Antiquing with Hermes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The top photo is an inkwell with Hermes himself as the centerpiece! It was pretty expensive so while I was deciding if I should buy it (spoiler alert: I did!) I ended up finding those two wall plaques in the second photo & took that as a sign to go ahead with the purchase!
The inkwell was a pretty penny so I couldn’t afford much more than that, but I am so excited to get it set up on his altar! <3

so yesterday I was at senate reading for a bill which I got to read in favor for, and the bill DID pass 3-2 (there's several more steps before it becomes law but this is good)
on the way home I was thanking all the gods I work with, particularly Hermes.
i stopped at my spot on 8th ave because that's where I go for important things to pick up some sticks for my ojo de dios when right by the river as I was looking there was this cool ass knife I found.
all my friends kept yelling at me to put it back, give it to the pigs cops but it is now FIRMLY on Hermes's part of my ofrenda

Discreet/Practical Travel Altar: My Wallet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe it's just the Hermes devotee in me, but I love travel altars! I love how discreet they can be, but they can also have a practical use...which made me realize, my wallet is a travel altar devoted to Hermes!
The wallet itself can have a pattern and decorations reminiscent of a particular vibe, energy, spirit, deity...and prayer cards can double as idols without taking up too much space. Plus, anything you keep in it, like money, can be offerings!
I purchased the wallet a while ago from SewSophia--with the colors and map design of the fabric, it was the exact Hermes vibe I was looking for. I added a set of HearthfireHandiworks' bracelet prayer beads on the keyring, and the prayer card is the lovely work of WyrdCuriosities. I've had all these things together in this wallet for years, but it really has been a functional travel altar all this time, who knew! 🤣

Hermes is the herald of the gods, he is also protector of travellers, merchants, thieves and orators. Today is his day of traders, a day where you can consider making offerings to Hermes for success in business, selling your own items, food, crafts etc. Some good offerings to Hermes include  - Acts of devotion (helping lost people, giving to the needy, helping small businesses, breaking the news to people, making sure people hear truths) - Coins - Crafted items - Cockrel/Chicken feathers - Dice - Gold and silver objects - Food that is not from where you are / your culture

Incense for the Gods: Hermes 🪙
This in an ongoing series of making incense blends for the Greek Gods. The idea is that scents are pleasant to humans but also to Gods and they make for ana amzing offering you can just make once, put in a jar and use for many months with no issue.
At first I just kind of imagined what would be cool, this is actually making the incense blend (you can find everything in my pinned post).
So here is Hermes! ✈️ God of all trades, be it travelers, communication, movement, thieves, bringer of Joy and guide of Souls.
What I used:
Saffron: unfortunately only had powder form, would be better to have the higher quality twigs-like things, but that's all i had. So saffron is actually made from crocus flowers and is sacred to Hermes. It looks red but is actually a powerful way to dye things in a yellow reminiscent of gold and all things precious and joyful.
Cinnamon: associated with heat and abundance, I like associating it with him although it seems to be more of a recent association. Nevertheless, it is a very stimulating spice that symbolically works extremely well for the God that never stops moving.
Lavender: this is strangely a more calming herb that I associate with his role of Guide of Souls and warden of Sleep and Dreams. Plus it seems to come often as an UPG for many people. It smells lovely, even when burnt.
Golden Benzoin: This specific type of benzoin has a very sweet scent and a yellow color, both things that I personally associate with Hermes. I also pretty much always add one of the ''classical'' incense such as myrrh, olibanum and benzoin in my blends because they feel very ritualistic and grounding for some reason.
The results:
I ended up taking out a whole cinnamon stick and only grinding two because it smelled just so strongly i was afraid it was going to overpower everything else.
When I burnt it OMG it smells awesome. Very warm and cozy but the lavender adds a touch of freshness. Even the blend itself without being burnt smells delicious.
So yeah 5/5 might be my favorite one as of yet :)

This is just a reminder that your altars are personal to you! What you associate with your deities can be based on history or purely on your own experiences & interpretations!
I got these two calico critters from some blind bags & decided I could associate the robin hood character with Hermes and the little flower mouse with Aphrodite, so they reside on their altars now! :) <3

wait what do you mean may castellan lives in westport, connecticut?
what do you mean she lives in one of the towns on connecticut's gold coast?
what do you mean she lives in one of the richest areas of the usa?
how the fuck is this single mom living in westport?
could this be a result of hermes trying?
could this be the extent of hermes' power? to put his kid in one of the best school districts in connecticut and the usa as a whole?
or
rick picked a random town in connecticut close to nyc and didn't realize how rich the area is because of nyc

Quote
While the link between Hestia and Demeter is immediately obvious, that between Hestia and Hermes may seem surprising at first. What they share is a role as intermediaries. The smoke from the hearth’s altar, where the sacrifices burn, provides, like Hermes, a means of communication between the realm of mortals and Olympus.
