“it’s not fair” seems to be a theme of the season especially in how the people around the bad kids don’t seem to realize that it’s not fair for them either.

cassandra doesn’t realize it’s not fair to kristen that she’s a teenager with a life and other responsibilities who is the sole being keeping a god alive.

the rat grinders don’t realize that it’s not fair that they get to xp level with critters while the bad kids have to save the world. they don’t take into account how each of them have died before and/or watched their best friends die while coming extremely close to death. the bad kids have experienced so much pain and exhaustion and they don’t even get the special treatment that the rat grinders have accused them of.

porter straight up ignores how gorgug is going to struggle with a 400% courseload because he took a hit to his pride. he sees a student so passionate that he’s willing to do four years of school in one and doesn’t think to cut him a little bit of slack.

it’s not fair that adaine grew up with shitty parents and now has to work eight hours a day to pay for her equipment in exchange for getting rid of them. it’s not fair that kristen has to dedicate everything to a god at 16 years old when she has so much else she needs and wants to do. it’s not fair that gorgug has taken on a 400% courseload because of porter’s pride. it’s not fair that fig is cursed to be unlucky and has something going on that she doesn’t understand at all. it’s not fair that he has to work so much harder to get into college and has to manage his entire party because they aren’t as passionate about school as he is. it’s not fair that fabian was abandoned by his mother and is so, so goddamn lonely or that he had to kill his father.

and while everyone else is whining about how unfair everything is (except for cassandra who is valid in her concerns), the bad kids have taken everything in stride. they don’t complain to anyone even though they absolutely have the right to, not even each other.

adaine refused to tell her dad about the things she needed, despite the fact that he would have helped, and got a job. kristen takes the blame for hurting cassandra and keeps dropping the ball because she can’t handle everything and feels so guilty. gorgug took the courseload because he’s so passionate about the things he wants to do and is trying his goddamn best to keep up with it. fig hasn’t talked to anyone about her confusing situation until it caused major problems because she was going to suffer it in silence. riz plasters on a smile and takes everything that he can get in hopes of it impressing schools. fabian hints to his friends that he wants people at his house but never confides in them or questions his parents even though they both had so many issues.

it’s especially not fair that none of them feel like they’re allowed to say it’s not fair. that they take everything in stride until they will someday break down.

Actually. The most fucked up line from the trailer is how the collectors collect things so they can "never pass". Because I mean like. The Implications of it.

In a show that's all about change and grief. Where the collectors' main enemies were the Titans, beings that notably made new life, instead of just preserving what was already there. Where the main villains motive is his selfish inability to let go of his big brother and their childhood dream, resulting in a brutal cycle of destruction for the grimwalkers and the near genocide of the boilings isles. Where the main character's conflict stems from being pulled between an old, familiar but unkind world where she has only one person whos fighting for her, and a new, strange, horrifying but ultimately accepting world where she's grown a family that's now in danger of being turned into mindless puppets.

This is the thematic backdrop against which the collector and his kind have been set.

In other words: my friend who's seen spoilers was right. This episode IS going to make me cry

i think the biggest thing that gets me about rag dolly is like

how marcella, since shes young and cant grasp big concepts like death yet, kinda. envisions death as going through a door to another room and never coming back out. shes like 7 so the abstract thinking makes sense, especially after the trauma of losing her mother and her pet dog and bird within a short time of eachother.

she specifically sees death as her loved ones going through her closet door, so shes very adamant on like. No One Going Near That Door. her dad briefly goes to open it in the first scene and she bursts into tears and has a meltdown. because if anyone else opens the door then they'll also die. bc shes baby so she just doesnt kno how to deal w those feelings aAgh djssksjs ;_;

and knowing that the playwrights wife was a well known psychologist and had a hand in writing the musical (at least with marcellas character + integration of jungian dream theory), it kinda makes sense that its sometimes is a bit too. real.

I hate my job so much. Everyone is an asshole for no good reason. Finance is shorthand all the fucking time. Service is full of people who don't want to do their job. The sales people are racist and the commercial sales people are all old men who make me extremely uncomfortable every time they come up to the desk. Every one here is nosy af trying to get all up in my buisness. I don't want to know these people. They all fall into 1 or more of the 3 categories. They are racist, an asshole, or gross old horny man. There are like 2 people here I actually like. The one is a lesbian and the other is an artist so I can actually relate to these people. Every damn day I'm drained. I'm the only one who actually cares about my job too it's really something watching a whole bunch a people not do their job bc they "dont feel like it". Also like...these people are all older than be by at least 10 years and they legit bully me like???? Why is a 30+ year old making fun of a 23 year old????? You're suppose to be a fucking adult not a god damn child. I've seen more well behaved children compared to these people so to call them childreb would be an insult to children!!! And just when I think I can make a difference, just when I finally think I'm getting the recognition for all my hard work as THE ONLY PART TIME receptionist. They take it away! No more employee council. They said "hey we listened to your legitimate and easy to solve concerns within your workplace and while we said we could do this in less than a month it has been 3 and still not a god damn thing will be done as we are disbanding the employee council so we can no longer hear your valid complaints of our buisness, go fuck yourself". The only reason I'm still here is bc I'm getting paid $10.50 and hour and I'm part time. If the pay was shit I would've been long gone. I'm only gonna stay till I move to Georgia but oooooh.
