How Riku has no idea that Riku means so much to Sora
An Analysis through mom
Riku has always been afraid of being forgotten and left behind by Sora. And this is how he is able get manipulated by Maleficent. She tells him his greatest fears, that Sora found new friends and doesn't care about him anymore. She gives him proof letting him watch Sora being silly and argue with Donald and Goofy.
But from day one as soon as Sora is separated, he wants to find Riku. All on his mind is finding Riku (and Kairi too) and when he finds Riku in Traverse Town he is happy and to make sure he isn't dreaming he goes up to him and pulls on his mouth.
Riku is glad he had found Sora and wants to continue to play the role of protector but when it seems Sora can handle himself he doesn't know where he is supposed to fit in. Sora has these new friends and now can handle himself, Riku is afraid of being forgotten.
But throughout kh1 Sora keeps trying to reason with Riku and it's important that his friend sees what's right. And when they close the door Riku tells Sora take care of Kairi.
Tumblr media
COM
He doesn't exactly do that.... The first thing he does is wanting to find Riku. That's on his mind. He ventures through castle oblivion in hopes he can find Riku. And when he faces Repliku he is so happy even though his thoughts of trying to find Riku is almost replaced with Naminé.
This Repliku is bitter about that and upset even saying how Sora never care about that or cared about him (being Repliku). But Riku hates how he feels towards his friend and how he wants his friend still even though he believes Sora has forgotten about him saying, You always have wormed your way into my heart," and Sora is confused by this statement.
And once Naminé tells Repliku to stop and he falls back Sora is completely overwhelmed by what happened to Repliku and what did Naminé do to him. This scene is especially good in the novel where it shows Sora holding Repliku.
Tumblr media
Later Repliku realizes how true Sora's feelings towards him are (how he cares for him as an individual not being a Riku) before leaving, still Sora is sad he is leaving and still wants to find him.
During Rebirth/Reverse when Repliku fades away into darkness he doesn't mind if he fades away but what he actually cares is that Sora remembers him. He doesn't want to get forgotten by Sora or get mixed up with the real Riku.
Kh2
Sora wakes up and forgets everything in Castle Oblivion and still has the same desire to find Riku. Throughout kh2 all on his mind is where is Riku, is he okay, I really miss him. And it's the most precious thing. He integrates Mickey about it and it isn't until Mickey accidentally slip up that Sora is so happy and jumps for joy.
Another time during land of the dragons when he finds out Riku been there he is excited because it meant he is okay and nearby. He didn't care that he might be with the organization, he just cares about Riku. During the novel, Sora talks about fighting Riku was so fun.
And finally when he actually sees him he goes on his knees crying because he misses him and is happy to finally be with Riku. In the novel he states how happy he is to be fighting by Riku's side and is just bashful about this.
Tumblr media
Riku doesn't care that much about himself and thinks less of himself on why anyone would actually care for him. And is surprised when Sora helps him up and brings him through the dark world. He admits in the novel, he is sad Sora is there and didn't want him to fade into the darkness but is glad he isn't alone. Sora seems to precious and important to Riku that he doesn't believe he deserves his friendship.
He is afraid of being forgotten but he accepts that he might not be worth it and as long as Sora is happy that is all that matters. He doesn't realize how much Sora truly cares about himself. They come to the conclusion they both will be okay because they're together.
Tumblr media
RC
Even though it's technically not them in recoded data Riku doesn't believe in his worth after how he messed up everything in the data worlds. Sora is sadden by how little he thinks of himself and thinks he is the only one trying to maintain their friendship.
When Data Sora hears him talking to him in the Olympus Coliseum worlds, he is glad to hear Riku's voice. Even when his keyblade gets destroyed Riku comes in and Sora is just happy that he is there. It means everything to him and he doesn't care that he has no way to fight, Sora was determined to save data Riku
Tumblr media
BBS
Even ten years prior when Terra gave Riku the ability to wield a keyblade, Sora immediately wants to know about Riku. He wants to know who that man was and if he knew him. In BBS it has them both care for each other. Riku admit how important Sora is to him and wishes to get stronger to protect him while Sora blatantly tells Aqua he likes Riku, he is his best friend. He seems to want to do everything with him and wouldn't hesitate to help him from darkness.
When Ven goes to Sora's heart, Riku notices something is wrong and knows how to help him. Without questioning it, he takes his advice even if it is strange.
Tumblr media
DDD
He goes through the exam because Riku felt like he needed to be tested, Sora didn't think either of them needed to. Sora really wanted to take the exam by his side and is a bit sad that Riku isn't there. However through his heart he feels connected to Riku and when things happen Sora knows Riku will be there.
Joshua asks Sora if he wants to give Riku a message, he tells him there's no need because he knows they will see each other soon. On Riku's side he goes through a personal journey of accepting himself despite everything he has done. He doesn't know if he deserves everyone but knows he is lucky to have Sora.
Tumblr media
KH3
Riku still doesn't see the full extent to how much Sora cares about him. Sora just wants to be with him through out the entire game. He is constantly worried about Riku especially going into the dark world. Sora wants to join him. And once they lose connection with Riku, Sora is sad and is like see this is why I should have gone.
And since discovering the Gummiphone being able to talk to Riku, Sora constantly thinks about calling Riku and just telling Riku about how cool this place is, when they went to Fransankyoto.
Riku is surprised when Sora comes in to save him the the dark realm. He's glad he is there but doesn't think much of it. At the pre battle Riku doesn't think he means that much to Sora, he's just like any of his other friends. He talks to Repliku and allows Sora to spent time with Kairi.
However Sora is questioning why Riku is alone there and seems to want to spend time with him. Then Riku and Sora are the only ones left. Sora breaks down. Riku wants Sora's happiness beyond anything else and reassures him with his words something only Riku can do. He feels better but still Riku doesn't think his life is that important and sacrifices himself. The expression Sora makes during this scene tells you everything. Sora is hurt that Riku is too doing this.
Tumblr media
Riku is extremely important to Sora that when trying to recover him, he is floating in Olympus like he is the most important person ever to Sora.
Riku doesn't believe he means much to Sora. He doesn't see how he's the one that Sora just wants to spend time with and searching for. He rather put Sora's happiness before his own and believes in Sora. He let him save Kairi because he believes in him and his own happiness.
Tumblr media
Mom
Riku thought it was Kairi who meant so much to Sora. He didn't believe it was him who was supposed to find Sora. That's why he was so shocked when the fairy godmother told him his dreams were the key and it was him who was supposed to dive to the Quadratum by following Sora's heart.
He didn't realize how important he was to Sora. He kept being selfishly selfless about this. Until he realizes it was him. He is the key. And Riku means so much to Sora, but he doesn't realize how much.
This could be a deep friendship or possibly something more, but he's very important to Sora and Riku just needs to realize it...

It’s heartbreaking to think that, by the end of Days, Roxas felt so betrayed by everyone around him to fully believe that no one—not even his best friends—would have cared if he was gone.
Tumblr media
For months, he questioned what was happening around him. Everyone around him acted strange, and it seemed like there were some things they were not telling him, but he still chose to trust them. That was until he found out that his best friends were keeping things from him, and the Organization, whom he’d always been loyal to until that point, was planning to get rid of him.
He ended up fighting with his best friend and running away, only to witness the death of his other best friend.
At that point, everything he ever cared about was lost, and he was so desperate that he embarked on a suicidal mission to destroy the Organization and free Kingdom Hearts, under the delusion that it would give him his old life back.
Except someone stopped him before he could. He got kidnapped and put into a simulation, where he had everything he had ever wished for—a normal life he gets to spend with his best friends.
For a brief time, everything seemed okay. He was happy.
That was until strange things started happening around him. He saw things no one else could, and started questioning his reality, only to find out it was fake. It was just an illusion to keep him at bay until he’d have to give up his life for another guy he barely knew, because apparently his life was much more worthy and important than Roxas’.
It didn’t matter how much he screamed and fought. No one was going to save him as he disappeared inside Sora.
He fought one last time, against the guy he had to give up his life for, and then he just gave up. He fully surrendered to the idea that he was just a part of Sora, and that “it really has to be [Sora]”.
No one cared about Roxas, anyway. Both the bad guys and the good guys wanted to get rid of him, and not even the people who cared the most about him truly believed he deserved his own life. He was just a Nobody, after all.
Except, it was not true.
Without realizing, during the time he was alive as his own person, he touched many people’s hearts.
Axel and Xion, his best friends, truly cared about him and just wanted to protect him from his fate. Xion would have wanted to be with him and Axel forever if fate hadn’t been so cruel to them. Axel’s deepest wish, after Roxas’ disappearance, was to bring him back.
Naminé, whom he only met briefly during his last seven days and shared his same fate, found a silver lining in believing they could be together (even if through Sora and Kairi) and held onto that promise of meeting him again and talking with him about everything.
Hayner, Pence and Olette immediately offered to help Sora save Roxas upon finding out their data selves were friends with him, and looked forward to the day they’d get to meet their new friend.
Sora himself, the guy Roxas had to give up his life for, was the first person to fully believe Roxas was his own person and deserved his own life, and he made it a priority to find a way to bring Roxas back.
Even some of the people who had been antagonistic with him during his life, like Saix and Ansem the Wise, helped to make sure Roxas could come back.
Tumblr media
It was so satisfying seeing him coming back in KH3 and recognizing that many people helped him return. Because Roxas was important, and many people did, in fact, miss him and worked hard to allow for his return.

Who are your favorite KH characters? Can you give like a top 10?
As all of you can see, this is one of them Tumblr Anon Asks (TM), where it is impossible for me to tell who sent it. It could be one of my followers, genuinely very interested in my great KH takes and wanting to hear more. It could be a random stranger who was bored and decided to send some asks in the meantime. Or it could be my good friend Jessie, who typed this as she sat next to me while we played Xenoblade at 2 am.
Who knows? It will probably remain a mystery forever. Anyway here are my top 10 favourite fictional gay people:

Story Summary: Eight years ago, the Destiny Islands fell to darkness. The royal family was viciously slain when Lord Xehanort and the sinister Organization XIII used dark magic to take the throne. Except...
There are rumors on the islands. Rumors that young Prince Sora may have survived.
When the prince's betrothed, Princess Kairi of Radiant Garden, offers a reward for his safe return, Riku decides to seize the opportunity to leave the doomed islands once and for all. At the same time, an orphan named Skye sets out to discover his forgotten past in the hopes of finding his family-and his future.
Kingdom Hearts Anastasia AU.
Ships: Sora/Riku/Kairi, Aqua/Terra, Roxas/Namine, Axel/Saix
Rating: G
Warnings: Angst, Trauma, Memory Loss, Violence, Harm to Children, Psycological Trauma
Chapter Summary: As Sora settles back into being royalty, Riku makes a drastic decision. Aqua wasn’t one to put much stock in miracles. In her important station as the governess to two young princesses, she took most things very seriously in the hopes that she could train her charges to do the same when they were older. And as the girls had grown, they dutifully followed in their beloved lady-in-waiting’s footsteps, with one glaring exception. A rumor, a myth, a fairy tale they’d both stubbornly clung onto even after so many crushing disappointments. She’d tried so many times to convince Kairi and Naminé alike to give it up, to stop believing in something that certainly couldn’t be true, in someone who by all accounts was almost certainly dead.  Except he wasn’t . And somehow, against all odds… that fairy tale, that miracle … was real .  Aqua wanted to doubt it, out of pride or something else entirely, she had no idea. But even she found herself quickly convinced of the young prince’s legitimacy as soon as she looked at him, as soon as he greeted her like she was an old friend instead of an intimidating stranger like the all the other imposters had. There was no denying it: this boy was Prince Sora.  Click the link to read more; all comments are appreciated!

Enjoy this sneak peak at my next Riku/Sora oneshot, "Return From the Brink"! I hope to have the full version out soon!
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Disney Town was always so lively and bright, filled with laughter, chatter, and various exclamations of glee. When they were hosting a party, that was heightened exponentially– especially a birthday party which was exactly the occasion today. Their dear Kairi was turning seventeen, and you could definitely tell she was the birthday girl based on her state of dress. Kairi’s short red hair had purple orchids woven through in vine-like patterns that matched her dark purple tank top with lilac fabric ruffles on the sleeves and over the chest that had all sorts of sparkles. The redhead was wearing white jeans with black boots to go along with it, and over everything she was wearing a sash that stated her position as birthday girl, a tiara, and all sorts of buttons and pins of the birthday variety that Xion and Naminé had enjoyed placing all over her between giggles. Riku had watched in amusement while they had all finished getting ready in one of the living areas of Disney Castle. Now, though, they were all gathered outside having fun. They were in between scheduled activities, allowing everyone to do what they wished. Terra, Aqua, Mickey, Minnie, and Isa were playing some kind of card game while observing everyone else. Donald and Goofy were working with Huey, Dewey, and Louie to make the tallest possible ice cream cone. Yen Sid and Merlin were running tests on the fireworks show they had prepared for later in the evening to ensure there wouldn’t be any hiccups. Kairi was enjoying a friendly dance-off with Lea– Kairi was being backed by Ventus and Naminé while Lea was backed by Roxas and Xion. Xion had originally seemed intent on backing Kairi, but she couldn’t switch her loyalties from one of her first best friends like that. Lea, Roxas, and Xion were inseparable as a trio, after all, especially now that they could all completely accept the fact that they had their own hearts and emotions. It had been an entertaining journey to watch Roxas, Xion, and Naminé figure out what it was like to have their own hearts, even if it had led to a few embarrassing moments of needing to explain societal norms. The sex talk had been uncomfortable for all involved, and no one let Lea forget that he was the one to make the innuendo that started it all. They had grown into themselves, though, and the three were flourishing. Everyone was.
Well, almost everyone.
Riku was sitting alone against the wall of a nearby building in the shade, silently watching everyone else enjoy themselves. He really did want to join in on the fun– he wanted to be able to truly smile with them– but he just couldn’t. All of these bright colors, the laughter, the joy… It all reminded him so much of Sora. Sora who was somewhere unknown, most likely by himself, and far out of Riku’s reach. His dear, sweet, sunshine Sora had been gone for a year and a half, and Riku hadn’t been able to relax much since he disappeared. He still made routine checks once a month to each world they knew of to ask the residents they knew if anyone had any leads on Sora, but it was always answered in the negative. Many of them had said that he was most likely gone permanently and had tried to convince Riku to focus on other things. He knew that they meant well, but he vehemently refused. Even the idea of giving up on Sora made his skin crawl. The only other ones who seemed as certain as him that Sora was even still alive were those who had literally lived in his heart at one point. Even so, it seemed that Kairi, Naminé, Ventus, and Xion were beginning to suspect they had been wrong. Roxas was the only one Riku could talk to without being told to stop looking and just to give up. Roxas had been a lifeline for Riku ever since Sora’s disappearance, and wasn’t that ironic? The person Riku had worked so hard to destroy and return to Sora now was one of the few things keeping the silveret sane.
.........
“... Riku?” came a shaky, disbelieving whisper.
Riku jumped up and whipped around, his aquamarine blown wide as they met confused and fearful sapphire. Riku couldn’t believe his eyes. He reached his hands up to scrub at his eyes before looking again to see that the boy was still there.

What do you think of Kairi, Xion, Naminé, and Aqua? Just general feelings, nothing too detailed if you don't want to-
like as a team, or individually?
as a team: oh how i WISH we could see it in canon. even if it were to end up borderline tokenism-y like with marvel. i would love to see the girl power squad idc i think they should hype each other up their color schemes together would be so pretty
kairi: my dearly beloved. yes the writers need to treat her better but so do the fans. she does have clearly defined character motivations and it’s weird to act like she doesn’t just bc they’re not ones that people like. she just wants stability and a home after having lost her memories and crash-landed somewhere as a toddler. she’s afraid of change but will do anything to stay with her friends in the midst of a fast-moving world because she’s lost them too many times. she’s a bit out of touch with them and sometimes clearly doesn’t know the right thing to do or say. i hope kh4 treats her kindly and gently and gives her more agency without trying to flatten her into a hashtag strong independent woman. i have high hopes for my little strawberry and wild daydreams about what i would love to see as her precise role in coming games. wrote some stuff in the tags here. i swear i thought i had more pre-written essays to draw on than that i know there’s so much i’m leaving out but i think i got the main points
xion: truly i will never be able to get over her story and especially her theme. what an incredibly well composed piece of music. honestly she and her theme were like a major factor as to me getting into this series. i’m very happy she’s alive after all that. i said a lot about her here already recently so i won’t burn myself out going into detail again. even that i feel like is a minor weak attempt at fully conveying my emotions regarding her. oh and a few more thoughts here
naminé: tbh thinking about chain of memories reduces me to a puddle but like in a bittersweet way as opposed to the pure bitterness of days. like sora’s interactions with her… their relationship even if it was brief and based on an illusion…the writing and animation and voice acting was legit so good man. i’m a wreck. nami is so beautiful and strong and horribly horribly sad but she gets overlooked… the thing is that even if she has people who love her she’s still nobody’s first choice. she doesn’t have her own place to go. she’s still lonely…
aqua: MAN she’s so interesting.. the way she’s carrying on eraqus’ legacy in both good and bad ways… the way she was corrupted after wandering a distorted world alone for a decade… the way she’s headstrong and determined and fights so hard yet can hardly make a difference as her world falls down around her… the way she’s incredibly strong and proud yet you see her once-firm core begin to shake as time passes on… not entirely related but i hope we get to see her (and the other two) (and kairi as her student!) visit the ruins of scala ad caelum bc they’re the last ones carrying on that legacy

Naminé fic snippet!
“This is my favorite one yet.”
Roxas held up the drawing so they could see. The colored pencil marks blended together to depict himself, Xion, and Lea embracing in the Keyblade Graveyard.
Xion nodded. “It really is like a memory on paper.”
Naminé blushed slightly and clutched her sketchbook. As always, Twilight Town was colored in a lovely red sunset. The trio met up in the usual spot every day to sift through memories in hopes of finding clues about Sora.
“How about you, Naminé?”
Naminé looked at Xion and tilted her head, blonde hair falling over her shoulder.
“Which drawing is your favorite?” Xion clarified.
“I…” don’t have one, she began to say, then hesitated. There was a picture that stood out to her more than any other. She opened her sketchbook and flipped through various drawings of the party on Destiny Islands, ending on a page of Sora and Kairi sitting together on the paopu tree, watching the sun.
“I like this one.”
Xion’s expression softened. “That was such a beautiful day.”
“The three of us finally got to go to the beach together,” added Roxas.
For a moment, Naminé thought he was talking to her.
“We did!” Xion beamed. “Axel kept his promise after all.”
Oh. Of course.
Naminé quietly finished drawing the last memory for the day—Roxas, Xion, Kairi, and  Sora fighting together. When it was done, she gathered up her colored pencils and Xion photographed the new sketchbook entries.
“I’ll send these to everyone in the group chat later. See you tomorrow!” Xion waved, leaving to go back into town.
“Goodbye.” Naminé waved back with a small smile.
Roxas checked his Gummiphone, then looked up.
“Hey, it sounds like Hayner, Pence, and Olette are on their way over—”
“Oh, right.” She stood, head lowered. “I’ll go-”
“No, it’s okay. Actually I was gonna ask if you wanted to hang out with us?”
Naminé seemed slightly stunned at the invitation, but agreed.
“I—Yes.”
I must have made him feel guilty.
“Pence said they’ve got summer homework, but if it’s anything like last time we’ll probably just-” he trailed off and gave a small laugh. “Well, odds are we’ll end up going to see a movie or something instead.”
Naminé smiled, but felt a pang of sadness in her chest.
He’s so…
Normal.
Roxas put his Gummiphone back in his pocket. “It’s nice, huh? Bein’ able to do whatever we want for a change.”
“…It is.”
“So what do you want to do?”
Naminé thought carefully, lacing her fingers together. “I want to keep drawing memories. If I find Sora, I’ll finally feel like my powers can be used for something good.”
Roxas blinked. “That’s… I was thinking more like… ‘go get ice cream’...or something.”
“Oh.”
“Did someone say ice cream?”
A hand pulled aside the fabric that draped across the entrance to the usual spot, and Roxas looked over as someone suddenly poked their head through.
“Pence! Geez, thanks for giving me a heart attack.”
Pence walked in and handed a blue ice cream bar to Roxas as Hayner and Olette followed.
“Ooooh Roxas was scared~!” teased Hayner.
Roxas grinned and opened the wrapper. “Who, me? Not a chance.” He pointed to the trophy in the corner of the room. “I’m the ‘toughest guy in Twilight Town’, remember?”
They laughed, and Pence noticed Naminé.
“Oh hey! Who’s your friend?”
“Naminé.”
“That’s a cool name.”
She smiled in surprise. “Thank you.”
The tracks above them rumbled loudly as a train passed.
“Hey that reminds me; we picked a topic for our paper,” said Olette.
Roxas shook his head. “Here it comes...”
“The seven tourist attractions of Twilight Town!” interrupted Pence. He gestured dramatically, as if advertising for a commercial. “Popular sightseeing destinations for world travelers passing through the Realm Between!”
Roxas accusingly pointed his ice cream stick. “The whole ‘other worlds’ thing is still technically a secret, Pence.”
“We know, we know.” Hayner folded his arms. “But we sure do get a lot of visitors nowadays.”
Naminé looked at them curiously. “What are the attractions?”
Olette waved for everyone to follow. “C’mon, we’ll show you!”
And some bonus moments I thought were worth sharing:
“Hey, the fun’s not over yet!” Pence reassured. “Attractions Three through Five coming up next.”
“Can you really have three at the same place? That feels like cheating…” asked Roxas.
“As long as we can prove we went out and researched we’ll get full points,” said Olette.
They arrived at Station Heights, where the clocktower stretched into the sunset sky above.
“Three in one!” Pence began narrating theatrically again. “Transportation, sightseeing, and a gift shop!”
“Because who doesn’t want a keychain that says ‘I ‘Struggled’ in Twilight Town’,” said Roxas.
Hayner folded his arms. “They didn’t think that one through.”
“Hey, what happens if you put one of those keychains on your Keyblade?” asked Pence.
Roxas made a face. “I don’t know. It doesn’t work like that—”
Just then, his Gummiphone rang, and his expression grew serious.
“Hang on, this might be important.”
He tapped the screen.
“Hey, Donald, Goofy. What’s up?”
“We’ve got something real important to share with ya-” started Goofy.
Donald burst into a hurried explanation. “Rikuwenttoanewworld!Andhe’sgonnafindSora-”
“Woah what? Slow down!”
“We’ve got a lot of phone calls to make!” yelped Donald. “Because Riku found out where Sora is!”
Naminé froze.
“He did?! That’s great news!”
Hayner, Pence, and Olette high-fived.
“So are we heading out? Where to?”
“No! It’s top secret!” quacked Donald.
“We’re just supposed to tell you to stop what you’ve been doin’,” explained Goofy.
“Gotcha. Well if there are any more top secret updates give me another ring, all right? I want to be the first to know.”
“We will!” said Goofy.
“Now hang up already!” said Donald.
The call ended, and the others laughed.
“Hey, that’s really awesome,” said Hayner, putting a hand on Roxas’ shoulder.
“So Sora’s going to be okay?”
“Of course! He’s gonna be hitting the beach with us in no time at all.”
“That’s what I like to hear!”
~ And later, after the other three leave…
They ended up in a small park area lined with a wooden fence.
“Oh, I think I’ve been here before.”
“It’s called Sunset Hill,” said Roxas. “The view isn’t quite as good as the one from the clocktower, but it's probably a lot safer.”
She walked to the fence and stared out at the sky.
“So?” he asked. “Is it as good as the one from your favorite drawing?”
“What?”
“The sunset.”
“Oh… yes. It’s beautiful.” Disappointment stained her voice.
“It’s… Something’s wrong, isn’t it? Wait, was it supposed to be pink?”
Naminé felt tears threatening to spill over, and she turned away.
Roxas shifted.
He’s just trying to be nice. I made him feel bad. He’s cool and normal and I’m—
“Sorry,” he said. “Axel says I always press the wrong buttons.”
“It’s not anything you did, Roxas. It’s just, that’s not why I picked that drawing.”
“Oh. Why did you, then?”
She took a deep breath.
“Remember when we joined hearts with Sora and Kairi?”
“Of course. How could I forget?”
“We said, we’d be together every day. And-and I was so happy because I’d always been alone, but then—Maybe even if no one wanted to choose me, if I was part of Kairi then… then someone would.”
Part of her was mortified for admitting it, but she continued, tears falling.
“But they weren’t together every day. And now I’m back. I’m back and I don’t know what to do. I can’t even force you to spend time with me anymore. …Because, they found where Sora is.”
To be continued..?

I'm really thinking about a Magical "girl" KH Au fanfic
Girl is in quotations cause the ones who are magical girls are both males and females
The MG are known as Light/Warriors of Light for now I haven't come up with a better name. They are just light
Transformation Part
The keyblades are how they fight/use magic. The outfits are fancy robes probably with zippers, belts, and buttons but with colors that fit them. Riku old outfit was yellow but his new one is silver/grey cause it's like he's in between dark and light
Sora is Red. Xion is purple. Ven is green. Strelitzia is orange. Ienzo is blue. Kairi is pink.
The girls have more dress like look than the males.
Everyone has an item that has to do with the transformation. Everyone has this. Riku is a heartless charm. Kairi's is her charm. Sora's is his necklace. Ven is his Wayfinder. Xion is Seashell. Ienzo is his book/lexicon. Strelitzia is her necklace.
Character files I figured out undercut
Riku part
Riku is the first light and he had the ability since he was very young and he fights the darkness and keeps his precious Sora safe
Oh yeah it's Soriku
But it's too much since he is all alone and is constantly targeted so he gives this object that relates to him being light to Sora (it's the necklace)
He thinks they won't target him anymore and it works...... Kinda?
That all happened when they were younger in junior high
Riku at 15 goes to HS away from Sora, Sora is sad. He is too. He tries to cheer him up with ice cream; mini date.
Finally present day Riku is 16 and has been feeling darkness in his heart. The Bad group has been using him. And turns out he's still Targeted and can transform still except his keyblade is different it's not the kingdom key ever since he gave the necklace to Sora.
He works for the bad group and kinda blackmailed they will hurt Sora.
He can control darkness and some heartless like he uses the heartless to save Sora once
Lauriam's Part
Marluxia/Lauriam is in a similar situation where his sister is being threatened if he doesn't help them.
Lauriam and Riku are friends. Lauriam goes by Marluxia when with bad group, Lauriam is his civilian name. Lauriam and Elrena teases Riku about liking Sora at one point after he places Sora in his dorm while he fights off darkness that tries to hurt him.
Sora Part
Sora is normal and had these dreams where darkness takes over light of the worlds. A voice keeps telling awaken some key all the time. Naminé is the voice.
Now at 15 transfers to a high school to be closer with Riku, Ven (his cousin), Kairi and Xion (Kairi's friend)
He surprises Riku, but Riku is more worried that he's there since everything happening on Riku's end.
When Sora gets the ability he transforms using the Kingdom Key also Riku's old form which questions Riku.
Strelitzia Part
She is Lauriam's sister. But also the only one fighting light at first. She often crosses with Riku and tries to stop him (since he is forced to do things for the bad group). She knows Riku does it and he is aware of her identity. Lauriam doesn't know of her involvement.
Elrena's Part
Same with Marluxia, her civilian name is Elrena and her bad group name is Larxene. She thinks the group is stupid and is with Marluxia a lot. She wants to take it over for herself because that would really make the main villain mad.
All the lights in the order they awaken
¹Riku, ²Strelitzia, ³Sora, ⁴Kairi, ⁵Ienzo, ⁶Ventus, and ⁷Xion
I was originally going to include Vanitas instead of Ienzo but decided to make him on the bad side but similar to some of the others where it's not his choice. His involvement will be similar to the novel/game where he is in constant pain and is promised to feel better if he helps
It would be interesting for someone that likes to research/science to be on the Light Party even though he technically doesn't have an official keyblade.
These are majority of the character files I figured out.
Calling this au Magical Kingdom Key Sora for nos

Please do spill the tea about how certain people are wrong about Xion's sacrifice no longer mattering after she was brought back
(Hi anon I'm so sorry it took me forever to answer this ask! I was trying to find that one interview from Nomura, couldn't find it, and then forgot about this ask 😅)
Thank you anon for giving me the opportunity to talk about Xion my beloved
I don't see what the issue is with Xion (plus Nami and Roxas) returning. I don't think I've ever seen anyone claim that the wayfinders shouldn't have come back, so why can't that extend to RNX? I explained in a previous post why it is so important for them to be considered their own people separate from Sora and Kairi. And this is far from the first time we've had a character sacrifice themself only for them to be brought back later
Goofy died Sora stabbed himself to free Kairi's heart from his but five minutes later he's returned to life because of the power of his dear friend:
Sora: "I was lost in the darkness. I couldn't find my way. As I stumbled through the dark, I started forgetting things—my friends, who I was. The darkness almost swallowed me. But then I heard a voice—your voice. You brought me back."
And in KH3:
Sora: "It's all right! You can stop now! It's all right . . ."
Roxas: "Xion."
Both Sora and Xion were lost, but Kairi and Roxas called them back. Sora's sacrifice happened in the very first game. This isn't just fan wish fulfillment giving us beloved characters back. KH1 set the precedent: when we lose ourselves, our bonds with our friends can help us find the way again.
As for the memory loss: why are Xion, Roxas, and Naminé even characters anyway? Because Sora's sacrifice had consequences that were explored for several games. This wasn't just an immediate reversal where Sora dying was never brought up again. And similarly Xion's death isn't the only possible way a sacrifice can be explored, and Xion's return doesn't negate the fact that there were still consequences from her death.
The consequences from Xion's sacrifice have mostly been explored in—guess what—Re:Coded! The game everyone claimed was skippable before KH3 came out! Data Sora may not be regular Sora but we get to see how all these other hearts inside his are influencing the pain he feels. It's not a perfect exploration of Xion's pain and I wish that we could have had Xion actually appear and talk to Data Sora like Data Roxas did. DDD later showed glimpses of Xion and Sora again feeling hers and Roxas's pain. A character being returned to life doesn't just automatically erase the pain of that sacrifice. The parts of Recoded and DDD that show us her pain don't just become irrelevant now that Xion is back. (Just replay the KH2 prologue with the ending scene from Days in mind. Hurts so much more)
I think what some people don't like about Xion's return is that she's remembered, everything's been wrapped up neatly, it's like there are no consequences anymore. Once her name is said and her hood is off, Axel remembers her pretty instantly, and Roxas doesn't seem to have any memory issues when he shows up. Unfortunately KH3 had so many things to cover and not enough time to fully explore everything that Xion's return does feel a bit easy. And for future games, there so many other characters that are more connected to The Larger Plot that Xion's story might be pushed to the side right now. So while yes, the story absolutely could give more focus on the long term effects of being forgotten, there is rightful criticism to say that Xion's return happened too quickly at the very end of KH3 when everyone else also needed to return at the same time, which is just going to make everything feel rushed.
There is so much potential to explore and we've only had a brief bit of MOM and part of Remind that shows us what is happening after KH3. There is still opportunities to show how the consequences are still affecting Xion even after her return. Do Axel and Roxas remember her perfectly now? How does Xion feel about the natural memory loss that just happens with life? I think the reason why people say her sacrifice didn't matter is because so far the games released after KH3 have been prequels/midquels that fill in backstory before BBS and those questions haven't been answered (yet, hopefully)
But to say her sacrifice didn't matter isn't understanding that KH is a story where people get second chances. People who are lost can be found again.
(And its not like every single character ever gets returned to life. Repliku is probably not returning and Vanitas's fate is still up in the air imo (though personally I would not mind if they both returned). DR and UX also have loads of characters who died brutal deaths and probably aren't coming back if you want that angst. I understand that what makes Xion in particular so compelling is how much time is spent developing her character compared to DRUX's dead characters. But its something)
(and to anyone about to say "but that Nomura interview where he said he changed his mind about RNX returning" please link to the interview and I will be happy to discuss it)
(also I recognize kh3's flaws but this is NOT an invitation for anyone to rant on my post about how bad you think the game may be)

Kingdom Hearts - Christmas Hearts
A Kingdom Hearts Christmas one-shot that I posted on FFN and AO3 two years ago. I figure 'tis the season to share it here.
Summary: The Guardians of Light celebrate Christmas at the Land of Departure.  They open presents, take pictures, tell stories, have a magical airstepping snowball fight, and enjoy being together on the most magical day of the year.
————————————————
Sunlight shone through the stained glass windows into the castle on the Land of Departure, reflecting off of the ornaments and tinsel that decorated a magnificent pine tree that was erected in the audience chamber.  Several gift-wrapped boxes sat under the tree, enough for a large group of people.  Fourteen stockings were hooked onto the railing on one side of the chamber, each colored and embroidered to indicate whose it was.  There were also two smaller stockings for Jiminy Cricket and Chirithy.  A large stellated crystal of Orichalcum was mounted on top of the tree as the star.
The castle’s clock tower bell rang, echoing throughout the castle to announce the morning.  Smaller bells chimed in tune with classic carols.  Each of the castle’s occupants woke up, some with the aid of Chirithy, who bounced on top of the late sleepers until they were finally up.  Ventus was the first one down to the chamber, still the physically-youngest and most evidently childish-at-heart.  He was joined by: Sora and Kairi; Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, with Jiminy tagging along in Mickey’s pocket; Aqua and Terra; Roxas and Xion; Riku and Naminé; and Lea and Isa.
“Morning, guys,” Lea said, yawning.  “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas!” everyone replied.
“Jeez, Ven.  You think your Chirithy could bounce any harder?” Lea complained.  “It felt like he was this close to breaking my ribs.”
Chirithy appeared in Ventus’ arms in a puff of smoke.  “If you’d rather skip opening presents, then I won’t bother waking you up next time,” he remarked.  Ventus laughed while Isa chuckled.
“Well, since we’re all down here, why don’t we see what Santa put in our stockings?” Aqua suggested.
Everyone scrambled to their stockings and took out the gifts that were stuffed inside.  They all had candy and (with the exception of Goofy and Jiminy) chocolate; there was a Santa hat and a jingle bell sash for everyone; the Keyblade wielders all got a new Keychain that would give their Keyblades a holiday-themed form; everyone had a chibi plush doll that looked like them; Jiminy’s stocking had a brand new umbrella, while Chirithy’s included a festive cape and Lux pouch.  They looked up and said “Thanks, Santa,” sure that the jolly man in red could hear them.
Next, Aqua passed presents around to everyone.  Sora’s gift from Riku was a digital watch that would sync up to the time zones of each world.  Sora and Kairi traded gifts, Sora giving Kairi a Crystal Regalia + bracelet and Kairi giving Sora a Cosmic Belt.  Sora gifted Donald a new hockey stick and Goofy a new tackle box.  Mickey gave Riku a new jacket.  Terra gifted Ventus a Nintendo Switch.  Roxas gave each of his friends a Struggle Bat and accompanying gear.  Naminé gave everyone a scrapbook filled with her drawings of each of them.  Kairi gave Naminé a new set of colored pencils; Riku gave her a new satchel for her drawing tablet and utensils; Sora gave her a new expansion pack for her tabletop RPG (Tidus had introduced it to her at school, and she turned out to be a surprisingly good DM).  Lea gave Isa a tea set.  Isa gave Xion a fantasy romance novel.  Mickey gave Jiminy a new journal while Sora gave him a new scrapbook.  The Keyblade wielders as well as Donald received a book on magic spells and lore from Merlin.  Every human-sized person received a GummiPad from Ienzo.  Donald received a Junior Woodchucks craft from his nephews and a first aid kit from Webby Vanderquack, the latter of which made Sora and Goofy laugh out loud.  Leon sent them all Christmas sweaters.  Sora found a gift from Ariel that contained a music box.
They sorted their gifts and disposed of the wrapping paper, then put on their sweaters, sashes, and Santa hats (and Chirithy’s Christmas cape and pouch).  Sora held his Gummiphone on a selfie stick and took a group photo in front of the Christmas tree, then they all took separate pictures.
“You met Santa?” Ventus asked, amazed, as the group sat around the dining room table eating their breakfast of omelettes, French Toast, and home fries.
“Yeah.  We first went there when I was fifteen,” Sora recounted.  “First we’d gone to Halloween Town, then saw Jack Skellington preparing for Christmas instead of Halloween.  He then led us to Christmas Town to meet Santa.”
“Sora got scolded,” Donald teased.
“Really?  I would have thought you would have a permanent spot on the Nice List,” Terra remarked.
Sora chuckled awkwardly.  “Well, he brought up the one time I told everyone that I didn’t believe in Santa Claus,” he admitted sheepishly.
“WHAT?!” Ventus and Xion blurted.  Aqua gasped, similarly shocked.
“It was Riku’s fault in the first place,” Sora grumbled.  Riku and Kairi laughed.
“So there’s a Halloween Town and a Christmas Town?  I think I would like to visit those places someday,” Aqua said.
“Maybe we’ll take you to visit next year,” Goofy suggested.
“Great idea,” Roxas said.
“I don’t suppose you had Christmas when you were in the Organization,” Riku remarked.
“Well, we got a day off once a year,” Isa explained.  “That was on the twenty-fifth of December, aligned with Twilight Town’s calendar.  I addressed this fact when I noticed it, and Xemnas permitted a single day with no mission.  I suppose that his intention of giving us a break on Christmas Day was to remind us of what we lacked in order to give us further encouragement to complete Kingdom Hearts.”
Everyone fell silent as they processed that statement, reflecting on the true purpose of the Organization that Xemnas/Xehanort had intended.  Donald crossed his arms and sank back into his chair.  “Humbug,” he muttered.
“You could say that again,” Roxas agreed.
They found more cheerful topics to discuss for the rest of breakfast and for much of the morning, including: how Terra, Ventus and Aqua celebrated Christmas before the Mark of Mastery exam (the tactful way in which Riku described the turning point); how Christmas was celebrated on Destiny Islands, in Daybreak Town (for Ventus and Chirithy to answer), and (mostly for the benefit of Kairi and her still-hazy memories) in Radiant Garden; and what everyone’s favorite Christmas songs were.
“Hey, guys!” Lea called, getting everyone’s attention.  He pointed out the window.  “You see all this snow outside?  I’d say it looks perfect for a snowball fight.”
Sora, Riku and Roxas grinned.  “You’re on!” Sora said.  They all put on coats, gloves, and boots and ran outside.  There was four inches of snow on the ground, a shining white blanket that covered the mountain islands.  Snow also covered the roof and window sills of the castle.  As soon as he was outside, Sora did a backflip and pushed himself off of the wall, launching himself across the forecourt.  He packed together a snowball on landing and spun around to throw it at Riku, who was making a snowball of his own to retaliate.
Everyone spread out, going all in on the attack.  They each sometimes focused on one adversary in particular, and other times briefly grouped up to gang up on someone.  They all ran around to dodge snowballs and attack from different angles.  Sora, Riku, Roxas, Aqua, and Ventus leapt through the air and ran up and down the side of the castle to take the snowball fight to the skies, leaving the others to watch from the ground and laugh as their friends glided and airstepped all over the place and snowballs arced through the air (although Donald regretted this when a stray(?) snowball dropped down and hit him square in the face).  Everyone on the ground got back into the action when Naminé, who up to that point had simply sat on the steps in front of the door and watched, threw a snowball at Terra from behind.
When they were all tired from the snowball fight, they stumbled back inside, laughing, and took off their outdoor clothing.  As they passed through the foyer, Kairi caught Sora by the hand and stopped him, then pointed up to show him that they were standing under the mistletoe.  They laughed and then kissed.  “Merry Christmas,” they said to each other.  After seeing this, the other couples decided to follow their example, and Riku and Naminé, Roxas and Xion, Aqua and Terra, and Lea and Isa shared their own kisses under the mistletoe.
The gang was truly glad to be together on the day that was all about sharing the light in their hearts.  It truly was the most wonderful time of the year.

Okay, I'm speculating more about Xion's deal at this point, and it's embarrassing that it's taken me to Day 117 to realize at least some of it:
First of all, why was I even debating on my earlier theorizing post who Xion's "origin person" might be? Of course it's Sora! Why? BECAUSE SHE WIELDS THE KINGDOM KEY (of course, there's the whole thing in the KH1 journal about Riku being the one meant to originally wield the Kingdom Key, but I'm gonna set that aside for now, because he's got a different Keyblade at this point in the story- Kingdom Key is now Sora's). I must've seriously turned off my brain, or just overthought things to the point of exploding, but it took the "Xion's Keyblade" day where she and Roxas were waving it around for me to go "oh. OH." And just... have a bit of a facepalm moment.
As for her origins, I believe Axel and Saïx's more recent conversation gives me grounds to believe she is not a Nobody of typical origin. It's more obvious, in retrospect. If my "Sora had another heart" theory had any merit, than she would've been found around the same time as Roxas, but it was weeks (I think) later for Xion to be taken into the organization. Saïx claims that Xion found her origins in Castle Oblivion along with Naminé, which is a place associated with Naminé and her memory-scrambling abilities. Given that both Roxas and Xion have their memories scrambled as, what I can assume, a byproduct of Sora losing his own memories in CoM (therefore preventing the true Sora Nobodies from being able to remember their origin life), I can assume Roxas has the majority of Sora's memories, and Xion likely exists to house a specific kind of memory that may or may not be important to Sora's being (At this point that "specific kind of memory" seems to be founded in Sora's friends and overall childhood nostalgia, given that Xion can only recall staring out at the ocean with "someone," likely referencing times where Sora, Kairi, and Riku would stare out at the sea from either the Paopu tree or the docks, as demonstrated in KH1). Anyway, why would Xion exist like this?
Well, this could've been because of external manipulation in some way that I couldn't begin to explain, in terms of Sora's memory separation/restoration process. Xion might have been made in a semi-artifical way, as a means to an end. What end? Dunno.
Alternatively, she may not be a result of external manipulation, and moreso that there are memories Sora was previously unaware of that manifested itself into a being to house those repressed/forgotten memories- Xion. More loose of an additional factor, but it would fit with her all-black color scheme. I also just think it would be neat to have a duality factor for her and Roxas: Blonde-haired Roxas as the open emotions and memories, the conscious. Black-haired Xion as the hidden emotions and memories, the unconscious. It'd be a cool way to personify aspects of an individual's psyche in a Jungian-esque way, as well as a follow-up of my current hunt of "let's spot Sora's repressed negative feelings!" ("Happy faces," "Sora's forgotten memories in CoM," "Anti Form," he's pretty much got a potentially concerning Example per game, so far)
The second explanation is probably not what the narrative is going for, but it'd be neat.
Before I forget, branching off of that last post regarding Xion's hood that apparently has lore relevance... the only explanation I can think of is that her face can change, and she's hiding it for whatever reason, or Roxas' POV makes it look like she's hiding her face for whatever reason. If we're going off the logic that she's a Sora Nobody, perhaps her face looks like Sora in those moments she obscures her face? It'd be a strange power, if you can even call it that, as Roxas has done nothing of the sort, nor has any other Nobody changed to look like their original people (I have no idea about the other guys, admittedly- I've never seen their original selves, but Roxas doesn't look like Sora, sooo...). Another potential point for the "she's not a natural Nobody," theory, perhaps.
We'll see how accurate I was with this, later...
Side ramble...
I love how Kingdom Hearts utilizes personified characters (Nobodies) meant to demonstrate some aspects of a character's personality in a compartmentalized breakdown of their psyche, while still having those characters contain personalities and arcs of their own. It's so neat holding Roxas and Sora next to each other in my head and just going "hm, and what could that mean?" For example, on the following "Vacation" day, I thought it was interesting how Xion and Axel were able to follow some of their own desires (if I take what they did on their day off as truth, but anyway), like Axel lazing around unapologetically and Xion having the motivation to train and get stronger, while Roxas couldn't find a drive for himself outside of his friends. It was both sad and endearing, and compounds quite nicely on what can be observed in Sora's previously demonstrated self-sacrificing traits. He's too wrapped up in others to figure out his own wants.

Opinions of KH2 novels that happen that are funny/interesting
I saw a lot of sections recently
Riku Axel & Namine are a trio
Their interactions are nice
It's something I didn't know I needed
I love seeing them do stuff in the background while Sora does basic (game moments), instead of focusing what happens in the games during Disney worlds, it shows them
Axel being a grey character
He doesn't know himself if he's bad or good
But some of the others noticed it and gladly call him their friend.
Also when Goofy "dies" he helps him to see if he's alright and even gives him a potion
Instead of initially kidnapping Kairi, he does so with good interest in mind, thinking she's in danger because the organization is after her— Riku and Naminé were going to her but got caught up in a battle with Saïx.
Then Saïx fought Axel and won, obtaining Kairi.
Also Naminé helps heal Axel after he lost to Saïx.
I love his banner with Riku
At one point Mickey is like, I'm glad you're not alone Riku, Riku responds, He's my friend, but then Axel says, Nobodies don't have friends, it's not exactly word for word, but similar.
Axel comments to Riku
Riku eating ice cream and Axel is like is it good, You're like a little kid even though you look like a mean old man. Then Axel steals his ice cream and Riku like bruh really dude there is plenty of ice cream in there.
After Land of Dragons, Axel tells Riku, Seeing Sora made you that happy, and Riku is like I don't feel like telling you. Then afterwards he's like it's creepy how you smile with Ansem's face.
Mickey and Goofy can smell
So Pluto is in the novel sometimes around Axel and of course Kairi. When Mickey first sees Axel after Riku leaves, he sniffs him and is like oh it's you I thought it was Riku but you smell like Pluto.
Then later when Axel helps Goofy after his "death" he is like you smell like Pluto and at this point Axel is like AGAIN!?!?
Maleficent and Riku
Honestly I find this kinda charming and kinda nice.
At one point she calls Pete useless and how Riku was so much helpful and even got him what he was trying to do and gave him Kairi. She then admits that she was using him, but it made her kinda sad or a "thorn in her heart" that he left her without hesitation.
Then at one point Riku goes to see Maleficent and Maleficent is like oh you're alive and he says I see you came back from the dead. And it's great exchange.
He wanted to see if she'd fight the nobodies/ organization 13. But when he goes to her he wonders if he is betraying Mickey by doing that and he thinks it's all for Sora.
Riku opinion of DiZ request
So DiZ got Riku to do some things... that isn't great and afterwards he wonders if that was right.
After seeing how DiZ treated Naminé and views nobodies he is like Should I have fought Roxas? He was thinking Should I have destroyed him for him to go back to Sora? What if there was another way so he could still be here?
And I wanted to point it out that he obviously questions whether it was right and he was just following DiZ because he wanted Sora back and thought it was the ONLY way and much would have rather Roxas to stay as a person too.
DiZ offers Naminé ice cream
At one point Naminé goes back to the mansion in the middle of KH2 and she finds DiZ which she is surprised by. DiZ was harsh and mean to her at the beginning of the game and is weary of him,
But this dude straight up offers her sea salt ice cream like he didn't want her destroyed or want Riku to get rid of her (which Riku was like NAHHH I won't because he saw them as people and Sora was waking up). And then he says there are plenty more, you can share with friends 😀😁 LIKE COMPLETE SWAP
Saïx fight Riku and Naminé
First when Riku and Naminé is fighting Saïx while Axel gets Kairi, Saïx slaps Naminé and causes her to fly back.
Then he is like oh you're trying to protect your home from darkness (assuming he might corrupt it or by getting Kairi) and then he's like but you did that once before. LIKE 😭😭😭 THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR
And then he tells Riku he sold his Soul for Power. JUST wow, great character but man is he cold sometimes.
I never want Saïx to touch Naminé again though... Saïx over here hurting Axel and Naminé.
Donald and Goofy no longer tease about Kairi
So... In KH2 there are moments where Donald and Goofy tease Sora about Kairi with possible romantic implications
(though I'm not exactly sure since that is the English version which could have some transaction errors and there's a lot of added romantic moments because of English version)
In Halloween town, Sora also imagines himself dancing with Kairi when Jack and Sally dance, but in the novels none of these things happen. Donald and Goofy don't tease him about Kairi.
Shang and Mulan = Sora and Riku
So in land of the dragons when Sora sees Mulan and Shang he tears up and thinks of himself and Riku cause he missed him.
This does happen in the game, but it's more explicit here that he missed him and thinks of Riku and himself when he sees Shang and Mulan.
Sora always wanted to fight by Riku's side
In the novels throughout the ending battle Sora is so excited and is just glad to fight by Riku's side and he had always wanted to have him as an ally.
He states how he always hoped and dreamed he'd be able to.
He feels so excited and just glad to be able to do so.
Also want to point out that they feel better together and they're okay in the dark realm because they have the other
Sora doesn't care as long as Riku is okay
At one point Sora says, so what if he's in organization 13, it's fine.
Donald is like it's not they're a bad group of people.
This just shows how much he cares about him.
Axel pretends to betray Riku and Naminé to help Kairi
He told them he was going to and would give them their location and reassures them that he doubt Xemnas would come over.
And Xemnas ends up being the one going over....

3, 9, and 18
(two of my favorite fics of yours are Maybe Some Things Are That Simple and Not Your Sacrifice. Wholesomeness, heartbreak, and Xion: my three favorite things)
3. What’s a fic idea that you have but haven’t written yet?
there's a few of these floating around but the most well developed is probably my Nobody Ven AU
so the short version is Castle Oblivion gets a little confused and ends up letting Naminé into the Chamber of Waking, because the Castle was activated to keep a keyblade wielder safe, and Naminé—who has keyblade potential via Kairi—is very much not safe. it then mistakes Xemnas for Terra and lets him find Waking, with both Naminé and Ven inside. Ven's heart is occupied with Sora things (or I guess it'd be Roxas things at this point) but Xemnas is able to wake him up without it, i.e. as a nobody. and since the Organization happens to be two members short after Marluxia and Larxene's betrayal...
(side note: do you know how hard it is to come up with a good Organization name for Ventus? it's hard. it's quite easy to find bad ones though! I ultimately settled on Sunvext, which I do really like but really ended up going with because it's the only reasonable option I found in however long I spent looking for one)
anyway, my goal with this AU is a lot of character exploration, mostly of identity and trauma and how they interact
I want to dive into the identity stuff that comes with Xemnas not being Apprenticenort who was in turn neither Terra nor Xehanort despite being made from both of them. Naminé being around also gives me more options to explore re: Xemnas and the memories he doesn't have, especially since she's been canonically shown to be able to reach out and connect to Terra before he was restored, and that sure has implications when it comes to Xemnas
having Ven's nobody around gives me some interesting things to work with re: him having first had Vanitas's and then Ven's heart both pulled out of him and him trying to figure out what's even left behind for him to be. and also since he's in the Organization, Roxas also being there not only opens up more identity issues but also, Roxas literally passing out from being near Ven's body is a thing
I also want to get Aqua out of the Realm of Darkness. not before she starts losing herself to it, though, because I love exploring Aqua's relationship to darkness whenever I have the chance. but also what is it like to be the only one of your family/friends to have a whole heart? what does it mean when she's technically the only one with darkness in her heart as a result?
plus this opens up the Wayfinder Trio Sibling Dynamic But Slightly to the Left, which raises the question: what happens to an unbreakable connection when you break everything around it but leave the connection intact? they're still a family, in a way; one of them is missing a heart, one of them got possessed and then got amnesia and then became a nobody, and one of them has a heart being overtaken by darkness. but that connection sure was unbreakable
ultimately the whole thing is about trauma and how to heal and recover from it when it's completely changed who you are as a person and learning that you don't owe it to who you were beforehand to try to become them again and figuring out how to move forward as the person you are now
why is literally everything I write about identity issues in some way
9. What’s your favorite line(s) or scene(s) that you have written?
answered here!
18. Recommend someone else fic! (And tag them if they have a tumblr!)
I have a text document I just keep filling with kh fic recs and I just. can't find it for some reason. and I don't want to just leave this ask in limbo where it'll get buried in my drafts and I'll inevitably forget about it, so. rain check on that fic rec instead?

Okay, if I were to post a big brother Vani fic (idk when but it’ll happen!) and you’ve read my fics, should I structure it like my brothers series (flashback chapters every other chapter), or should it be just chapter by chapter?
I want something like Vanitas meets Sora when he’s a kid after accidentally kidnapping him and, after Vanitas fakes his death in his fight with Ven, Sora eventually adopts (heals Vani’s heart by giving him some of his light) him as his big brother but Sora’s parents do know about the goblin teen living in their walls. Kairi and Riku know of Vanitas but as they got older, they chalked him up to be his imaginary friend. I’ve always liked the idea that Vanitas ages as Ven ages so, since Ven is sleeping and not aging, Vani will physically say the same age. The story would follow the regular kh story where Vanitas follows Dora but in the darkness and no one, other than Sora, knows he’s there.
Vanitas wouldn’t make himself known until after Chain of Memories. Vanitas is unable to follow Sora into Castle Oblivion but once Sora is in the sleep pod and Riku makes his way to the top (bottom? It has been a while since I played recom...), he’s able to make his way to Sora and steps out and demands for Naminé to tell him what happened to Sora. Let’s also just say that Riku would be shook when he sees a kid that looks like his best friend and is telling him that he’s Sora’s older brother/imaginary friend.
Vanitas ends up guarding Sora, becomes friends with Naminé, and actively avoids Mickey. Vanitas doesn't officially meet Kairi until The World that Never Was when she first sees Riku when he looks like Ansem. She hopes that he’s Sora. Mickey won't meet him until they are all reunited at the Islands. Mickey will knock him out, ties him up, and demand to know how Sora and Riku know him. Sora quickly explains their story and Mickey takes Vanitas and the others to Yen Sid.
Now this next bit isn't really planned like, Vanitas stays and we roll into 3D and, while Sora is unconscious, Vanitas is able to Sora out of there while the others distract Xehanort and Co. After 3D, we move onto kh3 and this is where i rip everyone’s hearts out, both Sora’s and the readers lol!
Xehanort is able to get Vanitas, rip that little light that’s on his heart, and pretty much reverts him back to who he was before he met Sora with the added bonus that he will have vague memories of Sora but won’t really remember him. Kh3 progresses as normal, though with a bit more feels, and Vanitas is struck down.
IT DOESN'T END THERE!!
Not long after Sora wakes up in Quadratum, he finds that Vanitas’s heart is within his, and Vanitas is PISSED (they can talk to each other). the main story would follow this with Sora trying to help Vanitas remember who he was and Vanitas yelling and taking over Sora’s body every chance he gets so he can cause chaos.
But yeah, both how do you think this should be structured and what do you think? Also thanks if you read all of this!!

Dream Drop Distance And Why it Frustrates Me
Recently I’ve been thinking about Kingdom Hearts more and god….
Dream Drop Distance was such wasted potential.
And no, I’m not saying that because ‘time travel bad’, ‘Drop system bad’ but because the core concept is such a fascinating idea. Sora and Riku exploring dream worlds. The two are literally wandering through their own (and each other’s) dreams. That’s such an interesting way to let you explore these characters’ headspace’s, their thoughts, their feelings, their fears, their subconscious. This was Kingdom Hearts’ chance to go full Psychonauts. It also adds a lot of potential to the Disney worlds too. Instead of just repeating the movie plots, you can afford to go for much weirder, surreal interpretations of these locales. These worlds are literally dreaming. The laws of reality no longer apply in these spaces. The Sleeping Worlds could have been both fascinating abstract places to explore, and a way to explore these characters on a deeper level…
It’s just too bad that DDD does neither of these. For one thing, given the premise, it’s shockingly lacking in character development. Much has been said of how DDD actively hurts Sora‘s character. His naivety and childish streak are turned up to 11 and any edge or fire to his personality is scrubbed away. He’s led along by the plot with no skepticism of the events around him until he’s damselled in the finale. There is potential in the premise of ‘Sora’s naivety and love for his friends puts him in danger’…until you remember the series has done this before and done it better. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories had Sora climbing further and further up Castle Oblivion out of the determination to save his friends, while the villains messed with his mind. But that game did a better job at keeping Sora in character and giving him more agency. When he does act out of character, being unnaturally aggressive, possessive and mean spirited, even to Donald and Goofy, it’s because that’s the point. Naminé interfering with his memories has actively made him a different person. It served the game’s message that your experiences are what make you who you are, and that hypothetically, if someone were to change or replace those formative moments, you would not be the same. Sora’s campaign in DDD isn’t done in the interest of exploring a theme, or doing something new with his character. It is a plot convenience that needs to happen so that Riku can save Sora at the end.
And perhaps this is a controversial take given that this is effectively his game, but Riku’s character arc is not much better. The setup is promising. Riku thinks that ‘darkness still has a hold’ on his heart and he wants to know if he’s still worthy of the Keyblade. When you take out the ‘light/darkness’ jargon, what Riku is looking for is redemption. He’s been forgiven by his friends for the wrongs he’s done, but he hasn’t forgiven himself. With that in mind, having him go through Disney worlds is a good idea. The last time Riku went world hopping in KH1, he was Maleficent’s puppet and was actively making things worse there. He kidnapped Jasmine, he nearly killed Pinocchio, he attacked Beast. This time, he can go through the worlds helping people like Sora has, proving that he’s grown and changed (in part becoming more like Sora)…
And then Ansem shows up. And any potential for Riku’s story is sucked out by one of DDD’s biggest flaws: its insistence on dredging up the past rather than doing anything new. Now any new exploration of Riku forgiving himself, or showing us what his ‘use both light and darkness’ approach actually looks like in practice, is thrown out for a repeat of his Chain of Memories arc. We’re right back to ‘use the darkness’, ‘No’. Riku has already shaken off Ansem, he’s made his peace with his place in the balance of light and darkness. He didn’t need to go through this again.
DDD is often praised for its exploration of Sora and Riku’s relationship (sometimes joking called ‘the Soriku game’). And yes, this is probably the one thing I think really works about the game’s story. The moments where Sora and Riku reflect on how much they trust each other, or where Riku compares how Sora has helped him grow to Pinocchio and Jiminy, are good. Riku ending the game by saving Sora from falling into darkness like Sora once did for him, is an excellent point to close out the game. But it would have been even better if DDD had committed to exploring these characters on a deeper level, really showing how they’ve grown both separately and together. Instead, they both regress so the plot can have then redo characters arcs they both have done before, but worse. What is supposed to be a game about how much they’ve grown together ends up doing the exact opposite. I think their bond is incredibly wholesome but it could have been showcased so much better.
And it’s maddening because there are moments when DDD comes so close to getting this right. When Sora wanders The World That Never Was, we see him meet all the people he’s connected to and how he feels about them. He sees Naminé and wants to finally thank her for all she’s done. He sees Xion but doesn’t remember her. He meets Roxas and tries to apologise for everything that happened. He talks about how it’s not fair that Roxas had to go away for Sora to go on living, and how he wants Roxas to have the chance to be his own person. This is probably the best scene in the game. Because it’s the one moment the game actually does what it should have been doing all this time: use the premise that Sora and Riku are dreaming to show us what they’ve been thinking and feeling on the inside but never actually said. Sora had never commented on the tragedy of Roxas’ story before now, and this desire to save him goes on to be a huge motivator for him in Kingdom Hearts 3. It’s a moment that showcases Sora’s empathy but also his growing maturity, that he understands the Nobodies’ plight now in a way he didn’t entirely back in Kingdom Hearts 2. But this is really all we get in terms of new character work for Sora. And because his character has been so dumbed down throughout the rest of the game, it actually feels a little out of nowhere.
Imagine if this was a fixture of the entire game. If Sora and Riku were confronting dreams that reflected these inner thoughts throughout the whole game. If Riku really is Sora’s Dream Eater, why not let him see Sora’s dreams? Allow him to see what’s going on behind the cheerful grin and get more insight into his best friend’s hidden insecurities? If Riku wants to be more like Sora, give him a sight what it’s like to BE Sora. It would lead even better into the depiction of Sora’s doubts in Kingdom Hearts 3.
But, like many Kingdom Hearts games, we spend more time hopping through Disney World retellings that don’t meaningfully enhance the plot or characters (the closest is Sora’s encounter with Tron in The Grid and it doesn’t go anywhere near far enough). And remember what I was saying about how if the worlds are dreaming we have a chance to get really weird and abstract with how these worlds play out? Yeah, we only get scraps of that. Traverse Town being split in two is interesting and a fun way to homage the combat of The World Ends With You. Prankster’s Paradise repeating the same point in time on loop is a neat concept. But that’s the most the game ever does with this idea. It’s a shame because I think using oddball world choices was the right move for this setup and I’m thrilled to finally get a Fantasia world. It’s yet another part of the game that feels like unrealised potential. Of the game wasting time when it could be developing its characters.
I have a lot of nostalgia for Dream Drop Distance. It was the first Kingdom Hearts game I got to play on release after getting caught up with the series. It was a fun game to play on the go as a kid. But the more time goes by, the more problems I have with it. I didn’t even touch on the gameplay aspect (and I could say a lot about my problems with Dream Drop Distance’s gameplay). But even aside from the more shark jumping aspects, the story frustrates me because it could have been great. But ultimately I think DDD suffered because it tried to be too many things. It wanted to be a nostalgic trip down memory lane for the 10th anniversary that ruminates on Sora and Riku’s growth and relationship, while pitting them against classic villains for extra nostalgia. It also wanted to be the next chapter in the series’ ongoing story. But it couldn’t wrap that up as it also needed to be the warmup for the long awaited Kingdom Hearts 3. So we get a game whose attempts to do something new are hobbled by a need to revisit things it didn’t need to. Instead of establishing a new threat, it brought back characters well past their expiration date. Instead of doing anything new with the characters, it wallows in ideas and characters arcs they’ve already gone through, without quite getting why they worked the first time to begin with. And while I don’t want to get into the controversy over Kingdom Hearts 3, I feel a lot of that would have been avoided if this game had done a better job leading into it.
Dream Drop Distance really could have been something. But all it ended up doing was doing these two characters dirty.

Do you have any opinions/ideas about aro Naminè?
She is a close character to my heart, and i always headcanoned as her being an aromantic type, but rarely ever see others having this interpretation (disclaimer that im not really in kh fandom circles tho)
Perhaps its partially because i see myself in her, as an aro/ace quiet person who'd rather be behind the scenes and likes to draw. But i always saw her as somebody who is not attracted or interested in romance, and cares deeply and intimately about her friends while beeing a big introvert.
I think you would be a nice blog to have headcanons or ideas about this interperetation of her! If you do not mind answering this ask- i would love to hear your thoughts! Ty and have a nice day, aros rule forever!!! 💚
Aro Naminé!!! Sadly I haven't seen much for this interpretation but it's a very good one! I wrote a drabble about her being aro! (it's angsty though)
I love exploring aromanticism with the Nobodies bc its such an interesting way to think about relationships and feelings when you don't have a heart and literally can't feel anything. I definitely see her as wanting platonic relationships above all else because of how lonely her life is (which she gets! thank you kh3 ending!)
For a more angsty angle I could see her wanting romance but also thinking she's incapable of love as a Nobody, but then after kh3 she meets more people who geninuely care for her and realizes there are more types of love than romantic. She's not a lesser person for not feeling romantic attraction!
She is a very quiet and introverted character so I'd think she'd have a smaller friend group that she is super close with (or maybe not so small based on the number of kh main characters there are and I want Nami to interact with them all 😅) I could see her confusing crushes and squishes or some other type of attraction. maybe aesthetic attraction since she's into art and she could end up liking figure drawing
For my aro headcanons I always have a difficult time deciding if I want them to be partnering or nonpartnering. Nonpartnering aro Naminé is great as she develops her own heart she knows she is a complete person all on her own! But I also really like queerplatonic relationships for her (qpr rokunamixi my beloved). Or since her origin as part of Kairi is so bizarre Naminé could have a strong qpr with her since its outside of what platonic relationships usually are (who else would care for you more deeply than yourself? I know a lot of people like them as sisters but there's so many ways their relationship could be interpreted. They're family, yes, but in a deeply queer way. Queerfamilial if you will. The only instance of soulmates that i'm interested in honestly)
Speaking of Kairi, KH makes for great opportunities for comparisons between characters. Like if Kairi isn't aro how does Naminé feel about originally being part of her but not anymore and also aro now. Or maybe Kairi is also aro so they bond over that
Besides aromantic I don't think I have a specific microlabel for her. Whether it's demiromantic, grayro, lithro, or anything you could convince me on it. I also like making headcanons out of what flag colors look good with a character so I also like pan Nami. Girl needs some color! Give her some garish yellows pinks and blues! She could be panalterous or pansexual but I also like aroace. So hard to choose sometimes 😭
Thank you for the ask! I am always happy to talk about aro headcanons!
