Gacha gamers!!!!!!
Please rethink the hobby if you haven't, I played for free for a few years before I started spending. Now I have a gambling addiction I'm trying to fight.
It seems harmless but I think the years of playing for free (gambling for good or cool characters) wired my brain to where I expect and want to get that rush of the unknown and the possibility to get what I wanted.
Some people can moderate themselves or never spend anything but it's a billion dollar industry, at least, and it preys on people with fake deals and predatory practices.
Genshin, DBZ Dokkan battle, 7 deadly sins grand cross, fate grand order, bleach brave souls and Ni no kuni are all games I've spent hundreds, if not thousands on.
And it always started with "one time only great value deals" that were over the price of a full console game!
I wanted to play games without needing a console. Some of my favorite franchises like Dragon Ball Z have games on mobile so I wanted to be in the fandom. I wanted to game without much hassle.
But none of that is worth it. I've lost so much and so easily too.
Please seek help if you think you or someone you care about has a gambling problem.

Today I’m snowed in, so in my boredom I searched for a film to watch. I stumbled upon “Blackbeard’s Ghost” a 1968 film from Disney. The blurb says it all, “A track coach inherits the mischievous ghost of famed pirate Blackbeard.”
The films starts off with a synopsis of the story of Edward Teach, ending said synopsis with a question, is he really gone? Setting a tone immediately. Then it cuts to the main character, one Steve Walker, a track coach at Godolphin college in North Carolina—where the Queen Anne’s revenge sank.
Eventually Walker arrives at his hotel and after an auction sequence he ends up with a warming pan which was owned by Blackbeard’s wife who was a witch. Eventually he accidentally summons the ghost of Blackbeard.
Now we’re into the meat of the movie. The film’s comedy is great, the slapstick humor is incredible when only one character can see the one committing the violent deeds.
Of course since only the main character can see Blackbeard there’s also great exchanges between Steve and others. The comedic value of Blackbeard cannot be understated.
10/10

Often called a hidden addiction, problem gambling does not leave its mark on the body like other compulsion disorders, such as alcohol or drug abuse. That is why it can be harder to detect - and easier to conceal. This year, a study in the Scientific Reports journal showed about twice the level of problem gambling among top-level sportspeople in Ireland's Gaelic Athletic Association compared with their demographic in the general population. It followed a 2016 Europe-wide study that showed a significantly increased level of gambling problems among professional athletes.

More proof. Pissy is as pissy does. The thread is full of childish insults, the usual tool of high tech trolls. The #NFL and #siliconvalley really fucked up, trying to use A list actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, in their attempts to gaslight the American public. Using Christ, using religion, as a joke and a prop, is the epitome of being anti-Christian.

Saw a post about gambling addictions and gacha games (like Genshin Impact), and I had a lot of add-ons so I made my own post!
Here’s some things to keep in mind when you’re pulling in Genshin:
—————
1. You don’t need to own the character to enjoy them
Tell me why you love this character. Are they interesting? Is their design cool, is their move set new and exciting?
I’m glad you enjoy them! But all these things can be enjoyed without ever owning the character. Read them, write them, draw them, watch them. Enjoy your favorites without ever spending a dime!
The only thing you’d be getting for yourself is an in-game model, and if you really wanna see that, you can always co-op. One of my favorite characters has been fangirled over for a whole year, and I still don’t have them. And that’s fine by me, cause there’s other content.
2. A 5-star costs 90 wishes
Instead of thinking that pulls are based on luck, think of it as a 5-star costing 90 wishes, with the ocasional bonus. It’s a fixed cost with an ocasional reward. No gambling involved when you apply that mindset.
3. 10 pulls make the gambling worse
DO NOT DO 10-PULLS REGULARLY.
I technically have nothing to back me up on this. But it’s something I’ve noticed, and something I’ve experienced.
10 pulls are designed to upset you. If you’re spending a large amount of fates at once, your brain wants to be rewarded. But it will probably turn purple. Instead of being happy, you’ll know it’s guaranteed, and you will see it with disappointment. Or, it will turn gold, and you’ll get a standard character or weapon, and you’ll be even more upset.
In addition, the structure of the pulls means you have to wade through lots of 3 and 4 stars before you ever even see who you got. Anticipation is carefully cultivated, and there’s a 50% chance of being let down hard.
There is only one way to be “rewarded” for a 10 pull, and it’s the most unlikely, expensive outcome. It encourages sunk-cost fallacy and real life spending.
—————
Mindfulness is crucial to avoiding the effects of gacha games, but I don’t look down on the people who fall into it. It’s designed to exploit the human brain. YouTubers, who ultimately use the game as a career investment, make whaling and spending look normal. The jokes in the community make it look normal. It’s hard to look at your favorite media and go “This is actively trying to take advantage of me.”
But please, be careful out there. Even if you do end up spending money on gacha, never EVER let yourself spend more than $20 in one place. Even that’s a little much for me personally, and that should be a HARD RULE. No if’s and’s or but’s.
You deserve to be happy when you play a game you love. Not distressed by gambling losses.

Would you rather be a coin dropped, laid flat and anonymized by the moving mirror of a coin pusher machine or an image on a slot machine panel that spins, spins, stops in gloom or in view of the lone, glowed ghost of a person?
