Man every time I think of .Hack//Sign the more I think how incredible it is??

Like yeah sword art online has people stuck in the internet world. I haven’t watched it but I know it has some visual “humor” where it shows one person getting trapped there whose avatar was a girl and they were really a horny old man. Told to me in defense of how it’s more than just an isekai fantasy thing like it seems. And I’m not sure how later .hack properties were, if it leaned away from the real world more later on.

BUT LIKE?? It was such a good story, that was a drama more than a fantasy, and so of it’s time. Writer’s exploring how the internet was starting to create new kinds of relationships. Was becoming a place where people had an even more overt outward facing persona compared to their interior life than ever before. People’s real selves not a joke but instead showing how real they were as people, and how the avatar revealed their needs and desires in what fantasy they chose to play out. The mods being people lacking power or freedom, the hacker player being a kid who just wanted to mess around, the main character who was just looking for peace and control over themselves when the real world only offered abuse! Like watching again as an adult shows so much that this show wanted to tell a drama, a story about people as opposed to a fantasy. The world was just a way to get people from opposite walks of life to interact and the virus was so secondary to them in reality, even though we saw their avatars more often!

Also considering the ending I think we could also argue a point about homosexuality and the closet.

saw a really fun show tonight! got home took pee and became an ex-member of the never passed out club

#it's oversharing time on tumblr bc I'm a little freaked and have never fainted before haha #we got home and I just suddenly got a lot of pelvic discomfort and nausea like food poisoning #at some point I was thinking oh better go tell my mum in case she needs the bathroom/wondering why I've been up there a while #hey listen don't come upstairs I'm gonna poop massively #and apparently I did actually do that. but I don't remember because the next thing I saw was her looking over me on the floor downstairs #so I still feel like I dreamt that conversation and also the first few things said to me waking up #which is probably normal for passing out right.#really surreal and not a fun thing to happen. fortunately only happened for a few seconds but felt like I was out longer #I'm sure experienced faintees are looking at this as no big deal but it kinda shook me ngl #I'm better so I think I'm just dehydrated (I do drink through the day. maybe it's still not enough as it should be tho?)#but apparently I went grey and blue lipped which is just scary for everyone! Random hot take i guess but i think at some point between legacy and beyond eddsworld stopped being a personal project and instead turned into a brand and that absolutely sucks but it's also unavoidable in capitalism. You can't just make art for yourself and your friends because it's fun anymore, at some point ya gotta make a real tangible profit. And the profit has to keep growing. So of course, eventually you bring out the youtooz of the most popular character even though he's not in the show anymore

#There's a lot to be said about ew and at what point it stopped being personal #and at which point it turned into characters going through planned out scenarios #even though it started out as online friends irl wanting cool things to happen because they were cool #Or actually there isn't because it i kind of a personal thing for the people involved in running the show and their choice #But it is strange to behold #I think it's pretty foolish to blame matt h for wanting eddsworld to make money because that's capitalism that's what it has to do now #just look at digital circus rolling out merch before there was even a first episode #Or monkey wrench struggling between the artistry and the monetary value of their show (they are Not making a lot of money rn (afaik)#Online cartoons HAVE to make money now or else they just won't run #It's a shift in the entire economy online #I think it's worth pointing out that trying to say this respects edd g's death is a bit scummy but I don't think matt's doing that anymore #But it's also a VERY good point that taking this much money from a fanbase you're mocking a lot in the eddisodes sucks #It's almost like this whole situation consists of multitudes and perhaps even nuances #Anyways capitalism bad
