Headcanons about the ghouls, because I feel like crud and stayed home from work. Let's go.

-Aeon can't cook, he burns pretty much everything he tries to make except for eggs. He can make eggs, but that's only because Dew stood by and watched him do it.

He gets too fidgety/wants to move around instead of paying attention to what's going on in the pan, and that usually results in burnt or underdone food.

In contrast to Aeon, Dew can cook... he just doesn't like to.

It takes too much time in his opinion, but he will happily wait for someone else to make him something to eat.

-Rain eats bugs, and he's not even remotely ashamed of that fact, though perhaps he should stop trying to get others to join him for "a dip and dine" at the lake if he's unwilling to provide other options...

-Cumulus is a dinosaur enthusiast, which I've said before, but on top of that, she loves to explore and learn about things in general.

She's the fun fact queen and absolutely kills at trivia night.

-Mountain is very particular about how he keeps his garden, to the extent that no one helps him with it anymore, because he gets huffy/annoyed when someone does something "the wrong way".

The only gardener he hasn't scared away has, in the past, chased him around the grounds with a metal rake, thrown a boot at him, and kicked him in the face.

It's probably the healthiest dynamic the abbey has seen between him and one of the staff members.

-For reasons unknown, Dew has a strained relationship with Delta, to the extent that he will run if confronted by him.

Everyone is pretty sure the majority of the awkwardness is on Dew's part, though no one has been able to get a straight answer from him about it.

-Copia knew basically nothing about ghouls when he started, but now he has a whole notebook full of fairly accurate information about their physical traits, social dynamics, and various bits of trivia regarding them as a species/individually.

He knows more about them than even some of the other members of the church.

-The ghouls have a whiteboard in their den that is used for a variety of things, but usually for impromptu meetings and visualizing concepts that are hard to articulate.

Copia also has a whiteboard upstairs in his office that he uses for similar purposes, usually to the chagrin of the poor sibling of sin he dragged in there to act as his "rubber duck" for songs or design work.

-Sunny has abandonment issues, and often struggles with articulating her needs, preferring to do things herself for fear that others won't do them for her, even when they offer to do so or have done so in the past.

She feels like she is easy to forget, and tends to be very down on herself internally despite appearing outwardly bright and happy.

Although she knows it's not healthy/is the result of her own internalized issues, she has a hard time being friendly with Aeon and Aurora, but because Aurora is the one who "replaced" her -despite Sunny asking to take time away from the band- she has a bit more misplaced anger towards her.

Because of this, Sunny has been attending counseling to unpack why she feels the way she does.

And lastly;

-While the ghouls act/appear human for the most part, when they gets startled, they instantly devolve into creature mode. Lots of skittering and scampering away and sliding on tile because their claws can't get traction.

On October 21 2023, Ghoul posted these to his pinterest. I looked at the website page data in order to get that date, because I don't think pinterest has a clear way of showing when things were posted (and if it does, I don't know about it).

That's the n//zi salute from Kratcy (CFMOT) and n//zi uniform from Yoshka (CFMOT), complete with a red n//zi armband.

In the last one of Kratcy, the caption is HEIL, MEIN FÜHRER!!! In English, this means HAIL, MY LEADER!!! Führer is the title Hitler gave to himself when he came into power.

On October 22 2023, Ghoul posted this to his twitter.

Three drawings of Four (BFDI/BFB) wearing a n//zi armband. It's censored out in two of them, but Ghoul forgot to censor out the first one. This is an indication that he knew it was bad to draw/post, but did so anyway.

Later that day, he posted this.

Another drawing of Four wearing a n//zi armband, with a caption to spell it out for you.

On October 23 2023, he posted to his twitter again.

Another one.

On December 20 2023 (two months after all those posts), somebody on twitter pointed out the armband in Ghoul's post. The callout post got a little traction, some of the other art was found, and Ghoul was asked why he drew n//zi art. This was his "apology." I included the second screenshot so you know I'm not intentionally cutting anything out with the first screenshot.

Mania does not suddenly make you antisemetic. Mania does not suddenly compel you to draw n//zi imagery. Ghoul tried censoring two out of the three images, trying to hide it. He clearly knew it was a bad thing to do. He is using mental health issues to excuse his actions.

On December 21 2023, he answered this ask on his tumblr.

And then left this in the replies of the ask post.

Again, using mental health issues as an excuse. If you felt bad for it, wouldn't you have deleted it as soon as you got into a clear headspace? Would you not have addressed it sooner instead of waiting for people to call you out on it first? If you were truly trying to ruin your reputation, why did you try to censor some of it? It isn't "old art", either. It's from three months ago.

I'm including this screenshot so people know what the discord server looks like. I am not in this server, I only clicked the link to get the screenshot. I do not know if anybody is co-running this server along with Ghoul, or if it is only Ghoul himself running it.

I'm including this poll because I don't know if he ever made that sideblog or not. If he did, I don't know the url. If anybody does know it, please tell me. I'll leave your name out of it. I just want people to be able to block it if it exists.

Vinnie, She is 27 years old, the lead character in the Story of The Other Happy Place

(Current facts/bio)

she is the only child of 2 middle aged parents. She is adopted. She has severe depression which is why she lives at home. Her best friend is Mads, who is nonbinary and aged 28, they met in a group therapy session for people with depression years ago, they live about an hour apart but talk online all day every day, and usually will spend weekends with each other. It is Vinnie's deepest wish to have a ghost hunting show with Mads, like her favorite Ghoul boys.

Vinnie is fascinated with aliens, shows like the X-files, and is a big “I want to believe” type. Knowing a lot about ghosts and cryptids, local legends and conspiracies. She has started watching a lot of video production stuff on youtube to try and learn how to make a show. She has no idea what she's doing. She's started practicing making some videos on her crappy little webcam and generic cellphone but is too scared to show Mads anything yet because it's SO bad.

Vinnie is a kind and funny person, but is prone to feeling completely shattered by set backs, her depression can get so acute she can barely get out of bed for weeks, and is a disability for her. The thing she hates most about herself is feeling like a failure and not “finishing” anything. Having ideas but no follow through, though a lot of that is simply not her fault, she feels that it is. This “flaw” being brought up is what prompts the main event of the story. Her hobbies include drawing, though her art never seems to gain a lot of traction, (another thing she beats herself up over.) and photography, she has a polaroid style camera she likes to use to take pictures, especially of “creepy” things or “liminal spaces” (though as her friend Mads points out, sometimes she doesnt seem to know what a liminal space is.) She's never been kissed and is bisexual/pansexual bi/panromantic. It just never seemed to work out, (again something she feels like a “failure” over even though it was usually just luck, the other person chickening out etc etc.) she tends to assume the best in others, but the worst in herself, prone to extreme negative self talk.

Magnificus_45:

Generic 'name_birthyear' username, only started a channel for the sake of teaching but continued it as his audience expanded.

Provides '"advice and critic'" for art he finds online (think channels like Solar Sands/Kitchen Nightmares, that kind of style) Pretentious asshole but clearly passionate about his work. Also does art tutorials and 'paint with me' streams but his advice videos are the most popular.

Once accidently revealed a folder/wall collage full of fanart for him and will ban anyone who brings it up. Frequently cancelled, mainly for being a jerk, but always maintains an audience somehow.

TheScrybeOfBeasts:

Whimsical username with a grandiose title, would have also gone with 'name_birthyear' if it weren't for some outside intervention. Started streaming for remote DnD sessions, continued for the fun of it.

Mainly does DnD streams featuring the npcs of the forest, occasionally the others might pop on as special guests. Sometimes does audience streams too where chat votes on the character choices. Has a side channel for nature walks, survival tips and photography.

Intimidating streamer energy but he's actually a huge sweetheart especially to fans. Has a friend in the games industry who gives him first looks at new card and board games (A grand thank you to Kaycee Hobbs for providing us with early access)

GrimoireGraveyard:

Named the channel after her bookstore, afterall that is why it was created in the first place. Started making audiobook videos and book reviews on the side for business but it became a fun hobby instead.

Mainly focuses on supernatural and horror genres but will dabble outside of these themes on occasion. Reads a variety of different horror stories (creepypasta, classics, poems, etc) and reviews them. Also regularly participates in online chess tournaments.

Fans enjoy her soothing voice and relaxing vibes but also her fierce attitude when she really gets riled up. Calls her audience a variety of different pet names like 'my dears' and 'darlings'.

P03:

Username is just their name, plain and simple. They've used the same channel for years, just changed the name and privated some videos not that they're hiding anything beyond the usual 'embarrassing cringe'.

Surprisingly rarely streams so is more well known as an egotistical powermod and/or editor for the others. Wrote all the bots for everyone's chat and discords. Does speedruns and geogesser mostly, boasting about never needing to cheat because they're just that great.

Argues with people on twitter but mainly over stupid gaming opinions on alt accounts. Will ban people for even the most minor of offenses (and is then subsequently banned for being a dickhead)

They all used to mod for Magnificus but after a bunch of mistreatment and disagreements they cut ties and left. There was a drama and callout video but unfortunately it never gained any traction. Goob still mods and attempts to maintain a good relationship with Mganificus, the other two aren't surprised but still voice their concerns.

CaptainRoyal:

All the ghouls frequently end up on Grimora's as additonal voices and contributors but Royal in particular also makes regular guest appearances on Leshy's streams, mainly as one off/gag characters but that's usually enough for the fans to go wild.

G0ldenG1rl:

Uses a vtuber avatar, streams variety content but mostly focuses on editing streams. Thanks every new follower and subscriber regardless of how busy the stream is. Plays up her own innocence but will call out bullsh!t and sometimes slips up and swears. The other uberbots sometimes show up too and will try to steer stream in their own directions.

The Lucky Carder:

Mostly the same as he is in canon minus the 'whole being dead thing', doesn't just do card openings anymore though: he also does variety gaming. Got raided once by one of the others and since then exploded in popularity. P03 sometimes edits videos for him and adds its own 'witty commentary' but Luke usually doesn't take it too seriously.

Blighted is my angst fic where the family loses Leandra instead of Malcolm when a Blight-like zombie virus infects every city in Thedas turning everyone into ghouls. The Architect was successful in his plan and now the remnants of civilization are ruined. Malcolm tries to keep his children alive amongst all odds, but he'd having a hard time losing Leandra and he actively blames Lucky because he was goofing off when he should have been watching everyone's back. He's also having a hard time accepting Lucky's sudden transition and name change so it's also a journey of a father learning to understand his child.

I started writing two chapters in and then I got so sad I stopped and the fic wasn't getting traction anyways. I was really mad at my dad at the time so I made Malcolm into a villain but the fic was supposed to be about healing amongst all odds. The DA2 crew and the DAO and some of the Inquisition crew all band together at the Circle to form the last barrens of civilization. Think of a Walking Dead on Thedas. The Hawkes end up defeating the Architect. Not sure how long it was supposed to be and there was no real plot I was just going to meander but I was having more fun with my epics What Good Can Come From Blood Magic? And For I Have Sinned that I've put it on the backburner until I either get more inspiration or complete the those monsters.

Game 1: Big Wizards > Lasombra Vote

> War Ghouls > Spell of Life

Big Wizards got “all the B team” and struggled to get momentum. Lasombra were a little slow starting, and the Tzimisce get off to the races quickly. The Ministry get a Spell of Life quick.

Things slow down for most, but the Lasombra keep building while the Tzimisce start making War Ghouls.

The Big Wizards start putting some pressure on, but the Lasombra keep chugging along. Soon the War Ghouls find they have minimal pool, and charge backwards right into Carolina Valez who ignores damage from allies and retainers. The Ghouls stop rushing backwards and start ploughing forwards after deciding their future lays in more aggression.

The Lasombra lock down the political landscape, and swiftly oust the Tzimisce. The Ministry are in a bad place in front of a strong Lasombra.

The Wizards keep grinding but don’t get heavy traction, the situation is all it sealed.

Game 2: Nephandus > Lawfirm > !Toreador Gun Party > Big Wizards

Nephandus come out looking like an early terrible threat. The Lawfirm feel the pressure of a slow start in front of a fast predator. The !Toreadors get tooled up, and the Lawfirm struggles more. The Wizards slow build but after the first oust the Nephandus slows to a crawl. The Big Wizards start exploding Nephandii and the !Toreador don’t have the ousting chops or tools to permanently disable the Wizards.

Random Dialogue Prompts

Rituals were special, each annointed to a beautiful apotheosis in the memory of The Clergy. Every Ritual was another chance to gain more traction, get drunk off of the ego boost upon ego boost that came from screaming and squealing patrons who would sing together with Papa and rejoice in Lucifer's unholy name. They never knew just how true each song was, how that power went right into the project's hands for its true higher purpose. The hearts and souls of thousands of sinners were in the caring hands of Papa and his Ghouls, transferring to their worship. Every prayer was power, and yet...why were there cheers that sounded smaller, shriller than that of so many humans? Aether could pick out the smaller humans in the crowd, the ones who were brought by their families.

And it was only inevitable a child would get caught up in the large crowds. So many people stampeding and rushing, it only made sense that someone would lose their grip on their child's hand in the confusion. Ghouls were expected to follow Papa offstage, march back to dressing rooms and cheer and celebrate in rapturous joy, but Aether did not immediately join the group as he found his masked self joining the crowd and returning the distressed young to their parents. It was a swell reunion, over quickly as Aether waved and rushed backstage without a word to a single human. He had thrown himself into the belly of the fleshy, human beast before he was caught scampering backstage by the massive, mountainous Ghoul.

Although initially startling, Aether's wide eyes relaxed back as he realizes Mountain was just offering commentary! Phew! He thought this was something bad! The Quintessence laughed and reached up to pat Mountain on the shoulder.

I can’t really draw that well and haven’t seen any of the show or movies, so here’s my headcanons for what the main ghoul trio’s TikToks are like in place of this prompt. Sorry :|

What the MH Characters’ Tiktoks are Like

Frankie Stein

Her entire tiktok is based around DIY simple science and practical sewing projects, she occasionally mixes it up with recipes.

All of her posts are really cute and useful. It’s mainly things like “how to fix a torn seam (invisible stitching!!)”, “how to make a DIY battery for emergencies (with fruit and veggies!)”, “DIY custom pillowcases for cheap”, and “make your own stain remover”. The only exception to this is her cooking, which is the epitome of what people have come to think of as “tiktok cooking”.

Seriously, someone needs to tell her that making a pumpkin pie cupcake with cinnamon buttercream then filling it with gelatinized brown gravy and topping it with dry box stuffing is not a “well rounded, sweet and savory fall treat”. Tiktok has only been encouraging this behavior.

Clawdeen Wolf

Her tiktok is centered around fashion, both how to make fashion at home, and navigating the gigantic and confusing world that is style. She also has pretty practical shopping tips.

She’s made multiple style and dressing guides, with one for every major occasion. She uses her own outfits as examples where she can; a common comment on her videos is that it seems like her closet goes on infinitely forever, she likes to joke that it does.

She has an ongoing series where she rates celebrity outfits and does her own revisions on the unattractive ones. Eventually she built enough traction to get some merchandise in the form of her revised outfit sketches and logo as stickers.

Draculaura

She does a lot of TikTok dances on her page, and even has created a couple viral ones. At this point she’s just a professional TikTok dancer.

She’s the Queen of thrift shop finds and does thrift shop haul videos, usually hauls consists of cute tchotchkes and old clothes she finds. But every once in a while there’s some ridiculously rare, expensive, or old antiques that she somehow managed to snag for like $4.

Her page has a firm aesthetic, which is a 50/50 split between e-girl and faux-Victorian. Although once in a blue moon she’ll where or do something that’s from another period. Her handle is @1stc.egirl, so it fits.

The Tsukiyama Family’s Pet Milf!

She grew up relatively fortunate for a ghoul, she had both her parents alive and went to school, and was even able to get into collage. She likes kids but doesn’t want her own, so she got a teaching degree. A few weeks after her graduation her family was killed and she was injured in a territory dispute with a stronger ghoul who moved into the area, and fled into the 1st ward despite the dangers of so many CCG to try to escape him. She was homeless for a few months, she had no money and healing was slow as it was hard to hunt when injured, but was approached one night by a man who introduced himself as Mirumo Tsukiyama and asked what a ghoul such as herself was doing in a place crawling with doves. He brought her to a cafe to talk, he told her how he was in the area on business, and she told him about her family and her escape. What caught his attention though, was that she has a teaching degree, and offered her a job

When she started working for the Tsukiyama family it was as a tutor for Shuu, who was about seven at the time. She fell in love with the sickly kid and found herself happily tending to him beyond her duties as a teacher. He was like a little brother to her, the other servants were becoming family as well, and she decided that she’ll make this place her home until she’s killed. As Shuu grew up she rose in rank, getting jobs at the schools he went to to keep an eye on him, getting involved in the company once Mirumo decided his son no longer needs supervision, and ended up being head of household among the servants. She made her home there and is happy to have a family again

Tending to others comes naturally to her. When Shuu is unable to get up from his sickness or struggling to eat, she’ll stay with him if he wants company. When Kanae came of them, she comforted him when he had nightmares of the lost of his family. She seems cold on the outside, but those who know her know that she’s a kind person, and both Shuu and the servants will go to her if they need help, or just someone to talk to

Most of her clothes have been picked out by Shuu. She takes him shopping sometimes when he wants to update his wardrobe, but almost every time it turns into Shuu decided something would look just PERFECT on her and demanding she try it on. She protests, but He has a great eye for these things and is rarely wrong

Despite her stoic and professional look, she has the highest prey drive of anyone in the mansion. She likes hunting for the thrill of the chase, she can’t sleep if she can see out the window because if there’s a bird or a squirrel she’ll be amped up on wanting to go after it. To try to sate some of this instinct without killing excessively or making a fool of herself chasing raccoons in the garden, she goes to recreational soccer matches at a nearby community center on sundays to relieve the need to pursue something. She’s amazing offense, everyone wants her on their team

She has a very weird hobby that she doesn’t talk about but takes great pride in: her restaurant review blog. She can not eat food, she has never eaten food, but she has gained a massive following on a blog she made where she bullshits some insane reviews for fun. She adds in weird backstories of how the character “Hana” (her humansona as it is) found these restaurants and why she gave them the rating she did and it was so wild that it gained traction and people are either certain it’s satire or take it as foodie gospel. It’s so dumb and she loves it

Since she watched Shuu grow up, she was there for all of his phases, and he is very aware that every weird childhood fear, every Cringey middle school obsession, every awkward voice crack, she was there. He is haunted by the fact that she (and sometimes Kanae) know the things about him that he’s rather be forgotten, and believe me they still joke about his first attempts as using eyeliner, but because she knows him so well with her he can swallow his pride and just enjoy the things he’d tell no one else about. Every October they watch Repo! The Genetic Opera together, he would never let anyone else know that he likes it, let alone knows about it, but they’ve done this every year since he was 14

Hellsing Liveblog, Ch.11-13

This is the “Balance of Power” arc.

One of the things that frustrated me about the Hellsing TV anime (as opposed to the Hellsing Ultimate version) was that the TV series aired while the manga was still running, and it seemed to struggle between following the source material or just diverging into all new stories.    I think if Gonzo had made up their minds one way or the other, it would have ended up a better show.   Instead, there were all these filler scenes of Seras training with human soldiers, which seemed like an utter waste of the character’s time.    Worse, this meant the human soldiers featured much more prominently than they ever did in the manga, where they all get killed off by Chapter 9 or something.   And if you know that’s coming, like I did, it makes the human soldiers that much more insufferable, because you know dorks like Farguson aren’t going to matter, but they get tons of screen time anyway.    Farguson is like every episode of Dragon Ball GT condensed into a single character.  

Here, in the original manga, it’s pretty clear that the soldiers never mattered, because the only time you ever see them is when Jan Valentines’ ghoul army slaughters them all.    They only existed so Integra would have something to be in charge of, but the only ones who actually matter here are herself, Alucard, Seras, and Walter.    In this chapter, Walter practically admits as much, when he states that there were 96 staff members, and now we’re down to ten: Walter, Integra, and eight jabrones who weren’t at the base that day.    Well, maybe those eight guys will show up later and do something important?   Bullshit they will, they never get mentioned again.   The Gonzoverse might have been able to break some new ground by focusing on those human characters more, but what they actually did was half-assed, and it looks all the more futile when you know how unimportant they are to the original work.   Walter just hires a band of mercenaries to backfill all the vacant positions, and I’ll give you three guesses what happens to those guys.

Concerning “Millennium”, their mysterious new enemy, no one has any idea what they are.    A bunch of people try to research it, because we didn’t have Google in 1999, or at least not Google as we now know it, so if you wanted to know something cryptic you just had to rummage through a card catalog in a library or whatever.    But Integra just makes the logical leap that “Millennium” is a reference to the “Thousand Year Reich” dreamed of by Nazi Germany.   This seems like a stretch, but I think Integra’s reasoning is that this is the only “Millennium” reference that could possibly be worth Hellsing’s attention.

Later, Integra meets the Wild Geese, the merc group Walter hired, and explains their assignment even referencing the Bram Stoker novel.    So I guess Dracula is a real book in the Hellsing world, but it must be at least partially based on a true story, right?   The Geese don’t buy any of this, so Integra introduces them to Seras to prove that vampires are real.

They all laugh at Seras until she starts flicking their leader, Pip Bernadotte, with her fingers.    Then Alucard shows up, and that seems to be enough to convince them.

After this, Integra gets a letter from the Iscariot Organization, inviting her to a meeting with Enrico Maxwell at the Imperial War Museum.    The whole thing introduces Bishop Maxwell very effectively.   He tries to play this off as a peaceful, diplomatic conference, but he makes Integra wait, and she’s still sore about Anderson’s violation of their treaty back in Chapter 5-6.   Maxwell takes all this in stride, then replies that he could care less about the deaths of even two billion Protestants, so the two guys Anderson killed mean nothing to him.    He’s only here because the Pope ordered him to do this, and he calls Integra a “Protestant sow” for good measure.  

At this, Alucard comes out to stand up for Integra’s honor, and then Maxwell responds by bringing out Anderson, except Anderson has a berzerker rage thing going, so it kind of ruins Maxwell’s posturing.    For all his contempt, he really was ordered to London to talk to Integra, so he’d probably get in trouble with the Pope if Anderson starts a big superhero battle in a museum.

In Cross Fire, the unpublished manga that was sort of a precursor to Hellsing, Maxwell looked a lot like Sir Integra does now, so when Kouta Hirano brought him back for this arc, he slicked his hair back and removed his glasses.   On the other hand, Integra doesn’t look much like the early Integra anymore either.    By now, Hirano seems to have settled on her design, straightening her hair out and making her face longer and thinner.   Anyway, Maxwell’s brinkmanship has backfired, and now even he can’t stop Anderson, so what can be done?

Luckily, Seras is here to provide a distraction, as she leads a tour group of elderly Japanese tourists through the gallery.    For some reason this kills Anderson’s fighting mood completely, so he leaves.    Alucard also leaves, because he hates being up during the day.    Walter gives Seras a hearty thumbs up for defusing this tense situation.    Good job, Seras.    You’re doing amazing, sweetie.

All right, so what’s so blamed important that the Pope would send Maxwell to London?    Well, he knows about Millennium’s attack on Hellsing’s base, and he has some juicy deets on them.   After making Integra say “please”, he explains that “Millennium” was a Nazi military unit responsible for transferring resources and personnel for Nazi Germany.    They relocated a ton of these resources and personnel to South America for safe keeping.    Integra’s not too impressed with that, since “Nazis fleeing to South America after the war” isn’t exactly a shocking revelation.  

The twist here, though, is that Millennium was smuggling Nazi stuff to South America during World War II. 

Also, the Vatican helped Millennium do this?   I never understood this part of the story, but I think it gets explained later.   I mean, it explains how Maxwell would have this lead to share with Hellsing, but it raises more questions than answers.

  Volume 2 ends with another chapter of Cross Fire, starring Heinkel Wolfe and Yumiko Takagi.    In the first story, they saved hostages from Islamic terrorists.    This one is them recovering stolen church money from radical communists, which I guess could have been a thing in 1998?    It’s basically the same story, though, as they send Yumiko to infiltrate the bad guys, then they slaughter everyone in sight.    Mostly, I want to focus on the part at the end, where Maxwell, the leader of Iscariot, justifies the use of extreme hyper-violence in the name of the Catholic Church.   You sort of get the sense that the Iscariot Organization in Cross Fire was a concept in search of a villain.   the idea of two girl-assassins dressed as a nun and a priest might have had some traction, but Hirano really seems to have had trouble coming up with worthy enemies for them to fight.    But Hellsing brings vampires into the mix, which suits the Iscariots quite nicely.

Back to “Balance of Power”, the third part features Seras training with the Wild Geese in the middle of the night.   For some reason, Seras expects them to shoot targets from over 4km away.   She can do it, but only thanks to the vampiric senses Alucard showed her how to use.    It’s like she doesn’t realize that this is an ability she only has because she’s a vampire or something.   

Indoors, Alucard and Walter discuss the whole Nazi angle.    Al isn’t terribly surprised, because he only knows three who have ever used undead warriors for combat.

He knows #3 is legit, because he and Walter destroyed a Nazi research facility during the war.    Supposedly that contained all their work on the undead, but now that we know Millennium was smuggling important stuff from Nazi Germany to South America, it only makes sense that they’re the ones who devised the Valentines’ ghoul attack.    The bigger point of this scene is to reinforce that Walter used to be a big wheel in Hellsing, teaming up with Alucard to have Golden Age WWII adventures.   And now, Hellsing will be sending Alucard and Seras to South America to investigate this new threat.   

Here, Walter asks the big question: Why make Seras a vampire?   I’ll have more to say about this later, but I dig this scene because it works as an exposition scene, but there’s more to it than that.   Alucard’s only apparent motivations are over-the-top violence and doing his master’s bidding.   Helping Seras doesn’t seem to fit either of those, so it does indeed feel out-of-character.   You’d expect someone to ask this question, and by now there’s really only two people left who know Alucard well: Walter and Integra.   So yeah, let’s have Walter ask the question.    But later on, it becomes clear that the point is not the question itself, but the fact that Walter is the one asking it.  

For what it’s worth, Alucard doesn’t seem to know, or maybe he just doesn’t want to spell it out.   He keeps saying that it was her “choice”, except he had to make his own choice that night.    He could have just let her die, regardless of any requests she might have made.   Al remarks on her tremendous resilience on that night, since she was surrounded by death and hopelessness, but didn’t resign to her fate.    That impresses him, so I guess we can say that he chose her because he found her to be such an impressive specimen, in spite of some of her goofier behavior.    As it currently stands, Seras can’t even travel across rivers or oceans, a weakness for lesser vampires, but not a problem for Alucard himself.    He seems to think that’ll all be resolved once she finally drinks blood, and he expects that it’ll just be a matter of time before she does.    Ominous!

As far as transporting Seras to South America, Alucard figures the easiest thing to do is nail her shut in her own coffin.   The Wild Geese know a smuggling operation that can fly them to Brazil without any messy customs.   That works out, since they also have to transport Alucard’s coffin, and all the guns.

Integra asks why Alucard is dressed like this, and he says he can’t wear his usual stuff because he’d be too obvious to their enemies.    Also, he doesn’t need to spend the whole trip in his coffin, because sunlight and traveling over water doesn’t bother him, I guess?    I don’t really get the water thing.    If Seras can’t travel over running water, what difference does it make if she’s in her coffin or not?    I can accept that Alucard, who’s basically a super-vampire, would be immune to the whole water thing, but it becomes a plot point later on, so... aw, forget it   

Integra gives Alucard only one order: Search and Destroy, which seems kind of vague when you think about it.   Anyway, she’ll be saying this about a hundred times before the story is over, so we may as well appreciate the original.
