Controversial opinion perhaps but Ken in the Barbie Movie was a fucking Nice Guy™️ and I don't give a shit about him at best and actively hate him at worst.

"Waaah he's so sad his life is defined by Barbie!!!" I guess? But also Barbie literally didn't give a shit what he did. That's the whole point. Ken could have gone to do ANYTHING at ANY TIME. The fact that he was so obsessed with Barbie that he could "only have a good day when she looked at him" or whatever the line was was a KEN problem, not a Barbie problem.

But the issue is that, like every Nice Guy™️, he MAKES it Barbie's problem. How? By badgering her into letting him go to the Real World with her because he's insecure. By stealing her house. By brainwashing all the other Barbies to be chaste bangmaids for the Kens (when Kens were NEVER treated even HALF as terribly in Barbieland). By making it clear he's doing ALL of this because she's not into him the way he's into her.

"Every night is guy's night. How does that feel? Hurts, doesn't it?"

Ken / the movie try to make it seem like it's an equivalent situation, but it's not! Because Ken was upset because he's into Barbie, but she's not into him. But Barbie is upset because he STOLE HER HOUSE AND PUT ALL THE OTHER BARBIES INTO DEMEANING SERVITUDE. Hello??? It's a completely disproportionate response on Ken's part and fits 100% with typical Nice Guy™️ bullshit: Ken was so nice and attentive to Barbie, but Barbie wasn't interested, so Ken reacted with disproportionate anger and violence.

Barbie comforting Ken at the end when he throws his little tantrum and goes to cry just made me sick, honestly. Should Barbie have been less insensitive turning him down before? I guess. But it in no way excuses what he did and frankly Barbie having to comfort him (and him STILL trying to kiss her against her will MULTIPLE TIMES because as we all know, give a Nice Guy™️ an inch and they will take a mile) reinforces the idea that she bore responsibility for his shitty behavior, which fucking sucks.

"Ken is such a himbo!" "Ken stole the show!" "Ryan Gosling's Kenergy is the best!" I'm so sick of these takes. First off, it's classic internet to center the sole male character / actor and obsess over them in a female-driven movie. But second, Ken was NOT a himbo. Himbos respect and love women. Ken was a Nice Guy™️, and he fucking sucked.
