FLEKKERØY is named for the southern Norwegian island from which she originally operated. She’s shown here in 1940 in an image taken from the deck of a Swedish freighter.

FLEKKERØY Facts

FLEKKERØY is a double-ended pilot cutter built in 1936 in Høllen, Norway. Her keel, stem, and sternpost are of white oak. Her 5″ (sided) frame futtocks are of Norwegian pine, which makes each double-sawn frame 10″ wide; they are spaced about 20″ on center. The planking is 2″ white oak fastened with trunnels measuring 1¼" in diameter. The trunnels have conical heads, go all the way through the frames, and are split and wedged on the inside. The deckbeams are of roughly 6″ × 6″ pine and rest on 3″ × 8�� sheer clamps, also of pine. The deck planking is 2″ pine. The deckhouse, stanchions, covering boards, and caprail are of white oak.

The boat measures 40′8″ on deck, and is about 57' overall if you count the spars. Her beam is 15′2″ and draft is 6'. Her volume is 17.04 GRT, and she displaces 55,000 lbs. She is rigged as a gaff cutter with a mast measuring 53′ from the waterline, and a retractable bowsprit. Her sail area of 1,345 sq ft is divided into four sails: a mainsail of 610 sq ft, a staysail of 245 sq ft, a jib of 335 sq ft, and a topsail 155 sq ft. We also have two smaller jibs and one bigger one.

For no-wind conditions, she is equipped with a British Leyland 113-hp six-cylinder diesel engine, with a 4:1 PRM gearbox and a 32″ Variprop feathering propeller. She has no outside ballast, so ballast consists of 9,000 lbs of lead ingots placed in the bilges. The rudder is of white oak and is hung outside on the sternpost and steered with a tiller. She has a Windpilot servo-pendulum windvane selfsteering system. The anchor windlass is a manual two-speed double-action Simpson-Lawrence with 300′ of ½″ chain and an 88-lb Rocna anchor as the main bower. There are no other winches onboard.

For heat we have a Kabola diesel pot burner of 4.6W, and a Webasto diesel cabin heater of 5kW.

Lighting consists of a mix of kerosene and electric lamps. Cooking is done on an Eno propane stove with two burners and an oven. The Kabola also has a cooking top. We have a cooler with electric refrigeration, but when the water is cold, the bilges work just as well. The tankage is 135 gallons of fuel and the same amount of fresh water. Communications are made via mail (the one with stamps), VHF radio, HF radio, and the occasional WiFi connection.

Stranger approaches the skeles (let's say its at the farmers market or a livestock expo, etc) and says they're being stalked:

For all the Farm boys: FT, FF, FS and HF

Here’s the original prompts if anyone is curious!

Peaches: he quickly leads you to his family stall doing his best not to look like he’s on to the stalker. He fails miserably cause this guy can’t act, but hey, now you’re surrounded by people who are cool letting you hang around as long as you need for the stalker to go away!

Rancher: is there a pond anywhere near? Instead of rancher pretending to know you, he just has you point your stalker out. And he casually throws them into a pond after yelling to not harass people. Rancher has a reputation in Goldenvalley for his street justice so any locals are automatically on his side lol

Cider: it’s honestly surprising how fast he eases into his fake role of your date. When you ask him to pretend he knows you, cider puts on an easy smile and replies saying he’s so glad to see you again. You’re lead to a mobile bar and given a (non alcoholic) drink to sip on while you two “catch up”. If the stalker has the balls to sit at the bar too, cider says some bartender code to another worker who tells them they can’t serve them.

Barley: he can do you one better darling~ barley grabs a large mug of beer, and instead goes up to the stalker. He sways as he walks sloshing the beer around, and “accidentally” spills it all over the stalker. Then he pretends to drunkenly apologize and flirt, just being a general nuisance so you have a good distraction to slip away.

Ram: he’s another very good actor. He seems to do a decent job pretending he’s an old friend of yours. You guys walk around the animals for sale, leading the stalker in circles so Ram is convinced their following you. If they persist, he has you run behind a pie stall while he decides to confront them head on. It’s been a while since Ram has had a proper fight~

Pitch: he hisses when you grab his arm. You are a stranger after all. But if you persist and explain your problem, pitch just points you towards rancher and peaches stall, then stalks right up to the stalker and yells at them to leave you alone. He’s not playing friends.

Moose: he puts a large arm around your waist and leans down like he’s whispering something, but really he’s just asking you to point out who’s following you. When moose sees them, he dutifully walks with you, his arm still around you, and lets you chatter away as he occasionally gives the stalker his best death glare. Moose is a big strong looking monster, so it’s a pretty damn good glare too. No doubt the stalker has run off by now

Maple: there’s not a single subtle bone in his body sadly. When you say you’re being followed, he does a full body turn and in his usual volume is all “WHOS STALKING YOU??”. Well the stalker definitely knows you’re onto them now lol. Maple will also loudly agree to protect you till they leave and cheerfully (and still loudly) offers to get his chainsaw out of his truck if it makes you feel safer. The stalker wisely leaves after hearing that.
