The evening of April 30th is known as Walpurgisnacht, or alternatively Hexennacht, meaning "Witch's Night."
On this night, Witches are reputed to hold a large celebration on the Brocken. Which is the highest peak of the Harz mountains in Germany. Blessings to those celebrating this evening!
Bonfires for warding against evil are popular during this time. 🔥

🎶📚🍵Fuel. I absolutely can’t function without music. I listen to it all day long, all the time (even when I sleep sometimes). It soothes me, helps me to focus, relax, work, walk, breathe (and lift 84 kg dumbbells). I always work in music. The thousands pages that I wrote, either for my books or for Une année en Magie were written in music. In German music, to be honest, cause I don’t understand the lyrics so they don’t distract me from what I write. Actually, 80% of my work was made listening to Rammstein but these days, I fell deeply in love with @revolverheld and just can’t stop listening to their music (I’ve put some samples in my latest stories as you may remember). So just saying. Listen to Revolverheld. Even if you can’t understand a word. It’s pure beauty, magic and energy (and of course, drink @anatae_matcha latte cause it’s the best damn matcha EVER) (still not sponsored, just addicted). #music #germanmusic #listentomusic #musicaddict #revolverheld #rammstein #vintage #study #studying #music #vintage #mythology #germanicmythology #germanmythology #jandevries #book #bookworm #booklover #bookaddict #musiclover #tea #teatime #matcha #matchalatte #matchalover #matchatea #read #reading #readingtime #history #luniversmentaldesgermains #diegeistigeweltdergermanen https://www.instagram.com/p/CjIDJoQq3eP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Happy Thorsday - Eoten, Giants - V2
Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters.  This week it’s another Eoten / Eotun / Ettin.
An old English version of Jotun / Jotunn / Jötunn, all meaning essentially ‘giant’. But likely deriving from the Proto Germanic word “etunaz” or “etan” meaning ‘to eat’. Having a large appetite. Possibly in their relation to how fire consumes.
They are nature and elemental sprits found in Norse, Germanic and Anglo Saxon mythology. They can be human to more elemental in nature such as living snow and frost, or living fire.
They are often depicted are large to immense, being the mountains themselves. But are variable in size with some of them being at a human scale, while others can change their shape. They can be kind, helpful, and intelligent, or malicious, cruel, and stupid. And anywhere in between.
They Live in Jotenheim / Jǫtunheimr primarily but also seem to be found in many of the other realms.
Here I’ve shown a version more water based version like the giant monster Grendel. Mainly because I hadn’t gotten the chance yet. I might for fun, do an extra version or four for the next couple of these.

Inktober day 18, misfit In German folklore, a #wolpertinger (also called #wolperdinger or #woiperdinger) is an animal said to inhabit the alpine forests of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It has a body comprising various animal parts — generally wings, antlers, tails and fangs, all attached to the body of a small mammal. The most widespread description portrays the Wolpertinger as having the head of a rabbit, the body of a squirrel, the antlers of a deer, and the wings and occasionally the legs of a pheasant. Stuffed "wolpertingers", composed of parts of actual stuffed animals, are often displayed in inns or sold to tourists as souvenirs in the animals' "native regions". The Deutsches Jagd- und Fischereimuseum in Munich, Germany features a permanent exhibit on the creature. It resembles other creatures from German folklore, such as the Rasselbock of the Thuringian Forest, or the Elwedritsche of the Palatinate region, which accounts describe as a chicken-like creature with antlers; additionally the American Jackalope as well as the Swedish Skvader somewhat resemble the wolpertinger. The Austrian counterpart of the wolpertinger is the raurakl. According to the folklore, Wolpertingers can be found in the forests of Bavaria. Variant regional spellings of the name include Wolperdinger, Woipertingers, and Volpertinger. They are part of a larger family of horned mammals that exist throughout the Germanic regions of Europe, such as the Austrian Raurackl, which is nearly identical to the German Wolpertinger.  #ink #inktober #watercolor #misfit #wolpertinger #jakalope #art #instaart #german #germanlegend #germanicmythology #magic #myth #mythologies #mythology #mythologicalcreatures #bestiary #bavaria #legend (at Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3wdSlHl0M2/?igshid=u730bpczkm24

Just a small annauncement
Since I have holydays and nothing better to do for the next few weeks, I have decided to write a block about my favourite fantasy author J.R.R. Tolkien. It will mainly be about Germanic and Old Norse Influences you can find in his books. Everything I write is based on research I did for a schoolproject this year.
I will write my short articles in english, a language I am still learning. I would appreciate tipps how I can improve my language. It would be great if you correct every mistake you may find concerning content and language.
Everything I write is from the sources you can find at the end of the post, and this whole thing is just for me to practice my language and have some fun. That means I realy don't care of someone reads this or not (but it would be realy cool if someone appreciates it).

A new golden find from Denmark. The figure sucking his thumb is almost certainly Sigurd, who is depicted the same way on the Sigurd stone in Eskilstuna, Sweden. While cooking the dragon’s heart he tastes it from his thumb and thereby receives the ability to understand the speech of birds. There is a parallel in the Irish legend of Finn Macumail who burns his thumb while cooking the salmon of knowledge and tasting it received divine knowledge #archeology #danishhistory #goldfind #germanicmythology #norsemythology #irishmythology #runes #sigurd #sigfried #finnmccool

🐕 Big deals! Splendid Viking necklace with Wodan amulet - Glass bead necklace for Vikings - Odin necklace - 2nd choice only at €59.90 on https://l.outfy.com/bIabj Hurry. A colorful Viking bead chain with a Wodan amulet I have here for you. I have attached the large Wodan pendant, worked on both sides, to a magnificent string of pearls. For this viking necklace I combined glass beads with ceramic and bone beads, as well as copper coloured metal beads. The bead chain has a lobster clasp. I only noticed while photographing that the stringing thread on one side looks a little bit out on top. This is probably because the pendant is not hanging between the two bone beads, but has slipped over them. Therefore I sell this necklace as a second choice. Measures and material: Wotan amulet approx. 3.2 x 4.5 cm / 1.3 x 1.8 ". total length ca. 76 cm / 29,9 " without pendant Zinc die casting with old copper sealing Depending on the region in the German territory, the North Germanic main god Odin was also known as Wodan (South Germanic) or Wotan (New High German). Grab this great unique piece before someone else does! This necklace is immediately ready for shipment and is just waiting to be bought by you. Either to wear it yourself, or to bring a lot of joy to a dear person! My brooch chains and necklaces are all unique pieces. No chain is like the other. So you can be sure that your necklace is a unique specimen that nobody else has! The necklace will be delivered in a nice cloth bag. Visit my Facebook page Belanas Schatzkiste and don't miss any more promotions and discounts!

Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Matrons Euthungae, the Protective Matrons of the Seubae
Happy Thorsday! - Here’s another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, Celtic) mythological characters. This week it’s the Matrons Euthungae  / Matronae Euthungae / Matribus Suebis Euthungabus
Also called the Seubian Matrons, or Matres Suebae, and The Matrons of  Sidinae. Three guardian ancestral protective Matron (Mothers) and Goddesses, found mentioned in and around Euthungae, Collogne, and Deutz Germany. Likely from the Luthungi tribe of the Suebians.
Some feel that they are related to the Reuthungabus tribe. And the  Euthungabus is merely a dropping of the letter on inscriptions. As Euthungiis is another spelling of Luthungi.
