Every time I re-learn the doctor in the Hammer films version of Frankenstein is named Henry Frankenstein I imagine all the pages in Henry Clerval’s little poetry journals covered in hearts with Henry Frankenstein and Henry + Victor and stuff like that scribbled over and over and over again.

I watched the 1931 Frankenstein last night for the first time. Man, what a sad film. The whole ending sequence with the burning windmill broke my heart. The creature was just scared and confused the entire time. He was as much of a victim as the little girl he accidentally killed.

being both a gothic literature fan and a classic horror movies fan is a confusing experience.
when goth lit fans say "henry" within the context of frankenstein, they mean the resident sunshine bestie clerval. when classic horror fans say "henry" within the context of frankenstein, they mean mr. "it's alive!" himself.
when goth lit fans say "the creature", they mean the guy made by victor. when classic horror fans say "the creature", they mean from the black lagoon.
