I wish they had chosen a different voice actress than Rie Kugimiya to play Kouka... She was supposed to sound similar to Kagura, yes, but not exactly the same 🤔

You mentioned having to work at finding Soowon's voice for To All the Ghosts, and I believe you mentioned struggling with Shirayuki's voice in early fics, so my question: do you have a process for finding characters' voices?
Lots of screaming and crying 🤣
Mostly it's something I find through drafts. Some characters come easy (Suzu, for one, because he is such a weirdo), but new characters are always a process, some more than others. Lili was much easier, because she's a character you can KNOW through her dialogue. She wears her heart on her sleeve and so just by reading the manga you have her voice.
Soowon is a much more private character. No one truly know him, not even himself, so you have to piece it together from everyone around him. How he reacts to people. All the things he doesn't say. And so I'll use my first draft to get down lines and actions, stuff I'm generally solid on what he needs to do...and then really flesh out the internal narration in the second draft. Why is he doing this? How does he feel? And since he's incapable of looking an emotion straight in the face, how do i convey that without saying a word of it? 😅
Shirayuki was a similar challenge, because she's so nice. She might get sassy, but she's not snarky. So first draft was what I wanted to get across...and second draft was walking it back to be NICER.

all your OCs look really cool, don't feel bad for wanting to make more if you enjoy it! (Can you tell us more about the ones you are working on?)
Also good luck with the entrance exams!!
Haha, its not that big of a deal, I just have SO MANY drawing ideas with the existing ones already, that each time I make new ones that list just grows and grows and grows.....OTL
Well, like said the pair in question on the sketch I posted earlier are the parents of these two characters of mine; Kouka & Kuromoya (and the aunt and uncle of Kiryo)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rikka, their mother is a kitsune
Kouka's powers manifesting as a fox/the siblings having kitsune masks and red markings on their faces come from her. She runs a Kendo Dojo that belonged to her husbands family that she took over after the previous family members who did run it perished. She was/is close friends with Hanma's sister (Kiryo's mum) which is how she even met him in the first place.
Rikka taught Hanma how to sword-fight, because he used to heavily rely on his powers alone - due to arrogance - and therefore was left vulnerable when unable to use them. He eventually ended up saving her & his sister by using his swordsman skills alone at some point, and the whole experience of losing his powers completely for a brief time taught him some humility & solidified his feelings for Rikka.
Hanma, their dad is an elemental type Soul eater.
The shadow element/the siblings being soul eaters comes from Hanma. (also the darker patches of Kuromoya's skintone comes from him. If he didn't have vitiligo, Kuromoya would have a darker skintone like his dad)
His shadow powers typically manifest as purplish smoke, which he can turn into humanoid figures or dozens and dozens of hands. The shadow mist mostly emits from his mouth/pipe, sometimes his eyes, and under his cape. (Kouka's manifests as solid looking black kitsune tails with hands at the end, and Kuromoya's as a torn looking cape that splits into 3 massive arms)
.........IDK what else to say about them yet, there's still a lot of details I need to figure out lol.
Also thank you! The task in question is kind of complex but not necessarily difficult, I'm just struggling with motivation to work on it lmaooo OTL

thinking about how Soowon and Yona represent a difference between victory through sacrifice and victory through compassion. Soowon is okay with being the bad guy if Kouka ultimately benefits, whereas Yona’s unwavering kindness inspires hope and garners support from even enemies. Soowon gave up every close relationship he had so he wouldn’t be blinded by affection in pursuit of his goals, while Yona’s affections are her very motivation and through them she is able to strengthen herself and those around her. both Yona and Soowon sway others, albeit in different ways. Yona speaks to people’s hearts and their yearning to be better, inspiring them to help her, but Soowon gets to the core of others’ goals and supports their motivations in a way that they end up wanting to be his ally

MINORS DNI 18+ ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 .ᐟ
HAK is already a big guy, but compared to you he’s a goliath. You’re dwarfed when you sit in his lap, or stand next to him. More than a foot of height difference and the sheer width of his broad shoulders makes you look like nothing, withering away in a high wind. When you’d compared your hand size to him, he curled his fingers around you to the second knuckle. Even clinging onto him your fist wraps around his pinky finger. He’s colossal, larger than life, bigger than any man you’ve ever come across. No one compares to Hak. The Lightning Beast of the Kouka Kingdom is breathtaking as a warrior and your personal bodyguard. A single smoldering look melts the courage of even the bravest of men.
You’re proud of him. You hold your head a little higher when he’s by your side, when he takes up the space in a room, and when his protection looms over you like a great tamed creature. To own Hak in the way you do is a privilege, and one you don’t take lightly. He’s made it known he’s entirely yours.
But you feel like his when you’re in his bed. There’s not a word to describe how light he makes you feel, as weightless as a bird in free fall. Your little body is contorted in every conceivable way: he hoists you by your thighs to dribble you on his cock, controlling the pace you go even while you’re on top; thrown underneath him as he folds you in half, your knees pinned to your ears as he plows your hole open and ready for him; and his seemingly personal favorite, flipping you onto your stomach, shoving your cheek into the mattress as he lays his weight on you, sweetly rutting into you from behind. That hand settles into your hair, spanning your scalp from its width, and his cheek kisses yours. The warmth of both of your breaths are swapped as your chest caves from his mass. Soft groans emit from his parted lips, lost in the pleasure you provide.

I had to think about Suwon's decision in ch.256 for a little bit, but I'm ready. His decision to retreat has two sides: a logical one and a personal one.
The reason Suwon kept pushing forward despite the apparent disadvantages was because he analyzed the consequences of a retreat: 1) he doesn't have much time, 2) he had full faith that they could bring this threat under control even without him there, and 3) he can't leave this unfinished for his successor to figure out.
When Suwon is told about the news that the dragons are potentially dead, he approaches the consequences of that from a logical standpoint as well: the country has stood without them in the past, kings come and go, and castles can be rebuilt. By those accounts, this shouldn't have changed his mind, but it did.
The reason things have changed is because while he was talking through this and clearing his head (as much as he's able to anyway), he deemed Yona losing the dragons a bigger threat to Kouka's stability than retreating. For his current plan, he had given up any and all personal hang-ups on Yona ruling with the dragons by her side and just accepted that it was what it was. Y'know, if Il was right all along. Yona losing the dragons, however, means she's not sufficiently equipped for becoming the ruler now. Something has deviated from what he might have been told throughout the years by Il himself.
That's where the personal standpoint comes in.
Tumblr media
When Suwon named Yona his successor, I got the feeling that it was something he decided only after concluding that everything he stood on when it came to his stance on the gods and Il's beliefs was pointless and in vain. Il was right. Yona was King Hiryuu incarnate, she was going to become the ruler of Kouka one day, the dragons would be by her side and the country would be in their hands. It was something he fought against for as long as he had known about it. In the end, he succumbed to it, though.
Until Zeno did what he did.
So we have a destabilized successor, and we have an unknown future that Suwon wants to see unfold before he dies.

Hello!! What do you think of a scenario where a goofy reader goes quiet bc of yoon says something like “can you be serious for one second? I wish you’d just stop!” bc he’s stressed out. Then reader stays quiet for a few hours and the HHB don’t really notice until yoon catches her by herself and realizes she’s crying and was trying to hide she felt bad about it cue clearing misunderstandings and fluff!!
I think that sounds very interesting anon! Thank you for sending this one in! Yoon is so cute and I love writing him. Cue silly squabble followed by fluff! I hope this is good, I'm still a little rusty after prying my way out of writer's block and this is my first time writing a scenario request in a WHILE. But I had so much fun writing him! So once again, thank you! I hope any Yun fans reading enjoy it too.
Side note- I never know how to spell his name. Akayona seems based off of ancient korea with the names at least so Yoon feels right to me but I'm so used to seeing it spelt as Yun! I'll keep to Yoon in the writing for now, but what do you guys think?
Reader pronouns are she/her as used in anon's ask!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yoon
The past few days have been awfully tense for the Happy Hungry Bunch and the Dark Dragon. Resources have been low and all your faces are fresh in the minds of the Kouka citizens. You’re on the run. Your access to village traders and merchants isn’t as lenient as it used to be— you’re forced to wear your hoods over your heads and keep out of sight.
On guard duty, while you and Yoon weren’t looking, a bundle of herbs was carried off by curious critters into the depths of the forest. Luckily, it was nothing you didn’t have seconds of, but resources being as scarce as they were, it weighed on Yoon’s mind quite heavily.
“Crap— What were you doing??? That could’ve— ugh—” The young genius clenched his hands into fists as his mind turned upside down, trying to find a solution that didn’t exist. His fists loosened, and he found nothing but the end of his sentence. “That was at least one injury’s worth of herbs. Those plants don't grow around here.” He said, turning his back to you and crouching near his bag. He knew this wasn’t the time for an argument. He himself didn’t quite have the energy for one either.
"Well, at least the animals won’t have to worry about an injury then," you smirk, trying to ease his mind with a cute joke. You smile at the thought of raccoons putting their opposable thumbs to use with a rock somewhere, pounding the weeds the way you see Yoon do so often.
Unfortunately, your joke didn't quite land with him.
“Are you being serious?” He turns to you as he's crouched.
“I dunno, when am I ever?” You chuckle, not noticing how his tone is darker than it usually is when he banters with you. You smile at him in hopes that your expression would make him realize the situation itself wasn’t as dire as he made it out to be.
Yoon’s brows furrowed, and your smile faded. He rapidly shot up from his spot, his beautiful features scrunched in a scowl.
“Well, would it kill you to be serious for once??” He thundered. You blinked, trying to process his tone, why he was so upset— and why at you. His gaze grew more intense at your silence. “This is no time to be joking around! Do you realize that??? We’re already low on resources as it is, and you know with this group, injuries are as inevitable as there are stars in the sky!”
Yoon bit his lip to try to put a lid on his boiling emotions. This was not the time. He needs to prepare for dinner.
“What’s wrong?” A voice emerges from beyond the tree trunks. Yona hurriedly steps through the beaten path and takes a glance back and forth between your expressions.
“What, are they fighting or something?” Hak strolls in, carrying a stack of twigs in his arm. You stay quiet. You don’t know how to answer that, at least not seriously, you suppose.
“Not really.” Yoon mumbles, turning his back to you once more to sort through the edible flora he’s found throughout the day. “Leave your wood by that trunk, Thunder Beast.”
Your face feels numb at his answer, and you stare at the small back that never failed to support you and everyone else around him. His words echo in your head as footsteps approach you.
“Are you alright?” A dignified voice addresses you, and you look up to see Kija gazing at you with concern laced in his brow. You force a smile.
“Y-Yeah! Why wouldn’t I be? Yoon and I kinda messed up a bit, that’s all… Some raccoons had their way with some of his herbs.” You mutter, busying yourself by taking some materials the returning group brought back.
Kija eyed you with concern as you set down some dry leaves for kindle, but didn’t pry.
---------------------------
The tree branches rustled as the wind carried night across the sky. The fire lapped at the cold air of the season, and dinner was ready. Scooping some soup into some wooden bowls, Yoon bellowed the signal.
“Okay, good work everyone! Dinner’s ready.”
Six bodies crowded around the pot. Yoon raised a brow at the odd void he felt after seeing everyone present— everyone but you.
“Where’s Y/N?”
His question incited many heads to turn and scan the area.
“Ah… come to think of it, she said she’d be going to the bathroom…” Jaeha noted. “Quite some time ago,” he smirked awkwardly, trying to mask his worry as he noted the different colour of the sky now as opposed to when you spoke to him.
Concern began to shape Yoon’s features. “A while ago? Which way did she go?” His heart and mind began to race. His eyes wavered as he stood, and he set the ladle down in the pot filled with a concoction of gruel and herbs.
“She stepped off somewhere that way. I’ll take Shinah with me, so you can sit tight, Yoon. I’ll bring your little darling back soon.” Jaeha winked. Yoon felt his cheeks warm.
 “She’s not!—” The pretty boy genius cut himself off as he swallowed his pride. This was not the time to fall for Jaeha’s antics. He sifted through the possible fates you might be subject to while his eyes aren’t on you, and a sudden pang hit his chest. At the same moment, Yoon struck an odd realization.
Were you bothered by what he said earlier?
Concern started to blur into frustration, annoyance, and guilt. “God… you idiot! What a pain...” He exclaimed under his breath. “Ugh, I’ll look for her! I need to talk to her!” He blurted, hurriedly gathering a few supplies and setting off towards the direction Jaeha pointed in.
------------------------
It didn’t take long for Yoon to find you. You were a little ways out by the river. When he found you, the moonlight kissed your tears as they fell. You were hugging your knees as you watched the steady flow of the stream. The young boy clenched his chest in an attempt to quell an ache he knew he caused.
“Hey, Y/N—” He stepped closer to you, feeling his cheeks warm from the awkward predicament he’s put himself in. He tried to gather the words, but they just didn’t seem to want to come out. “You know, I—”
“I’m sorry,” you managed to say. He held his tongue. His throat felt tight.
That was his line.
“We’re dying just to survive— and I’m making light of things, I’m sorry. You were right.” You muttered through your sleeves as you wiped your disobedient tears. Yoon blinked. That’s not what he wanted to hear, and he was sure that wasn’t not the point you wanted to come to.
“That’s— That’s not it, Y/N, I—” He sighed. He set down his makeshift light source and sat down a ruler’s distance from you. “I’m the one who should be saying sorry. I completely went overboard—” He turned his gaze to the river. “I shouldn’t have raised my voice at you like that.” He balled his hands into fists on his lap as he fretted over you dimming your warm radiance all because of him. As silly as you were, your idiocy kept the group smiling on some of your worst nights— some of his worst nights— and was a warmth that was irreplaceable in his eyes. “We might be dying to survive, but— w-we can afford to spare a few weeds here and there.” He spoke haughtily.
His blue eyes shined as he lifted his gaze. He took a few shy glances at you before mumbling.
“A-At least the animals won’t have to worry about an injury anymore, right?”
You turned to him in surprise. His cheeks were red and he looked away when you looked at him. A smile creeped on your lips— that one definitely landed for you.
"Yeah. Do you think raccoons would grind the herbs the way you do? They've got opposable thumbs, don't they?"
His eyes widened as his gaze returned to you. Your smile was infectious, and he began to feel its symptoms.
"You idiot." He whispered. "Even if they did, they wouldn't be able to do it half as well as I can."
With that, you both chuckled in each other's company before you made your way back for dinner.
About Soowon...
Personally, I really think that he is going to die and there’s nothing to do with it. Kusanagi sensei will make his passing be very dramatic, and I’m looking forward to it. I hope he can finally speak for himself and expresses his true point of view about his feelings and how he suffered with the family dilemma. What we've seen of him so far is basically other people's visions and desires, which were implanted in him as an obligation, a revenge that I don't feel he really buys it but sells because he feels trapped and without options after everything that's happened. I really think he loves/loved Yona and Hak, but the choices were made and even though he was confused and didn't know how to react, if he didn't do what he was trained to there would be consequences. They made the boy grow up with the weight of Kouka on his shoulders, and he was forced to choose between 2 people and the whole kingdom. To server the bonds of friendship with Hak and Yona must have hurt him emotionally as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The old Soowon is still there suppressed by all the adulthood drama, but we haven't seen that fully vulnerable emotional side of Sowoon yet. So Kusanagi sensei, please, make my cry when the time comes!
He´s really a selfish person, isn´t he?
A person that had hardly any childhood due to Yona´s own father, and that tried to fix this country, Kouka, by choosing and strenghtening people that either already were pillars of that country or became ones by his actions, is supposed to be selfish?
Maybe? But he thought it through and came to the conclusion, while he tried to secure the borders of this country, that Yona might have a chance to care for the people she claimed to care so much about...
how do you feel with all the people calling soo won aromantic because of his scene with lily when he said he doesnt really understand romance or love but he likes people?
Hello, @spriderlili,
It is a very interesting question. Thank you for asking, but keep in mind my response might be biased as I am personally not a fan of labels, and the fandom gives him plenty of silly ones, so most of the time I am - Even if he is dying, you don't have to be in a hurry to pick out a label for his gravestone quite yet, thank you. - kind of mood.
But I'll elaborate on this particular one.
The word 'aromantic' has a very vague meaning - little or no romantic attraction to others
Does it mean unable to have/devoid of romantic feelings? Or is it referring to people who have never had romantic feelings in their entire lifetime?
For the former, no, he is not devoid of/unable to have emotions - a sociopath or psychopath (I know they call him that, but he is neither) He feels, pain, anger, sympathy, joy, longing, etc., etc., as we have seen in multiple instances, so it doesn't make sense to just be unable/devoid of only romantic feelings.
If it is the latter, we are a little too early to say anything, because despite being "king" and wise beyond his years we often forget that Soo-won is only eighteen years old. Even if we go with the average lifetime of a person being 60 years old, he hasn't even completed half.
Tumblr media
Now, is it referring to how he was unaware of Yona's feelings or how he doesn't understand the emotions of love or romance? Or how he seems to not really have attachments to people?
I do not believe the answer to these is - 'aromantic'
To make it a little clear, let's take Yona.
Why was she able to understand romantic love and why is Soo-won unable to?
Why was she able to love and adamantly insist on marrying Soo-won without considering anything else?
1. Because she had the freedom to be a child.
2. She had the freedom to be immature.
3. She had emotional freedom and creative freedom which were not restricted by adult burdens.
4. She was taken care of by a loving parent and allowed healthy emotional development.
For Soo-won, it is the opposite.
The privilege to be a child, the privilege to be immature, the privilege to rely on others, love immaturely, quit immaturely - he lost all that to the dream of making Kouka strong and secure.
Sure, that was his choice, but it was not his choice to lose a major source of parental affection & guidance while the remaining semblance of one was just a wreck.
Children are naturally emotionally reliant on their parents/guardian. So, what happens when a reliable source of emotional stability is just knocked out from right beneath their feet? Where do they put their feet?
For Soo-won, I believe it was in the memories of his father. This is sometimes seen in the way we see him clinging to the memories of his father for guidance.
So,
1. Heavy responsibilities, even the adults did not bother to do.
2. A limited social circle, predominantly made up of adults.
3. A fudging time limit.
It's like asking an athlete with a hundred miles left to the finish line and a 20 minute time limit if he could solve your algebra homework on the way.
I am not saying Soo-won is emotionally underdeveloped either. He is very excellent at controlling his emotions as we have seen. I'd say he is emotionally exhausted.
Romance is not in his priorities.
Romantic attraction is something generally experienced in leisure, when there is freedom to express the heart, when there is that subconscious freedom to trust your heart with another person.
Soo-won is not like Yona. She constantly has Hak or the four dragons whom she can be vulnerable with.
Who do we see Soo-won constantly be vulnerable with?
He has not had emotional freedom.
In the age to run, play, make mistakes, he had already become sensible, self- reliant, set in his beliefs — he's already run half the course before he even turned eighteen while the greatest worry for girls around his age was probably Geun-Tae getting married.
That's a major bandwidth problem.
I think we can all agree that based on what we have seen so far, Soo-won is not a love at first sight person. If he is going to fall in love with someone it is going to be a gradual process.
So, the person at least needs to be someone who can understand his views and talk to him on equal ground. Someone whom he can be emotionally free with. Someone whom he can eventually be vulnerable with.
Lili is a great example (Yes, I won't miss an opportunity to ship my top couple, but also seriously...)
Prior to the story's start Lili was probably just a love sick teen pining after Geun-Tae, but by the time Soo-won's coronation is over she is aware of the water tribe's major issues.
She wants to help, tries, fails miserably, tries again, gets help, slowly matures enough to be able to command the respect of the tribe in her own name.
Among all of Soo-won's female acquaintances introduced in the story so far which you can count on one hand she is the closest to have come to understanding the reality underlying Soo-won's decisions.
So, my point is, maturity wise, girls around his age circle are just catching up.
When there is someone (preferably Lili) whom he is comfortable with expressing his thoughts and emotions to, someone who actually understands him (Not like Hak), he'll eventually come to understand what it means to hold romantic affection for another person.
He just needs time and the right person.
An illustration of my AU fanfic, "The Story of the Demon Cat." It is based on Japanese and Chinese folklore.
15-year-old Kye-sook knew he could not survive an illness. To prolong his life, he made a soul tie with the demon cat spirit on the mountain and became its possessor. In return, it could use his body whenever it wanted, and he had to help it find the priest who had taken and hidden its bones. Then the memories of people who lived in the general's mansion were cleared, and no one remembered Kye-sook's existence anymore.
Ten years later, because of the vow with Yu-hon's family and the prophecy "The King of Kouka will die at the age of 18," Kye-sook decided to take a royal scholar exam and became the advisor to protect Soo-won. Then he discovered that the priest who had taken the bones of the demon cat, Kan Soo-jin, was now the royal high priest...
You know what? I really fucking like what they're doing with Su-Won. It would've been so ready to make him a scumbag or a predatory pretty boy who wants to possess Yona at any cost. But instead, he's something closer to a G-rated Griffith, someone who genuinely cares for his people and does everything he can to ensure the kingdom of Kouka prospers. He knows full well that killing King Il was a sin, but he still believed it a necessary evil. All of his actions, even the most despicable, are made with the intent of being the best ruler for good people that he can possibly be.
And that makes his relationship with Yona so goddamm fascinating. Because through Yona's travels, we've seen all sorts of reasons why Su-Won kind of had a point! King Il may have sought peace, but his laissez Faire approach to governing let so much corruption and ruin slip through the cracks in his kingdom. His ideals were noble, but blindly pursuing peace with no regard to the effort of making that peace stable arguably caused as much damage as fighting endless wars would have. And Yona's had to accept, over and over again, that she needs to stray from her father's path and get her hands dirty to fix the messes he left behind. So really, Su-Won and her are on the same side now, fighting for the same ideals. But he's still the man who killed her father. And now Yona has to grapple with the realization that not only does she agree with a lot of the reasons that drove Su-Won to regicide, but that he may just end up being the king that Kouka desperately needs, thus kind of justifying killing her dad in the first place.
Jesus.
More stuff for the Cyberpunk AU. This time with Kuromoya and his right hand woman, Aimi (she belongs to my friend @mad-hatter-rici)
I decided to give his group a different name than just his surname, given his family DOES have a "legitimate" bathhouse business as well led by Kuro's sister Kouka (Who's the actual boss for Foxglove too, Kuro is just the "pretty faced representative" as he puts it lol)
Kuromoya's glowing tattoos are the symbol of his "Hex" power, which in this AU still consists of three giant shadow hands with eyes and a mouth he can summon and use. In the main story his power glows green, but for this one it just looked better red. I also kinda finished Kuromoya first, then drew Aimi into this, so the perspective and pose for her might be a bit off....
While making this I was once again reminded of just how much I hate designing shoes lmao
I am pissed at Su-Won this chapter (RANT) ch 242 spoilers *Don't read if you don't want to be spoiled*
See stuff like him disregarding the state of Kuuto, the Earth Tribe, and the dragons really makes me think ONCE again that his ambitions are about doing what his father wants rather than for the “country” which is actually giving him such an awful look this chapter dude…
Like I get he's ill, and that's likely making him in such a rush to get to the South Kai capital and make Kouka the glorious empire that his father wished it to be....
But he’s not thinking about the casualties on Kouka’s side at all. What happened to
Tumblr media
Huh????
Like I cannot tell if this is a writing problem or a Su-Won problem. Either way I am PISSED off at this character. It's off when not only Kija, but even Su-Won supporters like Judo, Kye-Sook and Geun-tae are going "Uh, Heika? Wtf are you doing :I"
And it's like "Su-Won are you REALLY doing this for the country boy???? OKAY, then why is Kouka in such a bad shape right now????”
Edit: So I made a mistake, even “keeping sacrifices to a minimum is my job” was a bluff. Maybe this is consistency? I guess I might just hate Su-Won LOL, cause I don’t see how he’s being “intelligent” as he’s proclaimed to be at all.
