summary: Wednesday confesses her feelings for you in her own Wednesday Addams way.
warnings: cussing and fake death (mention of blood)
word count: 2,514
a/n: this is based off of this post! This sucks, just a fair warning. I love Wednesday and I know how she would do romance, but articulating it is super difficult. I'm hoping I can get better at writing her since this is only my first time and I love her so much. Anygays, enjoy!
Tumblr media
The day had been dreadful for you.
Dreadful in the sense as it being so awful that you wanted to go home and just gently cry yourself to sleep. Ever since knowing Wednesday, you had realized just how potent perception was to each individual. A dreadful day for Wednesday would end with a gentle tugging of the corner of her lips before crossing her arms comfortably across her chest.
They were not the same. It didn’t take much effort into noticing the differences between the Addams family and the rest of the world. And yet, the two of you always seemed to get along. Well, getting along in terms of Wednesday Addams. That meant there was less scowling and a minimum amount of threats within the presence of each other.
Developing a fascination with Wednesday was almost instantaneous for any and everyone. Harboring a crush for the goth wasn’t an unusual occurrence either. Being compared to Wednesday only meant pointing out all the differences between Wednesday and the other person. It was only natural to become intrigued by the lifeless, unblinking stare and morbid interests.
As for the feelings, Wednesday Addams was aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Her pale skin and raven hair were stark yet appealing contrasts with freckles sprinkled around. One could simply not fall in love with the goth after noticing the sea of freckles. Not to mention how soft and full her lips looked, always pale but darker than her pale skin.
The aurora that surrounded her and the way she held herself were both handsome attributes that lured you in. Her intelligence was admirable (as well as sexy if anyone was to ask you). Her voice was often times even and lifeless as she spoke, or even and factual; the sound was always pleasing to the ears, caressing the skin of your body and your heart.
It was when emotion trickled through her voice that you were really left weak in the knees. The fact that ninety-percent of that was directed towards you when conversing? Well, it would be more of a mystery to not fall for her.
So, yes, you were completely and utterly infatuated with Wednesday Addams. Her grace and beauty were so captivating. The goth’s entire being was an addiction for you.
Wednesday wasn’t a romantic person though. She burned romance books and nearly fell ill whenever Enid or Divina decided to display a romcom. Any form of affection had her wrinkling her nose and stitching her eyebrows together in a ferocious, pout. She always made discouraging remarks about Ajax and Enid’s relationship; everyone only knew the remarks were half-assed because the rainbow werewolf had managed to worm her way into the goth’s heart.
Yoko and Divina holding hands as they walked along the lake or cuddled on the couch for movie night always prompted a scowl from Wednesday.
Of course, everyone knew how much she abhorred physical touch. Despite wanting to drift your fingers through her bangs to smooth them out after a vision or lightly drag your fingers along the palm of her hand, you never did. Kissing Wednesday was the most prominent and recurring fantasy of yours, but you left it at that.
You respected Wednesday’s boundaries and loved her too much to attempt to cause the girl any discomfort.
Even with all of the walks to classes and shared isolation wasn’t enough to warrant suspicions from you. The only person allowed to be present during Wednesday’s writing period (Enid would be there wether she was allowed or not) was you. You’d never once asked to read her novel, but you did mention wanting to if Wednesday ever changed her mind; to that she had just hummed thoughtfully.
Her eyes were always a shade lighter and her face marginally softer when in the company of you. She declared you were the least annoying person out of “this group you all like to label as a friend group.” To Wednesday, it was just a group of people that she didn’t want to kill (as badly as others). Even her digs at you weren’t as callous as the others.
Enid had been trying to convince you to make a move because “Wednesday totes likes you!” but, “is too stubborn to make the first move.” But you’d spent enough time studying Wednesday and enough time putting yourself out there just to be shut down, to not make a move. You wouldn’t label the relationship between you and the goth as a friendship, but in their own unique slash dysfunctional slash bizarre way, they were friends.
You didn’t want to lose the nights of wordlessly stargazing after having watched her practice her cello, of days where she glared at Xavier in botany for even attempting to converse with you, of philosophical spiels from the goth and her in return trying to keep up with your hyperfixations, of her warning you to be careful if you were in the woods alone before deciding to accompany you because it was the “smarter” decision.
Wednesday was different with you from the others, you knew that, but the reasoning having to do with romance was absurd.
Absolutely, completely, and totally absurd.
Yoko was staying at Divina’s for the night, so you flipped the light-switch as soon as stepping foot into the shared dorm. You made sure to lock the door behind you, knowing that Wednesday would pinch your ear if she found out you didn’t.
She always threatened to hurt you if you got injured or killed and glared when you would laugh at the irony. You didn’t really mind though, because you could only find her scowl adorable and not intimidating. Though, you’d never dream of saying that to her. She’d probably either ignore you for a week or stick needles in her eyes.
You dropped your bag off by your desk then went to your closet to find some pj’s. As heavy as your limbs were and how your eyelids kept drooping, you knew you needed a shower and showers before bedtime always helped you sleep better. So, you quickly brushed your teeth and turned all of the lights off.
The last thing you did before rolling onto your side and easily drifting off to a different state of mind was plug your phone in.
You weren’t sure how long you had been under Mr. Sandman’s spell, but the sky was just as thickly black as before and Yoko wasn’t back. In fact, the door wasn’t even opened. The window leading into your shared dorm was opened barely an inch, and you knew it had been shut before going to bed. No one could get into your room from there anyways, unless they were Spider-Man and could climb walls.
The chilly noise that had roused your from your sleep wasn’t uttered again. Deciding you were probably only half-asleep and imagined the noise, you moved to curl back up in your previous position. But then there was a thump and a swirl that sounded like a body zooming across the room, ending with a thud on the floor.
Considering your deep-rooted love for horror and having faced a Hyde and a Pilgrim raised from the dead, not much could scare you at this point. Your hand was sturdy as it reached out to turn your lamp on and the racing of your heart wasn’t an obnoxious thump but a steady hum. What you saw next had your heart stilling in your chest.
“Wednesday!”
You leapt off the bed without a second thought and rushed to the aid of a seizing goth. Her body flung itself so she was on her back. Despite her head flinging this way and that and the rest of her body spasming, you quickly grabbed her and cradled her against your lap.
“Wednesday! Wh-what’s happening?” You asked despite her seemingly partly unconscious.
Two shallow breaths scratched the thick air around them and then Wednesday’s small body slumped. While it wasn’t unusual for the goth to be laying exceptionally still and her face expressionless, it was dialed to one-hundred. Or more like negative-one-hundred from how still and chilly she was.
There was blood scattered all over her body, turning her black clothes even darker. Even her sweet face that held so much information with the lack of expressions had blood splashed all over. There was barely an inch of her skin that was just her pale complexion and not slick blood. Her bangs that you were so obsessed with were messy and the rest of her hair was goopy with blood.
You gently cupped her cheek, as if that would keep the Addams girl from being harmed. She was already unmoving and unresponsive, you didn’t want to make matters worse. You couldn’t hurt Wednesday, especially when she already was so terribly hurt.
You sniffed and strummed your thumb along her elegant cheekbone. Her already chilly skin was even cooler, causing your fingertips to twitch and the rest of your body to spasm. Tears were cascading down your cheeks and dripping onto Wednesday’s face. You hadn’t even realized you were crying, you didn’t feel the slick heat on your cheeks or your eyes burning.
You didn’t feel anything. All you could feel was the barbed wire tightening further and further around your trembling heart. You were sure you were bleeding internally from her heart, and you hoped it would overflow so that you wouldn’t have to live in a world that didn’t have the insatiable Wednesday Addams in it.
“Wednesday, come on, wake up. This…” You swallowed hard. “This isn’t funny, though I know you find your cruel shenanigans to be just that.”
Seconds ticked by without a witty remark from the cold girl in your arms. Tears kept spilling down your face, so much so that you could wipe all the blood off of Wednesday. When too many tears blurred your vision and you could never see the most beautiful person ever, you dropped your head to her chest and clung to her tightly.
‘I should’ve listened to Enid.’ You couldn’t believe that something so horrible and so horribly cliche could be true! All this time you had waisted pining for Wednesday and now she’ll never know how you truly feel about her. You’d never get to know if she’d rather know or not, even if she didn’t feel the same.
Enid.
How were you going to explain this to her? The person she deemed her best friend, the girl she risked her own life to save last her, her roommate, was now dead. Someone so special in life and to Enid’s heart was no longer going to be around to threaten people and stun strangers and make their classmates laugh.
The girl you loved was gone.
“Oh, cara mia, it was all just a playful ruse.”
You jerked away from that metallic voice grazing your skin and kissing your ears. The rare tone of voice that was either used when speaking about a devious plan or talking to Uncle Fester or Enid. It was smooth and warm with a slight rasp tickling it, but still even and steady like her daily, monotone voice.
When you jerked away, you were met with a smile gracing the lips of the girl you had thought was dead. For a full sixty seconds, you were sure that Wednesday had been possessed because Wednesday Addams did not smile. But then you remembered her smirk at Outreach Day when her and Thing had successfully ruined the event, and you remembered the very few times she had snuck a smile here and there.
You could hear Enid’s voice in your head screeching how Wednesday looked at her with the goth’s own version of heart eyes. And you remembered how Wednesday would escort you to class and offer to hold your books, how she’d sit with you at lunch and didn’t threaten you like the others. How angry she got whenever you were careless and your safety was at risk.
That smile was innocent and it was infectious. A one-hundred-percent, bonafide Wednesday Addams smile.
Her hand cupping your cheek startled you from the reverie you had been induced in. The subtle shutter had that small smile widening and a warmth flooding her eyes. You always found the girl to be so beautiful that there were no words to adequately describe her, but this smile and the heat in her eyes was something even more remarkable.
She ran her thumb along your cheekbone and smirked as you leaned against her delicate touch.
“Y/N, my heart beats when your heart beats, and I suffer when you suffer. Which is not as fun as I expected suffering to be. As long as the earth rotates, that will never change. My fealty belongs to you and my heart will never forget the kiss your presence has left on it.”
Even if you had ever fancied the thought of Enid being right, you never in a million years expected Wednesday to say that as her love confession. And definitely not with that smile that kept trying to pull up further! You jerked your head down and counted your fingers and were left stunned to count ten. So you weren’t dreaming.
Your heart was thudding harder against your ribcage from that declaration of love than it had been when you thought Wednesday was dead.
Dead. Right. This whole sweet and enchanting confession was only given after she had faked her death. She pretended to die for what exactly, your reaction? If you hadn’t reacted appropriately would she have left you to believe she was dead? Or would she have woken up and left unimpressed?
As relieved as you were that she was alive and you got to do the next thing, you were pissed at her.
You smacked her - hard - on the bicep and glared at her. “Wednesday Friday Addams!”
“I’m assuming this is in response to my flawless scene I had enacted of demons possessing my body and effectively murdering me.”
“Yes! This is in response to…all of that!”
Your response only made her grin bigger. You guessed that it was only satisfying Wednesday’s knowledge of you reciprocating her undying love. As aggravating as it was, it was what made Wednesday Wednesday and you loved her more than breathing.
Sighing, you cupped her face and rubbed your thumb against the red stain on her face. “I’m assuming this is pig’s blood.”
She gave a single nod of her head, her eyes doing all of the smiling for her. “My smart girl.”
There weren’t any powers in the world that could have prevented you from shuddering at that compliment.
Wednesday’s smile morphed into something wicked, very on par for her, and she began to lean in.
“Darling, as much as I love that devious brain of yours,” she smiled brightly, loving the adjective. “Don’t you ever scare me like that again.”
She gave a solemn nod of her head. “Allow me to make it up to you, cara mia.”
And with that, you finally let your love kiss you.

Shovel Talk - a scream drabble
summary: Kirby comes home from work to find Tara with her new beau.
warnings: 18+, mention of past attacks, threatening, Kirby has a gun, and cursing. Pretty sure that's all!
word count: 1,830
a/n: I'm in love with Sam, Tara, Kirby, Gale, & Sidney all being a little family. This is Kirby being a good older sister to Tara. I dedicate this to @psychofreakforc for screaming & crying with me over this little found family. I hope everyone enjoys this!
Tumblr media
It had been a long day at work and all Kirby was looking forward to was being able to kick her feet up on the coffee table (that would surely earn her a talking to from Sam) and crack open a cold one. The only obstacle in her way was actually getting to the apartment and changing clothes.
Sounds easy, except you have Tara Carpenter as a surrogate little sister, so changing clothes wasn’t always easy. Like right now for instance!
Kirby was heading to her bedroom which was right down the hall from Sam and Tara’s rooms. She had only shredded her leather jacket by the front door when she heard a loud thud careening from the other side of the apartment.
Tara always got home first, so Kirby wrote it off as Tara being clumsy. She had a tendency to be clumsy at times. After hanging her jacket up, she kicked off her shoes and heard a pound against the wall, like a harsh clap. Now, Tara was never that clumsy. The blonde FBI agent parted her lips and furrowed her eyebrows, her skin prickling over. Ghostface was usually a lot louder, and it had only been a few months since the sixth overall attacks which would make for the shorted time span between attacks. Her gun was still holstered against her hip, so she placed her hand over it and began creeping in the direction of the bedrooms. The closer she got, the more noises she heard. There were sounds of shuffling around and small murmurs, so Kirby thought that maybe Tara was having a slightly calmer nightmare. There was another thud though, this one louder and cracking like a whip against Kirby’s heart. She crept more quickly down the hallway and could hear hushed voices on the other end. “Seriously? Just leave it.” Was a breathless command. It didn’t sound like Tara was in any physical danger, but Kirby didn’t want to take any chances. The blonde knocked on the door before swinging it open. “Tara?” “Oh, shit!” “Kirby!” “Woah!” All three responses mingled the air like an off-key orchestra. Tara was on the bed with her shirt halfway up her chest to expose her stomach and the pink underlining of her bra. Who was once hovering over Tara was now on the other side of the bed, close to the closed window and shirtless. Y/N whipped her head around as she looked for her shirt, desperate to end this awkwardness. This was not the audience she had wanted with her nakedness. “Turn around!” Tara waved her hand at Kirby as she tossed Y/N her shirt. Kirby did no such thing. Instead, she just stared daggers into Y/N frame as she wrestled the shirt over her head. When her head popped out, her hair was all over the place and looked like wires. Still, she stepped forward and reached a shaky hand out to Kirby. Tara growled as she pulled her shirt down and scrambled off the bed. “H-hi. Nice to see you again, Kirby. Or Miss Reed.” “Hi, Y/N. What are you doing here?” While Y/N had been attacked and cleared a few months ago after the Ghostface slayings, Kirby could never be too careful. Especially when it came to Tara. Y/N dropped her hand and retreated to Tara’s side when Kirby refused to shake her hand. “When did you two become a thing?” Kirby questioned. Tara pinched Y/N’s side to keep her from answering. Y/N whined and rubbed at her side, mumbling something about the girl being mean. Kirby watched her in amusement while Tara ignored her. “We’re not a thing,” Y/N’s face fell at that. “We’re dating.” Y/N’s entire being brightened at that announcement. Clearly they hadn’t disclosed specifics, Kirby noted. Smiling brightly, Y/N turned and looked at Tara’s serene side profile. “We’re dating? Like, you’re my girlfriend and I’m yours?” “Baby, stop talking.” Tara commanded in a soft tone as she slid her fingers through her girlfriend’s. With her mouth closed but still grinning, Y/N did as she was told. She turned her body back to face the older woman and took a minuscule step back under the adult’s balmy gaze.
Kirby reluctantly switched her attention over to Tara, her face softening at the short girl. “Well then, what about keeping the door cracked rule?” Kirby pressed on. “You guys weren’t home.” Tara grumbled, clearly pouting now. “Do you make a habit of breaking rules while we’re gone?” Y/N’s back gave up as her knees buckled. One glance down and Tara was gripping her hand so hard that both of their hands were a searing white. Discomfort was written all over Y/N’s face, but she didn’t seem to be in any pain. “Is it breaking rules if you guys aren’t here? And what’s with the interrogation? You’re off work.” It wasn’t a stomp per se, but Tara did shift her body and ground her foot down hard when she did. The yelp that echoed through the room told Kirby that Y/N was now in some pain.
Poor girl. This had to be a lot for her, all she wanted to do was have sex with her girlfriend and now she was stuck in the middle of a standoff between her girlfriend and her girlfriend’s surrogate big sister. Life was so rough. “Lets go have a chit chat real quick.” Kirby turned to allow Tara to walk out and nodded her head in the direction. Tara huffed and rolled her eyes before obeying, but not before leaving a kiss on Y/N’s cheek.
Kirby turned to follow after but paused as a thought fluttered cross her brain. She pointed an unwavering finger at the girl who seemed to shrink just from the small action. “You don’t go anywhere.” Y/N looked around the room in confusion. Besides the window, there wasn’t any other escape route that wouldn’t let Kirby know. Heights and parkour weren’t really her strong suit either. “Where would I go?” Kirby left before Y/N could see her smile. She liked Y/N, but right now she had to take on the intimidating role of older sister. Tara was standing in the middle of the living room with her arms crossed over her chest and a glare glowing on her face. A smile tugged at the right corner of Kirby’s mouth. It was adorable whenever Tara got worked up, especially if she was staring up at Sam who was a giant compared to her. (Kirby thinks Y/N may have compared the two sisters to a tree and a squirrel, but she couldn’t be sure.) “Don’t give me that face, kiddo. You know I’m just looking out for you.” “Do you know how long it took to reassure Y/N that my sisters weren’t going to murder her? She’s more afraid of you guys than Ghostface!” ‘She should be.’ Kirby thought to herself. “We’re not going to murder her.” Kirby looked down with her eyes and cocked her head to the side. “As long as she doesn’t try to murder you.” “She took a knife to the gut for me, trust me, she’s not going to murder me.” All traces of jest were wiped away as Kirby watched Tara’s frown turn from a pout to a regretful grimace. It seemed that Tara still blamed herself for Y/N getting hurt. Kirby couldn’t blame Y/N, only respect her, because Tara was a special girl. The blonde would sacrifice anything and anyone just to keep Sam and Tara safe. (Seems like Y/N might be making it into the mix soon.) “Hey,” Tara looked up at the gentle tone with the softest look on her face. It was the same face she always had whenever her and Kirby would talk about their paralleled trauma or Sam would hold her after a nightmare. She looked so innocent, so precious.
“I came home, and I heard noises. I didn’t know she was here, so I got worried. I’m sorry for barging in.” Tara nodded her head gently. “It’s okay. Not cool, but okay.” Kirby grinned at her. “So, when’d you plan on telling me and Sam about you guys?” Stubborn Tara was back as she raised her eyebrows at the older woman. “I was going to tell you guys tonight. Y/N definitely thinks you don’t like her now.” “I like Y/N, I just need to scare her a bit at first. That’s my role as the older sister.” Tara huffed as she stared at the floor, toying with a random spot in the hardwood floor with her socked feet. With wide, innocent eyes and a gentle face, she looked at Kirby with hope glinting in her eyes. “You like Y/N? For real?” Kirby chuckled and nodded her head. “For real. Now go bring her out here.” “You can come out now, Y/N!” Tara hollered, smirking when Kirby glared at her for yelling. The clicking of the bedroom door sounded and then there was shuffling from Y/N. Tara met her halfway, at the end of the hallway and wrapped her hand around Y/N’s clammy one. She gazed up at Y/N with the definition of heart eyes and it made Kirby smile. “Don’t break her heart. I have a gun, Y/N, and I’m not afraid to use it.” Y/N nodded her head vehemently. “Yes ma’am.” Kirby’s eyebrows slid up and her body turned forward slightly. She couldn’t believe she had just heard that. Sure, she had to constantly remind Gale that she was an adult, but MA’AM? She wasn’t old! “Did you just call me ma’am?” Y/N’s eyes bugged out of her head as her jaw drop. She stared in horror before shaking her head. Even as Tara began walking them backwards, she didn’t stop her incoherent babbling. “Not-not in like a bad way- a bad way, just in a respectful way. Ya know?” Kirby squinted at the stressed girl and gave a curt shake of her head. “No, I don’t know.” Her words were pointed. Y/N noticeably paled. The way her lips kept parting and words kept fumbling around over her thick tongue, the more she resembled a fish. Tara tugged harder on her haunted girlfriend’s hand and resumed pulling her back to their room.
The short girl was clearly not amused with Kirby’s antics. “We’ll be in my room, with the door opened a crack. Now stop terrorizing my girlfriend, Kirby!” Kirby did as she was told, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t tell Sam and have Sam terrorize Y/N. She was the other big sister after all. Two shovel talks wouldn’t be hurtful right? “Tara’s dating Y/N?” All Y/N could do was whine. Kirby smirked as she sipped her beer and went back to her tv show playing on the tv. Finally, she could relax.

She was the most beautiful human being Cairo had ever seen in all of her eighteen-and-a-half years of being alive on earth. Living in New York City, you see a shit ton of people every day and that is literal. Hypothetically, you see a million people in a year; at stores, on walks, as extras in a tv show or movie, etc.
Out of all of those people, no one even compared to the raven-haired girl across the room. She was short, but Cairo could always spot her no matter the crowd. Most people teased her for her height, but Cairo genuinely found it endearing. Her smile was brighter than quasars, constantly leaving Cairo on her knees and rendering her useless. She had dimples accenting her marble, smooth cheeks. It was such a funny thing to Cairo, that dimples were biologically considered imperfections, but non-scientists find them alluring. All of the freckles kissing across her face were the stars in Cairo’s galaxy, the girl being Cairo’s revolving world. She had a unique voice that wasn’t like anyone else’s. There was a rasp to the edge of her words; sometimes the rasp was thickly coated, like when she woke up in the morning or was running out of breath or got excited. It could be deep, but not Sophia Bush deep. No matter what, it was always soft and pleasant sounding. A lot of people agreed with Cairo that listening to the other girl’s voice was calming, a remedy for anxiety even. Her eyes were big but not the repugnant kind. They were a deep brown that could light up and yet still remain mysterious. Her eyes were her most innocent feature and the ones that got her everything she wanted. She wasn’t just hot though. No. Her brain could remember the entire dialogue to The Babadook and graduated at the top of her class. She was very perceptive in a mostly subtle way. Snark was a fabulous hobby of hers and her heart was the most golden heart that ever shone. Selflessness and loyalty were the foundations of her persona, of who she was; what made her her. Everyone tripped over themselves at her natural, graceful beauty. Half of them were privy enough to see what she was about on the inside and fall head over heels for her. Cairo was definitely the latter. So was Chad. Cairo couldn’t blame him for falling for her childhood best friend. It’d be concerning if he didn’t. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt any less to watch him give heart eyes to the girl she was in love with. ‘She could never be yours anyways. You know that.’ Falling in love with your best friend was the worst form of emotional pain imaginable.
Cairo despised the media and pop culture that romanticized the trope, especially the ones with a happy ending. Happy endings were overrated and unrealistic, especially when it came to “unrequited love.” It either ends up being requited, or they find someone else. That wasn’t always the case though. For eighteen years, Tara had only ever looked at Cairo with platonic respect and adoration.
Ever since she was a teen, Cairo tried to find someone else to crush on and hoped for someone to want her. The last part never happened until this year. She was still out of luck in the crushing department. At the end of the day though, as much as Cairo felt like she was suffocating, she was happy for Chad and Tara. They were both her friends that she cared about and loved deeply. She’d never risk their happiness for her own, especially when it wasn’t likely to lead to happiness for her. Cairo winced as she sipped the awful beer in the red solo cup. It didn’t matter how hard she tried with alcohol; it just didn’t fancy her like it did the others. “Hey, Roe.” Cairo didn’t need to look up to know that it was Quinn who was standing beside her. Quinn was the only one who ever called her that, her own personal nickname for Cairo.
Everyone else called the brunette girl by her full name - or Cai - and teachers called her by her last name - Miss Reed - or Cairo. She really hated her name sometimes. Well, most of the time if she was being honest. “Hey, Quinn.” The ginger got to work with grabbing two red solo cups and picking up one of the glass bottles of alcohol. Cairo bit her lip and scanned the packed room for any sign of her roommate or their other two friends. Cairo turned back to Quinn to shout over the music, “Where’s Anika?” Quinn was grinning when she spoke, her eyes glittering intoxicatingly. “She’s trying to help Ethan score a date.” “Key word trying.” Cairo teased earning a chuckle from the other girl. “Mindy is having fun watching, and I am getting drinks for myself and that cute boy waiting for me.” Cairo turned to follow the direction Quinn had pointed to with her eyes. The boy looked to be the same height as Quinn with curly hair & a stubble that made him seem like a fuckboy, but his boyish smile and awkward wave was contradicting. The brunette nodded her head. She took a step closer to the ginger and leaned in close so she could be heard. “I think I’m going to leave, maybe check on Sam on the way back.” Before the friend group had rallied together and ventured off to this party, the Carpenter sisters had gotten into it...again.
The arguing between the two sisters was becoming more and more frequent as time was going on. Everyone was on edge, wanting to say something to ease the tension but not knowing what to do or knowing if it was their place to even do or say anything. The twins and Cairo worried more than anyone, having grown up with the two sisters. Tara used to listen to Cairo and the others when they had something to say. Especially Cairo. Nowadays, Tara only ever listened to herself and only did what sounded pleasing to her. Guess Chad sounded especially pleasing to the girl. Cairo was really trying not to think about that though. About any of it really. “What? Come on, you said you were going to try!” Quinn lightly smacked the back of her hand against Cairo’s bicep. The brunette chuckled halfheartedly and raised her eyebrows. “And I did, now I’m leaving.” Cairo knew that if she didn’t move her ass at that very second, Quinn was going to showcase a frown and beg Cairo to stay “for herself and not me.”
(It was true, Quinn was doing this all to help Cairo take her mind off of the girl she couldn’t have. But it was becoming too much for Cairo.) Quinn was already in the midst of tilting her head to the side and parting those talented lips. But Cairo was quicker. She was quicker than anyone at everything, except for telling Tara her feelings. Which was precisely why she was in this predicament. “I’ll see you later, Quinn.” Quinn sighed but let Cairo give her a hug and turn to head out the door. It wasn’t until she was down the sidewalk and turning into the quad on campus that Cairo finally felt like she could breathe. She dunked her head down and placed her hands on her hips. She couldn’t stop seeing Tara with Chad.
Or with Amber. She had thought that watching Tara kiss or hold hands with Amber was painful, to watch Tara’s eyes light up whenever she saw or talked about Amber, having to encourage Tara to make a move and smile for her, she thought all of that hurt.
But this…this was so much worse. Cairo almost wished she was back in high school, watching the two girls parade around. Walking in on Chad and Tara, that had been worst of all.
It was her own fault, she should’ve knocked a second time and waited for an okay. But she could tell something was wrong with Tara and she had to get to the bottom of it before she permanently lost her mind. There were too many days spent canceled and nights spent on read. It wasn’t like Tara, not even when she was with Amber. She had left the apartment, bolting down the stairs and struggling to hold the bile in before making it outside. There wasn’t any shame in her body as she wiped her mouth with her sleeve and stood up. They lived in New York City, some girl puking on the sidewalk was the least weird thing citizens saw. Cairo went back to the dorm that night crying. Anika was staying at Mindy’s dorm, which was only down the hallway, so she didn’t have to worry about being bombarded with questions.
She spent the rest of the evening into later afternoon, hibernating under her covers with her earbuds in and curtains drawn. She was in the shower, changing out of her clothes from the night before finally, when Anika made it back. They spoke briefly through the curtain and then Anika was gone, off to hang out more with her girlfriend and their friends.
So, Cairo just dressed in whatever she found and got back into bed with a trashcan nearby. Having to pretend for another month like she didn’t know they were together was utter torture for Cairo.
Every time she was around Chad she felt nauseated, and she couldn’t look at Tara without her throat starting to hurt from suppressing sobs. At parties, she got blackout drunk so that she didn’t have to remember them being touchy with one another. She stopped texting Tara as much and didn’t ask to hang out anymore. For two months, Cairo had been smiling in the presence of the couple and drinking herself to sleep. She was getting tired of the drinking if she was honest. Being hungover and heartbroken was the most horrific combo.
The past few days she had been lying in bed with her hood blocking her from the rest of the world and earbuds drilled in. She hated how much of a baby she was about this whole thing. Hell, this felt worse than all of the stabs she received last year.
(Or the single one she received at eight years old.) Or worse than the betrayal of her older sister who she had idolized. “Tara will never be yours, Cairo.” “She doesn’t have to be, as long as she isn’t yours.” Then she headbutted Amber, sending the girl staggering backwards. There were three gunshots that sang Cairo to sleep.
When she woke up, Sidney was there. She didn’t see Tara until the next day. Since then, she hadn’t seen Tara a whole lot. She figured that the young Carpenter girl blamed her for the Ghostface attacks or wished that she hadn’t made it out alive.
Or maybe she cared more about Chad than Cairo. She wasn’t really sure. All Cairo was ever sure of anymore was that she missed her cousin Sidney. Sidney had wanted to adopt Cairo after being orphaned, but authorities thought it was best for her to stay with a closer relative, her father. He had no problem signing his rights over to Kirby three years later when she finally turned 21 years old.
For reasons that didn’t make sense, he didn’t want to give Cairo over to Sidney. Cairo thinks he just reached his limit and saw Kirby as the closest scapegoat. “You still want me?” “Of course I do. I might have adopted you, but you’ll always be my little sister, and I’ll always take care of you. Okay?” Cairo blew out a raspberry and started walking in the direction of the Carpenter-Quinn household.
Tumblr media
It took two knocks in two intervals for Sam to open the door.
Cairo stood on the other side, twirling her earbuds around; to the left and to the right, raveling the cord around her finger and unraveling it. She immediately dropped her hand, holding her earbuds with both hands, when the door opened. Cairo grinned mischievously and cocked her head to the side. “Hello, Cute Boy.” Said man chuckled softly and smiled charmingly at the shorter girl. Cairo kept on smiling as the man turned back to Sam, who looked rather uncomfortable at the whole situation. “I’ll call you later.” The stranger said. Sam nodded her head and lifted her tense lips up. “Okay.” “Okay.” The man said, still smiling dreamily at Sam. Cairo had to duck her head down and scratch her cheek as the man walked by so he wouldn’t see her cheesing. She watched him walk down the stairs, turning back to look at Sam at the top step before continuing.
She raised her dusty brown eyebrows at Sam with the same antagonizing grin in place. “Cute Boy from across the hall, huh?” Sam scoffed and rolled her eyes. Her reluctant smile contradicted her previous actions.
All Cairo could do was laugh. “Get in.” Sam nudged her head behind her. Cairo did as she was told, plopping herself down on the couch. Sam gave the brunette a reprimanding look, but it didn’t succeed its message.
The younger girl had her hands clasped behind her head and was smiling gorgeously. It was the smile that made her gray-brown eyes sparkle and had Sam wishing for a different life for the girl. Sam smiled and crossed her arms in that sisterly manner of hers. “What are you doing here, Cairo?” The brunette shrugged nonchalantly. But her downcast eyes and moving feet said she was uncomfortable. “Just came to check on you.” When she flicked her gaze up, she saw Sam looking to the side and nodding her head. She released her bottom lip and ran a hand through her inky black hair as she descended on the couch.
The older girl smacked Cairo’s shoes prompting her to raise her feet. She promptly set them back down on Sam’s lap afterwards. Sam cupped the top of the girl’s bottom legs and turned to look at her.
Cairo no longer had her hands behind her head but clasped carefully on her stomach. She was looking at Sam like she was the older sister or the mom, patiently waiting for the girl to speak and waiting to catch Sam if need be. “She’s not dealing with this, Cairo.” The gray-brown eyed girl sighed empathetically, her head nodding along. “Does she talk to you about it?” Sam asked. Cairo glanced down at her lap and shifted. “She doesn’t talk much to me anymore.” It wasn’t like Tara had just dropped Cairo.
They stilled texted a lot and there were frequent phone calls. But ever since the attacks in Woodsboro last year, Tara had been keeping her distance from Cairo. When they did talk or see each other, it was as if everything was the same as it had been before. Ever since Chad and Tara had finally come forward with their relationship (even though it was painfully obvious to everyone), Tara had been more talkative and social with Cairo. The brunette couldn’t help but feel like maybe Chad had said something to prompt the change. He was a nice guy, very protective and loyal to those closest to him, goofy and definitely attractive. Cairo loved Chad. It just made everything hurt so much more. Cairo lifted her gaze from her twitchy fingers to gauge the older girl.
She was looking off into the distance, watching memories and worst-case scenarios on the blank tv screen. Sam looked miserable. That tended to happen when you worried about your little sister’s trauma. “What about you?” Sam stitched her eyebrows together and frowned at the younger girl. Cairo took that as a prompt to elaborate further. “How are you doing with…dealing about this? How’s therapy going?” Sam heaved a heavy sigh that left Cairo’s heart twisting uncomfortably. “I think I need to find a new therapist. This guy pushed me to open up the other night then wanted to assign me to someone else. Pretty sure he has a foot fetish too.” Sam added the last part thoughtfully. “Sounds like a douche. I say dump his ass before he dumps you. But don’t dump Cute Boy.” Cairo grinned like a cheshire cat. Sam rolled her eyes fondly, pushing the brunette’s legs off of her.
Cairo squeaked as she tilted to the side, almost falling off the couch and onto the floor. She watched as Sam got up, heading into the dining room to clean up. That’s when Cairo noticed the two wine glasses and two empty plates. (Cairo tried not to worry about the wine glasses. It was just wine…right? It was drugs and beer that were Sam’s vices, not wine. Christina was the one whose vice was alcohol in general. That woman would drink anything she could get her hands on. Anything that fuzzed her thoughts and shattered her inhibitions was welcomed to her digestive system.) There weren’t any candles or dimly lit lights on in the apartment, so it didn’t seem like they were going for an intimate night. Which made sense, because Sam didn’t know if Tara would be coming back or not.
It didn’t take a genius to piece together that no one knew about Cute Boy because Sam didn’t want to set Tara off in any way. Still, Cairo felt bad for interrupting their date night. “His name is Danny, and we aren’t dating.” Sam said lightly from the kitchen. Cairo shrugged as she picked up a weird looking piece of chicken to sniff. “Could’ve fooled me.” There wasn’t any noise except for the clinking of cutlery and spray of water. Cairo hoisted herself up onto the counter in the kitchen and cupped the edge. “I’m not going to tell anyone that I saw him here, I won’t even mention him at all. Now, tell me about how long this has been going on and who initiated it.” Sam couldn’t help but blush as Cairo smiled and wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. Cairo laughed softly at the flustered woman and playfully kicked her calf. When a minute passed by with no answer, Cairo raised her eyebrows expectantly.
Sam playfully scoffed and shook her head before begrudgingly starting.

One-thousand-and-ninety-five days. That’s how many days it had been since Tara last saw or heard from her big sister. A full three years. That was all going to change tonight. Pretty soon, Sam would be back and the big bad monster that was their mother would be gone. The sisters could be reunited again, and Tara could finally be happy again.
Tumblr media
While Tara didn’t get Sam back that night, Sam did return to Woodsboro in December. On the first day of the month, she showed up on the Hicks’ front door step and politely asked for Tara. She made sure to thank Judy - and Wes - for looking out for Tara the last three years and for taking the young girl into their home for the past seven months. Before Judy returned Tara to her big sister, Sam had to prove that she was sober. That meant providing signed documents from AA meetings and a urine test. Her one year sobriety chip wasn’t too bad either.
So, after that, the Carpenter sisters were reunited. Now it was September 8th and school was back in session. It was Tara’s senior year to be exact. All the parents of her friends always said that their senior year was the most fun and the easiest (as well as the saddest), but so far it had been nothing but hell for the girl. Especially seeing you draped all over Amber all the fucking time. In the halls, in class, in the cafeteria, in and outside of school. Seeing those two so smitten together was nearly unbearable for Tara. The Latina couldn’t help the visions she had; visions of a buck 120 and blood, the resemblance to her mother’s dead body uncanny. “Tar-Bear, you listening to me?” Tara blinked away the bloodlust and focused on you.
She couldn’t help but smile at the glimmer in your eyes and scooted closer. The two of you were sitting on her bed attempting to do homework but were really listening to Mitski and talking. It was one of Tara’s favorite activities to partake in with you. “Sorry, you know Mitski just tends to take me to some other universe with her music.” You ducked your head down as you snickered and shook your head. This only caused Tara’s smile to widen into a prideful grin, that grin was mostly reserved for just you. “I was asking if you wanted to come over and watch Barbarian this Friday. I’ve heard nothing but good reviews and I think it might be that elevated horror that you prefer.” “You just want to see Bill Skarsgård.” Tara grinned. You reached down and flicked Tara on the nose, causing the shorter girl to wrinkle her nose and roll away for a second. But just a second, because she could never stay away from you for too long. There had been numerous times in the past two years where Amber and Tara had gotten into fights - a few had even turned physical. Amber was always so smug, thinking that she could get you to turn on Tara - your best friend - and believe your girlfriend instead. It didn’t work, of course, but you didn’t pick either side. Tara knows why, and it makes her entire body fume with this rage that had her teeth nearly shattering from her clenched jaw and had her hands trembling.
Sam was so perceptive when it came to her baby sister, she could detect the ever-slightest twitch to the side of Tara’s lips and how rigid her tiny body got. It was usually when their mother would - inevitably - do something to hurt her daughters (verbally or physically). But Amber was caught on the receiving end quite a bit as well. Sam never really did understand why the two were friends and she didn’t understand why they were still friends. Amber was always stealing things from Tara, like her crayons or toys or friends, or her crush. She’d be the first to spat foul words or initiate physical roughness with Tara. It only got worse the older the girls got. The past two years had been a startling confirmation of that. “So it’s mutually beneficial, that’s just more reason for you to come over and watch. Or I could come over here if you’d like.”
You carefully moved a few strands of inky black hair from Tara’s face, noticing the way her eyes swelled with adoration and her body sagged against your lap. “Just you and me, right?” Tara couldn’t help but ask. Tara couldn’t help herself with a lot of things; couldn’t help but call Sam every day after she had left, couldn’t help but sneak over to your house even though she would receive a beating from Christina the next day, couldn’t help but get into physical fights with anyone who so much as slightly elevated her heart rate (especially the ones who spoke about fucking you or would stare at your ass).
Couldn’t help but plunge a knife into her mother repeatedly. “My parents are going to be gone this weekend for some conference my dad has, Amber’s going with the twins and Liv to Crater Point for some stupid party, and Wes is spending time with his mom. So, unless Sam would like to join us, it will just be me and you. And Chrissie, of course.” Chrissie was your dog, named after Jordana Brewster’s character in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and gifted to you by Tara.
The young Carpenter had of course checked with your parents first; dogs cost a shit ton of money and Tara didn’t want her best friend’s parents to hate her when they practically loved her more than their biological child. Took most of Tara’s money from savings and her paychecks all summer, but Chrissie was worth it. Anything was worth getting to see you smile. Your happiness was Tara’s number one priority in life, and she hated that she was slacking at her duties. She needed to step it up and figure out a plan that wouldn’t cause any ounce of pain for you. “Ah, Chrissie. I’ve missed her.” Tara sticks her bottom lip out in a pout, earning a crackling chuckle from you that sounds more like a scoff. “Well, she misses you, too.” The two of you smile at each other for a moment before easily dissolving into a comfortable silence, one that was common between them. It wasn’t the common occurrence where both would settle their attention on their phones and exist in the same room. No, it was the two of them telepathically sharing thoughts and emotions without saying a word, or to just exist with each other. Silence had always been a rule that Christina brandished in the household, the scars on Tara’s knuckles were reminders of that. Amber always blew up on you when you were too quiet because it unnerved her.
Both of you could only find solace in one another when it came to silence; you didn’t feel like a crazy person and Tara wasn’t scared to stay quiet. A buzzing filtered the air, disturbing the perfect tranquility of the moment. Seeing as how the music didn’t quiet down, it wasn’t Tara’s phone. Didn’t take two seconds for a confirmation from you as you reached over to grab your phone. The slightest puckering of lips and flutter of eyebrows was a dead giveaway for Tara about who had texted you. Amber. Fucking Amber. You typed something back before setting your phone down and gently moving from underneath Tara. She sat up and watched with disappointing eyes as you gathered your things. “Amber’s here.” You sighed. ‘Of course. Of fucking course! Amber ruins everything. She- ‘ Tara’s inner turmoil was halted when you wrapped your arms around her and hugged her tightly. It didn’t go unnoticed by Tara how you two were positioned so you weren’t in front of the window. She had purposely left her blinds open knowing that you two would be spending the day together. Make that only the afternoon. “I thought Sam and I were going to give you a ride home after dinner.” You smiled apologetically and headed towards the bedroom door, not even waiting for Tara to get up off the bed and walk you to the door.
That’d been happening a lot lately, you wouldn’t let her walk you out. It was always subtle, how you’d inch away or wave her off if you guys were at somebody else’s house. Part of Tara - the irrational part - was determined that you were sick of being her friend and were ashamed to be seen with her. The rational part of her reassured her that it had nothing to do with how you saw others seeing you and Tara, but how Amber saw you and Tara.
So, either way, the irrational part of Tara was going to win, and she’d want to rip the skin off of Amber’s face and shove it down her throat until she stopped breathing. Okay. A bit too graphic. ‘Stick to the buck 120, Carpenter.’ “I’m really sorry, Amber just showed up and I can’t really turn her down now that she’s here, that’d be rude.” You swallowed, knowing that either way you were being rude. “Tell Sam sorry for me, will you? I really didn’t know Amber was going to show up.” For the time span of two heartbeats, Tara just stared at you with this blank expression that you saw from her too often. There were some days where it was worse than others, but it hardly happened when Tara was one-hundred-percent focused on you and it was just you two. Tara blinked away her blank expression, replacing it with a cool, hard one that screamed of indifference. But her eyes always gave her away. How they would flash when they flickered down and then darkened when she looked back up.
Of course, there was various darkness’ to Tara’s eyes, so many that you couldn’t even identify what each of them meant. She blinked and swallowed and nodded her head. “That’s okay, we understand. I’ll make sure to tell Sam that.” You grimaced one last weak apologetic smile before ducking out the bedroom, quietly shutting the door behind you (as if Christina was still alive and would smack Tara for the minimalist amount of noise). Part of Tara wanted to just jump off her bed and throw her arms around your divine (and bruised) shoulders to show off to the entire neighborhood that you were friends.
But Tara knew that it was petty and selfish, and those two things could lead to some very bad consequences between you and Amber. “Fucking Amber.” Tara muttered before grabbing one of her pillows and pinning her head against her mattress, wondering how long she could hold her breath.
Tumblr media
The sun isn’t out. Tara of course didn’t know that was going to happen when she planned this funeral. And yes, she did plan this all on her own. Judy of course helped out with all the legal mumbo-jumbo and Martha pitched in with the food for the service after the funeral, but Tara picked the date and casket and everything. She made sure she picked the cheapest casket available despite Christina making a respectable amount of money, and she made sure she went to a different cometary.
One that Billy Loomis wasn’t buried at. So many years have passed that there wasn’t any space beside the deceased, teenage serial killer anyways, but still, Tara had to make sure Christina knew that she didn’t get to be happy. ‘You say I took Sam and Dad away from you? Well fine, I’ll take Billy away from you too, for a second time. Take that, Mom.’ But anyways.
The sun isn’t out and this cometary isn’t as modest as the main one in Woodsboro. This cemetery was close to the edge of Woodsboro too, an eternal torment for Christina. She can look right down the road and see her escape! But she never left Woodsboro when she was alive, and now she no longer had the chance to, just a reminder that she once did. Yeah, Tara really put a lot of thought into all of this. The sun hiding was just an added bonus. For once, luck was on her side it seemed. “Hey, Tara.” The orphaned Latina looked up from her spot in her white, plastic chair and at the sound of the voice. She was surprised to see more people accompanying the single voice. It was the twins and Wes; Chad had been the one to speak. Showtime. She “weakly” quirked her lips up in a sad-slash-appreciative smile at the trio. “Hey guys. Thanks for coming.” “Yeah, of course.” Chad said in that serious voice of his that made his voice slightly go higher and had his eyebrows furrowing. Mindy nodded her head beside her brother. “Of course.” Wes repeated Chad’s last sentiment. “We’re here for you no matter what. Is there anything we can do for you or get you anything?” The boy went on to ask. She kept that grimace-mixed-smile on her face and gently shook her head. “No but thank you. You guys being here is doing enough.” Wes smashed his lips together and quirked them up at the corners to nod his head. The twins followed suit with their nodding.
Before they went on to take their seats, the trio took their turns each giving Tara a solo hug before deciding for an impromptu group hug.
Being sixteen-years-old and attending your friend’s funeral for her mother can be a very awkward attendance. You don’t always know how to act or what to say at a funeral when you’re only sixteen, especially when you have to comfort someone else. Tara knows that and doesn’t let it bother her.
Besides, it’s not like she’s actually sad she “had” to kill her mom and now she’s buried six feet under. She’s quite the opposite, actually. She’s elated that Christina is dead and not alive to throw another glass at her head or grip her arm so hard that it leaves marks. Tara’s happy that her mom can’t hurt her anymore, plain and simple. The teen couldn’t help but feel lonely though.
She had heard from Sam; her older sister wasn’t going to make it because she was in the middle of detoxing. Sam had been sober from alcohol for over a year, but news of her mother’s death left her consoling herself with a needle and then she just got hooked. Sam had sounded rough on the phone when Tara spoke to her, breathing heavily and speaking feverishly, but Sam reassured her little sister that she was fine. Despite her habit of lying to Tara so Tara would believe her and not worry, Tara still believed her.
That was Tara’s one fault in life: her big sister Sam. After all, she killed Christina to make Sam come back. She guesses that makes Sam becoming addicted to drugs her own fault. But then she reminds herself that Sam had already been an alcoholic, so becoming a drug addict isn’t a far stretch.
Besides, if Christina had been a decent mother that didn’t wish her child would die, this funeral wouldn’t be happening, and Sam wouldn’t have been tempted. So, it’s not Tara’s fault, she reasons with herself. It’s just fucking life, the addictive genetic and the abusive mother. Tara would never hurt Sam on purpose anyways, she loved Sam more than anyone in the entire world. Well, except for maybe- “Hey, Tara.” You. “Y/N.” Tara expressed her relief in your appearance.
She stood up and you made sure to present yourself for an engulfing hug. Tara wrapped her arms around your shoulders and closed her eyes as your arms wrapped around her comfortingly. Amber watched on distastefully. The crossed arms and scowl were a comical combination that almost caused Tara to laugh. But they were at a funeral, Tara had a role to uphold, and she couldn’t break it, or it could be detrimental.
So, she just closed her eyes again and focused back on your embrace. “Thank you for coming.” Tara said to you before pulling away from you and focusing Amber with a look. “Both of you.” “Sure, no problem. I mean, shit man, you’re burying your mom.” Amber remarked. Tara steadied the raven-haired girl with a glare of disbelief. The Latina was not impressed, clearly. Even if she did plan all of this and was happy her plan to kill her own mom worked, Tara still didn’t appreciate Amber being so crass. “Amber.” You scolded. Amber looked at you and sighed like it was such an inconvenience to her to be nice to Tara on the day of her mother’s funeral. “Sorry, Tara.” Amber said lamely. “How’re you holdin’ up?” Tara swallowed with jew clenched, letting the moment settle in the pit of her stomach. “I’m managing.” Is all Tara said. Amber scoffed, clearly not seeing why Tara was being so short with her. But before things could escalate, you were reaching out to hold Tara’s hand.
The Latina’s wide, doe eyes softened immediately upon resting on you. They pooled with wetness at the way you rubbed your thumb over the back of Tara’s hand. Oh, you were such an angel. A true blessing to every life you visited. Every morning and every night Tara would thank God for introducing her to you and becoming best friends. She appreciated you far more than Amber ever could, and she knew that. She just wished you knew that as well. The way Tara looked at you with those wide, doe eyes glistening with adoration and faux-unshed tears, it was so obvious how in love she was with you. Even someone as blind and deaf as Helen Keller could pick up on the aroma of unconditional love from Tara. How you didn’t see it was beyond her, and beyond Amber as well. Between the hand-holding and Tara’s love-sick gaze, Amber’s moment of kindness was up. “Come on babe, the service is getting ready to start.” With Amber’s outstretched hand and stony-no-room-for-discussion eyes, Tara was sure you were going to bid her farewell and she wouldn’t see you again until after the funeral. You looked at Tara who was staring at the ground that would soon swallow her mother whole, and then you looked at Amber’s calm yet demanding stare.
Then, you calmly said, “I’m going to stay with Tara.” Tara lifting her head to stare at you in awe left Amber wanting to shove the Latina’s face into the ground.
But seeing as how this was a funeral for Tara’s mother and Tara was now a grieving, sixteen-year-old, orphan, that action would be deemed unsavory. So, Amber swallowed her rage and implemented her perfect actress facade. After all the acting Tara had done, she could easily spot Amber’s. “Yeah, of course. I’ll see you guys after, okay?” Amber’s voice was light and gentle with faux compassion, and her squeeze to you and Tara’s arms felt affectionate. Amber quirked her lips up in a tiny smile meant to comfort Tara and soothe you then walked away.
As soon as the raven-haired girl was beyond your shoulder, you were squeezing Tara’s hand and gently pulling her down to the uncomfortable chair. You smiled gently at Tara when she looked at you, and it left Tara tumbling through the whirlwind of love all over again. Together, you both sat down and waited in comfortable silence for the pastor to show and start the service. Your hold on Tara’s hand never once faltered throughout the service. Even when Tara stood at the podium to give the eulogy (she was very tempted to spew all of the guttural truth of Christina Reyes like how she’d spew blood after a punch, but she held herself back), you never tore your encouraging eyes from Tara’s wobbly ones. That’s how it’d always been, just the two of you together against the rest of the world. Christina tried to take Tara out of the world and Amber tried to replace Tara, but they were nothing against you and Tara’s universal, imperishable bond. It was like…how could Tara explain it? Everything needs substance to live and adapts in order to do so. When it came to you and Tara, that’s how it was, as simple as living. If that made any sense. Tara wasn’t sure it did to most people, but it did to her, and she knew it would make sense to you as well. Just further proof of her philosophy on life with you.

Tara Argh Carpenter - a scream drabble
summary: Tara is having trouble juggling her scars and finding a Halloween costume. Sam, as always, is there for her.
warnings: cussing, scars, mentions of violence. I think that's all?
word count: 1,567
a/n: This lil idea just popped in my head the other day and I shared it with @psychofreakforc who loved it. So this is for her and any other lovers of the Carpenter sisters! Hope you all enjoy.
Tumblr media
The doctors told Tara that regaining full sensations in her left hand was slim.
The doctors also told Tara that she’d always have a limp and metal stuck in her leg because the break was so severe.
But the doctors had also advised her not to play sports due to her asthma, and she had been the reigning star player on her soccer team for five years straight.
Surviving seven stabs and a broken leg was impressive enough. Surely these docs were just quacks. They didn’t know her. They didn’t know Tara. No one knew exactly who the Tara Carpenter was except for one single person.
And that person was her older sister: Samantha Carpenter.
Sure, Sam had abandoned her five years. But Sam had come back when Tara needed her most and she apologized for her absence. “I’m never going to leave your side again. I promise.” That’s what the older, taller Carpenter had said to the younger, smaller Carpenter.
Sam had her reasons and her apologies, and the sisters had shared trauma from their boyfriend and girlfriend trying to murder them and their friends. They both had Christina Carpenter as their mother.
With all of that being said, Tara knew - she knew that there was one person who always believed in her no matter what and that was Sam. Besides, Tara was constantly proving people wrong. She proved Christina wrong when she said she wouldn’t last a week after her birth, she proved all those taller kids wrong at soccer, and she proved Amber wrong.
Tara knew she wasn’t going to magically heal over night and that some parts would take longer than others. She’d waited five years for Sam to come back to her, she was a patient person.
But it’s October now, and Halloween is only a week away, and she can’t find a costume for the big party one of the frat houses were going to throw. Every outfit either looked weird on her or clashed too much with her scars. And she still needed that damn cane to walk on, which didn’t match any costume.
She guessed she could go as an old lady. Old ladies use canes to get around. But Tara’s cane was also special.
With a cane, you use the hand opposite of the injury. Which is fine and dandy if your ex didn’t snap your right leg in half then shove a knife through your left hand. So, her grip wasn’t the best suffice to say. Google Kerry Weaver from ER and you’ll know exactly the type of cane Tara had.
She growled as she tossed the cowgirl hat Anika had given her to the floor. Anika and Quinn had suggested a Cowgirl Barbie (Margot Robbie representation!) and Tara figured it was worth a shot. It almost worked. Almost.
“Hey, sweet girl.”
Tara glared at the visitor as she eased herself down to her bed.
Kirby tossed her hands up with her eyebrows in surrender. “Woah. What’s the fuck-the-world glare for?”
“Maybe this is just my resting face, Kirby.”
The blonde shaped her lips into an o. She just got called her first name, that meant Tara was in a mood. Kirby said nothing as she left.
Tara figured that was it - hoped it was, she didn’t have the energy to deal with any bullshit at the moment - but of course it wasn’t.  Barely two seconds later and there Sam was, standing in the doorway with her head innocently cocked to the side.
“Hey, babygirl. What’s wrong?”
That was a hilarious remark. Tara almost told Sam she should be a stand up comedian.
“What’s wrong? What’s wrong is that my body is fucked up and I can’t find a fucking decent Halloween costume to wear! What nineteen-year-old shows up to a party with a legit limp and cane?” She went with that instead.
Sam didn’t say anything. She just sat down next to her trembling baby sister and cupped the shell of Tara’s tense shoulder blade.
Tara’s entire body twitched as if she’d been stung. She moved away from her sister with a whiny, “Sammy” but it was no use. Sam saw the way Tara was trembling with rage and knew that soon enough it was going to fester into sobs.
Sam just rubbed Tara’s back soothingly, easing the younger girl into the crying stage. And when Tara ended the next phase, Sam was there to pull the small girl against her. As Tara curled into Sam’s side to hide away from the world, Sam wrapped her arms around Tara and solidified the wall between Tara and the darkness of the world.
It wasn’t until Tara’s sobs had receded to shaky breaths that Sam spoke. She made sure to give Tara her spare inhaler so that she could have a clear mind and not a clenched chest to listen to Sam.
“Tar, your scars-“
“Sam, I swear, if you say that my scars are beautiful and I should embrace them, I will throw myself down the stairs.” Tara threatened with a wobbly voice.
The both of them shared a terse, watery chuckle before silence settled over them. Sam took the moment to admire her baby sister’s side profile. Her eyes picked up on the barely noticeable scar on Tara’s chin. It was just a speck, barely noticeable, but Sam remembered it as the plate Christina had thrown and a shard had nicked Tara.
It wasn’t bad at all, but Tara had sobbed and sobbed after it happened. Sam cleaned the little girl up and took Tara to her bedroom to read a story to the younger girl until she was calm.
Sam was always taking care of Tara. Tara wanted to be able to take care of Sam too.
Tara took another puff from her inhaler, blowing Sam from the past to the present.
“Your scars don’t have to be a bad thing, Tara. They don’t need to be the focus of you.”
Tara screwed her face up in bewilderment. She didn’t want any sort of motivational speech about her scars to love them.
“Sam-“
“Come on, what was your favorite episode of Scooby-Doo as a kid?”
Okay, now Tara was lost. “I don’t know, that was forever ago.”
“It was the one with the pirate! Remember? What was his name? It had something to do with a beard…”
Tara shook her head. She couldn’t believe she was actually playing into this.
“The Ghost of Redbeard.”
Sam clapped excitedly and gave a slight nudge to Tara. “Pirate Redbeard! Yes!”
Tara nodded her head, a grin slicing across her lips despite not wanting to. “Yeah, but it was the movie I was obsessed with. Pirates Ahoy!”
Now it was Sam’s turn to be lost. “They did pirates more than once?”
Tara laughed at her older sister.
“Okay, even better then. There’s numerous representation of pirates in Scooby-Doo, and there’s a whole movie series based on pirates.”
Tara raised her eyebrows. “You mean Pirates of the Caribbean?”
“Yeah, that.”
Tara snorted at her sister.
“Pirates are very common. And what do you think of when you first hear the word pirate?”
Tara wrinkled her nose up as she shrugged. “I don’t know. Arrrrg matey! Give me yer money!”
Sam couldn’t contain the laughter from bubbling over at Tara’s (awful) interpretation of a pirate. At first, the younger girl could only blush and shake her head, pouting at her older sister. But then Tara started to grin, and she ended up laughing along with Sam.
It felt like Sam needed an inhaler this time, she couldn’t remember the last time she had laughed that hard. Or when was the last time Tara laughed that hard. She wiped the tears from her eyes and sniffed before continuing.
“No, but good guess.”
“A plank?” Tara guessed next.
Sam shook her head again. The other girl sighed, clearly exasperated.
“Come on, Sammy. I’m tired of guessing.”
“A wooden foot and a hook for a hand!”
Oh.
Tara stared at her sister, not really knowing what to say to that.
“It’s your leg you’re most worried about, right? And there’s no way to hide the scar on your hand. So, use it to your advantage! Be a pirate!”
It was true that boats, jewels slash money, and those replacements were the first thing to come to mind when associating pirates with things. And it was true that, in a way, Tara did have a wooden foot and a hooked hand.
The third truth was that Tara used to love pirates, only because she’d play it with her friends and Amber would get to save her at the end. She missed having Amber as her hero instead of her villain.
“Okay. A pirate it is then.” Tara confirmed.
The squeal that came out next wasn’t from Sam but from Quinn. The Carpenter sisters scoffed with a smile on their faces as the redhead went into a long spiel about helping Tara be the sexiest pirate anyone had ever seen. “Maybe someone has a pirate kink.” Had been said.
In the end, Tara was still limping and she couldn’t feel everything in her left hand. But she did go to the party and have a good time. That was proving the people who thought her injuries would ruin her life, wrong.
And Sam was there with a beaming smile on her face.

Murder in Woodsboro had become a common occurrence ever since 1995. There was first the horrific murder of Maureen Prescott on September 25th, 1995. While Cotton Weary had initially been convicted of raping and murdering Maureen, it was later revealed that Billy Loomis and Stuart Macher were the ones who had slayed Maureen after Cotton had left the residence from having an affair with Maureen. Exactly one year later - September 25th, 1996 - Casey Becker and her boyfriend Steven Orth were gruesomely murdered. The following days continued with threatening phone calls and attacks by an unknown killer dressed in a Halloween costume. By September 28th, there was a total of seven deaths, two of them being the killers Billy and Stu. The case was a big break for local reporter Gale Weathers and effectively made Sidney Prescott a star against her own will. Miss Weather’s The Woodsboro Murders became a hit and was labeled as a New York Times Bestseller. From there, Hollywood had produced a film franchise based off of the book and real life horrors - Stab. There were three more killing sprees of Ghostface attacking Miss Prescott, Miss Weathers, and Mr. Riley. The three were legends in the small town in California. The fourth killing spree had circled all the way back to the beginning: Woodsboro. So, the citizens of Woodsboro were used to grisly murders and reporters were constantly biting their nails until the next juicy story. (No other reporter or journalist could ever compare to Gale Weathers in talent or popularity though.) Still, this next murder was shocking to the people left in Woodsboro. “This is Amy Bennet from Channel 7. Tonight, on May 19th, 2018, forty-one-year-old resident Christina Carpenter has been killed in self-defense by her sixteen-year-old (youngest) daughter Tara Carpenter.”

It's the Great Pumpkin, Santana Lopez
Part One
summary: Santana loves Quinn, but she also loves Halloween.
warnings: cussing and alludes to smut.
word count: 2,688
Tumblr media
Santana loved Halloween. The cool decorations, the scary movies (where she got to hold Quinn when she got scared), haunted houses that made her blood rush like crack, corn mazes, pumpkin pie, the not too cold but not too hot weather, getting to scare little kids with Puck, the parties. She was really in her element at this time of the year. It was all so perfect. She was infatuated with October.
Quinn, on the other hand, despises Halloween. The decorations were too much work, the scary movies were called that for a reason, haunted houses were worse than the movies (she didn't have to worry about the money because Santana paid for her, the only time she didn't fight her girlfriend on money because if she was going to face Quinn to something she didn't want to do then she could pay for it), corn mazes took too long and were confusing, the pumpkin pie-well, she actually couldn't complain there, she got cold easily (but she couldn't complain there either because most of the time Santana gave her her own jacket or sweatshirt), Santana and Puck were cruel and childish (it was this friendship that reminded Quinn she was dating a child), and don't even get her started on parties. Having to find the perfect costume (that usually matched Santana) and the heavy ass cauldron Puck and Santana got out for punch. It was ridiculous. She hated October.
Currently, Santana was giving her another reason to despise the month.
They were in the middle of a passionate make out session, the one's where you can't stop touching each other and you're breathing heavily. They were consumed with each other. Or at least Quinn was. Suddenly Santana was slowing down the kissing to pecks. She grinned down at her excruciatingly frustrated girlfriend.
"Close your eyes." Santana pecked Quinn on the lips and hopped off the bed with grace.
Quinn huffed but did as she was told. She stretched her legs out in front of her and placed her hands on her hips. A few seconds later she felt Santana hovering over her and couldn't help but grin. Feeling Santana so close was one of her favorite things, the intimacy felt like it was on a spiritual level for her.
"Open them."
Quinn wished she hadn't.
She slapped Santana hard on the arm. A frown immediately overtook the Latina's features. Even though Quinn couldn't see her, she knew the brunette had her eyebrows furrowed in that way that creased her forehead and was gaping at her.
"Ow! What the hell Quinn?" Her voice was muffled behind the depths of the mask.
"Seriously Santana? We were in the middle of making out and you just had to put that ridiculous thing on!"
Santana had slipped on a Michael Myers mask (the one from the first Rob Zombie remake because she had all of them [and each mask from the movies and show of Scream], insert Quinn's eye roll). She sighed and slipped the mask off, tossing it down the bed where it toppled off and onto a pile of clothes on the floor. She wrapped her arms around Quinn's waist pulling her close.
"You're right babe, totally not romantic. I apologize." She kissed Quinn on the corner of her mouth to prove her point.
Quinn relaxed in her lovers embrace and cupped her strong forearms. She sucked her lips into a pout and gazed up at soft brown eyes that were the axis of her entire world.
"Don't worry, I won't make you go downstairs and get butchered by my brother so he can come upstairs and kill me." Santana grinned.
Quinn slapped her again but Santana only laughed this time. 'Asshole.' Quinn thought. She couldn't believe this was her girlfriend sometimes, the woman she planned on spending the rest of her life because yes, they were that cliche love where they grew up together and only ever dated each other.
"Don't talk about me dying Rob Zombie style!" Quinn exclaimed in her high pitch voice.
Santana's eyes widened adorably making it hard to be mad at her. Seriously, when she got all soft and excited like a little kid it melted Quinn's damn heart.
"Baby, you just made a horror movie reference!" She shook Quinn slightly.
Quinn rolled her eyes and looked away from the bright, warm, intoxicating eyes. She didn't want to give in to those dimples like she oh so often did.
"Yeah well you started it." Quinn muttered.
Santana jerked Quinn's body down earning a squeal from the blonde. Quinn's hands immediately went up and tangled into luscious brunette locks (it was just reflex at this point, like wax on wax off).
"I'm gonna fuck you so good Fabray."
Quinn chose to ignore her girlfriend's poor grammar and focus on said girlfriend mauling on her neck and shoulder. Santana's tongue dipped out ceremoniously, Quinn's hips bucking up on their own accord. The blonde sealed her eyes shut and tried to calm down the excitement shooting down her stomach and between her legs.
"You may want to lock your door so Angel doesn't walk in."
That happened more than Quinn cared to admit. And every fucking time it happened was right when Quinn was on the cusp of orgasming. Later that night she'd have to get herself off, alone in her bedroom. (More often than not she'd end up calling Santana.)
"He's gone." Santana murmured against Quinn's earlobe, her teeth nicking Quinn's ear in a devilish smile.
Quinn slapped Santana on the arm but it didn't hold any power to it this time. She was deteriorating at a rapid pace.
"Ass." Quinn was already breathless.
Santana smirked and unzipped Quinn's Cheerios skirt. 'Maybe making horror references isn't so bad after all.' Quinn thought in a euphoric bliss as Santana made her come the second consecutive time.
*****
"We have to go shopping." Santana told Quinn as they put their clothes back on.
Quinn's uniform was on the floor on her side of the bed (just thinking that gave Quinn goosebumps, she couldn't believe they had designated sides). Santana was picking through her room to find some clean clothes to slip on. It was still something they argued about and Quinn expected Santana to keep their place clean (or at least picked up) in the future.
"What for?" Quinn's husky voice was making an appearance and Santana couldn't help but shiver as she zipped up Quinn's Cheerios top.
"Costumes, duh." Santana said with a crinkle of her nose. What else would she be talking about? Did Quinn not have a calendar?
Quinn sighed and turned to look at her half dressed girlfriend. She was in a black push up bra and underwear with sweatpants (the ones that hung low on her hips that she knew drove Quinn to quite literal madness, Quinn hates it when she wears them for family movie night because all Quinn does is bite her lip or chew her fingernails). Her abs were on full display and her hair was down and slightly fucked.
Perfectly gorgeous.
She scooted closer, Santana following suit like it was second nature, making Quinn smile. The blonde draped her arms around the Latina's neck and Santana rested her hands on Quinn's hips. They worked so well together in every aspect of life; in Cheerios, in New Directions, in their relationship. Whatever Quinn did, Santana followed. Wherever Santana went, Quinn followed.
"It has to be perfect if we want to win." Santana reprimanded the blonde.
"We won last year Tana." Quinn whined.
Not that Quinn was mad or annoyed by winning, she loved winning just as much as Santana (one of the ways they sometimes clashed). But her girlfriend put so much on winning any Halloween related competition, it was exhausting.
"And we're going to win again this year!"
Quinn pursed her lips. It was adorable seeing Santana so confident but she felt like a bitch because she didn't care as much about winning this costume competition like Santana did.
Usually Santana was all knowing in the subject of Lucy Quinn Fabray and noticed things no one else did. But when she was in the Halloween zone, she was in the zone. She was looking off to the side, her eyes huge and animated.
"It has to be something genius, something that no one else has thought of or can do. We have to blow them away, which won't be hard to do considering it's us." Santana tilted her head to the side and smiled proudly.
Quinn smiled and shook her head at how excited her sweet girlfriend was. She hoped with every fiber of her fucking being that nothing bad ever happened to Santana to take away her happiness. It had been a close call with her abuela and there were still bad days, but Santana still smiled and got excited about Halloween. She knew it probably wasn't healthy, but half of her happiness depended on Santana's happiness.
"What? Were you, were you thinking about not going?"
Quinn frowned realizing where this was going. She didn't want to break Santana's heart, the girl got so excited around Halloween time and it was in her "element" as Santana called it. The girl was like Jimmy Fallon in Fever Pitch. She didn't want to upset her best friend or ruin this for her.
"Santana." She started halfheartedly, dropping her arms and pulling back.
"No! Quinn, you have to go."
"Oh, I have to?" Quinn arched a sexy eyebrow challengingly.
"You're my girlfriend, and in relationships you support each other. Like how I go to your silly book club meetings with Berry," Quinn smiled at that. "Or when you got kicked off the Cheerios but still went to watch me. Or how I let you live with me before my parents found out about us and Mercedes let you live with her. Or all the times I've made you bacon or went to the store to get you pregnancy cravings and never snapped at you for your mood swings. Or how I helped you back on the Cheerios this year. Or when I sprained my ankle freshmen year and you carried me around like my knight in shining armor." Santana really could go on for hours.
Santana smiled crookedly causing Quinn to roll her eyes. Her girlfriend knew when she was right and it was annoying as fuck, but she loved it.
"I get your point. 50/50." She smiled.
Santana beamed and nodded her head. Quinn gazed into Santana's hopeful teddy eyes and felt her heart ache in the most wholesome way. She looked down as she she crawled onto Santana's lap. She rested her arms on Santana's shoulders while Santana slid her hands to the small of Quinn's back where Quinn's top had ridden up. (Perfect unison.)
"Alright baby, since I know how excited you get and your parties are always epic,"
"The fucking best." Santana confirmed.
"I'll go." Quinn finished as if her girlfriend hadn't even spoken, smiling her warm, charming smile.
Santana squealed making Quinn's smile widen so much it hurt her cheekbones and mouth. She flung Quinn onto her back and started kissing her all over, giggles erupting from Quinn like the sighs of an angel.
"I love you Lucy Quinn Fabray." Santana threw her head back and shouted.
Quinn laughed and shook her head, completely content. Her girlfriend sure was something else. She was so happy she got lucky and was able to see this soft, closed off side of Santana. Her heart of gold and manners weren't out of the ordinary if you knew her, but sometimes she got so excited and did things like this that even surprised Quinn. Surprise or not, she loved it. And Santana.
"I love you too crazy woman. Now let me up before my mom has to send out a search party for me."
Santana huffed but hopped off of Quinn and the bed. Quinn slid her feet into her tennis shoes and stood up, entering Santana's awaiting arms. Santana had slipped on one of Quinn's many t-shirts she had left at Santana's. Quinn smiled at the shirt and slid her hand into Santana's.
They walked downstairs hand in hand, Santana occasionally rubbing their hands against her thigh as if to make sure Quinn was really there. They walked past the kitchen and to the front door where they were stopped by one Maribel Lopez.
"Quinn! I didn't know you were here."
Quinn's eyes widened in alarm as arms were thrown around her neck. She wrapped her arms around her surrogate's mothers back and looked at Santana worriedly. Santana shrugged nonchalantly. Quinn hoped for Santana's sake that Maribel had just gotten home and didn't hear the animalistic noises from the two horny teens.
"Yeah, Santana and I were going over costume ideas for school next week."
She assumed they'd get to that since her and Santana did that every school year. She must have been right because Santana burst out in a smile that made the whole house glow.
"Awe that's so sweet. You two were always so cute at Halloween time. Remember that time when you went as Cinderella and Tana went as-" Maribel started.
"Okay mami, we don't need to reminisce on every costume pair Quinn and I went as."
Quinn grinned at the blush on her girlfriends face. Santana was known for her "razorblades hidden in my hair" attitude and obsession with Halloween, but she still got embarrassed and shy whenever someone brought up Quinn and Santana as kids. Quinn adored how hard Santana worked to shut down the stories.
Maribel gave her daughter a look then turned towards her second daughter. "Are you staying for dinner?"
"I would love to Mami but my mom's expecting me."
Since they had been in each other's lives since elementary school, Quinn was suppose to call Maribel and David by their first names. Quinn felt awkward doing that, and so there was no confusion, she got to call them Mami and Papi. And Santana called Judy Mamma F.
Every time Santana heard Quinn call her parents that she smiled like she couldn't do anything else in the world.
"Alright, but I expect you both over tomorrow night for dinner." Maribel pointed a warning finger at the blonde.
"Okay." Quinn laughed lightly.
Maribel brought Quinn into another hug (this one more relaxing for Quinn) and kissed her on the side of her head as she pulled away.
"Be safe."
"I will." Quinn smiled reassuringly.
Maribel walked away, having learned that the two lovebirds liked their alone time to say goodbye. Santana walked Quinn the three steps to the door and spun her around to kiss her softly. They were that cheesy couple that did "goodbye kisses" but if anyone asked Santana denied it, and if anyone pointed it out they got to fear the Latina's wrath.
"I love you, you know that right?"
The intensity and worry in Santana's voice was suffocating. It took Quinn away, to some secluded, unknown place that held all the wonders and beauty of the world that couldn't be described by juvenile words or actions.
"Of course." Quinn pecked Santana on the lips, hoping it said everything she couldn't. "I'll text you when I get home about shopping."
Santana beamed and brought Quinn closer against her. "How did I get so lucky?"
Quinn rolled her eyes and smiled. "You got help with math and I got a friend."
Santana crinkled her nose as she smiled and sweetly kissed Quinn again, her tongue dipping in first. They stayed pressed together for a moment before Quinn reluctantly pulled away, every atom in her body screaming to stay connected to Santana, like she was what kept Quinn's heart beating.
As Quinn walked away Santana playfully slapped her ass. She turned to shoot her girlfriend a glare and skipped to her car. While she started her car, she thought back to how her and Santana had met and was thankful that the Latina excelled at everything but mathematics.
Which was funny, because now Santana was better than Quinn at math.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Santana Lopez
Part Two

“Hey Pink!"
Santana turned and burst into a wide smile as Quinn came bounding up to her, all decked out in her Sandy Olsson getup. They greeted each other with a quick kiss (flipping off the hockey and football players in the process). Santana ran her hands along Quinn's waist to the small of her back, her eyes glued to Quinn's cleavage.
Quinn bit her lip in a lustful smirk. Part of the reason she agreed to the costume idea was so she could distract Santana in the classes they had together (if she was lucky, Santana would take her before Judy got home). She placed her hands on Santana's sides and absentmindedly started brushing her fingers there, sending shivers down Santana's spine.
"I don't think you're too pure to pink after all." Santana mused, her eyes huge.
Quinn laughed and hit Santana in the arm playfully.
"Keep staring like that Rizzo and I'll have to take you in the choir room."
"Really?" Santana's eyes were huge and her voice resembled that of a kids after saying they were going to King's Island.
"Santana! No! Anyone could walk in, especially Mr.Schue."
Santana frowned and tangled her fingers with Quinn's hands.
"You know how many times I've fantasized about us fucking on the piano." Santana pouted quietly.
Quinn shook her head in an attempt to rid her mind of the dirty fantasies Santana projected. Santana smirked, knowing full well the effect she had on her girlfriend.
"Get your stuff and walk me to class." Quinn ordered.
Santana straightened up and saluted Quinn earning a bubbly giggle from Quinn.
Sometimes it scared Quinn how happy Santana made her. It was almost as if her happiness depended on Santana or Santana's happiness. (It didn't, just sometimes Santana made her so groundbreaking-ly happy that it warranted some concern.)
"Aye aye Captain." Santana smiled charmingly.
Quinn admired Santana in her buttoned up black shirt that had the top two buttons undone. Her eyes outlined her girlfriends glorious biceps down to her scandalous legs.
"You're a dork." Quinn snorted as Santana closed her locker.
Santana slung her Pink Ladies jack over the crook of her arm. They joined hands and began their trek down the boisterous halls of McKinley.
"Careful Fabray, you only get away with comments like that because you're my girlfriend."
Quinn leaned in close to Santana, almost bumping them into a couple of lousy teens. Her voice was low and husky and matched her "innocent" smile.
"I get away with a lot because I'm your girlfriend." Her hot breath tickled Santana's ear.
Quinn smirked as Santana tripped over her feet. A few brave souls glanced at them to see what was happening and were awarded with Santana's death glare.
They made it to Quinn's first period class (economics) where Santana walked Quinn to her seat. Santana draped her arms around Quinn's neck, barracking Quinn's gaze. When the school first found out about the couple, they had been scandalized; half of them didn't expect it and the other half were revolted. But once you see a baby come out of your girlfriends sacred girlfriend, it kind of puts things into perspective. So they kinda said screw it and just showed up to school junior year hand in hand with Santana walking Quinn to class and public displays of affection. Turns out they were pretty affectionate. Quinn's economics class was used to this by now.
"If anyone makes any moves on you or ogles you, just text me. I'll go all Lima Heights on their perverted asses."
Quinn scoffed and slid her arms comfortably around Santana's waist. Santana unconsciously melted into her girlfriends warm embrace.
It was their one problem with their costumes: jealousy. Quinn just took it out by aggressive making out (and aggressive sex later). Santana's methods were a little less healthy. (She actually broke a dudes nose over summer break for just saying hi to Quinn a little too warmly.)
"I don't think that'll be necessary San." Quinn mused lightly.
"Promise me Quinn. Just humor me." Santana flitted her eyes up and rolled her head restlessly.
Quinn squeezed Santana's sides to gain her attention and pulled her closer. Santana's vulnerable eyes glanced up to meet Quinn's security blanket ones.
"I promise."
Then Quinn leaned down and softly kissed Santana to prove that it wasn't necessary but she would tell her because she knew Santana had a phobia of abandonment. The kiss soon heated up. Quinn still wasn't a fan of people watching them but with her lips on Santana with her girlfriend holding her, she felt protected from the universe and all its unfair problems.
"Miss Lopez, you're going to be late for your class. Again."
Miss Wilcowski reminded the young couple as Rosie O'Donnell but with short hair and a cat lady.
"See ya later hot stuff." Santana pecked Quinn one last time and then was off.
Quinn turned and sat down in her seat.
"Say, Miss Wilcowski, you're looking absolutely-"
"Save it Lopez."
Quinn laughed from her seat and quickly covered her mouth in a weak attempt to hide it from Santana. Even though she didn't comment on it or look back, she knew Santana heard.
"You're my hero!" Santana shouted then hurried out of the classroom.
Antagonizing Quinn's economics teacher was something Santana enjoyed a little too much.
"Two more years." Miss Wilcowski grumbled.
*****
They were peacefully walking to Glee Club (or as peaceful as you can walk in a loud, overpacked hallway with annoying teenagers) when Puck came running up behind them and pretended to stab them with a fake machete.
Santana was laughing up a storm and was congratulating her best man with a high five. Quinn glared at Puck and punched him in his arm.
"What the hell Puck?"
"What's wrong Blondie, you scared?" Puck slid his Jason mask back on and raised the machete in her face.
Quinn found her way back to Santana's side and grabbed her hand as if it was second nature.
"Don't worry baby, I'll protect you." Santana cooed in a baby voice.
"You're both asses." They laughed at the blonde and entered the choir room. "How'd you even get that in here? You could get expelled for that and then we'll be disqualified from Sectionals."
"Relax Baby Mamma, I won't get caught. As long as no one snitches." He fixed them both with raised eyebrows warningly and pointed at everyone who was present in the choir room.
"Call my girlfriend Baby Mamma one more time Puckerman and I'll cut your dick off so you never impregnate another woman again." Santana threatened.
Puck raised her hands in surrender and sat back in his seat. Santana rolled her eyes, her hand gripping Quinn's a little too firmly (she was starting to loose blood circulation).
When Quinn had gotten pregnant, her and Santana had broken up. It was a stupid fight that they both regretted, but they had foolishly broken up and Quinn was heartbroken. So she went to Puck to try and get back at Santana. The plan was to just make out a little. But then she got drunk and one thing led to another. Santana had been heartbroken after finding out Quinn was pregnant (which of course was expected), but Quinn kept the father a secret. Until Rachel blabbed her mouth and lets just say they were going for a record of breaking up in one year.
(Through it all, Santana was always there for Quinn. Even after she found out her girlfriend got pregnant by her best friend while they were broken up, she still got Quinn whatever she wanted. Quinn specifically remembers one time when Santana buying bacon for Quinn with a scowl on her face. That's when she realized that Santana was the only one for her. Sure she was pregnant at 16 and Santana was really the only person she dated, but it was enough to know that Santana was her person. It was like it was tattooed on her soul.)
Santana had forgiven them both (Quinn first since she was her best friend and love of her life, plus those puppy eyes she kept sending Santana was her kryptonite) but she didn't like to be reminded about it. Quinn could talk about Beth all she wanted and how gutted she still felt to this day, but when Puck was brought up things got sour.
They sat down in their seats in front of Puck and waited for Mr. Schue to arrive. To pass the time (and to slightly rub it in Puck's face) Santana cradles Quinn's legs on her lap and started making out. If there was one room Quinn felt free and safe to be affectionate with her girlfriend with (aside from their bedrooms), it was the choir room.
"You guys are disgusting." Lauren remarked from beside Puck.
"I think they're cute." Tina defended the couple.
"And what are you suppose to be? A poster for Do Not Do It, It Gets Better signs?" Santana shot back, ignoring Tina's comment.
Quinn trailed her fingers down Santana's arm, admiring every inch of her. She was just going to let Santana and Lauren duke it out until Mr. Schue came in.
"Hey Quinn." Brittany smiled animatedly.
Quinn slid her legs off of Santana's lap and angled her body towards her best friend. Santana's hand blindly searched for Quinn's until the blonde's fingers brushed the tips of hers.
Brittany had on a kid version of a Catwoman suit so Quinn assumed the go lucky blonde was shooting for a regular cat and not the sexy superhero. She even had a headband of cat ears on and whiskers drawn on her face.
"Hey Britt. You look amazing."
"Obviously. I look better than everyone here."
Quinn laughed and nodded her head along. She wasn't sure about that but she wasn't about to burst the jolly girl's bubble.
"Hey, hey. Hello. Excuse me. Just because your stalker of a girlfriend went overboard with her costume," Quinn had to laugh because that was rich coming from Santana. "Doesn't mean you get to flake out on this sacred holiday."
Finn looked to the side in that confusing way of his with his hands stuffed in his pockets.
"I didn't."
"Really? Then where's your Frankenstein costume?" Santana was becoming more annoyed by the second.
"I'm a football player." Finn said it like it was obvious.
"A-a football played? Please tell me you're kidding-Berry tell me your neanderthal boyfriend is kidding."
Quinn leaned in closer to Brittany and watched her girlfriend get all worked up. It was honestly quite adorable when Santana tore into people over their costumes. Sure Santana was a little obsessive when it came to Halloween (and by a little Quinn means a lot, a lot a lot a LOT), but it had its cute, wholesome moments.
"He's not." Rachel seemed just as disappointed in her boyfriend as Santana was.
"I'm Aaron Rodgers. See?" Finn pointed to his jersey.
It was green with two yellow stripes on the arms. The number 12 was in bold white letters on the front and back with RODGERS in the same lettering on the back. Finn turned to put his jersey on full display, smiling goofily the whole time.
At first Santana just sat there with her mouth hanging low. Then she clamped it shut and shook her head. She started muttering some things in Spanish under her breath, nothing Quinn could understand. (After growing up with the Lopez's Quinn had taken it upon herself to learn Spanish.) Quinn about fell out of her seat and onto Brittany's lap when Santana jerked Rachel into the empty seat beside her. It was the last seat in the row meaning Finn couldn't sit with Rachel.
"You're going to sit in the corner and think about a better costume idea for tomorrow night." Santana was pointing to the other side of the room in the back room, her eyes purposefully looking away from Finn.
The tall boy opened up and closed his mouth a few times (Quinn just knew Santana was dying to make a fish joke) then stumbled off in that direction. He plopped down next to Mike and looked at him questioningly. The innocent man just shrugged.
Santana molded herself into Quinn's side and shook her head.
"Men. What are they good for?" Santana muttered.
Quinn laughed and kissed Santana on the side of her head. Santana crinkled her nose in disgust but Quinn knew it was just for show. She still had to maintain some badass status in the school.
"Wow guys! You all are looking sharp. I'm impressed." Mr. Schue clapped his hands once and turned his proud father smile on them all.
Santana shot Quinn a proud, excited smirk that rearranged Quinn’s insides. Quinn shook her head but smile nonetheless.
Rachel was dressed as Fanny Brice (of course), Tina was a goth vampire, Mike was dressed as Ren McCormack at the end of Footloose (and boy did he look good), Sam was decked out in Bruce Springsteen attire, Mercedes was killing it as Batgirl, and Artie was mirroring Professor X.
Mr. Schue was dressed as Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. The three Cheerios had seen Sue dressed as Nicki Minaj in the halls earlier.
Mr. Schue went to speak just for the intercom to come crackling on. Everyone grimaced or covered their ears from the intense crackling. Brittany covered her cat ears.
“Hello? Hello? Is this thing on? Hello, students and faculty of William McKinley High. You have all submitted your Halloween Costumes to Miss Pillsbury, those of you who have attended this competition.”
The glee club erupted in applause. Santana planted a passionate kiss on Quinn’s lips causing Rachel to scoot her seat away. The whole school had participated in the costume competition but Santana was confident in them winning. The Latina had come in top ten her freshmen year and last year won with Puck as Chucky and the Bride of Chucky. This year she was determined to win with Quinn.
“Before I give the results, to the boy in the hockey mask terrorizing the student body, I ask you to stop or you will be caught.” Quinn turned around and glared at Puck. “Now, I would like to go over a few guidelines for those trick or treating Sunday.”
The walls of the school practically shook from the student body groaning. Mr. Figgins started going over the guidelines that they should go in pairs or with an adult, not to go up to houses without the light on, and to, “Be aware of razor blades hidden in candy.”
Mercedes cocked her head to the side and scrunched up her nose.
“I thought that was a myth.” Artie voiced.
“Also, as the leaders of our future, the faculty of William McKinley, and your parents, advise you to not throw any Halloween bangers this weekend.” Santana, Puck, and Sam all sniggered earning hits from Quinn, Lauren, and Mercedes. “Your safety is our number one priority.”
Figgins cleared his throat and was heard pulling a piece of paper out (with some difficulty).
“Now, for the long, awaited, results.” There was a dramatized pause.
“Oh get on with it!” Santana shouted at the intercom.
“Santana.” Mr. Schue said softly but sternly.
Quinn placed a calming hand on Santana’s knee. This was one of Santana’s not so cute moments. The Latina sighed and rolled her eyes dramatically.
“This is bull-“
“In third place we have Rachel Berry as Miss Fanny Brice.”
“What? This was handmade, I even got it dry cleaned!” Rachel exclaimed.
“Can it hobbit.” Santana snapped.
Rachel did her signature pout and crossed her arms defiantly. Santana had migrated to the edge of her seat and was staring lasers into the intercom.
“In second place, we have a couples costumes. With a new take on Rizzo and Sandy from Grease, we have teenage lesbians Santana Lopez and Quinn Fabray.”
‘Figgins needs to learn to stop misidentifying sexualities.’ Quinn thought to herself. Just because they were two females in a relationship and Santana was a lesbian didn’t mean Quinn was. Or anyone else for that matter.
“What?” Santana flew out of her seat like a rocket taking off. Her chair tipped over in her wake.
“Here we go.” Mercedes tossed her hand up, remembering when they had lost the couples duet (which Santana still was mad at Sam for even though he understood he just wasn’t ready to come out yet).
“Our winner is Jacob Ben Israel as Dark Vader.”
“It’s Darth.” Sam muttered.
Santana was pacing the choir room, wanting desperately to run her hand through her hair but knew it would ruin her Rizzo hair.
“The top three winners can report to Miss Pillsbury office to take photographs with their trophies. Have a spooktastic day.”
“I’m going to kill that jewfro! I mean, how can he even fit his afro in to that helmet? It would break!” Santana was screaming.
“Santana-“ Mr. Schue started calmly.
Santana started storming out of the choir room, her eyes blazing ferociously.
“Oh no.” Quinn hopped out of her seat with Puck and Sam in toe. “Santana! Leave the small, perverted boy alone!” It was hard to chase after the Latina in heels.
The rest of the glee club got out of their seats to follow, anticipating Santana going Lima Heights on JBI. Truth be told, everyone in glee club had wanted to see that boy hit at least once.
“Guys!” Mr. Schue threw his hands up exasperated and ran his hand through his hair.
“And people say I’m a sore loser.” Rachel muttered as she hurried after the rest.
Santana was stalking the halls looking for a mini Darth Vader. He was so small and Darth Vader costumes were so cheap, they were basically a onesie, he couldn’t be hard to find. Santana was enraged. How could that perverted dwarf win with such a low grade costume of a cliche character?
She finally spotted him, about to enter Miss Pillsbury office. She would never in a million years admit this, even if she was held at gunpoint by one Sue Sylvester, but she was impressed. JBI’s costume wasn’t a onesie. It looked like it was the actual costume from the 80’s. For a second, just a second, Santana second guessed attacking the boy. He was big and covered in plastic.
But alas, he stole her rightful first place, and she was Santana fucking Lopez. Lucky for her he had his helmet off, so she slipped her heel off and chucked it down the hall. Somehow it hit him square in the head.
“Ow!” He started rubbing his head.
Santana became unhinged. She charged the poor boy, tackling him to the floor.
“Oh shit.” Puck said before him and Sam ran after the deranged woman.
Quinn shook her head and followed. ‘I’m dating a psychopath.’
“Stop the violence.”
Santana didn’t really hurt him since he was protected by all the plastic of the suit, but she did scratch him by his eye (fitting for his character). It took Puck, Sam, and Mr. Schue to pull Santana off of JBI and back towards the choir room.
“Don’t mess with Lime Heights!” Santana kicked her legs wildly.
For everyone’s sake, Quinn hoped they won tomorrow at the party. Santana losing (especially to Halloween) while intoxicated was not something anyone wanted to happen.

DATE INTERRUPTED
summary: Artemis and Zatanna spend their first Valentine's Day together.
warnings: cussing probably and some violence
word count: 3,026
Tumblr media
Growing up, Valentine's Day had never been a holiday that Artemis participated in. She thought it was corny as hell and just a way for candy companies to win big in green. She thought it was a pointless holiday. Even when she was with Wally she begged him not to celebrate it. But it was different with Zatanna.
Everything was different with Zatanna.
Artemis swore up and down that the magician hexed her because there was no way she would be going out to a fancy dinner while wearing a fancy dress and fancy jewelry on Valentine's Day! There was so much Artemis did for Zatanna that was so out of character for her.
"That's called being in love Artemis." Wally would say then wrap his arm around Dick.
Barf.
Artemis sighed for what seemed to be the fifteenth time in the last thirty minutes. Zatanna still wasn't back from "patrolling" and their reservations were in fifteen minutes. (Artemis uses quotation marks because when does Zee patrol? She goes where the League tells her and only patrols with Artemis.)
The blonde tapped her finger on her forearm and considered giving up on the whole idea. She hadn't celebrated in the past so why should tonight be any different? Just then there was jiggling at the front door and in came Zatanna Zatara, in all her superhero outfit glory. Artemis had to remind herself to clamp her mouth shut so saliva wouldn't drip onto her pretty navy blue dress.
Artemis was about to ask why Zatanna used her key when she could've just flourished in with a spell, but then her girlfriend was smiling and well, it was kind of hard to formulate words when that happened.
"Hey baby." Pet names was another thing Artemis despised in relationships until she started dating Zatanna.
The blue eyed enchantress leaned down to kiss her girlfriend on the lips but Artemis pulled away. The archer fixed the other girl with a hard glare, her crossed arms stiffening.
"What's wrong?" Zatanna frowned.
Artemis had to get up before that frown broke down all her barriers. "You're late."
The blonde walked several steps away and turned back around to face the girl in trouble. Zatanna spun around easily and smiled carefully.
"Our reservations are in eight minutes, we can still make it."
"Glad to know you didn't forget when our date was." Artemis bit back.
Zatanna frowned and crossed the distance between them in two leisure strides. She slipped her hands out and uncrossed Artemis's arms. Zatanna brushed her thumbs over Artemis' rough knuckles and smiled the universe's most reassuring smile. Artemis defiantly tried to look away from the prodding eyes, but it was no use. In one minute Zatanna would be forgiven.
"In two simple spells I can be dressed and we can be at the restaurant in less than a minute."
"Zatanna-" Artemis went to object but Zatanna was already doing a spell.
"Egnahc otni a ssed."
There was smoke and gust of wind then it all cleared. Zatanna was in a slim fitting black dress that sparkled making her eyes pop out seductively. She disappeared into her bedroom and came back out with a pair of heels. (Right when Artemis got to be the same height as her she got out the heels. Low blow, literally.)
Zatanna reached out and grabbed Artemis' hands, her fingers locking protectively around Artemis. Artemis didn't think she'd ever get over the feeling that came with Zatanna holding her hands in preparation for transportation. She felt safer in Zatanna's hands than she ever did in Wally's arms (or even her dads for that matter). Deep down, like way down deep, Artemis knew Zatanna would never let anything bad happen to her because she loved her the same as Artemis did.
"Actually, I was thinking we could take a cab there." You know, like an actual couple.
"But then we'll be late."
Zatanna uttered a few backwards words and before Artemis knew it they were out front of the restaurant. The blonde gave a slight shake of her head and let Zatanna pull her against her side. Teleportation was still something Artemis was getting used to. Sure the thrill was nice, but it was also a bit disorienting. It was better than zooming around with Wally though.
Zatanna waited three seconds for Artemis to regain her footing before walking them through the front doors. There was a couple already in front of them so they stood back and waited. Artemis bit her cheek to refrain from releasing an annoyed sigh. They were on time but just barely.
Artemis was surprised they were even here at all. All week Zatanna had been dismissing the topic of what they were going to do for Valentine's. Even when they finally agreed on a time and place she didn't seem interested. It was so unlike Zatanna to not want to engage in a conversation with Artemis or to opt out on spending time together. Usually Zee was all over Artemis (not in an overbearing way of course).
No matter how the night went, Artemis would have to thank Ollie for getting them a reservation.
"Have I mentioned that you look beautiful tonight?"
Despite the better of herself, Artemis smiled. She tossed her long hair back and turned to face her girlfriend, angling her head up.
"You realize how cheesy you sound, right?"
"Is it really cheesy if it's true?"
Artemis rolled her eyes but lightly kissed Zatanna on the lips. The couple in front of them had left and the waitress returned so they walked up to the podium. Zatanna opened her mouth but Artemis' voics filtered out instead.
"Zatara, party for two."
Zatanna parted her lips and cocked her head to the side as she looked at Artemis.
"Right this way." The waitress smiled politely at them.
Artemis forced a smile back and followed. Zatanna was silent for several, contemplative seconds.
"You used my last name?"
"Well I wasn't going to use Crock." Artemis scoffed softly.
Zatanna remained silent.
Menus were placed on their table as they were seated and then the waitress left. Artemis glanced over the top of her menu at her girlfriend who seemed to be fidgety about something. Fidgety was definitely not a word she'd use to describe Zatanna. The magician was usually poised and confident.
When three minutes went by without a word between the two or an appearance of the waiter, Artemis decided it was time to take action. Small talk wasn't her strong suite, not even with Zatanna, but she figured she had to make an effort.
"How was patrolling?"
Zatanna looked away from her menu to look at Artemis as she spoke. Artemis admired that about Zee, she always looked people in the eye when she spoke.
"Slow at first. But then Bruce had to leave for a date with Selene so I had to take over for him. I ran into a bunch of Two-Face men but I had it under control."
"Define a bunch." Artemis deadpanned.
Zee chuckled and reached out to unclasp Artemis' fingers from the menu. Artemis sighed and let the magician rub her palm in that soothing way of Zee's.
"Don't worry Arty, I had it under control."
"So you say."
Zatanna smiled at Artemis making her blue eyes shine brighter than bullets ricocheting off of Wonder Woman's bracelets.
"I didn't show up with any cuts or bruises did I?"
"For all I know you could've done a healing spell before walking in."
"You know me so well." Zantanna leaned back in her chair and focused her attention back on her menu.
Artemis hoped that was true because she knew that Zatanna knew her better than anyone else.
Zatanna was back to focusing way too intently on the menu leaving Artemis feeling uneasy. They had been dating for a little over a year now and things had been-well, perfect. But then again, the only other person Artemis had dated was Wally and that was perfect too. Until Artemis faked her death and wanted to get back into the hero life. When things ended between them Artemis had been heartbroken.
It scares Artemis shitless because the thought of losing Zatanna hurts far worse than remembering losing Wally. She sees how Wally is with Dick, how at home they are in each others arms. Wally was willing to get back into the hero life for Dick. Soon enough they would get married, it was inevitable. Dick was the one for Wally. Artemis was sure-no, she was positive that Zatanna was the one for her.
They hadn't moved in together or exchanged "I love you's" yet, but Artemis knew that Zatanna's soul was meant to mesh with hers. Being with Zatanna felt as natural and easy as breathing. To lose Zatanna was like her oxygen being cut off. Artemis wasn't sure how she'd be able to manage in a life without Zatanna, the girl who was magic even without her magic.
She didn't understand why Zatanna was being so distant. It was starting to piss her off because Artemis hated being scared, especially when it came to romantic relationships. She had grown a lot but the fact was that Sportsmaster was still her father and he fucked her up real good.
"Hello. Happy Valentine's Day. My name is Dandy and I'll be your server for today. Can I start you ladies off with drinks?"
Artemis looked up at their waiter. Dandy had hair that was as black as Zatanna's and was gelled back. He was in a white buttoned up shirt with a maroon apron around his waist and black dress pants. His clothes made him seem older than he was. By closer inspection Artemis figured he was barely seventeen.
Zatanna opened her mouth to request a red wine but then there was a huge explosion from outside that rocked the entire building. The overhead lights trembled and several short circuited. There were screams all around with people ducking for cover. Glass from the windows shattered and there was suddenly gusts of wind coming in.
The magician was by Artemis' side in seconds, examining her for any injuries.
Just then Zatanna's phone rang. She whipped it out of her purse and held it up to her phone.
"Zatanna. We need you and Artemis to get to the Gotham docks. Batman and Catwoman are too far away and won't make it in time." Dick's urgent yet calm voice carried through.
"Who are we facing?" Zatanna asked.
Artemis groaned. So much for a nice and peaceful v day with the girlfriend. Maybe normal was too much of a cliché for them.
"The Joker has imported teddy bears with bombs implanted inside them. You need to take down his guys. Bart and Eduardo are going to get the bears."
"And The Joker?" Zatanna arched an eyebrow.
"Bruce will take care of him once he lands."
"Okay. We'll be there." Zatanna hung up and turned to Artemis. "Ready for a wardrobe change?"
"This wasn't exactly how I imagined changing clothes tonight, but what the hell." Artemis quipped.
"Egnahc otni smrofinu!"
There was a cloud of smoke and a gust of warm wind rushing over the two women. When it all cleared both women were in their superhero gear. Zatanna stepped forward and grasped Artemis' hands, much like she had back in the apartment but with more urgency now.
"Woah." Dandy squeaked.
"Mahtog skcod." Zatanna murmured.
This time there was no time to regain her footing. Artemis was thrust into battle with the Joker's goons upon arrival. She groaned and blocked one of the guys blows with her arm. She kicked him in the chest and unsheathed her sword.
Zatanna was already muttering spells and blocking attacks. There was a blur of red and yellow and Eduardo teleporting inside of the truck. Artemis didn't waist anymore time to attack.
It was a pretty even fight, especially with Bart and Eduardo knocking guys out of their way on their way back and forth. From the stinging in her hands Artemis could tell she was punching harder than she needed to. It didn't matter though.
She elbowed one of the guys attempting to grab her from behind in the face and shot one in front of her with an arrow. She heard the crunch of the nose from the guy behind her breaking and whipped around to roundhouse kick him. Another guy soon came charging but she only hit him with an arrow. Someone else tried to attack her from behind, wrapping his arm around her and attempting to choke her.
Artemis elbowed him three times in the ribs-harsh-then stomped on his foot. She used this opportunity to grab ahold of his arm and used her weight to fling his body around hers onto the concrete. There she wrenched his shoulder out of his socket earning a cry of pain. She stomped on his face and shot a guy behind Eduardo.
"Kind of harsh wasn't that Arty?" Zee mused from behind.
Artemis turned around and saw Zatanna crinkling her eyebrows together. There was a smile twitching at the corners of her mouth but her eyes were dark with concern.
"Tsiwt ruoy elkna." Zatanna said to the guy charging her and turned to fully face Artemis.
"Are you tired of me?"
"What?" Zatanna was clearly taken aback by Artemis' blunt question.
Artemis had no idea why she was choosing now, of all time and places, to have this raw conversation with Zatanna. But it was happening and she was full of adrenaline so there wasn't any turning back.
"This whole week I've been trying to make plans with you and you wouldn't listen. I was better off talking to one of Poison Ivy's plants than I was you." Artemis vented.
Zatanna put her hand up and sent a goon flying back.
"And patrolling? Really? The only time you patrol is with me Zee. It's like you were delaying going on the date, you even used your front door instead of teleporting in!"
"Artemis." Zatanna tried.
"Raquel told me how when you guys were together, you set up this whole romantic date and were all excited. Why were you so put off tonight?"
Bart whizzed by in Zatanna's background, taking out three goons. She reached out and awkwardly grabbed Artemis' gloved hands. She heaved a heavy sigh and kicked her boots against the concrete. The only time Artemis ever saw Zatanna do that was when she was being scolded by Bruce.
"Artemis, I promise I am not tired of you. I'm nowhere near getting tired of you."
Artemis stood there patiently awaiting the rest of Zatanna's explanation. Both girls had trouble opening up so they knew to be patient if the other one was doing so.
Zatanna bit her lip for a second before plunging on. "Valentine's Day is supposed to be a day of grand gestures. In the past, with Dick and Raquel, all I had to do was buy flowers or watch some rom com. They were nice but, I was a kid then and I didn't love them."
The l word definitely did not go unnoticed by the archer. Zatanna inhaled a big breath and exhaled again.
"I know it's only been a year but," Zatanna glanced around and smiled bashfully. "I was planning on asking you to move in with me."
Okay, Artemis was definitely not expecting that to come out of Zatanna's mouth. The blonde just stood there gaping at the other girl like a fish on land. Zatanna smiled uneasily and shuffled her feet.
"I've kind of been in love with you since that Halloween night when we took down Harm. This sounds cheesy but when we got together, it felt like a dream come true. I thought that maybe after a while it would all go away, that either I finally got you so I wouldn't want you or you'd leave like my dad. But neither of those happened. And I realized that I really love you and want you to mo-"
"Move in with you." Artemis finished in a dead trance like tone.
"Yeah." Zatanna finished breathlessly.
They both stood there in silence, the only sounds being sirens in the background and the humming of the waves. The loudest noise of all was the hammering in Artemis' chest. She was sure that her heart was going to burst out of her chest and explode all over Zatanna's white buttoned shirt. She definitely didn't want to scar Zatanna for the rest of her life and leave her jaded about love.
She couldn't believe it. The whole week, Artemis was scared that she was losing Zatanna when Zatanna was scared about losing Artemis. Asking her to move in and dropping the l bomb didn't seem to be the direction Zee was heading in, but Artemis was happy that's what ended up being the case.
"Are you moving in with her or what?" Bart hollered.
Both girls turned to look at Bart who was standing several feet away. Eduardo elbowed him in the ribs causing him to rub them.
"The kid has a point."
Artemis giggled because she always thought that Zatanna would be great with kids, but it turns out she's completely awkward around them.
"Sure, I'll move in with you."
"Crash!" Bart exaggeratedly fist pumped the air.
"And?" Zatanna raised an eyebrow.
"And what?" Artemis mused.
Zatanna huffed and jutted her lips out slightly. Artemis giggled and rested her forearms on Zatanna's shoulders. Zee immediately rested her hands on Artemis' hips. She loved watching Zee squirm because the magician was usually so cool and confident. It was nice to know that even Zatanna Zatara could get nervous.
"I love you too, Zatanna."
Zatanna beamed that mega watt smile that was more magic than the spells she conducted on a daily. Artemis smiled back, Zatanna's too infectious not to. They both leaned in and attached their lips.
"Double crash!" Bart exclaimed over the exchange of I love you's.
"Zee?"
"Yeah, Arty?" Zatanna hummed.
"Take me home." Artemis beamed, the never ending feeling of euphoria blossoming in her chest.
"As you wish."
