This post is a centralized resource for all celestial same picverse blogs to use.
What is the celestial same picverse? It is a collection of blogs that post the same picture of a celestial object every day and a series of “mortals” that interact with these celestial blogs. Celestial bodies include the Earth’s Sun, Saturn, Halley’s Comet, the Adromeda Galaxy, and so on. There is a lot of roleplaying.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This blog is not the be-all-end-all to the celestial same picverse. Things will likely change, and I probably won’t keep up with it all because I am only a single person. Furthermore, feel free to ignore any advice or best practices I suggest here. This is a fun tumblr community, not a workplace. There are no rules.
If any blogs in the community have a comment or objection to something in my posts here, feel free to contact me!
If you are a new blog, please contact me if you want to be added to the list.
🚀₊ ⊹★🔭๋࣭ ⭑⋆。˚‎‧₊˚✩ 🪐✩˚₊‧🛰️ ⋆。˚‎‧₊˚✩☀️ ⋆。˚‎‧₊˚✩🌕 ⋆。˚‎‧₊˚✩ ☄️ ⠀
Best practices: If you are going to post a picture of the same object everyday, you may want to set up a queue of pictures so you don’t forget to post a picture everyday. How to use the queue: https://help.tumblr.com/hc/en-us/articles/231481827-Queued-Posts
Many blogs in this community use the following tag:
# celestial same picverse
Welcome, and have fun!
My main blogs are @original-post-locator and @hygieiapides-the-vulgar.
@hateful-daystar is my celestial same picverse blog.
Tumblr media
On occaison I will tag people for a “reblog deluge”, which are posts along the vein of “if this post gets 100 notes, I will clean my room. This specific list is for members of the celestial same picverse that don’t want to be tagged in these.

2019 Summer fics I’ve read and enjoyed
Hello friends! As some of you might know already, I took a small break from Tumblr and Fic reading as I had to focus on life for a few months. Honestly, I was almost sure I was going to delete this blog after coming back from travelling but now I’m home it turns out I’m more into reading fics than ever so here’s some fics I’ve read after my break that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed:
Delicate by FallingLikeThis:
Summary: They say opposites attract.
Maybe that’s why nerdy, shy Harry Styles has such a huge crush on rough, brash Louis Tomlinson.
And now, he's stuck in a lift with him.
Word count: 1,492
2,870 Miles by SadaVeniren:
Summary: Harry hated the BT Sports commentators, but considering he couldn’t fly to Baku while eight months pregnant this was all he had if he wanted to watch his husband in the Europa League final.
Word count: 1,508
Moon Dances Over by LadyLondonderry:
Summary: Louis knows that his tail is, frankly, stunning. His iridescent blue scales shimmer in even the slightest sunlight, and his fins have grown since he presented, delicate and almost transparent in their webbing.
He also knows that that means he’ll be one of the first to pick tonight, as the most beautiful omegas are blessed to pick their mates first. It’s considered a huge honour, since the guppies they’ll eventually birth will certainly be beautiful as well, bringing favour on the whole clan.
Louis has a stubborn streak, though. He’s always been rather a fan of mating for love, and there’s someone he’s had his eye on for a long time now.
Word count: 1,982
On the edge of the next nine years by forreveries:
Summary: In which Harry and Louis come out at the Met Gala.
Word count: 2,503
Public Display of Erection by dinosaursmate:
Summary: Louis has moved into his new flat and is surprised by what he witnesses out of his window.
Word count: 2,283
White Stripes by allwaswell16:
Summary: Harry’s roommate is gorgeous, kind, generous, and basically everything Harry has ever wanted in another alpha. The only problem is that he isn’t even sure that his alpha roommate is into other alphas. In an effort to finally get over him, he lets Niall set him up on a blind date.
Word count: 3,148
or are you giving it to someone else by louistomlinsons:
Summary: or, louis hears his neighbor having loud sex through the walls and it's not a problem until it is
Word count: 3,337
Understanding Silences by Jennifer_Kaid:
Summary: Staring at the black swirling ink was something everyone did, fantasizing the voice speaking those words, picturing the scenario that would lead them to find their soulmate. Harry did that too, only, he wondered why would those be his soulmate's first words. It was not a light curiosity, it was big question in his life.
Word count: 3,486
tiny exaggeration by jaerie:
Summary: Louis is frustrated that they've been dating for months and still haven't taken their relationship to the next level. Sometimes the foolishness of the past lingers in the present. Louis wants that to change.
Word count: 3,812
Roll the Dice by allwaswell16:
Summary: Louis has been in love with Harry since they were eighteen. It isn't until Harry's thirtieth birthday in Las Vegas that Louis must finally decide to either tell Harry how he feels or let him marry someone else.
Word count: 3,870
getting high in mine by bottomlinsons:
Summary: Getting home from a festival is miserable by any method, but a three-hour train ride is truly the bottom of the barrel.
This time, though, with the help of the cute guy sitting on the floor, it might not be so bad.
Word count: 3,951
Nothing Can Come Between by HamPalpert:
Summary: Louis comes over for film night, and Harry keeps his hands to himself. Literally. But what's supposed to be a secret self-love session quickly spirals out of control.
Word count: 4,121
take on me by bottomlinsons:
Summary: Louis is an assassin. Normally, he's a very good assassin. This hasn't happened to him before.
Word count: 4,155
hard for me to know i might see you around by coffeelouis (silverspoonharry):
Summary: [or, a TINDER AU where Harry swipes left on Louis' joke of a profile, then ends up stuck next to him on a trans-Atlantic flight.]
Word count: 4,204
Home Remedies by kingsofeverything (FullOnLarrie):
Summary: Louis’ hiccups just won’t stop. Harry, his roommate and best friend, is willing to do anything to help.
Word count: 4,230
Finally Their Time by lightswoodmagic (sarah_writes):
Summary: (Or, Harry and Louis attend the Met Gala together, and suddenly the whole world knows)
Word count: 4,230
Stealing Flowers by lululawrence:
Summary: Or the one where Louis pines after the Sexy Stranger on the Subway and almost asks him out. That's when the strange posters start showing up around Brooklyn.
Word count: 4,287
to be a king beside you somehow by nauticalleeds (metamorphosis):
Summary: Or, Harry and Louis come out at the 2019 Met Gala. It's not supposed to be easy. Somehow, it is.
Word count; 4,723
bloom! by turnyourankle:
Summary: Harry is a florist, and Louis is the very taken repeat customer he can't get out of his head.
Word count: 4,835
My love, he makes me feel like nobody else, nobody else by SilverShadow1:
Summary: The one where Harry screams, 'Daddy!' at a party and what follows is the best night of his life.
Word count: 4,963
Whisk me off my feet by allwaswell16:
Summary: When Louis locks himself out of his apartment in just a pair of novelty underwear, he hopes his new neighbor can come to his rescue.
Word count: 5,054
Thumbing My Way Back to You by 13ways:
Summary: Louis is on his way back to London after the Hits Live Birmingham concert. Harry is flying to New York for the Met Gala. They connect.
Word count: 5,286
I’ll Show You Magic by kingsofeverything (FullOnLarrie):
Summary: Louis didn’t mean to go home with a Muggle, and he didn’t mean to sneak out of his flat in the morning. He definitely didn’t mean to wind up in that same flat a month later, attempting to steal a magical object before the Muggle gets home.
Word count: 5,330
Hey, Mr. DJ by allwaswell16:
Summary: Harry really, really does NOT want to go out to a club tonight and be hassled by a bunch of alpha knotheads, but against his better judgement, he finds himself alone on the dance floor, barefoot, with an orange in his hand. This is all Niall's fault. At least the DJ is the most strikingly gorgeous alpha he's ever seen...
Word count: 5,513
wild love twisting all over for you by angelichl:
Summary: Harry and Louis meet on the set of a video.
Word count: 6,067
Easier by allwaswell16:
Summary: The last person Louis wants to see is his ex-boyfriend who also happens to be his soulmate.
Word count: 6,148

Louis isn’t doing this for him.
Word count: 6,327

Summary: Where Louis is Spider-Man, Harry is oblivious, Liam has a problem with communicating his feelings, Zayn is frustratingly handsome and Niall has a pet turtle.
Word count: 6,478
Stay forever by allwaswell16:
Summary: For the last year and a half, Harry has spent his coffee break at the same cafe every day, not because he loves their coffee, but rather because of the gorgeous omega behind the counter making the coffees. As a beta, he’s sure he doesn’t stand a chance with him, so he goes online to find as close a substitute as possible.
Word count: 6,481
Graphic design is my passion by kingsofeverything (FullOnLarrie):
Summary: Graphic design student Louis Tomlinson has exams to study for and final art projects to complete, if it would stop raining long enough for him to walk across campus. Luckily Harry Styles has an umbrella, and he’s perfectly willing to share.
Louis doesn’t plan to get his heart broken and he doesn’t plan to make almost a hundred silicone dildos. One of these things definitely happens.
Word count: 6,482
'Sup by MediaWhore:
Summary: Gemma really wants her little brother to sign up for a dating app and get back in the game after a messy divorce. Harry thinks he’s way too old to swipe. They compromise to devastatingly embarrassing results.
Meanwhile, all Louis wants is to finish the play he’s been commissioned to write, but one of the regulars at his local coffee shop keeps distracting him.

Summary: “He wasn’t good enough for you anyway, H,” Louis says and continues eating. Harry’s still reeling from the fact that Louis is jealous. Part of him wants to prove that Louis has nothing to be jealous about, that Harry is fully Louis’ and no one else’s. The other part wants to punish Louis for acting spoiled. But Harry can’t act on either urge, he tightens his hand into a fist in his lap instead.
“No, he wasn’t. He didn’t quite fit the job.”

Why the idea of alien life now seems inevitable and possibly imminent
by Cathal D. O'Connell
Tumblr media
Relative sizes of planets that are in a zone potentially compatible with life: Kepler-22b, Kepler-69c, Kepler-62e, Kepler-62f and Earth (named left to right; except for Earth, these are artists’ renditions). NASA, CC BY
This article is an edited extract from an essay, The search for ET, in The New Disruptors, the 64th edition of Griffith Review.
Extraterrestrial life, that familiar science-fiction trope, that kitschy fantasy, that CGI nightmare, has become a matter of serious discussion, a “risk factor”, a “scenario”.
How has ET gone from sci-fi fairytale to a serious scientific endeavour modelled by macroeconomists, funded by fiscal conservatives and discussed by theologians?
Because, following a string of remarkable discoveries over the past two decades, the idea of alien life is not as far-fetched as it used to seem.
Discovery now seems inevitable and possibly imminent.
It’s just chemistry
While life is a special kind of complex chemistry, the elements involved are nothing special: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and so on are among the most abundant elements in the universe. Complex organic chemistry is surprisingly common.
Amino acids, just like those that make up every protein in our bodies, have been found in the tails of comets. There are other organic compounds in Martian soil.
And 6,500 light years away a giant cloud of space alcohol floats among the stars.
Habitable planets seem to be common too. The first planet beyond our Solar System was discovered in 1995. Since then astronomers have catalogued thousands.
Based on this catalogue, astronomers from the University of California, Berkeley worked out there could be as many as 40 billion Earth-sized exoplanets in the so-called “habitable zone” around their star, where temperatures are mild enough for liquid water to exist on the surface.
There’s even a potentially Earth-like world orbiting our nearest neighbouring star, Proxima Centauri. At just four light years away, that system might be close enough for us to reach using current technology. With the Breakthrough Starshot project launched by Stephen Hawking in 2016, plans for this are already afoot.
Life is robust
It seems inevitable other life is out there, especially considering that life appeared on Earth so soon after the planet was formed.
The oldest fossils ever found here are 3.5 billion years old, while clues in our DNA suggest life could have started as far back as 4 billion years ago, just when giant asteroids stopped crashing into the surface.
Our planet was inhabited as soon as it was habitable and the definition of “habitable” has proven to be a rather flexible concept too.
Life survives in all manner of environments that seem hellish to us:
floating on a lake of sulphuric acid
inside barrels of nuclear waste
in water superheated to 122 degrees
in the wastelands of Antarctica
in rocks five kilometres below ground.
Tantalisingly, some of these conditions seem to be duplicated elsewhere in the Solar System.
Snippets of promise
Mars was once warm and wet, and was probably a fertile ground for life before the Earth.
Today, Mars still has liquid water underground. One gas strongly associated with life on Earth, methane, has already been found in the Martian atmosphere, and at levels that mysteriously rise and fall with the seasons. (However, the methane result is under debate, with one Mars orbiter recently confirming the methane detection and another detecting nothing.)
Martian bugs might turn up as soon as 2021 when the ExoMars rover Rosalind Franklin will hunt for them with a two-metre drill.
Besides Earth and Mars, at least two other places in our Solar System might be inhabited. Jupiter’s moon Europa and Saturn’s moon Enceladus are both frozen ice worlds, but the gravity of their colossal planets is enough to churn up their insides, melting water to create vast subglacial seas.
In 2017, specialists in sea ice from the University of Tasmania concluded that some Antarctic microbes could feasibly survive on these worlds. Both Europa and Enceladus have undersea hydrothermal vents, just like those on Earth where life may have originated.
When a NASA probe tasted the material geysered into space out of Enceladus last June it found large organic molecules. Possibly there was something living among the spray; the probe just didn’t have the right tools to detect it.
Russian billionaire Yuri Milner has been so enthused by this prospect, he wants to help fund a return mission.
A second genesis?
A discovery, if it came, could turn the world of biology upside down.
All life on Earth is related, descended ultimately from the first living cell to emerge some 4 billion years ago.
Bacteria, fungus, cacti and cockroaches are all our cousins and we all share the same basic molecular machinery: DNA that makes RNA, and RNA that makes protein.
A second sample of life, though, might represent a “second genesis” – totally unrelated to us. Perhaps it would use a different coding system in its DNA. Or it might not have DNA at all, but some other method of passing on genetic information.
By studying a second example of life, we could begin to figure out which parts of the machinery of life are universal, and which are just the particular accidents of our primordial soup.
Perhaps amino acids are always used as essential building blocks, perhaps not.
We might even be able to work out some universal laws of biology, the same way we have for physics – not to mention new angles on the question of the origin of life itself.
A second independent “tree of life” would mean that the rapid appearance of life on Earth was no fluke; life must abound in the universe.
It would greatly increase the chances that, somewhere among those billions of habitable planets in our galaxy, there could be something we could talk to.
Perhaps life is infectious
If, on the other hand, the discovered microbes were indeed related to us that would be a bombshell of a different kind: it would mean life is infectious.
When a large meteorite hits a planet, the impact can splash pulverised rock right out into space, and this rock can then fall onto other planets as meteorites.
Life from Earth has probably already been taken to other planets – perhaps even to the moons of Saturn and Jupiter. Microbes might well survive the trip.
In 1969, Apollo 12 astronauts retrieved an old probe that had sat on the Moon for three years in extreme cold and vacuum – there were viable bacteria still inside.
As Mars was probably habitable before Earth, it’s possible life originated there before hitchhiking on a space rock to here. Perhaps we’re all Martians.
Even if we never find other life in our Solar System, we might still detect it on any one of thousands of known exoplanets.
It is already possible to look at starlight filtered through an exoplanet and tell something about the composition of its atmosphere; an abundance of oxygen could be a telltale sign of life.
A testable hypothesis
The James Webb Space Telescope, planned for a 2021 launch, will be able to take these measurements for some of the Earth-like worlds already discovered.
Just a few years later will come space-based telescopes that will take pictures of these planets directly.
Using a trick a bit like the sun visor in your car, planet-snapping telescopes will be paired with giant parasols called starshades that will fly in tandem 50,000 kilometres away in just the right spot to block the blinding light of the star, allowing the faint speck of a planet to be captured.
The colour and the variability of that point of light could tell us the length of the planet’s day, whether it has seasons, whether it has clouds, whether it has oceans, possibly even the colour of its plants.
The ancient question “Are we alone?” has graduated from being a philosophical musing to a testable hypothesis. We should be prepared for an answer.

Fernando Torres should be remembered as a Liverpool legend – at Anfield he was Europe’s best
April 8, 2008. A ferocious Champions League quarter-final at Anfield between Liverpool and Arsenal was ebbing and flowing, as it reached the 69th minute.
This might have been the last eight of Europe's top competition but it was being played with no-holds barred intensity of a Premier League collision.
The score was poised at 1-1 (2-2 on aggregate) when a Peter Crouch flick-on arrived at the feet of Liverpool's number nine in the Kop End penalty area.
Fernando Torres seared into the hearts and minds of Liverpool fans with breathtaking goals
Torres scored a vital goal as Liverpool beat Arsenal in the 2008 Champions League quarters
TORRES 'CAREER GOALS:
A tletico Madrid – 111
Liverpool – 81
Chelsea – 45
AC Milan – 1
Spain – 60
Suddenly, it felt like time had stood still. Fernando Torres, a picture of calm in the mayhem, took one touch, then another and another.
Before everyone realized what was happening, he had rifled a right-footed drive into the roof of Manuel Almunia's net to spark a noise that made the stage shake.
The goal was easily recalled without the need to watch it on YouTube. The best of the best separate themselves by doing things on a football pitch that is sear into your memory and during a golden spell on Merseyside that is what Torres was: the best of the best.
It was a dream start for Torres, who scored a sublime goal on his Anfield debut vs Chelsea
He was the most feared central striker in Europe when he played for Liverpool. This observer has chosen that Arsenal goal as a personal favorite, but in truth, there were another 10 or 15 instances that could have been used as examples.
There was the debut strike at Anfield, for instance, when he wrapped Chelsea defender Tal Ben-Haim up in club before finishing like an assassin. The muggings of Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford and Rio Ferdinand at Anfield; goals to settle Merseyside derbies, an astonishing strike against Blackburn.
Torres was the first signing that Liverpool made when you felt they were moving into a different level: here was a player everyone in Europe wanted but Rafa Benitez won the day, shattering the club record transfer fee, to sign him from Atletico Madrid for more than £ 20million.
His career, or course, was more than just those years at Anfield. He is loved unconditionally by Atletico supporters following his two spells there; he played for Chelsea and won a raft of honors, including the Champions League, but the fit was never the same. Blue was never his color.
Red, by contrast, suited him down to the ground. The first test for him – as it was for any new signing – came in training. Xabi Alonso, for example, endeared himself immediately to his team mates in 2004 with the way the first pass he swept away, clean and precise.
The Spaniard famously had many iconic duels with Nemanja Vidic and often came out on top
TORRES 'TROPHY CABINET:
World Cup – 2010
European Championship – 2008, 2012
Champions League – 2011-12
Europa League – 2012-13, 2017-18
FA Cup – 2011-12
With Torres, a coming together with Jamie Carragher that set the benchmark. During a training game, the pair went up for a header. Torres thundered into Carragher and put the defender on the floor. Rather than picking Carragher up to assess the damage, Torres carried on. Carragher loved it.
"Here was a winner," Carragher remarked. 'Here was someone who wanted to go to war for us. I thought it was brilliant. "
That first year was incredible. He broke records, became an icon and finished the campaign by scoring the goal – a beautiful dinked finish – in Vienna that made Spain European Champions; six months later, he finished third in the Ballon d'Or voting. Lionel Messi was first. Cristiano Ronaldo was second. This was the company he was keeping.
Critics used to say he couldn't use his left foot but Torres didn't need to when his right-foot was so good. He was quick, he was slick and 'the lad from sunny Spain', as the Kop sang, would get the ball and score again and again. He looked like someone who was destined to rewrite record books.
The problem was, though, injuries slowed him down and the turbulence that erupted around Anfield as the disastrous Thomas Hicks and George Gillett reign disintegrated left him disenchanted.
Torres formed a telepathic and unstoppable partnership with Steven Gerrard on Merseyside
The two then became rivals as Torres broke the hearts of Liverpool fans and joined Chelsea
It was a travesty that Torres never won a medal at Anfield. It was something he was desperate to achieve.
"We were not far away from being champions of England and champions of Europe," Torres said in the book Ring of Fire. "But we needed to keep the team. Everything changed when the owners started talking about selling.
'The mindset of the club went in a different direction. Alonso was sold, Mascherano was sold, Benítez went too. Not all of the money went into new players. The club was saying "We still want to be the best and we want to win" but doing the opposite. "
Torres is a private individual and during the final chapter at Anfield, it became more and more withdrawn.
Fenway Sports Group took over elsewhere in time in October 2010 and three months later he was at Stamford Bridge, sold for £ 50million.
Torres left Liverpool just as Luis Suarez signed, meaning the two never got to play together
The 35 -year-old will probably go down in history as one of Atletico Madrid's greatest ever players
The animosity between Liverpool and Chelsea meant, in the eyes of many fans, he had performed some kind of betrayal and views of him were colored accordingly. He was mad every time he returned to Merseyside and it was all so very sad. Be in no doubt how much it hurt.
His career has come to an end and you wonder whether there will be a point in the future when Torres comes back to play for Liverpool's legends. He should do. Torres, at a peak that didn't last as long as it should have done, was one of the best The Kop had seen.
Like those picture book goals he could score, it should never be forgotten.

Solar System: 10 Things to Know This Week
Every day, our spacecraft and people are exploring the solar system. Both the public and the private sectors are contributing to the quest. For example, here are ten things happening just this week:
1. We deliver.
Tumblr media
The commercial space company Orbital ATK is targeting Saturday, Nov. 11 for the launch of its Cygnus spacecraft on an Antares rocket from Wallops Flight Facility in Wallops Island, Virginia. Cygnus is launching on a resupply mission to the International Space Station, carrying cargo and scientific experiments to the six people currently living on the microgravity laboratory.
2. See for yourself.
Tumblr media
Social media users are invited to register to attend another launch in person, this one of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Dragon spacecraft from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. This launch, currently targeted for no earlier than December, will be the next commercial cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station. The deadline to apply is Nov. 7. Apply HERE.
3. Who doesn't like to gaze at the Moon?
Tumblr media
Our Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) sure does—and from very close range. This robotic spacecraft has been orbiting Earth's companion since 2009, returning views of the lunar surface that are so sharp they show the footpaths made by Apollo astronauts. Learn more about LRO and the entire history of lunar exploration at NASA's newly-updated, expanded Moon site: moon.nasa.gov
4. Meanwhile at Mars...
Tumblr media
Another sharp-eyed robotic spacecraft has just delivered a fresh batch of equally detailed images. Our Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) surveys the Red Planet's surface daily, and you can see the very latest pictures of those exotic landscapes HERE. We currently operate five—count 'em, five—active missions at Mars, with another (the InSight lander) launching next year. Track them all at: mars.nasa.gov.
5. Always curious.
Tumblr media
One of those missions is the Curiosity rover. It's currently climbing a rocky highland dubbed Vera Rubin Ridge, turning its full array of instruments on the intriguing geology there. Using those instruments, Curiosity can see things you and I can't.
6. A new Dawn.
Tumblr media
Our voyage to the asteroid belt has a new lease on life. The Dawn spacecraft recently received a mission extension to continue exploring the dwarf planet Ceres. This is exciting because minerals containing water are widespread on Ceres, suggesting it may have had a global ocean in the past. What became of that ocean? Could Ceres still have liquid today? Ongoing studies from Dawn could shed light on these questions.
7. There are eyes everywhere.
Tumblr media
When our Mars Pathfinder touched down in 1997, it had five cameras: two on a mast that popped up from the lander, and three on the rover, Sojourner. Since then, photo sensors that were improved by the space program have shrunk in size, increased in quality and are now carried in every cellphone. That same evolution has returned to space. Our Mars 2020 mission will have more "eyes" than any rover before it: a grand total of 23, to create sweeping panoramas, reveal obstacles, study the atmosphere, and assist science instruments.
8. Voyage to a hidden ocean.
Tumblr media
One of the most intriguing destinations in the solar system is Jupiter's moon Europa, which hides a global ocean of liquid water beneath its icy shell. Our Europa Clipper mission sets sail in the 2020s to take a closer look than we've ever had before. You can explore Europa, too: europa.nasa.gov
9. Flight of the mockingbird.
Tumblr media
On Nov. 10, the main belt asteroid 19482 Harperlee, named for the legendary author of To Kill a Mockingbird, makes its closest approach to Earth during the asteroid's orbit around the Sun. Details HERE. Learn more about asteroids HERE. Meanwhile, our OSIRIS-REx mission is now cruising toward another tiny, rocky world called Bennu.
10. What else is up this month?
youtube
For sky watchers, there will be a pre-dawn pairing of Jupiter and Venus, the Moon will shine near some star clusters, and there will be meteor activity all month long. Catch our monthly video blog for stargazers HERE.
Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space: http://nasa.tumblr.com.

Prompt 2: Alan and Snow
————————————————
Title: The Chill That Can Touch A Warm Heart
————————————————
Sometimes, just sometimes, Tracy Island is just too hot and humid to do the most basic of actions as the heavy air made one feel gross.
Other times, deep space is just too cold and boring making one go slightly insane.
So Alan knew, when waking up to another day, he had probably drawn the short straw. Would it be a feeling gross day or a slightly insane day?
However, there are days that no matter how much action he doesn’t see, how much rescuing he doesn’t do, Alan savours every waking moment: The snow missions.
The sun combating the white cold sheet draped over every mountain and rolled across the horizon is a sight he believes is the most beautiful. Well, except for seeing a planet from orbit that is, but snow comes very close! Speaking of space, Alan is primarily the astronaut of International Rescue, he doesn’t get to go on missions to Mount Everest or the Southern Alps; that goes to Scott and Virgil, and Gordon if it’s serious. So it’s the days where the missions are super duper, really, incredibly serious that Alan is needed for a snow mission; his favourite kind of day.
————————————————
Days such as Tibet’s December 2058 avalanche that buried a helplessly small village more than 6 feet under snow are those incredibly serious snow missions. All communications and scanners were lost from the earthquake beforehand and it was the boys’ jobs to dig survivors out of the snow. This avalanche was Alan’s first snow mission, probably his brothers’ thousandth time (totally not exaggerating) and he kept his excitement under subtle smiles of joy.
During the trip half way across the world, Alan pictured stepping out of Thunderbird 2 into Tibet. He had a strong belief that the cold was going to hit him like the way Thunderbird 3 experiences the temperature drop during launch breaching atmosphere. After all, space and snow had record temperatures under absolute zero. It would be a refreshing change from island weather, or endless stars light years away, and he was ready.
As Alan stepped out of Thunderbird 2 just outside the subdued village, he was in shock: snow was warm, warmer than space. This was either because he was restless with excitement during Thunderbird 2’s flight, or that his uniform mesh was twice as thick as his brothers to balance his body temperature in deep space, or both! He was calm and unnerved by the paper-like qualities of the snow: thin sheet, loud when tampered with and pure white that it almost hurt the eyes. If Europa didn’t hold alien life, then Jupiter’s coldest moon had nothing to play against Tibet’s picturesque snow.
Even Gordon shivered violently after he fell into a 2 feet deep hole the avalanche had covered, a clever trap Mother Nature laid for hunting these rescuers. They all fell into these frozen pits sometime or another, but Alan’s body felt no need to shiver. This feeling of dropping into the cold matter would become useful to help dig out the men, women and children succumbed to the collective particles of ice. Scott sped the digging process up another way; using Thunderbird 1’s retro-burners to melt the snow. Alan was amazed by the way the snow turned from something so strong and chilling in numbers, to a bubbling warm liquid mess in mere seconds. Ice and snow were stone-cold strong but also fragile like a glass window: astounding, Alan could say the least. Thanks to Thunderbird 1, Alan was able to firmly set his feet on the roofs of the first couple houses; hearing the cries of an alive family underneath.
The rescue was a success, as per usual, no deaths but some medium cases of hypothermia which called for some extra blankets or an hour in the Thunderbird 2’s heat bed. Thunderbird 2 managed to transport the small village into the safety of Tibet’s Capital City, Lhasa, where all 75 villagers would be able to seek refuge. A good rescue Alan would never forget, not only because of the faces of joy the villagers wore when Alan found them, but because he finally experienced snow for himself. It was so close to drawing with the views from orbit, so close.
————————————————
Alan loved that first snow mission, that memory. The other few snow missions Alan’s had haven’t exactly embodied that same feeling, that same experience, he had in Tibet. But now, he was stuck with a scorching hot December day on the island. No iced water, swimming or shade could cool him down. All Alan wanted to do was jump out of Thunderbird 1 into Antartica as a counter attack to the equator’s summer. But it was not meant to be, as Thunderbird 1 was busy saving a group of rock climbers in Australia.
The boiling summer days turned into humid summer nights where Alan’s family was too tired to talk because it was the most hectic time of the year, Christmas rescues. Gordon was asleep before he hit the reindeer pillow. Virgil could do was space out to the Christmas tree lights, just in case there was another rescue. Scott groaned from his sore muscles as he tried to fill out remaining paper work at Dad’s desk decorated with red, gold and green tinsel. Even John cut communications for the night because he just wanted some peace and quiet. Alan had been quiet all day, now he was bored of the peace.
But there was always Brains to talk to, he was always upgrading MAX when he had the time. And Alan was right, down the main hangar Brains was upgrading MAX’s coffee machine.
“How about I taste test?” Alan asked, seeing Brains’ hands shake uncontrollably.
“T-t-t-t-that w-would be g-g-great Alan, t-t-t-thanks. F-f-f-four cups i-i-i-i-is enough c-c-caffeine for m-m-m-me.” Brains answered, stuttering way more than usual.
Brains really knew how to code a good coffee and MAX was looking like he needed a double shot himself. Seeing the milk swirl around on top of the liquified coffee beans reminded Alan of melting snow revealing the real ground underneath. Then with a little mix, the snowy white milk blended and disappeared. A sad thought but it gave Alan an idea.
“Hey Brains, any way you could build some machine to make it snow on the island?” He queried.
“A-a-a-alan, are you serious?” Brains replied, “The heat of the sun would make the ice melt in minutes.”
“So… would it be possible at night?” Alan asked again.
“W-Well, the h-h-humidity would m-make it melt much s-slower; So y-yes it would be p-possible.” Brains answered, the caffeine’s effects starting to wear away, back to his normal stuttering self.
“So, you can make a snow machine!” Alan exclaimed.
“Y-yes but w-why would we ever need o-one?” Brains questioned him.
“Well… it’s festive. Christmas always has snow, Grandma Tracy likes to go the extra mile with decorations. Christmas is her favourite holiday after all. And besides, snow is cool; literally.”
“I-I’ll see what I can d-do without creating c-complications to any ships l-launch.”
Alan smiled from ear to ear. “You’re the best Brains! Grandma’s gonna love it,” then he walked off back to his room for a good nights sleep. “And I will too.” He thought.
The next day went like clockwork; Alan failed to stay cool and was only needed once for a mission in orbit (some ship was flying out of orbit and needed to be dragged back, no biggie). The next night, the boys crashed on the couches and were ready to get some shut-eye -until Brains ruined their plans with a remote in hand.
“G-Gentlemen, Grandma Tracy and K-Kayo, Alan gave me a r-request last night for a final t-touch to our Christmas d-decorations that will certainly l-l-lighten your mood.” Brains declared from atop the lounging area. Alan’s eye lit up and focused intently on Brains.
“Brains, if it’s more fancy lights around the island, can it wait until after we get some rest?” Scott cried out.
“N-Not at all Scott, Alan has c-challenged me to do the i-impossible and I s-s-succeeded.” Brains replied. Virgil and Gordon stood up with their groaning joints and walked over to Brains.
“Overcoming the impossible is what you do best, Brains.” Virgil told him.
“So this is going to be very interesting.” Gordon finished.
“So stop stalling and show us the new decoration!” Grandma Tracy passionately ordered. Glancing in Alan’s direction with a smile on his face, Brains pushed the button. A whirring sound was heard high up into the island, but moments later the magic began.
White specks began to fall onto the roof of the villa, the leaves of the palm trees and the balcony of the lounge. All had their own unique design and chilling to the touch. Alan wanted to be the first outside with his close-first favourite particles of ice, but Grandma Tracy bet him to it. He wasn’t mad about it though, this was the happiest he had seen her.
“Oh I’ve missed this! I haven’t seen snow since... since... oh I don’t know when but that doesn’t matter.” She told her family with laughter to follow. The rest of her family joined her as the snowflakes made their hair white and the rest piling into little ant-hill sizes of soft slowly melting snow.
“Congratulations Brains, you’ve done it again.” Grandma Tracy acknowledged.
“D-don’t thank me, t-thank Alan for a-asking me t-to build this f-f-for you.” Brains replied. In a blink of an eye, Grandma Tracy’s arms were lovingly squeezing the life out of Alan. A few seconds later, and a bit of wheezing from the youngest, Grandma Tracy spared him.
“Thank you Alan, I’ve missed snow so much. You don’t know how much this means to me.” Grandma explained, obviously holding back a sob. Alan looked up to the starry sky now speckled with even more shining white stars that covered any trace of his own tears. He wanted to create snow for himself, using his Grandma as an excuse. But now she was overjoyed with the greatest present he incidentally gave to her.
Seeing her smile like a little kid as the snowflakes decorated her body made snow and space tie for second.
“Trust me, I’ve missed snow too. Merry Christmas Grandma.”

Arsenal’s stress is just beginning as Aubameyang, Saka, Lacazette need new deals
LONDON — The announcement that Arsenal had agreed a 12.5% pay cut with their playing staff initially appeared to be a victory for everyone involved. Here was an example of a group of highly paid and much-storied footballers, routinely maligned for existing in a bubble of exorbitant wealth, recognising the reality of the world and making an economic sacrifice for the greater good during exceptional times.
In doing so, the Gunners became the first Premier League club to confirm a salary reduction as opposed to a deferral, setting an example to others by demonstrating both the severity of the financial damage this coronavirus pandemic will likely inflict and an admirable collective willingness to face that challenge. By saving a maximum of around £20 million over the next 12 months — their salaries are repaid in full if they qualify for the Champions League, or 7.5% is returned upon reaching the Europa League — the reduction meant that the club’s non-playing staff were less likely to be furloughed.

And yet, the negotiations also shone a light on the internal tensions in the Arsenal squad that pose one of the biggest sporting tests to head coach Mikel Arteta as he rebuilds this team.
Contract negotiations have long been an issue for the Gunners. It’s why the club sought to bring additional expertise on board, including former Team Sky lawyer Huss Fahmy and Raul Sanllehi from Barcelona. Yet despite the goal of injecting greater diligence and ruthlessness into their operations, the Gunners conducted their pay-cut conversations against a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding the futures of several influential players.
Arsenal have been in a rebuilding pattern since Arsene Wenger left in 2018 but it seems like the same problems with keeping top players and successfully renegotiating contract extensions await them when football resumes. Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images
Upon taking the helm after chief executive Ivan Gazidis’ departure for AC Milan at the end of 2018, Arsenal head of football Sanllehi and managing director Vinai Venkatesham underlined how they wanted to establish fresh business practices following the end of Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign and a large-scale restructuring. “Internally, we are calling this period ‘The New Chapter,’ which I think says a lot,” Sanllehi claimed in November 2018. That sea change had multiple components, chief among them a need to improve the club’s methodology around contract negotiations, with the Gunners having lost an array of talent on unfavourable terms. In 2019, Aaron Ramsey joined a painfully long list at the end of last season after the club withdrew a longstanding offer to end what they privately vowed would be the last stalemate of its kind.
2 Related
“You should try to always avoid going into the last year of a contract for many different reasons, from the club’s side and also for the player,” Sanllehi said. “We will try to get clarity earlier.”
Yet a cloudy picture persists, and more than a year later, that search for clarity continues. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette are among a number of players facing uncertain futures, amid the metaphorical clock ticking and growing speculation over exactly the sort of cut-price departure Arsenal wanted to avoid. Aubameyang and Saka are out of contract in 2021, Lacazette in 2022.
– Sources: Ozil facing uncertain future as contract talks stall – Laurens: Inside Arsenal players’ pay cut negotiations
A partial explanation for the delay in tying players down can be found in the upheaval caused by Unai Emery’s departure in November. The Spaniard’s tenure unravelled to an alarming extent, but the club were so reluctant to sack him that there was no immediate replacement lined up. The club opted to give club legend and assistant first-team coach Freddie Ljungberg a chance to prove himself. The Swede had an excellent relationship with Arsenal’s young players from his work as U-23 manager but failed to address the tactical issues that contributed to Emery’s departure. Having held an interest in Arteta when Wenger departed, the Gunners opted to appoint the Spaniard in mid-December.
But as the coronavirus spread across the globe, causing mass disruption to daily life and presenting unprecedented challenges, discussions inside the club turned to cash flow and Arsenal found themselves in the awkward position of having to simultaneously present competing arguments to certain players. The spirit of those conversations was awkward: We need you to take a pay cut to safeguard the club’s future, but also believe us when we say we’re in a position to compete for trophies in future … so why not sign a new long-term contract?
Tumblr media
• When does the transfer window reopen? • Karlsen: Possible coronavirus impact • Best ever transfers: 100-51 | 50-1 • This summer’s top free agents • January transfer grades • Latest completed major transfers
The most obvious example of a player caught at the crossroads is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who will have one year remaining on his existing contract whenever the current season ends. The striker turns 31 in June and his next contract will probably be the last big deal of his topflight career. He’s in a strong negotiating position, having shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane last season before backing that up with 17 goals this term, second in the standings behind Leicester’s Jamie Vardy.
Aubameyang’s haul is especially impressive given the team’s broader struggles under Emery. The Gunners’ all-time record goal scorer, Thierry Henry, echoed the sentiments of many supporters when reflecting in December: “Without the goals of Aubameyang I don’t know where we would have been right now.”
No other Arsenal player is in double figures, with Lacazette next best on seven league goals and Nicolas Pepe with four. To underline Aubameyang’s talismanic effect on the squad, Aubameyang was given the captain’s armband when Granit Xhaka was demoted following an altercation with supporters. The striker used his programme notes in January to scotch rumours of a possible departure, adding: “I am committed to it and desperate to bring it back to the top, where it belongs.”
However, there are some senior figures at the club who, while welcoming that public show of loyalty, would have liked to have seen a stronger indication from Aubameyang that he is ready to sign a new deal. Talks have been delayed as a result of the coronavirus, but already it was understood that Aubameyang’s position involved waiting to see whether the club qualified for the Champions League and how well-placed they were to fight for silverware during the theoretical apotheosis of his career.
All of which is difficult to square with Arsenal being the only club to take a pay cut — and one lasting 12 months at that, rather than the three- or four-month deferrals reported at other clubs. Aubameyang’s future is undecided, but other clubs including Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter Milan sense an opportunity he could be tempted away.
Aubameyang’s future feels most precarious at Arsenal given both the leverage he has as the club’s top scorer and the fact that he has only a year remaining on his deal. David Price/Arsenal FC via Getty Images
Saka is at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of age and influence, but finds himself pondering a similar dilemma. The 19-year-old has been one of Arsenal’s success stories this season, breaking into the first team with maturity, consistency and quality — form made all the more remarkable by his doing so largely while playing out of position at left-back rather than in his preferred guise as a winger.
Like Aubameyang, Saka will have one year left on his deal, and with just 26 first-team appearances under his belt, he already has attracted interest from a host of clubs including Borussia Dortmund in addition to being namechecked for a future international call-up by England head coach Gareth Southgate. He joined Arsenal at the age of 9 and is deeply fond of the club, but rivals will make a compelling case that they’re better positioned to aid his development.
Saka earns a fraction of Aubameyang’s £200,000-a-week wage and would therefore feel the pinch more acutely over the next year, but this isn’t about the money as much as it is ambition.

Gab Marcotti explains why Premier League clubs are hesitant to resume the season.
Arsenal undoubtedly need considerable investment to help them compete again for the Premier League and Champions League. Sanllehi and Venkatesham are engaging characters with the club’s best interests at heart, but do they have the resources to create the conditions for the Gunners to challenge? And if not, will owner Stan Kroenke buck a trend and invest to help bridge the gap?
These are the types of issues Mesut Ozil felt did not get satisfactory answers before declining to join his teammates in taking a pay cut. Talks are ongoing with Ozil and at least two other players, who are all open to finding a solution, but no agreement is close.
Ozil’s £350,000-a-week contract has been a financial strain on the club and often hard to justify, particularly when the midfielder was frozen out under Emery. Rather than that figure hailing the dawn of a new era in which the club could rival the biggest salaries around, it remains an outlier in the first-team squad to this day. Other players have referenced it as a benchmark in negotiations. Arsenal have not played a Champions League match since Ozil signed that deal in January 2018, and a lack of income from Europe’s premier competition has compromised any chance of offering other players a similar wage.
Tumblr media
Dan Thomas is joined by Craig Burley, Shaka Hislop and a host of other guests every day as football plots a path through the coronavirus crisis. Stream on ESPN+ (U.S. only).
It’s perhaps little surprise Ozil has yet to be offered any sort of extension, even one on reduced terms. The German midfielder was free to leave last summer, but no club could match his salary. Although he never agitated for a move and has enjoyed a revival under Arteta, it feels as though both Arsenal and Ozil have reached a point where their association is no longer mutually beneficial.
After seven years at the club — eight if Ozil sees out his contract to its conclusion — it will be a landmark moment for the Gunners. Those with intimate knowledge of the player insist his motivation in rejecting a pay cut is not financial — he gives away more than £2m per year to charitable causes — but a question of aspiration, aptitude and intent.
Those questions have been asked of Kroenke for a long time prior to the coronavirus pandemic. They will be asked by prospective new signings, too.
Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos all have deals that expire in 2021. The former has been a divisive figure for some time, while the latter pair are believed to have options in their existing agreements to extend by a further year; all will need addressing soon. Lacazette has two years remaining, giving the club a little more insulation against external market forces, but the French striker has not always looked entirely happy in north London and another tough decision over his future sits on the horizon unless there is a change in mood around the club.
Of course, Arsenal are not alone in facing these challenges. Chelsea were in discussions over a 10% cut for their first-team squad but failed to reach an agreement. Tottenham and Liverpool were forced into reversing their decision to furlough non-playing staff and neither have secured a deferral or cut from their players as yet. At the time of writing, Manchester United insist they are not considering reductions or deferrals, but executive vice chairman Ed Woodward claimed last week that the economic impact would affect their ability to compete in the transfer market when football resumes. And if that is true of a financial behemoth like United, the rest of the Premier League really is in trouble.
The lasting effect of the coronavirus on football is a long way from being known, but as clubs adjust to a future not yet fully formed, a familiar issue plagues Arsenal’s path.

The best things about every Champions League matchup
Tumblr media
Also: What is Arsenal going to do now that they’ve sacked Unai Emery?
Hello, and welcome back to another edition of Tactically Naive, SB Nation’s weekly football/soccer/kickball column. This week we have mostly been sobbing quietly in the corner.
THESE ARE THE BEST TEAMS
And this is the best bit of the competition, isn’t it? When the fluff of the group stage is out of the way and we get down to the knockout football. Two legs. Floodlights. One winner, one loser. PSG making a mess on the floor again. A nice chilled pint of delicious Gazprom.
Feel your eyes widen and your brain cool. Don’t fight it. Relax into it. These are the best teams. More Gazprom? There you go. Follow the ball. Back and forth. The same teams, the same games, over and over and over and over … close your eyes. And—
Huh? Oh? Sorry about that, drifted off a bit. Where were we? Ah yes. Today was the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League and — well, you remember how last week it was appalling how the same flippin’ teams get through every time? Turns out those same flippin’ teams getting drawn against one another makes everything okay. Let’s go tie by tie.
Borussia Dortmund vs. Paris Saint-Germain
This is the easiest one to call. Sure, Dortmund have had a fairly chaotic start to the season. But there’s a couple of months to go before the games, so one of two things will have happened: Either they’ll have sorted themselves out, or they’ll have fired Lucien Favre smack in the middle of the new manager bounce. Either way, PSG will be strolling along at the top of Ligue 1, hoping that this is the year they finally turn vast financial power into knockout results.
This is not the year. PSG are going to get humiliated, again, because they are cursed. Dark and ancient forces are arrayed against them, and you can’t spend your way past magic.
The only real question is: if Favre does go, which ex-Dortmund player is the narrative equivalent of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? What’s Karl-Heinz Riedle up to these days?
Real Madrid vs. Manchester City
pic.twitter.com/Hwy5gVGgZ4
— No Context Final Fantasy (@ContextFantasy) December 15, 2019
Atalanta vs. Valencia
As a column, we at Tactically Naive are studiously, carefully neutral: we hate all football teams equally, only slightly less than we hate ourselves. But we might have to make an exception for Atalanta, who are the very picture of a neutral’s favourite. Cute football, plenty of goals, punching way above their weight and enjoying every minute of it. Curse them for making us feel again.
Atletico Madrid vs. Liverpool
Be nice to finally find out the answer to that spear vs. shield, fox vs. hound, unstoppable force vs. immovable object problem, won’t it?
Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich
This is going to be two very good games of football. Frank Lampard, man of the people, has put together a Chelsea side that play some very nice football but absolutely cannot defend, and we’ve already had the ridiculous 4-4 against Ajax and the only slightly less ridiculous 2-2 against Valencia. Against Robert Lewandowski? Might get biblical.
Sadly, the whole occasion will be ruined when Bayern attempt to buy Callum Hudson-Odoi at half-time of the second leg, and a fight breaks out between the sporting directors. Bayern later formally apologise for the actions of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, saying that he “should not have thrown himself elbow-first into Bruce Buck shouting ‘that’s for Drogba in 2012, you [redacted]’.”
Lyon vs. Juventus
Could be a bit one-sided, this. Juventus strolled through their group, while Lyon finished only a point ahead of Benfica and Zenit in Group G. But still, there’s hope. For while there are only a few footballers who we can imagine scoring a winning goal and then pulling out the Ronaldo look-at-me spin celebration, that list includes Lyon’s Memphis Depay. The adorable buffoon.
Tottenham Hotspur vs. RB Leipzig
Honestly, the footballing world cannot lose here. One of two beautiful things is guaranteed to happen. Either Spurs strike a blow for Proper Football by dispatching the cynical advertising construct of Red Bull Leipzig, or Jose Mourinho gets humiliated by a can of fizzy pop.
Napoli vs. Barcelona
It is, perhaps, the nature of Napoli, to bring hope wherever they go. For they are Italy’s greatest club. Not best, which is boring; not most successful, which is accountancy; but greatest, which is dignification made up of equal parts glory, failure, and romance. As such, they exist in this strange world of contradictory possibility. They could do anything. They could do nothing, beautifully. They could do both.
Will they do something against Barca? Probably not. Lionel Messi’s very good. But Napoli got the best of Maradona while Barcelona didn’t, and so they’re already the moral victors. For some rather smudged definition of “moral.”
A new dawn for Arsenal
Arsenal are not in the Champions League. But Arsenal have recently sacked Unai Emery, the most Europa League manager who ever Europa Leagued, so we can be fairly sure they’d quite like to get back to the big time. And it looks like they’ve found their route back: after a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Champions League big-timers Manchester City over the weekend, they’ve decided to appoint the genius behind that drubbing.
Congratulations to the new manager of Arsenal: Pep Guardiola!
[puts finger to ear] Wait, what? Oh. Oh dear.
Congratulations to the new manager of Arsenal: Mikel Arteta?
He hasn’t got the job yet. But the City assistant with the fungible hair has been entertaining Arsenal dignitaries. Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and club lawyer Huss Fahmy were photographed leaving Arteta’s home around 1:20 a.m. Obviously we can’t rule out that they were just caught up in a really intense Settlers of Catan session. But it looks suggestive.
Anyway, Arteta ticks a lot of boxes. First of all, the fact that City walked through Arsenal so easily suggests that their management team had done some decent thinking about Arsenal’s strengths and weaknesses, and how best to counter the former and exploit the latter. Sounds basic, but there were times when you wondered if Emery had ever thought to do the same.
Beyond the pointlessly cruel jokes at the expense of a man who probably tried his best, Arteta has played for Arsenal and has spent a couple of years making notes next to Guardiola. Those are things that might be important. Alternatively, they are things that might be completely meaningless. But those are the things that will get him the job, because honestly there aren’t many other options.
Europe’s biggest clubs are burning through managers faster than European football can produce them. If Arteta gets the job, then three of last season’s Big Six will be in the hands of former players with limited experience. And they’ll all be below Brendan Rodgers in the table. There’s probably a lesson in there somewhere.
Still, if you need a defensive coach, Mikel, don’t worry. Big Sam is here to help.
Sam Allardyce on Arsenal's defence: “I could come and work on Arsenal’s defence and make them better tomorrow, not a problem whatsoever. I’ve done it everywhere I’ve been – Newcastle, Blackburn, Bolton, West Ham Crystal Palace, Everton, I’ve done it all there." pic.twitter.com/SvLTyx5mgq

James Maddison and Jadon Sancho are top of Manchester United’s wishlist
The young English pair are expected to cost upwards of £180million
David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United
Manchester United are monitoring Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali
Europa League ambitions
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot is desperate to get his hands on the Europa League trophy this season.
The Red Devils start their campaign at Old Trafford against Astana on Thursday – and Dalot wants a winning start.
“It’s a big competition, but not as big for this club,” Dalot told the United App. “This club needs to be in the Champions League every day, every year, winning the Champions League and in Portugal it’s a little but different.
“Of course it’s a big competition that if any team wins it’ll be a great achievement, but for this club when we are in it we just need to win it.”

Maddison meltdown
Manchester United fans are pleading with James Maddison to move to the Red Devils after he posted on Instagram with Old Trafford set as the location.
The 22-year-old’s post had no caption attached to it and the picture showed the midfielder playing at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday for Leicester.
All pretty harmless but his post has sent United fans wild, with most pleading for the former Norwich man to follow his ex-team-mate Harry Maguire to Manchester.
One said: “Please force the move fella.” Another wrote: “You’re welcome here whenever.” Someone else went with: “You’ll be posting plenty of photos at Old Trafford next season pal.”
DDG savings?!
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract in a deal which may have saved the Red Devils a huge chunk of cash.
The Spaniard will be earning around £375,000-a-week, making him the club’s highest earner following the loan departure of Alexis Sanchez.
The goalkeeper will now stay at Old Trafford until at least June 2023 on his current contract, which will be worth £97.5m if the option of a fifth year is taken up, including add-ons, according to the Mirror.
United boss Solskjaer may have saved the club £100m in securing De Gea’s future, as he’d need to break the bank to sign a replacement.
United have agreed to spend £97.5m on De Gea’s contract, assuming he stays for the four years of his current deal, and the added one-year extension.

He’s a disgrace
Gary Neville has labelled Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola a “disgrace” and believes the Frenchman is still ager to leave Manchester United.
“Pogba wants to leave. He has made it clear,” Neville told Norwegian TV. “His agent is a disgrace and has been a disgrace all over Europe – not just for Manchester United.
“They must stop working with him. He doesn’t have the values you want in your club. My opinion is that Manchester United need not negotiate with him.
“He will try to fix a transfer for his player, and will try to take part of the transfer sum himself. That’s how he operates.”

Neymar wanted Barca
PSG star Neymar has admitted he wanted to join Barcelona during the transfer window for ‘personal reasons’.
“Everyone knows I wanted to leave,” he said. “I made it very clear. I won’t go into details though, because it affects others.
“But I’m still a PSG player and my intention is to be happy on the pitch. My mind is on PSG.
“I always made it clear that I don’t have anything against PSG or the fans. They were personal reasons. I had my reasons and I tried my best to make it happen, but unfortunately they didn’t let me.”

Christian Eriksen snubs Spurs
Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is prepared to snub any contract offers from the club.
Eriksen, 27, was tipped to leave north London this summer with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all linked at some stage.
The Dane admitted he would like a fresh challenge elsewhere – but the deadline came and went with Eriksen failing to secure a transfer.
Now, Spanish newspaper Marca claim he’ll refuse any late approach from Tottenham to enable him to leave for free in the summer of 2020.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic contract
Lazio are set to tie Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to a new contract.
The Serbia international has been on the radar of multiple European heavyweights including Manchester United and Real Madrid.
But it looks like the 24-year-old will be staying in Italy.
Calciomercato claim Milinkovic-Savic will sign a new five-year deal worth £51k per week.

Wanted: Logan Pye
Arsenal look set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Sunderland teenager Logan Pye.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had been tracking the 15-year-old for some time.
It’s said the Gunners will ‘pounce’ during the next transfer window when Pye turns 16 and is eligible to sign a professional contract.
Pye, who can play centre-half or full-back, has mad five appearances for Sunderland’s Under-18 squad – netting once.

Matic to Juve?
Juventus are keen on bringing Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic to Serie A.
Matic failed to make an appearance under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season until Saturday’s win over Leicester.
But with Paul Pogba to return from injury, the Serbian will likely see his services reduced to bench duty once again.
And according to The Sun, Matic may not have to try his hand at cracking the first XI, as Juventus are in for his signature.
The report states that Matic’s lack of playing time for United has put Juve, who wanted to bring Pogba back to Turn, on alert for the Serb.

James Maddison & Jadon Sancho
James Maddison and Jadon Sancho are top of Manchester United’s wishlist.
That’s according to ESPN FC, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring the pair to Old Trafford next summer.
Maddison, 22, is thought to be valued at £80million by Leicester, while Borussia Dortmund’s Sancho could cost upwards of £100m.

David de Gea pens contract
David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until June 2023.
The deal also includes the option to extend the contract for a further season.
De Gea told United’s official website: “It has been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club and the opportunity to continue my career at Manchester United is a genuine honour.
“Since I arrived here, I could never have imagined I would play over 350 games for this club. Now my future is fixed, all I want is to help this team achieve what I believe we can and win trophies again, together.”
Sandro Tonali – the new Pirlo
Manchester United are monitoring Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Italian publication Calciomercato claim United representatives were in attendance to watch him in action during Brescia’s 4-3 defeat to Bologna on Sunday.
Tonali, who has been compared to Andrea Pirlo by the Italian media, is also being assessed by European heavyweights Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.
“I hope Tonali remains in my hand as long as possible. If he wants to stay in Brescia, I am willing to keep him forever,” said Brescia president Massimo Cellino.
“No one has called me yet for him, but it is logical that everyone likes him”.
