friends to lovers fics?? i need to feel something bestie 😭

Okay I know it took me soooo long but I'm sorry bestie and here you go!

what's more fulfilling than a story about a friendship turning into a love relationship right? So I'm beyond happy to share some of my favorite friends to lovers stories! (ofc there are so many amazing stories out there and I'm sorry in advance because I'm sure I'll forget many 😭 Also if anyone wants to add something in the comments feel free to do it because I'm always happy to discover new ones!)

So I' ll start with a story from my beloved @freedomfireflies (she has a story for everything, doesn't she? 🥰) : the series is called Teach Me and let me just say that it altered my brain chemistry!

Next is Maisy and Harry by @narryffdreaming 🥰 The flow is incredible, the writing's unmatched and it's like you're watching a movie! Literally amazing!

Also Friendy Favor by @be-with-me-so-happily is so fun to ready and I enjoyed it so much! It's awesome!

Of course @jarofstyles also have an amazing story with that trope! It's called Flame and it's truly wonderful! Once you start reading it, you will be unable to stop!

Also @jawllines ' bodyguard!harry (he and Y/N were friends when they were young) and fireman!harry are AMAZING 😍 I was a giggling mess when I read them! Believe me, they're amazing stories and both of these harrys are like two green flags with legs!

Oh also Just How Fast The Night Changes by @watchmegetobsessed is sooooooo good too!!! Had a great time reading it and actually I think I need to reread it because it's that good!

Also before I close this ask I have to recommend one more story! It's not an actual story, it's headcanons BUT I love headcanons and as it's been known @harrysblackcoat does the best headcanons (and concepts) so please go and read them!

Emma’s Epic Bday Multi-Fandom Rec List: Stranger Things Edition

(yes, there will be many parts because oh my god I read waaaay too much fic)

Since it was my birthday recently (and around the 1-year anniversary of when I started actually using Tumblr again after a years-long break) I figured it was only fitting to do a giant master list of all of the amazing fanfics that I have read (and reread) in the past year.

I do my best to reblog as much as possible but sometimes with work and life I miss it so this is my attempt to make up for that and give all of the amazing creators on here the credit they deserve. (also, for the record, it’s on sight with brittany)

put me through it, baby ❤️‍🔥 by @agentmarvel — PINING EDDIE MY BELOVED! Ugh I loved the slow building of the friendship between Eddie and reader, the angst of him knowing that her boyfriend was trash but not wanting to cross a line, the passion between them. As i wrote when i reblogged it, “Screaming, crying, laughing, smiling, CRYING 😍🥹😭🥵 “

take me higher ❤️‍🔥 by @munson-blurbs — i will never get enough Argyle stories, and bug has written some of my favorites. this is one i reread all the time (i’m clearly a sucker for a good babysitter fic) because i love the way Argyle feels so real in it. The flirtation, the banter, those sweet little moments of awkwardness, it’s all truly 10/10. A special runner-up mention goes to this blurb which features best friend! Argyle and hair pulling and is just … just a dream.

bad idea ❤️‍🔥 by @abibliophobiaa — if i’ve said it once, i’ve said it a million times: Steve Harrington is a menace. Best friend!Steve gets his hands on the romance novel you’re reading and decides to tease you with all of the flirty things he picked up from it. Steve is at peak menace in this, which means i fell hard and fast.

this is gonna sting by @lovebugism — this one was written so, so beautifully. Sweet, lovestruck Eddie afraid to open up and confess his feelings always hits me hard and the imagery in this was just so stunning that i think about it a lot. I aspire to write a sentence as beautiful as “he leaks a bright red truth right across from you and carries everything he feels about you in raging scarlet scrapes.”

Steve Harrington Boat Smut ❤️‍🔥 by @lovebugism — God, what a glorious day it was when those pictures of Joe Keery on a boat in Italy made their way online. Anyway, this is exactly what is says on the tin and exactly what we all needed in that moment.

This story by @pouringmyheartoutforpaper — sweet, sweet lovesick Stevie who is determined that things will be different in this relationship meets reader who has some insecurities about how slow their relationship is progressing. Gorgeous, sweet, fluff that will give you the warm fuzzies.

The Tune-Up ❤️‍🔥 by @roanniom — Issa, queen of smut! This mechanic Eddie story is so hot that it will have you contemplating whether or not you should mess with a few things on your car, just for an excuse to come visit him in the shop. (Also just read all of her stuff. It’s so, so good.)

Smoke and Cherry Pop Rocks ❤️‍🔥 by @somnambulic-thing — want to have your heart broken in the best way possible? HERE YOU GO. A gorgeous, tender, emotional story about regrets and moving on and finding the courage to open up, even if it’s a little too late.

Classified ❤️‍🔥by @pullhisteeth — considering the slightly absurd premise — putting an ad in the paper to lose your virginity — this was gorgeously grounded and real. Eddie is so lovely and gentle in this and it was just a treat to read.

monster under the bed ❤️‍🔥by @eddiemunsons-missingnipple — i’m going to be honest: this is monsterfucking. But if that’s something you’re into, you *need* to read this. It will make you go feral.

River Monster! Eddie ❤️‍🔥by @courtingchaos — brb, wandering along the banks of all the rivers near me in an attempt to lure River Monster!Eddie to come out and mate with me. Again, it is monsterfucking, but … come on. It’s so good. (Meg also has some of the best Gator Tillman fics out there. They’re hot and weird and wild in all of the best ways.

My Goyle Fiend ❤️‍🔥by @bettyfrommars — You want monsters? You go to Betty. Trust me on this. Her gargoyle series was the first that I read from her and I was hooked instantly. She’s written werewolves, vampires and is currently working on a brilliant series where Eddie works at the Nightmare Factory and appears in your dreams as all kinds of different ghosts and ghouls. If things that go bump in the night aren’t your taste, her biker! Eddie and Steve series are also great, as well as her beautiful gigalo!Eddie story.

I Can See You ❤️‍🔥by @fairyysoup — I don’t know that there are enough words to express how much I loved this story, The not-so-unrequited affection, the building tension, the way Steve and the reader keep coming together over the years, Steve’s big grand gesture at the end … just so beautiful and moving and steamy. I’ve already reread it like 4 times.

Stranger Things Adjacent a.k.a. Joseph Quinn characters

The Hat Shop Girl (Ralph from Timewasters) ❤️‍🔥by @rehfan — Y’all this story is *so* good. It packs so much into this love story — issues of class, grief, sexuality, power dynamics — in a way that just makes their journey so much richer and more interesting. This version of Ralph is perfect, soft and sweet and well-meaning but also the way his confidence builds throughout the story is delightful and the smut between them is so delicious and delightful. 10/10.

Knight in Shining Armor (Billy Knight) ❤️‍🔥by @rehfan — I’m gonna say it: This is my favorite Billy Knight fanfic of all time. So soft and tender, it handles Billy’s mental health in a way that feels really empathetic and realistic while also letting the audience indulge in the thing everyone really wants: to give sweet Billy all the love in the world.

This Billy Knight Masterlist ❤️‍🔥by @pollenallergie — I could not pick just one of these amazing Billy fics. pollenallergie is, in my mind, *the* authority on all things Billy Knight and she’s got it all. Her writing is soft and steamy and touching all at the same time and I love it all.

Worth It (Ralph from Timewasters) by @wheels-of-despair — Do you want to feel *all* of the delightful warm fuzzies as you daydream about the perfect life with sweet Ralph? This is the story for you. Every chapter is delightful and touching and will make you feel *all* of the feelings. I love it so much.

OHMYGOD!!! first of all because I just recently found out your blog and started reading your story, you are an INCREDIBLE writer and that’s an understatement! second of all i think i’m allowed to curse here right ?— holy fuck! my mind is blown quite literally. a dating proposal😭 oh my god!!! oh my god!!! choso is so sweet to reader and is so understanding my god he is quite literally perfect for her

but… please nobody come for me.. I just have this nagging feeling about gojo I can’t explain ittt..I know it’s wrong and probably terribly toxic (pls don’t judge me) but i must admit, that i hoped the reader would choose gojo.. she really had no good reason to do so, and i’m glad she didn’t cause she’s been through hell the poor thing, but a girl can hope right🥲

idk how it’s gonna go with choso but i hope gojo can fix his mess at least a little bit. 🥲 I also have this feeling that sukuna is gonna cause some trouble, this feels like moments before disaster for some reason idk😭 BUT I LOVED IT, and I LOOOVE this series soo much, thank you for writing it!!

Fanfic Writer Ask Game

📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?

Definitely! It depends on what you are looking for, so here's a few of my faves in a couple different categories:

***Edit: I'm adding a cut bc it's just occurred to me to mention, anyone new who's not done the series but is seeing this - I do have a spoiler-safe fics list that Scotti and I were working on at one point, so if there's a specific season you're looking for, but not wanting to know what twists come after (or if you're looking for fic for a specific episode or event), feel free to inbox me and I'll send some links. :)

Below this cut there are descriptions that spoil all sorts of things, so.....***

For Jeller, everything by @indelibleevidence is outstanding. I'm gonna start out saying probably a majority of it has passages that are NSFW so if you're a minor or not into that, tread lightly. I'm currently revisiting Remember to Forgive, which has late-season 3 Weller suffering amnesia that takes him mentally back to early season 2; you know, when he couldn't stand to be in the same room as his wife. The angst! It's a fave and totally my jam, I could probably quote it. Torture Without You is... well. Read it. Amazing. I'm a big Remi fan, and here you will also find one of our two Reller champions: the Damaged Goods series is so dark (also very NSFW) but soooo good.

@idealisticrealism is another that everyone should definitely read, imo. The Fire is basically my favorite one-shot ever, and she's our other Reller champion - as complete AUs go I can not possibly overstate my love for From the Ashes and Into Flames. I could literally quote them both to you.

@gypsyscarfwoman is responsible for my other favorite one-shot, Nothing Can Come Between Us, which is Jeller after season 2, but from Sarah Weller's POV. It's just a tiny bit angsty but fluffy and sweet. I love the way she describes the interactions between Jeller as viewed by a concerned third party. There's also Shelter From Your Storm, which is another season 2 AU except that post compound raid there's legitimate concern Nas might throw Jane under the bus and let the CIA have her, so Weller fake marries her to legitimize and protect her.

@ladyriot recently did a lovely retelling of s2 but as a Jane/Patterson slow burn. The way they low key agonize over each other is tragic, but the ending is so sweet without being completely saccharine, and it's definitely worth a look.

I haven't read much Zapatterson but @narvaldetierra is actively writing them. I read Remembers from September and No Good Deed Goes Unpunished a while ago, and I'm excited to reread them soon and then keep working through this ship 😁

Dylan Cruca is worth checking out if you want a bit of season 2/3 Jeller canon divergence/extra scenes, or Jeller/Reller AUs - I thought their post-season 1 AU ended up being a particularly interesting twist - but they're not for everyone.

I could go on but I'll end with one that's basically the fic equivalent to a playlist of Sad Songs to Sob To: Silence Speaks by lochness20, in which Jane's black site escape attempt fails, and when they find her, she is in a REALLY bad state. Warning that it's pretty dark and brutal and tw for suicidal thoughts and an eventual very graphic murder.

🏷 Is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read?

I don't really look for specific tags; it's not a huge fandom so there's not a ton of room to be choosy. I can say that straight whump isn't my thing, nor is pure domestic stuff, and I generally steer clear of pregnancy/kidfic unless there's some other compelling plot alongside the kids. I guess I basically love angst most of all 😍

Countdown to 2023: 3 Writers

So many amazing writers to choose from and ugh I’m just gonna stick to the suggested countdown numbers for my own sanity but please, please know that if you write anything, anything at all, I love and adore you and your writing!

(I’m late but what else is new 😅)

Top of the list would have to be @storyofmychoices. Dani writes such delightful bits of life for all her babies and it always brightens my day to read anything from her. And yea, maybe I’m partial to her writing because of Maiele and Daenarya but can y’all really blame me for that? They are just too perfect together and she writes them beautifully!! i reread many of her’s (Passing Shower is forever a favorite of mine) but this one always has me giggling because anytime Maiele and Daenarya leave these two are together is my favorite!

@aallotarenunelma stories explore some really difficult and important emotions within relationships and their treatment of those within their stories is just *chefs kisses* plus anyone that writes nonbinary characters in this fandom will forever hold a special place in my heart!! I am in love with their Indigo series (start here) 😍 but if you love It Lives then be very sure to check out their works there!

@starlight-starfury and @missameliep for writing some of the most beautiful Tyril stories I’ve ever read. They are just poetry and bursting at the seems with beauty and emotion and ugh, let’s be honest, I love them for writing Tyril! Starlight’s Dark Night is the perfect addition that PB left out and I still gotta catch up on the rest of her Tyril fics too. Dani’s Like Poetry haunts me to this day and I still cry when I read it but those beautiful sorts of tears that come with heartbreak and loss after a lifetime of love that you never truly lose.

Hmmmm….Probably Sweetest Little Liar. I actually submitted that as a Hellcheer prompt fill and it’s weird because it’s the 2nd story in my Hellcheer series and the 3rd story actually has more hits (although fewer kudos)? I think I might’ve some of that to myself because (a) I was posting during the holidays (which I feel is usually a time when there’s less reader engagement) and (b) I posted the 3rd story pretty quickly after (within a few days), so I don’t know it really had a chance to find readers.

Oooooo….probably Prairie Doll. You wanna talk about writing pure fucking crack, the kind of story that’s the definition of “write for yourself”???? The fact that anyone else has enjoyed that story with me floors me. lol

8. What was your favorite fic you wrote from 2022?

Hmmmm…From a story development standpoint, probably Prairie Doll because it’s really stretching my creative storytelling muscles. From a “holy shit, I can’t believe I pulled that off!!!” standpoint, I’d have to say Private Dancer. The fact that I functionally wrote a whole ass book in like 4 months blows. My. mind. 🤯😂🤯😂

I know Tumblr is gonna jack up my ish if I try to post them all, so here are my current Top 10 (in no particular order).

to bring you home by MissAtomicBomb – Lexi as a journalist who falls in love with Fez after she keeps finding herself at his hotel + hot smut???? What’s not to love!!!

sweet dream, saccharine by myztify – I am a Cash truther and my girl myztify keeps me fed!! Ash is the bassist of a popular hair metal/rock band and Cassie is the sexually-empowered groupie who steals his heart. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reread this.

a thrill beyond compare by MissAtomicBomb – if you like some Dark Fexi, this is the story for you! Lexi goes on the (temporary) run with Fez after he kills Nate at the NYE party and things get hot ‘n’ heavy.

baby i just need a thug by myztify – another Cash story (with a sprinkle of Fexi). Cassie and Ash start off in a bad place here, but communication and adulting eventually prevail. Bonus points: Ash beats the shit out of Nate for disrespecting Cassie! 😍😍

this town is only gonna eat you by gigi_originally – this is a WIP but I absolutely love the story! Lexi & Cassie wind up coming to work for Kitty (Lexi as a bookkeeper, Cassie as a stripper). Lexi & Ash wind up getting super tight and Fez & Lexi develop a mutual crush on each other. This is one I always eagerly look forward to its updates!

hear me screaming, heavy breathing by myztify – this is the 1st story to baby i just need a thug. Shows how Cassie & Ash get together. Super hot and shows Cash as a bit of an investigative duo as they try to figure out whether Lexi is pregnant. 👀👀

TASTE by myfemininedivine – another WIP, but my girl is CRUSHING it!!! Each month Lexi focuses on an indulgence, and the fic charts Fexi’s developing relationship and how Fez plays into Lexi’s various desires. The descriptions and the feelings between Fexi are so beautifully described. This story makes me feral.

His veins like telephone wires by myfemininedivine – I am kicking my own ass for not downloading because it’s not on AO3 anymore. 😭😭😭😭😭It was sooooo good though. Lexi and Fez accidentally swapped phones after a run in at a club, and come to fall in love as they get to know each other through texts.

One More Time, Steal My Breath by DeliriumsDelight7 – this is a 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Hellcheer fic. If you like your smut kinky, consensual, and really tastefully done have I got a fic rec for you! Bonus: the chapters are suuuuuuuper long and the character development between Chrissy and Eddie is fantastic. Another fic that makes me rabid!

Dirtbag by betts – if you like your smut with a healthy dose of angst, this Hellcheer fic is gonna hit you right in the feels. This follows Eddie and Chrissy over the years after Chrissy marries Jason, but keeps coming back to Eddie as the “other man” and the emotional toll that takes on them both.

The university AU is one of my favourite fics and I reread it very often 😍 I'd love to hear more about the writing process if you want to share! (regarding the tags in that one post)

It's obviously been a while since I finished writing it, but of course I can share what I still remember! 🥰

While I did have an actual outline for the whole story in terms of what would happen in each chapter and in which order the POVs would be, there were some key moments or sometimes just some very specific lines that I pretty much based the whole fic around:

The Titanic concersation between Joonas and Niko (ch4) (this wasn't actually that important in the grand scheme of things, I just thought it was funny and it's one of my favourite scenes 😆)

“Because I was afraid I would take too many and not wake up at all.” (Joel's line in Ch5.1)

Aleksi "stealing" Joel's leather jacket and Joel buying him exactly the same one to keep as his own

Tommi's answer to Olli when he (drunkenly) wonders who he'll go to for some kisses and cuddles now that Joonas is with Niko (“Beats me.”) + “You’re such a good friend.”

These were the scenes that I REALLY wanted to write, and the rest just sort of...happened? Some of it was planned (e.g. pretty much everything that went down with Joel and Aleksi), but for some of the plot details I had only a vague idea when I began writing (e.g. Niko's background story). There were also some details that ended up working out perfectly by accident, such as Joonas heading over to Niko's when Joel and Aleksi (and Rilla!!) were having a sleepover in J&J's room. For some other plotlines my original idea changed during writing; for example Joonas and Niko were supposed to get together way earlier and easier than they did, but I decided to give them a bit rougher path in comparison to Joel/Aleksi, to avoid having two similar plotlines. Another plot detail I originally had was for Joonas to have had a crush on Olli back in the day (NOT overlapping with Olli's crush on him however) and that to be revealed when Olli confesses, but it didn't seem right in the end.

The only chapter that I never had a proper outline for was the very last one, and I actually only finished it on the day I uploaded it. In a way it serves as a sort of an epilogue, as it hints at a new, budding relationship, but doesn't really give much more than that to the reader.

The Fall Out Boy lyrics in the summaries of each chapter was perhaps one of the most fun parts of the writing process and I was so happy with how many of them turned out. Having said that, I did have trouble finding suitable ones for some of the chapters, but I'm particularly happy with the songs I chose for Olli's chapters, as well as Joonas' and Niko's 2nd chapters, and I like to think as a whole it makes a pretty cool soundtrack (I often imagine my stories more as TV series or movies, so here you might wanna think of Skam-esque use of music).

However, my absolute favourite thing about the whole fic and the creation process was Tommi's silent suffering throughout the story, revealed bit by bit (because if you read it again after having finished it once, you probably look at Tommi and his actions very differently). It was super exciting to write this kind of plotline and I was so so happy with how it turned out; at least based on the readers' reactions, I want to believe I did a good job there 💖

Fun fact: I actually started writing some sort of sequel around February last year, but I had no idea where I was going with it (I only managed a bit of Joel and Aleksi renovating Aleksi's house and Rilla ruining the floor by walking around with paint-stained paws 🥰). I don't have a plot for the sequel, only one VERY vague scene/shot of Tommi/Olli, so unti I can think of what I want to say with thay story (other than showing you that all is well), I'm afraid you're gonna have to keep waiting 😔 But as you may have seen with the Olympics AU, I might get a sudden burst lf insporation from the smallest of things, so who knows really? 👀

Gosh these two were so domestic and involved with each other in the best jovial way possible it was disgustingly adorable and I AM SCREAMING BECAUSE THE CONSTANT USAGE OF HUSBAND AND WIFE BY THE TWO PROTAGONISTS IN BOTH DISBELIEF AND UNCONSCIOUSLY WAS CUTE AF... And then some🙄

Okay-1. Loved the dialogue heavy approach in this chapter. Like I'm serious but this was so high quality. We really saw their dynamics as colleagues, friends, "married couple" surface in the most calm beautiful way..

2. Cementing the ambiguity of his relationship With Seri and the shaky grounds of his affair come through very neatly. This confusion is a pivotal point of this story because it affects JIN as a boyfriend/a CEO/a husband and the OC as a wife who ultimately will have to put her foot down and either chase her happiness or chase herself away from Jin's life and this marriage (Mimi I know you ain't giving me a spoiler but like Karen I can feel the angst in my left tit)

3. I really approve of the fact that nobody here approves of this Seri jin affair and their moral compass is strong and it doesn't dwindle just because this is a work of fiction.

4. I don't understand Seri's character and why she would want to be the other other woman like the entire vibe is so amicable and not normal 😂 waiting to let shit hit the fan.

5. Also a lot of casual moments that made me feel warmer than a ramen bowl on a rainy day - the dress fitting, the tie fixing, the soft smiles when the other said something heartfelt and honest, the tuxedo trials, admitting that the boss let her sleep in tmrw, him saying he will do the husband duty of complimenting her...

6. Pale puppy eyed feminine looking Seri being his type.. And the naturally fresh looking woman being his wife - Seokjin please stop being such a man 😂😂

7. Forget Seokjin.. Find me a Taehyung to my Hyuna (I'll become a Hyuna if this can be arranged) 😂

I left my work to read this chapter as soon as it dropped... 3 days is too long( how did we wait an entire week for updates???)

8. Also I feel that she's gonna meet Namjoon either at the wedding or in France and then there's going to be mixed feelings because now she's like wifing it out with her husband but she's also like wtf what about the guy who told me to wait???? And yeah.. Consider this theory while you laugh..

3. There are still characters here with common sense!
