The Container Pot And Garden Centres
How the #containerpot gave rise to the British #gardencentre @HTAnews
Nurseries were not confined to the London area. In his 1839 guide to London nurseries, James Mangles mentions eight in the south and west of England that specialised in varieties of exotic plant and were “celebrated for particular classes of plant”. Other noted dealers of exotic flora at the time included Backhouse of York, Dickson of Edinburgh, and Messrs Veitch of Exeter. As well as supplying…

best prank my nan ever pulled was getting my granddad a pack of 100 cigarettes (if you've never smoked, you can buy 100 packs which is 5 packets of 20 encased in a plastic wrap, or a box)
she very carefully unstuck the outer covering and slid out all the packets
then she equally carefully undid the individual plastic wraps on the packets from the bottom (again, if you've never smoked, there is one of those little pull tabs at the top to take the top part off, but the bottom is folded over and stuck)
doing this without ripping the plastic is very difficult
she slid out all of the packets from their plastic gowns
she very carefully opened each box so as to not rip or damage it
she carefully folded back the inner paper
she removed every single cigarette
in one box, she replaced the contents with candy cigarettes
and then, painstakingly, she slid each box back into its plastic wrap
re-folded and stuck the plastic at the bottom
put them back in the outer plastic, with the candy cigarette one at the bottom (so as to be last) and restuck that
and gave the cigrarettes to my granddad

This is one of the largest hanging baskets I've ever seen. Of course, the landlord can afford it - welcome to Vancouver's financial district. When the first tower (on the right) opened on Burrard Street in 1967, at 22 stories, it dominated the downtown skyline. Now it's just another boring, 'ultra-modern office block', amongst a crowd of later arrivals. However, this building does have one redeeming feature - this beautiful hanging basket out front. I think it's a floral masterpiece!

so many bsd characters seem to have a lot of their characterisation and experiences centering around their ability, but sigma seems mostly apathetic to his own ability - he doesnt list it as his strength in that one character profile that came out recently , he just says hes a hard worker and mostly useless at everything else . and hes always describing himself as pretty ordinary. which really is the exact opposite of how pretty much everyone else sees him as just the thing that comes along with his ability

The Rise Of The Garden Centre
How the container pot transformed British #gardening #gardencentres #horticulture @Countrylifemag https://www.countrylife.co.uk/gardens/curious-questions-which-came-first-the-flower-pot-or-the-garden-centre-246042
In 2021 UK households spent around £7.6 billion on plants, flowers, and other garden goods, estimate Statista, up from £6.2 billion the previous year. The grateful recipients of the gardeners’ largesse are the 1,800 or so nurseries and garden centres, which, the Horticultural Trades Association claim, are visited by over two-thirds of British adults at least once a year. How did the container pot…

Did you know that water harvesting is a prevention method for both floods and drought?
Using the free power of gravity along with vegetation, Passive water harvesting is creating a living sponge to capture store and use rainwater to build a resilient, vibrant garden for both wet and dry weather.
Dr Cally Brennan, founder of Canberra Permaculture Design and Education, has practised permaculture and water harvesting for over 10 years.
In this short film, Cally will give you a toolbox of skills from preparation to storage and how to easily (and sustainably) water your garden.
