girls and the Velaryon boys in turn). Sure, I’m supposed to feel sorry for him because he was bullied for not having a dragon (boo fucking hoo); but I’m not supposed to feel sorry for the twins after they just lost their mother, considering how quickly that storyline was left in the dust to further Aemond’s. I’m not supposed to feel sorry for the woman and kids who were targeted purely due to their blood/gender (but that doesn’t matter ofc just that they’re bastards and harming poor helpless trueborn baby Aemond how dare they).
The agenda being pushed in the show is obviously full of microagressions against these kids — the Velaryons were made into POC just to make certain the audience knew that Rhaenyra’s first three children were bastards, and Baela and Rhaena were added to the fight to show them as the ‘true’ aggressors to the entire situation. It didn’t matter that they had lost their mom recently, it didn’t matter that they didn’t even know who Aemond was. They had one of the last living relics of their mother stolen out from under them by this random kid who immediately insults them to their faces for having the audacity to be upset, but HE is the victim here. Jace had just found out about Harwin being his bio dad and then lost him within a short amount of time. He was being openly mocked and told he and his baby brother were going to die in the exact same way at Aemond’s hand. But no, no! Don’t jump to the obvious conclusion; AEMOND is the victim here.
Four grieving children reacted on their extremely volatile emotions, with one acting on fear alone, and it ended poorly for all parties involved— who would’ve thought?

the hotd writers writing the black characters as plot devices for their main white characters is so disgusting. like "here are some black character for representation, but let's not bother to give them any actual plot beside serving daemyra".
and now they are trying to write out the ONLY canonically black character out of the show because she does not serve the narrative that is beneficial for their daemyra. i'm so done with this show.
It’s disgusting how they treat them. Yes, House Velaryon doesn’t have the best outcome during the war, but they made them worse in the show(Vaemond calling Missy Anne a whore to justify his murder, Laena lighting herself on fire cause she’s unloved, Corlys and Rhaenys, not Black but she still looks stupid, thinking Dumbnyra killed their son and still supporting Missy Anne, Laenor being a deadbeat dad, Rhaena going around and calling her cousin/stepmother my queen, Baela’s scenes being cut).
They straight-up made them look like idiots with no self-preservation/respect by blindly following Missy Anne. They could’ve kept them white if all they were going to do is have them play second fiddle to their chosen one.
We want representation but don’t throw us scraps and act like you are doing something. These aren’t fully fleshed-out characters. These are the modern rendition of racist stereotypes.

Found this piece of art on Twitter:
Tumblr media
Now you may ask, "Where are Baela and Rhaena?"
This was the artist's response:
Tumblr media
And this is my thought towards that:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Just goes to show how Baela and Rhaena have been relegated to the side for not being the "right" sort of Targaryens by even the black fans of this series. (Double irony through puns)
Then when we see those criticisms of the artwork, you see people who come to the artist's defense:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I already pointed how how the artwork was conceptually lacking and how this lack made the artwork doubly discriminatory and unfair.
But it's strange to see these people defend the lacking based on...."manners" as if we should wholesale swallow messages of art and literature without any sort of criticism. These people did not bother to consider if said Criticisms were constructive or had points, they immediately went: it's the artist's prerogative to have their work unanalyzed or criticized (even though they published it themselves) in any way (that's the rub) just because they worked hard on it. The immediacy of the shut down comes with a flawed judgement, becoming something like censorship itself.
Was Twitter a mistake?

Y'ALL CAN EXCUSE RACISM?
Let's get one thing straight: I have no part in this chaotic mess (infact, I have blocked all the accounts mentioned below), but it's grinding my gears how it's devolving into another petty fanfic drama: case 607. I know this drama is getting the attention for certain individuals who are demonstrating mean girl behaviour and gossiping about other writers behind their backs. However, I am solely focused on addressing the racist and discriminatory remarks made by these individuals in the leaked text messages.
For those not in the loop, there's been a huge drama in the fanfic community involving leaked text messages from a group chat of four prominent members. In these messages, two users - Fae and Bel - have admitted to sending hate anons and talking smack about other writers behind their backs. Two other members left the group after it was revealed that B tried to make amends with someone who these two, Em and Ange, don't particularly care for. As a move to clear their names, Em exposed all the texts, trying to prove that Fae and Bel are the real villains here.
But wait, there's more! In these same chats, Bel not only mocked fellow non-English speakers but also bragged about sending rat emojis to an 18-year-old Pakistani writer who was already receiving racist anons. While everyone is focused on getting back at these two women for being shady af, it's mind-boggling how Em and Ange are suddenly jumping on the anti-racism train.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two ladies stayed in the same chat as a fellow Pakistani writer was driven away because of racism, knowing full well that one of their own was contributing to it, and said NOTHING! Zero discouragement, no condemnation - they only hopped off when things got personal.
So here it is… I've had it with all of you hypocrites. You praise and encourage these women at every turn, feeding their egos like they're the second coming of Beyonce. But let's not forget who's always stirring up drama in this fandom - hint: it's these same people with a sense of entitlement the size of a planet. The issue is groupthink and y'all have all jumped on the bandwagon. You're worse than HBO's marketing department because just like their shitty teams, everyone involved here SUCKS ASS. You don't have to pick a side because they are all petty, mean losers. Bel and Fae are facing the consequences of their actions, which they rightfully deserve.
However, Em's exposé on Bel's racism seems more like an opportunistic move and it's disappointing that so many of you are supporting it. It's a predictable cycle now; there will be a half-hearted apology, an announcement of a hiatus, and then tons of people will flock to their inboxes to shower them with praise and excuses. It's ridiculous! I know there are many who feel the same way as me but are afraid to speak up because they don't want to upset the "village elders" and risk losing their connections and engagements. It's a joke atp!
Instead of taking responsibility for their own wrongdoings, they will come up with a list of 10 different cyber crimes by others to divert attention from their own nonsense. These very same women have confessed to creating multiple fake accounts, secretly stalking servers without mods noticing, and constantly harassing individuals through anon messages.
Yet, we are supposed to consider them as examples of moral integrity and ethical behavior? 😒

And to add more on my previous post, all of the main female characters (with the exception of Arianne Martell) in the main series of ASOIAF are representations of white femininity.
Every single one.
And that is because they are literally white. It doesn’t make them bad characters or anything.
I’ve talked about it before hand, but anytime George is writing a character of color, especially a black woman, he uses racist stereotypes and imagery. Every time.
There’s a reason why Dorne and the Summer Isles are sexually liberated, and why the Dothraki are portrayed as vicious ‘savages’ with hardly any redeeming values to their culture.
There’s a reason why Arianne’s exposure to sex and intimacy at ten years old is not framed the same way as say, Sansa’s.
There’s a reason why Chataya and her daughter are brutalized and reminiscent of the Jezebel trope.

THE RACISM CHAPTER
My name is being brought up a lot so let me make this clear for the last time.
Was I a victim for racism at the hands of the individuals involved in all this drama, yes? Was I a part of the discord that allowed such conversations to take place, yes.
I will speak for both my wife @themotherofhorses and I.
What bugged us the most was how much mayhem got caused every time someone even sneezed the word plagiarism but did nothing to stop the one actively making BIPOC creators uncomfortable. Such as Bel wanting to write a Pocahontas x Daemon fic.
I do have a bone to pick when mods of that discord would mute people for maybe being a slight nuisance. I am guilty of that. But watched as people openly admitted to harassing members of that same discord.
Em and Ange should be allowed the room to learn and grow from this, but we as a community too need to realize that most of this can be handled privately.
And to any future discord mods, please put your foot down when you are trying to curate a space for writers to come together.

Hi, I’m Myrella and I don’t think I’m very important in this fandom, but I’m still a person with a strong opinion against racism. See, I don’t have many friends or mutuals here, I don’t like and I don’t seek to get involved in certain dramas that happen involving content creators because I believe this is a place I look for when I want to distract, not to see the shit that happens for things that don’t interest me, but there is also a big problem that many people don’t care about or practice: racism.
As Brazilian woman and person of color, I incisively condemn the act of racism and xenophobia. I DON’T WANT to be involved with people who at the first opportunity will distill hatred against my nationality and my color, I DON’T ADMIT to be conniving with such acts and such people, so I ask everyone to perform such acts to block me IMMEDIATELY! I don’t want to be in the same space as this kind of people, my blog is a safe place for all people and I don’t accept to be the mutual of a problematic shitty racist/xenophobic.
I saw many things today about people I admired far beyond work, things that I had no idea happened, happened and happen at the moment. I’m still trying to filter everything that happened and find out if things that were exposed are true, but in advance, I don’t want to interact with people who practice or do not see a problem in living with racist people.
This is me, a Brazilian woman who will not be intimidated by people in this fandom and on this platform

For the life of me I can’t understand how people think it’s acceptable for House of the Dragon a show that is pushing for more diversity (making the Velaryon’s Black and Mysaria Asian) to race bend the only canonical black character. If they wanted to race bend any of the characters they could’ve made Alys Rivers Indian. They could make Sara Snow Mexican and so on. It’s just so frustrating to see this happen time and time again in media when it comes to the portrayal of WOC in general but especially black women.
Like I don't care if people ship Daemyra you know? If shipping those two makes them happy go for it. My only thing is I just want them to stop with the racist shit they say about all the WOC in Daemon's life. From his lovers (cause they've said some racist shit about Mysaria too) to his wife and to even his daughters. At this point I'm convinced half of them don't even like Daemon because if they did they wouldn't stay shitting on the women who at one point or another were/are important to him.
Idk 🤷🏽‍♀️ it's just very strange to me.
Tumblr media
The discourse surrounding Nettles is absolutely crazy and you can tell it’s being fueled by anti-black weirdos who are mainly Dumbnyra stans(lol Team Green have their issues too, but they aren’t the ones who are advocating to race bend Nettles 🙃)
Honestly, I did not have a problem with Dumbnyra(and yes I’m going to call it that) at the beginning of the show. I was indifferent to it. However, that quickly changed when most of the fans started to show themselves to be the racist psychopaths that they are. Down to them literally calling Laena the n-word and celebrating her death🙃:
Tumblr media
You might say it’s just a couple of the more “extreme” fans that feel that way, but literally go on their blogs, Twitter accounts, etc., and 90% are arguing some bs.
If it’s not bashing Laena(yes they are still doing this even though she’s dead and according to them Rhaenyra was the love of Daemon’s life so it really doesn’t make sense to do all of this for a dead woman who paled in comparison to the “love of his life”🙃) it’s bashing Nettles.
Boy, do they hate Nettles. I'm posting her picture cause this is the face of their nightmares🤣
Tumblr media
If it’s not saying Daemon never loved her and she was just this “giant misunderstanding” between himself and the “love of his life” despite him literally going against his wife and queen’s orders to save her, it’s saying how she’s Daemon’s daughter or Daemon saw her like a daughter.
Their relationship was 100% paternal or mentee/ mentor. Stop mentioning the bath’s which were father-daughter bonding time or the fact that they might’ve slept in the same bed which was just done to comfort a frightened child. Daemon would never get with someone so black I mean so foul-mouthed in canon. She’s just his child😅
Why do you want a bada** with a middle-aged white man? You’re the one with the problem, not me even though I’m trying to infantilize a young black woman and pidgin hole her into the “strong independent black woman” trope while supporting a white woman getting with her uncle cause I can relate to her. I refuse to read the books(or parts of the books) because every time I do I want to ripe out my hair when Daemon and Nettles' relationship is mentioned 🙃
Anyway, if it’s not saying she’s going to be cut and replaced with Rhaena(cause then they know that the relationship would actually be non-romantic☺️), it’s saying and actively hoping she’ll be race bent because they can’t stand the thought of Daemon being with a black woman💁🏽‍♀️:
Tumblr media
All minorities are the same don’t cha know 😀and we have too many black people on this show. What we have Corlys, his sons, Rhaena, and Baela. Yes, Rhaena and Baela are mixed, but they count as representation cause their skin isn’t white and I can’t relate because of that. Why add the only in-canon black person when we have a whopping 5 whole black people in a sea of whites 🙃
Also, we don’t know what race Nettles is even though we have pictures of her in the lore and in the books as well as descriptions of her appearance that show that she is black, but again every time Nettles is mentioned I get triggered so I skip over her parts😀
Moving on. If it’s not bashing Nettles they are blatantly ignoring that Rhaena and Baela are Daemon’s daughters and his only daughters. They’ll literally draw a million and one pictures of lizard baby (that’s what I’m calling it, cause again, these people don’t deserve respect) and pretend like it ever drew breath and that it is his only daughter🙃 Or my personal favorite which is essentially Daemon is a good father because he didn’t abandon them on the side of the road (where they belong).
They were educated, clothed, and fed, children don’t need affection, stop complaining. The fandom loves Rhaena and Baela🙃. No one cares about poor Rhaenyra and her boys(who Daemon sees as his real children cause they share the same skin color🙃). That’s why I draw, write, and gif for these poor neglected souls and completely leave out the black ingrates, I mean Rhaena and Baela😅
Finally Mysaria. Oh, Mysaria, I’ve got my own problems with her, but yeah they do bash her by pinning all of Rhaenyra’s psycho deeds on her(so much for your girl being a queen who has "agency"🙃).
Like yeah, she’s not innocent, but she’s not the only one who isn’t innocent, and while I definitely don’t think Daemon was ever that in love with her given how quickly he was willing to call her a wh*re, it hasn’t escaped my notice that the only reason why she isn’t that much of a focus is because they do regulate her to just a wh*re 🙃
They hate Rhea too and try to make her into a groomer to justify Daemon murdering her, but we aren’t going to get into that because we are talking about how this fandom treats the non-white women of Daemon’s life.
Look, I could go on and on, but this ship literally attracts the most racist, white supremacist-leaning, self-hating fans(yes there are Black and other non-white fans who will literally throw their own under a bus for this ship🤦🏽‍♀️), and anti-Black fans by the boat load. And the thing is, they all hide behind “feminism” when called out for it🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, you can ship what you want, but it’s pretty obvious at this point it’s beyond shipping. If you are literally bashing every single woman and girl (especially the non-white women/girls) besides Rhaenyra in Daemon’s life then dude there is something wrong here.
They definitely aren’t Daemon fans(hell he probably has about as many actual fans as Nettles does🤦🏽‍♀️). They are Rhaenyra self-inserters who are pissed off that their ship is on borrowed time and “their man” is about to “leave” their self-insert in the dust for gasp 😱 a black woman so they are taking all the shots they can to feel better about this Titanic ship 🤷🏽‍♀️

The desire to erase Daenaera from the story is even more sinister when you realise she’s Black in show lore and that plays into white fandoms need to erase or belittle Black girls in their own story. We see it with Luke and Rhaena and the one-eyed freak, with Jace and Sara Snow and Cregan and most famously with Laena. It’s exhausting. #they want to erase another Black girl and I’m tired.
lagosbratzdoll talked about this briefly in these reblogs, so i'm directing people there.
I also wrote recently about HotD, the Velaryons, and paternity HERE.
This post concerns the greens stans' desire for Jaehaera to live and birth Aegon III's kids so that the Green line can stay relevant. Unfortunately, they also try to use Jaehaera's innocence to overpower the point of her death, which was that the greens are ultimately at fault for her death in Rhaenyra's usurpation bc they effectively made it so that no Targ woman/girl, including Jaehaera, would become a Queen regnant. And they all died, essentially leaving her vulnerable to Unwin Peake, a man who himself was one of their supporters in the war!
vboyrules makes a point, too, how Jaehaera wasn't ever going to be well enough or stable to be a mother or anything.
Daenaera was one of those responsible for both Aegon being much happier and mentally better AS WELL AS his political stability and disconnection from the grasping Unwin Peake.
That green stans can also delude themselves into thinking that Aegon would ever have a great relationship w/Jaehaera after the war for the sake of having and raising heirs/children who probably would have been more messed up than one of the ones he had w/Daenaera is crazy. They really do not want to see Daenaera be black or PoC in anyway, as that would make the Velaryons and black Velaryons fulfill more than their precious male greens.

bethany antonia talks about the racism she experienced over her casting as/playing baela targaryen
y'all: team green fans is to blame for this. no it was coming from team black fans, look at all the nasty - actually it's the casuals in the fandom.
SHUT THE FUCK UP. EVERYONE in the fandom has equal responsibility to call that shit out. use this as an opportunity to BE BETTER instead of trying to simply prove that you're better for the sake of some dumb fanwars

Not here to start anything but did you not reach out to the person who was the victim of racism here to see her opinion on it? Because she's been quite vocal and clear that things with Em are patched.
Hi nonnie,
I am taking your ask because this ABSOLUTELY needs to be addressed. Your question is a prime example of why I made that post in the first place. So many of you are completely missing the point: this is not just about "fanfic drama" between two people anymore. The main post that detailed all the leaked text messages is WILD to me, because while they revealed some nasty mean girl behaviour from some, it also showed a blatant display of participation and encouragement in bullying, harassment, and racism from everyone involved. And yet, the most disturbing part is the reaction from your community. It's beyond baffling atp!
To answer your question in a nutshell, I joined this fandom after all that drama went down. When those texts came out, I was honestly confused and had to reach out to my own desi community to figure out what was going on. Turns out at the time, Shruie mentioned getting racist attacks but Bel had everyone convinced she was lying - and since Shruie was a considerably smaller blog, she was ostracized and her concerns were brushed off as mere ploy to get attention and sympathy. And now, with the recent revelation of Bel's use of rat emojis, do you see why that part is crucial here? Can you grasp why even the slightest knowledge of Bel's despicable behaviour is significant here? And, do you comprehend how the lack of condemnation only perpetuates a culture of racist hatred towards this person of colour? It's time to confront and acknowledge these issues head-on.
This drama happened back in July of LAST YEAR (?) and now it's being leaked? And you expect us to just forgive and forget because they made up with one person involved? Sorry, I'm not buying it. They only reached out to the victim because they had a falling out with the main perpetrator. If they truly take responsibility for their actions, then GOOD! But excuse me for being wary of this community who will coddle these grown ass women to tell them repeatedly how they are an “integral part of this fandom” or how they “meant well” while making these mistakes over and over again.
Some of us don't see this as just a petty fanfic squabble anymore. And if you still don't see it, then I don't expect you ever will. Your biases blind you - and frankly, I no longer have any interest in trying to make you see. This ain't my first rodeo with people who want to jump on the anti-racism train but are actually part of the problem. My post was meant to call out the toxic behavior that has gone unchecked for too long. Grace, @the-heartlines said it perfectly, so I'm linking her post here for those who need it spelled out more eloquently. This isn't about the fanfic community - because let's be real, I'm not even a part of it. You're all too focused on maintaining your little popularity contests and chasing upvotes to see how your own biases affect your actions. My words are for the rest of the fandom, who can see through the facade and finally speak out against this BS.

Luke/Aemond, Jace/Helaena and Jace/Sara are the direct result of Baela and Rhaena being black. It’s not outright racism and I think a lot of fans genuinely don’t realise their own bias, but the fact of the matter is they’d rather ship Luke with his killer and Jace with a woman he barely interacts with or a character that might not even exist simply because they’re not black.
It’s the same way one even thought about Aegon III/Jaehaera until the show because it’s clear Daenaera’s going to be black. Suddenly it’s all “wouldn’t it be better if both sides continued?” or “this is more poetic”. No one was saying this when the Velaryons were white.
I’m even wary of Jace/Cregan because of how fans love to fetishise mlm, especially when a woman of colour is the main love interest.
This kind of racism needs to be called out more, regardless of whether you’re Team Black or Team Green.
I agree completely, anon! It bothers me a lot how Baela and Rhaena are sidelined and their love interests are shipped with everyone but them. It is racism and I don't think people realise this, which is really fucked up.
