The Owl House takes place on a corpse. That's clear from the beginning. The people we meet, the fantastical things we see, every part of it is life that comes from death, and it's beautiful. Luz says that, the first time she's far enough away to see the bones. It's beautiful. The Titan was so full of life and magic that what he left behind could be passed on and made anew, and the people who sprung from that, who rely on it, understand that and are grateful. Everything they have is built on the bones of a god.

But what grows from the bones of children? Nothing. Nothing at all.

The Titan hunters killed children. They said they were monsters, but they were children. Children who played games and laughed and from their first conscious moments wanted to be loved and belong. And they hunted them to extinction, and kept their pristine skulls as trophies. An entire room full of them, of tiny skulls that could've become something wonderful and terrible and life-giving but never had the chance. They wear them, as a badge of honor. Look what I've done, look what I destroyed.

Philip Wittebane had been making grimwalkers for hundreds of years, sure, but even knowing that, there's so many of them. How many could've reached 20? There's piles of them, of bones and identical masks, scattered at the bottom of a pit, and god, were they dead, when he threw them down there? It's clear that he doesn't care, that the only thing that matters is disposing of them once they wear out their usefulness, moving on to the new model. Children tossed aside, left to rot and decay, and when we see them the bones are all clean.

Cody and Fox after the war, no order 66, the stories called 'Fox gets a job' and I wrote quite a bit of it but then I hit a point where I didn't know what happened next lol so I moved on to something else.

Cody gives him a long look, one of the ones he's learnt from his Jedi. Theyre beginning to merge in to one person. "Fox, do you actually want a job?"

Fox smiles. "Brother, you don't go to interviews if you don't want a job. We can't all marry in to wealth!"

"He's a monk, Fox. He took a vow of poverty."

"Ah." Fox tilts his head. "There's more to wealth than the material."

"True." Cody Acquiesces. "There is a wealth in connections. Much like the ones I used to get you this interview."

His brother shoots him a dirty look.

"If you want the job, you don't tell them you killed your last boss! You aren't stupid Fox, I don't need to explain cause and affect to you! So what is this? Really?"

Fox shrugs. "I'm just done lying to natborns to keep them happy. "

Cody narrows his eyes. "OK fine, but no-one is asking you to get a job with natborns! There are dozens of brothers who'd kill to have you working with them. You know Wolffe keeps offering. Hell! You don't even need a job. Come live with us."

"Oh yes nothing I want more than to live in Cody and Obi Wans home for wayward siblings. Me and Skywalker can share a bunkbed!"

Cody rolls his eyes. "You know there's another spare room."

Then he sighs, looking up at him with those stupid eyes. All hopeful and sickeningly sincere. The Jedi were honestly getting to the guy, Cody was getting all soft. Too much time with tubies and religion could do that to a man.

"Look, just tell me you're doing this for fun." He says. "If you are fucking up all these interviews for shits and giggles then go ahead. We can meet up for drinks and laugh about the stupid natborn of the week. But Fox. If this is something else...Just tell me this isn't some kind of self destruction, OK?"

"I don't not want a job." Fox tries.

The look Cody gives him is pained. "Go on."

In Archie’s defense, he had no idea Maxie would react this way.

“Who knew my husband’s bony backside was so sensitive?” Archie snickered, laughing hysterically at Maxie’s reaction to getting his bum squeezed. He knew he’d get a swat, maybe a hiss of “cut that out, you big oaf!”

All the things he expected, it certainly wasn’t a squeal!

“Archie, you son of a-stahahap!” Maxie twisted away, waving his spatula like a weapon. “Get off, I’m trying to cook! Do you want me to burn dinner?”

“I wouldn’t mind it- I have one heck of a snack before me.” Archie grinned, delighted at how flustered Maxie looked. When the redhead turned back to the pan, he reached out again-

“Archie.” Maxie was so fast! He had his wrist in an iron grin, the deadliest of glares on his face as he pulled the sailor closer. “One more time and I’ll make you regret it.”

Archie considered, looking from his trapped wrist to Maxie’s unyielding glare to the pan of sizzling stir fry.

Then he figured he already lived a pretty good life and pulled towards himself, bringing Maxie into his chest with a yelp. “Arch-ehehehehehehehhehe!” Maxie could barely respond before he was laughing, fingers worming into his ribs as strong arms trapped him. “Whahahhat abohohohout the fohohohoohohood?”

“Ay, don’t worry about that.” Archie kept tickling with one hand as he reached out with the other, pushing the pan off the heat and saving the day. “Now I can tickle you all I want! Hehehe~”

“Yoohohoohoohu’re nohohohohot gehehehhehehetting a sihihihiihngle bihiihihihte of diihihihiner, you jehehheheerk-AH! AHehahahahahha Ahahahhharchie!” Maxie all but squealed when those dastardly hands came back, squeezing the back of his hips and lower spine. “Dooohohoohhon’t!”

Alex couldn’t help but tilt his head a bit when he heard Clive mention ‘not wanting to invade your personal space’. That was a thing? He’d grown up attached at the hip to his siblings, his twin in particular. Things like ‘personal space’ hadn’t existed for him, nor ever crossed his mind. Now he was starting to wonder if he was constantly invading others' personal space. He'd have to go ask a few people later. Whoops!

“I don’t mind, really. Especially if it’ll help you fall asleep. My siblings and I used to share the same beds when we were kids, so I’m used to it.” His older sister had been the one to tell him that ‘sometimes, just listening to someone’s heartbeat can help ease their mind enough to relax.’ He’d taken those words to heart and offered his heartbeat to anyone who seemed to  need it. 

Kids. Grown adults. Some of the other Cursebreakers. It didn’t matter to him, so long as he could help ease their worries; even if only for a second. “I won’t force you. You are your own person, after all. But it’s an option on the table, at least.” A few moments of silence passed before he spoke again. “Besides… everyone deserves comfort. Even you, Clive.” Whether Clive would believe him or not didn’t matter. It was simply something Alex believed in wholly. Besides, he was sure the man could use some encouraging words. He'd been through so much already.

“But, if you’re really truly against the idea, I can go see if Tarja has something that’ll help you fall asleep. Pretty sure I remember her mentioning something earlier…” Even if he hadn't passed out on the docks, it was pretty easy to tell he was wearing himself ragged and needed to sleep. Especially if he was tossing and turning like this every night.

"Anything else you might need? I can grab it while I'm out. Shouldn't be gone too long..." Maybe he would run by the Tub & Crown real quick. Normally a warm drink would help ease his nerves and exhaustion, letting him fall asleep quickly. Might as well try it with Clive. The worst it could do is nothing, after all.

Ok but can we talk about how out of all the major male characters that Ryunosuke interacts with throughout the story, van Zieks is the ONLY one that isn't hiding something from/lying to him at one point or another?? Sholmes lies about Kazuma being alive, Kazuma hides the fact that he's going to Britain as a hired assassin, Yujin hides details about the Professor killings from him in 2-2, Stronghart lies about... Well, everything really. Like there's so much I could say about him lol. Gregson hides the fact that he helped frame Genshin for the Professor killings, McGilded lies about having been the culprit in the omnibus case, Jigoku lies about having been the one to kill Gregson... Etc etc. I personally can't remember a single point where van Zieks was hiding things from Ryuu or just straight up lying about important things to his face. He's an ass to him at first, sure, but he's ultimately on the side of justice and finding out the truth, even if it means hurting his cases or having his worldview challenged (except maybe in the case of Klint, which I'll get into).

Now one might say, "Oh but didn't he hide the fact that he had a brother from Ryunosuke at first?". And to that I say... So what? From van Zieks' point of view, details about his personal life (and ESPECIALLY about Klint) are hard to talk about and, frankly, Ryuu really had no reason to need that info about him, other than just to be nosy. That's why he's so cagey about the topic in 2-3, and why he's (somewhat) more willing to talk about it with him in 2-4/5, because at that point Ryunosuke absolutely DOES need to know more about Klint (and the Professor killings in general). And as for Ryuu's point of view, he really has no reason to be asking about van Zieks' personal life at first, other than the fact that he's just curious about it.

Anyways. I really do believe that, despite how rocky these two's dynamic is at first, it's been built on honesty and straightforward-ness from the start, and I really appreciate how we have an Ace Attorney prosecutor who's more than willing to not hide the truth from his lawyer rival (even if he's making dunks on Ryunosuke half the time, lol)

Okay I have enough fics and shit to write right now as it is, I currently have 4 in the works 🙃, but last night while I was trying to sleep I had a thought. I think I came up with a very baseline very bare bones idea for a possible OUAD 2.

A possible title for which I came up with was Once Upon A Kingdom OUAK if you will. And literally as I typed this out, Once Upon A Winter OUAW akskskskk and it would take place months after the events of OUAD, Chazz and Atticus are officially a couple now, and Atty takes him on a trip to see the Northern Kingdom or the Crystal Kingdom if ur in with the OUAD deep lore 👀 where he and Lexi are from and with Jay, Sy, and Hassleberry in tow, winter wonderland hijinks and capers ensue 👀

Now I have no idea what the actual greater plot would be but I really like the idea of visiting another kingdom since in the 'deep lore' there are 5 kingdoms that exist in the world, but since the Kingdom of the East was canonically destroyed by Slade and Jagger before the events of OUAD, there's still 3 other kingdoms outside the Golden Kingdom. The northern, western, and southern kingdoms if you will. The Golden Kingdom is the central kingdom. So we get to see more of the world, and open the door for more of the ensemble cast to get involved, I fully intend to include Jesse and Bastion at the very minimum if I wrote this I fully imagined a whole conversation with Jaden and Jesse last night, immortal magical fairy Jay gets to flirt with the cute human boy 👀 so I have thoughts happening ☺

Like I said I have no idea what an actual greater plot would look like yet and I have way too much to work on right now to put too much thought into it right now, but I promise babes. OUAD 2 may be on the back burner right now, but it is also very firmly on the table 😉
