if you are in my askbox or notes telling me im wrong or i forgot someone you better bring the PowerPoint presentation (im so serious i want you to bestow your knowledge upon me)

corsi corsi corsi: quantity of shots (for and against) matters much more than quality. pros: this is extremely effective and paralyzing to opponents when done right, especially those with bad or middling goalies. cons: requires full team buy-in and is hard to keep up. also you will have at least ten games a season where you are 75% or more on the deserve to win o meter and lose

puck possession: passing is your most important skill. pros: doesn't require physicality to run. versatile against multiple styles. incredibly homoerotic. cons: relies on team chemistry and looks incredibly stupid and pathetic when it's not working. more vulnerable to physicality than most.

neutral zone trap: make nothing happen ever, least of all goals against. pros: completely drags the life out of higher-octane offensive teams. rarely gets blown up and is fairly consistent. cons: you need a good goalie or this won't work.

run and gun: outscore your problems. do it. pros: very very fun to watch. don't really need a goaltender of quality if you're good enough at this. you will have at least one forward in the top ten scorers. cons: you need multiple star forwards. also you will blow, like, half your leads.

suffocating forecheck: who allows "goals against" when you are simply in the offensive zone the whole time? pros: less prone to randomness than other styles which means this (and the neutral zone trap) are what tends to win in playoffs. consistent, dominant, effective. cons: prone to causing (and receiving) injuries. ow!

conceptually i understand that part of the point of hockey is "slam each other into the boards to prevent play from occurring." however i don't get why "target an essential player (or any player) to the point of injury" is allowed. seems wrong to me.

i didn’t even want to play hockey i really was meant to be a speed skater more than anything else but that just wasn’t a thing they had when i was growing up :(

the thing about goalie pulling is that it is an unsustainable hail mary. exactly one team this year scored more goals with the goalie pulled than they allowed empty netters (NYR). BUT! if you are in a situation where you want your goalie pulled, you are *already losing.* is it better, in your opinion, to hope your team chances it out at even strength or to risk losing by larger margin? and if so, how much time are you banking on for them to get it done?
