our aim was to get 132 characters narrowed down to 64, we narrowed them down to 67, because of an amazing three polls where the difference was made by literally a single vote, and i think as far as preliminaries go, that's not preference that's chance (one vote may make the difference when it comes to the final rounds, bc then it's exciting, but here that's a tie)

Yeah, Della and Donald would definitely be about Ed and Al’s age for this (yeah, everyone’s ages would be kinda… messed up here, a bit.)

I enjoy the idea of Goldie being basically Madame Christmas, without having raised Scrooge (yet still remaining a confidant of sorts) well because it does tie in to her past as a dance hall girl, which is good

I think that the people like Fenton, Gryo, Launchpad, and Quackfaster would probably take the places of Mustang’s men and everything, ‘cuz that works best

The moonlanders would definitely take the place of the Ishvalans in this story, though for that then Lunaris would be like, retconned to be a bird or something, ‘cuz he works quite well as Bradley

I think a good place for Magica would actually be as the homunculus Pride. Because like you said, it would work quite well to have Lena be left over as a vestige after she dies. The only thing that would change is that Pride would be an adult instead of Wrath’s kid.

I think Isabella Finch could actually work as Father. Because like, if Hortense is replacing Hoenhiem, then it kinda makes sense.

Jim Starling for Envy works pretty well, actually. Gladstone might work a bit better, but he’s not a villain, so that’s a no go. But Jim actually works quite well, because of the whole enviousness over Drake and everything.

Waddlemeyer for Marcoh works well enough, though I would definitely place Von Drake in the role of Grumman

I don’t really know who would play Mei, but I do feel like Kit could work, possibly.

Concept art dump for @korkorali ‘s Ducktales 2017-Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood AU!

Featuring the Donald and Della Duck as the Elric brothers- though at the time I drew these, who was Ed and who was Al was undecided. Scrooge is Colonel Roy Mustang, Beakley is Hawkeye, Penumbra is Scar, Hortense is Hohenheim, and Quackmore is Trisha (I hc the convo above taking place maybe a couple of weeks or months before he inevitably dies to Kick Off the Plot, so RIP in advance). Grandma Elvira Duck is Pinako, and Daisy is Winry. Since the twins are Elvira’s grandchildren, Winry!Daisy isn’t related to her in this AU. She’s prob her automail apprentice; maybe Daisy boards in a spare room, maybe she commutes from her house, idk.

Coming up with these was a ton of fun. Mickey as Ling Yao was one of my suggestions; aside from the Mouse Empire meta jokes, mad scientists mess with him in a lot of his old shorts. Runaway Brain was one of my favourites as a kid.

Hey! A while ago I read your post about wanting to find another plot driven cartoon to love, and I wanted to ask... have you checked out infinity train? It is a wonderfully animated anthology with great world building and a lot of mystery. But the BEST thing about this show are its characters, they are so well written, with little quirks that make them feel human, and their journeys are so goooooood! Sorry for the spam, but I think it deserves it! (Also it's kinda of in a limbo and we're trying to resurrect it)

If you want to watch it don't read anything about it, every information is a spoiler basically

thank you!! i know a teeny tiny bit about infinity train and some of the characters / dynamics?? jess and lake (?) are friends. simon has a refreshing arc in terms of the show Committing to a narrative choice, which i’m very excited about. “infinity train” has definitely been on my list of shows for a lil while now!

Pitch Me your thing!

HELLO HELLO MY SUNBEAMS. For most every category, there was an impressive turn-out for pitches, so I thought we’d utilize the weirdness of this year’s GIFTENING to give something new a try. The popular vote winner for each category will happen on the first day, but on the second, the winner will be chosen from YOUR PITCHES. Mostly those pitches will be to me. The exception is in Miscellaneous, where you’ll be pitching to my family, because what I want to do and what is most entertaining isn’t necessarily the same thing.

So! How will we do this thing? GLAD YOU ASKED. I’ll link you to a form in a minute with space for one pitch. Once you fill it out, you’ll be asked if you want to do another. There’s no limit to the number of pitches you can send in! But remember that if you submit multiple entries for the same category, you’ll basically be competing against yourself.

NOW WE’VE GOT SOME RULES FOR DOING THIS (which I mostly stole from Holligay, because I have no creativity this year). Please read them carefully! I’ll toss pitches that break any of these, and I’d rather your hard work not go to waste.

Pitch Me is open for your submissions from RIGHT NOW (22 December) through the very last day of this hellyear (31 December) at 11:59pm MT.

The thing you pitch must have come from what was nominated for THE GIFTENING 2020. (Full list of those nominations in every category below the cut on this post.)

Entries must be unsigned! I’m looking to chose based on the pitch alone, regardless of who submitted it.

Future Liveblogs Poll Results

The poll for the replacement for Gravity Falls is over, thank you all for submitting your suggestions!

With 78 submissions and 211 show suggestions, there weren’t as many responses as I’d have liked but there are enough that it doesn’t feel like I’m choosing based on what only a couple of people want.

1st place

“Over the Garden Wall” _but_ I’m skipping this one until Halloween. I actually wanted to watch it this year but I forgot about it until it was too late. Whoops.

2nd place and the replacement for Gravity Falls:

“She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” I know nothing about this show other than having seen some fanart with the protagonist and her rival(?) on twitter and some talk about being really good so I’m curious about where it goes.

It’s pretty long already though so I _may_ take a break in between seasons to do something else. If everything goes well (three episodes left of Gravity Falls!) I should be starting this liveblog in January.

3rd and the replacement for RWBY mondays after V7 is over:

“Steven Universe Future”

I’m a bit surprised by this one, I didn’t expect anyone to be interested in a liveblog of only SUF (since I’ve already watched the original show) but I love SU and this is the perfect excuse to gush over it so yeah awesome.

Since it’s supposed to be a shorter “season” it’s a good fit to replace RWBY. Hopefully by February there’ll be enough episodes released so I don’t run out too soon. But after summer is over (for me) chances are my posting schedule is going to go to hell again so who knows, maybe I’ll out-hiatus the hiatus king.

Special mentions

A lot of people suggested Full Metal Alchemist and My Hero Academia but sadly I’ve already watched them. Also, I’m pretty sure I’d die before I finish liveblogging a long-running shonen show but thank you for your optimism.

Someone submitted Ducktales multiple times but I’ve already watched maybe half of the first season. And I’m not sure how interesting a liveblog would be since what I’ve seen is even more episodic than Gravity Falls.

The Dragon Prince got a lot of votes (and it’s also on my list of shows I want to watch) so if She-Ra ends up being a bad fit for this liveblog it’s the most probable fallback.
