@pontevoix : a starter for tanaka. ❜
“ do you think it’s strange—— graduating ? ” the words are out of her mouth before she even realizes it, spoken with an ease that makes her suspicious. she thought she was ready for it, but maybe not. as if to elaborate, more for herself than for tanaka, who she didn’t expect to have a heart-to-heart with, shimizu adds, “ … i was thinking that we’d only just reached the point where everyone can play together as a team. we’re properly making use of everyone’s skill now. ”
her unspoken meaning: will it be chaotic next year without sawamura and azumane as starting players? she’d like to think that things will smooth over quickly, since hinata and kageyama are no longer fighting, but that’s no guarantee that they’ll be able to pull themselves together on the court. more than likely not, they’ll spend another few months squabbling without direction before they find their rhythm again. at least, that’s her bet.
“ i’m not worried about you, though, ” shimizu states flatly, and just barely flicks her eyes in his direction. she pulls another volleyball into her lap and picks up her rag, wiping it clean from sweat and dirt. the motion is repetitive and calming, but in another month, it’s likely that her hands will forget the feeling. still, it gives her something to direct her attention towards, since she didn’t really mean to pull him into a deep conversation, and she doesn’t want him to believe he’s getting any sort of preferential treatment.
he’ll be fine when the third years are gone. he’s already matured more than she expected this year. but… “ but it’s a good thing you’re not going to become the captain, ” she punctuates this with a small laugh and a smile—— a skill she’s also matured through this year. “ don’t give ennoshita too hard a time, tanaka. ”

can't believe a show based on a videogame (usually games adaptations are notoriously bad, which isn't the case here tho) gave me the beauty and the beast/twisted mirrors/enemies to traveling companions/ruthless antihero+optmistic but still badass heroine who takes none of his shit/age gap but make it sexy dynamic of my dreams. as much as i love maximus and i think he deserves the best writing ever because 1. he's a clever deconstruction of the aspiring Knight bro who's actually a bit of a loser and, as much as lucy, sees the world in black&white at first and then doesn't get what he thought he wanted but what he needs (or at least i hope he'll eventually get it), and 2. he's a cutie and i want an epic love story for him too, it's very funny how they tried to give us a puppy kind of romance and the tumblr girlies still fixated on the "toxic ~she bites his finger off and he cuts hers off and sews it on his hand in what we'll pretend it's a symbolic marriage rings exchange or whatever~ asshole who used to be a nice guy/good girl™ with a lot of spunk and hidden anger but unshakeable morals" kind of relationship.

i was tagged by @luredin to list 7 comfort films and tag 7 people, and also, longer ago, by @goneahead to post a top 4 of comfort movies, so i'm going to go with seven because it's More and when it comes to movies i'm going to need More. thank you both for the tag!! 💖
shelter (2007) - top 1 comfort movie maybe. it's just Vibes.
buchanan rides alone (1958) - for what it is i've perhaps seen this more times than any person should but "very dear to me" is one of those previously mentioned things that it is, so that's alright.
10 things i hate about you (1999) - the classic! ironically one of the newer movies on this list but it's The Classic to me.
the electric horseman (1979) - robert redford saves a horse and jane fonda is the real hero for walking! in! those! boots! and hey. soft animal activism cowboy/reporter romance what more could the heart want.
zachariah (1971) - queerness and anti-violence and cowboys and music and those darned Vibes again. they get me every time!
hard core logo (1996) - look. this is objectively not a very comforting movie. i know this. but it's catharsis and Feelings and by now deeply familiar fucked up people and that IS comforting (to me).
wilby wonderful (2004) - i am. not currently coherent about this one. check back in a year or so.
i'll try to tag some people who i haven't seen in connection with this game yet, but i'm mostly guessing: @littlestarsailor @beansterpie @smileylover99 @flownwrong @batvreason @eg515 @spaceradars ✨
zero pressure of course!

Placing such a hard time limit using the Calamity was exceptionally good and also inherent to the tragedy of it and im thrilled by it. Don't get me wrong, forced time limits in tragedies and doomsday stories are common for a reason. They work, and they work well. but just, within the context of EXU Calamity, its really getting me.
because its always about not having enough time, right? its about expecting that you'll have more. There's complacency with power, and mistakes, and wealth, but maybe what the Ring of Brass were most indulgent with was time.
(you always think you'll have enough time, more time, another replenishment, another deal, another broadcast, another batch of bright children. youll get another time to hash out an argument with your father. you'll get another time to stay home with your kids and get to know them. you'll get another time to apologize and explain and fix your broken relationship. there's just something else, right here, right now, that should get done first.)
The Ring of Brass were rich, in so many ways. They had power, and wealth, and a million responsibilities, and so maybe they would've argued they had ZERO time, actually, and they just needed to sort everything else out first, and they'd have enough time to figure everything else out later.
but that's the point, right? There's never really a good time for this. for the important stuff, or the end of the world.
(Laerryn was, perhaps, the primary person in the Ring Of Brass operating under a time limit from the get-go, trying desperately to get the Leyline working, because if it wasn't now, it would be never. Because Quay wouldn't live that long. But even she assumed that was the extent of the time limit, that for Everything Else, there would still be time.)
(And is that such a ridiculous expectation? Is that so foolish of her? Of all of them? You never expect the world to end. You don't have infinite time, sure, but- you've got tomorrow, or next week, or- just not now.)
And so it is tragic, but it is also weirdly satisfying, to see the way time got shattered and stretched and sped throughout that last episode. The first second lasted forty minutes. They get maybe two hours at the hands of a damned demon, and its the best blessing they've ever had. Rounds are six seconds. A broadcast is maybe thirty. A healing word, a Wish, a Wall of Force, all buying paltry seconds that make all the difference. The dawn is coming, Avalir is landing, there's so much that has to be done, and that won't get done. We watch them make hard decisions, over and over, and over, and we keep saying "there's not enough time". Because of course there isn't. There could never have been.

A boy asked me on a date for Friday at 9 pm and my first thought was literally ‘that’s too late for my cat she gets upset when we don’t go to bed together’ like.
