day one of humbly requesting you to continue nuisance
Hi anon! Thank you for the humble request! ^-^
Nuisance (Part 6)
Part 1 / Part 5
Hero was trapped. And they were trapped with a kid.
They didn't know what caused the earthquake that made this building collapse, but when the ground started shaking while they were out on patrol, they grabbed the nearest civillian and covered them.
When the dust settled and the shaking stopped, they blinked to let their eyes adjust to the darkness, and looked down at the person squirming in their arms.
"...Oh. You're Villain's kid." It took them a moment to realize why this girl looked so familiar, but they were sure of it now. How long had it been since they last saw her with Villain? A few weeks? Perhaps a month or two at most? How fast did kids grow?
She removed herself from Hero's arms and drew herself up as much as she could in the cramped space. They were lucky they ended up in this pocket within the rubble instead of crushed underneath the chunks of debri. "And what if I am?" The little nuisance wasn't looking quite so little anymore, but she certainly kept the attitude Hero remembered.
Hero leaned back and exhaled slowly. They didn't take offense to the challenge in her tone. They had other things to focus on. Like how to get out of here.
After determining that there was no way to move the rubble themself without ruining the fragile stability that happened to be keeping them both alive, Hero returned their attention to her. Although they were trapped, she didn't seem panicked at all. If anything, she was far calmer than any adult Hero had had to rescue.
"You don't seem scared. Are you alright?" Everyone expressed fear differently. Hero might not be great with kids, and this one might have an unusual liking for villainous characters, but they did still know how to do their job.
She gave them a look that Hero was very familiar with. It was reminiscent of Villain's favorite expression - the one that let Hero know they were being judged. Heavily. "Duh. I'm just waiting."
"Waiting? For what?"
The child scoffed. "What do you think?"
Hero frowned. Was she waiting for rescue? Hero couldn't put a call through - there was no signal here - but she seemed confident that something would happen soon.
A beat passed before they attempted to assure her. "I'm sure someone will be looking for us. It might take some time for a team to find us-"
"I'm not waiting for one of you," she cut them off bluntly. "Heroes suck. You even blew up my house once."
That gave Hero pause. It was true some of their coworkers could be a bit reckless. They couldn't blame a child for seeing things that way if they were affected so directly. "I'm...sorry to hear that," they said seriously. "I promise we are doing our best to protect you. But sometimes destruction like that is unavoidable."
"Oooor you're just bad at your job." She scoffed, small fists planted on her hips as she glared Hero down. The image would have been just a bit more intimidating if she didn't stick her tongue out too.
Nevertheless, Hero's face burned a little with embarrassment. At least they could be sure now that that sharp tongue of hers didn't come from Villain's influence.

dear lord y'all should learn to tell the difference between a gag in writing and an actual instance of harmful behavior... news flash but kids find mild violence funny and- shocker- can tell the difference between something that was the in-universe equivalent of roughhousing and actual physical assault with the intent of harm.
so much of the younger generation is caught up in the lack of nuance perpetuated by the internet that in trying to analyze a piece of text they read so far into it that they miss the point entirely.
this person also cites that because Percy (who is KNOWN for his sarcastic and often exaggerated narration) says that he's "scared" of Annabeth at times that means he is in an abusive relationship. Have you considered that in the context of the way the narration and the surrounding universe is constructed, this is a compliment?? Of her ability to kill monsters and survive?? or in some of the context they cite he's intimidated by her because he's a TEENAGER WITH A CRUSH.
For the love of the greek gods stop taking everything so literally!!!!!!
And I want to clarify, this is not about shipping. I couldn't care less if you like Percabeth or not. Heck- if you want to interpret the text in the way that makes you personally believe that they're toxic or whatever I'm not gonna stop you, but I draw the line at using your warped perception of the narrative to lash out against people who enjoy it, let alone calling them "abuse apologists".
no reading comprehension-ass website for real 😩

marty hart's cyclical return to praising family as THE thing that keeps a man grounded, stable, and happy (specifically in pointing out that rust DOESN'T have a family) even as flashbacks show him spiraling into jealous macho violence as he lies to, mistreats, and destroys his family over the course of multiple affairs (by which he deliberately steps outside of and away from his family despite his wife's best efforts to get him to reconnect and step up to be the family man he sees himself as)
vs
rust cohle's repeated excoriations of the idea of individuality and personhood and the stupid self-centeredness and entitlement that comes with saying "I, a human being, matter to the universe, and the things I do matter", an ideology he carries for years and waxes poetic on for his interviewers as late as 2012, even as he obsessively works himself to the bone to get justice and resolution for the victims he's assigned and ultimately to protect children from the powerful and dangerous people who want to brutalize them

Nuisance (Part 3)
Part 1 / Part 2 // Part 4
Hero froze.
It was a child. Villain's child.
They had followed her after she bumped into them and they realized their hands were empty.
At the end of the street stood their nemesis, tall and intimidating in civilian clothes. Except, they didn't look so intimidating out of uniform.
Hero swallowed. They didn't know Villain had a kid. They didn't talk about their home lives on the job. Or much of anything, actually.
It was all very routine, their encounters. Villain wasn't one to monologue. Always, Hero showed up, they fought, and either Hero thwarted their plans or Villain found an opening to slip away.
Hero watched the little girl run up to Villain. It wasn't quite broad daylight but the evening glow was enough. She reached up, proudly showing off her prize - a cinnamon bun freshly stolen from Hero.
To Hero's bafflement, their enemy crouched down and gave her a pat on the head, clearly congratulating her. Hero's eyes narrowed as they considered what to do.
The two had an agreement, of sorts. They already knew what the other looked like, the masks having come off on one occasion or another during their altercations. Wordlessly, they agreed that outside of work they would ignore each other - or at least not acknowledge that they knew one another. But this? Could Hero really ignore this? There was a chance, however slim, that that wasn't Villain's child. They still had to consider all possibilities, whether they were on the clock or not.
~
"Did you-?"
"Kidnap her?" Villain raised an eyebrow and gave them a look that made Hero flush. They were well acquainted with this expression. It was their patented 'Are you really that much of an idiot?' stare.
Hero cleared their throat. They glanced down at the child who stood next to Villain glaring up at them fiercely. Hero wondered how long she'd been in Villain's care.
"Yes," the hero said. "That."
Villain rolled their eyes. "Oh, yes, the local daycare is just full of potential," Villain drawled. "Isn't that where you heroes get your sidekicks from? Thought I'd have a look for myself."
Hero's lips thinned in a satisfying way. Villain thought it was very typical of a hero to assume the worst of their enemy without basis.
...Perhaps not without basis, but still. Kidnapping? Really? Did Hero take them for some common criminal?
"I'll have you know she adopted herself," Villain said airily. The girl bristled with pride at their side, clearly pleased with herself.
Hero narrowed their eyes and looked between the two. "And why should I believe you?"
The girl huffed. "If you weren't gonna believe it then why'd you ask?" she demanded. Her scowl really was quite impressive.
Villain couldn't help but roll their eyes again. They turned away from Hero, a clear dismissal. The little girl stuck her tongue out and followed her (il)legal guardian in a similar fashion.

3, 7, 8 & 10 for ask meme :)
ok my asks are working again YAY
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
thankfully i don't save any of these screenshots when i rant about them so my memory really is failing me here but usually like 8 times out of 10 it is something from a dick fan completely mischaracterizing bruce as a person bc they have not bothered to read anything removed from the context of new teen titans and onward
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
this is actually something i make it a point not to do because i personally really hate to ever let fandom influence my opinion of something. which is why it's very rare for me to actually hate a character and when i do i really mean it and it's always coming from somewhere textually
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
not so much an opinion as it is a sentiment but i personally think people are way too harsh on tim. like there is absolutely classism at play with how tim and jason are written with respect to each other in the 90s but idk why the blame for that is placed on tim as a character when there is so much he doesn't know and can't be expected to know bc bruce will never truly reveal whatever is going on with himself internally. tim is naive and too idealistic and privileged but i also think it is very tragic how willing he is to rob himself of a childhood for the sake of a city and an idealism that is already falling to pieces within bruce by the time tim makes it into the family. he is self righteous and he gets angry and he is too willing to please and for some reason people's prerogative is to castigate him for it instead of recognize that.. he is mentally really fucked up and probably should not be doing any of this? and i also am no fan of dc's tendency towards overkill so personally tim's canon ceases to hold relevance for me way before infinite crisis comes into the picture but i think it is absolutely crazy people act like tim has no right to be upset over the fact that his dad, his best friend, and his girlfriend all die in immediate succession of each other. like if i was sixteen years old and that happened and i was already hanging by a thread trying to sustain the weight of believing i need to hold a city together i would be the emotionally ugliest person in the world and no one could say shit to me about whether they suffered more or less

Been thinking about Apotheosis because of course I am, but about Rumi specifically and their obsession with perfection and how it interacts with their love and care for humanity. Bc on the one hand, he feels so strongly that he has to look perfect, he has to repair his injuries and make a good impression and say the right things. But on the other hand, she’s continually so interested in the well-being of others, to the point where it can cause problems- she insists on saving the people in the blights, refuses to land the killing blow, showed Peter care just bc they knew of him from their visions, and repeatedly states that her main goal is to make the world better for people. And also like the bar scene at the very beginning! He’s trying to lift up and inspire people through telling hopeful tales!
But then you see the interaction between the perfectionism and the goal of making a better world for everyone, and how they weave into something that feels more questionable. Rumi gathering followers purposefully in any way possible. Rumi putting the marks on people’s hands to show that they’re still alive, which on the one hand has the side effect of causing people to think they’re dead, but on the other, more serious hand, leaves, as far as they’re aware, a permanent mark on that person’s body to show they believe in him. The intention to go save other worlds and make them better. The fact that he’ll lie and hide things about himself from Peter and Thanatos bc he wants to upkeep the perfect image, even in front of people he cares for.
Rumi is so interesting to me because although he wants power, he is very strongly aware of his goal with that power, and I genuinely believe that the power won’t corrupt him. What I DO believe is that Rumi will be so caught up in her need to have others see her as perfect that she won’t notice when her uses of power greatly overstep where she should be using them. She wants to help people, and I believe that she will; however, when she does, it will be as a benevolent but untouchable god, and not as a hero of the people.

Do you have favorite actors for the various roles in "Cyrano de Bergerac"? I would love to hear your thoughts!
I do! I actually rambled a lot about this while I was watching the different productions I could get my hands on (I tagged it "Cyrano de Bergerac" and "I talk too much").
My favorite productions are the one with José Ferrer and the one with Benoit Solès, and those actors make the best Cyranos in my opinion. Though that's probably something in part beyond the actors' choice, their dynamic with their respective Roxane and Christian are the best ones, I think, and I find how Cyrano moves around these two particular characters at the core of a good Cyrano characterisation.
José Ferrer's use of his voice, which is arguably Cyrano's true most characteristic feature, is unmatched imo (although McAvoy does a very good job with this too), and he manauvers very well several of the different aspects of the character, such as his playfulness, his shittiness and longing. By the end of the play you believe he is the most beautiful man on Earth. Cyrano, however, is a bit pathetic (not just in a "pathos" way), and I'd say Ferrer gives off an air full of dignity very fitting of many scenes, but that eats almost entirely this aspect of Cyrano; Benoit Solès manages this very well, while also playing well with some of the other ones, such as the playfulness, the longing, the pain and the despair. Both Ferrer and Solès are hilarious, tender, a bit shitty, vulnerable, playful and sad. Albeit neither of them portrays 100% what Cyrano is, I think both come pretty close in slightly different flavours, and by the end of the play one ends up being terribly fond of them.
My favourite Roxane is Clara Huet in the production with Benoit Solès, but Mala Powers in the 1950 film is a close second. I think they portray wonderfully Roxane's spunk, and her mix of honest playful cheerfulness and her haughtiness, her intelligence and wit, and how much like Cyrano she is.
I've not come to love for now any Christian as much as I've loved Ferrer, Solès, Huet and Powers, but again I think the Christians in the 1950 film and the Solès productions are very very good. I love the dynamic they have with their Cyranos, especially the one Christian and Cyrano have in the 1950 film, enhanced positively by the added scenes (they actually work so well in showing their developing as friends, their deep love and care for each other!). I don't want to expand too much on this to avoid spoilers (beyond the already known 'Christian dies' ones I mean), but some things they do with both these Christians are a thing of genius, and both feel vulnerable, kind, ready to fight and truly desperate at times; I like when they do that.
There's an Italian production which has a Cyrano I truly enjoy as well, despite how they dumbify him more than I usually like my Christians. His mix of anger and deep pain when he discovers Cyrano's feelings for Roxane were so well made, and his physical presence makes you identify who Christian is even before the play starts.
The Podalydès production has two different Christians. The one in the version on youtube isn't bad, but @ride-a-dromedary likes Éric Ruf a lot. I actually adore him based on the clips and gifs she's posted of him, but I haven't been able to find the version with him online, so I can't know. But he truly seems one of the best. Based on what little I've seen, I love his intense gazes and subtle gestures.
I'm not entirely sold on any Le Bret, De Guiche or Ragueneau yet.
I think the German musical has a decent Ragueneau in vibes, and the 1990 French film does as well. I found his poem made song for what I think is a Spanish production (I'm not sure if it's a fan creation based on the Spanish production), and while I've not been able to find that production online, the song works well in vibes too I think.
The German musical's Le Bret in vibes is very good. He encompasses well his deep love and worry for Cyrano while also being done with his shit. They truly feel like close friends. The 1950 film kind of combines Gaston de Castel-Jaloux and Le Bret into one character, which sadly changes Le Bret's dynamic with Cyrano a bit, but that's a very good Le Bret as well. The one in Solès' production is pretty good too. He has my favourite delivery of the scene in which Le Bret chastises Cyrano for risking his life sending letters.
De Guiche is complicated. I think productions often make him too pathetic and laughable or too bad, so bad it makes the last act kind of not make sense. The 1950 one, the 1990 French one, the Kevin Kline one and the Solès one are all good, but I am not passionate for any of them either.
And basically that's it!
