they meet penny lamb on the 15th of september, each of them recognising the name from a hauntingly vivid dream they shared the night before.

penny lamb, upon talking to the five other teenagers, instantly recognises their conversation. she had a dream the night before, even though she wasn’t in uranium. even though she wasn’t a member of the choir. her elbows and neck aches every time she moved them, her head and forearms seemed as though they lacked blood. she was decapitated on the cyclone, once, but she never boarded it. they all knew her as jane doe, a forgotten name. now she was gifted this second chance, she would be remembered. by everyone, anyone. even if penny lamb was only remembered by herself, it would still be a victory. make a mark on people’s hearts, that would be her first goal. her second was don’t die by decapitation this time.

ricky potts is the most confused. he conceded, didn’t he? granted, that was when he believed only one would return. but still. his life was valuable, even though society looked down upon him. he’s still going to fantasise about zolar, sure, but he’s also going to be that zolarian prophet back on earth. he doesn’t know how much time he has left - none of the choir do - but he can always make a difference.

mischa bachinski has unlocked a new side of himself. rage and passion are twoo sides of the same coin, feeling so deeply for another that justice and care for them becomes your responsibility. but now, he allows himself to be selfish. be introspective. and not just to talia. he looks into himself, the boy he is, rather than being the man everyone expects him to become. he asks for help, for comfort, as he always tried to provide to the others in his life before the cyclone crash.

noel gruber realises the dull tragedy of his life. but even a dull tragedy has ecstasy within it. feelings of unrequited love. oppressed by the leading beliefs of his town for an unchanging part of his identity. a small town cliche. it took him a tragic death to realise the interest of his tragic life. he stops waiting. he starts writing, and continues living. and while the depravity and drama of post-war france is his ideal, maybe a bit of light to balance it out isn’t always the complete worst.

ocean o’connell rosenberg is an absolute fucking mess. if she keeps acting as she did with her second chance, what’s the lesson? that even when a person develops she reverts to her normal self in her original environment? that change is impossible? if she keeps building a life, working towards something, it could all come crashing down in a day. again. but if she stops caring, begins to act like her parents, well, that just shows that no one can break past their upbringing and genetics and no one should ever try. but then she looks out at the choir. her career, that’s fine, she can care about that, she can put work into it. effort for effort’s sake is not futile if the experience itself is enjoyable or helpful. that world, however, pales in comparison to the five people in front of her. caring for them, uplifting them rather than standing atop them, that’s what she wants to do. that’s what the world needs.

Thinking about how episodes like Sky Witch/Varmints/Broke His Crown and even Red Starved show us this really solid, familiar, well-rehearsed team dynamic that pb & marcy have when they work together and how that always involves a level of teasing and bickering but also so much care and affection and just a deep fundamental understanding of each other’s needs beneath that.

And how both the flashback and the present in Obsidian are examples of how when the mission hits too close to home or challenges them in especially sensitive areas (I maintain that flashback and present events in Obsidian hit them BOTH right in the childhood trauma) they can take it too far and push each other in ways that really hurt without knowing the depth of what they’re doing. Like, y’know, the kind of thing that happens sometimes in all healthy relationships.

The difference is that in the present day of Obsidian they both have a little more insight into themselves and are able to separate their own pain and insecurities from the other’s a little more after some time to process alone, and their second trip to the Glass Kingdom helps them both grow even further in that area.

I think (and hope I’m right in saying so because what do I know) that they have such a realistic relationship and their communication is so evident in their actions, even though we don’t often see those conversations actually happen on screen.

They aren’t perfect! and I don’t think being in a healthy, (mostly) happy, loving relationship takes anything away from their characters OR from their cool weird edgy mad scientist overlord X chaotic demon vampire vibe.

what's your favourite thing about jgy as a character? 🫖

honestly there is so much i love about him as a character that it's hard to put it succinctly into writing but i shall try my best!!!!!! (and caveat of course that i am mainly going off of what cql i have seen and the various metas i have read about the canon overall.)

i think my first point of love for him is how great his propensity for love is!!! while it does lead to him getting hurt, i think it's also a very important part of his character—a lot of the things he does are to help those he loves/to shield them from harm (be it personal love, such as for his mother (in building the guanyin temple so she is honoured in death in the way he wasn't able to ensure in her life), jl, lxc, qs, nhs, etc, or his love for the common people—because yes, i would say the care required to want to improve the lives of the average person, say via the watchtowers, does require love at least in some measure), and i personally find that a very compelling and engaging trait.

secondly—his determination! in every way possible, he started off at a shockingly large disadvantage to those around him, both from the circumstances of his birth and upbringing to the way that those around him treated him, but despite that, he is able to become someone who is, if not loved by the jianghu, at least seen as competent (i would say the common people probably do respect him for the changes he makes in his time as the jin regent(? not sure if this is the term that is ever used in canon but given that it's clear jgy is leading the jin in jl's place while he's too young to do so himself it is the best one i can come up with)—the watchtowers, yes, but also how he changed the expectations and standards within the jin sect, like making it clear that anyone who accepts bribes will not be tolerated (i don't have the sources for this one on hand but i'm fairly certain there's evidence on your blog somewhere).) the fact that he was able to rise to the position he eventually held is not coincidence—it took careful application of his wits, the skills he honed, and the relationships he made and risks he took along the way.

and of course, i absolutely adore his dynamic with lxc—obviously this isn't a jgy-only topic, there's two pieces in play here, etc etc, but if i don't talk about it i feel that i'm doing him a disservice, especially with how much he himself clearly values lxc's companionship, regard, respect, and affection. i don't think that, given canon, it would ever have been possible for them to be anything "more" than what they were, but i think that, in those years in between the end of the sunshot campaign and the final stand at the guanyin temple, they found happiness in each other, and even if that happiness was finite, i believe it is incredibly important, especially given the actual real importance of their presences in each others' lives (lxc being one of the first people to treat him as an equal, jgy sheltering lxc during sunshot, their mutual parts in the downfall of wrh through jgy's spying—i think it's safe to say that if either of them were anyone else, it would not have worked—, jgy's support in the rebuilding of the cloud recesses and lxc's relationship and sworn brotherhood with jgy realistically going a long way to legitimise jgy in the eyes of the gentry, just to name a few).

finally, i love him because he is small and i want happiness for him forever and nothing bad to happen. that is all your honour, thank you for your time.

I didnt think it was really because of him, but because he wanted to protect people from having to live like he does, constantly on edge and afraid of what could be next

okay that kinda makes sense, but let's think abt it like this. leon doesn't want ppl to live through what he did and know the fear he knew back then, right? that's the reason why he keeps trying to prevent another raccoon city incident from happening again.

but what happened to penamstan literally ended up JUST LIKE the raccoon city incident. bioweapons were used. the government tried to cover that up by bombing an entire area, killing thousands of innocent people. the mad dog unit being the sole survivors of the incident, knowing the FULL TRUTH to what happened but being forced by the government to stay quiet and do dirty work for them in exchange of keeping their own lives. sound familiar to something someone else is still going through till this day?

the difference this time, is the fact that leon had a chip with undeniable evidence that it was all a cover up. he had the ability to give the survivors a different ending than the one he got himself. and he didn't do it. he did nothing about it. and now, we ended up with another raccoon city incident.

Currently watching: My longstanding guilty pleasure is docs/commentary videos about any and all scams, particularly mlms/pyramid schemes. So it should come as no surprise that my brand new guilty pleasure is debt confessions/financial audits on youtube 🙈 I've been been watching a few by caleb hammer whose gimmick is that he gordon ramsey style shames people who come in with their financial records and he's like hey. why do you have $120,000 in consumer debt? why did you finance an ipad for your literal infant child?? why have you spent 30 dollars multiple times a day every day at dunkin for the last 3 months??? (the last one is an exaggeration but the first two I have seen LOL). His thumbnails are wretched I hate them so, so much, and his advice of living spartan-like for a few years to dig yourself out of the hole is ehhh maybe good in theory but generally not exactly...practical. And I think going cold turkey when you're used to constant impulse buying is basically a recipe for just eventually losing control and going on a bender. But. I'm nosy and love hearing about how people be spending their money so that's the best part of the videos for me lol

Currently reading: haven't picked up something new yet BUT I juuuust finished An Unauthorised Fan Treatise which was SO GOOD I literally slammed it nonstop for two days until I finished it. It's formatted like a rpf conspiracy theory livejournal where a fangirl of a supernatural-drama show compiles evidence that the two lead actors are secretly dating. BUT it's noted that the livejournal has been submitted as evidence into for a murder trial so y'know TWISTS AND TURNS lol. There's just something about the format that really compels me, idk I already love reading primers and conspiracies for hrpf couples that I literally have zero investment in and never will- I just enjoy the way the girlies spin a good narrative. Weekly Art Heap #1

Suddenly thinking actually having the weekly post be with no context and the small posts have full context actually makes more sense... but ooohhh weeeelll I'll retag it if I do it that wayyy...

So what did I do last last week. Uhhhm I remade my discord icon! Bit experimental, was drooling over Disco Elysium at the time. Still am. Going to make this the icon of my personal account in 2 seconds.

More map progress! Spent a few days on it. It's reeeaaal slow work, but it's super satisfying. Also experimented with bringing it into blender as a heightmap more easily. Basically polished the desert area at the very bottom, the jungle delta beside it, and got stuck on the mountain mesa things between the two. Mostly cause a major location is there and I have to really think about how it's supposed to be situated. It's built along a river but there's no vegetation, so it's way above the river and therefore agriculture is a separate part entirely. But also the sun has to shine on it in a certain way for a plot point. So the mountain behind it can't block the sun. But the mountain. Is a mountain. Basically I need to model it first.

Ah, my scrungly. He is alien-ified. Just yesterday practiced shrink-wrapping my skeleton model to do his thinness accurately, and it's horrifying! But that's for next week. Aka tomorrow maybe.

Overall he actually looks like the fleshy furnace he is now, complete with a new brand design, slightly digitigrade legs, and sick new clothes. Though, they're not drawn damaged here mind. Calo's been wearing it for over a decade, it does not look that snazzy anymore! Very happy with translating his slouching to a species that doesnt naturally weigh down like that.

Also some failed ideas for a roman-numeral-esque number system for them. They count in base 8, and I tried to get it to work but, eh, none of 'em really clicked with me. Big fan of the number symbolism though.

1. give us a quick run down of your s/i!!

his full name is east redmond and hes a huge klutz, however he is insanely good at most rhythmic games especially ddr (its his favourite) and in general a huge goofball, hes just a silly guy! just a silly guy! hes heir of time (note: for reference, my aspect here is also time so it makes me feel better yay!) and batkind! thats... all for that.. but he likes to crack jokes and just in general enjoy being silly and goofy with his friends and that he tries too hard to impress dave (its adorable)

3. where does your s/i live? do they aspire to move or are they content with where they are?

east lives in this sort of high tech cyber futuristic abandoned manor that has a research facility built into it (im pretty sure laboratory also goes here but just so i dont look like an idiot i wont but im adding it anyway because thats how i kept calling it e). his guardian works on high tech things and basically built the entire research facility they bought with the manor which is i guess cool??? they make a lot of things so they needed something in order to work from home but not bother east or something. now the guardian is nowhere to be found. east has no idea. 

however, east has been living there for like majority of his entire life so hes pretty content where he is! its also the only place he can talk to his mom supposedly

10. what are some of your s/i's major skills?

ok so fun fact: i dont have any of these skills (i dont think ...)

east can dismantle and recognize security cameras! however, east likes to dismantle the ones that are seen as broken and he just likes doing something with his hands. they are usually always at home, because his guardian has them but mostly in like where they work which is good and sometimes outside so no trespassers come around but still (how they break no one knows but east)

baking. sort of, he lives alone majority of the time (unfortunately) so a lot of his skills are just typical things, but because of high technology its a lot easier for him to do these without immense fear of burning his hands or something 

mapping. ok, i did this in forensics a while back and i had a lot of fun and its just something i think about a lot but its not like crime scene mapping, but like its close enough that he can use it as a skill. i also just think him mapping is cool, its fun, its like he does it with his entire literal mansion and has some sort of idea of where things would go and all (also because he lives in a mansion even though he lives there he gets lost) so its like his own personal map but also the entire layout of the mansion its great (he makes them a lot). this makes no sense. 

OH YEAH HOW CAN I FORGET i mentioned it at number one, but hes very VERY skilled at rhythmic games its like his favourite thing ever and his guardian built him his own ddr that he can practice as much as he wants! its his pride and joy

this thought is constantly in my mind but ive never said it anywhere and im probably not going to phrase this right but one (unintentional) facet of vocaloid ive always loved is how it humanizes women? what i mean is the way that miku (and other vocaloids of course but a lot of the time her) is literally used as a vessel for mainly male producers’ feelings and thoughts, which means that there’s so many songs out there of “miku” getting to just like. be a person? and obviously its usually not HER singing those words really, but it still by proxy allows for the humanizing and desexualizing of her and other female vocaloids, sometimes in the art for a song too, and i just think thats kinda awesome B)
