The missing Arthurian knight - rediscovered in 2019
Well the title is a slight lie - the missing knight wasn't rediscovered in 2019, it was earlier than that, but he didn't became public until 2019.
Tumblr media
So what's this "missing knight" about? Well as the title says. There was a knight part of the Arthurian myth, and he had been missing ever since the Middle-Ages, and he was only recently rediscovered.
Or rather, to be exact - there was an Arthurian novel centered around a knight that existed and was a famous and well-known part of the Arthurian literature in the Middle-Ages, but that completely disappeared, and was forgotten by culture (as much popular culture as the scholarly one). Until very recently.
This rediscovered novel has been a hot topic of all Arthuriana fans in Europe for a few years now - and yet I do not see much talk about this onto this website, despite Tumblr being a big place for Arthurian fans?
So I will correct this by doing a series of posts about the subject. And this post will be the first one, the introduction post presenting to you "Ségurant, le chevalier au dragon" ; "Segurant, the knight of the dragon". A French medieval novel part of the Arthurian literature (hence the "chevalier au X" title structure - like Lancelot, the knight of the cart or Yvain the knight of the lion from Chrétien de Troyes), the reason this story was forgotten by all medievalist and literary scholars is - long story short - because it never existed in any full manuscript (at least none that survived to this day). It was a complete story yes, with even variations apparently, but that was cut into pieces and fragments inserted into various other manuscripts and texts (most notably various "Merlin's Prophecies").
The novel and the Knight of the Dragon were rediscovered through the work of Emanuele Arioli, who rediscovered a fragment of the story while looking at an old manuscript of a Merlin Prophecies, and then went on the hunt for the other fragments and pieces scattered around Europe, until he finally could compile the full story, that he then published in 2019, at the Belles Lettres publishing house, in 2019.
Arioli reconstructed the text, and translated it in both modern French and Italian for scholarly and professional editions (aka Honoré Champion in France, a reference for universities)...
Tumblr media
... But also for a more "all public, found in all libraries" edition - the famous 2019 edition at Les Belles Lettres.
Tumblr media
And not only that, but he also participated to both a comic book adaptation with Emiliano Tanzillo...
Tumblr media
... and an adaptation as an illustrated children novel!
Tumblr media
Finally, just a few weeks, the Franco-German channel Arte released a documentary about the reconstitution and content of this missing novel called "Le Chevalier au dragon: Le roman disparu de la Table Ronde". (The Knight of the Dragon - The missing novel of the Round Table). The full documentary is on Youtube in French for those that speak the language, here. And in German here for those who speak German.
Unfortunately there is no English version of the documentary that I know of, nor any English publications of the actual text - just French and Italian. But hey, I'll try to palliate to that by doing some English-speaking posts about this whole business!

Did you know that somewhere in the late 80s (1987-1989,) there was supposed to be one more official Care Bear cousin?
The Care Bear artist at the time “Elena Kucharik” was tasked by the “American Greetings” company to make one more Care Bear cousin, she ended up making a koala character, which had no symbol and was most likely female.
Tumblr media
This character must have been well received because a prototype plush was made for the character,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this however, the character never got to see the light of day, and was never released, it’s still unknown what happened to this toy product of the character,
However, eventually after many years the character was uncovered along with other unreleased material for many to see, including fans of the franchise,
the Care Bear related fandom taking notice of this character having no name, decided to give the new name “Glow Heart,” which much of the fandom still calls this character by.

✨Fairies Finds✨: New Early Artwork and Promotional Video from 2005 Disney Fairies Japan Website with Gail Carson Levine- Author of Fairy Dust Trilogy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fly with you everyone and happy Friday the 13th! I have been looking into Disney Fairies pre-release stuff ever since some early stuff was posted into Art of Disney Fairies. I have also been interested in media preservation since late 2017 when I found Web Back Then. Truthfully, despite having this interest when trying to find the old Disney Fairies games from my childhood- I never really shared much with the world. I feel like I should remedy that! (this find is relatively recent though I found it yesterday!)
This is a video I found on the Internet Archive from disneyfairies.jp, a promotional page on the Disney Japan website that seems disconnected from the main Disney Fairies page which was a clone of the original website. See here
Through some research the gist of the video is this:
The video starts with an introduction to the original Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, which is interjected with clips from Disney's Peter Pan. Then we see more artwork of Disney Fairies- including unfamilar designs including early Vidia, Rani, Fira etc. According to Part of the Magic, Disney Fairies started development in early 2001- the series was launched fully in 2005. Then Gail (dubbed of course) begins to describe the plot of Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg whilst we see several pictures of this early Disney Fairies art. Interesting pictures as we get to see the very early designs of Disney Fairies characters that I have never seen before.
Interestingly, this video was never embedded on the page, you had to download it and play it through a video player such as Windows Media Player or Real Player, it was 2005 after all.
Tumblr media
Here is the screen you'd see when you'd want to watch this promotional video. I recognize the leaves used in early flash games such as Lightball Challenge, Dragonfly Race etc.
Tumblr media
A page on the website that I found with my decomplier, i couldn't view it normally!
I tried looking for this video in English to no avail, or any version on the internet. It must have only been accessible through this website.
Interestingly, I found this other page whilst doing my page digging thing again and found this, suggesting this was also a Japan exclusive and not for the American market ... and there is more early promotional stuff to be found in relation to Disney Fairies!
Tumblr media
I also looked into one the main book artists on the creative team, Judith Holmes Clarke. She had a website I found on her IMDB page, that was live around 2017-2019. I saw this and wanted to add it as it had one of the stills in this video. It also has a sketch of Rosetta and Tink. This is what I found:
Tumblr media
It is probably a scan of this magazine, Disney Newsreel, mentioned on her IMDB.
Overall, I'm super happy with this find and I'm so happy to share it with you all!! I will be happy to share more now that I'm publicly outing myself not just as this fan of children's fairy media- an archivist. gasp...
Also probably making a website/blog which I will share later and will be in the About Me link with my other socials.
Tumblr media
And believe me, this is just the beginning

Half Life 2 skin for the Windows Media 9 Series (2003)
"Inside it holds your average media player essentials such as a folder to fetch your media, a playlist feature, seeking and volume functions, tuning and of course pausing and skipping. Surprisingly as a bonus this media player contains a section where you can access beta screenshots from Half-Life 2 from early level designs to concept renders. Here you can also find a link which brings you to the Half-Life website (here) and the Windows XP website as well (now defunct) (here). With videos you can change the brightness, hue, contrast and etc." - 9 Hour Work Day on Steam.
[DOWNLOAD LINK!]
Note: I'm unsure if this works on Windows 11! I've read that it does, but I'm yet to try it myself.

Back again with the search for the ever elusive "Great All-American Pizza Show!"
Tumblr media
Some of you may remember my previous post sharing this little interesting clue, however after a bit of digging, I'm sad to say that this probably doesn't lead anywhere. When I looked up the OP's username, they were active in a forum about vintage Detroit TV shows. The first PTT to open in Michigan was in November of 1980 so several months after TGAAPS commercials reportedly stopped airing. Now it's not impossible that OP lived in the Bay Area and saw the commercial before moving to Detroit sometime later but I'm not too sure about this lead anymore. I still feel like it has potential. Maybe the ad was run in the Greater Detroit Area at some point but I haven't seen anything indicating this to be the case. It seemed to mostly be aired in the Bay and LA area.
Speaking of the Bay and LA area, I've been skimming through TV commercial compilations specifically from the Bay Area. So far nothing has popped up but I still have hope that something will appear at some point. Unfortunately most TV archive seem to be more interested in archiving documentaries focusing on "the real issues" like "Civil rights" and "LGBTQ+ acceptance" instead of truly worthy things like the almighty pizza rat. Joking of course, but it's a little frustrating to search archives and find things that match up perfectly date-wise, but always cut out the commercials.
Either way, I'm like 80% sure that even the smallest fraction of this commercial exists online. Whether it be on a YouTube video with only 2 views or a frame of it existing on someone's long defunct blog. A few weeks ago someone found a concept unification commercial from 1991 that I don't think anyone knew about previously and just the other day Retrontario uploaded another previously unknown ad, so it has to be out there somewhere. I'm not sure if there's any Bay Area TV Commercial forums but if there is I'll be sure to look through it to see if there's any mention of it. Until then, I'll keep looking through ad compilations.

Newly uploaded, Shelby Care and Training Guide by Barbara Slate on archive.org
Hi, I recently acquired the rare Shelby Care and Training Guide book, which had never been documented before. I have uploaded the best scans I could get to archive.org, however they are not great quality, and I will update them when I get a real scanner. Enjoy!!!
Btw, there is a bunch of new Furby/Shelby lore in there!

Here are a couple of my favourite abstract collages I’ve made. These were all done using discarded materials I found and on wood panel. I made these two during the Covid years. They hang in my house for now.
