Hi, sorry if this is a weird question, but do you ever feel lonely in tf2? I've been playing for a few months now and while it's mostly been fun I always get this dreadful feeling when the match ends and everybody leaves. I also haven't made any friends which makes me sad. Have you made friends and if yes, how?
that feeling of loneliness has existed in the heart of every TF2 player since the Meat Your Match update.
it is difficult to meet people in casual unless you're an active participant in chat, or somebody else goes out of their way to interact with you specifically.
i find it really enjoyable to type in chat (even with the chance that 40% of the time i do it's spammed by bigoted jerks), and at the beginning of most of my games i start by sending "hi everyone! im googoo. lets all have fun together ok?" and more often than i get called annoying or cringe, im met with people saying "hi googoo!" and "gl hf!" (good luck have fun), which feels nice.
be ready to up and leave games if things become TOO heinous (what constitutes "too heinous" is up to your own discretion), but also dont be afraid to stick it out and talk with some of the other weirdos who play this 17 year old game.
sometimes, talking with people who are dickheads can be fruitful too.
one time, i was playing in casual and i met a stereotypical edgelord toxic tf2 player. they were typing shitty things in chat and had a bigoted name on one of their weapons. i called them out, and said "that's a weird way to act, most people will find it odd". as a result, they were teasing me and calling me names during the game, but i still played along side them. after a while, when they noticed that i was still being a helpful teammate to them and letting them take health packs/extinguishing them/protecting them, they were like "why are you helping me after i was a dick to you" in voice, but i ignored them. from then on they werent verbally abusive anymore.
the game continued, and they were speaking more in voice chat, specifically to me mostly, but i never responded. and after a while they said disappointedly "did googoo mute me?" and i said "no i didnt mute you." and he said "why do you still help me? even after ive been an asshole" and i said something along the lines of "i want to be a team player, and you are a part of my team. i dont want to be vindictive, because i dont think that's right. it wouldnt be helpful. i just wish you were a kinder person" and they said "oh. ok" in a really sad way.
after the game they left this comment on my steam profile.

and a few weeks later, they deleted it without another word.
the point of this story is that even as unapproachable as people seem, and as unapproachable as they will make themselves, every person playing has some degree of rationality and understanding, and they want to be a part of the normal social world too. some of them just dont really know how to.

There is mainly two head types in the pack, Matoran Universe head and Agori/Glatorian head. Had to differentiate them cause apparently they have different eye heights and the latter type is a lot less forgiving in space

The Matoran Universe head is compatible with Mata, Metru, Okoto connections (except Hewkii Mahri's Garai, rip, also prolly Teridax's Kraahkan). The Agori/Glatorian head is compatible with Agori/Glatorian, HF Breakout, HF Brain Attack (screw HF 2.0 and 3.0 heads)
(Edit) Things to note about the models:
-Garai is incompatible due to space needed for the Okoto's mask connections, may be revised soon
-had to cut a bit of the bar from the HF Brain Attack to make the head fit into Agori/Glatorian helmets
-Agori/Glatorian heads are smushed to make sure Brain Attack visor+helmet fits
-the heads are a little bit taller (half an axle/pin taller) for light pipings
-will prolly edit the models soon so the light pipings will work better, especially for the nyan head
-idk why but stud.io seem to make the parts ricochet wildly when inserted

Ahhh!! Thank you friend! I *adored* thinking about this 🥰🥰🥰 Incoming lore dump :D I think a lot about what the culture of Miri's pack in the High Forest would be like as wild lythari elves with little contact with outsiders. Lythari, I imagine, don't necessarily have *weddings* as we consider it. As a small tribal people, the grand, opulent ceremonies we think of for weddings likely wouldn't make sense. It would, however, make sense to celebrate the pack growing - either by gaining a new member or by the potential for cubs to be sired (most lythari are *born*, rather than turned). I imagine the pack holds a celebration of the couple bonding - and that the *mating ritual* itself is quite an affair for the pair (a la the wedding night/honeymoon wink wink). So for this answer, *pre-ceremony* is what precedes the mating ritual portion.
What Forgotten Realms lore does confirm (across all resources) about lythari is that they have a sacred mating ritual wherein a consenting non-lythari partner (if an elf) is bitten by their lythari partner and the lycanthropy is passed to them. (It only works for elves, so no werewolf Gale, sorry).
The lore suggests that the partner also gains a permanent mark that resembles a wolf bite. So I like to imagine that lythari pairs would still bite one another to gift this mark and signify their mating bond (like a wedding ring)! As Halsin says, “The wolf mates for life. The bear, however, roams free.” This all leads me to believe that lythari are known (at least by wood elves from the HF) to be monogamous, and this mark would signify their permanent bond to their partner. All this to say:
I imagine that Miri and Gale would have two different 'weddings'. One more traditional, in Waterdhavian style, for Gale and the Dekarios clan. The other, a sacred mating bond ritual, for Miri and the Adahlen'i lythari. (fun fact, Adalhen'i is based on the dalish *adahlen*, for 'forest', and an *'i* suffix, after latin, to mean 'of the'.)
Anywho- On to the answers! :)

4. Pre-Ceremony Events - Are there any special events, ceremonies, rituals, or preparations the couple must do before the wedding day? Ritual cleansing, asking a parent for the character's hand, mehndi/henna painting, little pre-ceremony games or challenges, etc?
Gale's traditional wedding: This stuff has been tumbling around my brain for ages - and instead of blithering on about usual wedding pre-ceremony traditions like a rehearsal dinner or not seeing each other before hand... I want to talk about rings. There is a canon Waterdeep tradition (shared here) where each person will have a ring crafted, which will then be split in half and fused together to make a matching pair of 'union' rings to be worn on the middle finger. These rings are worn around the neck until the wedding ceremony when they are exchanged. So I have been obsessed with the idea that Miri and Gale would both get rings crafted to match one another's eyes (you know, like those cute af trends of couples making matching bracelets or getting matching nail polish). Wearing their respective bands around their neck would become a symbol of the other's loving gaze. And then once they are split and fused, they would each have a ring to remind one another of the profound tenderness and love they see in one another's eyes. (excuse me I'm not crying, you are) For Miri - I think she would choose something like this, a dark metal inlaid with a beautiful wood like mahogany that shines with rich shades of brown and changes in the sun. Maybe with an added stone that looks like the aurora from when they first confessed. Extra points if she retrieved the wood herself from somewhere special.

For Gale - Ohhh, out grand gesture beloved. Gale would go out of his way to find the exact perfect gemstone or metal to match the greens of Miri's eyes. He would put hours into researching the quality of the stone and how to find the best one and the best quality, that would have the right durability for Miri's rough and tumble lifestyle. And it would have to be the perfect color because he would be staring absent mindedly at his own ring so often he would know whether it was right or not. And it would have to be significant somehow, and on and on... And no silver, of course. So I picture him getting something like jade or malachite (emeralds are way too soft)

Miri's lythari mating ritual: This celebration would be smaller, more intimate (but no less raucous). The ceremony would be held in the High Forest, near where Miri was born (a way of symbolizing the circle of life in Nature).
I imagine the celebration would include an exchanging of vows by the to-be-bonded pair. A commitment before the pack and their goddess, Mielikki. (Cute shit like "You are my mate - I am bonded to you for eternity, and I shall never leave your side. I shall love you, guard you, and keep you, for all of your days. Our bond is sacred, and I shall worship and praise you through this life, and into the afterlife.") Pack members receive their tattoos as a sacred coming-of-age ritual - and I like to imagine that a non-lythari partner is painted with a temporary version of their mate-to-be's tattoos prior to the ceremony. Perhaps by a trusted loved one, or by their beloved. From there the celebration would be very typical of most cultures - food, drink, song, and dance. Revelry for hours. Perhaps there is a hunt before hand to ensure there is plentiful meat, and there are bottles of pack-brewed wines and meads and ciders flowing freely into the evening.
At some point during the revelry the pair themselves will quietly slip away from the gathering - Miri will take Gale to some secluded space she used to hold dear - and then they will being their mating ritual in earnest. The revelry, meanwhile, continues until the wee hours - celebrating the couple coming together (and maybe the chance for cubs- someday.)

16. Wedding Party - Are there bridesmaids, groomsmen, attendants, special witnesses? Are they dressed a certain way or positioned in a special spot? In both cases: I imagine they would invite all of their friends - the near and dear companions able to make it (perhaps with some assistance from Withers, a la the epilogue party). And you can bet Miri would find a way to involve their fuzzier companions, too - Tara, Lupus, Corvus, Scratch, even their Owlbear. Gale's traditional wedding: I am a big ol' sentimental softie and I cannot picture these two blorbos getting married without having their companions serving as their wedding party. Standing beside them as they declare their love in front of officiant, guests, and pantheon. Groomsmen: Astarion, Wyll, Halsin. Bridesmaids: Karlach, Lae'zel, Shadowheart. Officiant: Either Jaheira, Withers, or perhaps another. But I expect it would probably be a secular at least agnostic ceremony. Scratch and Lupus can be flower-girl equivalents. Corvus can fly in the rings. Gale implies a few times throughout the game that he was part of Waterdeep's high society (attending soirees, owning a tower in the city) - undoubtedly true, as he was an archmage. So I imagine, given Waterdeep nobles are considered 'heavy handed spenders', that their traditional wedding would be a bit on the *larger*, more lavish side. As such the dress code would be at minimum semi-formal, if not formal outright - the wedding party would be dressed accordingly. (See any number of excruciatingly beautiful clothing mods people have created for examples of appropriate shiny silks, fancy embroideries, opulent colors and divine tailoring...)
Miri's lythari mating ritual: For this smaller ceremony, I do not think there would be a bridal party, per say. But I do think they would want their companions to be there to bear witness and to celebrate with them. Everything in the High Forest is centered around survival, and thus practicality is the name of the game for attire. Lythari do not wear fine fabrics and prefer their own hand-crafted leathers and furs, accessorized with feathers and beautiful hand carved bone and stone pieces. I would expect anyone participating to dress similarly - and to be barefoot. I could see a tribal ceremony including an exchanging of vows, perhaps beneath an ancient tree to bear sacred witness. Furthermore, there are several other sacred rituals in Miri's pack specifically that involve clerics of Mielikki, if not Mielikki herself. So I imagine a cleric would be present to bless their union. I would not be surprised if Miri would ask Halsin if he would participate somehow as a former archdruid and servant of Silvanus.

German Arkadievich Semerov (born 1931) is a Soviet painter. Born on August 9, 1931 in Leningrad. In 1958 he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. C. Repin, Faculty of Painting - Head of Diploma M. P. Bobyshev. The beginning of creative work in 1962. Works in the genres of thematic painting, landscape, still life. After graduating from the institute, he worked at the State Russian Drama Theater (Minsk), taught painting, drawing at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute. The main themes of the artist's works are historical and revolutionary, military, subjects about the work and life of his contemporaries, portraits. He wrote a number of articles on fine arts for the magazine "Artist", in 1969 the publishing house "Soviet Russia" published his book "Puts to Art". Member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1970. He was elected chairman of the audit commission of the board of the Ministry of Fine Arts (1971-1973), a member of the commission for work in rural areas, a member of the creative group of Podolsk artists, worked in the art council for painting in the Podolsk HPM. The works were purchased by the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the HF of Russia, are in private collections in Russia, Belarus, Germany, the USA, Turkey, France, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria.

Hey there, is Guri here. You may know me from years or unfortunately for all the drama before HF shutdown. All this situation is getting a lot put of hand for me, and I wanted to reach out here in order to explain what happened on my side ( if anything is worder incorrectly, please let me know, English is not my first language.)
Ok, so... About the doc. Some people may have read it already, and may not know what it means because the wording wasn't the better but I'll give some context. It was a story from a villain character POV on their abussive relationship with other character, both of the characters are from my creation. "Did the doc contained grooming?" No, both characters are adults. The villain character met the other character once when it was small and then didn't met each other after the other one was adult. "Did the doc had sexual content?" No, the "love bites" were a trait I gave to my characters subspecies, but since the character in question was a villain, the bites used to happen a lot more than usual. "Did the doc had zoophilia?" no, both characters are animals. "Did the doc had non-con/rape?" No, all the doc is basically the villain saying that they love biting the second character and that they love the taste of the blood. "What does the [ But she had a body I can't recall her to have] then?" the original concept of the character was a normal bipedal Utahraptor with some feathers, later was revamped to a quadrupedal more "cat-like" creature. That line meant that the character used to remember the other as s feathered normal Utahraptor, and now that they are adults, seeing her as a completely new creature with different features is weird. "What does [ swollen womb] means?" pregnancy, thought it would be another way to say it. The doc had a trigger warning on the very top and was censored entirely, to ensure the safety of sensitive readers. But many people ignored it.
I haven't groomed anyone, I'm not a pedophile, I'm not a zoophile. My characters does not define me, I'm sorry if anyone has felt uncomfortable with the doc. I truly thought that putting a warning and censoring it would be fine. The server in which was posted was a +17 server, which a few 16 years old members. No one has reached to me about the docs until noodles did on a report ticket, I got a final warning and got my pack rep removed and accepted the punishment. But aside from that, I haven't done anything. I would like to ask for the harassment and lies about me to stop, saying that im a pedophile, zoophile, that i promote incest, rape and other horrible things is not true, even I heard that some people were saying that they had proof of me grooming people and that there was a supposed victim. Of course, when you asked for the evidence, none was provided aside from the doc.
I been banned from server which I haven't played on, all for a doc that staff decided it was not banneable. Getting into my personal space and insulting my family is also not ok, while I won't blame the entire dentem et pluma pack even if the comments they made about me were horrible and I had never talked about them that way, one thing is insulting me as a player, other different is including my husband as Snail did. I make this announcement as an attempt for people to also see my side of things, that I am sorry for how everything took place and that even if horrible things were said towards me, I mean no ill intentions towards my aggressors that as long you didn't insulted my family. Guys, this is a dinosaur game, it's totally ok to not be friends with everyone but what is not ok is harassing, insulting and getting in the personal life of someone over a dino game. Stop the doxxing too, stop judging the private lives of members. If anyone would like to talk about what happened and have a fresh start/make amends. My DMs are always open.

HF - Writing System

The Sects have a rudimentary writing system made up of symbols. It's used primarily to warn each other of dangers and to mark their territory. The River Sect has a larger system, which they use to carve stories into their clay pots.
Symbols can be combined to create more meaning. For example, "Moon" and "Bird" placed next to each other means "Owl". "Death" and "Holy Place" next to each other signifies a burial ground. Symbols for predators are often found next to "Danger" or "Caution", to really drive the point home.
Numbers 1 through 9
Nine, five, and four are deeply important numbers in Sect culture. There are four Sects, a cat has five claws on their front paws, and a leader gets nine lives. Since nine is the highest of these numbers, that's the highest the Sects' numerical system goes.
When a number goes past nine, you will find another number added to it (Ex; "Nine" and "Four", meaning thirteen).

"Many"
Used when the number of something is too high to count.

"Sun / Day" and "Moon / Night"
Not found often on its own, these symbols are typically paired with another one to alter its meaning (Ex; "Moon" and "Bird" mean owl, "Sun" and "Wolf" mean dog).

Sect Symbols
Used to mark territory. It's not uncommon to see different Sect symbols in the same place; it means that the area has traded paws throughout history.
The "River Sect" symbol is occasionally used in Thunder Sect to mark the existence of water!
The "Sky Sect" symbol, however, is only found in one place- the Deadpines- and only if you go deep enough. Modern cats are unaware of its existence- and if they've somehow happened to see it, they won't know what it means.

"Danger"
Not usually found on its own, this symbol is typically paired with a predator symbol, "Poison", or "Sick". In Wind Sect, you may also find it alongside "Tunnel", to mark that a tunnel is dangerous and may collapse.

"Snake"
Marks that a snake (or several, when paired with a number) has made a home there. Snakestones on Thunder Sect territory has this symbol carved into the trees surrounding it, alongside "Many", "Poison", and "Danger".

"Wolf / Hound"
When alone, it marks that a single wolf has made a home nearby. Alongside the symbol "Many", it means that a pack of wolves live nearby.
As stated under "Sun / Day" and "Moon / Night", adding the sun symbol changes wolf to dog.

"Bird"
On its own, this symbol most often means hawk or eagle. When paired with "Moon", the meaning changes to owl. Adding "Prey" to "Bird" means that this is a place where smaller birds (thrushes, sparrows, etc) like to hang out.

"Alligator / Crocodile"
This is a symbol found only on Shadow Sect territory, but it's an important one. It warns that an alligator or crocodile lives nearby.

"Moose / Elk"
A pissed off moose is no way to lose your life. This symbol warns that moose or elk like to stop by the area, so be alert!

"Fish"
Surprisingly, this symbol is uncommon even in River Sect. It's really only used when paired with "Danger", warning that there's a pike or other such fish in the area.

"Fox", "Bear", "Badger", "Bobcat", "Cougar", and "Coyote"
Used to mark the fact that a den or hunting ground of one of these predators is nearby.

"Turtle"

Porting Models from Dragon Age: Inquisition to Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age 2
Part 3: Converting Textures using Paint.NET
Tools needed: Paint.NET BoltBait's Plugin Pack
In hindsight, I probably should have started with this tutorial. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ For reference, I'll be converting the HF "prisoner" model (largely unused in Inquisition; only female NPC I could find using it is the infected woman in Sahrnia Quarry) I chose this model because it doesn't have any transparency or exposed skin. If your model does have exposed skin, you'll have to paste the outfit map together with the skin texture map, and adjust the model's UV map accordingly, unless you're using one of the very rare DAI models whose skin texture is on the outfit diffuse.
Normal Map:
I usually start with the normal map, since I follow magpie's method and paste it onto the diffuse. So, let's open up that DAI normal map. It should look like this:

If you're used to Photoshop, the first thing you'll likely notice is that it hasn't been nicely divided into RBG layers. That's something we're going to have to do ourselves. A lot.
Hopefully, you'll see a Layers box, probably on the far right. If not, hit F7 to bring it up. Now click 'Duplicate Layer' at the bottom of the Layers box.
DAI puts the X in the red channel, and Y in the green, while DAO and DA2 have X in the alpha channel, and inverted Y in the green.
With the upper layer selected, use Curves or Levels (both under 'Adjustments') to reduce the red and blue output to 0. Then do the same with the lower layer, reducing green and blue output to 0.
Using Curves: Change the Transfer Map to RBG, and uncheck the box for the color you want to keep. Then reduce the other colors to zero by clicking on the tiny dot in the upper right, and dragging it to the lower right. Hit 'OK'.

Using Levels: Uncheck the box for the color you want to keep, then reduce the other colors' Output to zero by either clicking on the uppermost bar and dragging it to the bottom, or by changing the 255 to 0. Hit 'OK'.

Now, turn each layer to grayscale with the Adjustments menu, Black and White+. Change the 'Conversion Algorithm' dropdown to 'Maximum Method'. To help keep the layers straight, you may want to rename them by double-clicking on the layer in the Layers box, or clicking the little wrench.
DAO and DA2 both use an inverted Y map, so you'll need to invert the colors. With the Y layer selected in the Layers box, do Select+A to select the entire image, then Ctrl+Shift+I to invert. Your Y layer should look like it's an stamped impression of your texture--concave when it should be convex--while your X layer will pop out like the actual texture.

The next step involves transparency, so we should do a save as a PDN in case we later need to go back and make adjustments to the individual layers. (other image formats will combine the layers - "flatten" - so it's good practice to save a PDN before saving into another format, or combining layers manually)
In the Layers box, hide the Y layer with the checkbox, and make sure you have the X layer selected. Then do Ctrl+A to select the whole image, and Ctrl+C to copy.
Then unhide the Y, and hide the X.
In the Effects menu, go to Object, Paste Alpha. Make sure you have 'Replace current Alpha with' 'Shades of gray from clipboard' selected, and hit 'ok'.

Now we almost have a proper DAO normal map! :D Despite the color, it'll work fine in DA2, too. (DAO & DA2 both read Y from the green channel and X from the alpha, but DAO has duplicates of the Y in both red & blue, while DA2 has a perfectly red red channel and all-black blue channel).
If you want to mimic the DA2 orange, you can undo the transparency for now, then add another layer in the Layers box. Move this one above the Y, and fill it with red FF0000. Using the Curves or Levels adjustment, change the Y to fully green. Double-click the all-red layer, and change the Blend mode to 'Additive'. In the Layers box, use the Merge Layers Down button to merge the red onto the Y. Then copy the X, and use Paste Alpha.

Delete the X layer.
Save as a .dds. The only setting you'll need to change from the defaults is to put the compression at BC3 (Linear, DXT5).
Diffuse Map:
Open up both the diffuse map and the specular. You'll probably notice that the diffuse map looks rather flat compared to DAO & DA2 maps. We're going to fix that by overlaying a bit of the normal and specular maps (thanks again, magpie!!).
First, we need to separate the specular map into RGB layers. Use the Layers box to make two duplicates of the base layer. Like with the normal map, you can use either the Curves tool (Adjustments, Curves) or the Levels tool (Adjustments, Levels) to make the three color channels.
With either method, Paint.NET remembers your last adjustment, so you'll have to undo it when you change the next color layer. You should end up with the layers like this:

Go back to your diffuse map.
If your diffuse has transparency, make a duplicate layer, and turn the bottom one into a transparency layer with Effect, Object, Switch Alpha to Gray. Hide this layer. We won't be using it again for a while. Turn the other layer completely opaque by clicking Adjustments, Transparency, and moving the slider all the way to the right.
Make two new blank layers above your diffuse layer.
Open back up the normal map PDN you made earlier, and copy the Y layer.
Paste the normal Y layer into the lower blank layer on the diffuse map.
Go to the specular map, copy the green layer, and paste it into the upper blank layer on the diffuse map. Sometimes one of the maps isn't the same size as the other. In that case, first adjust the size with Image, Resize. The sizes are multiples of 256, usually 1024x1024, 2048x2048, or 4096x4096.
Run the Black and White tool to turn the specular layer grayscale. Do the same to the normal layer, if it's the orange DA2-style. (You can close the normal PDN if you want now; we don't be using it again. Keep the specular map open, though.)
Your diffuse map and layers should currently look like this:

Hide the spec layer, and double-click the normal layer.
Change the Blend Mode to 'Overlay', and play with the opacity slider a bit. You can see that creases/shading are added, but the colors are also whiter. I usually end up with the norm opacity in the 170-190 range. You might want to invert the normal layer (Ctrl+Shift+I), or use the X normal layer instead. See what works best. :)
Unhide the spec layer, and set its Blend Mode to 'Overlay' as well. Play around with the opacity slider. This darkens the map and adds contrast. I usually end up with the spec opacity around 130.

If your combined texture doesn't quite look right, you can also try different adjustments to the diffuse. Keeping all layers visible, have the diffuse layer selected in the Layers box, and try one of the Adjustment tools. The ones I use most commonly are Brightness & Contrast and Hue & Saturation.
If you want to do larger recoloration, the tint map can be quite useful to select all areas of a certain component: Open up the DAI tint map, and copy it. Back on the diffuse map, make a new blank layer above the diffuse layer, and paste the tint map into it. The Magic Wand tool in the tools box will select a contiguous area of the same/similar color (the Tolerance scale at the top is used to set how picky it is). Holding Shift and then clicking will grab all areas of the matching color. Once you have a selection in the tint layer, hide the tint layer in the Layers box, and select the diffuse layer. Now any edits you do will only affect that selected area of the diffuse layer. I'm going to use the Color Balance tool to change the cloth shirt to light blue, and the leather straps & pants to brown.

Once you're done with your edits, save the diffuse map as a PDN.
Delete the tint layer if you have it, merge the normal layer onto the diffuse, and then the specular onto the normal/diffuse combined layer. (merging the specular onto the normal and then onto the diffuse will result in a slight color difference)
If you have a transparency layer, we are now going to apply it.
Select the transparency layer in the Layers box, then use Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C to select and copy the entire image. Select the merged diffuse layer in the Layers box, then use Effect, Object, Paste Alpha. Delete the transparency layer.
Save as a .dds. Diffuse maps without transparency should be set to BC1 (Linear, DXT1), while maps with transparency should be BC3 (Linear, DXT5).
Specular Map:
A specular map consists of two layers: the main layer, and a transparency layer. The main layer controls what color is reflected, while the transparency layer controls the shine (more white = more shiny).
The main layer will be an edited version of your opaque diffuse map. (if you still have the diffuse transparency layer from earlier, delete it)
If you haven't done any significant changes to the diffuse, you can copy the green layer from the the DAI specular map as your transparency layer by making a blank layer under your diffuse layer, and pasting the green specular in it.
If you have made large changes to the diffuse, duplicate it, and use the lower layer as the transparency layer.
Turn the bottom/transparency layer to grayscale using the Black and White tool under 'Adjustments'.
Select the top/main layer in the Layers box, and then open the Hue & Saturation tool under 'Adjustments'.
The specular texture should be both darker and less saturated than the diffuse, so reduce them to around 60 and -50, respectively.

If your texture has large metal areas, you may want to exclude them. The DAI specular's blue layer is a metallic mask; you can copy/paste it into another layer and use it to select the metal parts like we did for recoloring above. Ctrl+I inverts your selection. Now you can use the adjustments without affecting the metal.
Save your specular texture as a PDN (separate from your diffuse PDN).
Select the transparency layer, then do Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C to copy it.
Switch back to the main layer, and then do Effects, Object, Paste Alpha.
Delete the transparency layer.
Save your new specular map as a .dds. The compression should again be BC3 (Linear, DXT5).
Tint Map:
If you don't want/need tinting, this will be really easy--don't bother with a tint map, and set the semantic in the .mao to NoTint, or AlphaNoTint if your diffuse has transparency. :p
If you don't want the armor/cloth to tint but you have exposed skin, this will still be pretty easy:
Open up your diffuse map, make a new blank layer above the diffuse, and fill it with black (000000). Hide the black layer, go to your diffuse, and select the skin, either with the magic wand or the lasso select. Invert your selection (Ctrl+I), and fill that with black. Fill your skin with white (for DAO, use FFFFFF. For DA2, start with E5E5E5. The vanilla maps aren't terribly consistent: sometimes they're as light as E4E4E4 or as dark as DBDBDB). Unhide the all-black layer. Save your tint map as a PDN. Copy the transparency layer, and then use Paste Alpha on the all-black layer. Delete the transparency layer. Save as a .dds, with compression BC3 (Linear, DXT5). The semantic in your .mao file should be 'ArmourSkinTint', or 'AlphaArmourSkinTint' if you have transparency.
If you want material tinting, be prepared to love layers. ;) Open up the DAI diffuse map (if you've made a lot of changes to the texture layout, like adding/removing sections, use your diffuse instead).
Make the diffuse grayscale using the Black and White adjustment, and then make two duplicate layers, and four blank layers.
Open up the DAI tint map. If you exported it from DAI with the alpha channel and have transparent areas, make it completely opaque with the Transparency slider in the 'Adjustments' menu.
Make two duplicate layers.
Using Curves or Levels, like we did earlier, change these three layers into red, green, and blue channel layers. The red channel is usually for cloth tinting, and the green and blue channels for leather tinting.
Go back to the DAI specular map, and hide the red and green layers so that only the blue layer is showing. The blue channel in the DAI specular is for metal tinting.
One-by-one, copy each of these tint layers, and paste them into the blank layers you made on the DAI diffuse map. To keep your layers straight, you may want to rename them.

If you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend reading sapphim's and Ottemis' tutorials about textures.
In short, what a tint map does is allow you to easily re-color items using a RGB system (+ skin on the alpha). A tint file (.tnt) holds three colors, one to apply to the tint map red channel, one for the blue, and one for the green. The tint map is overlaid on the diffuse map, and the colors from the tint file essentially painted on. This is why if you look at the base diffuse maps for DAO and DA2 (or at the untinted models in-game), they tend to be rather bland: neutral colors take tints better than bright colors.
What we're going to do is use the tint maps' color channels to select different sections of the diffuse map and make the RBG layers for the tint map.
As you might have realized, we have 4 tint layers, but only need 3.
If making a robe/clothing model for DAO, you can just delete the metal tint layer. Otherwise, the simplest thing to do is combine the two leather layers, or delete one of them entirely. You might want to open up a similar model's tint texture from DAO/DA2 (whichever you're modding for) to see what materials each color layer corresponds to. The tint map will open up mostly or completely transparent - you can turn it opaque with Adjustments, Transparency.
Depending on what kind of model you're texturing, you will probably need to re-color the layers.
I'm going to port this outfit to DA2 as a light/mage armor, which usually seems to use red for the heavier leather/cloth areas, green for lighter leather/cloth, and blue for metallic accents. First thing I do is combine the leather layers by hiding the red tint layer, and use color picker to grab the green color code from the green leather layer (it's 00FF00). Then I fill the blue with green, using the paint bucket. Then I'll double-click on the upper green layer in the Layers box, and set the Blend Mode to 'Screen'. And finally, merge the upper green layer down onto the lower green layer. Now I'll swap the colors of the red and green layers. I already have the color in the Colors box set to green, so I'll unhide the red tint layer, and use paint bucket to fill all the red. (holding Shift and then clicking will fill in all the red at once) In the Colors box, I'll swap the green to red (FF0000). I hide the green cloth tint layer, and fill in the green leather tint layer with red instead.
Now we'll start combining the tint layers with the diffuse layers.
Click and drag the layers in the Layers box (or use the Move Layer Up/Down buttons) so that the layers alternate red/diffuse/green/diffuse/blue/diffuse.

On each of the color tint layers, change the Blend mode to 'Darken'. If you have skin tinting, make another duplicate layer of the diffuse, put it at the bottom, and hide it. We'll come back to it in a bit.
At this point, it's a good idea to save as a PDN, to make it easy to adjust tinting later if necessary.
Then merge each color layer onto the diffuse layer beneath it.
Finally, change the Blend Mode on the red and green layers to 'Additive'.
Then merge the layers into one, starting at the top. Now it should look like a proper tint map! :D
One last thing - if this texture is for armor/clothing, we need deal with skin tinting.
If you don't have visible skin, simply turn the whole thing transparent using the Transparency adjustment.
If you do have visible skin on your textures, unhide that last diffuse layer you made a few steps ago.
Select all the skin with the magic wand tool or lasso select. Invert the selection (Ctrl+I), and fill it with black. Now fill the skin with white (for DAO, use FFFFFF; for DA2, start with E5E5E5). In the layers box, have the skin layer selected, and hit Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C to copy it. Paste it as an alpha on the main layer. Delete the skin layer.
Save your tint map as a .dds, BC3 (Linear, DXT5). The semantic in your .mao should be ArmourSkinTint, or AlphaArmorSkinTint if your diffuse map has transparency.
Here's what my model looks like in Blender, in-game with no tint, and in-game with the red "mercenary" robe tint:

It's kind of shiny for cloth, so I'm probably going to go back to the specular texture and darken the cloth parts, and maybe slightly darken the diffuse texture.
The difference between the untinted and the tinted is also…disappointing, so I also need to brighten the tint map. (there are two ways to do this: either go to the .dds and turn up the saturation on the selected areas that need it, or open up the PDN and turn up the brightness on the individual diffuse layers before you merge them) Alternatively, I could desaturate the diffuse a bit.
But, what I have is a pretty good start. :)

Not a tree in sight, nor another living being. Which means no beds, at least not until we've made it to the caverns. But uhh, speaking of which...

The very first frame I unpaused, I was told "a section of the cavern has collapsed," which is really quite strange. So I went to reveal it, just to check - and see how far we'd need to dig down before we hit trees, and, well... we won't. These are not cavern layers. That green stuff? It's grass. Trees do not seem to grow in it, or at least, none of them have yet. Oh, and some of those little "HFS tubes" might have shattered down on the third cavern layer. If you don't know what that means, absolutely do not worry about it one little bit okay. Either way, if we want any kind of farming to ever happen here, we'll have to get down there and get to work on it. And we basically need farming to happen here, but before any of that we need stairs, a way of dealing with the aqueduct (I'm just going to reuse the Blackfaint method since decapods actually like waterfalls) and some kind of meager little production setup.

And fuck it, here we are at -62, starting a production area with Amontillado'able doors. Unfortunately, we have no underground seeds, 3 logs, no trees in sight, and a long time before our first caravan. But the queen gets what the queen wants, and the queen wants the perfect library - far, far away from any and all distractions. Well, it's more than a bit likely we'll just die trying. But I think sometimes you have to think "what if I DON'T fail?" And yeah sure that's been co-opted by all the morons who really run the world and get to blow billions killing themselves in submarines or trying to make AI write all the movies. But I think it obviously has some kind of value anyway.

We've gotten enough marble blocks carved out and good enough rough gems to get enough plants, meat and fish to tide us over a good while longer, but before we can bring any of it downstairs... this happens? I've never seen this before.

Nope after a few minutes everyone turned out fine. Nice. Another huge W for crabs. So here we have the beginning of our "starter base," where we intend to make sure we can get self-sufficient before we bother killing ourselves for the paper economy. It'll be... well more than just a little hard, all things considered, but up on the top the orthoclase buildings are our construction workshops, and all the cobaltite ones are for kitchen-related activities. Except for the farmers' workshop, which is kinda food but it kinda flexes to textile production too, which I suppose we'll need to do at least some of.

Then a random cave-in kills one of our bobbit worms and it just gets me thinking, dude something is really fucking wrong with this whole fortress. I just... I don't think this is going to work man. We can't grow anything, anywhere. I bet you think I'm exaggerating.

autumn headcanon:
uhhh i don't think cybertron has seasons so assume hf for this one, i guess? prowl is one of those people who would like to like autumn, on the basis this seems in line with his own overly-serious self-image somehow, except a) he gets horrible hayfever that makes him grumpy and deeply undignified for most of october, so that sucks, and b) he met mesothulas in autumn and now vaguely, subconsciously associates that season with bad omens. (not that he would ever admit to being that borderline superstitious, but there's just this nagging feeling when the nights start drawing in...)
for an education or learning headcanon:
i figure that cold constructs pre-war sort of got a not-so-bad version of what we hear about MTOs being given later; a lot of downloads and standardized testing to make sure they're "ready" for the job they're going into. by contrast, if you want to do whatever that alt mode exemption test Chromedome and Prowl discuss entails, that's all stuff you have to study procedurally on your own time (or, if you're much better off than he ever was, maybe you can buy a custom download pack, but good luck if you're not already wealthy). prowl took it twice and failed. he's still extremely bitter about it. (chromedome just refused to even take it, and prowl didn't tell him he'd failed, just spent a couple weekends a few years apart in their shared apartment inexplicably moping.)
for an angsty or dark headcanon:
prowl actually did try and bring himself to kill ostaros after impactor left him alone with the gun. for hours. when springer does something that really pisses him off, he always thinks about it for a split second, against his will. not that he ever gets as far as explicitly thinking that it would have been better if he'd blown Springer's head off before he got such a strong personality, you understand. he just. briefly remembers sometimes that he did once have the opportunity. (he won't admit he feels bad about this, but he does, and more than once Springer has gotten his way and had no idea what guilt was driving the weird, out of the blue willingness to extend him a favour.)
