Akatsuki no Yona Chapter 177 Thoughts
A hint of the start of a new arc in this chapter!
The start of this chapter features a young Hak, speaking with his grandfather then Ayame. It was so sad that since young, he has already decided that he would not confess to Yona, and quietly protect her and Soo-Won’s relationship. This makes Yona’s confession even more precious, as he had not even imagined that his feelings would be returned. Heuk-Chi, being the “considerate” subordinate, covers Tae-Jun’s ears from Yona’s confession and immediately removes him from the scene. Hak then hints he wants to hear more, but Yona, feeling shy, ends the conversation and proceeds back to the tent. The funniest part was where Jaeha, Kija, Vold and Algira was indicated that they too heard the confession. (I really wonder what both Jaeha and Kija thought about it, even though they both know that Yona likes Hak. I hope there maybe would be a side chapter showing how they felt about it, especially when we all know Jaeha likes Yona, and Kija too, has some sort of good feelings towards Yona.
In the tent, the group talks about leaving, but stops their conversation when they see Gobi’s expression. Yona is again very obviously uncomfortable by Gobi, which makes me wonder the significance of dedicating a panel to her uncomfortable expression. Would there still be more conflict that surrounds Gobi and the four dragons?
The next scene is where Tae-Jun talks to Yona, Hak and Jaeha about going back to Kouka, in which Heuk-Chi very casually slips in to Tae-Jun about Yona’s confession, making the atmosphere very awkward. They then go find Yoon, who wants to stay longer with the Kouka troops to learn more about medicine, which makes Yona’s expression droop. And a short scene with the Sky Tribe man makes Yona tense, as she remembers that they were most probably involved in her father’s assassination. This is not really boding well into the next arc.
Yoon then pushes Hak and Yona to go rest as they are both injured, leaving them to be in each other’s presence. They are so awkward that it is funny! Hak then brings up Ayame, who Yoon reminds him of, which makes Yona jealous. Hak, noticing her change of expression, questions her about it, but she didn’t say why. But he is not that oblivious (good for you Hak) and had an inkling that maybe Yona was jealous of Ayame, and asks her that. Yona then blushed; omg she was so adorable, and clearly I was not the only that thought so. Hak blushed at her expression subtly, and continues questioning her about it, but finally came to enlightenment. Yona really did like him, and she was actually jealous. Hak’s expression in this entire chapter regarding Yona’s confession was so ridiculous, I’m literally dying hahaha! He then expressed to himself that he was so happy about it OMG! This is so adorable!
Yoon and the four dragons then had an encounter with Joo-Doh, whom is very suspicious and cautious of them, wanting to be rid of them, to the point where he almost starts a fight. It kinda makes my heart ache, thinking of how he, whom had protected Yona for all these years and see Hak, Yona and Soo-Won grow up, made the choice to serve Soo-Won and see Hak as an enemy. I really want to know his backstory.
Kye-Sook then appears, which causes Hak and Yona to join the group. He stops Joo-Doh from starting a fight, and is “welcoming Yoon” to learn more about medicine. He then talks about the troops returning back to Hiryuu Castle, which makes everyone suspicious. Yona then outright asks him what he actually wants, and Kye-sook then confesses his intention, which is asking Yona and the Happy Hungry Bunch to join forces with him.
I am not so sure of the direction the new arc will take. Will Yona and the rest accompany Yoon as he learns more about medicine in Hiryuu Castle, or separate from him, or will they go separate ways from the Kouka troops? I am really unsure, but I have a suspicion that Yona and the Happy Hungry Bunch will go to Hiryuu Castle. They have already visited the Fire Tribe, and the Water Tribe, and even Xing. I am not sure which direction they will go next other than head back to the place where everything began, which is Hiryuu Castle. Maybe we will get to know more about Zeno and his past, about King Hiryuu too.
This chapter wasn’t a cheesy one either, something that I was looking forward to, but I think Kusanagi sensei needed an opening to the next arc that there cannot be too much focus on the couple. But I think this is how their relationship works too, a step by a step. Yona had only just recently found out she liked Hak, and gathered the courage to confess. I think their relationship will be slow to heat up, but that’s okay. It is how they work.
So until we get more answers to Yona’s decision, adios!

Tae-jun: Heuk-chi, do you want a quickie?
Heuk-chi:
Heuk-chi: I beg your pardon, Lord Tae-jun?
Tae-jun: A quickie. You know, those little cake things.
Heuk-chi: Lord Tae-jun...it's pronounced quiche.
