You bet your buns it did. In fact that one was originally going to be a comic specifically because the idea for it was so visual. 

That one bit in the first/eighth(?) chapter where Kagami sees Aomine unconscious in the hospital and the weight of everything that he’s watched happen crashes over him... I even illustrated it before I wrote it (bearing in mind this was several years ago and my art skills were... heh)

while ppl are talking about your fics, I reread Girl with Golden Eyes once a freaking week and snot-cry every single time like I dont know exactly what's going to happen. I have like, all the words memorized- it's the fic that made aokaga for me. After I read it I couldn't get over it as a concept. The scene where Aomine wakes up in the hospital after Kagami calls him baby--I can't even describe. It makes me want to scream and cry every time lmao.

Oh gosh thanks so much for telling me I had no idea people were still so invested in that fic!! :O 

I’m so glad you’re able to get so much out of it, and that you even come back to it, that’s amazing! I’ve recently been trying to find love for my older works and remember my roots to hopefully make me a better writer, so it’s really nice to hear that I was able to have that kind of impact.

I’m admittedly not very well-versed in AoKaga fics since most of my involvement with them was more content creating than content consuming? Meaning I wrote rp for a while and recently got into writing fic!!

I DO have a favorite author in the fandom which is undoubtedly @theshinsun bc his perception of the AoKaga dynamic is extremely rounded and complex and his fics are very very entertaining to read. You can find all of his AoKaga fics (well at least those up on Ao3) here  if you want to but I’ll give you a little rec of my absolute favorites alright!!

Girl With Golden Eyes series (trigger warning: drugs)

summary: “Aomine and Kagami have been a couple for years, Aomine shoots heroin, and it's only a matter of time before everything spirals out of control.”

word count: 56,126

rating: explicit / teen and up

review: that’s it. That’s really it, but at the same time, this story is so much more; this is about love, about devotion, about how those two things can assist in ruining lives. This is about healing and growing from both of their sides, their relationship wavering and then growing stronger with each obstacle they manage to get out of the way. I was actually pretty wary of it when I read the description and the tags, but the subject is handled so delicately and carefully, focusing way more of the way Aomine’s drug use affects their relationship rather than just using it for angst reasons. It is highkey angsty, and the tag ‘Heartless Author’ is never a joke when it comes to Shin, but I really recommend this if you can handle drug use in fic, because, and I’m not kidding, this fic hella seemed to change my life and how I see things.

I’ll Go With You (trigger warning: mentions of transphobia, dysphoria)

summary: “ “You shouldn’t have to fight to be allowed to like, be a person.” Impact.  Clenched fists strike unprotected skin, nails biting into his palms.   Blood bursts between teeth no longer sneering, grimacing in pain,   scarlet spattering bright and shockingly human on the pavement at   Taiga’s feet. review: Shin galaxybrained so hard with the FTM Kagami that I’m still holding my forehead in disbelief. It makes so much sense to me, and I love it, and there’s also supportive Aomine and a bunch of happiness being piled on the shit Kagami’s going through, just a small oneshot that makes my heart flutter. This piece if hopeful, happy and sweet and I must’ve re-read it at least eight times since I discovered it recently. (Also, they hook up. It’s nice.)

Ain’t No Rest

summary: “ Life is tough for a single parent... especially a high school dropout  parent living on odd jobs and gambling basketball named Aomine Daiki. Life gets even tougher when actual, challenging opponent Kagami Taiga   appears and proceeds to fuck all of his shit up.  “

review: Oh God. Oh my god, dude. I myself haven’t finished this fic yet, but it’s so so much more than I expected of a teen parent fic. Sometimes this makes me more concerned for the boys than GWGE which is equal parts funny and terrifying to me. Single parent Aomine is a blessing, and so is Kagami with his goddamn charm and willingness to be there for him any way he can, but there’s just so many complications and twists and turns that keeps me on my toes. I just had to put it down and take a break because something in the last published chapter made me physically ache for him. It’s beautiful, and just like GWGE, offers a window into Aomine’s complex soul that I have not seen before. Shin is just extremely skilled at grasping at his very being and I’m in awe for how much it rings true to him all the time. Oh and don’t worry, the story is not incomplete anymore, it’s just he’s planning to write an epilogue!

The fucked up thing was that Rachel thought she had seen Puck at his worst moments but she hadn’t. She hadn’t even come close. As far as rock-bottom came for him? He hadn’t even hit close around her. Sure, he had been pretty bad around her but he knew he could get worse. He could always get worse. He just hadn’t gotten worse around her. He had managed to keep the worst of him at bay for most of the time he knew her. So she may have thought she knew what the worst of him was but she didn’t. Not even close. And that was why he didn’t want her to come- because he knew that she wouldn’t want to see him the way that he was. He didn’t really care for himself. It wouldn’t bother him to have her see how fucked up he was at the moment. And he was really, truly fucked up. He’d been wasted for what felt like forever. He’d been drunk and high and he was just out of it. He wasn’t in a place where she would want to take a look at him let alone try and talk to him. She had seen him drunk before but never quite like that. Not quite like that at all.

For a moment he looked around the room and wondered if he should clean up the place. It would be the polite thing to do but he didn’t care. He wasn’t interested in what was fucking polite. He hadn’t wanted her to come anyway so why would he waste his time trying to make the place look nice? It was a shit hotel room anyway. So he just sort of kicked the empty bottles and little baggies and shit under the table in the room and flopped back on the bed with his legs hanging over the edge, let his hands rest on his stomach and just looked at the ceiling. He was out of it to the point where he thought he was probably going to make no sense at all when Rachel actually got there but he didn’t care. He didn’t care that he was wasted beyond belief; he didn’t care that she would be able to tell he wasn’t just drunk. He didn’t care about much at that moment. If she wanted to believe there was more to him than met the eye then that was her problem. And he wasn’t going to be able to stop her. So he just laid there and waited for her.

The boys smoking is kinda... still a guilty pleasure of mine lol that’s one thing GWGE got away with that’s usually so difficult to justify (tho I suppose that one trans Kagami fic did in a way). Speaking of trans Kagami, that remains a concept that’s very near and dear to my heart, and one I’m definitely not done exploring yet!! I have things left to say and emotions left to project lmao.

Tbh I’m Stoked that the moment you took away from LWZ is Aomine getting shot. I stand by that scene to this day the build of tension is something I worked really hard to pull off, good shit. ...And I’ve been known to handle Himuro a number of ways in different fics but I’m glad what you have read is working for you ahaha ^^
