Es Warden Amalgamation AU

Es entered the room, grabbing the stack of tapes from their bedside table before sitting down on their bed. They reached across the narrow room, sliding one into the small black box on their dresser and slipping on their VR headset. Jackalope had supplied the equipment, saying it was to help them decide on their verdicts. Es had never really understood why Jackalope kept referring to them as.. well, “them.” They felt that the pronoun fit them well, but it was still.. strange.

Shaking off thoughts of Jackalope and their own identity, Es slid into bed and clicked the headset on. Their vision collapsed away into a white void. Used to it after a few trips into the headset, they surrendered to the feeling of passing out. When they regained consciousness, they stood in an endless world of sky, water rippling gently under their feet and stretching out around them for miles.

Es raised their hand and swiped at the air to pull up a menu. They scrolled through the first trial music videos, hesitating for a moment before selecting prisoner 09. Mikoto Kayano. His explosive outburst during his last interrogation intrigued Es. They decided to review both of his past MVs, see if there was anything they missed the first time.

When they clicked the button, the world around them began to disintegrate, falling away into nothingness. As they began entering the world of the MV, Es’s vision whited out again. They felt the sensation of falling, then flying, as the simulation shifted around them.

Es’s body materialized in a dark alleyway, standing beside a dumpster. They snapped their fingers, and the MV began to play. Shots of the sky, a bridge, an alley… it took a moment before Milton himself even made an apprarancd.

Mikoto paced forward in the MV, running towards an unsuspecting person before-

CRACK

The bat made contact with the blurry silhouette’s neck, a sickening crunch echoing around the alleyway walls as they collapsed. The minute the bat had snapped the person’s neck, Es had fallen to the ground, unable to pause or exit the MV as their body exploded in excruciating pain. This had never happened during their other watches of Mikoto’s video, why now-

CRACK

Again, Es felt dizzy, trembling as they felt memories rushing back to them, flowing into their mind so fast it felt as if their skull was about to burst.

They were Ayano Kisaragi, a businessman on his way back to see his wife and kids at home-

They were Himeko Kageomori, the owner of a local bakery, headed to distribute her extra stock to the homeless-

CRACK

They were Koi Ouma, a rebellious teenager loitering outside their high school, smoking a cigarette and staring at the stars-

CRACK

The amalgamation of perspectives fell to the floor, clutching its head. It writhed, wracked with pain as its various lifetimes were relived and ended over and over again. Eventually, its cries subsided, leaving only the sound of soft breathing and music blasting all around. The screaming mass of memories subsided, their violent thoughts cooling and solidifying once more.

There was only one, now.

Kneeling on the ground, head pressed to the cold stone.

More than 200 aviators and four B-52 Stratofortresses bombers assigned to the 23º Bomber Squadron, from Minot Air Base, North Dakota, arrived at Andersen Air Base, Guam on June 14 to conduct missions from the Bomber Task Force - or BTF.

BTF deployments and operations support U.S. Indo-Pacific Command missions by integrating strategic bomber capabilities into a joint and coalition environment.

The deployment in Guam has been less than a month since the island was hit by super-tufão Mawar, leading the U.S. Air Force to send its Natural Disaster Recovery Team to Andersen. The base did not report serious injuries or damage to the aircraft, but some facilities were damaged or lost power during the storm. The permanent change of season change to Andersen was interrupted for 60 days to facilitate recovery.

“Being here in the Indo-Pacific with the Bomber Task Force allows our forces to show our ability to unfold anytime, anywhere, in support of the fighting commander's goals,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Loucks, commander of this recent U.S. Air Force BTF. "Training and operating in the priority theater allows us to demonstrate our continued readiness, willingness and commitment to our allies and partners."

This marks the second deployment of B-52s in Guam in three months - four bombers from Barksdale Air Base, Louisiana, arrived on March 30 and returned home at the end of April. During this time, they completed 29 outbreaks while integrating with four allied partners, according to a statement from the Pacific Air Forces.

On the other side of the world, another deployment of the Bomber Task Force is underway in Europe - B-1s from Dyess Air Base, Texas, landed at the Fairford RAF Base, United Kingdom, on May 23 and participated in the Arctic Challenge Exercise and Air Defender 23, as well as a mission in the Middle East.

The B-52s in the Pacific will also be occupied - previous USAF bomber rotations flew over the Korean Peninsula as part of the U.S. commitment to South Korea.

The B-52H Stratofortress, nicknamed BUFF (Big, Ugly, Fat and Fellow), is a long-range, nuclear and conventional heavy bomber that can perform a variety of missions. The B-52H can fly at high subsonic speeds at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet, with a fuel-free combat range of more than 8,800 miles and can carry precision-guided ammunition with precision navigation around the world.

The U.S. maintains a strong and reliable strategic bomber force that increases the security and stability of allies and partners. BTF missions allow crews to maintain a high state of readiness and proficiency and validate the USAF's always-ready global attack capability.

If Seasmoke was a cradle egg then that means he's known Rhaenys his entire life, she might be the first human besides Laenor he ever saw.

Seasmoke in obvious mourning refusing to leave Driftmark and letting Rhaenys be with him because they're the closest each other has to Laenor anymore.

There are two thoughts I have, specific to Rhaenys's mourning, in relation to Seasmoke. Sort of generalised, but hey-ho, I'm saying them now. One is that Rhaenys is the one left behind and faces continual reminders of her son's death and how he died. Corlys is able to sail off. Even if it is to the Stepstones, where he fought with Laenor, he's able to lose himself in that and work through his grief with action and with blood and sweat and tears. If he feels angry about it, he can chop a man's head off and pretend it's whomever he blames for the death (Qarl?). Not an option available to Rhaenys. She has, for her whole life, been stuck to the point of inaction, despite her spirit and nature wanting her to do something different, do something explosive and emotional and without consequence. It’s something that Eve said that really struck me when she spoke about Rhaenys in Episode 09, but that’s a whole other ask about Rhaenys’s character.

When it comes to the death of her children, she is stuck on Driftmark. She resides at Driftmark. She rules Driftmark. I would even go so far as to say she hides at Driftmark, as she has done as a way to protect herself ever since she lost her father. Now it’s something else. It’s a place of two hearts, two hurts. Good memories and bad memories. She sits in a chair she used to hold her babes in, next to the fireplace where her son’s body was dragged from. She sees the dragon that hatched from an egg placed in his cradle, a sad beast who he will never ride again. I expect the sky has never seemed to empty. It’s not only her children that populated it, but their dragons as well. That is helped when Baela comes and flies with her. 

I’m sure Rhaenys is the only person, other than perhaps Dragon-keepers, allowed anywhere near Seasmoke. And from the way Daemon talks about the dragon, it’s not got a formalised nest. It’s not where Meleys is, at High Tide (as I assume we can differentiate, and Driftmark is actually fairly large). We know dragons mourn. Dragons get lonely. How can Rhaenys not identify with Seasmoke?

I’m reminded of what Laena said about Vhagar: The workers at Spicetown report hearing her song at times. They say it is a sad thing. Perhaps it is good, when Seasmoke leaves High Tide, after Rhaenys (my headcanon) takes off his saddle. At least then, Rhaenys cannot hear Seasmoke’s cries.

The second thought (see, we got there), is that I think there has to be something uniquely dragon-like about this grief. Something Targaryen unleashed. Something that Corlys either cannot relate to, cannot bridge or cannot touch. Something that makes him think that what they have now is broken (I lost everything) and so sees the sea and the Stepstones as his way of escape and atonement. There has to be a difference between her reaction to her father’s death, the loss of her birthright and the loss of their daughter as this loss is the one that compounds them all. That makes it all come out in one roar/scream. For me, I suppose what I mean as saying her grief is dragon-like, is her grief being ugly, possessive and deeply solitary. 

That’s crystalised if Rhaenys has a particularly harrowing moment, deciding to get Laenor’s saddle off of Seasmoke. Let that creature be free, if she cannot be. Let him fly away, because he can, even if he doesn’t. And it’s a heavy-as-heck saddle; all metalwork and armour and harsh edges as much as it is leather. Emblazoned with a seahorse. And all the time, Corlys can get nowhere near. Parallel that, sort of, with Daemon striding after Laena before her death. Powerless. He can only watch.  It takes all her strength to pull it off, and even still, it falls from her arms as soon as all the weight is on her, not Seasmoke. She might drag it. Sit with it, bend over it and smelling her son’s scent on the leather. Rocking against it in the sand, as Seasmoke rises. Blinking tears out of her eyes, looking up into the bright son, as Seasmoke gives out a mournful call.

Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake! Its a book about mushrooms, the author's research, and his experience of uncovering how integral fungi are to nearly every aspect of life! It's pretty cool and @alientoastt got me my own copy for Christmas because i'd just been borrowing it from the library over and over.

when it comes down to it, Blue is my top pick: versatile and awesome. BUT i also really like green and red for opposite reasons: Green is calming and warm and blends in and red stands out and is awesome SO. Top 3 :)
