The message I'd like to send is, look, I think, in a certain way, not to say that INDYCAR's saved me, I think it's restarted me. You know, it was a tough time after the Formula 1 stuff. You build up so much hope for, like, 2 years, just to keep getting turned down for various reasons or whatever, and it's nice to find a new calling and a new life and a lot more potential, in something where everyone drops that ego and the protective bubble and people are genuinely friendly to you, not because of what you're doing, but because of who you are. So I appreciate everyone, I appreciate the people close to me, I appreciate the drivers, and I appreciate the fans a lot for coming and supporting and every race, you know, giving it their all to make us feel good.

Callum has gotten so many death threats from Canapino/Argentinian fans he's had to go private on twitter yet the best 'statement' Juncos Hollinger can come up with is 'stop saying negative comments' 24 hours too late. Fucking shameful.

ngl that JHR statement is really not it. Like it's better than nothing but where's the condemning of the hate and abuse Callum is actually getting instead of just asking people to stop???? Cate has tweeted to say she's now scared of going to Argentina it's so bad but they've decided that statement is enough???

After only 7 laps in practice today, Callum is having chassis change. Why has this taken so long?
I don’t wanna start something, but it’s like they are purposely trying to fuck him over. Get him out!
Chip Ganassi & Andretti I am begging you. Get my boy a seat for 2024!

For me it's partially a time issue because F1 already takes up so much of my time. And the other thing is that I'm really into the engineering side of F1 and that side is much less a thing in IndyCar.
In F1 you have all the different car concepts the different rearwings and all the cars have different things that they are good at. And I enjoy reading about all of those things but also seeing how the impact the racing.
Like Bahrain this year where the insane RB topspeed allowed Verstappen to attack on the main straight but only on the main straight and the insane Ferrari traction meant that Leclerc could overtake into turn three.
So just having these different car concepts compete is super interesting to me.
Yeah, IndyCar has kind of backed themselves into a corner here, haven't they?
They tout that it's one of the most competitive racing series however they do hope that the face fans don't notice that it's because the cars are essentially spec cars. And that's not to say that there isn't disparity because there is with the setups but there isn't much innovation going on like you mentioned.
There are pros to this for IndyCar though and honestly probably why they were able to survive the Split and the reunification when things were Not Great. Pros are that it's cheaper and that it's easier for a new team to come in and start to establish themselves (see Juncos Hollinger this season). It has produced some wonderful racing and really close championship battles that have been a joy to watch.
But I think we're starting to see cons too. The chassis that IndyCar uses is over 10 years old iirc. That is absurd to me. There are also only so many engine leases that are available which are definitely starting to hinder the growth of the sports (because they're basically maxed out already) and there isn't a third OEM that is willing to join in.
And the biggest con is that we are missing out on the innovation which is what makes motorsport so fucking great. And IndyCar had that innovation, particularly in the Indy 500. From the first Indy 500 with Ray Harroun using a rearview mirror instead of a riding mechanic to Jules Goux's twin overhead cam and beyond, innovation has always been in Indianapolis (well, besides the last 25 years).
So yeah, I definitely can understand why that wouldn't interest you. I hope maybe sometime in the near future, IndyCar will start to allow innovation back into the sport.

CALLUM ILOTT is congratulated by his team for making it through to the Fast 6 and finishing P2 in qualifying, only 2 hundredths off all-time best INDYCAR qualifier Will Power, meaning that he will start the Firestone GP of Monterey on the front row
