New Release: Marine Debris Resource Collection
Tumblr media
Marine debris threatens the ocean and its resources, the economy, and safe navigation. Animals like birds, turtles, marine mammals, and other creatures can die when they accidentally swallow or get tangled up in marine debris.
Tumblr media
All national marine sanctuaries face the challenges of marine debris and the harmful impacts that come along with managing this problem. The Marine Debris Resource Collection features resources related to the problem of marine debris, NOAA and sanctuary system programs, and the solution to pollution.

Why World Ocean Day?
Tumblr media
Welcome to National Public School Kudlu! As we gather here on this special occasion of World Ocean Day, let us embark on a remarkable journey into the depths of the mighty blue that covers over 70% of our planet. Today, we celebrate the ocean—the life-giving force that sustains us, supports biodiversity, fuels our economy, and offers us countless adventures. Join us as we dive into the depths of knowledge and discover the significance of our magnificent oceans.
The Ocean's Purpose: Why It Matters:
Did you know that the ocean is responsible for producing at least 50% of the oxygen we breathe? That's right! Each breath we take is a gift from our vast and powerful ocean. Beyond oxygen production, the ocean also acts as a sanctuary for the Earth's remarkable biodiversity. It is home to millions of unique species, from the tiniest plankton to the majestic whales that grace our seas.
But the ocean's importance doesn't stop there. It serves as the primary source of protein for over a billion people worldwide. It nourishes our bodies and sustains coastal communities by providing an abundance of fish and seafood. Moreover, the ocean plays a significant role in our global economy. By 2030, an estimated 40 million people will be employed in ocean-based industries, contributing to the growth and prosperity of nations around the world.
Conserving the Ocean: Our Collective Responsibility:
Now that we understand the immense value of our oceans, it becomes our collective responsibility to conserve them. As members of National Public School Kudlu, we have the power to create positive change and protect the oceans for future generations. Here are some ways we can contribute:
Spread Awareness: Educate others about the importance of the ocean. Share your newfound knowledge with family, friends, and classmates. Inspire them to take action and become ocean ambassadors themselves.
Reduce Plastic Pollution: Plastic waste poses a severe threat to marine life and ecosystems. Say no to single-use plastics, recycle diligently, and participate in beach cleanup drives. Let's make a conscious effort to keep our oceans clean and free from harmful debris.
Conserve Water: The ocean and its inhabitants rely on freshwater sources. By conserving water in our daily lives, we can reduce the strain on these vital resources and ensure a healthier environment for both land and sea.
Support Sustainable Seafood: When choosing seafood, opt for sustainably sourced options. This decision helps protect ocean ecosystems and ensures the long-term viability of fish populations.
Conclusion: The Time for Action is Now!
As we celebrate World Oceans Day here at National Public School Kudlu, let us recognize the incredible role the ocean plays in our lives. From providing oxygen to sustaining biodiversity and supporting livelihoods, the ocean's significance cannot be overstated. We have a duty to preserve and protect this vast and remarkable ecosystem.
So, let's join hands, dear students, and take a pledge to conserve the ocean and keep our beaches clean. Together, we can make a difference. As we move forward, let us remember that our actions today shape the future of our oceans tomorrow.
Happy World Ocean Day! Let's dive into a brighter, bluer future!

Sea Monsters!
We had created them for real. The ones that were only imagined in fables, folklore, and films. Sea Monsters. That threatens all lives and all lands. It's high time we stopped the monsters from entering the sea. All that we do not need, do not belong to the waters. Stop the Monster. Stop, Monsters!
___________
Plastic waste makes up 80% of all marine pollution and around 8 to 10 million metric tons of plastic end in the ocean each year. Research states that, by 2050, plastic will likely outweigh all fish in the sea.
Currently, there are about 50-75 trillion pieces of plastic and microplastics in the ocean.
Plastic pollution in the ocean has a devastating impact on marine life and ecosystems. The most obvious one is the damage plastic items cause to animals when they come into contact with or ingest them, which includes suffocation, entanglement, laceration, infections, and internal injuries.
Harm to Human Beings: Plastic materials are carcinogenic and can affect the body’s endocrine system, causing developmental, neurological, reproductive, and immune disorders. Another health hazard is given by toxic contaminants that often accumulate on plastic’s surface, and are then transferred to humans through the consumption of seafood.
Climate Change: Plastic pollution and climate change are two sides of the same coin: plastic production, as it is created from fossil fuels, highly contributes to the climate crisis.

Today is the International Coastal Cleanup!
Find marine debris projects in your region:
Whether you’re participating in an organized cleanup event today or not, head out to your favorite beach today and do what you can to fight marine debris.
Not near a beach? You can still help keep our ocean clean by keeping your local streams and rivers clear of trash, using reusable shopping bags and drink containers, opting not to use plastic straws if you don’t need them, and spreading the word about the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy ocean.

Recent research on microplastic pollution is shocking. The researchers identified microplastic particles in the blood of 80% of the people involved in the research, followed by microplastic particles in the lungs of humans. A recent research suggests that plastic sheets used in farms are not only damaging the soil but also entering crops in the form of microplastics.

Saving Seals From a Sea of Plastic and Marine Garbage - The New York Times
"Funded by donations, Ocean Conservation Namibia now has a team of seven, and is registered as a nonprofit in the United States. The Dreyers have also stopped eating fish and other animal products. “After starting this journey, Katja and I found it very hypocritical to spend so much time saving animals, only to go home and eat other animals,” Mr. Dreyer said in an email. “It just doesn’t make sense.”
Some of the animal shelters and rescues I network for will do fundraisers that involve the killing and eating of other animals. I call them out on it everytime. Why are we torturing one animal to save the life of another?
