#: "Wait, no, don't take kissing privileges away from me."

“You have to stop throwing yourself into these dangerous battles, darling.” You said, wrapping up the captain's arm. The Black Pearl had gotten into a useless battle that had no outcome for either side with the British Royal Navy. Jack sipped on a bottle of rum, not responding to you. Faint waves crashed outside of the Captain’s cabin, that being the only source of noise throughout the entire ship. Everyone knew that the battle that just ensued was worthless. Half of the crew got injured, and you were one of the few untouched. 

Jack had gotten a nasty stab in the arm, and you could already see the blood seeping through the white cloth that you had just wrapped. Muttering a few words underneath your breath, you looked at your lovers’ face. Jack’s face was blank with emotion, which was a sight you almost never saw. 

“Darling, you know that battle was worth nothing. I know you have a thing out for the Navy, but think about how many people got hurt during that. There was no gain, only loss.” You took the bottle of rum away from Jack, unwrapping his arm and pouring a bit on his wound. A pained expression turned onto his face, him giving you a confused look. “Had to clean it.” You said, setting the bottle of rum away from him. “I’m not gonna let you drink away your sorrows and guilt in rum either.” You mumbled, cleaning the wound again, wrapping it. The Pearl didn’t need a captain with an infected wound. 

Jack once again, just went back to staring at the wall. This was just getting annoying by now. “Until you stop pouting, and talk to me like a human being and go back to being Jack Sparrow,” You paused, gathering up your few things that you had in the Captain’s cabin. “I’ll be sleeping in my old hammock, and there will be no affection. No kisses, no hugs, not even a brush of a hand.” You said, heading for the door. “Also, no rum.” Holding his bottle of rum, and the key to the rum cellar in your hands you walked out. 

Jack’s head finally looked at the door, huffing like a small child. “This isn’t fair…” He whined like a small child, flopping back onto his bed. The pirate knew it wasn’t the right thing to sail his crew into battles, but the Navy had been taunting him for a while now and he just needed to finally get his anger out of them. Multiple of their men had either died, or gotten heavily injured though. It may seem there had been no good outcome at all, but to Jack there was. He killed a few of their men. 

In most situations, he was happy to just verbally settle things. Most situations. Jack finally sat up on his bed, wincing from the pain in his arm. Getting to his feet, he walked over to his charts and opened his compass. It just spun in circles, not giving him a heading at all. 

He slammed the darn thing closed, walking out of the cabin. He looked over at the edge of the ship, watching the crashing waves for a moment. The waves were rather calm, and there was a nice breeze. The Pearl was just going in a random direction, somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. 

The Captain finally took a deep breath, heading down to where the crew’s hammocks were. Looking around the dark room, he pulled out his compass. It landed directly to where you were laying, half asleep. 

“Luv, wake up.” He gently shook you awake, watching your eyes flutter open. You stood up out of your hammock, crossing your arms. It was easy to tell that you were annoyed at the Captain, but rather everyone was on the ship currently. Even the monkey that refused to leave. 

“Let’s go talk, not here.” Jack went to grab your hand, but you stepped away from him. There was a flash of hurt in his eyes, but sighed and walked away. You followed behind him, willing to see what he wanted to say to you. Once you were up on deck, away from everyone else, Jack immediately turned to you. 

“Please, luv, please forgive me. I know that was a useless battle.” He said, a pleading look on his face. 

“I’m not the one you should be apologizing to. I’m not injured, Captain.” You said, crossing your arms. “I know, I know you're not injured, but ye said.. That no kisses. I’m not sure if I could live without those or ye might as well send me off to the Kracken again.” 

It was a bit funny, watching the proud Jack Sparrow plead to you. Something that you never thought you would see. “Go apologize, to all that were injured in that battle you put us through.” You grabbed his chin, looking directly into his eyes. “I can assure you, the whole crew would like that. None of us are leaving your command, but they could if they really wanted to.” Jack just nodded, stepping away and back down into the crew’s cabin. 

You sat down on the steps of the ship, looking up at the sky. After a few minutes, but what felt like forever, your lover came back onto deck. 

“Did they accept your apology?” You asked, looking up at the Captain. He just nodded, seeming relieved it was over. “They be goin’ to use that against me, forever.” He said, sitting down next to you. 

“Since, I got put the torture of that,I believe that I be getting kissin’ privileges back.” Jack said, wrapping his none injured arm around you. “I suppose so.” You said, placing a soft kiss on his lips.

        it’s not talked about enough that once Beckett has secured Governor Swann as a puppet to essentially control Port Royal as he does by AWE, he enacts several decrees that remove the right to habeas corpus ( essentially unlawful or indefinite imprisonment ), the right to legal counsel ( so accused pirates are not entitled to a defence lawyer or barrister ) and the right to a verdict by a jury of peers, essentially robbing any accused person ( or person associated with someone already convicted of piracy ) of a fair trial by jury, meaning that an appointed ( and likely puppet ) judge probably passes judgement on the accused in an effectual sham trial. this is how we end up with the infamous opening scene of the movie where pirates and their associates are being hanged en masse

       this also means that at the end of CotBP when these fundamental principles of justice were still in effect in Port Royal, Jack and the formerly cursed crew of Barbossa’s would have to be tried for piracy before they’d even end up at the gallows. and I know it would have slowed the pace of the movie down, but I really wish we’d seen Jack’s trial

You travelled with Elizabeth to Tortuga to find Jack a new crew.

As you entered the faithful bride, you spotted a certain British, ex-naval officer.

You couldn't tell at first but his wig was in a mess and he had a filthier face.

You wore a pair of breeches and a long coat with buckled, flat shoes.

He was drinking heavily and started muttering to himself.

You approached him with a smile, you hadn't seen the commodore since his departure from Port Royal.

"Admiral" you smiled.

The commodore looked up but, he seemed different, not like the proud man he once was.

"Oh, bloody hell, it's you" he slurred in an aggressive tone.

"Come to mock me have you, go on, speak your petty mind about how I couldn't capture a pirate" he slurred again.

You were confused "what, admiral, it's me, it's y/n, your friend".

"I have no bloody friend, I haven't got but one who deems themselves to like me" he argued.

You were shocked that he was behaving like an ungentlemanly man.

"Elizabeth's here James" you spoke.

"Elizabeth?" He perked up "why in the hell would she be in a pigsty like this, she's probably living in a happily ever after with Mr Turner".

"We're looking for a crew for Jack Sparrow" you placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Sparrow, as in Jack Sparrow," his expression soon turned to one of madness.

Suddenly he stood up and shouted, "Captain Jack Sparrow, the man who's ruined my life, came here to bid his greetings to an old friend".

"Come here and form an orderly line, so I can take you on, one by one" he commanded drunkenly as if he were still the admiral.

"Come on, who wants some!" he held his fists in the air.

Elizabeth looked up and saw James, she thought to herself "oh James, what has the world done to you".

The admiral started punching and beating the other sailors and pirates.

They all ganged on him until Elizabeth smacked him over the head with a rum bottle.

He was knocked out and then hoisted into the muddy pig pen.

Y/n felt sorry for him and placed a hand on his back "I've never forgotten you".

He looked up as his expression turned softly, feeling guilty you were the one person who stood by him.

James being drunk would be rather ugly; as in he would be angry and slightly emotional.

He may be the opposite of what he has been but with y/n, he may feel guilty of leaving you and ashamed you saw him in that state.

As long as you guide him and have a strong mind; not minding some insults thrown at you.

He'll be sober and feel apologetic since he never had a true person who cared for him.

Holidays!!!

Josh;

We all know how bright and eye-catching Josh is so based off if that he is definitely New Years Eve (or pretty much anything with fireworks but New Years specifically). Josh is definitely the type of person to invite his whole family and his friends over on New Years and just party and get drunk with them. He’s such a loud and life living type of person I just think that he plans huge parties for New Years. He also thinks so positively about New Years thinking about how there is so much that he can do and that he can be around people he loves and cares about, including his fans. Josh is also the type of person to kiss you right when the ball drops and tell you how much he can’t wait to spend the new year with you. He would be cheering and running around the house hugging everyone letting them know how much he loves them. He would definitely take this holiday as a chance to give people presents (even though Christmas just passed but thats okay) and the chance for him to tell people how much he cares and loves them.

Jake;

Jake gives off huge Halloween vibes. He would love to buy bags and bags of candy to eat and hand out to kids around the neighborhood while he’s watching a horror or halloween themed movie like Hocus Pocus! I feel like his favorite halloween movie would probably be something like Corpse Bride or maybe even Friday the Thirteenth. Jake’s personality is very quiet but loud at the same time (if that makes sense?) and he is pretty chill which in my mind resonates with Halloween a lot. He also reminds me of black cats and he would love to do pumpkin carving one night sometime before Halloween. Jake is definitely one of those type of people to buy those fake skeletons and dress it up and put it on the porch of the house just to be funny. He also would want to dress up as a pirate (AKA Jack Sparrow), a knight, a cowboy, or even Oliver Reed! I feel like if you asked him to do a couples costume he’d say he wouldn’t really want to but says yes because he loves you but when you guys are actually getting the costume and dressing up, he’s super passionate about it and gets into character.

Sammy;

Sammy is super romantic and sweet which makes me think he’d be Valentines Day. When Valentines comes around, he would go all out with it like giving you silly gifts or taking you out to a super fancy restaurant and buying you your favorite treats! He would definitely add in some fun activities to do throughout the day and would spend so much money on you just because he thinks so highly of you. He is such a kind and loving person that you can’t help but smile because of him! He would take everything super serious on Valentines like he would have a whole day planned out just for you too. I think that he would attempt to make cookies or cupcakes or something like that and ultimately fail (almost burning down the house in the process) and he would go to the store and say he baked them himself but you know damn well he’s just trying to impress you but it’s still a cute act of kindness from him that you can’t help but smile.

Danny;

Danny is definitely Christmas. He is such a warm person so to be with him during winter and Christmas sounds so comforting. He would love to do all the things they do in the Hallmark Christmas romance movies (as well as binge watch them) and to be honest I would live for that cus that’s one of my guilty pleasures. But Danny would make you hot cocoa, take you ice skating, and play in the snow with him and whenever you get cold he would give you one of his warm sweaters. The way that he would buy ornaments that reminded him of you and tell you all about it as you two put them on the Frasier fir tree you have in your living room. The presents he would get you would be stuff like records you want, jewelry that has your guy’s initials, and even something as cute as a mini card he made just for you. The way he would be so proud and happy when you see the presents and light up is so unreal. He would honestly be the best person to spend Christmas with and no one can tell me otherwise.

Could you possible do a Barbossa X reader who is super optimistic and will like ✨cutley✨ giggle and smile all the time (basically grumpy x sunshine) no one really knows why the hell she married him but she did 😭 but just like loving fluff (you can change things up if you want!!!) tysm i am down bad for ur writing

You had met Barbossa through Jack Sparrow, who happened to have seemed to be the only friend you had at the beginning of the story… your story.

The truth was you weren’t officially made to be part of Jack’s crew and you honestly didn’t have the desire to be recruited properly you might have wanted because it would more then likely bring you trouble rather then the most daring adventures.

Jack Sparrow describes you to be a careful person who avoided trouble or just any problems in general, and he knew that was why you were reconsidering his offer to come along and explore the seas. Looking back, that’s how it really all started, you remember almost rejecting Jack Sparrow’s offer to come along for the ride to avoid running into any kind of trouble. The worst case scenario you thought would be if you got captured and convicted guilty to false involvement in piracy which would only end with you having the only choice to face the gallows and that’s what you were afraid of. The second you mentioned this to Jack, he immediately got to work on reassuring you that it would be safe indeed. Jack reassures that if you stick with him, he would make damn sure that he wouldn’t let any of that happen to you and it was a challenge for him to finally convince you to eventually agree.

But you stop once more with a final question before parting together.

“What if I do get put into that?”

“I’ll come to your rescue. I wouldn’t let you get in trouble for nothing.”

Every time when you have that thought in mind, you can’t help but feel exceedingly grateful with the choice you have made to trust Jack.

Taking the risk of an adventure ahead of you. If you hadn’t taken that chance, you may not be where you’re currently are right now. You’ve wondered if you wouldn’t be with the man you love now. It all started with a dispute at the well known bar on Tortuga, you and Jack had stopped by for a break from sailing the seas and for him to tell you he had to meet up with someone already in waiting for the arrival. When you first walk inside, you were the first person that Barbossa locks eyes on without you ever realizing it. As Jack finally spotted Barbossa sitting at an empty table, you follow behind before Jack stops and asks that you be the one to collect the drinks you were both there for. Jack was there to exchange a deal for a better one and that was Barbossa’s purpose as well for being there.

As Barbossa had already fallen for you, it was difficult for him to focus on the task taking place, with him looking over your way without any acknowledgment. Heading back over, this is where you both first meet each other and it was love at first sight. You may not have known right on but after what happens next, you recognized the feelings forming within while facing this man. Barbossa couldn’t help but feel the wanting to get to know you, but this meet up is important to both pirates and it was kept as their top priority. While the meeting was becoming more of a drag the longer you remained, you nearly missed the fact that your drink is already gone and had gone to go refill it.

You informed Jack and promised to be quick. Jack agrees.

“Okay, be careful.”

You nod as if to say ‘yes’ before hopping back over to the counter and requesting the bar tender for a refill.

It hadn’t been that long since you left, commotion had unexpectedly come about and you were caught in the middle of it. What happened was that as you got up to the counter, another customer was waiting for his order. The man ordered before you and when the bar tender took you in first, the customer got offended and started a struggle. Barbossa saw as the strange man now was going after your neck and that’s when Barbossa stepped in to save you, with Jack Sparrow right behind him. Barbossa steps in front of you just in the nick of time while Jack takes your hand to exit safely outside the bar. When everyone had the time to process what just took place, Barbossa turns towards you, examining you for any possible injuries, wanting to make sure you had come out unscathed.

He lets out a sigh when you seemed to be okay, other then a little shook up.

“You okay, lass?”

Still in the shock of the moment, you could only nod in short response.

Despite of having been shook up of the incident, you were trying to find the proper words of thanks, none would come to mind. So instead, you showed your thanks to a man whom at the time, didn’t even know by an unexpected hug. You felt Barbossa stiffen a little, but relaxed as he returns the hug. You’ve been together ever since, from that day forward and you were both now happily married to each other. For most people, you stood out to be the most unlikely couple due to the fact that you hardly have anything in common. In their eyes, you were the complete opposite of each other as they didn’t understand your love for each other was real.

Love was what you had in common and that’s what they’re missing. Elizabeth Swann was the first to ask you about it not long after finding out you were together in person, and in turn, you happily responded.

“What is it that you see in him, (Y/n)?”

“My only one… my one and only.”

The talk of the towns were no different once the people would eventually learn the truth of this topic.

Some were more harsh about it then others, but you just simply avoid that and continued to enjoy each other. Whispers could be heard at times, everyone pointed out everything to try and put the pieces together. They’d look to see if they have missed anything you shared in common, but they didn’t and eventually would give up trying to make sense of it. Judgement never mattered to you, all that mattered was you were both happy and in love. Though most of the time you are sunshine and rainbows while Barbossa was grumpy and a little grouchy. Especially in the mornings. Although Barbossa could be a grouch, or a pain, he wanted nothing more then to be the one who makes you happy all times. He has made it his life’s mission to always make sure you were happy, and he would do it through sincerity and absolute true love.

Sometimes true love just really blossoms between the two who have the least bit in common if none at all… it just works. You’re both madly in love and nothing can or ever will change that.

Barbossa wouldn’t have it any other way, and neither would you.

He was the one, you’re only one.

Hi again! I also thought another idea for Davy Jones (I don’t really see much people posting about him), how about 42 and 22 from your prompts list? In which Davy have feelings for reader and wants her to stay with him, so he makes her go into missions (like searching or looking for his heart or anything) and when she finishes, he doesn’t have anything to request so he gets kind of desperate bc thinks that she’s gonna go away? But reader actually has fallen for him too and is not really planning on leaving him?

If you wanted to know the truth, the truth was you were unaware of Davy Jones having feelings for you and that you were unaware of the fact that you were the only crew mate he deeply cared about above all.

In the beginning, Davy didn’t know how to react to these feelings or how to really accept them for that matter. He hasn’t felt this way for anyone since the disaster made with Calypso when she crushed him. A lot of the time, Davy kept his eyes on you while having to deal with the difficult task of accepting these feelings. Davy was on edge of the fact of not knowing at all how you felt about him, in any way in the making.

Quite a number of times did Davy Jones caught himself wondering how he could get you close to him and that’s when he started taking you on missions with him in search of his heart, getting there to it before anyone else can get there hands on it. During that time, you had discovered your own feelings for Davy, but you kept silent for the same reasons. How you ended up on the Dutchman was an answer anyone could guess, but if they really did want to know, it starts as having you used to be on Jack Sparrow’s crew while living on the Black Pearl.

You weren’t dead, you were still human and that’s what confused the crew. As said before, you used to be a part of Jack’s crew before Jack Sparrow sent you off and sold you out as a trade for a debt free life through Davy Jones. The trade has hurt you lot, thinking that Jack Sparrow was your friend and you could trust him, going through all of that just to prove where you are wrong. Surprisingly, you didn’t have to endure the inhuman punishments Davy settled on his crew who clearly don’t deserve any of that. No one does for that matter, but Davy Jones wouldn’t give it a second thought to be more fair in using a different method than anything like you’ve seen happen every day on that ship. While not having to endure any of the same sufferings, you were fine with that. However, you felt guilty to be the only one spared from that pain. The best way to describe the way you were feeling was it being almost like survivors guilt. Others haven’t just been as lucky as you.

On the Dutchman, date was kinder to you much to your surprise. When you started going on missions with Davy, it was around three years now since your trade. As you rise out of the salty waters the island in sight, you caught onto the sight of two men witnessing as they scurry off with the chest. With Davy still unable to step on land, he sent you off with the rest of them as he stood behind with Maccus, waiting until you had returned. Which you do return with the chest under your arm while climbing back onboard the Dutchman, and Maccus was the one who pointed you out since Davy had his back turn towards you. The second Davy sees what you have, you hand it over to him as he approaches you. Davy Jones doesn’t say anything while taking it, you watch as he sets it down before going to wake the kraken shortly after sailing past the Black Pearl.

Davy was still thirsty for a war, a war he very much wanted to win. After everything had gone down, Davy demands for the chest to be opened. They open the chest, only to find it empty with nothing inside, Davy’s heard was in the hands of someone else. To see that it was no longer there, Davy was eager now to find out what happened and who took it, it couldn’t be Jack Sparrow. It couldn’t be Will Turner. Ever since discovering the heart was missing, Davy had not been doing so well the next few days and you hated seeing him like this. So you go and try to find him, even know trying to talk through it could lead into a not so friendly conversation. Of course, he tries to deny you entry, to shoo you away and shut you out, but you were being stubborn and won this round. Davy lets you in and you both talk about it, trying to get useful ideas that could really help to solve this case.

“We’ll find it again,” you say trying to encourage him not to give up.

Though this didn’t seem to help at all, Davy couldn’t understand you at times and this was one of those times.

“How can you be so uplifting?” Davy growls, causing you to nearly laugh a little.

“We need to stay positive about the situation, I’ll help you through this, you’re not alone I can promise you that. Staying positive is the only way we’re going to get through this.”

Davy Jones wasn’t going to try and push you away this time, instead, he kept you close to his side. Being as close to Davy as you are now only made your feelings for him stronger.

Being this close to him made you feel safe and secure, and you haven’t been so sure about anyone else in your life. It was easy to tell Davy Jones has yet to fully warm up to you. He has been warming up little by little, but not yet completely. The following days, you couldn’t stand seeing Davy this way, with you wanting to help locate his heart, you went back to where the chest still sits, making sure Davy wasn’t in sight. Thinking you’re home free, you go ahead and open it while hoping you could find a clue or two of some kind. However, when you open it, you don’t only see that it was empty, but it contained letters you had missed seeing the first opening. While you still believed Davy wasn’t around, that’s where you’re wrong, he just remained silent while think he was going to lose you to those old letters. Davy feared that if you read those letters, you were going to walk away from him and give him another heartbreak. Just after opening the first letter, you immediately see that this letter was for Calypso from Davy. It was a letter that was meant to be sent but never had been after these years.

As he continued to fear of you leaving, he doesn’t understand that all it would take for you to walk away from him was if he didn’t have anything to request. One way or the other, you really never planned on leaving him or the crew. It was the only life you known now, and you didn’t want to start fresh all over again. My hypothesis!

The difference between a knight, a cowboy, and a pirate is in their loyalties.

A knight is loyal to his kingdom.

A pirate is loyal to himself.

And a coyboy is loyal to a way of life.

The knight is obvious. He works in a group, lives together with his people and within his kingdom. He serves the throne to protect his home. Ex: pick nearly any of the knights of camelot (re: bbc merlin lol) specifically Percival.

The other two were more difficult bcz in my head i characterize them both as loners - despite a pirate usually having a crew. The pirate will do what he has to to benefit himself, his riches, his boat. Ex: Jack Sparrow (occasionally he will feel guilty enough to do smth to save his crew) [im so sorry i havent seen our flag means death and im guessing they would break my theory]

A cowboy is lonely by design but he doesnt work for himself he follows a specific lifestyle that prioritizes his livestock and his horse and yet also individualism that keeps him from settling down. Ex: the Mandalorian, he is alone despite having a people that would accept him and he follows strictly to a preset way of living. This would apply to all the old classic cowboys too I imagine.

"Why did Depp, who had already lost a similar case in Britain, insist on going back to court? Even before the verdict came in, Depp had already won. What had looked to many like a clear-cut case of domestic violence had devolved into a “both sides” melodrama. The fact that Heard’s partial victory, which involved not Depp’s words but those spoken in 2020 by Adam Waldman, his lawyer at the time, can be spun in that direction shows how such ambiguity served Depp all along. As one commenter on The New York Times site put it, “Every relationship has its troubles.” Life is complicated. Maybe they were both abusive. Who really knows what happened? The convention of courtroom journalism is to make a scruple of indeterminacy. And so we found ourselves in the familiar land of he said/she said.

We should know by now that the symmetry implied by that phrase is an ideological fiction, that women who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault have a much harder time being listened to than their assailants. I don’t mean that women always tell the truth, that men are always guilty as charged, or that due process isn’t the bedrock of justice. But Depp-Heard wasn’t a criminal trial; it was a civil action intended to measure the reputational harm each one claimed the other had done. Which means that it rested less on facts than on sympathies.

In that regard, Depp possessed distinct advantages. He isn’t a better actor than Heard, but her conduct on the stand was more harshly criticized in no small part because he’s a more familiar performer, a bigger star who has dwelled for much longer in the glow of public approbation. He brought with him into the courtroom the well-known characters he has played, a virtual entourage of lovable rogues, misunderstood artists and gonzo rebels. He’s Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, Hunter S. Thompson, Gilbert Grape.

We’ve seen him mischievous and mercurial, but never truly menacing. He’s someone we’ve watched grow up, from juvenile heartthrob on “21 Jump Street” to crusty old salt in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. His offscreen peccadilloes (the drinking, the drugs, the “Winona Forever” tattoo) have been part of the pop-cultural background noise for much of that time, classified along with the scandals and shenanigans that have been a Hollywood sideshow since the silent era.

In his testimony, Depp copped to some bad stuff, but this too was a play for sympathy, of a piece with the charm and courtliness he was at pains to display. That he came off as a guy unable to control his temper or his appetites was seen, by many of the most vocal social media users, to enhance his credibility, while Heard’s every tear or gesture was taken to undermine hers. The audience was primed to accept him as flawed, vulnerable, human, and to view her as monstrous.

Because he’s a man. Celebrity and masculinity confer mutually reinforcing advantages. Famous men — athletes, actors, musicians, politicians — get to be that way partly because they represent what other men aspire to be. Defending their prerogatives is a way of protecting, and asserting, our own. We want them to be bad boys, to break the rules and get away with it. Their seigneurial right to sexual gratification is something the rest of us might resent, envy or disapprove of, but we rarely challenge it. These guys are cool. They do what they want, including to women. Anyone who objects is guilty of wokeness, or gender treason, or actual malice.

Of course there are exceptions. In the #MeToo era there are men who have gone to jail, lost their jobs or suffered disgrace because of the way they’ve treated women. The fall of certain prominent men — Harvey Weinstein, Leslie Moonves, Matt Lauer — was often welcomed as a sign that a status quo that sheltered, enabled and celebrated predators, rapists and harassers was at last changing.

A few years later, it seems more likely that they were sacrificed not to end that system of entitlement but rather to preserve it. Almost as soon as the supposed reckoning began there were complaints that it had gone too far, that nuances were being neglected and too-harsh punishments meted out.

This backlash has been folded into a larger discourse about “cancel culture,” which is often less about actions than words. “Cancellation” is now synonymous with any criticism that invokes racial insensitivity, sexual misbehavior or controversial opinions. Creeps are treated as martyrs, and every loudmouth is a free-speech warrior. Famous men with lucrative sinecures on cable news, streaming platforms and legacy print publications can proclaim themselves victims.

Which is just what Depp did. And while he accused Heard of doing terrible things to him in the course of their relationship and breakup, the lawsuit wasn’t about those things. It was about words published under her name, none of which were “Johnny Depp.” In a sentence the jury found false and malicious, after describing herself as “representing domestic abuse” Heard wrote that she “felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.” This time she surely has.

Misogyny isn’t the subtext of American political rage and social dysfunction; all too often, it’s the plain text. The links between domestic violence and mass shootings are chilling and well documented, though rarely cited in arguments about policy and prevention. The mobs of social media mobilize against women with special frequency and ferocity, often using the language of righteous grievance. Gamergate, a campaign of harassment directed at women who wrote about video game culture, pretended to be about “ethics in journalism.” The alt-right in the months before the 2016 election and its post-Trump progeny specialize in targeted misogyny. The TikTok hordes that went after Amber Heard over the past few months took a page from that book.

Depp’s victory is also theirs. The rage of men whose grievances are inchoate and inexhaustible found expression in a 58-year-old movie star’s humiliation of his 36-year-old former wife. I have to wonder: Are men OK? That’s a sincere question. Does the blend of self-pity, vanity, petulance and bombast that Depp displayed on the stand represent how we want to see ourselves or our sons? That’s a rhetorical question. The answer is yes.

Not all men, though. Right? Now that the trial is over, we’ll find new things to be ambiguous about, new venues where indeterminacy can serve as an alibi for the same old cruelty, and for its newer iterations. Johnny Depp is being embraced as a hero in some quarters, but his victory extends even to those who will allow themselves to feel troubled by the outcome of the trial and then move on. Some of us may wince a little when we watch “Pirates of the Caribbean” or “Donnie Brasco,” but we’ll probably still watch. They’re pretty good movies, and it’s not as if they can be expunged from the collective memory. That hasn’t happened to Louis C.K., or Woody Allen, or Michael Jackson, or Mel Gibson, or even Bill Cosby. Some of them have gone to court, some have faced public censure and disgrace, but they all remain woven into the fabric of the culture, and their behavior is too. We may not entirely forget, but we mostly forgive.

Let’s at least be clear about what that means. It means that we value the comfort and self-regard of men, especially famous ones, more than we value the safety and dignity of women, even famous ones."

This was written by a man. Which honestly kills me because all it does is prove that misandry is alive and well when it comes to the subject of domestic abuse. Just like that age old view of the patriarchy unable to see women as equals, women as anything other than damsels in distress, fragile little creatures that must be protected at all costs, here we have proof that society is still unable to accept the fact that a woman can abuse a man. And because said abuser is a woman, then society demands that we absolutely believe everything they've claimed despite evidence that was entered into a court of law that was reviewed by legal experts and jurors alike proving the contrary. It demands that not only are we to circle her wagons and defend her due to her anatomy but also turn a blind eye to her abuses of not only a man but other human beings that it has been documented by law enforcement and in a court of law that she actually did.

I am just...astonished. This is the NY Times. They approved this piece. And rather than talk to actual abuse experts and psychological experts, even law enforcement, they choose to continue to be part of the problem.

Let me say this, had I heard JD making the statements on the audio recordings that AH did instead, I absolutely would be just as passionate in supporting her. Because I support ALL survivors, regardless of their gender.

And because of my experience in this arena, because I am a survivor, I can tell you that within seconds of hearing AH speaking that I knew right then, other evidence sight unseen, who was really abusing who. It's a special club that not one of us ever wants to be a part of.

Witnesses to the Hicksville incident show that Depp was the one who was abuse. Heard said the trailer was trashed but one thing was broken. Depp was so afraid of Heard and it was clear to see according to the witnesses. Jennifer Howell has testified that Heard hurt both Whitney Heard AND Depp. You want to believe a proven abuser hm? Someone who was seen with no bruises the day after she clajms Depp hit her? The woman who went on James Corden with no marks? a woman who admitted on tape she started the abuse and called Depp a coward for running away from her?

I would like to point out that, in this post HERE, which is what this ask is in response to, I never said anything in condemnation of either party. I was simply making a statement on how many fans can't seem to differentiate between fiction and reality based on their responses to the trial, and lo and behold, there you are, mere minutes after I made that post, in my inbox to prove my point.

Congratulations! That was quick even by the standards that I'm used to.

You, and those like you lurking in the tags on this website, those profiting off of it on TikTok and YouTube, the trolls of Twitter and Instagram, down to the Jack Sparrow cosplayers and fans that drove hours to stand outside the courthouse for a man they've never met, are all treating this entire thing like it's the latest season of your favorite legal drama. All the way down to how you all perceive Depp and Heard and then portray them.

Depp is your uwu baby who can do no wrong ever (despite the corroborated evidence presented during this trial) and Heard is the evil gold-digging whore who pulled a Gone Girl and ruined this man's life. And yet, Depp has been smiling and laughing the entire time, enjoying talking to his fans outside in his Jack Sparrow voice and even saying he made them all waffles.

Could you imagine if the roles were reversed?

If Amber Heard had joked with her fans outside the courthouse a d flirted with her lawyers, y'all would have crucified her, even more so than you do now.

I've seen so many posts and tweets and tiktoks about her association with this actor and that person, and how that's evidence that she's a horrible person, but the same isn't true for Depp, despite his praise for (and working with) Roman Polanski, or his long friendship with Marilyn Manson.

The double-standards are straight out of the fandom play book. You don't view them as people - you can't! You don't know them - you view them as characters.

I'm not going to respond to all of the stuff you listed there, because I, like you, am not a lawyer. Nor am I on the jury, so my opinion on the guilt or innocence of either is irrelevant.

I will take this opportunity to point out that this isn't a trial to determine whether either are guilty of abuse. This is a defamation trial. The entire purpose of this was to determine whether or not Amber's op-ed from 2018 during the height of #MeToo movement was done intentionally and maliciously to ruin Depp's career and had a effect on him recieving work. Which, given that Depp is already rumored to be in talks to star in two new movies, and the fact that the man owns his own island, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that he's not hurting financially.

I'll close this out by saying that all this trial has done so far is show how many people who say things like "always believe women" will immediately throw out that sentiment the moment it becomes inconvenient for your fandom experience.

Broken plenty of laws, probably, throughout the various ages she's been at. Theft of things varying from gold to an entire ship (she and her great-great-great-grandmother's crew were all guilty of that), and murder, mostly. Here and there, slavery (although she only bought the people she could so she could set them free later. Like Jack Sparrow, this little shit doesn't own other people and doesn't support it).

As for promises... except for one, nope. She promised her ex she'd kill him, and she did; she promised one royal navy commodore she'd kill him, and she did, and she promised her great-great-great-grandmother's crew she'd clear said woman's name and help them defeat the navy. And she did. If it hadn't been for her promise to Ríane to keep her safe, she'd never have broken any promises.

This guy? Also plenty of broken promises. Promised his brothers no harm would reach them, broken immediately because the angel in him just had to attack and kill them (they came back, though. They always do). His brothers also promised the same thing and failed to stick to it, though, so it's a lose-lose sitch. He did promise to help free them all of this, though, and that promise was not broken, and it mattered a lot, if that makes up for it.

As for laws... well he and all of his brothers have done damage to buildings and killed people and set shit on fire. That's at least three things. Mostly the first one, though, so on top of being victims of abuse and human experimenting they'll also get to be in prison because life is unfair as sin and they were fucked ever since they were kids.

“Fine, then! I’ll really leave if that’s what you truly want from me! I would’ve hoped that by now, if not a long time ago, to have you know and believe you can trust me with anything. I would never go behind your back and betray you in such a way!”

“Just get out already! The door is wide open for you that way!” He points to an exit out of the bar.

But that wasn’t all, before you leave, Jack adds on more to it and what he says completely shatters you and your heart into thousands of pieces that nobody could put back together. It was almost like you were now feeling broken beyond repair.

“Why don’t you hand out my regular to the bartender before you go and tell him that he had won over his wh**e?”

Time seemed to have stopped the moment you hear those words, feeling shattered all over again before officially walking out, leaving Jack Sparrow behind. While walking further away, you could feel the tears threatening to run down your cheeks.

For as long as you’ve known him, you never allowed Jack Sparrow to see you cry, and you weren’t going to let him see that now. Your mind was telling you that the words he spoke towards you, didn’t hold any real meaning. But your mind played it’s usual tricks on you saying that it was over. You and Jack kept yourselves together in a steady relationship, keeping it just between the two of you. As you continue to walk away, you thought about returning to the Black Pearl, thinking that Jack would have his mind cleared and realize his mistake of the unexpected outburst. On your way there, however, you got cold feet and headed into a different direction. Not really taking note of your surroundings as the stupid fight still fresh in mind kept hitting replay. Right now, you remember more of the event then you would have liked. You prefer to keep things like this in the back of your mind and try to keep moving forward to what the future holds.

What can recall upon memory was Jack’s demeanor quickly changing after watching you exchange small talk with the bartender as you were getting refills. Being in a relationship with one another, Jack should have kept in mind of the fact he didn’t have to worry about losing you to someone who might be better then him. This was the first time you were going to witness Jack’s jealousy, him lashing out and what made it worse was that you didn’t understand was why Jack seem to think so low of you in the moment to feel like he couldn’t trust you around others without being suspicious, and things having escalated as far as they did. Once Jack Sparrow had the chance to compose himself, it didn’t take him very long to realize his mistake of accusing you of something that you were not guilty of. He was only hoping that once he returned to the Black Pearl, he would see you to already be there waiting for him. What he had planned to do once he got there was to find you first thing, then to deeply apologize to you and admit his mistakes to you, then he wanted to do everything in his power to make this up to you in some way. It was important for him to find you, so that he can try to win you back in his arms once again.

Once Jack had made his return to the Black Pearl, he felt his heart drop in the pit of his stomach as he takes in your absence. He frantically asks the crew onboard if they’ve seen you anywhere nearby. To his dismay, he was informed that no one had any knowledge of your whereabouts, that’s when the panic settles in within Jack Sparrow. He made it his mission to hunt you down and bring you back with him. The truth was you didn’t go very far after walking out, you kept yourself hidden from a distance where you could see when Jack retreats the bar before going back inside yourself. As you witness Jack leaving through the doors, you wait until you’re sure he’s far enough away to not see you.

After making sure Jack wasn’t there, you went back and sat down in a different table. As you sit there, you begin to go back to the earlier turn of events, that taking place just a few feet away. You had your back turned towards the entry doors of the bar, preventing you from taking notice of Jack Sparrow’s return. He originally came back in to clear his head a little more while mapping out locations in mind before the search for you begins. Just as he was taking a seat, he noticed you from the corner of his eye. Confirming that it really was you he sees in front of him, he quietly makes his approach to you, not wanting to scare you off again.

Your mind was focused on your own little world that you nearly jump out of your skin, after feeling someone’s hand being placed on your shoulder from behind you. You couldn’t help but let yourself stiffening from the touch, didn’t have to turn around to see who was there, you already knew that it was Jack Sparrow. Everything seemed to have been paused in silence, just as Jack took the empty seat next to you.

Anticipation grew throughout the remaking silence, but you weren’t going to be the first to speak up. Lucky for you, Jack voluntarily becomes the one to have spoken up.

“Listen love, I’m sorry for snapping and scaring you off earlier. I just snapped before I could keep it contained and controlled.”

You nod as an invitation for him to continue, for you having yet to say a word.

“I know I messed up big time, but I’m hoping beyond hope I most likely don’t deserve that you’ll follow me back to the Black Pearl?”

This time, you had come up with what you wanted to say.

“Look, (Y/n). I know the words I’ve said to you earlier were something I shouldn’t have ever said, especially saying them to you. I know was upset over something so small, but I let the jealousy get the best of me after seeing you talking to the bartender and for that I truly am sorry. I never meant to hurt you like that. Won’t you please give me another chance? I can’t, I won’t go on without having you there next to me.”

You thought through his plea before making a final response.

“Okay, Jack. I forgive you. But mark my words that if this ever happens again, I won’t be handing out another chance to you, for you no matter how much it hurts. Because I don’t want to lose you.”

“Deal. I promise it won’t happen again.”

After accepting his apology, you both sealed the deal with a long hug before you follow along back to the Black Pearl. You were going to do everything in your power to have prevent anything like this to ever happen again.

With the two of you together, you worked hard to keep the relationship in a healthy state, as you didn’t want to jeopardize it.
