The beast makes its wretched way forward. It is weighed down by injury, by pounds of blood soaked into its furs, its head. It stumbles often. It curses under its breath, words jarring in a mouth so distinctly inhuman, so mismatched. Stitches pull, borrowed bones grind against each other, but still it speaks just like a man would. It is still his voice, still his words.

It stumbles often, not for pain. It has always known how to shrug off pain, breaks, the cold. A lesson easily learned in the north. But any beast knows when something is wrong, when it cannot go on. One leg is too short. Where did the rest of it go?

All things men make tumble and fall. Ships sink. Roads crack apart against winter's slow siege. Stitches pull, borrowed bones grind against each other. All things men make tumble and fall, and the beast lays still.

  His Highness had always - had thought often of how he would die, someday. It was a constant wonder since he first met Death. Perhaps a constant wonder of any prince or princess, or whatever it was that he was.

Lacking his taste, how should he find that he has been poisoned? Lacking his eyes, how should he see that his people are gathered at the gate? Lacking his heart, how should he tell that it has stopped beating?

Would it be worse were he gone? Who else would stand in the way, between the greedy and the meek? His Highness allows the Duscur boy to taste for him, lip pulled. It should not ever have to be this way.

  The cat limps. Its eyes are eclipsed by cataracts, pupils like pinpricks of moonlight through a cloudy night. Its feet are sore. Its claws, its bones have been clipped off. It has no defense, no way to scratch the furniture. It has no way to fight the hungry jaws that collar its neck.

  A ballerina dances until their toetips break. A ballerina stands a particular way - their joints are ground smooth by the movement, by their liable youth, and their pieces become loose. A ballerina retires by 30. A ballerina stays young. A ballerina's back is strong, and never bends the wrong way. A body is molded to its purpose. How unfortunate to not know that the purpose does not fit.

  The beast is so low to the ground that it is crawling on its belly, a snake in the grass, a streak of black and blue, a bruise on the earth. The beast's fingers - if fingers are what they are, if fingers are what they are shaped to be, if the number and the placement of the joints is still correct - are wrapped tight into a fist. A glow suffuses it, lights the night up, marks it for death. The beast has only its teeth and its nails. It cannot relax its muscles, stiff and cold and bloodless, around the haft like a dead man's grip. The beast is an animal that does not know how to sheathe its claws, or close its grimace. The beast cannot see in the dark. So tired, it could swear the tip of its glaive wriggles with the twitch of its weary hands.

He would set it down if he could. He would lay still if he could. He would show his belly, and warm himself by a hearth, if he could. There is no comfort even for the fortunate.

The beast knows nothing of things like that. A hearth is a place for men and their hounds, and the beast is only good for the hunt and the platter.

  They can try their Saints damned best, if they want its pelt so bad.

This is kinda long, so read below!

This AU (Which I'm dubbing "ROTI Remix") features direct swaps! So for example, Brick swaps with Scott and vice versa. There's a 3-way swap in this au as well, just because the revenge cast has odd numbers loll

The characters don't swap personalities. However, they can adapt some personality traits of the person they've swapped with. For example: Lightning swaps with B, but he's not as dumb as his OG self. He's just very eccentric, and his inventions usually explode somehow. Think of it almost like a fusion?

Their swapped interests can change a bit, too. For example: Jo is swapped with Dawn. However, whilst Dawn is in tune with astrology and nature, Jo is interested in death and some aspects of modern witchcraft (though not a proper depiction). They're both still weird, creepy girls; they're just different types of "weird"!

I'll give some info on team dude, since they're pretty set in stone:

Brick - Whilst he is swapped with Scott whose literal label is "devious", he isn't exactly evil. Brick uses his sweet country boy charm and helpful nature to persuade others into doing what he wants. He's not malicious -- but he is a schemer and knows how to play the game. Whilst usually calm and collected, Brick can be a bit overconfident and clumsy at times, much like his canon self. His main inspo was cassidy from overwatch! And he has a southern accent :)

Jo - The introvert of all time. I've already explained a bit of Jo's deal -- She's a typical dark gothic occult girl. She has a fascination with the dead and probably collects animal bones. She can still be grumpy and snarky like her canon self, but she's much quieter. People are afraid of her, and she likes to keep it that way. Like how Dawn can read auras, Jo can see people's past sins (which might’ve played a part into her being so mistrustful) She can probably talk to ghosts, too -- another idea I had a while ago. Her personality is similar to Mandy from TGAOBAM.

Lightning's concept was a personal favourite of mine! He takes inspiration from Victor Frankenstein and Papyrus from Undertale. He's an energetic and talkative inventor who can be a little cocky sometimes. His inventions usually end up exploding or catching fire, but the grind never stops for him. Lightning loves working with electricity in particular, and he can honestly seem manic sometimes. He's an absolute delight and still a source of comedic relief. And of course, he still says sha- :)

Mike is swapped with Dakota, for anyone who was wondering -- He still has DID, but his claims of being an actor are actually true in this universe. He and the others are still WIPs, though I have all the concept ideas down! I might not say who exactly is swapped with who just yet. I'll let people figure that out.

I've decided to do the thing where I put a poll up of my wips and write however many sentences that wip gets. BUT! These wips aren't even published yet. I like to put something up then come back to it later so I can at least take the pressure off myself. Because the pressure of getting a first chapter out makes it difficult to write.

Jult - Inspired by a conversation me and my sister had in a shoe store. We were wondering if Best Jeanist ever put a J at the front of words (ex: Jhe Jaghetti jas jood) and if he owned jean themed items like a Jable and Jhair. Then I learned there was a jult around him and thought "hey, what if he had a Jult in canon universe?" which is what happened. Although, this one is a one-shot.

Snippet: The parents would leave the hospital as confident and reassured as new parents could be, doing their best to make sure their child grew up happy and healthy. His blond hair grew out and took on a shine along with his oddly long lashes, and his green eyes always sparkling, much like his mother’s. Yet, despite his healthy look and appetite, there was something worrying about him. 

He only liked denim. 

Shigaraki - Frankenstein AU! Where AFO brings Yoichi back to life, Frankenstein style. And what luck, Yoichi appears to have lost his memories, leaving him with the opportunity to create the perfect little brother. When Second and Third find out, they try and get his memories back. But there's something that all four of them don't know. That's. Not. Yoichi.

Snippet: It was not a dark day when Yoichi died. It was sunny and there was not a cloud in the sky, though they couldn’t tell as they ran through the sewers like frightened rats. Hearts pounding in their ears, terror palpable in the air. 

Ice King AU - The AU where everyone was born earlier into the Age of the Dawn of Quirks. Second and Third are brainwashed and work for AFO while Yoichi has become unrecognizable to everyone ever since putting on the quirked crown that gave him the ice powers. Meanwhile, Izuku and Katsuki are unaware of his tragic backstory and beat him up everytime he kidnaps a hero.

Snippet: At twelve years old, Izuku Midoriya should have been in middle school cutting open a dead frog. Instead, he was battling against a very large, very alive frog with acid spit. 

Pokemon AU - Instead of quirks, they get pokemon. Izuku is still bullied for having an eevee that can't evolve. AFO and Garaki do all sorts of unethical experiments on pokemon. And it's really annoying how I can't type an accented "e" on my computer for some reason.

Snippet: Izuku Midoriya was 9 years old when he learned that not all Pokémon were treated equally. 

Death Tree - Are you in the market for a fic with lesbian duoholders? Another Victorian era AU, but this time Yoichi and Second are both girls. I thought about how easily AFO's possessiveness over Yoichi would translate over to the attitudes toward women. He'd still have to disguise how deep it goes, but even if he slips up every once in a while, no one would suspect anything. The actual plot is Yone falls in love with the daughter of the stable manager, and they eventually start a secret relationship. She also makes some friends in the small town that she lives near and is pretty happy. Then her friends start dying. Looks like they're going to regret not paying more attention to AFOs behavior.

Snippet: Yone was thirteen years old the first time she met the girl. Her wild hair was a flame in the summer sun, freckles scattered across her cheeks in a way that was reminiscent of the stars in the sky and calculating ruby eyes. She couldn’t help her staring, not used to seeing someone display such blemishes so freely.

ive been tagged by a few people for wip wednesday/weekend but tbh, none of my wips are catching my interest.

so i've made a poll of all of my wips and will work on the winner for a week after the poll ends. the week after that will be a new poll (omitting the wip i just worked on) and the process will repeat until i've cycled through all of them.

once i've done that, i'll start completely over until all my wips are either complete, or i've got new ideas to work on.
