The Borrower and Her Bean - Part 19
Tumblr media
Summary: Melina is now a bean
Word Count: 1453
A/N this story is coming to a close, Thank you for those who have take this fun journey with me. One more to follow
Part 18 - Epilogue
Melina studied Henry, the stubbled lines of his Jaw, the dimpled chin and the fine smile lines around his eyes. She would never get tired of this face. As much as she liked watching him sleep her excitement had her wriggling. A rough voice broke into the silence "Morning my little sprite" a smile broke on her face as he opened his eyes. He chuckled as she wriggled some more as he pulled her into his embrace. Kissing her forehead he whispered, "so what is causing your bubbly demeanor this morning?" groaning at his question she buried her head into this neck mumbling "you know" his strong arms wrapping around her as he whispered "Happy Christmas"
The two beans and their furry companion carefully made their way downstairs to the living room. It had been 4 weeks since Melina had become a bean, each day both she and Henry had made a conscious effort to step lightly, and move cautiously. It had not been an easy transition, she recalled the first time she had accompanied Henry to a supermarket. She had been in awe of all the different food and products. When walking past the ice cream she had seen her favourite flavour and pulled out a small tub putting it in her pocket. When they got to the check out Henry had to ask her for the ice cream. Wondering why he wanted it she had said "Why don't you get your own?" he had laughed at her and then said quietly "we have to pay for it, Lina, this lady scans the item and then tells me how much money I owe her. Then I pay for it. We don't borrow in Bean's world." She had handed it to him and watched as the lady did exactly as Henry had said. Once she had scanned the lot she gave Henry a figure and he handed her some paper and metal things that looked like buttons.
It had taken her a while to adjust to not being able to just take what she needed. Thankfully Henry had been there to help her not get into trouble. The fun part of being a bean though was having access to so many amazing things. Especially around Christmas! her family celebrated Christmas they would get a small branch off a tree and put tinsel on it. This year she had gone with Henry to pick a tree, it was amazing seeing all the different sizes and colours. Last night the night before Christmas the whole family Mum and Dad, Carson and Greg along with Pam and Elisha and their parents had gathered downstairs and helped to decorate the tree.
Dad had insisted that they climb the branches of the tree so they could thread the lights through to the perfect spots. She had to admit it had looked great once the lights were turned on, it was perfect. She and Henry had hung the ornaments, and the boys with the help of their girlfriends had threaded the tinsel through the boughs of the tree. It had looked magical as the tree was finished. Henry had smiled at Lina as he picked up the last piece, an Angel that was small with a sparkling gold dress and real feathers for wings. He had placed it in her hands, then lifted her by the waist allowing her to place the final piece on the top of the tree. Nothing could replace that feeling of warmth as he had wrapped his arms around her as they both gazed up at the tree.
Standing in the kitchen She and Henry had been cooking most of the morning, well Henry had been cooking she had been fetching mixing and sneaking bites. Right now she was preparing the meals, the little plates were full of pork, apple sauce, mash potato, stuffing, and salad. In little mugs, they had mulled wine. She smiled as she felt a pair of arms wrap around her his hot breath tickling her ear as he said "You ready" together they carried the food out to the coffee table there on top of the table was her family sitting around a small table they had bought that seated 8 borrowers. With delicate fingers, she placed the meals before each one along with their drinks as Henry placed their food at the end of the table. Both beans sat on the floor, Kal laying next to his master hoping for some Christmas treats.
Melina smiles a broad smile at her family, she was still getting used to no longer being able to hug her mum or dad, or having Greg being her protector. The tables were turned now, she along with Henry were their protectors. Henry cleared his throat holding his glass of mulled wine out "A Toast, to Family, and to true friends who become family." the group held out there cups a collective small cheer rising from the middle of the table. Melina's Dad stood up holing his cup out " I would like to Toast to new and old friends, to Love and second chances" this bought another cheer and chuckles from the table. Chatter followed as the friends and family ate, drank and celebrated together the festive season.
Stomachs full and minds fogged by mulled wine, the group made their way to the Christmas tree. Henry put a Santa hat on and went to the bottom of the tree pickup and handing out the gifts. Each borrower received new sets of clothing including a fancy dress for the girls and suits for the men. They also received a new rope and three-pronged fish hook rig each.  Melina received a new journal from her parents who had help from Henry in purchasing it and the young adults had chosen three new dresses for Melina also with his help. There were two boxes left under the tree, one was big and one was small.  Melina went to the big box and laid it before Henry, grinning he removed the paper the non-descript brown box gave nothing away as he began to open it. Inside was a glassless frame bordering a sketch of Kal stretched out sunning himself in the garden.
As Henry studied the intricate scene he looking past the large dog, there he began to see hidden amongst the garden images of the borrowers peeing out at him all in different poses. He smiled up at Lina and spoke in a hushed tone "Lina, this is amazing, you have a real talent." the praise lit a warm spark inside her. She had secretly been working on it and did not know if it was something he would love or not. Henry stood and walked to the tree picking up the small package, he walked back to Lina and knelt before her. Looking up into her eyes, he watched as a softness filled the sweet pools that he wanted to get lost in.
Taking a deep breath and stilling his erratic heartbeat he grabbed her hand as he spoke  "Lina, For a long time I have been searching for something that would bring me a sense of completeness, I thought it would come once I reached a level in my fame and work. There was a sense of satisfaction but it still felt hollow once the high faded. It wasn't till I met you that I began to feel peace, contentment, In your arms I am home. I asked your father for his blessing and now I am asking you in front of your family. Would you have me, whether I am big or small, would you consent to be my wife?"  As he said the last few words he opened the small box to reveal a small ring nestles into a velvet pillow, delicate with three small pink diamonds winking up at her.
Waiting but a breath Melina's eyes swam with tears and she whispered, Yes, as he placed the ring on her hand. Both lost in each other, they missed the collective gasp from the borrowers as two delicate voices chuckled behind them.  Standing tall and willowy the Star fairies smiled at the Borrower and her Bean as they turned their faces showing fear and curiosity. The Bell-like voice of Nightsong spoke "My little starling do not be afraid, we have been with you your whole life. Your voice has drawn us to you time and time again. We come to celebrate with you, you have both experienced life big and small. We would like to give you a gift, you can choose how you would like to live. Which will it be? A Borrower or a Bean?
A/N oooooo what would you choose?

Perfectly Imperfect
Hey Leah! I was wondering if I could also request the prompt 12. “Just talk to me” and if you’re up for it prompt 5. a gentle “i love you” whispered after a soft kiss, followed immediately by a stronger kiss for Leia Organa? Thank you, love!! 💖💖💖
A/N: Well shit. This is my first mostly angst one, made me want to cry while writing it, if you want my feels as i wrote, I recommend listening to “The Last Time” and “exile” by Taylor Swift while you read. Its not based off those songs but its a vibe. But enjoy? It does get fluffy I swear <3 Also, not my gif, I have no idea whos it is.
Want to Request? See Here.
Perfectly Imperfect
Prompts: #12 - “Just talk to me” & #5 -  a gentle “i love you” whispered after a soft kiss, followed immediately by a stronger kiss
Word Count: 1.2k Pairing: Leia Organa x reader (based off a female reader, but I’ve avoided any pronouns, so gender neutral?) Warnings: mentions of death and blood, just battle aftermath Summary: The battle was long and hard, there was no victory, and you lost a lot of good people that day. You try to help Leia find a moment of peace amongst it all. - Established Relationship

It was awful. So many people had died that day, and even after all that, you still hadn’t won. Yes the rebellion was small, and yes losses were to be expected. But this amount of loss of life just seemed so… unnecessary. As someone ordinary, you could only feel the hopelessness in the aftermath, the pain that followed the friends and families of those who were gone. Had you not known that it was such a horrible thing occurring, it would almost look like hundreds of shooting stars.
Is that what the children of the nearby planet saw? Colourful explosions and streaks of lights that they could wish on?
The thought of that was morbid all on its own. However, knowing that it might be a small comfort to some, gave you some hope that maybe, maybe, not everything that comes out of this will be bad.
You made your way through the hangar, following the route you had taken thousands of times to the command room. There were small groups of people everywhere, sitting on the floor, huddled in groups, trying to find some semblance of comfort. You could use some of that too, you supposed.
By the time you walked in, it had fallen quiet. Luke had beaten you here, his head leant back on the wall and his eyes shut tightly. Han and Chewie were sitting close to him, in hushed conversation, exhausted expressions on their faces. Han had blood dried to the side of his face, but it seemed he was yet to go and see a medic regardless.
The medics were likely busy enough without him there.
Other commanders were slouched over tables, some asleep, trying to forget what they had witnessed. Others were awake, their heads in their hands, faces screwed tight, trying to figure out exactly what had gone wrong. Then you found her.
Leia was standing over a holotable, hands gripping the edge, and when you got closer you noticed her hands were paler than usual. Her eyes were shut and the bags under them were deeper than usual. This and the frown, it made her look… drawn. She opened her eyes when you covered one of her hands with your own. When she turned her gaze to your face, her shoulders dipped ever so slightly and her eyes softened. Relief.
With a shaky inhale, and what you hoped was a comforting face, you drew her in close, sighing when she responded by dropped her head on your shoulder. You would’ve stood there for hours, but she pulled away after a few seconds to look back at the table, weary expression returning. Oh, Leia.
“Leia? Are you o- No, that’s a stupid thing to ask… I already know the answer.” She didn’t respond, though her grip on the table tightened again. You gently rested a hand on her elbow. This was worse than usual, worse than what you had gone through. You slid your hand down to hers and began pulling her away, which she thankfully didn’t fight. You didn’t stop tugging until you were in your shared quarters. The lighting was dark, the only way you saw her face was the blur of hyperspace illuminating parts of the room. It was deathly silent here too, much like the rest of the ship.
You’re the one to break the silence.
“Leia, please,” you stepped forwards again, holding both her hands with your shaking ones, “just talk to me?” She finally looked you in the eye. They were watering, and they just seemed so filled with pain, unlike anything you had seen before. With the first shaking sob, she went to the floor, you and your heart falling with her.
“I felt them all! All of them! And I couldn’t do anything.” You didn’t understand the first thing when it came to the force. You understood Leia, however. You knew she just needed you here. With her. “They’re all gone, and I just sat here and did nothing!”
You knew that seeing her in pain made you feel it too, your eyes and heart and throat stinging all at once. You’re not sure when you started crying either. Or when you couldn’t feel how cold the floor was underneath your legs. Your noses were buried in each-other’s necks, and the grief just seemed to hold you in place on the floor. Leia was always so strong, seeing her like this? It could make just about anyone break with her.
You sniffled and tried to gather yourself. You pulled away, and steadied yourself by holding her cheeks, wiping the stray tears away.
“I don’t- I um-” you had started, trying to string together some imperfect words of comfort. “I don’t- I really don’t understand how this force thing works, but I am so sorry you had to feel all that. But don’t ever blame yourself. They- We all knew what we were signing up for when we joined the rebellion.” Her breathing was slowing, evening out, and the drawn out look was still there, but felt warmer somehow.
“What I do know, is that Luke’s still here. And chewie,” you rolled your eyes, “and karking Han,” she breathed out one laugh, and slowly, you could see her again. You searched her face, taking in every detail like it was the last time. “And me. I’m still here. And I’m always gonna be, if you let me.”
“I’m not saying to disregard the deaths of all those people, but I’m saying that we should remember those we’ve lost, and cherish all that we still have. It’s the only way we can make it through this.” She sighed and scanned your face again. You were certain it was as grimy and exhausted as most, though she didn’t seem to care because she kept staring. When she leaned in, you met her halfway.
It was so gentle, a tentative search for comfort, reaching for that small flicker of light in the darkest of times. Your hands still cupped her face, and hers were tangled in your hair, gripping onto what was right in front of her. She only pulled back by a few inches, just enough to keep your foreheads pressed together, savouring the time you had. She exhaled heavily, and seemed to lighten with the loss of breath. When she spoke, it was hardly even a whisper, it was croaky, but it was perfect.
“I love you. I love you so much.” You didn’t move, but your heart sung with the declaration. You nodded against her and kissed her again, more confident now. She pushed back just as much, and the spark grew to become a steady and constant flame, burning bright and chasing the shadows away. Her lips were still as soft as they always were, maybe a little chapped, and you had missed slightly which had caused your noses to be pressed together, rather than fit side by side. Both of your cheeks were still wet, and you were covered in dirt, but none of that matters. You stayed against her lips and whispered back.
“I love you too.” You could feel her grin as she kissed you again, escaping again from the universe.
No. None of that mattered right now. You could face your grief later, face the empire and your enemies later. For now, you sought comfort in your lover, in the warmth of her skin and the softness of her hair, in the strange blurring lights of hyperspace. For now, you could enjoy the moment. A perfectly imperfect moment.

I cherished the freedom of the open road as I sat in the back of FP’s truck, my sights set on the trees that adorned the sides of the road, illuminated by the moonlight. My long hair moving with the wind that created a chill within the vehicle. Sweet Pea’s hand lay resting on my thigh, drawing small circles through the denim fabric of my jeans. No one spoke a word, not even of the nights events, all we could hear was the sound of the engine and Pea’s motorcycle rattling around in the trailer.
Although I was at comfort, I still couldn’t help but feel slightly tense, as if I was fourth wheeling on the three men in the car. FP and Jughead kept looking back at me through the rear view and wing mirrors respectively, a mixture of sorrow and guilt in their eyes, as if they blamed themselves for what had happened. Each time they did this, I pretended as if I didn’t notice but the one time that I caught FP’s eye, he looked away from me at the speed of light, causing me to sink down into my seat.
The horizon was irradiated by the time that we drove into the familiarity of Riverdale, a wave of liberation flooding through my body as we approached the Whyte Wrym. Sweet Pea removed his hand from my thigh, lacing his fingers through my own. It was now that I turned my head away from the window, looking at him to see an uplifting smile on his face. His mouthed ‘are you ok?’ and I simply nodded before looking down at our connected hands, tightening the grip.
I’m safe.
I fluttered my eyelids open, the interior of the Whyte Wyrm entering my eyesight. The natural light causing my eyes to shut quickly and adjust after being shadowed in darkness whilst I slept. I pushed myself up from the uncomfortable position that I had found myself in on the couch. Unsure of how I got here, my questions were answered as I saw FP and Jughead sat by the bar, FP with a half-empty bottle of beer and Jughead with a glass of coke. They were sat in silence, staring at the surface in front of them. Raising to my feet, I walked over to them before pulling out a stool and sitting in between them, it was only then that they noticed I was awake.
“How are you feeling?” I turned to Jughead to find him staring at me intensely.
“I’m good, feeling much better after that nap” I looked over my shoulder, looking around the bar, “where’s Pea?”
FP sighed next to me, my attention turning to him. “He went home”. I sighed quietly, I have to admit that I am a bit upset that he isn’t here. “I needed to talk to you about something”.
My eyebrow raised in confusion and interest, my silence signalling for the man to continue. As he did, he let out a long breath, looking over to Jughead who I saw nod at his dad in the corner of my eye before he spoke.
“You moving here… it was a complete shock, for you especially, but also for me”. He looked me in the eyes, his hand twitching as if he wanted to hold onto mine but scared to initiate it, so I took matters into my own hands – literally – as I cupped his hand amongst mine, his rough fingertips rubbing against the palm of my hand. “You see…” His Adam’s apple moved as swallowed harshly, a single drop of sweat rolling down the side of his face. “I knew you, before you moved away from Riverdale. I knew your mom before you were born. Quite well, actually”. His eyes left mine and he looked down to watch our hands. “God this is more difficult than I thought it would be”, he mumbled under his breath, I wasn’t sure if I was meant to hear it, but I did. I was trying to add everything that he had said so far together in my head, thinking about my childhood, faded memories slowly coming back into colour. A familiar face being a common occurrence in those memories, my eyes scanned over FP’s, minus the stubble and a few wrinkles from age, the resemblance was uncanny.
“When your mother called to tell me that you were coming home. I felt full again, like all the shit I’ve been through in my life had been worth something. My girl was coming home”. I felt my eyes widen as he spoke these words, everything adding up in my mind. “And when I saw you get out of that car, I knew that you were so special. I had to make up for the 15 years of your life that I had missed, which I guess explains why I so quickly took you under my wing”.
I felt so comfortable around FP, from the moment that I arrived in Riverdale that was some sort of familiarity whenever I was around him, despite him being, what I thought, a complete stranger. I looked over at Jughead looking for him to confirm what I was speculating in my head, but he avoided eye contact.
“When I got that call from Penny, I felt broken again. I had just got you back and the thought that I could have lost you again absolutely tore me to pieces”. Another tear fell from his eyes, but he didn’t make an effort to hide this one.
It’s so difficult to say this straight up but I’m going to, please just hear me out before you react. If you want to leave, I’ll understand, but please just let me finish”. His eyes went back to my own, searching mine as his were full of fear. “I’m your dad, Y/N”. He used his hand that wasn’t held between mine to wipe away a tear that escaped from his eye, his voice cracking slightly as he continued to speak.
“And I’m so sorry that I wasn’t there for you”. I leaned closer to him, releasing his hand, moving my arm to wrap it around his waist, resting my head on his shoulder, rubbing his back in an attempt to soothe him.
“I was there as much as I could have been when you were young, but life got in the way, I pushed you and your mother away and I have been full of regret since the day that you left”.
It all made so much sense in my mind. In all of my years on this planet, I had never allowed myself to become comfortable around people so quickly, it explains why FP and Jughead were so different, the underlying family bond that was undoubtedly within me. The memories came flooding back from my early childhood, memories that I had forgotten after so long were now so prominent within my mind.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t realise the two pairs of eyes burning into my skin. I looked at the two people next to me, a warm feeling as I made eye contact with them both individually. I couldn’t hide the smile that crept up onto my face. I looked at Jughead.
“So… that means your my…”
“brother. Yeah” The most genuine smile that I had ever seen appeared on his face, the warm feeling only intensifying. I was lost for words; my life had changed within moments, but it didn’t feel like it had. It felt like I had known this for years, but I guess that came with the fact that I had already developed such a close relationship with the two of them, but now I know exactly why that was.
Unsure of what to say, I removed my arm from my dad’s waist (so weird but feels so right to think) before embracing my newly-found brother in my arms. Hugging him tightly as I buried my head in his neck, his arms only pulling me closer to him causing me to shift to the edge of the stool that I had been sat on. I pulled away after what felt like ages before turning and hugging my dad, my neck becoming damp as his tears continued to fall from his eyes. I rubbed his back once again to soothe him. I pulled away from the hug, a huge smile on my face as I looked in his eyes before sitting back down on the stool beside me.
“We have so much to catch up on” My dad let out a short chuckle, shaking his head as he walked behind the bar to grab us a drink each, as I was already deep in conversation with Jughead about the 15 years that we lived without each other.
I had been at the Wyrm all day that when it came to me eventually leaving, the bar was pitch black as we hadn’t noticed the nightlife taking over from the day as we were deep in conversation. I was dropped off at Sweet Pea’s trailer, noticing that the main lights were also off but the illuminations from the TV screen were visible through the cracks within the curtains.
Weary of the fact that Sweet Pea may be asleep, I put my key in the lock and turned it as cautiously as possible before walking in slowly, looking towards the living room to see that Sweet Pea was already on his feet facing me as I walked in. Before I could get settled, I was secure within his embrace. I snaked my hands up his back, pushing on the back of his neck forcing him to lean down and connect his lips with mine. I deepened the kiss slightly before we both pulled away from each other, our foreheads rested against each other as we stared deeply into each other’s eyes.
I leant back slightly, my hands connected behind his back whilst his rested on my bum.
“Life feels so good right now”. Despite everything that had happened within the past 48 hours, I felt perfect, like everything fell into place. In the craziest of circumstances, I gained a father and a brother. My life felt complete again, despite me never really realising that it had some emptiness.
I kissed him once but we both allowed for this one to deepen, eventually leading us to the bedroom where we made up for the time we lost during our brief separation.
Life is good, the darkness turned into light. And I am happy. That’s all that matters.
Thank you for supporting this series! I hope you liked it! X
