You can grow tanks, rather than buy them, and they'll have a lot more water-harvesting capacity.
This video is about how living sponges (rain gardens) have far greater capacity than non-living manufactured water tanks, in that they utilize and infiltrate water during and immediately after rains to quickly make more room or capacity for the next rain - even if that rain comes just a few hours after the first rain.
Thus rain gardens (in this case, a water-harvesting, traffic-calming chicane or pull out) typically have much more potential for flood-control, groundwater-recharge, bioremediation (natural filtration of toxins), and heat-island abatement (due to the shading/cooling vegetation they grow and the cooling effect of the water transpiring through these "living pumps").
This works in any climate, but the vegetation changes as you change bioregions. The easiest path to success is to use plants native or indigenous to your area and site's microclimate. Go further, and select native plants that also produce food, medicine, craft/building materials, etc so you grow living pantries, pharmacies, craft suppliers, etc.
At minimum, make sure your tanks overflow to rain gardens, so that overflow is used as a resource. And place those rain gardens and their vegetation where you most need that vegetation, such as trees on the east and west sides of buildings to shade out the morning and afternoon summer sun for free, passive cooling.
The ideal, is that once this rain garden vegetation has become established the only irrigation water it will require is the freely harvested on-site water, so no importing/extracting of groundwater, municipal water, or other is needed. This way we can infiltrate more water into the living system than we take out - thereby enabling the recharge of groundwater, springs, and rivers; instead of their depletion and dehydration.

Types of water and their uses
A lot of witches use different types of water in their practices. Here are a few. And remember intention is very important.
Sun water - vitality, happiness, strength, positivity
Sun water is made by cleansing your preferred jar in your preferred method, filling it with water, and putting the jar out into the sun for however long you would like.
River water - moving on, changing, letting go, cleansing
River water is made by collecting water from a river in a jar that has been cleansed. (Boil before consumption.)
Rain water - growth, change, cleansing, protection
Put a preferred jar that has been cleansed out in the rain.
Dew water - beauty, glamours, love, fertility, calmness
Dew water is made by collecting dew in a cleansed jar. (Boil before consumption)
War water - used for hexes, curses, bad luck, general negativity
War water can be tailored to what you have on hand. You just want to put nasty shit in there or things like rusty nails, dead bugs, moldy things, vinegar. Do not consume this at all.
I hope this information helps some people. You can always use methods that work for you. Happy witching my friends !!!

"Based on the latest U.S. guidelines for PFOA in drinking water, rainwater everywhere would be judged unsafe to drink. Although in the industrial world we don't often drink rainwater, many people around the world expect it to be safe to drink and it supplies many of our drinking water sources," Cousins continue.
The Stockholm University team have conducted laboratory and field work on the atmospheric presence and transport of PFAS for the past decade. They have noted that the levels of some harmful PFAS in the atmosphere are not declining notably despite their phase out by the major manufacturer, 3M, already two decades ago. PFAS are known to be highly persistent, but their continued presence in the atmosphere is also due to their properties and natural processes that continually cycle PFAS back to the atmosphere from the surface environment. One important natural cycling process for PFAS is the transport from seawater to marine air by sea spray aerosols, which is another active research area for the Stockholm University team.
[...]
"So now, due to the global spread of PFAS, environmental media everywhere will exceed environmental quality guidelines designed to protect human health and we can do very little to reduce the PFAS contamination. In other words, it makes sense to define a planetary boundary specifically for PFAS and, as we conclude in the paper, this boundary has now been exceeded," said Scheringer.

Water they thinking?
Water they thinking?
Besides cutting off the water to Gaza, and bombing the infrastructure, the water pump facilities, Israel claims that Palestinians have no water rights, that the water, including rain belongs to Israel. Meaning it is illegal, under Israel occupation for Palestinians to even collect rainwater.
Palestinians are forbidden from gathering rainwater.
Source: a UN report: ‘according to Israeli military orders in effect in the area, rain is the property of the Israeli authorities and thus Palestinians are forbidden from gathering rain water for domestic or agricultural needs.’
As well as prohibiting nearly all construction of wells necessary for Palestinians to secure additional quantities of water to support population growth and socio-economic development, such policies have denied communities access to water and sanitation facilities, including water, toilets, sewage networks and cisterns for rainwater harvesting.’

I’m collecting rainwater for reasons. Can some one tell me if it has to come directly from the sky or if it can hit a metal overhanging. I would leave a bowl on the ground but if you do that in an apartment complex some one will steal your bowl.

If you’ve seen the headlines about rainwater being unsafe to drink worldwide, because of the presence of dangerous chemicals called PFAS - well, scientists have found a straightforward, affordable way to disintegrate them.

Did you know that water harvesting is a prevention method for both floods and drought?
Using the free power of gravity along with vegetation, Passive water harvesting is creating a living sponge to capture store and use rainwater to build a resilient, vibrant garden for both wet and dry weather.
Dr Cally Brennan, founder of Canberra Permaculture Design and Education, has practised permaculture and water harvesting for over 10 years.
In this short film, Cally will give you a toolbox of skills from preparation to storage and how to easily (and sustainably) water your garden.
