The CDC is trying to limit the new COVID booster to only people 75+, pregnant people, and the immunocompromised.
We have two days (as of September 6th, 2023) to let them know this isn't acceptable.
(since there is some lack of visual comprehension in the comments, each picture has the link to the tweet just under the picture)
Under this first tweet is the link directly to the article Laurie put in her tweet and is quoting.

For those of you getting mad at me in the comments and reblogs: saying vaccination is only recommended for groups IS a way to try to prevent people from getting vaccinated because EVERYONE NEEDS THE VACCINE! Everyone needs to know they should get the vaccine!
It's not that hard to figure that out.
Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding did the original reporting on this. I put a link to his thread in one of the reblogs, and I'm not going to be your Google beyond saying that. Go to his Twitter. Go check out Friesein's tweet thread.

fuck the cdc. 2,000 people are dying per week in the U.S. of covid (likely much more, when accounting for heart problems and other sudden deaths due to previous covid infections). the new guidlines will bring even more death. the cdc doesn't care about disabled & immunocompromised people. the cdc is a political organization. the cdc kills. this is social murder.
if you call yourself an advocate for disability justice and you aren't masking, you need to change your behavior *now*. people are dying of covid. people will keep dying of covid. protect yourself and others, especially disabled & immunocompromised people. MASK UP.
FUCK THE CDC.

Guess who's shitty unmasked coworkers who keep coming in sick gave covid to again lol???? it's me. FML. I had covid in November 2023. I am fully vaccinated and boosted. I wear an N95 at work. But my boss and one of my coworkers keep coming in super sick unmasked, and my mask helps mitigate harm but like. an 8 hour day in an office with two very contagious people who never mask like. Even though I take all my breaks outside, my mask doesn't make me fucking invincible. So yeah, Covid twice in 4 months.
My dad is terminally ill and now I have to fucking avoid him again because I don't want to give him fucking covid. My work has no covid leave at all and I'm already out of sick time, so I am telling them I will work remotely until I test negative. I would prefer to just take fucking sick time but obviously I can't because I don't have it. Don't even know how they will take me asking to work remote to be honest. I had previously politely asked them to please consider masking or working remotely if they were sick and my boss scoffed in my face and told me that they didn't come in sick. And then they continued to come in unmasked, hacking and coughing and blowing their noses. And now I have covid. Again. 💀

fist fighting the CDC for preferring disabled people die rather then tell the nondisabled population to wear a mask

The new cdc guidelines just reaffirms to me how little my life is valued. Like just let me die I guess.
People wonder why things keep getting worse, while at the same time turning a blind eye to how our lives are being treated as disposable.

One good thing about COVID is that I was supposed to go in for my 3 month pain management appointment today but I have COVID so I get to do a virtual appointment!

Headache etc combining with an unexpectedly hot day to make me have to be still and do nothing, which I do not do well, and anyway, decided to look up "What to do if you think you have monkeypox?" on the CDC website.
I know the CDC are garbage, but this is the most vague like... unhelpful statements... (and it's only in English and it's not helpful English. )
Telling people who thnk they have monkeypox who are looking up what to do that it's related to smallpox... does not help them? ? They might already have it. Bit late for a smallpox vaccine.
It says "people usually get better within 2-4 weeks without treatment" and "some get anitvirals" and "healing means the scabs falling off" and doesn't say anything about... the range in severity of pain, what pain relievers to use, if any, what to do to help ease the itching, when it is bad enough to go to the doctor, etc.
ALSO it tells you how to disinfect your house and clothes, except not really. It just says to use a cleaner approved for that (EXAMPLES? LINKS? nah.) and to try to do contaminated laundry in hot water. (How hot? no answers) and "if you don't have in-home laundry, talk to local health agencies." ....the fuck does that mean?? Who even are they supposed to talk to about their laundry???
Fucking hell. They really are so fucking useless and out of touch with what people need to know.

Feeling a bit more human today. Have a couple of asks and a submission in my inbox I'm going to attempt to get to today. My last day in hard quarantine. Washed my sheets, pillows, and blankets. Then wiped down everything in my bedroom and bathroom with disinfecting wipes. That wore me out and I will probably be in bed the rest of the day now...but it does feel nice having things fresh and clean in here. Just wish it were warmer weather and I'd have my window open, let in some fresh air.
Still don't see how I am supposed to go back to work tomorrow (thank God I have a desk job). But because the dumb CDC loosened up on the covid guidelines, I go back tomorrow. Just have to mask up and pretty much stay at my desk. Though I am pretty sure my one boss will take one look at me and hear me speak and tell me to take my ass home (he's your stereotypical grumpy old man with a heart of gold who actually really cares). At least it's only three days I guess then I won't be back at work till Tuesday.

I have not done of these in a minute. But way less people are masks at my job. People (costumers and workers) are always coming in sick as shit. It’s also so fun /s when people are like “oh I’m quarantining right now but I got bored”. I’m going to screaming this to the end of the time. Because this shit is not going to get better because protecting people (including sick pay) hurts the economy or whatever capitalist drivel. And like in general I am fighting the cdc one day. And it’s funny because the cdc directed recently got covid and was out 18 days. And not even like tweeting/working at home to boost morale or whatever. Like radio silence for 18 days. But the rest of us at best get 5 fucking days. When people still test positive on day 6.

"If a pig catches both a human influenza A virus and an avian influenza A virus at the same time, it can spark a process known as viral reassortment — a genetic exchange in which flu viruses swap gene segments." "Those swaps can introduce dramatic changes, producing a new virus with certain properties of a non-human strain coupled with the capacity to infect and spread between people." "The death rate in humans may be upwards of 50 per cent, World Health Organization data suggests, though it's possible that milder infections are getting missed, skewing the case fatality ratio. Still, in a population that's never been exposed, the global impacts could be dire." "More human cases could also be happening under the radar among farm workers who've moved to the U.S. from abroad, don't speak English as their first language, and may be hesitant to seek medical help, he added." "So I think there's probably underreporting on both sides," Armstrong said." "If [H5N1] gets into a population where there's constantly animals going in and out … it might not ever leave."
I've been watching this develop for the past several days, and apart from being terrified most people will not take this seriously (I've seen a handful of people already shout conspiracy on social media and it's alarming to see, as always). What I wanted to point out is that pandemics are going to continue to be our 'normal.' I watched a great video on YouTube a while ago (I believe it was by Vice?) that touched base on how this is going to become our new reality because of multiple factors (such as our proximity to animals, and environments/etc). It was when Covid hit and they did a piece debunking some of the misinformation floating on the internet. If I can find it I will post it here because it was informative and relevant to pretty much any world crisis we will see around any virus that spreads among a human population.
This post isn't trying to fear monger anyone, I just hope more people are aware of what is happening because this is important to talk about. There are already cases (of cows getting this bird flu) in the US, and I won't be surprised if there will be instances in more countries around the world. As usual, keep washing your hands/keeping good hygiene practices, masking up (and if you aren't I hope you consider it), and taking precautions if you do happen to visit/work or go near a pig or poultry farm too:
I'll keep track of this here of course, but please stay informed folks. And also FU to any governments who will try to minimize this or try to diminish the severity until it's too late and community spread happens like Covid because their actions are influenced by capitalistic interests.
Update (April 7th, 2024, 9:32pm EST): to anyone wondering where some of the source information originates from -here is a link to the CDC. They are tracking documented avian virus outbreaks in the US and the public can access it here:
