technically i won't be graduating until the end of the year because i finished past the cut off date for my uni's mid-year graduation ceremonies, but i'm happy to have finished regardless.

it's been a really difficult and long process, and i had to delay finishing my degree by 2 years due to a long string of Life Events (Not Fun) that got in the way of me completing the last 2 courses i had left in my degree as of mid-2022, so i'm glad i finally managed to get to the end of a semester without some random bullshit stopping me for the first time in several years lmao.

i dropped out of high school after i got sick, and i thought i was gonna have to drop out of uni too, despite all the work i've put in to pull my life together. it really means a lot to me that i managed to make it through to the end this time, even though it was tough to keep my head above water sometimes.

an: quite literally was checking my finals results when cheol went live so… i’m finally graduating soon!

You were stunned.

Staring back at you, the screen illuminating your face as it sat on the table, your laptop’s bright display shows a page you never thought you would receive.

FINAL EXAM – 70%

“I passed?” you softly muttered, unable to believe your eyes. You could feel your heart pounding. You moved your cursor to the corner, clicking ‘refresh’. It loaded for a millisecond before displaying the same unchanged page again. Still, in disbelief, you’re about to refresh your page again when your phone lit up, the special ringtone Seungcheol had set for himself blaring into the room.

You blinked out of your reverie, jumping at the sudden noise. You stared blankly at the phone a little while longer before finally moving to pick it up. A videocall, you noticed. Smoothening down your hair and propping the phone up, a trembling finger pressed ‘accept call’. A moment of suspense built as the connection was established, and then, there he was – your lover's face appeared on the screen, filling your world with his presence.

“Hi baby!”

Seungcheol’s bright voice greeted you. The warmth in his eyes and the genuine happiness on his face instantly bridged any physical distance that separated you. He was about to jump into the whole reason why he was calling you – he had some free time before heading to the gym – when he noticed in your shocked face.

“Baby? Love?” He waved his hand to elicit some kind of movement from you. Seungcheol was almost convinced your side of the call was hanging until he caught you mouthing something. Increasing his volume, he coaxed you to repeat your words.

“Cheol, I… I just checked my finals results,” you gulped. “I… passed? It says here i scored 70%...” you spoke in hush tones, as if afraid saying it out loud would change the reality of your grades. Regardless, Seungcheol immediately picked up on your words, clapping his hands in excitement.

“Really? Isn’t that a distinction? That’s great, baby! You worked hard!” His smile gradually widened, dimples growing deeper. “Congratulations sweetheart, you’ve graduated!”

“I get to graduate…” Your eyes widened at the sudden realisation.

“Right? You said this was your last module before you can finally graduate.”

Seungcheol tilted his head. He had been on the receiving end of all your complaints and rants about the classes. It was the one module in your entire degree that had the highest difficulty, and he was well aware of how anxious you had been over passing. He had watched you pull multiple all-nighters for assignments, cancel plans to cram study sessions. Hell, you even had his contact blocked when you holed yourself in your room to complete the online exam, only being able to contact you after the designated 3 hours. Needless to say, he had all the confidence in the world that you would pass this module, despite your own pessimism.

“I get to graduate…” You repeated, not believing your own voice. Realisation hit, and your hands flew to cover your mouth. Your eyes started to water, tears of relief threatening to fall down your cheeks. Your voice trembled. But even through the tiny screen, you looked like the weight of world has been lifted off your shoulders.

“Cheollie… I can graduate!”

“Yes baby! My love is a graduand!” He chuckled, before leaning towards the camera. His face took up all the space on the screen, nose scrunching in concentration.

“Are– are you crying?!” Although it’s through a videocall, his worried voice didn’t fail to warm your heart. You let the tears fall freely as you nodded, teary eyes blurring your sight of the phone screen.

“I’m just so happy… I’m finally done with uni, Cheol!” He simply shook his head in disbelief, laughing along when he confirmed that you were okay.

“Yes! My little degree holder~” Seungcheol gaze wandered somewhere off-screen, presumably a clock, and he cursed as he realised the time.

“I have to go baby, I’ll see you at home? We can celebrate together later!” he promised, adjusting his hoodie and gathering his things. “Love you!”

You sniffled in response and shot him a grin. “Mmh, okay. Love you too.” Just like that, you sent him a small wave and ended the call.

Seungcheol came home a few hours later, a small cake in one hand and your favourite alcohol in another. However, he found you fast asleep on the couch, no doubt trying to wait up for him. He placed the items in the fridge, then proceeded to gather you in his arms. You curled up into his chest as he carried you to bed. Setting you on the bed, he went to wash up before joining you under the covers. You instinctively reached out for him the moment you sensed him, letting out a satisfied sigh when he pulled you even closer.

Seungcheol took a moment to study your sleeping face. Your eyes were a little puffy, evidence of your earlier waterworks. One hand thumbed your cheek, tracing the content smile on your lips. He planted a kiss on your forehead before turning in for the night as well.

You’ll just have to celebrate tomorrow instead.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EDUCATION

Every child should receive an education. A good education can help kids become self-assured adults and provide doors to a variety of job options. Your future job can be paved with education, which also prepares you for a lifetime of learning. People can learn things that help them grow and develop, including information and skills. Perseverance is the mother of triumph.

It increases the capacity for critical thought, effective communication, and problem-solving. In terms of the individual and social levels, education has both intrinsic and extrinsic value. It is a fundamental human right and a requirement for human advancement.

THE FITTING OF A GRADUATION GOWN

Guys I am so excited, okay? my best friend, my sister and my everything my Lindokule Gwengula is graduating on the 19th of April 2023 at Nelson Mandela University. So, guys today it’s the 10th of April 2023 and it is the day that my best friend Lindokuhle will go and fit her graduation attire. So now we are in the Graduation Gown Shop in Port Elizabeth at Govan Mbeki Road.

The store assistant gave us the attire and showed us the dressing room where Lindokuhle will fit it. Lindokuhle then decided that if the attire was too long, she would ask them for the perfect size. Fortunately, she had the gown fitted, and now it is exactly how she wanted it to be—it fits her perfectly. I’ve included a photo of her wearing the grown in the changing room below. As she tried on her graduation gown and purchased the complete graduation attire, I was ululating next to her. After that, we returned to our residence in Summerstrand.

BOOKING A NAIL TECHNICIAN

It was two days now after we went for a gown fitting, so I decided to book a slot at a nail technician in Central for Lindo. She wanted long nails with an art and guess what? she got a 30% (thirty percent) discount since she is a loyal customer. The nail technician knows her job, I do not want to lie and to be honest I didn’t trust her since most of the people that I know have bad experience with her. Fortunately, she did her best to Lindokuhle, after she was done, I took the pictures for a TikTok content, not me guys ululating the time we were going out of the salon and saying ”our graduand” I was so happy some people laughed at me and it was at night, so our uncle came to fetch us “#nailsdone” that was my Lindokuhle saying that loudly and she was full of smiles.

GRADUATION DAY

It is the 19th of April 2023 the big day have arrived people and we are so happy. The Gwengula family was on their way since the graduation ceremony was going to start at 14:30 and the driving duration from a small town called Peddie to Port Elizabeth is 3 hours, so they wanted to be early. By 1 o'clock they called and told us they are passing the Town lodge in Summerstrand and we directed them to go to South campus Madibaz Indoor Sport Centre since the whole graduation ceremony was going to take place there.

Halala halala! (ululating) that was me entering in Kuhle’s room, I was so happy it felt as if I was the one who was graduating, I was screaming non-stop, congratulating her. The room was full, she was with Sihle her makeup artist, and her three friend the second one was also graduating with her. Not her saying ”the educated one is up! I’m talking about the graduate! Let’s show them flames…” lol she said this in isiXhosa, and she was so happy guys no cap.

The makeup artist did her best, she is good at her work, Kuhle wanted a full glam and full glam on makeup consists of lashes, the eyes are the main point, and they are often developed in many eye shadows with a red lip stick and Kuhle said to the makeup artist to use red and baby pink since the colors were linking with her red dress and transparent heels. Kuhle kept on saying this in IsiXhosa “guys don’t keep quiet, I have opened new clothes, speak about me please” and we laughed because that is a TikTok hilarious sound. So, she was referring to the full graduation attire and the outfit for the day.

Graduation is a symbol of one’s growth and personal development. It represents the information learned, the skills honed, and the experiences encountered while seeking an education. The ending of one chapter in one’s academic life and the beginning of another make graduation from university a significant event. There is currently a sense of celebration, acknowledgment, and potential.

It represents a student’s readiness to advance to the next stage of their life after successfully completing their academic degree.

CELEBRATORY SONGS

I wrote on our residence’s WhatsApp group that my best friend is ready to go out. So, we decided to sing celebratory songs called Amagwijo in isiXhosa for them, “the graduates” some of us were ululating and congratulating them for working hard and being perseverant.

She was with her other friend that was also graduating. No cap! they were both beautiful, Kuhle was wearing a red bob cube mini dress with a women rhinestone Decor chunky heeled ankle strap sandal. In the picture bellow we were continuing singing celebratory songs (Amagwijo) and accompanying Kuhle and other graduands to the gate. She planned to not to wear her gown in our residence, so she just wore the belt.

Lindokuhle and her other friend requested an uber from Sanlam Student Village to Indoor Sport Centre at South Campus. Her two grandmothers and aunt were already there at the venue. So I said I will meet them at the venue since I was walking with my two friends Sinovuyo and Kwanga. We took for about 30 (thirty) minutes to go to the venue, since it was extremely hot like a heater outside lol.

Then I saw Lindokuhle wearing her gown walking with her family, she was owning the spot walking confidently and feeling herself. Her earring fell on the ground, and I ran to pick up the earring and gave it to her. She then sent the ticket on WhatsApp for me to attend and celebrate the graduation ceremony. Below is the picture of the ticket and the graduation Autumn book, so we did go to the queue and the graduation ushers gave us the graduation Autum book we went inside and found a spot to sit on.

The vice chancellor Prof Sibongile Muthwa opened the ceremony with a prayer, and she welcomed the graduates. The Nelson Mandela choir started to sing their songs and no cap they have beautiful and angelic voices. Then I saw Mbali Ngube who is the choir conductor a friend of mine, I was so happy to see her and she was the leader of the song.

The ceremony started and it was now the time of Lindokuhle’s course, which is Diploma in Public Relations Management, so I told my friends to scream their lungs out when Kuhle’s name is called.

She was then given those tickets outside of the graduation venue and she seated on chair number M19.

So yeah, she was called to come forward and she was number six on the list of the Public Relations students. I screamed her name Lindokuhle Gwengula! Kuhle! I became so emotional and cried, not that I was in pains but I was so happy, I was excited that she managed to pass after so much stress that came with education. It was tears of joy and I wished that her mother was there to see her second daughter graduating. Graduation is also an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of graduates. It is a time for family, friends, and educators to acknowledge the hard work, perseverance, and dedication that cumulated in their academic achievements. Kuhle went outside Indoor Sport Centre since the ceremony was over, they sang celebratory songs with other graduates.

Her brother came with a balloon with roses and chocolates that were written congratulations. Everyone was happy, Kuhle took pictures with her grandmothers and aunt including us her friends. She came back to our residence and yes that was it. that was the end of her day.

She then decided to do a Tiktok challenge carrying her gift and she sang Mr west by Kanye West.

Then bellow it is her and I later on outside our residence and please guys don't mind my hair it's bad I know lol.

In a nutshell all the above pictures Kuhle “the graduate” took them with her friends and family. Indeed, perseverance is the mother of the triumph. Congratulations sister once again.

A Momentous Day for the Graduands at COPS

Graduation Day of the II PUC students of Coorg Public School was celebrated on the 26th of January, 2024. It was a momentous occasion commemorating the academic journey of the graduands. The ceremony commenced at 5:30 p.m with an impressive pageantry where the graduands marched in full regalia. 

The Principal of the School Dr. M Ramachandran administered the pledge to the graduands to affirm their commitment to ethical practices, lifelong learning and towards contributing responsibly to the society. 

The Chief Guest of the day Dr. K C Ponnappa, Principal of Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, Virajpet complimented the School Trust for conceiving the idea of having a premier institution in Kodagu and successfully establishing it. In his address to the graduands, Dr Ponnappa said that the Graduation Day marks a significant turning point in the students' lives. He urged that success and failure are both a part of one's life and advised the graduands to work constantly towards their goals. He reminisced the days of his academic journey giving instances of ups and downs and guided the students to do everything with dignity and pride without letting their spirits down.

The President of the School Trust Prof. M D Nanjunda advised the outgoing students to enjoy their freedom with responsibility. He stressed on one's readiness to face life which may be coupled with smooth and uneven paths. He encouraged them to dream big for a brighter future while being realistic in life. 

The candle lighting ceremony enveloped the ambience with a positive aura making it a memorable milestone in the lives of the graduands'.

By • Olalekan Fagbade JUST IN; NSCDC inaugurates VIPs guard unit with 501 personnel - Commandant General The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated a Very Important Persons (VIP) unit to provide adequate protection for persons of prominent personality in the country. The NSCDC Commandant-General (CG), Ahmed Audi, disclosed this at the Passing-Out-Parade of 501 trained personnel at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja on Friday. Audi represented by Assistant Commandant-General (ACG) in charge of Agro-Rangers, Augustine Obiekwe, said that the trained personnel were to protect persons of higher threats due to status, prominence and influence. He urged the officers and men to discharge their duties professionally and serve as good ambassadors of the Corps at all times without compromise. He explained that the primary objective of a VIP unit was to minimize the risk of harm to the VIPS and maintain their privacy while allowing them to carry out their daily routines and engagements. The CG said that the essential coordination and communication among team members was essential for the smooth operations of the protection unit, and charged the team to collaborate with intelligent agents of other security agencies. According to Audi, the personnel were drawn from all NSCDC state commands and formations and had undergone a rigorous proficiency training at the Corps’ headquarters in Abuja. In his address of welcome, ACG Training and Manpower Development, David Abi, enjoined the graduands to put into practice all they learnt in the course of training, stressing that the Corps must not fall short of expectations. According to him, the establishment of the unit was for proper coordination, control and communication amongst guards for better service delivery in line with global best practice. “They underwent a special intelligence proficiency course which focused on VIP escorts, duties, psychological behaviors, the effect of emotions on temper, attitude, relationship between principals and personnel amongst others. “This will no doubt equip the selected officers in the discharge of their duties beyond previous expectations and outcomes,” he said.(NAN)
