good evening i have been allowed to Spin(tm) and that should never happen so here we go
Modern-ish au
Hancock is a weeb, yes, but he's a weeb with capital, business sense, and contacts, and thus he runs one of the most respectful little Doman goods shops you can find outside of Little Doma. Yes he's spent many a late night making sure his shit is authentic, yes he has to charge pretty big markups to barely make ends meet, yes his customers are mostly shitty students or the anime-obsessed, yes sometimes he wonders if this is even worth it or if he should just go back to trading stocks in Ul'dah.
But also the old Doman ladies who can't make the half-hour each way trip to Little Doma every week are absolutely charmed that he, an ijin, speaks perfect Doman, and he carries all the snacks they like, and he always wants to hear about their grandchildren or about the recent drama from mahjong night, and he always manages to get their festival foods and ingredients in on time (even if he has to pull extra hours and every time his suppliers cut it a little close). He's learning the Steppe tongue, slowly, from the Xaela pair that come in ever wednesday to make sure their children remember the taste of home, and he's finally figured out how to greet the odd veena in the language of the Skatay (although the finer sounds of Golmorian still escape him).
Even if it means he lives in a tiny little flat, even if it means near-sleepless nights spent looking for spare gil in the books to pay rent and pinching his pursestrings on his own groceries, this place gives him something Ul'dah never did:
a community.
A community that just so happens to include one Ash'a Amari.
Ash'a is a miqote, a Bozjan expat who spent his twenties and early thirties running refugees past Imperial lines to ships waiting to take them away to the relative safety of Eorzea, and Eorzean supplies to Bozjan resistance fighters on the front lines, until a single missed iud ended that career (and nearly ended his life).
Nowadays he's wheelchair-bound, working as a tattoo artist out of the tiny spot in the mall bc despite yugiri putting in a good word for him that's about the most the Thieves' Guild is willing to shell out for him. And that's alright. His legs might not work, but his hands are as steady as ever, and if the client is willing he hires some of the local kids to do art for him, and he does all of the thieves' ink for free, and if there's a little literal magic to his work, well. He's never had any complaints.
(and maybe, every now and then, once the lights are out and the shutters are closed, one of the thieves will slip in through the back door, and the bed where customers lay in the daytime will become an impromptu operating table, and Ash'a steady hands will save lives once again, and in the morning there will be oddly gruff faces cleaning The Waking Sands from top to bottom, but a bit of gil changes hands and no one questions a thing)
And the tension of the story doesn't come from the fact that the Thieves' Guild is currently having a problem with Imperial Assassins (not like Ash'a can do anything about it, really), or even that every time the store dips into the red Hancock nearly has a fucking heart attack trying to figure out how to make ends meet.
Nah, the plot comes from where it absolutely should in these kinds of stories:
nosey Doman grandmamas.
bc dearest Hinata, bless her heart, has been on Hancocks case for so. long. now. About how "having a lady around would make things so much easier on you, wouldn't it?" Extolling the virtues of her own (single) daughters, her friends' (single) daughters, the (single) daughters she knows adjacently from Little Doma. And Hancock, bless his heart, doesn't have it in him to tell this well-meaning woman that he is very, very gay.
And thankfully! He doesn't have to! bc Ash'a pops his head into the store one day around noon bc "the microwave in my back room broke and there's no way im eating these noodles cold, can I please use yours", and Hancock accepts eagerly bc he will take literally any out from yet another matchmaking session, and suddenly Hinata is connecting dots (she's not connecting shit).
The next time mahjong night comes around, she insists that Hancock should bring that "nice miqote lad from next door he's so fond of"
And it spins(tm) from there.

could be the distance made this love visible
ffxivwrite2023 #01: envoy a messenger or representative.
Lunya & Hancock on the topic of Tsuna/Hancock. Post-Shadowbringers, pre-5.3. 969wc. ⮞ Hancock Fitzgerald does things subtly. Courting Tsuna Mizuhiki while she's across the star is one of those things. Unfortunately for him, Lunya Lanya is anything but subtle.
Days at the Ruby Bazaar offices were typically full of paperwork and meetings—sometimes both at once if Hancock wasn't careful—and while ultimately these were things he held no ire with and even enjoyed the monotony of, he cherished the few breaks that came between managing the Kugane branch of the East Aldenard Trading Company.
The port city ever smelled of salt and opportunity and as he settled onto his favourite sofa, a fresh pot of ink and a scroll at the ready on the table before him, a cooling zephyr wafted through the open window overlooking the zen garden out back along with the brisk sunlight of an early autumn afternoon in beautiful Hingashi. There was an hour before his next meeting with a merchant coming back from Bukyo and he intended to make good use of it, and with a setting so lovely and inspiring, words like flowers bloomed easily at the forefront of his mind.
At least, they did until his secretary knocked thrice on the door and announced a surprise visitor.
Hancock returned his rose spectacles to his nose with a half-hearted grimace and a sigh caught in the back of his throat. He loved his work, truly, but unannounced guests usually came with complaints and foolish attempts to get his (and therefore Lord Lolorito's) attention with poor plans and poorer deals.
"A messenger for you, sir," his secretary said as he entered the room, and when he stepped to the side it was to reveal a very familiar Lalafellin woman in lavender and starlight.
Lunya Lanya smiled at Hancock, pointed canines bared like fangs as she daintily curtseyed with a flutter of her skirts, the move accompanied by the chime of miniature bells. "Long time no see, my friend," cooed the girl, and as Hancock rose to greet her she pulled an envelope from behind her back holding it aloft between her thumb and index finger. He froze.
"Miss Lunya!" he managed to say jovially, fully aware he was trapped halfway between sitting and standing and looked like a fool, gaze fixated on that envelope and its ruby red wax seal. "I believe acting as mailmoogle is well below your paygrade."
"Most things are," the woman hummed as she sauntered forward and stopped short of the sitting table, keeping his prize just out of reach. Not that he'd reach out and grab it, of course. He wasn't desperate. "Now, what are you playing at, Fitzgerald?"
Ah. There was the catch. "My surname?" he asked lightly, eyes still trained on the letter. "Am I in trouble?"
The look in Lunya's crystalline eyes was unreadable.
"You are one of us"—and obviously she did not mean one of the Warriors, the heroes of the star, compassionate, brave, true; she spoke of their shared affection, affliction, starved for coin and hungering for more. The ruthlessness that came with it and the way she and Tsuna sensed it in each other at first meeting and in him and he in them. Lunya was happy to leave things at that back then, more amused than anything that two fellow creatures of avarice drifted to each other as they did, but none of them expected for things to become the way they are—"and this—" She waved the envelope. He fought back the resurging urge to swipe it from her. "—goes beyond banter with a friend. You're playing a dangerous game, Hancock."
She was right, of course, but—"Tsuna is an adult," he argued. "She is free to make her own choices."
"And Tsuna is my friend. Our friend." How was it that even with his spectacles on it was like she could see right through him? "So if you're just screwing around—"
No. Absolutely not. He'd sooner die than have anyone think that way. "I am not playing," Hancock said firmly. "This isn't a game. Tsuna is not a toy or a conquest or a chess piece. She's…" With a sigh, he removed his spectacles once more, hoping his earnestness could be conveyed. "I would rather say it to her face first."
Lunya softened. "It's worse than I thought," she said gently, finally handing the letter to him, the guarded steel in her eyes giving way to affection. "You're a good man, Hancock, and it's hard for people like us to stay that way. I'd rather neither of you get hurt."
Unable to say anything more, Hancock could only nod feebly, strangely cowed in the face of this woman determined to shoulder the burdens of all her loved ones when the universe failed to do anything for them itself.
"I trust you're offering a response service for this letter..?" he ventured. He held the letter tightly, careful not to crush its precious words. "I'll have konpeito prepared for your troubles."
"Right, right," their little mailmoogle said, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she turned and strode toward the door. "I'll be at Bokairo for the night, so I better see you in the morning."
As she opened the door, Lunya paused and looked over her shoulder.
"You've ruined that girl, Hancock," she said, and her grin was all mirth and glee and none of the hostility he would have expected just minutes before. "You should know she was blushing like a Halonic nun when she handed that to me."
Kami be good, Hancock thought as the door closed on his friend. He had seen all of Tsuna many times before, in the most primal and carnal of ways, but the thought of her face flooded with warmth at his attempt at long distance courtship seized him with a swell of affection that nearly bowled him over.
Settling on the windowsill at the back of the office, Kugane's sunshine warming him further, Hancock unsealed the letter and began to read.

"Rejoice.. From this day and so on, you will directly serve me alone...."
Growing up, all you ever did was listen and obey those who ranks stronger than you. And that person was no other than Boa Hancock, the Empress of your island.
When your mother died unexpectedly, she took you under her watchful eyes. Being only a child at the time, you were unaware of how dangerous your surroundings were. Surrounded by the jungle and waters filled with sea kings, you will never survive.
The women were all like walking on eggshells around you. Your mother was a fearsome warrior that boarded the Kuja Pirates' ship. She was well respected by her peers and because of that, the rest treated you like a delicated flower that deserved to be sheltered.
You were a child without a maternal protection and guidance.
But after being graced by her benelovence, you grew to adore the snake princess and bow to serve her with everything you have. Hancock treated you like how she would treat anyone below her, yet in your child like mind, she was the only one who didn't see you as fragile as glass.
And to repay that, you went and learned the ways of the women in the island.
"Snake Princess, please allow me to serve your every needs! I won't hesistate to do all of them!"
"Snake Princess, I brought you your tea. Just like how you like it..."
"Please leave quietly. The Snake Princess is currently occupied and cannot see an audience."
"My empress, you seems to be slightly fatigued, should I draw a herb bath to soothe your mind and cleanse your body?"
"I'll be on guard by the door if you ever request anything, Snake Princess. I'll be happy to aid you with all of my capabilities...."
You learned and mastered observation haki at a young age as you often went and learned everything that should and shouldn't do around the Pirate Empress. After all, you felt like you owe your life to her.
But that's also when you finally saw through the mask she often wore. She has a deep fear somewhere in her heart that she tried so hard to hide, the same fear that her sisters share with her.
You kept silent about it as you thought it wasn't your place to ask. But after that, you began to see her in a different light.
Boa Hancock is much more valiantly elegant than what you previously thought. And you admire her strong demeanor in hopes that one day, you'll be like her too..
As a Kuja warrior, you strived and hone your skills in hopes of pleasing your Empress even more. You worked harder to be a better version of yourself. You became the best hunter of your tribe while fully adapting to your own snake weapon.
Hancock rarely talk to you, however, she kept you often at her side, doing her bidding.
"What is with that smile on your face?"
"I'm happy, Snake Princess. To be able to prove my worth by serving you, it's the greatest honor..."
Most women would cower under her cold gaze, but you on the other hand, was brave enough to stare back with much admiration, carrying and obeying with a gentle smile on your face. Pure genuine, you didn't fawn over her like how the rest did, nor threw yourself under her feet as she walk pass by.
Everything you do was all voluntary that she didn't even have to use her charms to force you to obey.
Eventually, your obedience lead to Hancock trusting you completely. Becoming her right hand woman, whom she could trust Amazon Lily with. She know that you will never betray her with how much dedicated you are on serving her.
You were too kind. Whenever she looks out on the window of the castle, she would often see you helping out your fellow women with a huge smile on your face. Every requests thrown at your direction, you immediately agreed on, as if rejection is not on your vocabulary.
She knew by then, that she chosen the right person to trust on.
The first time you actually met a man, was when Hancock commanded you to stay back on the island as she sails away with her sisters and the elite warriors of the tribe.
"Snake Princess, why do I have stay here? I am confident in my abilities that I won't be considered as a hinder.."
You pleaded, carefully observing her reactions if ever you annoyed her with your words. To be near Hancock, means that you have to be careful not to anger her to avoid loosing her favor on you.
"You are not ready to sail on the Perfume Yuda yet. So use that strength on keeping this island safe until I return..."
Being often near the snake princess, gave you privilage to lead your fellow warriors whenever she and her sisters are not around. They listen to your instructions carefully and proceed to do their respective chores dedicatedly.
As you were given the task of protecting the island by Hancock herself, you took the initiative of scouting the jungle along side three other woman named Marguerite, Sweet Pea and Aphelandra.
"While we're here, should we perhaps hunt a beast for today's lunch?"
You asked the trio, hoping to bring a good feast for the warriors who scouted the other areas of the island, but before anyone could respond, you all notice smoke coming from the far side of the jungle. Wordlessly, you gave the women a commanding look before running off to the source with them following behind.
And that's how you met the strange man now called Luffy.
You found him beatened and unconcious with mushroom growing on his body. Not knowing his identity before hand, your pity for the injured had allowed him to enter the village.
Allowing Belladona and the rest of the women to tend his wounds, you and Marguerite provided on sewing new clothes identical to his previous tattered ones.
Marguerite embroidered floral patterns on the vest and you sewed a new pair of clean shorts.
Until the elder, Nyon revealed his identity of being a man.
"So this is what a man look like....?"
Unlike the rest of the women who all got defensive on his sudden outburst, you on the other hand could only continue to stare with curiosity.
Because you could clearly see his intentions. He was annoyed with how the rest wanted to pull his balls of gold, how feminine his clothes were and how tense he was when weapons pointed at his direction.
Yet you can see the desperation on his eyes. His desperation to leave the island, and return to his friends, atleast from what you heard him shout.
"Wait, stop...!"
You told the women to cease all actions but it was then, their arrows rained towards his cell, forcing himself to break out.
"He is not a threat!"
"(Name) all men who enters this island must be eliminated. That is the rules given by our ancestors that is upholded for centuries!"
Kikyo scolded you. Reminding you of where your loyalty lies. If your Empress ever finds out that a man entered the island under your supervision, you knew that you'll be the one paying for the consequences.
You feared to see the disappointment, Hancock would send you once she finds out. Hate to have suddenly betrayed her trust of getting fooled by a man whom you allowed to enter in the island. And you hate to disappoint her.
But the women are willing to help you out by pretending that this had never happened. Once you capture the man and kill him, this will all be a forgotten event. Boa Hancock will never know that a man soiled her land with his filt....right?
So with a conflicted thought, you went with the rest to pursue the strawhat wearing man.
Tumblr media
Somehow, you found yourself being held hostaged by the same man. At first, you and the other Kuja warriors were all chasing after him through out the village, when all of sudden, he turned around to face you.
Looking through the crowd of women, his eyes landed on to your guarded ones, stretching his arm, he immediately wrapped them around you before running off.
He kidnapped you, atleast that what you thought as he made his way out to the village with you in his arms.
"I need that paper back..."
He was after the paper you found on his tattered clothes. You stared at him warily as your snake slithered from your shoulders to your arm, forming into your weapon. You hoped that you wouldn't be using it against him but you can't avoid taking that risk.
You stared at his impatient form, silently observing his every move. You can tell that he has no intentions of fighting you either.
"You mean this....? What does it do...?"
Curiosity over took your judgement as you pulled out the paper to his field of vision. Seeing the absolute relief on his face made you lower your guard a little. What was the importance of a small piece of paper with a name written on it?
"My friends and I got separated, I need this paper to see them again."
"Who...are you anyways...?"
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy. I'm a pirate..!"
He spoke with a boyish grin on his face that you couldn't help but reprocate. He kept his distance seeing how you weren't comfortable being near a man....yet. He spoke fondly of his crew.
Like how you often spoke about the Snake Princess.
"The Snake Princess rules this island, she's wary of outsiders like you, but once you see through the mask she often wore, you can see how caring she's really is...!"
"I see! You really like the boss of this place, huh..? She must be really nice then."
You didn't realized that you were talking rather eagerly like you knew him for years already until you hear his laughter. Feeling slightly embarrased that you lost your composure, you immediately went to defend yourself.
"D-don't get ahead of yourself, man! Just because I'm talking to you, doesn't mean I'll let you do what you want here... No men are allowed on this island!"
You were already getting attached to him, he doesn't seem to be a threat at all. You thought as you saved him from drowning after his attempt to make a raft.
And before you could even think about helping him escape, the defense warrior group finally found the two of you in which he decided to flee.
By the time, you caught up to him, you knew it was already too late. Hancock was already aware of his presence and had ordered for his capture after he crashed on her chambers when she was bathing.
"Where were you, (Name)?"
You couldn't face her, you could only stand behind her with her sister Marigold on your front.
"Forgive me, Snake Princess... I was out there trying to capture that man..."
Boa Hancock is a rather observative woman. She observes people who falls under her rules. She knows her worth and what she is capable of and use it for her advantage.
Imagine to her slight surprise, you weren't there to greet her return at the end of the red carpet. That was her first suspicion, you never failed to show up first whenever she returns to the Island after weeks on sea.
She got even more suspicious when every woman she came across to lied when she asked of your wherebouts. Their only replied was, you had to hunt down a troublesome monkey that involves the rest of the island's defense troupe.
So when this man appeared, she knew she has to demonstrate a taste of her power to all of the women on the island. You included. She is the Empress, and it is her duty to protect the women under her care. She ought to show an example of how truly vile men are.
You who were oblivious of how truly cruel the world is. Too kind and obedient for her liking yet she couldn't find the heart to tell you off. She wasn't blind to see the adoration on your face whenever she is nearby. Nor she was oblivious to how genuine your actions were. She can see the unwavering loyalty you shown for her.
However she wasn't expecting you to grow attached to Luffy.
She noticed how your behavior shifted to tense and discomfort seeing him fight in that arena.
"What is it, (Name)?"
"Nothing, my empress..."
She could applaud you keeping your emotions in check. However, she found herself staring at you in disbelief when your cool finally broke when Marguerite, Sweet Pea and Aphelandra step in, attempt to save Luffy.
"My apologies, but I was the one who brought him to the village. If anyone deserves to be punished, it should be me. Those three merely followed my orders."
"You know what happens to those who defy me, (Name). Why are you defending the guilty?"
Taking up the courage, you managed to look her directly in the eyes. Those cold and dull hues that holds deeper emotions within. With a deep breath, you gave her your usual smiles.
Your compassionate smile of purity.
"I was the one who allowed permission for him to enter the village, my empress. So I should be the one held accountable. Marguerite, Sweet Pea and Aphelandra did nothing wrong, so please allow me to take their punishment alone.
You pleaded them to be spared. Seeing how you are willing to take the risks of saving the girls including Luffy slightly wavered her resolved.
"....You disappointed me, (Name).."
But she is still the Empress, and she has to show her authority over the island. Knowing full well that her powers could not affect you in any way, she asked a few warriors to take you away. You who looked back at her with a dejected face.
The man wearing a strawhat look angry on your behalf. He fought bravely against her sisters, demanding to set you free as you were innocent from all of this.
"She did nothing wrong! She was only trying to save me!"
Hancock kept her composure as she watched the battle raged on. What was so special about this man that you were willingly to defend him.
You were just too kind that it slightly annoyed her. You should only reserve it to her and her people alone. Your kindness shouldn't be shown to filthy men who will only take advantage of you.
This was the first defiance you've ever done. Hancock gritted her teeth as memories flashed between her eyes, ransacking every single one, yet she didn't remember you showing any disobedience like this before.
Just when she was starting to treasure you.
Only when the battle was over, she finally understood. Luffy was kind in his own way. Is that why you defended him? Because you were aware that he was not like those men who once trespassed the island?
Luffy seems to know the secret she was so desperate of hiding, so does that means that you already know? What do you see in her now?
Only when she was finally alone in her room, was she began breaking down, silent tears fell down as she didn't want her sisters to hear. Having you by her side for years as her closest aide made her conflicted. She only kept you nearby was because of pity.
You loosing your mother at such a young age. Your mother who was apart of her crew, died at sea because of her warrior pride to protect the rest. It was by guilt, your mother's death at her ship is what made her take you under her wing.
She watched you grow up into a formidable warrior serving her with nothing but pure genuine adoration. It was nothing like the lust thrown to her way by both genders whenever she was present.
It was a gaze of a child with innocent admiration. You look up to her as a person and not just someone with otherworldy beauty.
Which is why she didn't let you join her crew. Giving excuses that you weren't strong enough to travel the seas on her ship. She didn't want you to see how vicious and filthy this world truly is. Nor for people to take advantage of your kindness.
What will happen if you knew the truth? It was her selfishness that killed your mother. Her selfish orders is what caused your mother to loose her life. Will you still have the same look on your face if you ever find out her slave mark? Or are you already aware of it?
Knowing you for years, no. You would never look at her differently even after she told you her secret. But the truth? It was because of her that you grew up without your mother's tender love and care.
But even so, she gave in with her fears. Through out the years, even she tried hard to push you away with her cold atittude, you still managed to find a place in her heart.
You were patient with her. Serving her with a bright smile that herself couldn't help but grew fond of. You tolerate her bratty attitude and beauty even when she knew that didn't have any affect on you. Only you were the one who can see through her lies and stayed.
But Hancock is a selfish woman, she was drawn to your warmth that she decided to keep you close, Because she was selfish, she only wants to keep your kindness to herself.
Because being around you, she can be a regular person that people never fawn on. Not like a luxurious item that people wanted to have, but a person who has her own feelings and wants.
All she hope is that you would forgive her like how you always do.

🎄 Happy Starlight 2023! ✨
Tumblr media
Thank you for all your support this year as I expand my OC & bard boys lore. It’s been a blast and a half, so let’s have even more fun next year!
Love ~ Vel, Fjora, Cora and the bard unit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the Final Days were thwarted and the various contingents returned home, the populace—soldiers and civilians alike—needed something positive to cling to. Not just hope on the ephemeral Warrior of Lights, but also something nearer and dearer to their heart: a return to normalcy. Thus for Starlight this year, the bard unit had been roped into performing on stage, and Sanson asked for every one of his team to join him and Guydelot.
They were supported by Fjora, Cora, and Haurchefant, who had settled—for now—in Gridania. To Sanson's shock and Guydelot's amusement, Commander Vorsaile had raised his hand to join the festivities, and who was Sanson to reject the chance for more merriment? Group assembled, they took to the stage, ready to share some Starlight cheer for one and all.
Individual photos and bio of the bard unit under the cut 💖
The following character bios are written to fit into my WoL's canon timeline and therefore will not reflect the game's information. Edit 25 Dec: I have updated some of their ages to a few years younger, to explain their absence from being conscripted at Carteneau.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warrior of Lights:
Fjora Swiftmane: A Rava Viera of fourty-eight summers who left Golmore in search of freedom, only to find it eventually trampled under Garlean ruthlessness. She joined the Dalmascan resistance for a time, though Livia sas Junius' massacre ended her involvement. Fjora left Othard with anger and grief in her heart, and Hydaelyn's calling to be her champion was the start of her healing journey. She is an Uhlan, a heavy-infantry lancer whose skill is now augmented by her Dragoon training.
Corentin Arceneaux: A Wildwood Elezen bard of twenty-five summers, born to antique trader parents in Othard. He became a ward of Rasho and Tansui after his parents were murdered by the Garleans for being undercover Resistance financiers. Cora stayed in the Ruby Sea until the liberation of Doma, when he decided to travel with his long lost sister/close family friend Fjora. His weapon of choice is his giant Hingan bow and his magic-imbued Sanshin. At present he is entangled in some kind of strange relationship to one Hancock Fitzgerald, to whom he owes money for breaking a priceless vase in his collection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Twin Adder Bard unit:
Sanson Smyth: A young Midlander lancer who captains the Bard unit. He is steadfast with a strong sense of morality and justice, a trait that often puts him at odds with his Adder superiors. Yet with the support of Guydelot and Vorsaile, he vows to stay true to his conviction and lead Gridania to a better future. At twenty-two years of age, he still thinks himself inexperienced, despite the accolades that he is fast accumulating on his mantelpiece. He is in a long-term relationship with Guydelot.
Guydelot Thildonnet: A talented, wilful Wildwood bard who was infamous for his truancy and recalcitrance towards any kind of authority. In recent times he's seen a marked improvement in his attendance, and one might even say he's turned a new leaf into the straight and narrow, all under the stern command of Captain Sanson Smyth; a feat backed by the medal tally that the man cared little about. What most people do not know, however, is that the twenty-four year old bard owes this change to his genuine interest and commitment to this unit... and to Sanson himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karinae Béringer: Sanson's second in command ever since he was made Captain, Karinae is a skilled Duskwight lancer who's ready to defend her friends and comrades at any moment's notice, no matter when or where. Usually you would find the twenty-three year old in the Druthers, hustling free drinks out of any poor souls with her captivating charm—except for Dietrich.
Perinnault Deschamps: A novice bard with brilliant aim and a keen sense of tempo who joined Sanson's unit before the liberation of Ala Mhigo. At twenty and one summers, the Wildwood Elezen is eager to learn everything there is about being a bard, and is improving markedly with every mission that he undertakes.
Dietrich Eltz: Despite his splendid marksmanship, the twenty year old Midlander is a sensitive soul who is prone to crying at the drop of a hat when overwhelmed. His voice had been likened to the sweetness of a spring bloom, and his good looks had won him the admiration of many; yet all he wants is to learn how to become confident in his own skill, and to be admired by the merit of his battlesongs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minh'to Zhwan: A twenty-three year old Keeper of the Moon lancer who was temporarily assigned to Sanson's unit just after the Ballad of Oblivion quest, Minh'to gained the utmost respect for the Captain after they survived and routed an Ixali skirmish. He asked to be transferred permanently and is now thriving under Sanson's leadership, which allows him to learn a myriad of combat skills from their joint Alliance training. He is fiercely protective of his twin sister.
Aemi Zhwan: Stuck in a rut at her previous unit with no pathway to improvement, the twenty-three year old Keeper of the Moon conjurer eventually asked for a transfer to Sanson's unit at the insistence of her twin brother just before Ghimlyt. After surviving the bloody battle, she vowed to support her newly-found comrades in any way she could, having been awed by Guydelot's prowess in the field. She was a sickly child growing up, and Minh'to stepped in to be her protector.
Dya Nakhiri: A studious conjurer, the twenty-four year old Highlander can often be found sequestering themselves in the corner of the Nest, surrounded by books on conjury and battle tactics. When the bards joined Sanson's unit, suddenly their horizon was expanded and now they are deep into research on how to better align the bards' songs with the conjurers' healing spells. Despite their stern countenance, Dya is quietly warm and welcoming once you endear yourself to them.

Supporting casts:
Haurchefant Greystone: Stolen away by accident to the First at the moment of his death by Crystal Exarch, Haurchefant had been living and training there for nigh ten years, all to better support Fjora when she finally comes to save them all. After a harrowing reunion, they decided to rekindle their relationship, though the plan went awry when Haurchefant became tempered by Fjora's absorbed Light. After an intervention by Hydaelyn before she departs, his soul becomes stable enough to be housed in a Hannish simulacrum, crafted personally as a gift for the Warrior of Light. He now travels with her and Cora, ever ready to defend his friends and family once more. Counting his time in the First, he is now thirty and eight summers old.
Vorsaile Heuloix: The High Commander of the Twin Adders is no stranger to challenging authority, a trait that had served him well during his mercenary days. Ever since the affair with Gylbarde's Journal, the thirty-five year old Wildwood had taken a shine to Sanson and his upstanding integrity and despite not being his direct superior, he's been mentoring the Captain to be his protégé—in defiance to every Adders protocol that keeps him employed. He still grimaces when people affectionately calls him 'Vorsie' though he might be warming up to the nickname at the slowest of snail's pace.

"Didn't Quite Make It" Poll
Propaganda (including the Estinien rant I alluded to a while back, which is probably the outside edge of allowable propaganda) and images below.
Tumblr media
Erik: "talks down to the wol constantly, assumes they're an unintelligent musclehead, preaches to his fellow ala mhigans about the 'correct' way to rebel against garlemald in a similar tone, generally kind of a massive dickhead through the majority of the questline"
Tumblr media
Estinien: "I HATE HIS STUPID GUTS. “OHHHH IM THE AZURE DRAGOON. THE ONLY AZURE DRAGOON!” BITCH NIDHOGG’S EYEBALL COULDNT RESIST ME AND MADE ME THE SECOND AZURE DRAGOON. BUT DO YOU TELL ISHGARD? DO YOU EVEN TELL YOUR BESTIE AYMERIC? NO. I BEAT YOUR ASS AND THEN YOU HAVE THE GALL TO CASUALLY BRING UP THE TIME YOU TRIED TO KILL ME LIKE ITS A FUNNY HAHA MEMORY. AND THEN LIKE SOME DUMBASS YOU CONVENIENTLY FORGET THAT NIDHOGG POSSESSED YOU ALREADY AND GET YOUR HANDS ON BOTH OF HIS JUICY EYEBALLS. YOU DIDN’T EVEN THINK OF OFFERING ONE TO ME! ME! THE SECOND AZURE DRAGOON WHO IS CONVENIENTLY HERE AND COULD HAVE PREVENTED YOU GETTING POSSESSED. AND ON TOP OF THAT YOU STOLE ALPHINAUD FROM ME. I WAS THERE ALONGSIDE HIM WHEN ALL OF UL’DAH WAS AGAINST US BUT INSTEAD HE LOOKS UP TO YOU JUST BECAUSE YOU TAUGHT HIM TO COLLECT FIREWOOD. THIS ISNT EVEN ALL OF WHY I HATE HIM. FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT PISS RAT WHO CAN’T EVEN DEAL WITH MOOGLES FOR A FEW MINUTES WHILE IM BUSTING MY ASS DOING FETCH QUESTS FOR A STUPID MINION LOCKED BEHIND TRIBAL QUESTS."
Tumblr media
G'raha Tia: "He was an annoying little shit (I love him now though. I’m so sorry G’Raha T^T)" (Note: the submitter specified that this was just for his appearance in the Crystal Tower raids and not later on)
Tumblr media
Hancock: "Just look. At his face. He is a smug little capitalist bastard who just happens to be on our side."
Tumblr media
Khloe: "the myth of three lines"
Tumblr media
Krile: "Spends her first interactions clowning on Alphinaud pretty harshly and while he usually deserves it he is also my baby and I want to kick her ass for it"
Tumblr media
Lue-Reeq: "Brags about having so much money, gives out pocket change he mooched from his parents. Whines when the WoL has a poorly-timed Echo. Prevented me from having quality time with the Bard Boys in ShB."
Tumblr media
Radlia: "I’m gonna be honest her facial expressions are fun to imagine socking her to but I’m mostly submitting her because I feel bad for ranting about my personal vendetta against est*nien earlier. She’s a lovely heel character! Very punchable." (Note: this was the same submitter as the above Estinien rant)
Tumblr media
Rhitahtyn: "Poor bastard. I'd say beating him isn't even fun anymore but the new solo duty is actually very cool."
Tumblr media
The Warrior of Light: "Cause it's us"

i don't get intimidated (girl, i celebrate it)
ffxivwrite2023 #13: check look at; take notice of.
Pre-relationship Tsuna/Hancock. Post-Stormblood. 993wc. ⮞ Checklist, 1 2 3 / you can tell me what you need ♫ (can it be me?)
Being a wealthy ijin living in Kugane for some time now made the presence of beautiful people somewhat of a given to Hancock Fitzgerald. Not in an arrogant or conceited way, mind you; where other, lesser men would forget their roots, Hancock could never forget his humble own and he looked upon those who clamoured for his attention and coin without disdain. How could he, when he himself knew what it was like to be desperate, to hope someone else would pick him from the squalor of an old life?
So, just as the early mornings of the port city were misty and the dining prices for tourists who didn't know any better were exorbitant if not outright extortion, Hancock was used to the preening and vying of men and women alike looking for a ticket out of poverty by way of his lap. He offered those who truly, earnestly needed it his coin purse but indulged even fewer in more base desires. Lord Lolorito had him here for business, not pleasure, after all, and Hancock was loyal to the man and the job.
But this—this was a feeling he wasn't used to.
Mizuhiki no Tsuna smiled across the bar, nodding along behind her folding fan as she listened to some ijin's tall tale of a battle he most certainly did not actually partake in. She was a vision in crimson as rich as the sunset over Kugane and she was quite deliberately emphasizing her breasts and curves to attract a growing crowd of men desperate to have the attention of a beautiful Hingan woman.
Her smile was like the sun. It wasn't directed at him.
Hancock knew since the Scions' first day in Kugane that Miss Tataru Taru took a particular interest in the Holstery's tavern and could be found here more often than not, playing up her charm as a foreign and rarely-seen Lalafell in this part of the world to curry favors and information out of local men. He'd also known that Tsuna would often join her on these ventures, herself being an expert in the arts of seduction and reconnaissance and objectively drop-dead gorgeous. But to see her in action, surrounded by other ijin men who thought of her only as their ticket to staying in the city or a good time in bed—
Something about it was churning his belly.
They were birds of a feather, the two of them, cutthroat when it came to coin and disinclined to reveal their full hand at once, doing good for themselves and those they cared about at the cost of their reputation. He was simply looking out for her, obviously, as someone who understood her character better than any other. It wasn't that deep.
But no. Tsuna knew what she was doing; she wasn't an innocent flower that could be preyed on. If anything, the woman was a fly trap, dripping honey in her words and actions. Luring others in was simply what she did best. She didn't ask to be looked after and she certainly didn't need to be.
(Hells, she'd all but lured him in too.)
Mizuhiki no Tsuna had no need for him. But… what of him for her?
"You must pardon me, ladies," Hancock said gently to his own entourage. "I see a friend of mine I must speak to." If the women who'd clung to him from the moment he entered the Holstery were bothered by his dismissal they said nothing, as per custom of Hingan inability to be straightforward.
A few of the men around her must have recognized him because they gave him dirty looks, muttered to each other, and promptly made themselves scarce when he approached. Tsuna didn't look offended at their sudden dispersal, resting her elbows on the table in a way that only further emphasized her cleavage as she waved them goodbye with a sly wiggle of her fingers. One of the men tripped up the stairs at the sight and Hancock made a note to find a reason to damn his next shipment of exports.
"Lady Mizuhiki!" he greeted jovially as he slid into the seat beside her when they were alone at last, keeping at a distance appropriate for colleagues.
"Hancock," Tsuna said, thankfully amused at his appearance. Her voice fell on him like cool, fresh water at the end of a sweltering Ul'dahn day and he thought he could drink it in forever. "I had not taken you for the sort of man to chase a woman's paramours away like a nuisance of pigeons."
"But you have taken me," he quipped and was delighted to draw a surprised laugh from her.
Beneath the shadows of the table, Tsuna reached out to rest a slender hand—that same hand that flippantly waved off her prospective lovers just moments before—on his knee and kept it there. He smelled only mint and yuzu and bergamot on her; she hadn't taken any drinks from her courtiers. "That I have."
Fighting back a swallow more appropriate of a teenager, he shifted a little closer. "I heard the Scions were busy on the Yanxian coast, but I did not think I would be so lucky as to be in your presence tonight," he said. "So, is it business or pleasure that brings you here tonight?"
"A bit of both," she said in turn. Her eyes were the colour of a fine champagne but in the low lights of the Holstery they almost glowed gold, more tantalizing than all the riches in Ul'dah's coffers. Leaning closer, she murmured, "But I could be persuaded to make it just one."
"I've given my aide the night off," he admitted, hoping he didn't sound overly eager or desperate. "The offices of the Ruby Bazaar are better for your presence, my friend."
Tsuna raised a thin brow but she didn't hide her smile behind her fan this time, taking his offered hand and disappearing into the city with him.

The Warrior of Light/Darkness goes through their fair share of betrayals. In your character's mind, which of them was the most profound and how did it affect them? Have they been able to trust properly since it happened?
Thank you Sea! Sorry it took a little to get to this. This is a very interesting ask!
There are some betrayals that stick and I want to talk about, and I just finished Shadowbringers I got a bunch of jumbled thoughts about that.
The betrayal of the crystal braves didn’t feel personal to Meryta - it was not her idea and while she was disappointed it didn’t feel personally directed at her; she was a pawn in a political game but to her the betrayal was only part of a whole complex series of events and plans. She didn’t have a lot of political experience and her take is the it was unforeseen - even as she knew something was wrong within the Braves.
It does make it hard for her to trust Lolorito again, and by extension the East Aldenard trading company and Hancock (she doesn’t like him and would rather be independent of them)
Right now, the betrayal Meryta feels most deeply, is the one of Urianger in Shadowbringers - even as it was less of a betrayal and more of an omission of facts.
She wasn’t too upset at his earlier double agent play with the (original) Warriors of Darkness. She understood why he did what he did, and she trusted it was the best course of action.
In Shadowbringers though (which I just finished) she finds it harder to forgive both G'raha and Urianger - it felt like a betrayal that they both lied and removed her agency. She believed Urianger had seen visions of the future, and they all acted with limited information. The idea that Uri and G'raha decided that she was both - the solution, once again to everything but also important enough to have a convoluted plan to make her survive? It upset her. That they didn’t trust her with the full truth - that makes her angry and it will be awhile before she shakes that.
She knew the Exarch was up to something, but though upset she didn’t feel betrayed.
She’s forgiven Urianger - once more. That is easy for her. But she knows now he’ll do the same again, and she’ll probably never trust him to tell her the full truth. She trusts him to do what he believes is right, but she no longer think he is always right or that he trusts her. Maybe is will heal in time, but right now it’s very raw for her.
I think this generally doesn’t affect her ability to trust in general, I don’t think she can entirely let go of her optimism (and nativity)
