Every once in a while, my mind goes back to the Little Mermaid arc. Specifically back to that one panel we all collectively love.

It's a great example of both Hanako's possessiveness and indirectness. Hanako acknowledges the mermaid world would be kind to Nene, especially compared to their current world which is cruel (because it has destined for Nene to die). And yet, to Hanako it doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter. Hanako doesn't care about any of that.

The only thing that matters is that he likes Nene. He wants her to stay with him, in this world, because he likes her.

But you would have to choke those words out of him-- and even then good luck getting him to admit it-- because Hanako has never been the most direct person, has he?

Can't admit he thinks Nene is pretty.

Says he wishes time would stop, but really he doesn't want this moment with Nene to end, because he doesn't want to say goodbye.

Constantly talks like he's just doing his job as a boss to protect his "assistant," but it's nothing more than a convenient excuse. It's not that he feels responsible for her, it's that he cares and worries about her, but refuses to put into words and therefore disguises it.

Nene manages to figure this one out on her own, but yes, Hanako wanted to save her by his own hand and no one else's. If he couldn't save her, then perhaps in another timeline Hanako wouldn't have let anybody else do it either. It's him or no one.

Hanako isn't direct, you have to often read in-between the lines to figure out what he really means. And frankly, from the way Hanako tightly clutches Nene to him in the Little Mermaid arc, I think it's very clear this isn't about her wants or feelings.

Also I want to add that Hanako had absolutely no idea that Nene initially decided to stay with him, but that hadn't even entered his equation when he fished her out. And immediately after, starts talking about her as though she was his belonging.

He never directly says any of this, because that's not who Hanako is, but throughout his entire interaction with Nene and the fish in this chapter, Hanako was basically saying:

"I don't care if your world would be kind to her. I like Yashiro, she belongs to me, and you cannot have her."

Hello and welcome to Day 18 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone who celebrates it!

Just to be on theme with the day I am (briefly) stepping out of my downward spiral of zany MHA crossovers to talk about a little idea I had last month.

This is a SVSSS fic that takes place in the first decade after the Qing generation took over as Peak Lords, and the end game pairing will be LiuJiu.

This plot bunny doesn't have a title yet, so any suggestions are welcome.

Synopsis:

Liu Mingyan knew she should have kept her mouth shut.

This was supposed to be just another ordinary day where she (and her parents) were subjected to her older brother's rant about his fellow Peak Lord, Shen Qingqiu. Just more hours of Liu Qingge's raging about how 'Shen Qingqiu is so shameless' and how 'Shen Qingqiu is a cheater'. (At this point, her own mother heard more about the Qing Jing Peak Lord's affairs than her own son's - Liu Mingyan doesn't know if she should laugh or despair for her brother's remaining intelligence at that fact)

Just because her brother's ability to sit still and read a book is next to non-existent does not mean Liu Mingyan's is the same. Liu Mingyan is a cultured young maiden. She read books. All of her readings point out that her older brother's behavior towards the Qing Jing Peak Lord is the only thing shameless in their interactions.

Constantly challenging Shen Qingqiu to fights; yelling at him to get his attention; talking only about the Qing Jing Peak Lord whenever her older brother gets to visit home and always complaining about his behavior to their parents - all of these actions would paint Liu Qingge as an unsatisfied and abandoned wife rather than the Bai Zhan War God he is revered as. And, her brother is not even married to Lord Shen Qingqiu - a fact that is, in reality, the most shameless thing about her brother's behavior.

And Liu Mingyan cannot help but agree with what the books tell her. Her older brother's behavior is not that of somebody who hates the person they slander. If Mingyan remembers correctly, the books said this behavior is common with potential couples - "aggressive sexual frustration" was the terminology used, she remembers.

And yet, Mingyan can not find fault in Lord Shen Qingqiu's rejection and/or lack of interest in her brother. After all, her brother is an idiot. Lord Shen must be some kind of saint to be able to stand in the same room, breathe the same air, and even talk with her walking disaster of a brother after all the hurtful words he was given.

The worst part of this is that her brother remains painfully ignorant to the fact that he is very much head over hills in love with a person that Mingyan knows deserves far better than her idiotic brother.

So, really, Mingyan should have kept her mouth shut. And yet, her patience hit the wall months ago and she cannot stand to hear one more slander towards (the saint) Shen Qingqiu. Her mouth opens without her own will and utters the words that make Liu Qingge choke.

"Gege, you speak a lot about Lord Shen Qingqiu. Have you ever considered you fell in love with him?"

Liu Mingyan feels like she might end up hating her big mouth after this, but the sight of her older brother's reddening face is quite the spectacle for her to enjoy. (And it makes for good future blackmail material, too)

This fic shall feature:

Liu Mingyan - the cultured young maiden who should not have read the books she did, nor jumped at the conclusions she did. (and yet, we, the readers, still encourage her endeavors)

Liu Qingge - the closeted gay who just realized (read: self-manipulated himself into thinking) he is in love with the person he hates the most. He also has like 3 crises: 1. His "Gay Awakening" Crisis; 2. His "I am in love with SHEN QINGQIU" crisis; 3. His "I made my crush hate me" crisis (unsurprisingly all of them are about Shen Qingqiu)

Shen Qingqiu - the most normal person here (trauma aside) and the one that is the most bewildered by this development. Someone save his poor braincells for they can't keep up with Liu Qingge's 180 change in personality.

Liu Mingyan and Liu Qingge's parents - who are just glad that 1. their son will stop acting like a neglected wife and 2. their son will not end up dying alone like the idiot they know he is (they already have made plans for Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu's wedding)

Honestly, this idea just started with a headcanon of cat!Liu Qingge, who brings all the prey to Shen Qingqiu just to prove he can provide for him. From there it grew into Liu Mingyan being so done with her brother's pinning ass but is not going to say something because her brother is not worthy of Shen Qingqiu until he grovels - she also agrees with her books, a good grovel is necessary and her brother is still an idiot so (the saint) Lord Shen Qingqiu mustn't be bothered by the likes of him. And then it settled at making Liu Mingyan the unwilling wing-woman of her brother's (awful) romance. I quite enjoyed this plot bunny, so there is a chance I might actually write it someday.

#ragsycon exclusive #ragsymakes #artists on tumblr #oc art #monster of the week #rach #she's conniving and self-serving and manipulative #which means she's very fun to play in game. love to rp an absolute garbage person #she and mark dated for awhile in their early to mid twenties #it was all around a really terrible relationship but he didn't really know it until well afterwards. #the entire time what he thought was positive attention was really just her using him to get what she wanted #up to and including using him as leverage to get to his brother stuart who she was seeing behind mark's back for a while #and he found out by complete chance. walked in on them after getting home from work early #and to mark's shock and disgust at this betrayal she just said 'eh that's fine. i was done with you anyway' and kicked him out right there #mark had a fairly significant breakdown over it and just. left town. ghosted everybody and got a job at a watchtower deep in the woods #didnt talk to anyone for years. became an unwitting forest cryptid (different can of worms). let all of his baggage fester for way too long #until stuart managed to get a hold of him and invited him on a Brotherly Reconciliation Camping Trip And Rach Is There Too #and rach did what she's good at which was needling mark's insecurities and insisting he's overreacting when he got upset #but at this point mark was possessed by an evil spirit that turned him into a feral dogman when angry (again. different can of worms) #and the dogman came out and attacked and killed her. total carnage. stuart was away getting firewood when it happened. #mark at this point had no memory of any of this dogman transformations so he woke up covered in blood next to rach's corpse and freaked out #as did stuart #so this Brotherly Reconciliation Camping Trip was kinda the last time they've seen each other since #and later on rach's earthbound ghost finds someone who is on a revenge quest for several other deaths at the hands (paws?) of the dogman #and this other person is already being guided by the spirits of her deceased loved ones #and rach. ever the opportunist. latches onto the other person to maybe get vengeance for her own death #sapping away the strength from the other spirits to make herself strong enough to DO anything #to say 'how fucking dare you' when the other person chooses to offer mark mercy instead of outright killing him #to decide she can finally take matters into her own hands and take over the other person's body and do the dirty work herself

ive inherited a copy of lolita from my parents (i.e. i stole it from the library in our basement and started treating it like its mine) with the 1989 vintage international cover and i think its actually not that bad. better than the 50th anniversary one with the lips anyway imo (which is the cover for the library ebook vers ive checked out).

like i think any cover that incorporates the "only convincing love story of our generation" quote anywhere kind of sucks on principle, and the fact that it features a photo of a girl at all really goes against nabakovs instructions, but compared to other covers that break those two rules, the haziness of the photo creates a really evocative atmosphere i feel matches the book more or less.

#im keeping most of my lolita thoughts to myself because i know it can be an uncomfortable book to talk about when #not intentionally trying to engage with it but. good lord ive highlighted a lot! #mostly stuff where H.H. is being a lying little bastard even in his narration #theres also this passage in ch14 after he um. 'stole the honey of a spasm' when dolores sat on his lap (not a fun passage to read lol!) #where he goes: What I had madly possessed was not she‚ but my own creation‚ another‚ fanciful Lolita—perhaps‚ more real than Lolita; #overlapping‚ encasing her; floating between me and her‚ and having no will‚ no consciousness—indeed‚ no life of her own. #(end quote. forgot quotation marks) which ohhhhh my god. subtlety is for losers lmao. #H.H. IS VERY VERY BAD AT MAKING HIMSELF LOOK GOOD DESPITE HIS BEST EFFORTS. #he claims he memorized charlottes confession of love perfectly and had conveyed in on paper perfectly #but also he completely skipped parts of it (including where she talks about her late son) and inserted the line: #'you would be a criminal--worse than a kidnapper who rapes a child.' #yes. im sure she said that. to the letter. #or when hes like i didnt marry charlotte with the intention to (extremely detailed grusome murder plan). but ill admit. i thought about it. #and then she oh so conveniently gets run over by a car when she discovers his journal. yeah. sure. right. #SORRY again i havent been Posting My Thoughts on it but i am having thoughts on it in general. #it really is a beautifully worded book though. its got great prose. makes the actions worse almost because its filtered through this #dreamy artistic self-justification. which - to go back to the original point of this post - i feel this cover conveys well LMAO #its so much better than the movies oh my god head in my hands #jumping between the most 2008 musical to ever exist‚ legally blonde fanfiction‚ and a controversial literary classic. im versatile.
