This unique piece was created for a group exhibition of diptychs. As an art term a diptych is an artwork consisting of two pieces or panels, that together create a singular art piece. These can be attached together or presented adjoining each other. In medieval times, panels were often hinged so that they could be closed and the artworks protected. Rather than show two works side by side I opted to integrate them into one by representing a woman’s earthly existence as a portrait in the flesh with a two dimensional Victorian era photograph and then her afterlife as a three dimensional ribcage. These were both set behind an antique hinged train window and screen with the visor turned upside down into a shelf for the hourglass that tells the time passed between them.
