ITS GUMI!!!!!<3 I took a detour and drew an internet co. voca instead of continuing the cryptonloids simply because I knew I wanted to see gumi in a full Bharatanatyam costume. She is currently the only one in a classical dance specific outfit, as compared to the others being more general purpose outfits.
I was worried her colour scheme would make her look like a mascot for Mother India, but thankfully it’s not that striking. As someone who has done Bharatanatyam myself for quite a while, I tried to remember as many details as possible from my own costume, albeit pink and gold, so that I could add it to this design.
The surya chandra (sun–moon, of which you can only see the sun on her head) has been made to resemble the red goggles she wears in her original design, and made it like a hairband instead. I decided to keep her hair similar to the original, but added a long braid with flowers and the kunjalam (kun–ya–lam) tied to the bottom, because I know her dance teacher would be on her ass if she cut her hair too short to be unable to at least tie extensions to (been there done that 👍🏼). I made sure to remember to add the aaltha on her palms and feet, and the ghungroo on her ankles because I actually almost forgot😭. This piece, even if kinda simple, reminds me of the few times I performed on stage myself, and it was stressful, but good times.
