* As a Venus conjunct pluto, Im so jealous of my cousins w Venus trine Pluto. They can easily become popular and have women drawn to them without as much drama.

Mind you a lot of girls in our dorm thought he was attractive (he had pluto in 1st) and many talked about him😭 well my friend saw his gf on his page and obviously left it alone but his gf picked her out of all the girls who lusted after him to be threatened by. Well his gf was an early degree cancer Venus and my friend has a Gemini Venus at 19 degrees so her Venus was in my friends 1h. She was clearly bothered by my friend specifically following him because she found her to be attractive.

*since i mentioned the show another example of Venus-Neptune synastry could be Mason and Alex. All the art references, him hiding what he really was until he couldn’t, and the fears of cheating and deceit.

*a mix of Virgo, libra, and Leo can make someone the person who tries to help everyone. They will bring you food if you haven’t eaten and also lecture you but it’s coming from a good place. I think people forget how sweet Leo placements can be (ex: Bella hadid for someone who grew up w money she’s very humble and you can see this in multiple instances. For example sza thanked her for helping fix her hair at the met gala)

* she also have Venus conjunct ascendant which I think makes someone’s Venus traits stand out. I’ve noticed people w Venus square their ascendant don’t really openly express love for people and can even get called “cold” esp by family members.

*She also has Saturn in the 7th which could mean dating older partners or partners w cap placements. The Weeknd was older than her and he has a cap Venus + mars.

*certain placements can get away w a lot. Chris brown has a history of abuse yet women seem to still support him (moon conjunct Venus). He also has mars opposite Uranus which is a temper problem indicator

Because of Good Omens brain rot, I’ve been doing a Ninth/Tenth Doctor rewatch. And I was reminded of something I started to notice when I did my first ever rewatch.

The jokey attitude Rose has in the face of danger is a trait she shares with the Doctor, but it’s not something she picks up from him.

In Aliens of London/ World War III, Harriet chides her for making jokingly says something to the effect of how the Slitheen’s compression field works as a kind of weight loss program. This is the first time it’s ever been called out, but it’s not actually the first time she’s done it.

In the first episode, while the Doctor is explaining the living plastic she makes a wry comment about all of the breast implants coming to life. She’s only known the Doctor for a few hours at this point. It goes completely unremarked on, but it’s there.

She does it in the Empty Child when Jack catches her in his transmat beam. Her voice is literally shaking in this one, both from physical exertion and terror.

The thing is, I think it’s a coping mechanism. I think Rose has learned to bury her fear behind snarky remarks and jokes, one she probably picked up to deal with her life on the estates, to deal with being belittled, to deal with her abusive ex.

The first time I really came to this conclusion was while watching Tooth and Claw for the second time.

During the episode, Ten and Rose have this little bet running to see if she can get Queen Victoria to say her “we are not amused” line. Every time Rose does it, she is giggling.

Until she says it after the werewolf (this is a really strange episode even for DW…) attacks.

After taking a second to be relieved at being alive, her face kind of drops, her eyes widen and glaze over a little bit. The line “I bet you’re not amused” is rushed out of her mouth and significantly quieter than she was a minute ago. The delivery is uncharacteristically monotone until the little emphasis she puts on the end.

She does this weird almost-smile like she’s going to laugh even though she is patently not smiling. She does this small little head shake, her arms are tense.

It’s a really unsettling moment, and it was this performance by Billie Piper is what made me start thinking about this.

Queen Victoria yells at her, and Rose immediately apologizes, won’t even make eye contact with anyone. She curls in and turns away a bit.

This moment always bothered me and it took me a few watches to really articulate why.

Rose is scared.

I didn’t see it immediately because Rose displays fear in so many ways.

When she fears someone she cares about is going to leave her, (usually it’s the Doctor), Rose will lash out. This happens in Father’s Day, School Reunion, and Girl in the Fireplace. (The last one is so justified. She’s way more compassionate than I would’ve been at the end of that episode). She also does this Fear Her (when Nina Sosanya’s character continually refuses to watch her possessed daughter)

Other times, she’s able to turn her fear into action. She does this in her very first episode, the series 1 finale, the Cyberman two-parter, the Satan Pit two-parter, and earlier in Tooth and Claw.

Sometimes, she runs. In Christmas Invasion, she is facing a world-ending threat without the Doctor for the first time. She can’t do the heart of the Tardis trick again without ripping a hole in the universe.

Many times she’ll turn to the Doctor or her mother (who does her best but doesn’t always say the right thing)

But sometimes she makes a snarky comment or tells a joke to convince herself and maybe others that it will be okay.

She uses jokes for this specific reason to cheer up the Doctor in the Satan Pit.

Because Rose is compassionate. To Raffalo, to Gwenyth, to the Empty Child, to Jack. To Cassandra and Flora and Elton. She even tries to comfort Reinette, who is condescending towards her and who the Doctor repeatedly abandons her for because she regrets antagonizing Sarah Jane last episode. (I mean Sarah Jane was kind of mean too despite being a grown woman and Rose only being in her early twenties).

It’s the final confirmation the Doctor needs to realize she’s possessed on New Earth.

She will allow the Doctor to sacrifice her without question to save people and shows compassion to a Dalek both before she knows what it is and after it proves to be capable of changing.

She will drop everything for her mother despite whatever disagreements they have, will bend the universe to keep her father from dying alone.

She will literally sacrifice herself and stare into raw time to save the Doctor.

A lot of people think that Rose’s character in s2 is not as interesting. While that’s true, I think it’s more to do with the lack of interactions between her and Ten that aren’t about their romance. Nine and Rose have interactions that challenge each other’s morality. (Dalek, End of the World, Fathers Day, Unquiet Dead). On the rare occasions that Ten and Rose clash, it’s over jealousy brought on by Rose’s fear of being forgotten and Ten’s fear of committing, or feels like it’s in the shadow of his behavior with Reinette. Ironically, it’s their debate in Fear Her (a not great episode) that is one of the more interesting exchange of views that they have.

I wouldn’t completely agree that Rose loses her compassion in the second season. I think some of her more toxic pre-existing traits are just brought to the surface. And her protectiveness does become selfish.

But series 2 dumps a lot on Rose’s shoulders.

Ten’s weird hot and cold demeanor is probably emotionally taxing too. She has a lot of inferiority issues, probably because of how she’s been treated by her mother and others in her life. She frequently reiterates that she doesn’t matter. You can see how much it means to her when Nine earnestly admits she saved his life in response to her nervous teasing and posturing. And you can see how crushed she is when he calls her stupid in a moment of anger in Father’s day. (An event that is partially his fault because he didn’t explain the rules to Rose until afterwards) He immediately apologizes. (He does have that weird flirtation with Lynda but that is dropped just as abruptly as it starts).

The Tenth Doctor has this deeply frustrating set of episodes in series two where he is utterly awful to watch, and it’s after this that the relationship becomes the shallow, unhealthy, codependent one people remember. (I will expand on this in another post)

But it’s not even necessarily because of the Doctor that it’s hard for her. She says in Parting of the Ways that it wasn’t even the adventures she loved, it was him showing her a better way of life.

The adventures, the death, those are what wear her down the same way they wear down Ten.

She is, at one point, told by literal Satan that she is going to die imminently.

No matter how cheerful an episode begins, the loss always brings something melancholic out of Rose, but also someone desperate to hold onto the person she loves and carve out some sort of hope for a future. Impossible Planet does this really well with the little exchange about getting a mortgage. You can tell both of them find the idea appealing, or would if the Tardis was on call for the occasional weekend trip and weekly visit to Jackie. Because Ten likes Jackie, likes having a family.

Because deep down what these two want is each other and to rest. Not stop, they never could do that entirely. That’s why, I think TenToo works well in Empire of the Wolf (I don’t think it’s handled well in the actual show). Because they are still having new adventures with their daughter, just smaller ones.

So while Rose does have her flaws (selfishness, jealousy, a coping mechanism that is not always in the best taste). But she’s 19, she’s human. She’s allowed to and -as a character in a piece of media- should have flaws. I think they are what make a fundamentally brave and compassionate character feel like a real person. They make her more compelling.

(I want to do a later meta on Mickey, because Rose could’ve handled that better, but I also have issues with early Mickey. And it ties into some other stuff…so later meta.)

Hot take: I know a lot of people think Shallow Hal is problematic (body shaming, fat suit, etc) but we clearly know that’s not the point of the movie. The moral of the story is that it’s the inside that counts. Someone’s heart and personality is more important than their body. When you fall in love with someone for who they are, you don’t see the “flaws” that shallow people see and you love every part of them. That’s what this movie was trying to teach and putting Gwenyth Paltrow in a fat suit and showing people making fun of different bodies was the way they had to teach that.

Now, I got to thinking: how would Hal see me while he’s hypnotized? Like we all have flaws and I’m not trying to self sabotage or whatever but it’s just something interesting. Would I be thinner? Taller? No acne? I’d probably look like Gwenyth Paltrow I guess lol

The other thing is, how did he not know how big she was when hugging her or when they made love? Does the hypnosis also make her feel thinner to him? I just wanna know the science behind this lol did the writers just not think about that? How did his arms not be around an “invisible” space? Idk I feel like that would add some extra detail to the movie. It doesn’t matter, but I have so many thoughts about this movie that I’ve never talked about because of the controversy.

There are also HOT deleted scenes that should have been in the movie.

The Cadence scene was sad. I am SHOOK every time I see it. Like he even saw her without physical flaws and when he realizes she’s a burn victim AGH it just 😭 also interesting because I thought he only saw women as flawless so when we realize he also sees the girls as flawless I was like oh? So it’s not an attraction thing it’s just flawless in general? Is it only females or all people? SO many questions about this silly little movie WOW I’m autistic if you hadn’t noticed anyway

As a follow up to my favorite books of the first quarter of the year, here are some of my favorites from April, May, June! In no particular order, just in the order I read them.

The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty is a fun, pirate fantasy adventure featuring one of my recently realized favorite tropes: getting the band back together. A retired female pirate just wants to live a quiet life raising her young daughter, when she is recruited to rescue the child of a former crewmate. She must reunite with her old crew and save the day. Killer cover, fun story.

Chlorine by Jade Song is a coming of age body horror novel about a teenaged girl who will do anything to become a mermaid. Slow burn- you know what will happen from the beginning, but it's a deep dive into the mind of this queer young swimmer to watch her get there.

Malice by Keigo Higashino is a Japanese novel translated by Alexander O. Smith about a detective determined to uncover the motive behind the murder of a famous novelist. Loved this why-done-it.

We See Each Other: A Black, Trans Journey Through TV and Film by Tre'vell Anderson is a nonfiction exploration of Black trans representation in pop culture and history, as well as moments from the author's own life. Looks at everything To Wong Foo to Pose to Survivor.

Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones is the second book in the Indian Lake Trilogy. SGJ is my favorite horror author but his work and ESPECIALLY these books are not for everyone. People either love or hate this series and what can I say? I get it. Graphic here.

VenCo by Cherie Dimaline is about a young Indigenous woman who has to go on an adventure with her unusual and elderly grandmother after she discovers that she's one of seven witches to usher in a new era of power.

Madame Restell by Jennifer Wright is a nonfiction book about a famous abortionist in pre-Gilded Age New York. I found it fascinating, if not incredibly depressing, with how much we recycle the same arguments over and over again. Great read. Trigger warnings for this one, from childbirth to abortion to racism to misogyny.

Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati is a Greek mythology retelling on the titular murderer. As a Clytemnestra apologist, I really liked this. I kind of think so many of Greek retellings these days are all very similar, in writing style & theme so I feel like if you've read one of these recent retellings you've read them all, but I liked it!

Hamra & the Jungle of Memories by Hanna Alkaf is a Little Red Riding Hood retelling set in modern Malaysia, where a girl in a red hijab must help a tiger return to his human form. Really a beautiful story about humanity, grief, and what it means to make mistakes. Also just a fun adventure. Loved it. Graphic here.

You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron is another final girl horror novel. Look, I'm gonna read all of them and I'm gonna love all of them! You give me a final girl and I'm gonna eat it up. You give me a queer Black final girl trying to survive the night at her camp recreating a famous (fictional) horror movie while trying to protect her girlfriend? Yum, yum, yum.

Honorable mentions: Ayoade on Top is Richard Ayoade's definitive tome on the Gwenyth Paltrow film View From the Top. Get the audiobook for this one for sure! The Three Dahlias is a fun cozy mystery, and Saint Juniper's Folly is a fun queer modern fantasy adventure.

i have returned from my weekend pub crawl with more unhinged thoughts about the aftermath of the parting of the ways.

obviously the insane & incredibly sudden loss of nine & seeing the man she loves change physically into someone who looks completely different occupied a lot of rose's time but once that had settled i have always wondered if there was in fact a moment in which rose noticed that the tardis seemed quieter than it was before, if, like the doctor in ‘the runaway bride’ she saw clothes jack had left around the place because of course he was planning to come back, he was never supposed to go anywhere & if wonder if rose ever felt that loss because obviously, the three of them were so close (i could be biased as i am a firm believer doctorjackrose) so i have always wondered if, one day rose just quietly went to the doctor & asked him about what happened to jack on satellite 5 & if they can go back & get him, but i think that the doctor told her that jack had stayed behind to help rebuild society after the events on satellite 5 & that he never told rose that jack had actually died (obviously he didn’t tell her the rest because of the journey's end reaction rose had to jack's extermination) also because i do genuinely think that the doctor felt awful about leaving jack or at least the part of him that was nine felt bad about it because i do absolutely believe that rose would not have stood for just abandoning jack, that she would have been furious about it because she had really cared for jack & that she wouldn’t have accepted the doctor's reasoning or even understood it because of how close the three of them had been. i genuinely think we were robbed of seeing rose face the genuine horror of what had happened to jack, her friend, after what had happened on satellite 5 & i actually would have liked to have seen a conversation about it between rose, jack & ten during journey's end because then there's the fact that jack had thought she was dead for awhile & he'd obviously loved them both which is why i've come to realise how bittersweet but also how wonderful it must have been for jack as the face of boe to see rose & nine, the doctor that had loved him, again at the end of the earth.

i also think that whilst the doctor should be kept as far away from as the torchwood three team as possible, rose would have loved to meet the people that had become jack's family. she would have been so happy for him that he had found ianto, despite being a little bit startled by her appearance due to gwenyth, she'd have gotten on well with gwen & had they have been alive, rose probably would have liked tosh & owen as well & considering how welcoming & how they treated martha like a queen when she came to visit, the torchwood team would have liked rose as well!

911 Lone Star Rewatch: 1x09

Wow, I'm actually getting caught up! Everyone should be very proud of me!

Alright let's get this show on the road. Time to wrap up season 1 with these next two eps.

I do want to start this off by saying that I had a dream about lone star last night. Like not a dream that involved lone star characters or anything, but like a dream that I was watching lone star. Anyone know what stage of hyperfixation that is?

The 126 and I are of the same opinion regarding gender reveal parties.

Captain Judd!! The first captain Judd episode wow.

Oh wow, baby TK with his little firetruck. So is the insinuation that Owen gave the truck to TK for his birthday present and he like just opened it after Owen got there late? And he and Gwyn are fighting in the other room now about him missing the birthday. Honestly, I feel very bad for all three of them in this scenario. Like they all went through a major trauma--obviously Owen had a much more up close encounter with it--but they are all still very much recovering from it in December of that year.

Also I'm upset about the fact that this should cannot decide how Gwyn's name is spelled. My closed captions for this ep have it as Gwenyth. But later episodes have it as Gwyneth. I'm pretty positive Gwyneth is the correct one.

"Come meet my boy". Kill me. God Owen and TK's relationship destroys me. And I also love that he tells Zoe that TK looks more like his mother. Cuz he definitely, definitely looks like Owen. Like he does also look like Gwyn, but he's certainly Owen's spitting image. So I love that Owen says he looks more like Gwyn because of course that's who he would see in him. He wouldn't see himself, he would see the woman he loved(s).

TK asking so earnestly if Zoe is his doctor is just so good. "You brought a date?"

TYLER KENNEDY STRAND. "oh that poor kid" SIR. STOP. YOU ARE DESTROYING ME WITH YOUR BIG GENTLE HEART.

Also love that as soon as his initial questions are answered, TK immediately wants the details about 'hot babe' Zoe.

Also I definitely think that after Owen asks him about the cop, they do indeed have a conversation about it. Because in episode 10 when Carlos comes to the firehouse, Owen makes that comment about 'how many decisions did you make today'. So I think he was very aware of TK not being sure about things with Carlos before then.

It's funny that Marj is shocked by the idea of TK coming back so soon after being shot. But then of course after she gets shot in season 4, she's back like immediately.

Oh wow I forgot that we meet Judd's dad this season!! For some reason I didn't think it was until season 2!

Okay but Owen is right, TK did look uncomfortable on that couch.

Oh noooooooo. Not the cave call. Getting stuck in a cave is like at the top of my fear list. I would literally never go spelunking. I would have a panic attack as soon as things starting getting narrow.

I FORGOT THIS KID'S NAME IS KEITHAN. I apologize to any keithan's and loved ones of keithan's, but that's gotta be the dumbest name I've ever heard. Why do we need to Frankenstein Keith and Ethan together like that. (I just looked it up and 6 million people named their baby Keithan in 2023... why)

How many siblings does Judd have? I feel like he's said a number before... but I can't remember. I know that he's the youngest. Does he have three brothers? Or is he one of three?

Poor Paul. Just wanting to help and getting torn to shreds by that little boy. I love that this is the story that he tells Asha on their date.

TK calling Zoe is just so silly on his part. Like he's at home, spiraling, and he just decides to email Zoe's university email. Which is objectively hilarious. Like "my dad's new girlfriend is a psych prof. she will know the answers."

SEX SELLS: TOM FORD’S GUCCI

When considering Tom Ford's tenure at Gucci, one is immediately reminded of the slick, sexy, and sinful silhouettes that defined every collection. In the words of American Vogue, Ford's designs are "the fashion equivalent of a one-night stand at Studio 54", perfectly capturing the designer’s hedonistically glamorous aesthetic. When Ford became Gucci's creative director in '94, sales were low, but the designer managed to guide the Florentine company out of this tumultuous time and into a position of eternal glory.

Despite his daring collections, the American designer played it safe with his first show—models wore sweet colours and schoolgirl-esque skirts sticking to Maurizio Gucci’s style. Ford himself told The Cut: “it wasn’t a bad show. It just wasn’t anything”. Tom Ford was so discouraged that he was ready to walk away but thank goodness he didn't quit because the Tom Ford we all love and remember emerged one year later with his Fall 95 collection. This show was everything that his first show wasn’t. Iconic models such as Kate Moss and Shalom Harlow wore unbuttoned satin shirts and cleavage-revealing dresses leaving little to the imagination. The refreshing designs indicated a seductive shift for the brand.

One of the most memorable items from the Tom Ford era was the red velvet suit which was seen in the A/W 1996 collection. Gwenyth Paltrow wore the iconic ensemble to the MTV Awards, which- according to Alessandro Michele- “made her famous”. The red suit has recently had a resurgence as it was seen in the ‘Aria’ show which celebrated Gucci’s 100th birthday. Also, the monochromatic masterpiece made a surprise appearance in Tom Ford’s Fall 2019 collection.

Whoever said sex sells wasn’t lying. Could Gucci’s raunchy campaigns be part of the reason why the brand saw an increase in sales? The Gucci campaigns pushed the boundaries between pornography and art. Arguably, the most iconic and controversial campaign was photographed by Mario Testino and featured top model Carmen Kass with Gucci’s ‘G’ logo shaved into her pubic hair. This advert was so scandalous that the British Advertising Standards Authority investigated the ad after receiving 16 complaints. Luckily, the advert wasn’t banned as the BASA accepted Gucci’s excuse: (Gucci is) "known for brand leadership and cutting-edge imagery" and that the ad was "intended to be the ultimate ironic pun for a sexy brand in a logo-led age".

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

i think it’d probably either have to be the short snippet of the sewis fic i wrote recently about the winner’s room trope that i hope to one day expand on when i have the time and the brain power! i’m quite proud of this one for once actually. or my ferwis/not ferwis/sewis mind game not mind game fic. that was v fun to write. esp bc i wrote it in like thirty minutes sitting in the sun after one of the worst exams of my life which sums my writing style up i think lol

both of these focus on the characters and their dynamics more than anything else. while the winner’s room fic has more of a Traditional Story to it than the ferwis one, it still heavily relies on the people and how they interact with each other which is what i feel like i am best at. they also both have an undercurrent of a story that you aren’t being told but see glimpses of which i love to read and then obv love to write!

17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?

to the surprise of probably no one lmao, i would Love a hitchhiker who is a serial killer gets into the Wrong (but actually v Right) car that another serial killer is driving and they become death dealing besties. it would be v funny to me personally and if done right v interesting to read! (personally i would pick either sewis or sebcedes! or hunt/lauda if one was feeling adventurous. and i would not say no to a chalex version of this)

i would also personally kill for someone to write a sewis easy a au. it would be wonderful and stupid and so so entertaining
