🥳 📜 Happy Purim! 🎭 🎉
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy Purim, all! Slightly belated, but it’s Shushan Purim, at least. Like I do every year, here are some pictures of my shaloch manot, the gifts of food I gave to family and friends.
This year I made lemon and caramel hamentashen, and turtle brownies (in cupcake form). I also included pink lady apples, and also chocolate cherries that I found at the dollar store. mmm, chocolate cherries...
I found some new butterfly stationery to use for my gift cards! It's so pretty, and works perfectly in my printer, and I don't have to do any cutting like I did with the old stationery. There's also matching washi tape, but I didn't use it this year-- maybe next year or elsewhere I guess.
Didn't wear a costume this year (no time), but I did finally get a chance to wear my new sky whale skirt. It's the cutest, I'm so happy I was finally able to find it in stock. Everyone was complimentary, I definitely need to wear it more often. Also, I found a set of (purple) maracas at World Market that I used to boo Haman during the Megillah reading. 🪇
I hope those celebrating are having a fun and joyful holiday, and I wish I could share my treats with all my lovely followers. 🥰💖🎉

I’m a sweet hamentashen lover, apricot is my favorite, but not apricot jelly, my mom makes a filling using dried apricots that I absolutely love
But I have tried savory hamentashen before and they were pretty good, my mom made hamentashen filled with pulled brisket and bought pre-made dough because her usual recipe was too sweet to make savory, I liked them although not as much as sweet!
Ok wait how dare you. I want to try brisket hamentashen now. How dare you make me crave savory hamentashen.
(That's so cool though!!!!!)

In case anyone was wondering, this is what Jewish joy looks like, at least re: baking hamentaschen. Three flavors, and the scraps that were too tough to roll out again became thumbprint cookies. This was from a baking marathon with my mom last Sunday; yesterday we went to my Grandma and baked a batch of "normal" ones from what is supposedly her father's recipe. I have some pretty pics, but I don't show people on Tumblr.

Our Purim Spiel this year was incredibly fun and memorable! We gave out about 300 hamentashen after the performance and they were gone in under an hour… they must have been good!

Joining the Hamentashenposting with my first attempt at hamentashen.
I baked these at 100° lower than reccomended and for only 7 minutes, but my nightmare oven still burned them lmao
Still came out delicious tho.

tbh the biggest thing ive noticed in the dragon prince so far is that the jelly tarts are just hamentashen and they make me hungry every time i see them

Jewish culture is arguing about whether or not pereg is a good idea to put in your hamentashen
(Its not) (sorry to get political but its god awful.) (Don't tell my mom I said that)

Twig’s Hamentashen Recipe:
Tumblr media
Yield: approximately 20 cookies
2 eggs
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 pinches of salt
2 1/4 cups of flour (you may need slightly more or less)
Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C)
Beat the eggs with a fork in a large bowl then add everything except the flour. Mix well.
Slowly incorporate the flour a bit at a time (you may need to start using your hands) until the mixture isn’t sticking to your fingers a lot and the dough is workable.
Roll the dough out to about a fourth of an inch thick then cut out the cookies using a 3” round cookie cutter or the lip of a cup, a can, etc.
Transfer to a tray then fill with 1 tsp of filling. If you add too much it will leak out so be careful!
Fold your hamentachen into a triangle however you prefer. I usually pinch them since I find it keeps the fillings in better.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until the tips are slightly golden.
Filling ideas: canned pie fillings if you want something quick, Nutella, chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake, caramel (my favorite), birthday cake cheesecake, strawberry jam, peach preserves, brownie batter (used less than one tsp since it expands), marshmallow fluff with chocolate chips (also less than 1tsp), etc!
Add sprinkles, coca powder, or mini chocolate chips, spices, etc. to your dough for extra fun!

Happy Purim, all! Just a bit late, lol. Like I do every year, here are some pictures of my shaloch manot, the gifts of food I gave to family and friends. This year I made prune hamentashen (they taste much better than you might expect prunes to), and also Jim's peanut butter fudge, mmm fudge. I also included some dried mangoes, and these neat Hershey kisses that apparently have vanilla frosting under the chocolate.
Alas, this is the last of my butterfly stationery. 😭 I got this pack of fancy paper, sheesh, must've been at least 15 years ago if not longer, for invites for a cousin's wedding shower, and there was so much left over that I started using it for these shaloch manot cards. 4 cards per page apparently lasts a long long time. Will have to make sure I really love the next thing of fancy paper just as much -- hopefully I can find some with butterflies. 🦋
I hope those celebrating are having a fun and joyful holiday, and I wish I could share my treats with everybody! 🥰💖🎉
