You always made it sound so easy when you said you loved me. Aye, well, I don’t think that should be hard. I find it hard, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t feel it.

Your Twin Peaks fun fact of the day
Day #10
The reveal of the killer
Mark Frost and David Lynch have stated that they never had the intention of revealing the identity of the killer. But ABC forced them to, arguing everyone was watching season 2 to find out. Late season 2 is as shitty as it is because of ABC, not because of Frost or Lynch.
In order to prevent information about the killer leaking out, the scene of Maddy's murder was also filmed with Ben Horne as the killer, though this scene was never intended to be shown in any form. Neither Richard Beymer, played Ben Horne, or Ray Wise, played Leland Palmer, knew who the killer was. There was a fake script that was intentionally leaked that indicated that both Ben Horne and Big Ed were the killers.
When they told Ray Wise that it was Leland, the actor got really sad, because he was hoping it wouldn't be him. One of the reason being that he had a young daughter at the time, so the fact that his character had murdered his own daughter really affected him.
Also, totally underrated, but today is Laura Dern's birthday! Happy birthday Laura :) Thanks for all the amazing characters you've portrayed.

She’s Somebody’s Daughter
Tumblr media
Dreamily Delighful moodboard made for me by @robinruns because she is <3 Word Count: 9,577 words. Rating: Teen/Mature? - Best to read the rest of the warnings and decide for yourself.
Warnings: Okay, I’m gonna bold this: this is a fic about having a baby! I don’t think it’s too explicit in detail; I don’t think it’s too detailed because I didn’t want to write that myself (although with the amount of damn research I did for this, I could’ve!) BUT this fic does mention the following: ~ Pregnancy ~ Waters breaking ~ Contraction pain Please let me know if anything else needs tagging - I know a lot of people don’t like reading about pregnancy or birth, but I like to think that I tackle it more from the emotional side than the physical side, so I hope that’s a different angle that is more alright with some people. There’s mentions of adult activities right at the start, though nothing explicitly detailed, just more factual, so to speak. Suggestiveness here and there throughout - but they’re adults and she’s pregnant so that’s to be expected! Other than that - your usual FOC, married couple relationship, a curse or two. Notes: ~ Title is from the song of the same name by Drew Baldridge Hey, what Shelly wants me to write, I write. She wanted this, god knows why, so she got it. Now she wants me to share it. I guess she’s only okay with that because she was okay with sharing Live Forever In The Lights You Make  as well as If We Can Find Where We Belong so if you’ve read those, you’ve kinda already met her kids. But now she’s okay with you seeing her meet her daughter properly for the first time.
It’s a long one!
It’s a fairly significant milestone in Shelly’s life, so I didn’t want to cut it or rush it or anything.
Also, this is for Shelly’s birthday this year <3
-+-+-+-+-+- October 31st. It had started off as a good day. Gerard had woken up and snuggled with his very pregnant wife. That had ended up with them (him especially) getting a little… Gently frisky, and he wasn’t even sorry about it. How was he supposed to be sorry for wanting to please her? For wanting to make sure she started her day with a good time, a good orgasm even? He couldn’t help it, there was just this… Primal urge to be with her all of the time and that had just grown stronger over the course of her pregnancy. Privately, he blamed his caveman brain, but she just looked so good pregnant. Shelly had whined at him as he stuck his fingers in his mouth and he’d chuckled around them as he watched her move to sit up. She winced a little and Gerard frowned at her, quickly moving to be closer. “Are you okay?” She exhaled slowly and nodded. “I think so. My back hurts a little.” Gerard made a sympathetic noise. “Can I do anything?” “No, I’ll be okay. It’ll pass, it normally does,” she winced a little again and carefully moved to sit at the edge of the bed. “We have to send Frank a message. Are we gonna text or?” “Did you want to send a video message?” Gerard moved to help her stand. “Mm, kinda shows more effort.” “I’m guessing that you’ve already had something sent to him though?” Gerard couldn’t help but smile at his wife, grinning as she smiled back. “Of course I have,” she grinned for a second before frowning. “I can’t remember what off the top of my head though.” “But you’ll have it written down somewhere,” Gerard said with a nod. “Are you gonna want my help showering this morning?” Shelly huffed softly before letting out a sigh. “Yeah, please. I’m feeling a bit more delicate today.” Gerard hummed and kissed her forehead, holding her as close as her bump would allow. She giggled, leant up and kissed his cheek before going to brush her teeth and whatever it was she did first thing in the morning while he made the bed. When she returned, he went to do the same thing while she brushed her hair, and then they showered together. She didn’t really need a lot of help, not really. He liked to be nearby, especially in the more recent months now she was so close to the end. Gerard got a little worried that she’d hurt herself or the baby, and truthfully he knew that Shelly got a little worried too - that’s why he always asked her if she wanted help, and she was never afraid to ask for help if she needed it now. If only because she was doing it for their baby; if she was just doing it for herself they both knew that she was less likely to ask. Plus, Gerard really loved the intimacy of it all; he always had done but there was just something special about it while she was pregnant. They showered, dried off, dressed and sent Frank a ‘happy birthday!’ video message, Shelly adding a “oh, PS: still pregnant!” which they both knew would make him laugh a little. “I swear he’s more excited than we are,” Gerard said after the message had been sent. “Giant child that one,” Shelly agreed, rubbing her hand over her bump. Gerard noticed her wince again. “Are you sure you’re okay?” “Yeah, yeah. I’ll be fine,” she frowned. “I feel a little sick, so maybe I’m hungry.” They made their way to the kitchen, where Shelly’s mother, Ruby, was already making them breakfast. Gerard tutted a little and tried to take over, but his mother in law shooed him and her daughter away to sit down. “But you’re a guest!” Gerard tried to argue. “I’m here to help Gerard,” Ruby said, pointing a utensil at him. “Don’t be ridiculous. Cooking and cleaning are a part of the deal.” Gerard tsk’d a little. “Yeah, when the baby is born, or when I’m not here and Shelly needs help. I’m here, I can help.” “Babe, don’t argue with her,” Shelly called from her comfortable chair. “Just let her do her thing.” “I’m not arguing, I’m just saying…” Gerard mumbled, going to sit with his wife. “I know,” Shelly soothed him gently. “It’s okay. Just relax and - ah!” Both Ruby and Gerard snapped to look at Shelly as she rubbed her belly. “Darling,” Ruby watched her daughter carefully. “What was that?” Shelly shook her head. “Just a little cramp, I think. I’m fine. I must’ve slept funny.” Gerard and Ruby shared a look and Gerard frowned a little. “Are you sure?” Gerard asked. Shelly nodded and moved Gerard’s hands to her bump, humming quietly when he started smoothing his hands over her. Ruby hmm’d, clearly not quite believing her and finished making breakfast. She kept a close eye on Shelly while they ate, chatted quietly about the day and while they did the dishes. Or, while Gerard helped her with the dishes. Neither let Shelly move or help, much to her annoyance. “I’m pregnant, not an invalid!” She huffed, standing in the kitchen doorway, resting her hands on her hips. Ruby shook her head as Gerard chuckled and kissed her forehead. “Go and sit down,” he said softly. Shelly pouted at him a little but ultimately did as she was told, choosing to go and settle in the living room in the corner part of their sofa. She settled comfortably, nesting between the cushions and sighed deeply before running her hands over her bump, humming a little to attempt to soothe herself. She was getting a little nervous, because she was so close to her due date. She was a little scared, actually, even though she’d tried to stay away from the horror stories, really she had, but she’d still seen a few. Gerard finished helping Ruby tidy the kitchen after doing the dishes before heading into the main room to find his wife. He entered the room in time to see her wince, just a little, as she put her hand to her back “Love, you okay?” Shelly hummed in response. “Yeah, just a little bit of a back ache.” He frowned but went to sit next to her anyway, leaning closer to steal a kiss. Which she happily gave him, of course. “I have to go out,” he said quietly. “Just got a few errands to run.” “Is mama making you run around again?” Shelly almost purred as he nuzzled against her. “Nope, I offered, and I have one or two things of my own I need to do.” “Mm,” Shelly stole a kiss for herself and giggled when he smiled against her lips. “Okay. Don’t be long though, will you? I’m feeling clingy today.” Gerard tutted playfully. “Just today?” Shelly mock-gasped and gently hit his arm. “Hey! Be nice to me! I’m very pregnant and very tired.” “Of course love,” he said genuinely before kissing her forehead. “I know your body is working very hard, growing and housing that baby.” “Mm hm,” she hummed again. “Exactly.” “I won’t be too long. Call me if you need me, okay?” Shelly nodded and shooed him off, which just made him laugh. He went to double check a few things with Ruby before heading out. And, like he said, he wasn’t too long. Or at least, he didn’t think he was, but when he returned home the energy in the house felt different. He put away the things he’d picked up and went to find his wife. He found his wife and his mother in law in the bedroom, re-making the bed. “Um, hi?” Shelly huffed quietly as she helped her mother put several layers on the bed - Gerard was familiar with what they were doing. He’d watched (and re-watched) a lot of home birth experience videos with his wife and several of them mentioned that if you layered certain materials on your bed, you could just strip off the first couple of layers and you never be able to tell that there had even been a home birth there. He hurried over and gently moved Shelly out of the way to take over with helping Ruby. “Hey Gerard,” the older woman smiled gently at him. “You get everything done okay?” “No issues at all,” he nodded. “So, why are we doing this?” “Because Shelly had a show while you were out,” Ruby smoothed down the top layers and started replacing the pillow cases. Gerard frowned as he tried to remember what that meant, turning to his wife when it came to him. “You did? Are you okay?” Shelly nodded. “I’m fine, just…” “She’s worried but doesn’t want to admit it,” Ruby said as she set the pillows back on the bed. “Mama.” “Shelly,” Gerard took her hands. “You gotta tell me this stuff.” “He’s right.” Shelly frowned at them both before snuggling against her husband. “Don’t gang up on me.” “What happens now?” Gerard asked, turning more towards his mother in law. “We wait,” Ruby replied. “This is the longest part. She just needs to rest when she needs to, be gently active and to try and stay relaxed. We are probably going to be in this stage for most of the day, and it’ll be a little while before we can call the midwife.” Gerard nodded, taking this in to hopefully remember. “Okay.” “She’ll feel contractions later, and it’s best for us to keep her more upright for the most part,” Ruby continued as she set some towels out on the floor. “It’ll encourage the baby to move in the right direction. That is, south.” “I am still here you know,” Shelly grumbled as she stayed snuggled against Gerard, who was more than happy to cuddle her close. “Yes baby, I know, but you won’t take this in.” “So just go by as normal for as long as we can?” Gerard asked. “Mm hm. Make sure she eats, drinks and rests. If the baby is gonna make an appearance soon then it’ll probably be later tonight so she’s gonna be tired when everything starts.” “Okay, I think I can remember that.” “You focus on her basic needs, I’ll focus on the baby stuff, okay?” Gerard nodded, feeling really relieved that there was some kind of plan. “Yeah. Yeah okay, I can do that.” So, that’s what they did. They encouraged Shelly to move around a bit; Gerard took her for a little walk around the neighbourhood, letting her lean on him as much as she needed while they went at her pace and that included stopping as much as she needed to. While they were out doing that, Ruby spent the time adjusting the master bedroom to be more… Nest like, almost. She remembered what they’d discussed when Shelly had been talking about wanting a home birth; Ruby remembered what Shelly had said she wanted and Ruby remembered what the articles said. So she spent the time closing blinds and curtains, dimming lights, adjusting the room temperature and making sure that the room felt safe and private, quiet and dark. It all tapped into the basic, primal, animal instinct to find a small, dark safe space to be one of the most vulnerable positions a human female, well actually - any female, could be in. The more hours passed, the more intense Shelly found her contractions, even though she knew that these were still light compared to everything that was still to come. She wasn’t that worried for the most part and she thought that that was down to having her mama around and the fact that Gerard was the most supportive man she’d ever met. She was so completely in love with him - she trusted him with not only everything she had, but she trusted him with the little person inside her. She knew he was worried, maybe a little scared, but he was putting on such a brave face for her and he was doing so well with looking after her. “Gee, stop jiggling your leg,” Shelly mumbled from her spot next to him on the sofa. “Sorry,” he shifted so he could kiss the side of her head. “Are you sure you don’t want a water birth? It’s not too late to sort the pool thing out.” Shelly giggled. “Is that what you’ve been thinking about?” “I…” He shook his head. “One of the things. I’m just… It sounds stupid, but I’m nervous.” “Oh, love it’s -” Shelly huffed as she was cut off by a contraction. “Okay, that hurt a bit.” Gerard frowned. “Are you okay? You need anything?” “I’m fine. Not gonna worry until my waters break.” “That’s a pretty decent view to have right now,” Ruby entered the living room with some snacks and drinks - the latter of which Shelly reached for first. “You seem to be doing okay. How are you feeling?” “Tired, I think.” Shelly reached for some of the snacks that her mother had put on the table. “Hungry?” “Sounds like your body is trying to store energy?” Gerard suggested. “Do you think things are going to start ramping up a little more?” “It’s possible I guess,” Shelly shrugged a little as she ate slowly. Ruby giggled a little and stroked her daughter’s hair. “I don’t think so, not yet. Like Shelly said, it really ramps up when the waters break. Until then, it’s not too bad. But you’ll know when things are happening because she’s gonna get really bossy.” Gerard snickered a little “Going to get?” Shelly glared at her husband. “Excuse you?” He had the decency of looking a little bit guilty. He bit his lip for a moment before nuzzling her and murmuring to her. “I’m sorry love.” Her glare softened and she hummed happily. “Oh, I suppose I can forgive you. Because you’re pretty and all of that.” Gerard chuckled and kissed her cheek. Another couple of hours passed. Shelly managed to sneak a little nap in, curled up on their bed while snuggling against Gerard’s pillow and the t-shirt that he’d worn to bed the night before. It had been the only pillow that her mother hadn’t changed the case of earlier because it had been something that the two women had discussed beforehand. Shelly had read somewhere that having comforting items around would be a huge help in keeping her relaxed, and while she really did want Gerard with her at all times, she also didn’t want to keep him anchored down and maybe bored. Having his things around was going to be the next best comforting thing. It was working too. And truthfully, being at home was helping massively as well. She was just waking up when Gerard went to check on her. He stood in the doorway, watching her nuzzling against his pillow a little as she woke up. This made him smile because she would do that when she was cuddled against his chest too - she’d nuzzle close as she started to wake up and then - yeah, there she went. Then she would stretch a little. “Hey Gee,” she mumbled, sitting up slowly. He smiled and crossed the room to sit on the bed next to her. “Hey love. How’re you feeling?” “I want my baby now, to be honest,” she confessed quietly with a shy smile. Gerard chuckled. “Well, you know one thing they say that sometimes brings on labour...” Shelly watched him wriggle his eyebrows at her, grinning at her in the way that he did. She snorted, laughed and lightly hit his arm. “You dog. Give over.” Hearing her laugh made him relax a little more. “Other than that, how are you?” Shelly frowned a little as she thought about it. “Still sleepy. Achey. A little sick?” Gerard stroked her hair. “Is that normal?” “Not sure,” she mumbled, moving to get up. “Help?” He chuckled and helped her up and to the bathroom. “I’m gonna go and get you a drink, okay?” “Okay,” she called from the other side of the door. “Can you get my phone? I think I left it on the coffee table.” “Sure.” He made his way downstairs, grabbed her a drink, and, upon second thoughts, a snack as well before he then went into the living room to grab her phone. Ruby looked up from her book when he reappeared. “She awake?” She asked. Gerard nodded. “Yeah, she says she feels a little sick though, so I figured I’d try giving her a drink and maybe something to eat, just in case it’s that.” Ruby hummed. “I think you should encourage her to go back to sleep if she can Gerard. She’s really going to need the energy. The next stage can take a long time.” “Oh geez,” Gerard sighed. “I mean, she’s been feeling strange since we woke up, so she’s been at this for like, seven hours already? Is that normal?” Ruby nodded. “Stage one is three parts; one and two, are the body and baby doing the final preparation work. Combined, they can take up to twelve hours. Sometimes longer for a first time mother.” He winced. “What about the third?” “That’s the transition into stage two.” “I’m guessing stage two is the actual birth?” Ruby nodded. She knew that he’d learnt all this in the birthing classes, but didn’t mind refreshing his memory - he’d probably forgotten with all the touring they’d done and it was probably nice to have a refresher in the moment. She heard him sigh. “Are you alright?” Ruby asked gently. Gerard nodded and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Yeah, I’m just… Nervous, for her mostly I think. I’m more than happy to just do whatever I’m told because she’s the one doing all the work, but…” She heard him trail off as he bit his lip. “Don’t worry too much, she’ll know what to do. She’ll know what to do naturally. And by the time it gets really difficult we’ll have the midwives here to help. And, the hospital isn’t that far away, just in case.” He exhaled slowly and nodded. “Yeah, yeah I know you’re right. I just… I just want her, want them to be okay.” Ruby moved to place her hands on his shoulders. “You’re a good man, Gerard. I am so glad that you two found each other.” Gerard smiled brightly, a light blush dusting his cheeks. “Thank you ma’am.” Ruby tutted softly. “Don’t call me that. Get yourself back up there to her.” He saluted a little and made his way back upstairs to find his wife standing in the bathroom, leaning with her back against the doorframe. “Babe?” He put everything down on the nearest surface. “You okay?” “No,” she whispered, rubbing her belly. “No, I’m not.” “What’s wrong?” He made his way over. Shelly panted for a second, wincing. “I think… I think my waters just broke while I was brushing my teeth.” Gerard’s eyes went as wide as the moon and he almost went just as pale. “Oh, fuck, okay, um…” “Gee, calm down,” she huffed a little. “I think we have to start timing contractions now, and I think the midwives need to be called.” “I’m going to tell your mother,” he said as he ran his fingers through his hair. “She’ll probably deal with that bit then I’m going to come right back and we’ll go from there.” “I'm gonna wait right here, I’m not gonna move.” She smiled weakly at him. “But if you could pass me my phone, that’d be great.” Gerard did as he was told. “Do you not want me to help you to sit down first?” Shelly shook her head. “I wanna clean up a little bit before I do that but you should go and tell my mama that my waters have broken so she can get that ball rolling.” “Oh! Yes! Right!” She giggled as he hurried away to do just that and checked her phone. She had a reply from Frank, thanking her and Gerard for not only the birthday video message, but the gift she’d had sent over (it had been some kind of pedal that he’d been lusting after. Shelly didn’t understand the difference between them, but Gerard did and he said that it was really good, so they’d gotten him the one he was after. Although Shelly had snuck in a tin of picks from a company he liked and a new guitar strap that she’d picked out in a gorgeous, almost ombre, burnt orange with a black trim.) Frank’s message also kinda scolded her for those extra things; “It’s too much Shell, really, you know you don’t have to do that. But thank you, they’re perfect.” But she did, oh how she did. She loved her family and spoiling them on their birthdays was one of her love languages. Then again, Gerard sometimes teased her by saying that adopted all of the love languages. She couldn’t help it - she just never wanted people to doubt how she felt about them. He’d also added that the “ps: I’m still pregnant” had actually made him laugh, and that had made her grin - she liked being right sometimes. She sent him a little smiley face and a “you’re always welcome Frankie” message before almost dropping her phone as a contraction hit her. She huffed her way through it and went back to the other message on her phone. It was from Mercy. “Hey mama! How’re you feeling? Do you think you’ll be at Frank’s tonight? If not, do you want Mikey and I to bring you anything?” Shelly smiled, rubbed her hand over her bump and replied very quickly, briefly wondering what was taking Gerard so long. She wanted to clean up a little and wanted him nearby in case she got wobbly. “Hey babe. I’m pretty close to murdering my husband, do you think you can help me with a cover up? ;) As for Frank’s… Yeah, we’re not gonna be able to make that - my waters broke just now! (Gee’s probably going to send a group text in a minute, now that I think about it; it’s a pretty big thing. I apologise for the spam in that case!)” She hit send and rolled her eyes at herself. It seemed very typical of her that, even while in labour she would send grammatically correct, and properly spelt, text messages. Not long after she had that thought, Gerard was back by her side. “Okay, Ruby knows, she’s dealing with whatever needs to be dealt with there now,” he rushed out. “She told me to stay with you and make sure you’re comfortable and to do as I’m told?” Shelly laughed softly and gave him her phone, watching him go to put it on the bedside table for now before hurrying back to her. “That sounds about right,” she accepted his help to stand up properly. “But you’re so good at doing as you’re told anyway.” Gerard cleared his throat and started to help her clean up a little, remembering that Ruby had told him to see if he could check the colour of the fluid, because that would be something the midwives would ask about. She’d told him what to look out for too, and as far as he could tell, everything seemed okay. Once the floor was cleaned up, he helped his wife before leading her back to bed. Shelly settled on the edge, purely so she would be able to get up and move easily and looked up at him. “You okay?” She asked quietly. Gerard nodded a little. “Just… A bit nervous.” Shelly raised an eyebrow at him and he suddenly looked very worried, which just made her laugh. “Wait wait! I know I’m not the one doing the work!” He added quickly as she giggled. “I’m just…” He trailed off and dropped to his knees in front of her, crawling between her legs to nuzzle her bump. Shelly hummed a little, pulled her shirt up so he could touch her skin before she started stroking his hair. “I’m just a bit scared,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to her belly. “I’m scared something’s gonna go wrong. I don’t want to lose either of you.” Shelly let out a very soft whine and grabbed at his t-shirt to pull him up to her level, which he more than happily went with. She pulled him close enough to be able to kiss him; a short, hard kiss as she cupped his face in her hands. “I love you, I love you so much.” “I love you too,” he kissed her forehead as her hands slipped down his neck to his shoulders. “Just… Remember that over the course of however long this is gonna take, okay?” Shelly asked, looking up at him. “I’m probably gonna get mean, but I don’t mean any of it.” Gerard chuckled. “I know.” A minute later, Ruby cleared her throat softly from the doorway, making them look over to her. Gerard went a little pink, like a teenager caught doing something he shouldn’t be doing and Shelly giggled softly. “Hey, mama,” Shelly said quietly. “Hey mama yourself,” Ruby smiled. “How’re you doing?” Shelly thought about it for a moment before shaking her head. “I’m not sure. I feel a little tense, anticipating the next contraction maybe? I know they’ll get worse from here.” Ruby nodded once and sat next to her daughter, taking her hand. “You’ll be okay. You’ve got me, you’ve got Gerard, you’ll have the professionals when they get here. We’re all on your side, we’re all here to make this as easy as we can for you.” “It’s not too late to go to the hospital either,” Gerard said, sitting on her other side. “If you change your mind.” “I don’t think I’ll be doing that,” Shelly shook her head. “I want to be here. I feel safe here, I feel more relaxed here.” Gerard nodded slowly. “Okay. But, you’ll go if the professionals tell you to, right?” “Of course I will. But they’ll only tell me to go if something is wrong.” Shelly turned her head to affectionately head-bump her husband’s arm. “It’ll be okay Gee. They’ve done this before, women have been doing this for millennia. Without hospitals! It’ll be okay.” Ruby chuckled. “That’s my smart girl.” “I…” Gerard sighed and nuzzled into the top of Shelly’s head. “I know, I know.” “We need to start keeping track of your contractions a little more now,” Ruby said, watching her daughter shift in her spot before she stood up to wander around a little. Gerard pulled his phone out of his pocket to find the app he’d downloaded while he was in the kitchen with Ruby earlier, after Shelly’s waters had broken. She’d reminded him how to go about timing the contractions as well, which he was so grateful for as his mind had gone incredibly blank. “You remember the breathing tips from the classes?” Ruby asked as she watched the younger woman. “Mmm!” Shelly didn’t get far before she had to grab onto the nearest piece of furniture. “Ye- yeah. Yelling isn’t great for my body, there are other things -” Gerard frowned a little as his wife cut herself off with a huff. “Can you talk through it?” Shelly shook her head and Ruby got up to rub her daughter’s back a bit until Shelly managed to straighten up. Ruby patted her shoulder and left the room for a bit, returning with the birthing ball. She also recovered the water bottle that Gerard had originally brought up to give to Shelly before they had discovered that her waters had broken. “One of these really helped me with you,” Ruby said, putting the bottle on the side table and the ball on the floor near the bed. “They’re easier to get up off of, and they put you at a good height to lean against someone sitting nearby on a bed if you need to.” Shelly nodded and moved to hug her mama for a moment. Gerard watched the older woman stroke Shelly’s hair before she spoke softly to her. He didn’t hear what they were saying and that was okay. He didn’t need to know everything. After a couple of minutes, Ruby let her daughter go and left the room. Shelly sighed and carefully settled on the birthing ball, taking a minute to steady herself. “Gee? Will you braid my hair for me please?” He blinked rapidly but nodded. “Of course love.” Shelly managed to stay still enough for him to brush and braid her hair to keep it out of her face. Once he was done, she made him sit on the edge of the bed to test out her mother’s suggestion, and actually, she ended up resting her head high against his chest. “I could sit on your vanity stool,” he suggested softly. “That’s an inch or so lower and you’d be against my neck a bit more.” “Oh! Yes, good idea!” Gerard laughed softly and went to put the stool closer to the bed so she wouldn’t have to travel far. He had the feeling that movement was going to get more difficult when the contractions ramped up even more. He sat down and soon she was perched on the ball in front of him. He was right - she was able to lean against him with her nose against the base of his throat, which also meant that she’d be able to bury her face against his collarbone if she needed to. Gerard knew that she liked that. “That help?” He whispered, smiling when he felt her nod. “Do you think you should try and rest some more, or are they going to be too close?” “Not sure,” she mumbled. “Feeling a little fuzzy headed.” Gerard wrapped his arms around her as best as he could and stroked her back as she nuzzled into him some more. He kissed whatever he could reach and she let out a soft groan, clinging onto him harder. “I’ve got you,” he whispered. “I’ve got you. I’m not going anywhere. Never left you to go through anything alone before, I’m certainly not starting now.” Gerard had never lied to her before (not in a malicious fashion at any rate. He’d told little white lies about surprises for example.) And that utterance had been no exception. He stayed right by her side for the whole process. He timed her contractions as best as he could while also trying to comfort her and cater to her every whim (although he did that in their relationship anyway so it wasn’t like it was hard). He stayed within arms reach of her at all times, even when the midwives turned up to do… Whatever it was they were doing. He wasn’t focused on them, he was focused on his wife. However, at that point, he had never been more grateful for his mother in law - she was focused on the midwives and what they were doing, relaying that to Shelly if she needed it. She would also disappear every so often and come back with drinks and snacks for those that needed them, which he appreciated because Shelly was just not letting him go. She was very adamant on keeping him up at the same end as her instead of letting him near the other end, which was fine by him, actually. Shelly was either grabbing his hand, or clinging onto his clothes. She used him for support a lot when she moved around during the contractions and he didn’t mind in the slightest - that’s what he was for; he was there to be whatever she needed him to be. Something to lean on when she was hit with pain? Sure thing! Something to snuggle against when she felt herself getting wound up? Not a problem. The fact that she kept reaching for him and kept holding onto him comforted Gerard a little because it let him know that he was doing the right thing by staying that close. He’d originally been worried that he’d just get in the way or that she wouldn’t want him there. Clearly Gerard had been very wrong and he was incredibly grateful for that. Gerard wasn’t sure how long he comforted her through the rapidly increasing contractions both increasing in frequency and increasing on the pain scale too apparently. But he comforted her as best as he could, letting her do what she wanted - even if that did involve grabbing onto his thigh really rather hard. He had a feeling that he would either have bruises tomorrow or indents from her nails, but he was most certainly not going to voice a complaint about it because she might just kill him. He did enjoy it when she tugged him closer to nuzzle against him though; he relished in those little moments while she was going through this. He rubbed her back, gave her hot or cold compresses, fed her ice chips; he did literally everything she asked for however long it was. The only times he let her go was when Ruby helped her to the bathroom and back, or when she wanted to change position - but even when she moved she’d always gesture for him to join her very quickly afterwards. Actually, he’d been a little embarrassed the first time she’d done that. She’d almost yelled for everyone to leave, grabbing onto his t-shirt so he knew to stay before she ended up on all fours to help her back once everyone had. He’d moved to rub her back but she’d growled at him to get under her. He’d done as he was told, naturally, after throwing some pillows on the floor so he didn't end up with a bad back too. She didn’t seem to mind this though. “Hi,” he whispered, feeling his cheeks warm up. “Um, this is a bit…” Shelly had whined and lowered herself onto her forearms instead of her hands, burying her face against his neck to nuzzle against him and to take a little pressure off of the front of her body. “Oh,” Gerard had whispered, wrapping his arms around her to stroke her hair. “Is this helping?” She nodded. “Probably not for long but, I’ll take what I can get.” “Okay,” he kept his voice soft and gentle. A few minutes later, Shelly giggled before murmuring against his neck. “Even if you think this is a little hot.” “Well!” He spluttered, hoping that no-one was outside listening as he lowered his voice. “Normally when you growl at me like that and order me onto my back, certain things happen…” Shelly laughed again and pushed herself back up before she sat on him, straddling him as she let out a soft huff. “Not as comfortable as the ball right now but I need a minute before I can move to the next stage of getting up.” Carefully, Gerard sat up and leant forward enough to brush some loose hair off of her face, tucking some of it behind her ear. She smiled shyly at him, starting to look a little tired. “Hi beautiful,” he whispered again. “Hi,” she shook her head at his compliment, going a very light shade of pink. “You’re doing great,” he said quietly. “You’re doing so well.” Her expression softened. “I am?” Gerard nodded eagerly. “So well sugar. So well.” She visibly relaxed and sighed. “I’m tired though, I wish I’d napped a bit more earlier.” “I know,” Gerard shifted again and held her, feeling her nestle against him again. “But you’re still doing so well. I know it’s really hard though.” “Mm,” she grabbed his shoulders and groaned against his neck for the duration of the next contraction. “Oh, fuck that hurt.” Gerard held her a little tighter. “I feel like I should apologise for putting you through this.” “I’d threaten to do something violent to a certain part of you,” she said quietly before giggling. “But I think that would be mean and I think I might miss it.” He spluttered and knew he was blushing. “Um, thank you?” Shelly laughed against his neck again and stayed snuggled against him for a little longer, enjoying the cuddle and the way he was stroking and rubbing her back. “Mm, I need to try and move a little. You might have to slide out from under me and then help me up.” He nodded and waited for her to move as much as she could before carefully, oh so very carefully removing himself from under her. Once he was on his feet, he could help her up better and soon they were standing in the middle of their dimly lit bedroom, holding hands. “You alright?” He asked quietly. Shelly nodded. “Thank you, for going along with the home birth thing for me.” Gerard smiled softly, leant down and kissed her lips once. “It’s what you wanted.” “Oh for…” Shelly clung onto him and buried her face in his t-shirt. “God, I love you.” “Love you too,” Gerard whispered to her, rubbing up and down her back. “Can I do anything? Do you need anything?” Shelly thought about this for a moment, feeling his arms wrap around her a bit more. She shook her head. “Just need you.” Gerard almost melted and had to clear his throat softly. “You- you’ve got me babe.” “You’re doing so well,” Shelly leant up to kiss his cheek. “You’re looking after me so well.” “Anything for you, you know that,” Gerard felt her move away before she perched on the edge of the bed again. “Love?” “I’m tired,” she whispered. “I’m so tired.” Gerard moved to kneel in front of her. “I know love, I know. I think we’re closer to the end than the start now though?” Shelly made a humming noise and leant down to kiss his forehead before resting her cheek on the top of his head. When she let out a sigh, he felt it and chuckled. “I think I’m too hot,” she said after another few minutes. “I might need to change.” “Alright, let me help you.” She accepted his help to change into something else; a little less, actually. She twisted her braid up into a bun and rested her hands on her belly for a moment, huffing slightly. When she looked up, Gerard was looking at her like he’d never seen her wearing so little and so pregnant before. He looked in awe, really. “What?” She asked, shifting a bit under his gaze, feeling a little uncomfortable. He blinked rapidly for a moment before shaking his head and moving to hold her. “I… No… Sorry love, I just… You’re so beautiful.” Shelly laughed softly. “I don’t really feel it right now… Like, I know I should probably not bother wearing anything but I’m just…” “Feeling a little shy?” Gerard asked, cuddling her. He felt her nod and hummed quietly to her. “That’s okay. Are you feeling comfortable enough now?” “I… I think so. I feel less hot.” Gerard was about to say something else but Shelly started going through another contraction. He helped her through that as best as he could, like he had been for the rest of them. He heard the door open and recognised Ruby’s footsteps as she rejoined them. He knew that the midwives wouldn’t be too far behind after that. He had absolutely no idea what the time was, or how many more contractions they got her through but either way he was very surprised when, after one particularly painful sounding contraction when Shelly was able to get her breath back she spoke. “I think, I think I want to push.” Gerard looked from his wife to his mother in law, who looked a little amused. He then looked at the midwives who just nodded. “Is that… Alright?” He asked softly. “A mom knows when she’s ready, it’s all instinctual.” One of them said as the other nodded. Ruby chuckled. “Absolutely. If she says she’s ready, she’s ready.” Gerard returned his attention back to his wife. “Shelly? That right?” Shelly nodded and grabbed his hand. “Oh, I’m so ready. And I think that baby is too.” “Are you ready, dad?” The shorter, younger midwife asked. Gerard shook his head. “Doesn’t matter if I am, she’s running the show.” “Good man,” the older midwife grinned. Shelly laughed softly. “I know that. That’s why I picked him. Can we get on with this now?” Well, Gerard wasn’t wrong - Shelly was definitely the one running the show. She had been all day, and she most certainly was right then at that moment. He did exactly as he was told, exactly when he was told to, not only when Shelly ordered him around, but when the midwives and Ruby suggested things to him. Like, helping her change positions or supporting her body. He had to encourage her to slow down a little bit at one point, because he was closer to her ears so she would actually listen to him. “Shelly, take a breath,” he said softly. “A big one. Please.” She glared at him and for a moment he thought that she was going to dig her heels in and be stubborn, but he was then massively relieved when she did as she was told, letting the breath out slowly. He smiled and kissed the top of her head. “Good girl,” he murmured. “Thank you.” This made her giggle weakly before she groaned. “Alright mom, you can keep going,” one of the midwives said. “You’re doing great, you’ve got this.” “I can’t,” Shelly whispered to Gerard. “I can’t.” “Do you need to move?” He asked quietly. “Do you want to change positions?” “I, ah… I don’t know. Is it safe?” Gerard looked up to see Ruby quietly conversing with the midwives before she turned back to Gerard. “It’s safe, but she’s in a good position right now if she doesn’t want to move.” Shelly shook her head. “Too tired.” Gerard soothed her gently and they let her rest for a few minutes as he helped her have a drink. She shifted her position ever so slightly so she could be closer to her husband, resting against him for a moment, but ultimately she stayed as she was. He kissed the top of her head. “You’ve got this mama,” he whispered. “You’re the strongest person, the strongest woman I know. I love you and you’ve totally got this.” “Sap,” Shelly mumbled with a smile. “Always,” he grinned down at her. “Alright? Think you can keep going?” “Not much more sweetheart,” Ruby said quietly from Shelly’s other side. “Just a little more effort and then it’ll get much easier, okay?” Shelly nodded, took another couple of breaths and anchored herself to Gerard again so she could give it her all, hoping that she’d have enough energy to get through it. Much to her surprise, she totally did. Her mother was absolutely right; it took one more surge of effort but after that the rest was easy. “Hey, there we go, well done mom!” Shelly panted softly and felt Gerard move closer as both him and her mother helped her shift so she could sit up a little bit. This didn’t take too long so there was very little time between the final push and the baby being gently put on Shelly’s chest. Ruby covered the baby up with a soft towel and smiled as her daughter automatically started gently patting and rubbing the baby down. She tilted her head as one of the midwives whispered to her before they left the room for what was known as the ‘golden hour.’ “Oh my god, oh my god,” Shelly breathed to the baby. “Oh my god, you’re so small.” “Shelly,” Ruby said quietly. “You’ve got a baby girl.” Gerard’s eyes widened as he looked between the two adult women. Shelly tore her eyes away from the tiny human on her chest and looked up at her mother before she turned her attention to her husband. “R- really?” Gerard asked. Ruby nodded as she stood up. She leant down and kissed the top of her daughter’s head before squeezing Gerard’s shoulder before she left them alone for a little bit. “Hey,” Shelly whispered to the little bundle. “Hey little girl, hi. Oh, my god. Oh my goodness.” Gerard moved closer so he could wrap an arm around his wife. “Shell… Shelly, she’s so little.” “Look at her Gee,” Shelly shifted her body so the baby was angled up a tiny bit more. “Oh, my god.” “Can I touch her?” Gerard whispered, waiting for his wife to nod before he gently slipped a finger under the baby’s small hand. Shelly watched him as he did this, watching just how hesitant and careful he was being. He was clearly nervous but so in awe. “Gee, you okay?” He nodded once and swallowed. “Oh, god, Shell, look at her. You did that.” “Gee, no. We did this.” “Oh no Shelly,” he kissed the side of her head. “You did that. You did all the work, I barely did anything. She’s all you.” Shelly almost purred at him. “She’s not just me, she’s you too.” “Poor thing,” Gerard mumbled, marvelling at her tiny ear. She giggled softly and snuggled down with her baby and her husband for a little while. Gerard stayed super close, his body pressed up against the side of his wife’s (although he was fully prepared to move if she wanted him to - but that didn’t seem like it was going to happen) as he gently brushed his fingers over parts of their daughter - her small hands, the top of her head. “Oh,” Shelly whispered as the baby started nestling against her. “Oh, I think she’s trying to feed.” “Is that good?” Gerard asked, supporting them both as Shelly moved her nursing bra so the baby could get to what she needed. “You want me to undo that or are you alright?” “Mm, yes it’s good that she’s trying to feed so quickly. It’s very good,” Shelly paused to adjust her position. “And no, it doesn’t need undoing,” she gestured to how the bra was structured, keeping her voice gentle. “I did show you these, love.” Gerard glanced at her chest before looking up at her face, chewing his bottom lip and trying not to grin too much when she raised an eyebrow at him. “Um, you show me those all of the time,” he said with a slightly bigger smile. “I’m actually pretty fond of them.” Shelly scowled and stuck her tongue out at him. “Oooh, you’re lucky I love you, and you’re lucky I’m holding her and too tired, otherwise I might just slap you.” Gerard laughed softly and nuzzled against her, pulling the blanket up to make sure she was warm enough and not exposed. “You’re right, love. Of course you’re right. I am very lucky that you love me.” “Big softie,” Shelly whispered, leaning her head against him and humming to the baby. “I’m lucky that you love me. You could’ve had anyone.” “So could you.” Shelly tutted at him, but hummed happily when he leant down to kiss her. When he pulled away, they returned to snuggling up together until the midwives returned to check in and do all the weighing and testing and… Whatever it was they had to do. It was all a bit of a blur really, and that was from Gerard’s point of view. He remembered cutting the cord and he noticed that Shelly watched the midwives like a hawk when they had to gently take their baby away from her. He felt her tense up a little bit too so he kissed the top of her head and gently reminded her that they were just doing their job and that their baby was in really safe hands. She relaxed a little and grumbled quietly which he just chuckled at. “Shell?” Ruby said gently. “You gonna come with me to clean up a bit, while Gerard holds the little one?” Shelly whimpered and looked up at her husband. “Gee?” He swallowed and nodded. “Sounds like a good idea honey. I’ll look after her for the few minutes you’ll be away. Alright?” She hesitated but then nodded. “Okay. But she’ll want skin on skin contact…” Gerard pulled off his t-shirt and took the baby from the midwives, all while being watched by his wife. As soon as the baby snuggled against his skin he heard Shelly sigh softly. One quick glance at her though, showed that it was a happy sigh - she was smiling and she looked less hesitant. “She’ll be okay,” he said. “Go on, you’ll feel much better afterwards.” Shelly did as she was told, but squeezed his arm on her way past. He smiled at her but quickly went back to focusing on his daughter, cuddling her close and swaying a little with her. Gerard was aware of movement going on behind and around him, but wasn’t entirely sure what was going on. He had a feeling that they might’ve been tidying the room and stripping the first few layers of sheets and waterproofs off of the bed, but… He really didn’t want to take his eyes off of his baby girl. He more than trusted Ruby to look after Shelly while Shelly trusted him to look after the tiny human in his arms. “Look at you little lady,” he hummed to her. “You are so tiny but the midwives say you’re okay so, that’s good. I’ll trust their opinion because I don’t have a clue. You are tiny and perfect and just like your mama.” From the bathroom doorway, stood beside her daughter, Ruby watched the pair of them fall in love all over again; Gerard with his daughter, Shelly with her husband. The older woman had seen Shelly fall in love with her daughter as soon as the baby was put against her skin, although secretly Ruby thought that Shelly had fallen in love with her baby much sooner than that. Probably from as soon as she knew she was pregnant, if Ruby knew her daughter. Shelly padded across the room and cuddled against her husband, kissing the bare skin of his arm. Gerard smiled down at her and ducked his head to kiss the top of hers. “I think the ladies wanna check you and baby over one more time,” he said quietly, cradling the bundle against his chest. “You can have her back in a minute or two, okay?” The shorter blonde looked up at him and pouted. “But… My baby…” “I’ve still got her, let them look you over to make sure you’re alright, yeah?” Shelly huffed but did as she was told. Once the midwives gave her the once over and the okay, she adjusted the pyjama shorts she’d put on after cleaning up and padded back over to her mother. Ruby smiled slightly and helped her daughter adjust her nursing bra, talking to her quietly as Gerard went to hand the baby over to the midwives. He looked over to see his wife watching everyone very carefully. “Babe,” he called softly. “You wanna find something to dress her in?” This seemed to snap her out of it and Shelly padded around until she found something she deemed suitable to dress her baby in. She took it over to the midwives and helped dress their daughter while they women went over some other things with her. “Are you hungry?” Ruby asked Gerard quietly as the pair watched Shelly. “I’m not, she might be. Or she might just be tired.” Gerard rubbed the side of his eye a little. “I’m a little tired so god knows how Shelly feels.” “Well, there is food in the freezer that can be easily heated if you guys get hungry,” Ruby said. “You know that, yeah?” Gerard nodded. “And you’re an angel for taking care of that for us.” Ruby giggled softly, still finding Gerard’s compliments charming. “Oh, psh. Part of the job description. I’ll make more before you guys want me to leave too.” “I don’t know when that’s going to be,” he admitted, hugging himself. “I know I’m quite nervous about doing this right. I think Shell’s maternal instinct will help her.” “She’s still going to be nervous though,” Ruby patted his shoulder before handing him back his t-shirt. “I’ll stay for as long or as little as you guys need me, you know that.” Gerard smiled gratefully, both at her words and at her giving him his t-shirt. “I appreciate it, so much more than I can say right now.” “Don’t mention it honey,” Ruby smiled at him as Shelly came over with the baby swaddled in her arms. “Hey darling.” “Mama,” Shelly's soft smile turned into a beam when her mother kissed the side of her head. “You two should get some sleep,” Ruby said. “Baby will probably want feeding every few hours, and will probably sleep the rest of the time. You guys will need to sleep when she does for the first few days to catch up.” “Yes mom,” Gerard grinned, receiving a hug from her in response. “We’ll get some rest.” “Good. I’ll see the ladies out and lock up,” she turned to Shelly. “Get some sleep, but wake me if you need anything.” “Yes mama.” Gerard and Shelly thanked the midwives. Ruby hugged her son in law again, kissed her daughter and whispered in her ear before going to show the midwives out. She’d get any more information Shelly would need and pass it on in the morning. Once the bedroom door closed Gerard turned to his wife and just… Stared, as she stood gently swaying and humming to their baby. She was glowing. Pretty much literally because of the low lighting in the room. It reminded him of that one Christmas with the Christmas tree lights and… He shook his head. “Babe? You alright?” Shelly frowned at him, having seen him shake his head. “Y- yeah, I…” He crossed the room and gently wrapped his arms around them both. “God I love you. Look at everything you’ve given me.” Shelly giggled quietly, starting to sound tired now. “And look at everything you’ve given me, Gerard. I love you more than anything. Except maybe this little bean.” “Mm, I think I can allow that,” he kissed the top of Shelly’s head. “C’mon, bed with you mama.” She smiled, cuddled with their daughter for a little bit longer and then carefully passed her over to him before going to settle in bed. Once she was comfortable, Gerard gave the baby back to her so he could move the crib much, much closer to her side of the bed than it had been (it had been pushed out of the way while Shelly was labouring). “Is there good?” He asked, watching her check before nodding. “Okay, lemme have her.” Shelly kissed the top of her tiny head and gave her back to Gerard, watching him stand and cuddle her gently for a few minutes before he kissed her too. He carefully, so carefully, put her in the crib and made sure that she was going to be warm enough before going to curl up with his wife; spooning her so she could face the baby. Shelly appreciated this and settled back against him, giggling as he kissed her neck. “I’m so proud of you Shell,” he mumbled against her shoulder. “I love you so much.” She hummed. “I love you too darling. You did so well too.” He snorted ever so slightly. “You did all the work.” “Hey,” she mumbled. “Did you wanna text the others now, or in the morning?” “Oh. Now might be an idea so it’s as close to the time of birth as possible.” “Mm, mama will know the exact time,” Shelly settled down to be comfortable, her phone on silent and plugged in on her bedside table. “I don’t remember.” “No one expects you to remember that though, love. You were otherwise rather busy,” Gerard sat up as he typed out a message to send to the rest of their family. When he was finished, he carefully leant over his wife to show her, feeling her hand rest over his to steady the phone so she could read it properly, and he couldn’t help but smile and kiss the side of her head as she giggled. “Dork,” she mumbled, tilting her head to him. “Utter dork.” He grinned and kissed her neck. “That alright?” “Perfect,” Shelly hummed. “Send it and come and snuggle with me.” Gerard didn’t need to be told twice; he selected all the contacts he wanted, read it over once more and then hit ‘send’ before plugging in his phone, turning off the lights and cuddling up with his wife. Across the city, several phones beep or buzzed with a notification of a text message. From: Gerard Achievement Unlocked! - Father Mode Fully Activated! +1 to Family Unit Melody Grace Way joined your party on November 1st. At some stupid am time that will be on her records but not in my head. Mama and baby both healthy and fine, just very very tired. Sleep now, pictures tomorrow G x

surprise!
vanessa shelly x reader
tw: none really, slight mention of william afton killing kids
a/n: this is really random but i love the way vanessa says "frickin'" in the movie so i included it in this fic
================================================
You scanned the room around you one last time, checking that everything was in place as planned.
Gold and white balloons adorned every corner, streamers hung off the ceiling, and a romantic candle-lit dinner was prepared on the dining table. The only thing missing was the subject of celebration, who you suspected should be arriving any moment now.
"Happy birthday!" You cried out as Vanessa finally stepped through the front door. She was immediately taken aback; however, her expression quickly became one of joy.
"What is all this, Y/N? You didn't have to!"
You knew that Vanessa didn't like to make a big deal out of her birthday. Hell, you weren't even sure if she remembered that today was her special day, with the way she never mentioned it (in fact, the only reason you knew her birthday was because of that singular time it slipped into the conversation when you were just a month into dating).
"Nessa, babe. I know you have a hard time celebrating yourself, but today is your day, so let me help you feel special, m'kay?" You helped her out of her work gear and guided her to the dining table. Arranged was a variety of all her favourite dishes, alongside a vase of roses. You gave a shy laugh; the food had taken you several attempts before it was satisfactory. "I'm not the best cook, but I tried my best."
"God, I don't even know what to say," Vanessa couldn't suppress the grin that stretched across her face. "Thank you so much, my love. You are the sweetest frickin' angel ever."
One hand cupped your cheek and the other found its home on your waist as she pulled you in for a kiss, her cherry flavoured-lips fitting perfectly against your own. She smelled amazing, like an elixir of vanilla and jasmine that you had now associated with warmth and comfort.
"How about we eat before the food gets cold, and continue this later?" You whispered when you finally pulled apart for air, your face a centimetre away from hers.
"You're right. I gotta see if I should make you do all the cooking from now on."
Dinner was filled with laughter, flirty exchanges, and your girlfriend complimenting your culinary skills. You swore that your face was bright red by the end of it, with her praises and the way she made you giggle till you couldn't breathe.
"Alright, alright, if you thought the steak was good, just wait till you see the cake," you got up and proudly made your way to the fridge.
"There's cake too? You're going to put me into a food coma!"
"Wouldn't be a birthday without a cake. Made it myself too," the excitement in your voice was evident as you set down a colourful cake on the table. Vanessa gasped as she took a closer look.
On the cake was your best attempt at drawing you, Vanessa, and the four animatronics in icing. You were definitely not a professional artist, but your years of art lessons as a kid paid off, if you said so yourself. It was a depiction of your girlfriend's favourite picture: one taken at the pizzeria while the six of you danced to music, Vanessa in your arms as the animatronics looked on with joy (as best as they could, in their robotic ways).
You looked to her for approval, but were alarmed when you were met with her tear-streaked face instead.
She caught you staring in concern and buried her face in her hands, shoulders trembling as she sobbed. You had rarely seen Vanessa cry like this, not even after almost getting murdered by her own father.
"Vanessa? What's wrong, sweetheart?" You wrapped an arm around her, thumb rubbing her shoulder comfortingly.
"I'm sorry," she lifted her head to look up at you with teary eyes. It was astounding how beautiful she looked, despite her smudged mascara and red puffy eyes. "I'm not sad, I promise. It's just, as cheesy as this sounds, no one has ever made me feel this important before. I think you're the first person in this world that has ever loved me like this."
"Baby," you kissed her forehead, on the verge of crying yourself.
"And I can see that you put in so much effort to learn all these little details about me, not to mention the time you must have spent putting this whole thing together. Y/N- fuck, I feel like I don't deserve you."
You rested your head on the nape of her neck, your hand finding hers to interlace your fingers together,
"The last time I had a birthday party, I was eight," she continued with a sniffle. "And,"
A sigh interrupted her sentence, and you could guess that this next part was hard for her to say:
"You know, when there’s a bunch of unsuspecting, innocent children around, my father...h-he takes advantage of that. I begged him to never have a birthday party again after that, because though I might not have been able to stop him, I couldn't bear to be an accomplice to his crimes."
Vanessa's father really messed her up----that much you knew----but it still broke your heart every time you heard her speak about it.
"What he did will never be your fault, Nessa. I love you more than you know, and I need you to know that you deserve nothing but the best."
She cracked a weak smile. "Okay, okay, enough sob stories. I want to be in a good mood when we cut this gorgeous cake of yours."
"You know what, I have something else that may be able to cheer you up." You shook your head in amusement. "Don't you wanna see the presents I got you?"
From behind the living room couch, you grabbed a large gift bag and presented it to her.
And oh did she love it. She couldn’t stop squealing in excitement as she opened your present: a book that was on her reading list, a candle with her favourite scent, a gold necklace that you caught her eyeing at the jewelry store, and a photo album filled with pictures of the two of you.
The cherry on top was a heartfelt card that brought tears to her eyes, once again.
“And also,” you began to unbutton the top of your blouse, allowing her to catch a glimpse of the hot pink lingerie underneath. “A bonus gift.”
“Holy shit, I really am spoiled!”

AITA for blocking my business partner and our mutual friends?
First of all, I want to establish that I'm not an idiot. I don't think I'm the smartest person in the world, I didn't do very well in school, and I'm generally a bit forgetful. I've been struggling with undiagnosed mental illness and neurodivergency for my entire life. My family growing up was very anti therapy and I've only recently brought anything up to a doctor. However, I like to think I manage myself pretty well. I have my own systems for doing things, and they may be unconventional, but it works. I've come to terms with the fact that no matter what I do, I'm going to have to work a lot harder than the average person and get a lot less credit. That's just how it is. I have two jobs, one of which is at a restaurant, and the other is a business that I started with my friend. It's still fairly small and local, but I'm really proud of how far it's come.
Me and my business partner, we'll call her Shelly, have a group of friends that we hang out with from time to time. I honestly don't like them very much, but Shelly, who has been my best friend for over a decade really enjoys hanging out with them, so though I've expressed to her that I want to start seeing them less, I've stayed friends with them, both to make Shelly happy and to avoid any drama that might be caused.
Among this group of friends is someone we'll call Dianne. Dianne will insult and berate me consistently, and then insist it was a joke. Nobody has ever laughed, and I have told Dianne that I don't find any of it funny. The other members of the friend group (aside from Shelly) said that this is just how she expresses that she likes somebody, and tried to make it seem like playful banter, but the insults are incredibly one-sided (I've never said an ill word about her to any of them, and especially not to her. I'm not rude.) and she never insults anyone but me and sometimes Shelly.
Recently ( a couple months or so ago) she started taking digs at my intelligence, as I have been a few minutes late to a couple of our hangouts, and I have trouble with my left and right. I said explicitly that I don't like it when people treat me like an idiot. I tried to be polite, but I won't stand for that. Also, being late and directions are very common things for people to struggle with, so I don't understand why that insinuates that I'm at all unintelligent. She also may have gotten this idea because I don't tend to laugh at her jokes, which are mostly things like "that's what she said" and other cheap and immature sex jokes. She usually tries to brush off the fact that I don't laugh by saying I must be dumb because I don't get her jokes. I do, they're just not very clever and I clearly have a different sense of humor than her.
I just kept trying to avoid any sort of conflict, because the rest of the group makes Shelly really happy. But then it started to get worse. The whole group seemed to be influenced by these jokes, and stopped expecting me to be able to do anything. I wasn't even the designated driver anymore, even though I'm usually the obvious choice because I don't drink. Dianne told me I'd probably crash because she didn't think I could read street signs. I've driven her home multiple times (during none of which she's been sober enough to remember my driving ability) and I've never driven at all irresponsibly while any of them were in the car. The whole group, aside from Shelly, began making jokes about how I was the resident airhead. For my birthday, Dianne got me a toddler sippy cup, and a card that said "Congrats, you're 2!". Get it. Because I'm so stupid I'm basically a child. Ha ha. So funny I forgot to laugh.
The last straw for me was when Shelly sent me a business email that was like "Are you going to be able to get the books done in time?" and basically told me to make sure I wasn't lazy when it came to keeping track of the sales, even though I've never been late with that kind of stuff. I really care about our business, and I keep track of all of the financials and do our taxes. I don't have a degree or anything, I could never afford college, so I emailed Shelly back very passive-agressively about how if she doesn't think I can do it in time, she can hire a real accountant.
We met with the friendgroup the next day and I was incredibly pissed. Dianne made another dig at me, something about our business probably going under because I'm too incompetent to do anything. I snapped. In the midst of yelling at her, I said "I am not stupid. You don't get to treat me like I am." and she said "But aren't you, though?" and I stormed out. I blocked everyone, except for Shelly.
I texted Shelly and said that she could be friends with whoever she wants, but that I'm never speaking to any of them ever again. Shelly said that I was being overdramatic, and that they're all being awkward to her now because they know that we're such good friends. I apologized for putting her in a position where she felt like she was in the middle, but told her that I was not about to take any more of that treatment. I told her I'm disappointed that after all this time, she let other people dictate the way that she sees me. When her new friends call me stupid, I can let it slide off of my back, but when my best friend of over a decade starts treating me like I'm incompetent and I can't get anything done, that really hurts. She told me that I need to learn to take a joke. I blocked her too after that. We've continued having meetings and being mostly civil, but we haven't spoken outside of that, and all the friendship is gone.
I'm mostly concerned about how this situation is going to affect our business, because I have worked so hard and I'd hate to see it fail because of petty drama and insults. I'm now feeling like I made a huge mistake by blowing up. Should I have just kept quiet to protect my job and friendship?

Season of the Witch
Jason, with the whole Arkham Knight thing over is at the manor recovering from the torture and trauma. One day he meets someone that might understand him more than he could ever realize.
“Where is it?” A young woman appeared in the middle of the Batcave. Bruce, still in his cowl, turned to you. “Where is my limited edition signed copy of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein in mint condition?” He knew this would be a gamble. This woman is a witch of the most dangerous sort. Dark longhorns protruded out of your pale forehead. She was seething.  Her eyes started to glow green. “I will destroy this place. Where do you get off stealing from-”
“Here.” A quiet voice from behind you calls your attention away from the Batman. A VERY large man stood behind her offering the book to you. “I wondered where he got this.” The woman became calmer once seeing her book was safe. Your eyes stopped glowing as you approached the person holding your book out to you. The man holding your book was handsome, but scarred. Not just physically but mentally as well, you felt turmoil and pain in his presents. She takes the book and nods her head. “Thank you.” He nods and shrinks back into the shadows then listens as his footsteps leave the cave and enter the manner.
“That’s my son Jason.” You turned back to Bruce now showing his face.
“Cool. Take my shit again and I’ll destroy this place. Got it?” Her eyes turned green again with warning.
And with that you vanished.
A couple days later Dick found himself walking into a small fabric store in downtown Gotham. It was run by no one other than the witch, who isn’t happy with his adopted father at the moment. Jason actually agreed to leave the house and tag along with him.
“Hey Little Wing, I’m going to check in on a friend. She runs a fabric stop downtown. Wanna come?” Jason looked up from his Jane Austin book and originally shook his head. Jason had been locked away and cut off since he abandoned the Arkham Knight persona and moved back into the manor. Dick remembers Bruce bringing him home. At first Dick didn't recognize Jason until Bruce told him. He and Alfred stayed awake for days looking after Jason. It took 4 months for Jason to look at Dick and Bruce.  It took at least another 3 months before Jason started to speak in general. He still doesn’t speak all that much but at least he’s willing to leave the mansion sometimes when prompted.  Dick told Jason that the witch he met yesterday would be there as she owns the shop. It took a little more convincing before Jason said yes to coming with him.
“Spooky I’m back!” Jason’s eyes almost popped out of his head as the witch he saw yesterday but you didn’t look like yourself. You had no horns. He felt disappointed as he liked your horns. In Jason’s eyes you shouldn’t have to hide yourself but know why you did.
“Uh Grayson, go away I’m busy this week and don't have time to- oh, Jason hello.” Jason nodded again at the women in front of him. “Grayson piss off.” She growls. “I don’t have time to “whip up” something for you because you and whoever are in an argument or you forgot a birthday or anniversary gift for someone. I have too many customers for that this week.” The witch said tidying up your shop. “Aw come on Spooks, don’t be like that! I always pay well.” Jason elbowed his older brother for being dense.
“That’s not the point dickhead.” He mumbled.
“You just want someone to talk to about books. Bruce told me he heard you talking to Alfred about how impressed you were with the quality of her mint condition-”
“Can it!” Jason growled.
“Huh…. well as of right now you, Dick, and Bruce are now allowed in or around my shop. He took my shit and you only come in when you need something and it pisses me off.” Grayson’s cheek got red as he realized what he had done to his friend. “But Jason?” She called turning back to the brothers. “You can come in anytime. I would love to talk about literature with you.”
“What’s your name?” Jason asked flat toned.
“Y/N L/N.” You answer. Jason nods again. “If you’d like to meet me at the bookshop across the way tomorrow, I’ll show you some of my favorite books.” Jason again nods and leaves with Grayson. Back at the manor, Dick enthusiastically told Bruce what had happened.
“You were right. They took to each other immediately. But we aren’t welcome back for a while.” Bruce only chuckled.
“I figured.”
Jason woke up that morning and actually wanted to get up out of bed. He took a shower, brushed his teeth and headed downstairs feeling proud that he was able to complete those tasks. Some days he doesn't want to get out of bed, some days he doesn’t want to leave his room but today was different.
“WOW! UP BEFORE 12!?! AMAZING!” Dick teased. Jason felt annoyance flare up inside him.
“Master Grayson!” Alfred scolded. “Master Todd is excited about his day and you will do well to support him today.” Dick pouted like a three year old and muttered an apology. Jason nodded to Alfred then headed out the door. Jason was surprised to see that you were already waiting for him at the book shop. You had two cups in your hand. Panic started to bubble up in Jason, he hoped you weren’t a coffee drinker. Caffeine does not mesh well with his anxiety.
“Good Morning Jason, I got you some herbal tea. Got one for myself too.” She said in a monotone voice. “If you don’t want it, just say so, no feelings will be hurt. I’ll drink both.” Jason started to calm.  He nodded and reached for the tea. He wanted to thank her but words fought him. She didn’t take a second thought and led him inside.
“Hello Felix, hello Sasha.” She greeted the people behind the counter. “Hello Darling!” Sasha said excitedly, hugging you. “How are you? Who is this?” Jason swallowed and opened his mouth.
“This is Jason. He and I are going to be here for a bit.” Sasha blinked and smiled.
“I’ll close! This way you can be yourself.”Sasha gasped and looked at Jason. “I-uh.”
“He knows Sash. Don’t worry.” Jason breathed in and out. You were taking care of everything and didn’t even know it. Jason started to feel weirdly safe until he realized Felix was staring daggers into him.
“Felix?” Sasha called. The man broke eye contact with Jason and turned to Sasha. “Come on love! Say hello!” Jason was very good at reading people and he could tell right away that Felix had a thing for you but for some reason he is with Sasha. Felix put on a good face and stretched out his hand to Jason when he caught s glimpse of the scarred up skin on Jason’s hand.
“Dude…was your hand ran through a shre-”
“Finish that sentence and I’ll make you eat your tongue.” You sneer, eyes starting to glow. Felix dropped back. Sasha turned to her boyfriend and scolded him then closed the blinds.  Once they signaled that they were good, you turned back into the horned witch Jason met two days earlier.  “The horns scare the locals. One time a mob wanted to burn me alive cause they thought I was the devil.” Jason nodded his head. You saw his eyes become soft as if he wanted to apologize for others behavior.  You waved him off and took his hand. Jason was about to pull back as he didn’t want you to feel his rough hands. Immediately you dropped his hand. “Sorry, I should have asked first. Is it OK if I take your hand?” Jason nodded but still felt uncomfortable. “No it’s not. That’s OK. Come, I want to show you something.” Jason didn’t know how she was guessing his emotions and feelings then realized, you're a witch. Duh. Wait. You can feel it, feel everything he’s feeling. The pain, panic, rage…calm.  Felix then put a hand on your shoulder to which you jumped back and hissed in pain.
“Felix!” Sasha gasped. “Your ring is made of iron! That burns her remember?” Felix looked like he was the one who got hurt and stepped back. You look at your shoulder, a burn mark has formed but quickly healed up. Jason’s eyes caught yours.
"Sorry." Felix mumbled then went back behind the register.
“I’m good.” You reassure him. “ Come on.” Jason nodded and followed you to the back of the library. You looked back and relieved a glass case that had an original Jane Austin manuscript.  Jason’s eyes lit up. You felt yourself smile a little, seeing him excited over something you feel light. Jason looked at the manuscript in aw. “Do you wanna look at it closer?” Jason’s head snapped to you. His heart started to race. With a lift of her hand, you made the book float out of the case and hover in front of Jason. “I can flip through it if you want. Obviously, I can’t let you hold it.” Jason watched as the pages flipped, seeing Jane Austin’s notes and thought about her story. Once the book was placed back in its case Jason and Y/N spent the day looking through books and giving their opinions on them.
Jason was in a good mood when he returned to the manner. He didn’t feel like souring his good mood so he tried to sneak back up to his room. Once he closed the door and turned around the light clicked on. Dick had been waiting for him.
“You spent all day with Spooks and you thought I was gonna let that go?” Jason rolled his eyes.
“Come on. Come ON! Tell me what happened!” Dick sounded like a teenage boy who's never been around a woman before trying to get this brother who is a stud to tell him the mysteries of the women. Jason shook his head and grabbed his book. “We went to the bookstore.” He said casually.
“For 8 hours?!” Dick asked. Jason flinched at Dick’s loudness. You had been soft spoken when talking to him, so accommodating but that’s because you are a witch. You feel things very deeply than most. Jason smiled as he felt something in him start to heal, slightly. All he knew was, you were going to pick him up tomorrow after your shop closed and take him to an apothecary. Whatever that was, Jason was just happy he found someone like him but instead of causing destruction, heals. Suddenly dread started to bubble in him, he destroyed almost everything he touches…what if.
“Don’t.” Dick’s voice broke through Jason’s thoughts. “Don’t get in your head. Remember the feeling she gave you.” Jason’s eyes squinted, not happy that Dick was able to read his mind so well. “Look, I've known Spooks for a long time. When we first met, she lost control of her power because someone close to her cut her wings off and did other harmful things. Jason felt like cold water was poured on him. “She…never really recovered from that. For years, she went around killing a lot of uh...people…who....” Jason knew what Dick was doing. He was trying to censor things so Jason wouldn’t get triggered. “It’s not your story to tell, so don’t tell it. Dick nodded then patted Jason’s leg leaving him with his thoughts.
It was a bad day. Jason couldn’t move and everything hurt. His body ached as the weather changed and hurt his joints. His head was foggy and pounding, yet he wanted to get up and see you. Would you hate him if he cancelled? Jason couldn’t even focus on one thing before slipping unconscious. He didn’t know how long he had been asleep but while later his scenes came back, his body wasn’t aching as much, his head was less foggy and a dull headache was all that remained. Jason opened his eyes to see candles around his room, the smell of lilac and vanilla was faint but comforting. He started to sit up when he caught someone walking in with a metal tray. He knew it was tea as Alfred often carried tea in for Jason on his bad days. Which is why his breath stopped when the person who walked in spoke.
“Oh good you’re up.” Jason snapped his head to the voice. It was you, horns and all. You’re here? Why? He tried to speak but still didn’t have the strength. “Don’t even try. You’ve been out for most of the day. Your body is still not 100%. I made tea though, it should help with the pain.” Jason’s brow furrowed as you helped him sit up. Once the pillow was propped against Jason’s back, you brought the tea over. “It’s a compilation of Vervain, turmeric and honey.” Jason blinked. Where the hell do you get your tea. “You should feel special. I don’t make tea from scratch for just anyone.” Surprisingly he huffed a small laugh out.
“You…made…” You nodded. “Sure did. Vervain is to help you sleep and the turmeric is for the pain. Honestly, I don't like prescription grade stuff honestly.” You say handing him the cup only to see his hands shaking. “Are you strong enough to hold it?” Jason nodded, not wanting to feel weak. He took the tea from you and got as far as his chin before his hands gave out, yet no pain came. Instead Jason opened his eyes to see the cup and tea surrounded in a green light. The cup turned upright and the tea placed itself back in. Jason turned to you, your hand was up controlling the cup. “It was a good effort.” You say matter-of-factually. The cup set itself down on the bedside table. Though his joints creaked, his heart started to warm him.
“Thanks.” Jason finally got out. You waved him off.
“I wanted to show you my apothecary didn’t I? All the herbs that’s in your tea I got.” Jason nodded. A question still lingered. He didn’t ask but wanted to know so bad.
“Did you…make me feel better?” He asked. “No.” You said flatly. “I don’t use magic on unconscious people unless I 1. Know them well or 2 life threatening.” Jason tried to hide the relief on his face. “I’m not going to make you uncomfortable.” You say in a soft voice. Dick’s voice entered Jason’s head and he found himself wanting to ask you about your past. But for today, he just wanted to be in your company.
It took three days for Jason to fully recover from his episode but after a couple weeks he was with you at your sewing shop helping you restock.
“You have a lot of fabric that you sold.” He said, picking up tons of boxes with ease.
“Prom season is upon us.” You say. “A lot of rich parents want a one of a kind dress for their spoiled brats.” Jason laughs. You’re funny, you make him laugh and he feels safe with you. He hopes you feel the same with him as these past few weeks. You’re a nice friend for him to have and you seem to be liking him too since Dick and Bruce were still not allowed in or around the shop. “Ah.” The rest of the day went off without a hitch. You had ordered Belly Burgers for delivery as you both don't like socializing. Unsurprisingly, you knew his order for Belly Burger. Jason went home that  day with a weird feeling in his stomach. He noticed it when you offered to drive him home.
We can take my bike.” You had said. Jason half expected an actual bike instead of a badass motorcycle. Jason then showed you his bike and proposed a race jokingly but instead ended up racing with you through the streets of Gotham. When he got back to the manor, Jason felt happy for the first time in a long time. You had made him feel like a person again and he actually enjoyed himself with another person. Jason made his way up to his room and opened the door. He made his way to his bed, put his things down and made his way to the bathroom to get ready for bed.
“How’d your date go?” Jason rolled his eyes and turned to his other brother, Tim who was dating Barbra. “What? I can’t ask?”
“It wasn’t a date.” Jason mumbled brushing his teeth. Tim smirked in the door frame.
“Then why aren’t you calling me names right now?” Tim said, leaning against the frame.
“Because he’s in a good mood.” Barbra chimed in, standing by Tim. “Why doesn’t everyone cram into the bathroom?” Jason grumbled, spitting out this toothpaste. Tim and Barbra laughed. “It’s nice to see you happy Jason.” Jason whipped his mouth and faced the two not knowing what to say to that so he just nodded. With that, Tim and Barbra left so Jason could head to sleep. He didn’t know what he’d see you next but couldn’t wait till he could.
The Joker had escaped from Arkham again and to top it all off, he went on a rampage blowing up buildings and yours was caught in the crossfire. No one could get a hold of you. Jason couldn’t get a hold of you. Panic was rising in him quickly as he watched the news report in the Batcave. No one had been found in the wreckage yet.
“Any sign of her?” Dick asked. Bruce shook his head. Jason felt his temper rising.
“After everything he did to me,” Jason growled. “You let him live and look at what he’s done yet again.” Jason’s voice started to rise. Tim and Barbra looked at each other while Dick stood between Jason and Bruce.
“Jason I-” Bruce didn’t have time to finish. A portal opened up in the Batcave and a body dropped out. It was you but you were moving very slowly as if you were hurt. Jason raced over to you.
“Where have you been? You weren’t answering your phone I thought…” He trailed off.
“Sorry.” You sounded in pain. “I was busy getting shot.” You revealed a bullet hole in your shoulder, a bullet was still in. “Felix decided to confess, broke up with Sasha,” You took a breath and continued while Alfred started to sit down and prepare to get the bullet out. “I rejected him and he got mad.” Jason pulled you up carefully, holding you so your back was against his front. Helping Alfred get a better angle of the bullet. Meanwhile, Jason was thinking of eight ways to kill Felix. “He’s dead.” You assured Jason. Bruce’s head snapped towards you. “Relax Holier than Thou, he died when my shop collapsed.”
“I don’t understand.” Dick started crouching down to your level. “Why aren’t you healing instantly?” You didn’t really feel like talking anymore. Your head was swimming and you were getting weaker.
“Iron bullet.” Jason guessed. You nodded. Finally, Alfred got the bullet out and your skin pulled itself together. You exhaled fully and focused on getting your breathing back to normal.
“Thank you.” You breathed looking at Alfred.
“Of course miss.” Jason shifted behind you, thinking he was going to help you up, you started to move until he stopped you.
“Hold on.” You then felt one of his arms under your legs while the other supported your back. You wrapped your arms around his neck, a little uncomfortable with the closeness but that was because you were weak and couldn’t defend yourself at a moment's notice. “Relax. I’m just taking you upstairs. You’re gonna need a couple hours to recover.” Dick’s mouth dropped. This witch, the same witch that threatened Batman a couple months ago, wasn't protesting when Jason was holding her. Carrying her. He couldn’t believe it.  Jason made his way to him room, carrying you up many grand staircases.
“Ya know I could have walked up myself if you just waited 30 minutes.” You muttered trying not to blush.
“Yeah but you look like you were going to pass out, so I figured you could pass out on a comfortable bed.” Jason answered. You hummed. “You’ll be sleeping in my room, I wanna keep an eye on you for the next couple hours.” Your head snapped toward Jason who laughed at your reaction. “Do you think I’m the type to take advantage of someone weaker?” You rolled your eyes.
“That’s not why I reacted that way, you moron.” You mumbled. “This is just weird for me.” “What? Someone carrying you?”
“Someone caring.” Jason stopped and looked into your eyes. Once again words escaped him so he continued to carry on to his bedroom. Once he got in, he placed you on the bed and closed the bedroom door.
“I like my privacy.” He said turning to you. You were looking at his book collection. “Which one are you looking at?”
“The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” You say. Jason pulled the book off the shelf and made his way over to you.
“Get comfortable.” Jason said. You raised an eyebrow. “Just…do it.” You got comfortable on Jason’s bed. He sits next to you and opens the book.
“You’re going to read to me?” You ask. Jason nodded. “Why?” You ask looking down. Jason swallowed.
“I care.” You look back at him, but he was already flipping to the first chapter. Jason doesn’t know what chapter you fell asleep on, but he woke up the next morning cuddling you. His arms were around your waist keeping you close. Jason smiled to himself, but then remembered who he was and shot up in bed startling you.
“What?!” You asked. Jason shook his head. “Nothing…bad dream.” You nodded.
“Do you-?
“Want breakfast?” He interrupted scrambling out of bed. “Uh sure.” With that Jason was out the door leaving you very confused.
You teleported down to the kitchen, already changed in new clothes.
“Good morning Spooks! You staying over again tonight?” You opened your mouth to answer but Jason again interrupted you.
“No. She’s leaving after breakfast.” Dick looked between the two of you looking just as confused as you are. “Oh uh…where are you going to stay?” Tim asks.
“At my apartment.” You answer. Barbra gasps. “YOU HAVE AN APARTMENT?” You nod.
“Did you think I lived at my shop?” Tim nodded.
Breakfast was silent and odd as no one could understand why Jason was acting so distant now. You had your suspicions but didn't say anything.  When it was time to leave you said thank you to Alfred and Bruce again for helping you. Alfred then gave you tubs of some easy reheat meals for you to take home. Knowing better, you didn’t refuse. You sent them back to your house via magic of course, as Jason walked you outside. Once you crossed the threshold to the outside, your horns disappeared not wanting to draw too much attention.
“I’ll drive you home.” Jason said, throwing you a helmet.  You caught it then, got on Jason’s motorcycle. You wrap your arms around his waist, noticing he was pulling away slightly, still you didn’t say anything. It was a long awkward drive to your apartment and it didn’t get better when you got off the bike. You open your mouth to say goodbye when Jason speaks first.
“I don’t think we should see each other for a while.” You hum. “OK.” You answer turning away and making your way up the stairs that lead to your porch. Jason grabbed your arm.
“OK? That's all you have to say? You’re not mad?” You sighed and turned back to Jason who was the confused one. “I told you. I’m not going to make you uncomfortable.” Jason let go of your arm and watched you as you disappeared into your apartment. What he didn’t  see were the tears running down your face when you closed the door. He cares, huh? You swallow the lump in your throat and the tears fall rapidly.
“Y/N?” Jason didn’t even try to cover the worry in his voice from the other side of the door. “I know what I said last time hurt you but Dick’s been freaking you cause you haven't been answering him.” No answer again. It’s a lie. Dick wasn’t worried, Jason was. You hadn’t contacted him since he dropped you off at your apartment. It had been a month and Jason just wanted to give you space hoping you’d reach out. He couldn’t bring himself to do it, pride was always going to be his downfall. He started going out with Dick and Bruce on patrol again, even took up a vigilante name, Red Hood. Jason did try to track you down when he was on patrol but only found your shop, now rebuilt (Bruce had a hand in that), closed for the day. It’s like you were actively hiding from him. And actually you were not, until now. You had walked into your apartment building about 5 minutes after Jason arrived, you were currently hiding in the stairwell, waiting for him to leave. You were hurt and still wanted to keep your distance. Dick had actually contacted you for a case a couple weeks ago yet never mentioned if he told Jason or not. From what Jason said, he didn’t. You closed your eyes and when you opened you were back in your apartment when you heard Jason knock again
“If you’re there please open up.” You considered but stayed in your spot not wanting to move in case he heard. You hadn’t spoken to Sasha, who was taking the news of Felix’s betrayal hard. She didn’t want to be around you or anyone at the moment which you understood otherwise you would have asked her to come out of her apartment and tell Jason to go. Somehow, she must have gotten your silent message because you heard the door across the hall open.
“She’s not home.” Sasha’s voice rang out.
“Do you know where she is?” Jason asked.
“No. And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you.” Yikes. Easy Sasha.
“She told you what happened?” Jason sounded pissed.
“No. But I’ve been listening to you for the past half hour and putting the pieces together. You won’t see her. She won’t make herself known to you if you have hurt her. I haven't seen her either. I said some things I regret.” You just smiled. I already forgave you Sasha. “She told me about Felix…and how he died. I just can’t believe she left him there though.” Your breath hitched. You didn’t tell Sasha that Felix had shot you because she started screaming at you and then slammed the door in your face.
“That’s because he fucking shot her.” Jason growled. Sasha gasped.
“He-what? Shot her? What-I-she didn’t-” Sasha babbled. “Now I feel even more like a jackass. If you do find her, tell her to come see me…tell her I’ll listen and that I’m sorry.” You swallowed roughly.
“If I ever find her.” Jason mumbled and seemingly walked away. You waited for the apartment building door to open and close then for the sound of his bike driving away. You then went over Sasha's wanting to patch things up.
About 10pm, you were designing a wedding dress for Barbra, who called your store yesterday to ask you to design and create her wedding dress. You accepted.
“Oh and Jason won’t know I called. We are all letting him sweat it out.” You didn’t know how to respond to that.
“That isn’t necessary but I will have the designs ready for Thursday when you come in.” Barbra thanked you then hung up.  You were almost done picking out the fabric when you heard the window to your living room open. Boots touched the ground and a voice cut through the silence.
“Y/N?” Your jaw dropped, there is no way he broke in. You stepped out of your room to come face to face with the Red Hood. You folded your arms.
“Seriously.”
“You weren’t answering my calls.”
“You said we shouldn’t see each other for a while. I wasn’t going to pick up and have you say you changed your mind only to have you change it again and say you don’t want to see me. I don’t play those games.” You say flatly. Jason takes off his mask.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.” You blink.
“OK.”
“OK? That’s all you have to say?” You shrug. “I came all this way for an ‘OK’?” You scoffed.
“What did you expect? That I fell into your arms crying and saying how miserable it was without you? I know you're a romantic but books don’t portray real life well.” You knew you were being cold but that’s what happened when your heart gets broken, the cold numb feeling comes back. Jason could feel it and knew he wasn’t going to get a breakthrough while you were like this.
“Look…I came to say I was sorry and I said it. I mean it too. I was just scared of feeling close to someone again and I made a rash decision. When…when you want to talk, I’ll listen.” And with that he was back out the window. You closed it and went back to picking out fabric.
You had been so busy making Barbra’s dress that you almost missed the bell going off at the front door.
“Y/N!” Barbra shouted. You turned to her only to meet the eyes so Jason, not that you were surprised. He’s been watching you from the rooftops every night, well the Red Hood has. It seems that with the gain of this guardian angel, many have ventured to your shop more and more as they feel safer with the Red Hood watching over this part of Gotham. “IT LOOKS AMAZING! But..why aren’t you using magic?”
“Because I like everything done by my hand.” You answer plainly going back to pinning the dress. The base of it was done with a satin white train. Flowers and lace were scattered about the border of the gown.
“It’s far from done, but I need to make sure it fits you right.” Barbra nodded excitedly and took the dress into the changing room. Jason stood next to you, surprisingly the silence was not uncomfortable…for you at least. You spoke first.
“The Red Hood?” Jason chuckled.
“I needed something to do.” You hummed and finally looked at him. His eyes were brighter and clear. And OH MY he was huge! I mean he was big compared to anyone before but he put on a ton of muscle. “You seem good and the shop has been busier.” You smile slightly.
“So you stalking me isn’t just a nightly activity?” You ask, thinking he was going to blush but he didn’t, but he did smirk. “Gotta make sure you don’t come crashing into the cave again. Though I have no problem carrying you like a princess if you need me to.” Jason’s smile widened as you blushed, not expecting him to be so…cocky.
“Well?” You both turned to see Barbra in the dress you made. You looked over the dress, of course it looked beautiful on her but something was missing. THE VEIL! You turned to pick up a manikin head that was holding the veil you made. You brought it to Barbra and placed it on her head. You then pinned some places that you wanted to fix, not noticing how intensely Jason was watching you until you heard. “Jason she’s not gonna catch fire if you blink.” Barbra snickered. You didn’t look back at Jason, only shook your head. “There. Carefully take off the dress and I’ll make the adjustments for you.” Barbra nodded and went back into the dressing room.
“You made that?” Jason asked.
“I don’t get good business cause I’m pretty.” You retort, making Jason laugh.
“Fair enough.” Jason said. “Ouch!” You turned back to Jason who was holding his hand, he then pulled out a pin. “Fuck.” He hissed. “Note to self, don’t touch any projects that are half done.” You made your way over to him and held his hand in yours. A nettle prick was leaking blood, you looked up at him to ask for permission. “Go ahead.” He whispered. With that, your fingers started to glow and Jason’s skin started to pull itself back together. “Thought you were supposed to be a deadly witch.” His voice was low, just enjoying being close to you.
“I am.” You answer. “So don’t go around announcing I healed you. I’ll lose my reputation for being ruthless.”
“Should I leave you two alone?” Your head snapped to Barbra who was holding the dress and smiling widely. You let go of Jason’s hand and took the dress from Barbra.
“I’ll finish the alterations then send it to you.” You say setting up the dress to start the altercations.
“Thank you Y/N. Truly, it’s so magical.” You laugh.
“I’m glad you like it.” Barbra then jumped on you, giving you a big hug. “Oh.” You say hugging her back. She let go and handed you an invitation.
“Please come. You are hand making my dress. Please.” You smile and accept the invitation.
“Of course.” You say, not really wanting to come to a social event. On this side of town they don’t care that you’re a witch if you hide the horns but the socialites of Gotham don’t like you at all. Thinking you are in service to the devil. With that Jason and Barbra left the shop leaving you to get back to the dress.
Finally, the wedding was upon us. You ended up making Dick, Jason, and Tim custom suits. During that time, Jason made sure to come to every appointment even ones that weren’t his. You two had been patching things over, him flirting with you every chance he gets and your witty responses always making him want to mess with you more. But now, you want to run and hide. The people in the room with you started pointed and whispered about you. You can hear them.
“It’s her.” “The one with the horns? I don’t think so, I don’t see them.” You just wanted to say congratulations to Tim and Barbra then leave. You felt like you were crawling in your skin.
“She’s pretty though…probably how she seduces her victims.” Your heart felt like it was shaking your body.  Trying to calm yourself down you went to look for a drink when you almost ran into Jason. “Oh! My gosh, I am so-” You started. When he handed you a drink.
“Gin?” You laughed out a breath and took the drink thanking him.
“That man really shouldn’t bother with a creature like that.” You took a sip trying to ignore it.
“Say that again and see what happens.” Jason sneers. The man and women stutter excuses trying to make it seem they weren’t talking about you. “Piss off.” And they did. Jason looked back to you and offered his arm. You raised an eyebrow. “What? This is the only time I’ll be polite like this. Take advantage of it.” You took his arm and he led you to the rest of the Wayne Family. When Barbra saw you, her and Tim almost tackled you, thanking you over and over again for the clothes you made. “It was nothing really.” You try to brush off but of course they didn’t let you.
“We also told all the press that it was here where we got our wedding attire from.” Barbra said excitedly. “You might need to hire more help.” You shook your head.
“I’m magic, remember?” Barbra’s brow furrowed.
“But you said…oh.” She breathed. “The ones you do yourself…you do for people that mean a lot to you.” You nod and see Dick start to tear up.
“Don’t make it weird Dick.” You say finishing your drink. Jason takes it and places it on the bar. Bruce then made his way over to you guys.
“Tim, Barbra? Congratulations. Y/N, a word?” He asks, offering his arm. You nod and take it. Once you were far enough away from the group Bruce spoke.
“I must apologize for stealing your book a year a ago.” You smile and look back at Jason, who of course was looking back at you. Making sure you were alright. “I’m glad you did.” You answer. Bruce nods and gestures to Jason to take you back. He’s by your side in seconds and offers his hand. “Dance with me?” You smile.
“Thought you’d never ask.”
By the end of the night, you and Jason had run off into the many gardens of the Manor where the wedding was held.  You took off your heels as you both walked and talked for hours. Jason notices how the plants would perk up more when you pass, how dead leaves came back to life and how wounded trees repaired themselves. A deadly witch? You couldn’t be. Not to him.
“You can wear your horns ya know.” He said. You chuckle and show them. “I like them.” Jason says, touching them fondly.
“I noticed.” You say. “You're the first to not be uncomfortable with them.”  Jason hummed.
“I’m never uncomfortable with you. Just..stupid sometimes.”
“So am I.” You whisper looking at the flowers. Jason’s hand came on your cheek. He turned your head back to face him. He takes both hands to the side of your face and kisses you. You kiss back and laugh as you pull away.
“What?” Jason asks, smiling.
“You kissed me underneath the moonlight in the rose garden. Can you be any more sappy?” Jason laughed then dipped you, making you gasp.
“Don’t challenge me.” With that he went in for another kiss.

Birthday Kiss
Tumblr media
A cute & fluffy friends to lovers story for Harry's birthday! lot's of tension brewing. Literally the feeling of when you're both too shy to make ✨the move✨. Sorry for any mistakes, I literally just threw this together!
Warnings: None? Some steamy kissing/making out, but no smut-smut.
WC: 4.6K words
It was just after midnight and the festivities hadn’t been luxe or extravagant like many people would have probably imagined for a star of his caliber, it had just been a small little thing organized by Jeff at a family friend’s Palm Springs home. But Harry really preferred it that way. When he was around his people he liked to feel a part of the bunch, not like the star of the show, as he normally was. It was interesting really because almost everyone at this little post-show celebration worked for him - not necessarily as his subordinates, but as the team who helped him seemingly conquer the world. And as a friend of his for several years now, Y/N thought it was quite beautiful that once he left the venue and the crowd was gone, the lights turned down and the ground was littered with glitter and endless stray feathers he wasn’t Harry Styles, world-famous pop star anymore, he was just plain old, Harry. His management and production team weren’t in work-mode anymore, they were just his friends, like she was and they loved him, like she did.
“Thank you guys, so much.” He smiled, all dimply and bashful, head bowed in gratitude but his eyes were scanning the faces of the roughly 15 people who were with him and had just finished singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him. There was still a very soft cloud of smoke before him from the candles he had just blown out on the small cake in his hands. He set it down as a few of his bandmates, friends, and loved ones started to line up to give him a hug and offer their well wishes and she would wait her turn patiently to do the same, saving herself for last because it had been a while since they had even been in the same room.
Finally, Y/N was up next and Harry’s smile went a bit bigger for her. Harry always told her that she was his favorite, which she loved to hear because he was her favorite too. And as she approached him he opened his arms wide for her to fit herself against his chest and hug him tight as she pressed a kiss to his jaw, his cheek was a tad out of reach for her.
“Mmmm….” She hummed into their embrace, “Happy birthday, H.” She congratulated him as their faces pressed together while they hugged tight.
“Thank you, love. Thank you so much for coming out, I know you’re swamped.” He said lowly.
“Of course! I’m just sorry I won’t be able to make it tomorrow. Or well, tonight technically.” She said as they pulled away and looked into each other’s eyes. Her hands had slid down to his biceps and his were settled at the middle of her back.
“You’re here tonight! I’m just happy you were able to make it to one of the shows.” He said and she smiled at him.
“I am too, thank you for having me. You were amazing, as always…” she complimented and his cheeks went all pink as he smiled at the ground before their eyes met again.
“Really, thank you so much.” He said and she just hugged him again which he easily gave in to. After a moment of catching up they were joined by Shellie, Jeff’s mom, who started chatting with them both and then they scattered as he talked with others and she caught up with some mutual friends who she also hadn’t seen in a bit. But soon it was nearing 1am and Y/N had to go, she had a several hour drive back to LA and day full of depositions later on in the day.
She had started a new job at a rather prestigious law firm back in October and had been unusually busy with case prepping and depositions and paperwork and court appearances and just life during his LA residency and she hadn’t been able to make any of his shows in LA. So when he informed her about the Palm Springs additions in early December she made sure to request the day off to make it to one of them, it unfortunately couldn’t be the one on the actual day of his birthday but it was close enough.
“Well, I ought to hit the road…” Y/N said to Jeff who she had been chatting with for the last few minutes.
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay and head out in the morning?” He asked and she sighed.
“Can’t, I’ve got a deposition at 9:30 tomorrow…” she sighed and he grimaced.
“Oh man, I’m sorry.” He said and she shrugged.
“It is what it is…” she sighed through a chuckle and he chuckled along with her before hugging her.
She then proceeded to say her farewells to the people she knew from the group including Glenn and Jeff’s parent’s, and Harry’s mom too and politely hugged those who she had met for the first time tonight. Then she made her way over towards Harry, he was with Pauli, Ny, and Kris Jenner, of all people in the world, who animatedly told them some story that had the three of them in absolute stitches. Harry was quite literally clutching at his stomach as he gasped for air through his laughter. He was so beautiful when he laughed, it made her heart flip in funky ways and if she could she would watch this moment in replay. As soon as Harry saw her he reached his hand out to her despite his laughter and she grabbed it, allowing him to pull her over. It sent an electric current through her body, not knowing that touching her had the exact same effect on him.
“Oh my god, that was the wildest thing I’ve ever heard.” He said through bated breathing as he just pulled Y/N close.
“We were wild back in the day, just ask your mom.” Kris laughed to Harry and he shook his head.
“I don’t think I want to know about her adventures.” He laughed, inhaling deeply as he recovered then turned to Y/N, “This is Kris, by the way, I don’t think you’ve met?” He asked and Y/N shook her head as she looked from Harry to Kris.
“Not yet, I’m Y/N, nice to meet you.” She said extending a hand and Kris pulled her in for a hug.
“We’re huggers here, Y/N. It’s lovely to meet you.” She said kindly as Y/N smiled at her as they pulled apart.
“Thank you. You too.” Y/N reciprocated her nicety with a sincere smile.
“Alright, well it was nice to chat with you all, but I’m going to go back to my crowd.” She said to them all as she came closer to Harry, “Happy birthday, sweetheart. You were fantastic out there.” She praised as they hugged, “I’m so proud of you.” She sprinkled in as they kissed cheeks and soon she was heading off.
“She’s the best.” Pauli chuckled and Harry grinned wide and nodded in agreement.
“Literally, never a dull moment with her around.” He assured as he draped his arm over Y/N’s shoulder, “Should we indulge in another slice of cake? We can share.” He said to her and she pouted a bit.
“It’d love to, but it’s time for me to retire.” She said and he frowned.
“At this hour? Gonna drive all the way now?” He asked in slight concern.
“Have to. I have to be at a deposition at 9:30.” She said to the group with an exasperated look and both Pauli and Ny grimaced in the same manner as Jeff had when she told him.
“I’m sorry.” Ny said.
“It’s work.” She shrugged, “Can’t live with it, can’t live without it.”
“Maybe you should just join the Love Band.” Pauli smiled and Y/N cackled.
“If you want to continue having successful tours, maybe not!” She joked.
“We don’t have to mic you…” He said and she giggled as they all chuckled.
“It was nice to see everyone though. You guys sounded great!” She said as Harry let her go so that she could hug his bandmates goodbye, “Bye-bye, birthday boy.” She said coming up to him with open arms and he hugged her, swaying them a few times, “Oh! That reminds me, I got you something! I’ll go get it real quick!” She said breaking their hug and he shook his head.
“It’s alright, I’ll walk you out.” He said.
“Oh no, it’s OK. I had to park down the street and-”
“More reason to not let you go alone. There’s coyotes out there.”
“It’s California, there’s coyotes everywhere.” She giggled.
“Whatever, I’ll be back in a few.” He said to Pauli and Ny-oh, “Guy’s I’m gonna walk Y/N to her car, I’ll be back in a bit!” He announced over the conversations happening and the group all called out farewells as she smiled and waved goodbye to everyone before they walked off towards the entrance of the house.
“Deposition at 9:30, huh?”
“Yeah…it’s a wrongful termination case…I don’t think our client was wrongfully terminated but whatever.” She said and he chuckled as they reached the door and made their way outside. The wind was blowing hard, making the night feel colder than it probably was as so he linked arms with her as they made their way out the door.
Harry wished she didn’t have to go tonight, with his work commitments they didn’t get to see each other all that much, but now that she had this crazy job as a defense attorney she was busy all the time and it made it even harder for them to hang out like they often did when he was in town. Harry had liked Y/N for a year or so now and on multiple occasions he had intended to tell her but would end up flaking out, he wasn’t sure if she liked him too or what? He had a hard time reading her and he didn’t want to risk ruining anything in their friendship.
“What’d they do?” He asked as they walked to the gate around around the property.
“Here’s the context, we deposed the other person involved a few days ago!” She said with excitement, “So he had tried to ask one of his co-workers out-”
“It had to be a ‘he’…” he interrupted and she giggled and nodded, “Makes us al look bad…” he mumbled and she giggled.
“Oh yeah he does! Well, the girl said no and he was insistent; like he would send her flowers and buy her things, that type of situation. So she’s creeped out and decided to file a harassment complaint with HR.” She explained as they made their way through the gate, “So they call him in and give him a warning, advise him to leave her alone and he get’s pissed that she involved HR. So he then has to do a sexual harassment training program and professionalism workshops, which he never went to, so again, HR sends him a notice. All the while, he continues to pursue the girl, telling her that the least she could do is go out with him because she ratted him out to HR.” She said and he scoffed, “I know. I would drop him if I could…so anyway, long-story-short, she blows him off again and he get’s so angry that he puts an air tag on her car and shows up at her house!”
“What the fuck?” Harry gasped.
“I know! Total nut job… so she calls the police because she feels unsafe and she starts an inquiry at work to see how he got a hold of that information as it’s not made public and as they dig through things they find out about the air tag while reviewing security footage and fire him on the spot. He’s arguing that company policy says 3 warnings and he only got 2 warnings and well, you know how those people are.” She said and he frowned as they continue walking.
“God…and you’re working the case?”
“Assisting. I don’t get to do cases alone yet.” She said quickly, “I wonder what he’s gonna say in his deposition tomorrow, I’m curious.” She said and he hummed.
“Well, just be careful, he’s clearly not well and I don’t know what I would do if he fixated on you and stalked you too.” He said shaking his head.
“After doing some digging on him I think I’ll be fine, I’m not his type.” She said and he hummed.
“Well still. You live alone and there’s a lot of crazies out there.”
“I am, H.” She said and he sighed.
“Better be.” He said lowly and she smiled at his concern.
“This is me.” She said as they stopped beside her sedan and she let go of his arm and unlocked her car, “Thank you again, for inviting me. I had a lot of fun.” She assured with a smile and he smiled as well.
“Thank you for driving all the way out here for me. I know it’s a long way and we didn’t even really get to spend time together or-”
“I’m just really happy I got to see you.” She said, “I missed you.” She admitted.
“I missed you too. And I know I haven’t been a great friend, I’ve been so busy and haven’t even reached out to catch up or talk and you came all this way for this like 5 minute conversation and I just feel bad.” He said and she shook her head.
“Oh my god, H… I understand and I mean, relationships are a two way street, H. I haven’t done that either, I’ve been so busy that I’ve neglected a lot of people the last few months and I didn’t want that to continue into this year.” She explained, “I don’t care about the drive or even if I didn’t get one-on-one time with you today, I just wanted to be here for you.” She said simply, “And I promise that I will do better from here on out. You matter to me and our friendship matters to me, so of course I’m going to come through for you. Always.” She promised and he bit his lip and nodded.
“Thank you, I’ll do better too. You mean so much to me too, like you don’t even know.” He said to her and she smiled softly. The words were trying to claw their way out of his mouth but he was swallowing them down; she had said that their friendship mattered to her and that was enough to dissuade him from telling her how he felt.
“Thank you. I love you so much.” She said opening up her arms and he smiled as he hugged her tight.
“I love you too.” He responded before they let go.
“Oh, before I forget!” She said opening up the passenger door and he moved aside to let her dip down into the car, “Here is your present. I’m sorry, I didn’t have time to wrap or bag it.” She said extending a book out to him.
“You didn’t have to get me anything…” he assured as he took it from her timidly.
“It’s nothing, H. It’s used by me so ummm there are some highlights and things in there, but don’t mind them. I just think you’ll really like it.” She explained and he smiled as he looked over the cover, “Daring Greatly” is what it was called, “You know that I’m not super into the whole self-help book thing, but I read this one over the holidays and holy shit…it gave me a lot to think about and I think you’re really going to like it.” She smiled as he flipped it over and read the back of it to get an idea of what it could be about and he smiled as he continued reading through it. There were a lot of aspects about how his life went that were in direct conflict with how he wished it could be and it was hard for him sometimes to feel like there were eyes on him all the time, even in private. It made it hard for him to open up with people that mattered a lot to him sometimes and he was still working hard on being able to overcome that.
“Thank you so much.” He smiled up at her and she nodded as she shut the passenger door.
“Yeah, no worries.” She assured with a friendly smile as he set the book on the roof of the car and reached for her again. They hugged each other tight again and just when he was dreading the thought that she was about to let go, he felt her relax into his hold as the wind whipped around them in the dark street. He smiled and squeezed her a bit harder. Trying to remember everything about this moment. He wished he could be more brave…maybe he wouldn’t tell her what he was feeling in his heart for her, but he would be honest about one thing.
“I don’t want you to go.” He confessed, “Barely got any time with you.” He sighed sadly. His words weighed heavily on her heart, she felt that way too and just thinking about driving away and seeing his reflection grow smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror made her want to cry. She bit her lip and moved her head out of his neck and glanced up to him as he glanced down. Their eyes were filled with sadness as they look at each other.
“I wish I didn’t have to go.” She said and he sighed.
“It’s not fair.” He said sadly and she nodded.
“I know.” She sniffled as she brought a hand up to his jaw and held the side of his face. She watched with a thumping heart as his eyes scanned down her face and landed on her lips before he just glanced up to the sky for a second before he pulled her closer.
“Just hold me for a little bit.” He said and she wrapped her arms around him again and rested her head into the crook of his neck as he rested his chin over her head. She could heart his heart thumping just as hard as hers was and as much as they were relaxed in each other’s hold it was still pounding hard and it dawned on her that just maybe he felt the same way as she did. She was scared to say anything though and so they just held each other in the cold night for who knows how long until his phone rang in his hoodie’s pocket and he groaned as he reached inside for it seeing it was his mom.
“Hi.” He said as he brought it up to his ear, his left hand still secured around her waist, keeping her close, so she didn’t move away, “Sorry, didn’t mean to worry you guys, I’m still out here with Y/N.” He explained, she could feel the vibrations of his low and soothing voice through his throat and chest, “It’s been a long while so we were just making up for lost time, and got chatting.” He said, “-yeah, I know it’s late. I’ll be in soon.” He assured, “Alright, bye.” He finished and hung up before sliding the phone in his pocket, “She said bye again and that I need to let you go home.” He said sadly, but he still wore a smile. “We’ve been out here for twenty minutes apparently. Sorry, I didn’t mean to keep you.” He sighed and she shook her head.
“S’alright. It was lovely while it lasted.” She said and he smiled.
“Just one more minute?” He asked and she nodded and held him close again, swallowing the lump in her throat.
“Yeah, just a little bit more.” She agreed as they started to sway just a little and his hands started sliding down to her hips.
“You look pretty today.” He said and she smiled as she pulled back a bit and laid her hands flat on his chest as she glanced up at him.
“Thanks, H. You look good too, I like when your hair’s like this.” She said and he smiled, “I mean, it looks good when it’s a little longer too, but this looks really good.” She compliment as she reached up and ruffled the top of it a bit and he chuckled.
“Thanks, love.” He hummed bashfully as her hand traveled down his face and her thumb stroked along his jaw, feeling a little more confident.
“This little facial hair action you’ve got going on is also nice.” She said as her thumb trailed towards his mouth and before she could go to the slight mustache growing over his lips he suddenly turned and opened his mouth and playfully snapped a bite at her thumb which gave her a fright as she quickly pulled her hand away, but eventually this ended in a laugh.
“God, stop! You scared me.” She huffed as she very lightly slapped at his chest and he chuckled. But he had to stop her, there was no way that she could feel around his mouth and it not end in him attempting to kiss her and then he’d ruin everything. He had an unreadable look in his eyes which made her frown a bit. “You alright?” She asked and he quickly snapped out of it and nodded.
“Yeah, sorry. Zoned out for a second.” He shook his head and she hummed.
“OK, well I really should go now.” She said and he nodded.
“Yeah.” He agreed, but didn’t really loosen the grip of his arms around her waist as their eyes met again and then his flickered down to her lips quickly but again, made no move and she decided that she was just going to do it.
She tiptoed with a racing heart and butterflies in her stomach. Harry’s entire body was covered in goosebumps as her hands slid up his chest as she tiptoed, their faces now much closer together than before and his heart skipped a beat as her eyes glanced down to his lips and then back up to his eyes as she leaned in closer. He swallowed the nervous lump forming in his throat as the tension between them came to an all-time high. And in mere moments their noses were barely brushing as her hands looped around his neck and then their eyes fluttered closed as she closed the gap as her lips melded against his own tenderly. He couldn’t believe it, the air completely left his lungs and his brain felt like it exploded as his hands squeezed around her hips before he related released them and instead grabbed her face gently as their lips moved together in perfect t sync. The soft little smacks of their kisses were sending him into another plain of reality. As their lips slotted together he felt on top of the world, it wasn’t hard for their kiss to gain a little more traction and deepen as she very lightly sucked on his bottom lip. It just about made his knees give beneath him. This awakened something in him and he did it back to her, he heard her sigh with a little hint of a whimper and he proceeded to let his tongue just barely swipe at her swollen bottom lip and when she parted her mouth just a bit more he used a little more of it. This kiss made her feel like fireworks were bursting inside of her and it was making her breathless; she never wanted to stop, but she needed to go. She really had to now. Harry hummed in slight protest as her hands started to slide back down to his chest.
“No.” He muttered against her mouth and she smiled which caused the kiss to naturally end and he leaned his forehead onto hers, “Been dying to kiss you for ages.” He admitted before leaning back in and she allowed it as he pecked her lips a few more times, her entire body was buzzing now.
“I was too, but I really have to get home, H. I’m sorry.” She pouted and he kissed at her pout.
“I know. Just being selfish.” He muttered and she pecked his lips this time as he let go of her face and settled his hands back on her waist as he pouted now.
“Don’t pout, it’s making me feel bad.” She whined, “Already gonna cry the whole way home.” She sniffled, already feeling her eyes welling up.
“Nooo…” he frowned, “Why are you gonna cry?” He asked as he kissed the tip of her nose.
“Because it’s not fair. Like, who knows when we’re gonna get to see each other again.” She said sadly and he sighed.
“I know…” he said solemnly before he hugged her close and she rested into his chest, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.” She assured, but he still felt like it was. He was the one leaving the country, not her.
“I’ve still got to perform at the Grammy’s next Sunday so I’m gonna be in town, I’ve got rehearsals during the week and I will make time to come see you.” He said.
“I don’t want to add more stuff to your schedule, H.”
“You’re not, I want to see you before I go on Sunday.” He reassured her.
“Where are you going on Sunday?”
“Back to London. M’performing at the BRIT awards and then just resting a few weeks before I head to Australia for the next leg of the tour.” He sighed and she hummed in understanding.
“S’gonna be a while until next time, huh?” She asked and he nodded sadly.
“Yeah, but you know that this is kind of home away from home.” He said with a small smile, “And well…anywhere you are, that’s where I want to be too. All the time if I could.” He confessed earnestly and she just surged forward and pressed their lips together again in a searing and wonderful kiss, but before she could be sucked back in to another make-out session she parted their lips.
“OK, I really need to go now.” She said and he nodded.
“Yeah, for real this time.” He giggled and they hugged quickly before she pecked his lips just one last time.
“Happy birthday, H.” She spoke against his kiss-swollen lips.
“Thanks, love. I’ll see you soon.” He said and she nodded.
“See you soon.” She whispered before they parted ways and he gave her one last kiss before helping her into her car and waving her off into the night. As she glanced back at him through the rearview mirror her eyes started welling up, as she knew they would. But then her phone dinged and she glanced at it when she came to a stop sign.
Harry:
No crying. Unless it’s happy tears, OK? Text when you get home, please 💕
She giggled all while sniffling as she typed out her response to him
Y/N:
Too late! 😭And I will. Night 💕
With that she went on her way and yes, there were tears but despite the challenges she knew would come, she was confident that everything was going to be just fine.

Happy birthday, Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper!
Tumblr media
I know in the series, we only had one chance to see how Sheldon celebrates his birthday (cause obviously he doesn't) but I always wonder now that he already had a family of his own, does he still celebrate it? If so, then how?
Does he also celebrates the birthday of their children?
But anyways, in my country it is already the 26th of February so this blog is dedicated to the birthday of our Shelly 🥳
PS: Happy Birthday to Missy Cooper as well 🫶

Phoenix and Bob were inseparable, and though you loved the two of them together and enjoyed spending time with them, you were jealous every time Natasha looked at Bob.
It wasn’t that you didn’t like Bob, you really did, he was kind, gentle and caring.
But you had a crush on Phoenix.
Ever since you met and started working together you had fallen for her gradually, so much so that you were in awe of her every time she entered the room.
While you were crushing on her so much that it bordered on love, you sadly didn’t spend much time with her alone.
When you were in the locker room, the other female aviator, Halo, was almost always there.
Outside of work Phoenix spent a lot of time with Bob for team building and because he was a great guy, but it meant that you couldn’t talk to her about how you were feeling.
Sometimes you really wanted to be alone with her and other times you didn’t, being scared of blurting out your feelings, embarrassing yourself or offending her in any way.
It was silly, of course, but you liked her too much to be able to live with yourself should she reject you.
That was the reason why you didn’t ask her to go out with you alone, even though you frequently met up with her and Bob.
You even had a group chat for just the three of you, to be able to communicate better.
You had decided to go out for dinner together like almost every Saturday night, nothing fancy but you all loved doing it.
While others preferred going to parties or bars the three of you liked to dedicate an evening to take it easy, to talk, eat and drink in peace, much in contrast to the hectic and dangerous job you shared.
Both Phoenix and you were already at the location when you received a text from Bob.
You were happy to be alone with her for a little while as you waited for your friend, but Bob’s message gave a quick start to your heart rate.
I’m sorry, I can’t make it today. Something came up :(
I hope you have a good time without me - Bob
When you finished reading the text your hand that was holding your phone shook a little and you glanced at Phoenix, who was sitting in front of you.
As soon as she saw you looking at her she sent you a gentle smile, which you returned a little anxiously before dropping your eyes to your phone.
You didn’t even notice that you were fiddling with it, turning it over and over again until you felt gentle hands close over yours.
When you looked back up you saw Natasha smiling at you again, as if she wanted to give you confidence.
She didn’t pull her hands away as her eyes bore into yours, searching them for something you didn’t know.
“Are you okay?” she asked you as you felt one of her thumbs graze the hand it was resting on carefully.
You were entirely lost in her eyes but you managed to nod, your mouth opening slightly at the way she was looking at you.
“I’ve been wanting to talk to you alone about something for a while now, but it was never the right time,” Nat went on to say.
Your eyes followed her tongue as she ran it over her lips, wetting them and capturing even more of your attention, if that was possible.
She seemed nervous as well but she didn’t let that deter her from saying what she had on her mind.
She tried to gain a little more confidence as she gripped your hands tighter.
“I wanted to say that-“ she began but she was interrupted by an enthusiastic sounding male voice.
“Hi, my name is Larry, and I’ll be your waiter this evening. What can I get you?” the insensitive waiter interrupted the intimate atmosphere you had created, making both you and Phoenix pull away and face him.
You would have liked to scream at Larry to leave but instead you ordered something to drink, and Phoenix did the same.
When you looked back up at Phoenix she was looking at the hands she had clasped at her side of the table and you reached out towards her.
She was thankful for your support as her face brightened up in a smile at your gesture.
“I think I’ve been in love with you for as long as I’ve known you,” she said in a very low voice, but it was full of honesty.
Her confession took your breath away and your eyelids fluttered as you looked up at her.
It was something you had longed to hear and you were so relieved that you felt like you were floating.
You were so happy that you forgot to answer but you must have looked ecstatic, because Nat laughed as she intertwined your fingers.
The sound was music to your ears and you felt a few tears rise up in your eyes as a smile spread over your face.
“You don’t know how happy I am to hear that,” you answered her.
Over the course of your dinner you talked about anything and everything and barely let go of the other’s hand.
When you got up to leave the restaurant Natasha was immediately by your side, lacing your fingers once again with hers.
It was such a relaxing but thrilling feeling to have her close by your side, and you were so proud to be with her.
You had both been hesitant to start a relationship in fear of destroying your friendship and your relationship as coworkers, but you had been entirely sure of what you were doing the moment Nat had confessed her feelings.
You left your car in the parking lot as your new girlfriend drove you home, kissing you good night but staying overnight in the end.
Bob was a great wingman, and you were incredibly grateful for the tiny push he had given you to finally achieve what you had dreamed of.
