This piece been outside my studio for several years, and a couple of years ago was used by a pair of Carolina Wrens which come every year and have nested in my ladder hanging on the outside of the studio several times. I could not use the ladder for several years each Spring, so I had decided to make a couple of wren-sized birdhouses which I placed near the studio so they would have another housing option other than my ladder. The birdhouse roof was damaged after a fallen tree limb fell on it knocking it onto the ground. I repaired the birdhouse roof (see the copper ‘stitched’ detail image above). After the repair the birdhouse was used by wrens a couple of years ago, and — as I have an offer to purchase this piece — I finally took it down and opened it up so I could clean it out for the new (human) owner. I discovered an intact unhatched egg in the nest. I carefully removed the nest and the egg and cleaned the house out, making a new base for displaying the house the new home (a log cabin in the mountains of North Georgia). The wren’s egg became a part of the new sculpture, resting atop the bookshelf inside. The new owner will have the nest which I saved. All the books on the shelf represent significant books on my bookshelves, though they are not accurate facsimiles . . .
Netted jellyfish :) little clumsy on the execution but I do think the visions there and I ALSO think it would be a lot of fun in like a scene or something. Get my hands on a shoebox and go wild kinda thing
Sharing some older work from the archive today. These to-scale body shaped planters are titled The Lovers Series 2019 and are made in the image of my wife and I. The womans body on the left: Raku clay, underglaze, clear glaze, and acrylic paint. The mans body on the right: Red clay, underglaze, acrylic paint. Displayed in the Minneapolis College Spring 2019 Gallery and Sota Pop 2019 Show.
